A divorced mom cleverly asked daycare workers to hook her up with a ‘cute’ dad. It worked.

Dorilee Lavin, 39, was a divorced mother of 3 living in Vermont. When she was ready to find her next relationship, she made a list of characteristics she wanted in her next husband. “I manifested him hard,” Dorilee, 39, told Today.com.

Three days later, she saw a tall, dark-haired man named Sean walking his 2 daughters to school and hoped he was single. “It was the sweetest thing ever, like an image you’d see in a magazine,” she recalled. “They had such a happy energy.”

After some research, she discovered that he was single, too. Unfortunately, their paths didn’t cross and the school year was nearing its end. “I never got the chance to connect with him, but the [after-school care] was tired of hearing me talk about him to them,” she confessed in a TikTok video with over 1.7 million views.

“’OK, Dorilee, we can’t have you be bummin’ all summer, so we’re gonna give him your phone number,” she recalled them saying.

So, on the last day of summer break, the employees at the after-school care program agreed to give him her phone number. Before he got the digits, she ran into him while she was leaving the center and didn’t think she made a great first impression.

“It was total verbal diarrhea. Like no pickup lines, no nothing here. I actually thought I scared him,” Dorilee shared in the video. Luckily for Dorilee, she didn’t. About an hour later, he texted her and they agreed to go on a date that Saturday night.

They eloped in the woods 111 days after their first date. Dorilee believes she “manifested” Sean, he thinks he may have done the same for her.

“I later learned he had a dream of a woman with long dark curly hair and a captivating energy,” she told Today.com. “Then, when he saw me, he was blown away because I was the woman from his dream. I didn’t believe him when he first told me the story, then he showed me the texts. He had messaged his friends about the dream.”

Dorilee still can’t believe that her metaphysical request was honored. “It hit me hard about two months ago that I’m literally living the life with a partner I called in from the universe years ago and I balled like a baby,” she wrote in the comments.

Their kids get along very well and they’ve worked hard to create positive and peaceful relationships with their exes.

blended families, dorilee sean lavin, happy famileies

Dorilee and Sean told Upworthy that there are 3 “vital” elements to creating a successful co-parenting relationship: clear communication, open dialogue and always acting in the best interest of the kids.

It’s also essential to leave the past in the past.

“Letting go of any premarital resentment and leaving that in the chapter of your marriage is what helped us move forward with positive co-parenting,” Dorilee told Upworthy. “Raising kids isn’t all cupcakes—it can be difficult when married, but there’s a whole different aspect after divorce. None of the members of our parental party talk poorly of the others. We don’t want to in any capacity have a child think there’s any part of them we wouldn’t love because they are partly made of the parent we divorced.”

It’s also worth noting that Dorilee has a rather charming name for her ex-husband, with whom she shares co-parenting responsibilities. She calls him her “wusband” (he was my husband).

Even though Dorilee and their family have created a happy and emotionally healthy second chapter in life, there are some who still think she had to employ stalker-style tactics to get her man, an accusation she denies…sort of. “Is it really stalking if I didn’t follow him and just made myself available to bump into him at pickup, though?” she wrote in the comments.

Why a traditional calculator may give you a completely different answer than a cellphone

Some people see math and automatically turn off their brains while others can’t wait to figure out the problem presented. Math can be anxiety producing for some people but this random discovery of two calculators coming up with different answers to the same problem have people intrigued.

Spellbinding Odyssey shared a short video on X showing someone using a regular Casio calculator you can pick up at any store and the calculator that comes standard on a cellphone. The person in the video enters a simple equation on the cellphone calculator, 50+50×2. Instantaneously, the cellphone calculator displays the answer as 150. It doesn’t take a mathematician to second guess that answer though many people might immediately second guess their own assumption that the answer given is incorrect.

On the traditional calculator, the same exact simple equation is entered in the same order, 50+50×2. But there’s something weird that happens. The traditional calculator comes up with a completely different answer than the other calculator. This time the answer to the equation is 200, but how?

