Why Is Netflix Tweeting ‘You Are Bugs’ About ‘3 Body Problem’?

3 Body Problem
Netflix

With 3 Body Problem now streaming on Netflix, the streamer’s X/Twitter account started going buck wild with a certain phrase from the new series from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss: “You are bugs.”

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, 3 Body Problem centers on an alien invasion that’s centuries in the making. As you can tell by Netflix’s recent posts below, those aliens do not have a friendly view of humanity.

Also, whoever runs Netflix’s tweets clearly had a lot of coffee.

Why Is Netflix Tweeting ‘You Are Bugs’ About ‘3 Body Problem’?

As pointed out by Tudum, the extraterrestial civilization known as the San-Ti co-opted the phrase after witnessing Chinese demonstrators in the 1960s vow to stop infiltrators to the communist movement by chanting, “Root out the bugs!” Thanks to a lack of understanding on how metaphors work, the San-Ti take this concept literally as they prepare to crush humanity following their 400 year trek to our planet.

In short, “you are bugs” seems just as bad as it sounds for the people of Earth.

Here’s the official series synopsis:

From multiple Emmy Award-winning creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones), and Emmy-nominated Alexander Woo (The Terror: Infamy, True Blood) comes 3 Body Problem, a thrilling story that redefines sci-fi drama with its layered mysteries and genre-bending high stakes. Based on the acclaimed, international bestselling book trilogy, The Three-Body Problem.

A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time to a group of brilliant scientists in the present day. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.

3 Body Problem Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.

Charli XCX Is Feeling Like A ‘Brat’ As She Announces Her 2024 Mini-Tour Dates

For the past few years, the music industry as a whole has had a lot of concerns about the future of touring. Not only has going on tour been a staple of many artists’ album rollouts, but it’s also been most artists’ primary form of income. Yet, in the years since the 2020 pandemic (which is arguably still ongoing), artists have said that touring has become so expensive that they often lose money. We’ve seen tours from even major artists severely curtailed or even canceled as a result.

In response, some artists, like Charli XCX, have announced smaller mini-tours, which allow them to keep performing live, but also keep costs to a minimum, allowing them to recoup and build their budgets for more traditional tours. Charli announced her Brat Tour, which will begin on June 1 in Barcelona, on Twitter, announcing just hours later that “All tour dates sold out xx” (but you can probably get them on the secondary market if you look hard enough).

The tour is named after the pop star’s upcoming album, which she said is also coming this summer. So far, she’s released one single, “Von Dutch,” as well as a remix featuring Addison Rae and A.G. Cook.

You can find more information about Charli XCX’s Brat Tour and buy tickets here.

Mindy Kaling Addressed The Rumor That She And ‘The Office’ Co-Star B.J. Novak ‘Haaate’ Each Other

Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak have known each other for 20 years, ever since they started working on The Office together. They even dated on and off for years (not to mention the persistent rumors about the identity of her kids’ father). But has there been a falling out been the (platonic?) life partners?

Last week, celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi shared a blind item that suggested Kaling and Novak have put “some distance” between them. Uh, yeah, about that: US Weekly reports that Kaling responded to the post, “Omg I haaate him so much.” That “haaate” gets more sarcastic with every “a.”

As of August 2023, Novak and Kaling were still interacting with each other on social media. Kaling wished Novak a happy birthday via Instagram, to which he responded in the comments, “No party is as fun as the car ride home with you.”

Kaling previously discussed the rumors about Novak being the father of her children in 2022. “It doesn’t bother me,” she told Marie Claire. “He’s the godparent to both my kids—and they have such a great relationship — and so far [the rumors haven’t] affected my happiness at all, it hasn’t affected my kids or BJ… If that’s what is going to be titillating to people, I’ll take it.”

What do you think Kaling gets asked about more often: her relationship with Novak or a potential new The Office series? It’s probably close.

