As Shōguncontinues to rack up rave reviews by unraveling a massive samurai epic that can easily go to toe-to-toe with Game of Thrones, we’ve got all the details on when you can catch the next episode of the FX series.
Based on the classic James Clavell novel of the same name, Shõgun centers on a brilliant engineer who finds himself shipwrecked in feudal Japan where his vast wealth of knowledge has the potential to open the country to the world, but only if it can survive a growing war of fierce clans vying for power.
When Does ‘Shōgun’ Episode 5 Come Out?
Shōgun Season 1 Episode 5 starts streaming March 19 at 12 a.m. EST on Hulu (or Disney+ depending on where you live) before airing on FX at 10 p.m. EST.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village, its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), comes bearing secrets that could help Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) tip the scales of power and devastate the formidable influence of Blackthorne’s own enemies — the Jesuit priests and Portuguese merchants. Toranaga’s and Blackthorne’s fates become inextricably tied to their translator, Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), a mysterious Christian noblewoman and the last of a disgraced line. While serving her lord amidst this fraught political landscape, Mariko must reconcile her newfound companionship with Blackthorne, her commitment to the faith that saved her and her duty to her late father.
In a couple days, on March 20, Megan Thee Stallion is set to reveal the dates for her Hot Girl Summer Tour. Meg delivered that update that last week, along with the cities she’ll be hitting, by sharing a faux magazine cover, featuring a revealing swimsuit photo that proudly shows off her backside. It turns out Instagram had some thoughts on the pic.
After sharing the photo, Meg took to her Instagram Story to revealed that she received a warning from Insta. The warning reads, “This post could limit your account’s reach with non-followers. Your post may go against our Recommendation Guidelines. This could impact your account’s reach on Reels, Feed Recommendations, Explore, Search or Suggested Accounts to people who don’t follow you.” Meg wrote, “Nooo its just a lil cheek lol.”
Meg’s original post noted her tour will visit Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Memphis, Atlanta, Raleigh, Hollywood (Florida), Tampa, New Orleans, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Denver, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and cities in the UK and Europe. She previously said of touring this year, “Oh, we’re having the tour this year. The Hot Girl Summer Tour is going to be 2024, summertime. I feel like I’ve never been able to be outside doing my own thing during the summer, since like 2019. So this is going to be the first time that I drop an album on time for the summer. I do want to give the hotties the Megan Thee Stallion experience.”
Megan Thee Stallion is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
Over the weekend, America’s sweetheart Ayo Edebiri shared a cute photo on Instagram of herself laughing with Paul Mescal. “Happy St Paddy’s,” it read, along with a three-leaf clover emoji. You have to be terminally online to know this, but The Bear actress has frequently joked about hailing from Ireland; meanwhile, the All of Us Strangers star actually is Irish. It’s a good bit, but the post had people wondering: are Edebiri and Mescal dating?
Maybe they “soft launched” a relationship (it would be very Irish of them to do that on St. Patrick’s Day, of all days), but for now, they’re just good friends who enjoy drinking Guinness and befriending donkeys together.
While Ayo merely captioned the post: “Happy St Paddy’s!,” fans were quick to speculate if the picture was her way of announcing they were dating. They were quick to flood X with their thoughts, with many praising the pair while others questioned if they were set to star in a rom-com together. Fans shared: “me looking at the photo of ayo edebiri and paul mescal for the 500th time today”; “they’re my barbie and ken”; “They look beautiful together”; “They look beautiful”; “A very romantic relationship.”
There’s another possibility: as pointed out X user @girlflopping, “wait. hold on. Emily Henry working with the producers of Aftersun which starred Paul Mescal for the Book Lovers movie and then reposting a photo of Paul and Ayo?? I am connecting dots.” Have we found our Nora and Charlie?
Vice President Kamala Harris is on a mission to make penalties for marijuana-related offenses less harsh, and she has now recruited Fat Joe to the cause.
On Friday, March 15, Harris hosted a discussion on the topic at the White House, and it featured Fat Joe and others. As the Associated Press notes, the rapper “moderated a subsequent closed-door discussion that included Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and individuals who received pardons for prior marijuana convictions.”