People in the comments of the post were quick to point out what was happening because math doesn’t make everyone cry. There are quite a few people that enjoy the challenge and were able to explain why the phone was coming up 50 short of the expected. It turns out to be something really simple. Remember in late elementary school when math teachers excitedly taught the order of operations? That’s what’s a play here.

If you’re one of the people that immediately walks away at the sight of math equations so your memory is a little fuzzy on that rule. Many people learned the acronym, “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally,” where the beginning of each letter stands for the order in which you complete a simple mathematic equation. Parenthesis, exponent, multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.

In the case of the two calculators, one is using the order of operations and the other is not, commenters point out.

“The iPhone Calculator is applying the order of operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS), which means it calculates multiplication and division before addition and subtraction. So, the operation it performs is “50 + (50 × 2)”, resulting in 150. The Casio should too but some models and modes affect how it calculates. To avoid this issue, use parentheses,” someone writes.

“The phone followed order of operations while the calculator made its calculations one at a time,” another person points out.

Other people were a bit peeved that the cellphone calculator would be programmed to automatically assume a person was inputting equations in everyday life.

“A calculator’s job is not to solve equations unless its a graphing calculator. A person trained to use a calculator will unknowingly receive the wrong answer when entering the equation “properly,” a commenter protests.

“No telling how many ledgers, documents, etc are wrong,” someone says.

“The iPhone seems to be less efficient than the old calculator. You have to press the = button after adding 50 + 50. If you don’t, the iPhone will assume like 50 + (50 x 2),” another writes.

You learn something new every day. If you’re doing simple multistep math on your phone be sure you’re pressing the equal sign after each step or you could wind up severely miscalculating unwittingly.

People are sharing the most random facts they know. Here are 15 of the most intriguing.

How is it that some people seem to know a lot of random facts and are great at trivia, while others can’t get a question right while watching “Jeopardy!”? A big reason is curiosity. People interested in many different subjects have a more significant knowledge base than those who do not.

Further, when people are genuinely interested in a subject, they retain knowledge much better than if they heard the information in passing. So, while two students may learn the same thing in class, the genuinely interested one will remember the information, while the other will quickly forget it.

Studies show that curiosity is one of the most significant predictors of having a high IQ.

A Redditor named TechSavvy_Ryan asked the curious folks on the platform to share the facts that “most people don’t know.” The post went viral, inspiring over 8,000 responses in just two days. So, we cobbled together a list of the 15 most intriguing facts so you can wow people at your next trivia night or cocktail party.

Here are 15 facts that “most people don’t know.”

1. Hindenburg survivors

“Most the people involved in the Hindenburg disaster lived.” — CaligulaMonkey

“It was said 62 of the 97 people survived. You can see them running away in the nick of time as they touched the ground.” — Rook2Pawn

2. Freaky fish

“Irukandji jellyfish grow only to about 1 cubic cm in size, but have an incredibly painful sting. One symptom of the sting is a strong impending sense of doom. Victims have begged their doctor to be killed as they were certain they would die anyways.” — NikkiRex

3. Dangerous laughter

“You can collapse your lungs from laughing.” — ContentTask2032

“So you can technically die from laughing?” -PaptaLopikju-

4. Dark side of cruises

“The amount of murder, rape and suicide that happens on cruise ships. Most of them unresolved, too.” — PeacefulKillah

“Most newer cruise ships also operate an onboard morgue, as they are now considered cheaper options to retirement homes. Last time I was on a cruise, a crew member let slip that there were 2 deaths from natural causes.” — Kegman83

5. Happy birthday

“A company called Warner Chappell Music collected licensing fees for use of the song ‘Happy Birthday to You’ all the way until 2015. That’s why characters in movies often sing other songs like ‘For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”’and restaurant chains often have their own birthday songs they sing to customers.” — ItsMeCourtney