‘Under The Bridge’ Looks Like The Next Must-See True Crime Series In A Trailer Starring Lily Gladstone And Riley Keough

Lily Gladstone hopefully isn’t thinking too much about not winning that particular gold trophy, and if so, good for her. The Killers of the Flower Moon leading lady is already the (joint) face of an upcoming Hulu series, Under the Bridge, that will likely be gobbled up by both true crime fans and anyone who wouldn’t mind a variant on the crime-thriller setup of Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects. Gladstone portrays a cop attempting to solve 14-year-old Reena Virk’s murder, a real-life case that turned a Canadian town upside down.

As well, Riley Keough (of the recent Daisy Jones & The Six and the upcoming farting-cryptid movie, Sasquatch Sunset) co-stars as the late Rebecca Godfrey, who penned the same-named book containing revealing interviews with those who were accused in this case. As the above trailer shows, Godfrey put herself in danger during her efforts to bring justice for Virk’s family. Archie Panjabi co-stars, and here’s more from the synopsis:

“Under the Bridge” is based on acclaimed author Rebecca Godfrey’s book about the 1997 true story of fourteen-year-old Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta) who went to join friends at a party and never returned home. Through the eyes of Godfrey (Riley Keough) and a local police officer (Lily Gladstone), the series takes us into the hidden world of the young girls accused of the murder — revealing startling truths about the unlikely killer.

Hulu’s Under the Bridge debuts on April 17 with two episodes and weekly followups.

Khris Middleton Got A Triple-Double After Pleading With Doc Rivers To Let Him Stay In And Score A Point

khris middleton
Twitter

This might come as a bit of a surprise considering how good he’s been for the Milwaukee Bucks over the course of his tenure, but entering Sunday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Khris Middleton had only recorded one triple-double in his career. That did end up changing in the Bucks’ 118-93 win over Oklahoma City, although it took a little convincing on Middleton’s part.

With the Bucks up 107-86 in the fourth quarter, Doc Rivers wanted to empty his bench and get his starters out of the game. Middleton was among them, but he noticed that he was only one point away from getting a triple-double — he already had 10 assists and 10 rebounds. As such, he asked Rivers to keep him in, he got the chance, and on the ensuing possession, he hit a jumper to get to 11 points.

“I said a little word to Doc, I was feeling it – I guess you could say,” Middleton said after the game, according to Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I realized I was one point away; I could be in control, I could hopefully knock down the jump shot, like I did tonight.”

Fortunately things ended up working out well for Rivers here, as Middleton immediately committed a transition take foul after this and went to the bench.

Future & Metro Boomin’s ‘We Don’t Trust You’ Is Too Good To Get Overshadowed By Petty Rap Beef

Future & Metro Boomin 'We Don't Trust You' Review
Merle Cooper / Future / Metro Boomin

The RX is Uproxx Music’s stamp of approval for the best albums, songs, and music stories throughout the year. Inclusion in this category is the highest distinction we can bestow, and signals the most important music being released throughout the year. The RX is the music you need, right now.

“Rap is fun again” was a common sentiment that appeared on social media in the wake of the release of Future and Metro Boomin’s new album, We Don’t Trust You. Unfortunately, fans asserting as much were referring less to the album itself than to one of its features. On the song “LIke That,” Kendrick Lamar makes an unlikely appearance with a fiery verse seemingly calling out the two rappers he’s most commonly compared to, Drake and J. Cole.

That’s kind of a shame. Not only has rap been fun for a really long time outside this album and any attendant potential “beef,” but the album itself deserves more than being overshadowed by the shade K. Dot directed at his ostensible rivals. The reason We Don’t Trust You was so heavily anticipated in the first place was the track record of quality chemistry between its principals. Future and Metro have collaborated frequently in the past, and the results have often been stellar, delivering some of the biggest standouts in the rapper’s catalog.