Harris said during the event, “I cannot emphasize enough that they [Department Of Health And Human Services and Department Of Justice] need to get to it as quickly as possible and we need to have a resolution based on their findings and their assessment. But this issue is stark when one considers the fact that on the schedule currently marijuana is considered as dangerous as heroin,” she said during the public portion of the meeting. Marijuana is considered as dangerous as heroin and more dangerous than fentanyl, which is absurd. Not to mention patently unfair. So I’m sure DEA [Drug Enforcement Administration] is working as quickly as possible and will continue to do so and we look forward to the product of their work.”
As NPR notes, Harris also said plainly, “Nobody should have to go to jail for smoking weed.”
But it looks like Wizkid no longer wants to be tethered to the genre. After a clip from his 2023 interview with Apple Music resurfaced, the “Money & Love” musician doubled down on his older statements.
In another posted screenshot by ThatGrapeJuice, he went on to clarify his initial statement. “Listen, am I African? Yes,” he wrote. “But I do make all sorts of music. I don’t want to be labeled just Afrobeats. That’s like saying every American artist makes rap.”
Lil Yachty made a similar point when he began to explore rock via his album Let’s Start Here. Still, users online weren’t pleased with Wizkid’s statement. View the mixed response from users online below.
Outsiders : you cannot box Burna Boy into just afrobeats… He does so many genres effortlessly
Nigerians… He should shut up.. Let’s see how long he can go alone
Afrobeat una…wizkid isn’t afrobeat artist he does every sound…he have done countless genres and even most of his albums speak for him…he have won countless awards in different genre is music category and also charted songs there. pic.twitter.com/InYimdAKXl
No bro you are getting it wrong again. Remove the “afro” whatever… wizkid is pop/r&b, burna is rap/reggae pop… We simply just call these guys afrobeat cos they are Africans, they just want it to stop. We even call Blaqbonez afrobeat artiste even tho blud does rap. https://t.co/13WhkjAX0o
Nothing wrong with what Wizkid is trying to drive home. It doesn’t make sense that every artiste is boxed under Afrobeat. Especially if you’re versatile with your craft. If you have the range to try something new it’s okay to leave the umbrella of Afrobeat and create your sound.
Now, Meek appears to be gearing up to expand his voice with a formal podcast. Continue below for more information.
Does Meek Mill Have A Podcast Deal?
Long story short, the answer is no. Well, at least not one that he’s willing to sign. On March 16, Meek put the bug out there on his official X (formerly Twitter) page. “I want a podcast deal. I have a lot to say on many different levels,” he wrote. “If you have a podcast business moving slowly, I can reverse that! I’ve always been my own media, and I wanna join the culture of black media!”
I want a podcast deal I have a a lot to say on many different levels! If you have a podcast business moving slow I can reverse that! From – meek mill – I’ve always been my own media and I wanna join the culture of black media!
Immediately after Meek announced his interest, his foe Akademiks chimed in. Instead of trolling as usual, Akademiks offered Meek a one-million-dollar production deal through his company. However, Meek quickly shot it down.
“Not like a finance podcast deal thing, LOL,” he wrote. “I hang around all billionaires, and I’m caked up… You streaming for your chair getting drunk … I’m changing laws and stopping major hood beefs and trying to uplift the culture!”
Not like a finance podcast deal thing lol I hang around all billionaires and I’m caked up … you streaming for your chair getting drunk … I’m changing laws and stopping major hood beefs and trying to uplift the culture! https://t.co/EA10uxkQob
If Akademiks is willing to throw up seven figures to fund Meek, we’re sure another company will place their bid soon enough. As of today (March 17), this venture is just a dream. But Meek has already shared the working name and mission of the audio project.
I wanna partner with somebody already good in the business not just dive in! 2 episodes a month!
Yeah just a podcast deal my boy…. I just wanna get in media now and rap to tell reforms stories about the system let others share their stories and address all propraganda … uplift the black culture … stop beefs publicly .. it’s gonna be called “culture currency” https://t.co/hQdr6yjcmw
Teach the level of business knowledge I know from the streets to being around extreme wealth! Like how you had the show on Spotify but fueling street beefs I want that type of opportunity!
The Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors met on Sunday night in Orlando, with the Magic cruising to a 111-96 victory that came as little surprise given the current trajectory of the two teams.
