The Easiest Way For Donald Trump To Make Some Quick Cash Might Be To Sell His Beloved Mar-A-Lago, Uh, Paradise

Donald Trump loves to talk about how much money he has — until it’s time to pay up. The former president is reportedly struggling to cover a $454 million judgment in a New York civil fraud case. According to NPR, “Trump’s lawyers say they’ve approached 30 companies through four brokers and none will accept his real estate holdings as a guarantee on the bond for $454 million and argue the judgment is unconstitutionally high.”

There’s one way he can make some quick cash: sell Mar-a-Lago.

While appearing on CNN, Bess Freedman, CEO of the luxury estate firm Brown Harris Stevens, discussed Trump’s Florida resort with host Erin Burnett, “I think you need at least 30 days to get any of these properties sold. But Mar-a-Lago, potentially that could be something that could be sold quickly,” she said. “I think the valuation is something in the hundreds of millions and I think there could be a buyer for something like that.” Raw Story has more:

Burnett pointed out there wouldn’t be enough time for a buyer to even see the place. “That would be literally if you’re talking about doing that between now and Monday, that’s picking up the phone, calling someone and then literally writing a check,” she said.

“Yeah,” said Freedman. “I mean, there could be plenty of international people who want to buy that property. I mean, there’s properties that are priced at 150, 200 million that are nearby that and Palm Beach … it’s just shot up like a rocket and people do want to live there.”

What an opportunity for someone to buy the historical site where Vanilla Ice performed on New Year’s Eve and Rudy stumbled around in a drunken, depressive stupor. These properties don’t hit the market every day, you know.

Saquon Barkley’s Daughter On Learning He Would Join The Eagles: ‘Does That Mean We’re Gonna Win Now?’

Saquon Barkley changed teams this offseason, but he’s staying in the NFC East. Barkley, who started his NFL career as a member of the New York Giants, became a free agent and decided to sign a three-year deal with $37.75 million with the Philadelphia Eagles. According to reports, the Giants did not offer him a deal to stay in New York.

Barkley’s move did not go over particularly well in his old city — fellow former Giants running back Tiki Barber was especially harsh towards Barkley, who responded in kind — but it was a pretty popular move in his own household. In a video posted by the team, Barkley recalled the conversation he had with his daughter, Jada, after he made up his mind.

“My daughter, funny story with her, she knows there’s a lot of history in my career with the Eagles,” Barkley said. “Remember one time, when I was with the Giants and we lost to Philly in the playoffs, went to a diner to get some breakfast, and there wa sa bird, she was like, ‘Daddy! Oh no! Oh no!’ I’m like, what is it, and she points to the bird and is like, ‘The Eagles! It’s the Eagles!’ Me and Anna, we just started laughing and I put my head down, kinda started shaking.

“So, when I told her that we were gonna be going to Philly, she kinda was just like, ‘Does that mean we’re gonna win now?’” he continued. “And I just started smiling again and I was like, hopefully we’re gonna win some more games.”

Since Barkley came into the league in 2018, the Eagles have accrued a 56-42-1 record, while the Giants have gone 34-64-1.

Conor McGregor Made ‘Road House’ Because He Was Mad At… Meryl Streep?

Road House Conor McGregor Jake Gyllenhaal

When Conor McGregor signed on to the Road House remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal, the MMA fighter had one specific goal in mind: Sticking it to acting legend Meryl Streep. Apparently, McGregor has been quietly nursing a wound from a speech Streep gave at the 2017 Golden Globes where she received the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners,” Streep said. “And if we kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”

While most people would’ve ignored the remark, McGregor latched on to it and used it for fuel after joining the Doug Liman-directed remake of the Patrick Swayze classic.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

“Fighting is the most beautiful form of art, and you know, it’s a great thing to come into this game, which is also art,” he said. “I was really taken aback because fighting is an art. It’s brutal also, so I can understand. It’s not for somebody to make a mistake; it’s real artistry for those who do what we do, so I came in [to filming Road House] with maybe a little chip on my shoulder and wanting to represent my sport and my art, give my best in this arena.”

Unlike Streep, McGregor is open to artists switching formats, which is why he had nothing but glowing words to say about Gyllenhaal’s skills as a fighter. The MMA star would love to see the actor get in the ring.

“Jake’s a consummate professional, and he took it well and gave it right back,” McGregor said. “That’s what you gotta do. Gotta get up and fight right back.”

Road House starts streaming March 21 on Prime Video.