Take “Mask Off.” Aside from being Future’s highest-charting single from 2017-2020 (peaking at No. 5 on the Hot 100), it’s become nearly ubiquitous in popular culture; its titular catchphrase was used as recently as a couple of weeks ago as the title of a profile of Tierra Whack for Vulture. Incidentally, it’s also still Future’s highest-charting solo single; it was supplanted in 2020 by “Life Is Good,” which peaked at No. 2, “Way 2 Sexy” in 2021, and “Wait For U” in 2022. The latter two both hit No. 1; all three songs feature Drake, which is… interesting, in light of recent developments.

Meanwhile, “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” from Metro’s last official solo album, 2022’s Heroes & Villains, was the second highest-charting song from the album despite not being released as an official single like “Creepin’,” the only better-performing song from the album. Both were the only two songs from Heroes & Villains to appear in the top ten (“Superhero” at No. 8, “Creepin’” at No. 3). It seems safe enough to say that among Metro’s most prolific partnerships, Future is the one that gets people going the most — aside from Drake, who now appears to be on the outs with both.

I’ve now gone four paragraphs and mentioned Drake three times, which feels instructive of the point I’ve been trying to make. Future and Metro should be the focus, and they’ve let themselves get backburnered on what was expected to be one of the standouts of either artists’ careers. Even worse, We Don’t Trust You absolutely clears that benchmark, offering some of the most innovative beat work the St. Louis producer has turned in lately — which should be doubly impressive, considering his recent output includes not only Heroes & Villains but also the excellent and versatile Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse soundtrack and much of Young Thug’s Business Is Business jail album, along with a much-improved deluxe re-sequencing thereof.

Likewise, Future, whose last few solo projects prompted somewhat lukewarm responses (including from this publication), sounds more focused than he has since 2017’s Future/Hndrxx double release. Tracks like the titular intro, “Magic Don Juan (Princess Diana),” and “Everyday Hustle” crackle with the duo’s unique chemistry as Future reels in the more maudlin reflections prominent in his prior work to boast and threaten like a kingpin. “Got that sniff on me, that white shit like I’m Tom Brady,” he gloats on “Magic Don Juan.” “I’ma put a sports car on two wheels like it got hydraulics.”

Even on “Like That,” the beat pulls one hell of a sample — Rodney-O & Joe Cooley’s ’88 Uncle Jamm staple “Everlasting Bass,” in the style of Three 6 Mafia’s “Gotta Touch ‘Em (Pt. 2)” — to bolster Kendrick and Future’s nose-thumbing. “Runnin Outta Time” is cinematic, “Fried (She A Vibe)” lives up to its parenthetical, and “Everyday Hustle” is a masterclass in soulful street rap. (Sidebar: Anyone who says Rick Ross sounds “revitalized” here has missed Rick Ross’ last three projects.)

While the album drags on the backend and, like much of the overall trap oeuvre, can sound a bit repetitive, it more than lives up to its hype. It just sucks that modern audiences are so inundated with new music that the only thing they’ll get excited for is drama, beef, and gossip. Rap has been exciting — We Don’t Trust You is a fine contribution to that tradition — but if all anyone cares about is who dissed who and only gets fired up for guest rappers hijacking the conversation, then no wonder they’re so bored with the music of late. Maybe when We Still Don’t Trust You drops, the actual music can share the spotlight.

The Famed ‘Titanic’ Door That Couldn’t Save Leo’s Character Sold For Twice The Amount Of Bill Murray’s ‘Kingpin’ Bowling Ball At Auction

Titanic Jack Rose Door
Paramount/Fox

There is nothing wrong with owning a piece of movie history if you find yourself looking to spend a small fortune. Sure, you could save a couple hundred thousand dollars, but then you wouldn’t have the satisfaction of knowing that you are the only person on Earth who owns Toby McGuire’s black suit from Spider-Man 3, and nobody else can take that from you.