Orlando is a young team on the rise, sitting fifth in the East, making the leap into playoff contention this year behind Paolo Banchero’s growth into an All-Star along with steady improvement from the young cast around him. The Raptors, meanwhile, are beginning their rebuild after finally trading OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam to build around Scottie Barnes, and will surely look to what Orlando’s done as a potential blueprint for how best to build a young roster that can compete on both ends of the floor.
After the game, the two teams’ first round picks from a year ago, Gradey Dick and Anthony Black, met at midcourt and hashed out a plan to do a jersey swap, recognizing a great social media opportunity when they saw it, leading to the Magic tweeting out this image of the two youngsters (which eventually got deleted after someone made a phone call I’m sure, but the internet lives forever).
In case you were wondering if they knew what they were doing with this swap and their positioning, of course they did, as Rob Perez pointed out on Twitter you could see Dick say “f**k it” as they discussed whether to make the swap or not (and Black changed what side of Dick he was on to make sure they got the funniest possible photo opp).
Knew exactly what they were doing. Watch Gradey say “f**k it…” at the beginning of this, and Anthony re-position himself. pic.twitter.com/N70ryyaeC1
You can see Black trying his best not to laugh, and I would bet that Gradey Dick will be a very popular jersey swap in the NBA as his career goes on because, deep down, everyone is still a teenager at heart.

The 2023-24 season has seen women’s college basketball continue to grow in popularity, with Caitlin Clark’s pursuit of NCAA scoring history leading the way as the women’s game eclipsed the men’s in many instances in terms of being a ratings draw. The growth goes well beyond Clark’s immense star power, though, as South Carolina enters the NCAA Tournament undefeated (but not without some scares), LSU hopes to go back-to-back, USC star freshman Juju Watkins looks to make her name on the national stage, and as deep a group of contenders we’ve seen will believe they have a chance to make a run at a title.
On Sunday night we learned the matchups and pathways for all of those top teams, as the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament bracket was unveiled with the full field of 68 learning where they’ll play their opening round games and against what teams.
It’s said that everyone dies twice. The first is your physical death, the second is the last time anyone utters your name.
Sybil Marie Hicks, from Baysville, Ontario, died on February 2, at the age of 81, but it’ll be a long time before her name is forgotten. Her children have turned her into a posthumous celebrity after writing a hilarious first-person obituary for her that was published in The Hamilton Spectator on February 5, 2019.
According to her daughter, it was fitting tribute.
“Mom was never boring,” Hicks’ daughter, Barb Drummond, told Yahoo Lifestyle. “Mom lived large. She would do anything for anyone. It was rare for Mom not to have a smile on her face. Mom was always ready for a laugh.”
The last word. Obit in todayu2019s @TheSpec u201cI finally have the smoking hot body I have always wanted…having been cremated.u201dpic.twitter.com/YQFOjRJjL8
The obituary begins with a shot at her husband, Ron. “It hurts me to admit it, but I, Mrs. Ron Hicks from Baysville, have passed away,” they wrote. “I leave behind my loving husband, Ron Hicks, whom I often affectionately referred to as a ‘Horse’s Ass.'”
She then goes on to roast her own children.
“I also left behind my children whom I tolerated over the years; Bob (with Carol) my oldest son and also my favourite. Brian (with Ginette) who was the Oreo cookie favourite, Brenda AKA ‘Hazel’ who would run to clean the bathrooms when she heard company was coming,” they continued. “Barbara (with Gordon) the ever Miss Perfect and finally Baby Bruce who wouldn’t eat homemade turkey soup because he didn’t want to be alert looking for bones while he ate.”
The piece ends with a great zinger and a bit of a mystery: “I finally have the smoking hot body I have always wanted… having been cremated. Please come say goodbye and celebrate my wonderful life with my husband and his special friend Dorothy who is now lovingly taking care of my horse’s ass.”
Did her husband have a side piece or are they talking about the dog?
The viral obituary has done more than just spread a few much needed laughs across the world, it’s helped the family heal after Hicks’ long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The disorder may have stolen Hicks’ quick wit sharp tongue; but, in a way, the obituary, has given voice to a woman who was long silenced.
“We wanted to do something that kind of celebrated who she was and to give us an opportunity to basically have one last conversation with her, and have some laughs at the same time,” he said.
The Hicks family hopes that those who are moved by their mother’s story will consider donating to their local Alzheimer’s charity.