6. Burial facts

“A burial plot is called a graveyard if it’s part of a church lot. It’s called a cemetery if separate.” — Missusmidas

“The backyard is only a graveyard if they can find the body.” — Diels_Alder

7. Spanish Africa

“The only Spanish-speaking country in Africa is Equatorial Guinea. Its capital, Malabo, is on an island slightly northwest of the country’s mainland.” — Dre_Lake

8. A case of bad nerves

“If your nerve is broken in the wrong way, the nerve will send a pain signal to the brain and it won’t stop.” — RhiannonCrystalLady

9. Pizza truth

“An 18-inch pizza is more than two 12-inch pizzas. To do the math, the surface area of a circle is pi x r squared. Pi is the constant. 18 in pizza has a 9 in radius, or r. 12 inch has 6. 9 squared is 81, 6 squared is 36. 36 x 2 is 72. 81 is greater than 72.” — Who_Else_But_Macho

“Not only that but if you assume that each pizza has a 1″ wide crust all the way around, the 18-inch pizza is 79% toppings and 21% crust, while the two 12-inch pizzas are only 70% toppings and 30% crust. So not only do you get MORE pizza, you get a more efficient pizza with a greater toppings-to-crust ratio.” — Tajwriggly

10. Declare your pacemaker

“When a body is to be cremated, the funeral director will first ensure that any rubber sole shoes, watches, phones, glasses, and sealed glass/metal containers are removed. Any sealed container becomes a pressure vessel when exposed to temperatures exceeding 1000°c. These will explode and do significant damage to the crematorium. This is the same reason why any electrical devices or items with batteries are removed, including most watches, and also pacemakers. When an undertaker asks whether your loved on had any medical implants or pacemakers, this is the reason why.
Glasses often tend to leave a silica residue on the bottom of the cremator which is just awkward to clean up and can build over time. Rubber soles are just incredibly polluting and are often not caught by the many filtration systems. This usually results in a black plume of smoke coming from the chimneys. Also, all metal residues and materials which are collected after the cremation is completed are gathered up and can either be returned to the family (upon request) or else treated and recycled, with proceeds from the recycling going towards a worthy charity.”
— Flaky_Tumbleweed

11. Scuba or S.C.U.B.A.?

“Scuba is an acronym, standing for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus.” — JackCooper_7274

12. Squirrel speed

“Squirrels run faster up trees than on flat surfaces.” — sstebbinss

13. Battleships

“Battleships in museums/ on display that are WW2 and later cannot start their engines because they have preservative grease inside in case the Navy has to bring the ship back into service.” — Stravata

14. Sharkgevity

“Sharks predate trees.” — External_Crazy_6568

“Well duh, they’re predators.” — Flowcahrt83

15. Code-shifting cells

“Your immune system has at least 1 cell to combat every single infection that could ever exist. Your T-cells are cells that, when created, go through a sort of training phase in the thymus where they are allowed to change their genetic code at random, in order to be able to battle 1 random very specific disease. During this, the body also kills any T-cells that are accidentally adapted to kill human cells. Then the T-cells are sent to lymph nodes, to be found later by presenting an antigen (a part of a pathogen) to it. Basically, you have something for everything in your body, the problem is just finding it, as it takes a good few days for your body to locate the specific one.” — Chipperland4471

LeBron James And J.J. Redick Gave A Pretty Good Reason For Why NBA Players Look Up Their Highlights On YouTube

lebron james
Mind the Game

LeBron James and J.J. Redick have used their new podcast, “Mind the Game,” to give basketball fans a high-level look at the NBA. The pair have spent a whole lot of time around basketball, and seem to really enjoy getting the opportunity to talk about things from the perspective of a current and former player who have seen everything in the league.

On their most recent episode, the two dove into a pretty fun subject: Basketball players going out of their way to watch their own highlights. After James said that he’ll come across his old clips on social media, Redick interjected and told him that it’s ok to look up your own highlights.