Heritage Auctions’ held their Treasure From Planet Hollywood auction earlier this year, and some of the big ticket items included the axe from The Shining (sold for $125,000), Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones’ whip (went for $525,000) and even Bill Murray’s bowling ball from Kingpin, which sold for a hefty $350,000. But none of those little pieces of junk can compare to the Holy Grail of movie props, the controversial door from Titanic. You know, the one that makes you feel really cold just by looking at it.

You might be asking yourself, “Who would ever buy a 25-year-old piece of water-damaged balsa wood?” and we may never know the answer to that, but the door sold for $718,750, making it the most expensive piece of memorabilia available in the lot. Now if they ever decide to sell Jack’s frozen corpse, that would likely go for at least $800k. You’d have to ask James Cameron about that.

The door, which is actually just part of a doorframe, is one of the most controversial pieces of home decor in cinematic history, due to the common debate that Jack could have survived if he had been aboard the life-saving piece of wood. However, the circumstances would have had to be very specific for that to have worked. Jack and Rose would have both been submerged if they had tried to fit together. Have you ever tried fitting two people on a boogie board? Exactly.

‘The View’ Co-Hosts Have Resolved To Listen To Whoopi Goldberg After Kate Middleton Revealed Her Cancer Diagnosis

The View Whoopi Goldberg Kate Middleton
ABC News

As the Kate Middleton conspiracy theories reached a fever pitch following a doctored photo released by Kensington Palace, Whoopi Goldberg took a strong stance on indulging in the public speculation. Her co-hosts on The View disagreed and continued to engage with the seeming scandal last week, prompting Whoopi to visibly check out and prop her feet up on the table. She was not having it.

Well, let’s just say there was a notable vibe shift on Monday morning.

Following Kate Middleton publicly revealing that she’s been diagnosed with cancer, The View co-hosts took turns apologizing for not listening to Whoopi and indulging in the tabloid frenzy.

“I felt awful, to be honest,” Alyssa Farah Griffin said via The Wrap. “Whoopi was right. And I’m guilty of having gotten into the fun of ‘Where’s Kate?’ and sort of thinking it’s funny, and sharing the memes, and playing into that. And I forgot something fundamental that we all know, which is every person, whether they’re a princess, somebody in a high privileged position, or just the person next to you is dealing with personal struggles that we don’t know about.”

“The lesson I learned was, when Whoopi Goldberg tells me to mind my own damn business, I will mind my own damn business from now on,” Ana Navarro bluntly stated.

However, Whoopi refrained from dropping an “I told you so” on her co-hosts. Instead, she focused on her concern for Middleton’s children.

“Once you’ve had this experience, it can scar you,” Goldberg said via Deadline. “Because once those things begin to happen, everyone jumps on board and there’s no way to stop it. I always think about the kids because the kids are hearing it outside, at school. Yes, even their kids.”

While Whoopi didn’t gloat about being right, she did take a friendly jab at the thought of her co-hosts actually listening to her for once. “I don’t put any money on it.”

People from other countries share 14 ‘obvious’ signs that someone is an American

Americans have a style and personality all their own, which isn’t a bad thing. It’s just noticeable when they travel aboard. Americans often stand out because of their outgoing personalities. They are friendly and enjoy having casual conversations with strangers.

This is an endearing trait to a lot of people in more reserved cultures, although it can also come off as a little brash.

An American characteristic that isn’t quite endearing to people in other countries is that they can be rather loud. In Europe, one can always notice the Americans in the restaurant because they can be heard from across the room.

A Reddit user named Frosty-Ad3575 wanted to know the specific ways that Americans stand out when traveling abroad, so they asked the AskReddit subforum: “What’s an obvious sign that someone is an American?”

The post was popular, receiving nearly 6,000 responses in just 6 days. The most popular ones described how Americans’ unique personalities, style of dress, dental hygiene and body language make them easy to spot.

Here are 14 “obvious” signs that someone is an American.