Everything New On Netflix For April 2023, Including Patricia Highsmith’s ‘Ripley,’ ‘Dead Boy Detectives,’ And More ‘Rebel Moon’

Dead Boy Detectives
Netflix

Netflix knows how to ration its new offerings, alright. Even though Hollywood largely went on hold last year, the streamer still has plenty of fresh TV shows and movies up for grabs. That includes not only fixings for true crime devotees (like the latest Crime Scene offering) but also popcorn-crunching fuel in the latest Zack Snyder movie. Additionally, Neil Gaiman addicts will want to tuck in for a The Sandman-tangential series, Dead Boy Detectives, and mystery lovers won’t go wrong by adding Ripley into their queues.

New library additions are also stacked. In particular, Keanu Reeves watchers can tuck into the first three The Matrix movies, which arrive on the streamer this month. Also, have you watched his lovely turn in Always Be My Maybe with Ali Wong? If not, then you are really missing out, and that movie is also streaming on Netflix.

Here’s everything coming to Netflix in April:

Ripley (Netflix series streaming 4/4)

Everyone remembers Matt Damon in The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Andrew Scott is fully shaking off his “Hot Priest” days to don Tom Ripley’s grifter duds. This limited series is, of course, based upon Patricia Highsmith’s series of novels, and Scott takes a job in the 1960s that sets him on the deceit-filled path to murder.

Dead Boy Detectives (Netflix series streaming 4/25)

Welcome to another side of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman Universe, in which two young detectives discover each other while dead after being born decades apart. They’re BFF ghosts who also happen to have a knock for solving mysteries, particularly when something paranormal is afoot. That’s precisely what they encounter, including witches and the depths of Hell while aiming to help the mortal realm find closure through their investigations.

Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver (Netflix film streaming 4/19)

Zack Snyder followers will finally be able to see the conclusion of his two-part, Totally Not-Star Wars saga, in which “legends are made,” allegedly. Maybe a little too self-serious? Perhaps, but still ultimately intended as fun.

The NBA Should Take A Break For The First Weekend Of The NCAA Tournament

nba ncaa tournament

We all work too much. It’s pretty widely accepted that the 40-hour workweek is outdated — there is actually a piece of recently proposed legislation in Congress to knock that down to a 32-hour workweek, for what it’s worth! — but despite that, plenty of us work much longer than 40 hours a week. A 9-to-5 is now an 8-to-5 with an hour-long lunch break that no one actually takes, leaving the office late or taking work home with you is common, all that stuff.

NBA players get paid a lot more money than, well, most humans, but they’re also overworked. The league packs 82 games into its season, which is a lot of basketball. There have been calls over the years to reduce that number, or to limit the stuff that really wears players out, like back-to-backs or brutal travel schedules. While the league has done some of this, in recent years, it’s actually placed more of an emphasis on having guys play as much as possible before the playoffs roll around — the In-Season Tournament and Play-In Tournaments are here now, while players have to meet games played thresholds to be eligible for awards, which means if you want to maximize your earning potential, you’re gonna have to grit your way through being banged up sometimes.

Reducing the number of games is unlikely any time soon, in part because the NBA and NBPA just agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement. What the league can do, however, is give players more opportunities to rest up and get their bodies right amid the grind of the regular season. As of now, the only chance to do this is during the All-Star break, and even then, if you’re a star who participates in the weekend, you get a truncated break in February. So when it ends, you’ve got to go through two more months of playing ball after spending the prior four months stuck in the slog that can be the NBA in the early part of its season.

So, how about a compromise that also could also benefit basketball fans who don’t really have the ability to follow the NBA over the next few days? I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that the NBA makes its way onto the back-burner in mid-March for most sports fans due to the NCAA Tournament starting up. The men’s tournament tips off on Thursday, while the women’s tournament begins on Friday. There is a ton of single-elimination college basketball on the horizon, all of it kicks ass, and while it’s going on, only the real NBA sickos are able to dedicate the time and energy to tuning in for non-college games.

As such, what if the league used this as a chance to give its players a few days off before the stretch run? Following the slate of games on Wednesday night, the NBA then goes into a break until the following Tuesday. This would mean that every game for the first two rounds of the men’s and women’s tournaments get every ounce of attention from the sports world (well, except from hockey and soccer fans, but at least there’s an international break in the men’s futbol world right now). It’d give players a chance to rest and recover ahead of the final 15 or so regular season games, while the league’s two main television partners — Turner is the home of the men’s tournament, while ESPN broadcasts the women’s tournament — get to go even more wall-to-wall covering the events than they already do.

It’s also the rare portion of the season where fans wouldn’t be too broken up about the lack of NBA games, as there would still be ample hoops action on their TV screens. It’s not like the NBA and its television partners don’t understand where the eyeballs are this weekend, either. From Thursday to Monday, there are nine games on national television, and all of them are on NBA TV. On Tuesday and Wednesday next week — the first two days without either NCAA Tournament — games are back on TNT and ESPN before the league goes back to putting its marquee games on NBA TV during the Sweet 16 and Elite 8.