“I don’t just go online and look up LeBron James highlights,” James claimed.

“We all watch our own highlights on YouTube,” Redick quickly interjected.

James admitted that in the past, he’s “of course” looked up his own highlights on the YouTube, before explaining that there is actually a reason players do this.

“The number one reason you do that is when you hit, like, a little slump or whatever,” James said. “You’re like, where’s my game? YouTube is the perfect place to find your game.”

Redick immediately agreed with this, and immediately went to a game he played in Charlotte as the sort of game he’d look up when he needed an extra pep in his step.

Over the past few months, 4Batz has shown to be one of hip-hop’s promising new stars. With a promising hit on his hands, as well as a coveted Drake co-sign, the Dallas rapper and singer is carving a path to stardom. All of this considered, his debut mixtape U Made Me A St4r, which was expected to drop tomorrow (April 5), seems to be a promising project. However, 4Batz announced today that he will unfortunately be pushing the mixtape back a month.

Though this may be bad news for those who have been following the artist’s journey, 4Batz offers good reasoning for the delay.

“Been making some of the best shit of my life the last couple weeks,” said 4Batz in the caption of an Instagram post, “so ima push the mixtape to 5.3.24 so it can be perfect for yall.”

Though this may sound like a bit of a setback, 4Batz trusts that everything happens for a reason. In a recent interview for Uproxx, 4Batz told us that no matter what, he still envisions becoming the biggest artist in the world.

“I would like to be remembered as, the biggest artist in the world and one of the most humble people in the world who gave back and inspired people, and who you know was talented,” he said.

SNX: This Week’s Best Sneaker Drops Featuring The NOCTA Hot Step 2 Total Orange & Jordan 4 Vivid Sulfur

SNX
Uproxx

Welcome to SNX DLX, your weekly roundup of the best sneakers to hit the internet. This week is a weird one. Here we are at the beginning of spring, a prime time for a wardrobe refresh, and all our favorite sneaker brands decided to just not participate. All but one brand of course, can you guess the brand? We’ll give you a second. Did you guess Nike? Of course, it’s Nike.

While every other brand seems to be taking a break, Nike is here with seven drops that are — despite the lack of brand variety — pretty great. This week we’ve got a mix of classics, like the Air Max 95, Jordan 4, and Shox, newer silhouettes like the Book 1 and NOCTA, and a collaborative pair of sneakers from Converse and Dutch streetwear boutique Patta.

Let’s dive into all the best sneakers releasing this week and where to find them.

Nike Shox R4 Black

SNX
Nike

Price: $150

Here is something I never thought I’d say about Nike Shox — these sneakers look pretty classy. As someone who was alive during the original Shox run 24 years ago, these sneakers have always represented the bad and garish taste of the early ‘00s fashion aesthetic. But the modern generation has breathed new life into that look, and it’s looking better than it ever has.

Case in point, the Shox R4 Black. This sneaker features an all-black synthetic upper with laser perforations, Max Orange details, and iconic compressed columns that add a spring to your step. The Shox has never looked this good, and we’re here for it.

The Nike Shox R4 Black is out now for a retail price of $150. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Converse x Patta Weapon

SNX
Nike

Price: $140

Dutch streetwear brand Patta has linked up with Converse for a new take on two of the brand’s classic silhouettes. First up is the Weapon, which Patta has outfitted with a durable Cordura fabric upper, reflective details, and a single-color upper. Patta’s embroidered branding pops up on the heel with a dual-branded tongue.

Simply put, it’s a utilitarian take on an ‘80s court classic and it looks great!

The Converse x Patta Weapon is set to drop on April 4th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $140. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Nike Air Max 95 Atlanta

SNX
Nike

Price: $185

The Air Max 95 Atlanta is getting a colorful redesign thanks to an extensive partnership between Nike and four Atlanta retail boutiques. The four include Walter’s, Wish ATL, SolePlay, and A Ma Maniére, and while the sneaker doesn’t live in any of those four’s signature aesthetics, it’s still a really cool concept.