1. Posture

“Apparently, the CIA trains American agents to not lean on things if they go undercover in foreign countries because Americans lean on anything they can while standing around.” — Clown1998

“I bet MI6 trains British agents to lean on everything if they go undercover in America because Americans lean on anything they can while standing around.” — KingoftheMongoose

2. The date

“MMDDYYYY.” — LowRevolution6175

3. Distances are different

“Anything under 4 hours is ‘close by.'” — Grey-Canary

“Everything in Europe is around the corner if you’re from the US. I can drive the whole day and not leave my state, but in Europe, I can pass through 4 countries in that same time frame.” — JayHitter

4. They’re polite to servers

“In the touristy cafe-restaurant I worked at:

If they asked me for the nicest spot we had

If they asked me my recommendation without seeing the menu first

I would walk to the table, and they would say right away ‘hey, how are you doing?’ This one threw me off a lot at first. Why is this person asking me how I’m doing?? I’m just there to take the order. I got used to it, and I think they found my awkwardness cute.

They would ask my name when I greeted them and took their order.

I’m Northern European.” — Muc_99

“It’s under-appreciated just how polite, friendly, and sincere Americans are in general. It blew my mind the first time I came to the US, and I love that my children are growing up with those same values.” — Irishweather5000

5. The water bottles

“I was told, ‘Americans carry water bottles around like they’re worried they’ll never have access to clean water ever again.'” — Kosher_Dill

“I don’t care what anyone says. If you think carrying a water bottle when walking a lot is weird, you’re probably slightly dehydrated all the time and are just desensitized to it. You seriously need to drink water frequently if you want to be ideally healthy.” — Tan11

6. Smiling

“I was in Germany this past summer, and I realized smiling at everyone you make eye contact with is very American. When I went to London on the same trip, they seemed less weirded out by it but would awkwardly return the smile. I was taught to always start with a disarming smile. Never realized it was American.” — 12ozFitz

7. “More ice, please.”

“I spent a year in Europe completely iceless to the point I forgot that was a thing. I stopped at a bar in Chicago fresh off the plane and not only did I get free tap water, but water with ice. I instantly felt at home.” — Outside-Crezz8119

8. Personal space

“As an American man, I’ve been told repeatedly by European and Asian friends that we simply take up space (not by being fat) as though we’re entitled to it. Men in other countries apparently don’t claim the same personal space we do.” — Potomacan

9. White teeth

“It’s even more bizarre that they assume we have braces or bleach our teeth because they’re straight and white. I have naturally straight white teeth. I brush them twice a day so they stay white. I don’t do anything special to them, but I remember being in London and some similar-aged students literally making fun of me for my teeth… it’s true that they don’t naturally look like headstones in an ancient graveyard, but there’s no need to make fun.” — DPretilloZbornak

10. Casual dress

“My friend went to Germany recently, and what people said about Americans is you can spot them a mile away because they’re the ones wearing pajamas in public. Apparently, in other countries, at least Germany, they dress a little more formally and in less baggy clothes than we do in America.” — MarcusWahlbezius

11. Baseball hats

“Baseball cap… even on an infant riding in a pram.” — SyntheticOne

12. Shoes

“Americans are shoe snobs (they don’t think they are, but they are). Setting aside wealthier business types, Americans generally wear more on-brand, on-trend, high-quality shoes than others.” — Mouflony

13. They’re loud

“That was my first thought. Americans yell at each other in normal conversation in public. I noticed it years ago in Europe, and now I can’t stand it in the US.” — SucccotashOther277

14. Occupation matters

“Immediately asking someone what they do for a living when meeting them. Our jobs and work are our entire identity.” — Bealzu

“I hate that about American culture. I’m an American and recently became a SAHM, so I don’t have an answer to ‘What do you do for a living?’ Half the time, I add the caveat, ‘Oh, my last job was with Apple,’ so that I’m not written off as an unemployed ‘loser.’ But it really is dumb to determine a person’s worth by what they do in order to afford food and shelter.” — WassupSassySasquatch