Obviously the NBA is not going to just plop a two-week break in the middle of its stretch run, particularly when the Tournaments have days off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. But between the first two rounds of both Tournaments, there are 96 college basketball games in a stretch of five days that most people are going to be watching. Why not use that as an excuse to let players decompress at a time when all the attention is going to be on something else?

As an added bonus, this serves as an opportunity for players to go to these games. While not every guy made it to the NBA via college ball, a whole heck of a lot have, and I’m sure plenty of them would take a trip to go see their alma maters play. The NBA really likes when its players are visible, so why not give them some time to be courtside for the Tournament — how cool would it be if Aaron Gordon or Jamal Murray got Nikola Jokic to throw on an Arizona or Kentucky jersey at their first round games? What about Keegan Murray leading a Kings contingent to cheer on Caitlin Clark and Iowa, or Evan Mobley making his way to a USC game to see JuJu Watkins? What if a gigantic group of NBA and WNBA players who went to the same school made their way into a student section and showed off the school pride that is always endearing? Plus there’s the obvious: NBA players hyping up the next generation of athletes is awesome, and maybe the league can get a moment involving a current star and a guy like Rob Dillingham at Kentucky that it can look back on when they battle over the years.

Seeing NBA players care about their alma mater is usually really cool, and while I’m sure that some would use this as a chance to go sit on a beach somewhere for a few days, this would give them an opportunity to grab some courtside seats and let loose. And the NBA really likes when it gets a chance to be involved in something that people are paying attention to. Getting to have a presence at the multi-day event that takes over the American sports conscience every single year is a chance for them to do that — I’m willing to wager that the very talented social media folks with the league would go all-in on players being in attendance for games, or would dig deep into the archives to show off the college highlights of today’s biggest stars. No one is going to care more about Draymond Green being at Michigan State-Mississippi State than they will the game itself, but I’ll tell you this as a professional contentsman: People tend to really like seeing famous folks acting like, well, fans.

It would, of course, be completely shocking if the NBA took any of this seriously, and decided that punting on a few days during the final push to the postseason would be an idea worth pursuing. But at the same time, NBA players are people, and like everyone, getting more chances to make sure they can do their jobs to the best of their ability — that they are healthy enough, that they are in a good headspace — is a good thing. Letting the players catch their breath for a few days and enjoy (or, if they want, be part of) this incredible celebration of the sport that happens every March would be a way to do just that.

Is Travis Scott Featured On Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter?’

Getty Image

We are just days away from Beyoncé‘s highly anticipated eighth album, Cowboy Carter. The album is said to have much country influence, and as we can see, she has been fully embracing her Texas roots this era. In the days leading up to the album, the Beyhive is abuzz, theorizing about the album’s collaborations and sound. Earlier this week, Bey teased some collaborations via Instagram, and even shared what seems to be a snippet from the album via her story. Following this clip, fans believe she may have collaborated with another fellow Texan.

Is Travis Scott Featured On Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter?

Though the sound she teased sounds more hip-hop-influenced, as opposed to country, it accompanied a pre-order link for Cowboy Carter. So it’s likely the song appears on the album.

Fans recognized what sounded like vocals and hums from Travis Scott, with whom, Bey previously collaborated on the Utopia track, “Delresto.” Though, it hasn’t been officially confirmed if Scott will have a full verse on the song, or simply contributing to the song’s background vocals and production.

After all, Bey is known not to stick to one genre. In her Instagram post revealing the cover, she did, in fact, say “This ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.”

Cowboy Carter is out 3/29 via Parkwood. Find more information here.

Jake Gyllenhaal Thinks It Would Be ‘An Honor’ To Portray Batman Years After His Failed ‘Batman Begins’ Audition

Jake Gyllenhaal
Getty Image

It’s basically a rite of passage for an actor to audition for a major superhero movie, even if they don’t get it. It was revealed last year that Jake Gyllenhaal was pretty close to portraying Batman in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation(s), but that role obviously went to the famous shapeshifter Christian Bale. But Gyllenhaal didn’t let that deter him!

The Road House actor is seemingly not opposed to portraying the brooding superhero. Gyllenhaal referred to the character as “classic,” unlike his role in 2022’s Ambulance. “Oh, man. That’s a classic [role]. It’s an honor,” Gyllenhaal told ScreenRant. He then explained that he is intimidated by roles that have been played by other big-named actors in the past, much like the rotating roster of Batman actors.

“Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past,” he began, “When I think about it, I’m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that. So that’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.” Who could forget the absolute classic Batman film, Batman Forever, that propelled Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose” to fame?

In the past, Gyllenhaal has been open about his struggles in the MCU. “It’s hard, man. That acting is hard. All of it,” Gyllenhaal told Howard Stern in 2021. “That world is enormous. And I joined that world way into that run; a train that was already moving. Normally, I come in way early on and I get to figure it out.” He did not seem to figure it out, but maybe he will get a second shot at Batman one of these days. Or Bathman, a man who bathes. He needs it.

FeM Synth Lab Is Making Music Accessible For The Marginalized

Change comes when inspired people start seeing obstacles as opportunities. That’s what happened to Natalie Robehmed, the writer and musician behind FeM Synth Lab — a synth lending library and workshop series catering to marginalized genders in Los Angeles.

In the latest episode of Show Up, Robehmed recounts her entry into L.A.’s thriving EDM music scene, a space she describes as “free of restriction” where creators are encouraged to experiment with boundaries and produce something “new and cool.” Unfortunately, that freedom came with caveats. Too often, male-dominated industries like music production hinder progress by way of gatekeeping, something Robehmed experienced first-hand. Tired of the gear purism, misogyny, and mansplaining, she decided to partner with some friends to build a community for people like herself — women and nonbinary creatives eager to make music on their own terms. That’s how FeM Synth Lab was born.

“There was no place to go to learn about this stuff that was woman-centered and sort of opening and welcoming to us,” Robehmed says. The group hosted a workshop and Robehmed was blown away by her community’s appetite for this kind of creative space. She planned more classes and opened a lending library where people could rent out gear — microphones, sequencers, amps, and spin tables — with a small deposit.

“It’s so expensive to even get started in music production,” she explains. “The idea came about to actually loan out instruments, like library books, where you could take it home with you.”

With help from others in the music community who donated equipment, built websites, and spread the word on social media, FeM Synth Lab was even able to thrive during the pandemic, when in-person workshops were limited and music creators lacked the financial means to buy their own instruments. Now, seven years after Robehmed helped launch the organization’s workshop series, FeM Synth Lab has become a mecca for women and nonbinary artists hoping to further their musical education and break into the world of music production.

“My hope and dream is that every city could have a resource like this,” Robehmed shares. “That people could see this and say, ‘Hey, you know what, I actually can go out and start something with my friends.’”

To hear more about Robehmed and FeM Synth Lab’s journey, watch the full episode above.

13-yr-old’s completely unique ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ rendition was so great it even wowed Queen

At Upworthy, we’ve shared a lot of memorable “America’s Got Talent” auditions, from physics-defying dance performances to jaw-dropping magic acts to heart-wrenching singer-songwriter stories. Now we’re adding Angelina Jordan’s “AGT: The Champions” audition to the list because wow.

Jordan came to “AGT: The Champions” in 2020 as the winner of Norway’s Got Talent, which she won in 2014 at the mere age of 7 with her impressive ability to seemingly channel Billie Holiday. For the 2020 audition, she sang Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” but a version that no one had ever heard before.

With just her Amy Winehouse-ish voice, a guitar and a piano, Jordan brought the fan-favorite Queen anthem down to a smooth, melancholy ballad that’s simply riveting to listen to.

Especially considering that Jordan was only 13 years old when she did this.

Watch:

What this video doesn’t show is Heidi Klum hitting the Golden Buzzer faster than you can say, “Nothing really matters to me.” The judges were blown away by Jordan’s performance, as were the people in the comments.

“That’s a ONE in A BILLION voice right there. Just amazing,” wrote one commenter.

“I am typically not a fan of songs being redone particular to such a magnitude,” shared another. “They almost always fall short of the original. But to completely rearrange a song in the manner that she has, from a legend, and then make you forget about how the original even sounded because her rendition is so good is utterly amazing.”

“As Freddie once said, ‘Do whatever you want with my music as long as you don’t make it boring.’ I think he’d really like this,” shared another.

Though Queen’s lead vocalist Freddie Mercury is no longer with us, the band did offer words of praise for Jordan’s performance, retweeting her audition video with the comment, “Wow! What a rendition of #BohemianRhapsody.”

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is such an iconic song, it’s hard for anyone to do a cover of it justice. But 13-year-old Angelina Jordan managed it masterfully.

Jordan would move on to the Top 10 in “AGT: The Champions,” and though she didn’t take home the top prize, she did impress the audience with another classic rock tune, Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” You can enjoy that performance below, and you can follow Angelina Jordan—who is now 17 and still singing her heart out—on YouTube and TikTok.