The sneaker features a mix of leather, synthetic leather, and textile with ripples of University Red, Picante, Safety Orange, and Bright Mandarin on the signature rib cage. Our favorite details include the reflective outline and the Phoenix and ATL graphic at the heal.

The Nike Air Max 95 Atlanta is set to drop on April 4th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $185. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Converse x Patta Chuck 70 Marquis

SNX
Nike

Price: $130

I’m not sure if Converse contractually obligates all collaborators to drop at least one Chuck 70, or if brands are just clamoring to give their spin on the classic silhouette, but I’m not complaining. You can never have too many Chuck 70s!

The Chuck 70 Marquis features the same durable Cordura upper with a muted camo print, reflective details throughout, and embroidered Patta branding at the tongue. Given how thin, lightweight, and barebones the Chuck 70 is, it’s a little funny to see it get the utilitarian treatment, but somehow it works!

The Converse x Patta Chuck 70 Marquis is set to drop on April 4th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $130. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Nike NOCTA Hot Step 2 Total Orange

SNX
Nike

Price: $200

Drake is having quite a year with his signature NOCTA line. Nike has been pumping out new colorways and silhouettes from this line so clearly, NOCTA is popular. It’s probably Nike’s newest line to be this popular and given the lack of innovation from the Swoosh in recent years, we appreciate all the activity.

The Hot Step 2 features a synthetic leather upper with a reflective finish, textile webbing for the laces, a G-TEK outsole, and a visible air unit at the heel. The new iteration’s colorway is a loud and brash orange with silver accents. It’s a bold statement and a complete 180 from what we’ve come to expect from NOCTA.

The Nike NOCTA Hot Step 2 Total Orange is set to drop on April 4th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $200. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

Nike Women’s Air Jordan 4 Vivid Sulfur

SNX
Nike

Price: $210

Every week we get a Jordan drop, but it’s rare that said drop will be a new never-before-seen colorway. This week is different as Nike drops this women’s exclusive AJ4 in Vivid Sulfur. The sneaker features the usual white leather AJ4 build with a mix of Vivid Sulfur and Anthracite colors.

It’s a simple three-color design that highlights the strength of this legendary silhouette.

The Nike Women’s Air Jordan 4 Vivid Sulfur is set to drop on April 6th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $210. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

Nike Book 1 Haven

SNX
Nike

Price: $140

Devin Booker’s signature Book 1 is back with a new colorway dubbed Haven, named for Booker’s Cane Corso of the same name. The sneaker sports a marbled wrap-around Swoosh and a tough canvas and twill upper with leather and suede details. Is this the first time a signature sneaker has been inspired by a dog? Maybe, but hey, it’s working!

This is easily our favorite colorway in the Book 1’s history and has us excited for the future of this new signature silhouette.

The Nike Book 1 Haven is set to drop on April 6th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $140. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

Uproxx Music 20: Lokre Dives Into A Liberating New Era With The Sizzling ‘Body’

Lokre interview Uproxx Music 20
Alexis Rose/Merle Cooper

Nowadays, Lokre is trying to have a bit more fun.

It’s been over a year since the Toronto native formally introduced herself to the music world with her emotive and transcending debut Elizabeth. The project, two years in the making at the time of its release, is a sprawling spectacle of affirmations and self-confidence boosters that were equally beneficial for Lokre to sing as it is for her listeners to hear. As beautiful of a listen as Elizabeth is, there is only so much healing and self-affirming one can do before one enjoys the fruits of their labor. So, for her latest era, Lokre will do just that — beginning with her sizzling new single “Body.”

The song was announced last month with a message from Lokre. “I don’t wish to sing about healing,” she wrote on Instagram. “It’s all I talk about. I don’t need to bring you something heavy, you carry enough. Something to feel to love to move to. I can give u one 2 slow whine ur waist 2 :).” “Body” is just that as it sizzles with flavor and seduction, a perfect recipe to draw in Lokre’s target who stands at a distance admiring the view she provides. Its accompanying video steams with anticipation as Lokre dances and flaunts her body for watching eyes.

Lokre’s liberating new era is underway and as we wait for what comes next in it, Uproxx caught up with her to learn more about her background — her influences, interests, and her goals for the future.

See Previous UPROXX MUSIC 20 Interviews:

What is your earliest memory of music?

Seeing my mom sing in church every Sunday. I remember being a kid and thinking, “One day I’m gonna be old enough to lift my hands and sing too.”

Who inspired you to take music seriously?

My mom. She had me in classical training and introduced me to the importance of practice and performance when I was young, the same way her mother did for her.

Do you know how to play an instrument? If so, which one? If not, which instrument do you want to learn how to play?

I play piano, guitar, and enough drums to tell a drummer what I like. I’d love to learn the harp.

What was your first job?

I did voice-overs for Crayola and modeled for local department stores as a kid, I guess I’ve never really had a plan B since then.

What is your most prized possession?

Probably my car. It’s not the dream Jeep, but it was the first purchase I made when I signed my first contract & I’m proud of her.

What is your biggest fear?

Being too deep. Like this question.

Who is on your R&B Mt. Rushmore?

Mine has a lil’ more estrogen. Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Sade, and Alicia Keys.

You get 24 hours to yourself to do anything you want, with unlimited resources: What are you doing? And spare no details!

Ok, I’m in a space somewhere in Chile with trees around me and a view of the ocean. There’s a white grand piano and vinyls I’ve never heard that I’ll sample and I’m drinking cacao that I packed in my suitcase from Guatemala. Then I’m gonna read some poetry by Pablo Neruda that probably inspires me to write. After touching the ocean it’s local red wine and pasta. Always pasta. Oh and I’m completely alone. Don’t call me.

What are your three most used emojis?

🖤, 🫂 and 👁.

What’s a feature you need to secure before you die?

Her Majesty, Sade.

If you could appear in a future season of a current TV show, which one would it be and why?

Catfish. Is that current? I don’t know, but I have an absolutely insane story to share.

Which celebrity do you admire or respect for their personality and why?

I just like when people are human and don’t forget how to be compassionate. Alicia Keys does it well.

Share your opinion on something no one could ever change your mind about.

There are no coincidences.

What is the best song you’ve ever heard in your life and what do you love about it?

“A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway. I’ve never heard more honesty and feeling on a recording before. It’s like he’s right there in the room with you.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform, and what’s a city you’re excited to perform in for the first time?

I love performing in Toronto… earning hometown love and seeing that grow feels really special. Playing in South America or Trinidad would be an incredible feeling, cultures where the rhythm is just in their bones.

You are throwing a music festival. Give us the dream lineup of 5 artists that will perform with you and the location where it would be held.

Hear me out: It’s in a canyon in Arizona for the reverb and the vibes. The artists in this order: Jhené Aiko on her sound healing, Cleo Sol, Alewya, M.I.A., followed by Her Majesty Sade.

What would you be doing now if it weren’t for music?

I’d probably be a writer or journalist. Maybe next lifetime, we collab.

If you could see five years into the future or go five years into the past, which one would you pick and why?

The past, because uncertainty about the future is how we build faith. If I could show LOKRE 5 years ago how to love herself the way I do now, we might’ve avoided some bruises. But I wouldn’t change a thing.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Along those lines, love and trust yourself deeply, because you will always be the common denominator in your story. Build it on love and you will only be willing to accept what you are worthy of.

It’s 2050. The world hasn’t ended, and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

I want them to say they felt seen, held, and inspired by my art. I want to be remembered as an artist who amplified the light in others just by moving effortlessly in my own. That would be fire.

Lokre’s “Body” video is out now. You can watch it above.
