A 10-panel comic explores a subtle kind of racism many people of color experience.

If we’re being honest, we all make assumptions about other people, right?

We look at their skin, their clothes, and their car, and we make guesses about them that we don’t even realize we’re making. Everyone does it.

You ask a pregnant female coworker if she’ll keep working after the baby is born — but you wouldn’t think to ask that question of a guy who was about to become a dad.

You ask that nice girl behind the counter at the bagel shop whether she’ll ever go to college so she can get a better job — only to learn that she’s an underemployed Ph.D.

You ask a hipster-looking guy on the subway whether he’s into artisanal pickles — but he just happens to be a bad dresser who has no idea what you’re talking about.

The fact is, though, that people of color deal with other people’s assumptions constantly.

Research shows that other people’s expectations can have a profound effect on us. They can determine our success or failure. And black women deal with this nonsense more than others. In a recent study, nearly half of the female black and Latina scientists polled reported being mistaken for janitors or administrative staff.

Let’s agree to fix this.

1980s cultural icon Michael Winslow made an emotional comeback on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Actor, comedian, and self-proclaimed “voicetramentalist,” Michael Winslow was just about everywhere in the ’80s. His incredible ability to make sound effects with his voice and uncanny beatboxing skills landed him the role of officer Larvell Jones in all seven “Police Academy” movies.

He also did voiceover work in “Gremlins” and appeared in Mel Brooks’ “Spaceballs.”

But Winslow was forced to scale back his career in 1993 after the death of his first wife Belinda Church. As a single father, he had to stop appearing in films so he could spend more time with his children.

He continued to star in the occasional commercial, perform stand-up comedy, and make guest appearances, but he didn’t have the profile he once had.

Back in July of 2021, Winslow stepped back in the spotlight with a performance on “America’s Got Talent.” After some prodding from his son, he decided it would be the perfect venue to relaunch his career on television.

In the ’80s, he was known as “The Man of 10,000 Sound Effects,” but things have changed since then, he now claims to have “hundreds of thousands.”

“Now, after raising my two kids, I’m in a different phase. I think this is my time,” Winslow, 62, said on the episode. “And America’s Got Talent is the place for me to show the world I still have something to offer, I still have some sounds to make. There’s still room for a little more.”

Judge Simon Cowell was excited to see Winslow when he took the stage. “We know you!” Cowell exclaimed. “I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that you are here!”

Winslow then gave a stunning performance where he impersonated the chimes on an airplane, beatboxed to Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust,” and performed Jimi Hendrix’s version of “The Star Spangled Banner.” His performance was proof that after five decades in show business Winslow hasn’t lost a step and, in fact, he may be at his peak.

After his performance, Winslow won a standing ovation from the audience and four “gigantic yeses” from the panel.

“My life has changed again for the better, and I’ve gotten another blessing,” Winslow told Terry Crews after leaving the stage. America’s Got Talent is the place for me to show I still have something to offer. I’ve still got some sounds to make, and there’s still room for a little more.”

Winslow is a great reminder that sometimes when celebrities seem to fade away, it isn’t necessarily because they’re washed up or past their prime. They are humans with real challenges just like the rest of us and real-world events can affect their career trajectories. It’s great to see such a wonderful performer get another shot at the big time.

Jimmy Fallon asked people to share ‘funny, weird, or embarrassing’ stories about their dads

There are many traditional staples of fatherhood—love, support, protection, security, providing an example—but there is, of course, that other not-so-warm-and-fuzzy feeling that dads can provoke in their kids at any given moment … sheer, utter embarrassment.

Usually in a father’s humiliation tool belt is the infamous dad joke. These corny puns have been around since 2003, and let’s face it, they’ll never leave. Of course, no dad needs one to make your eyes roll. They can do that most of the time simply by being themselves.

For his well-known #Hashtags segment, Jimmy Fallon asked his “Tonight Show” audience to share “funny, weird, or embarrassing” stories about their dads. Fallon, a father himself, is no stranger to the cringeworthy power of a dad joke. In a 2020 interview with TODAY, Fallon admitted, “I’m starting to get the eye rolls now where Daddy’s not the funniest person in the world.”

Don’t worry Fallon! Clearly you’re not alone, because people replied with some truly hilarious comments. Dads might be silly, but we’ll gladly put up with it for the love they give us.

Enjoy 20 of the very best #DadStories. As usual, Fallon went first:

As Drake embarked on his It’s All A Blur Tour alongside frequent collaborator 21 Savage, much of the attention he received was centered on his footwear for the tour. His unique sneakers got fans just what model he was wearing, as they didn’t appear to be any of his usual favorite Nike/Jordan models. He eventually revealed they were from his Nike-backed brand NOCTA; the shoes in question were the NOCTA x Nike Hot Step 2.

Nearly a year later, the shoes made their retail debut via the SNKRS app as a “Shock Drop” in the “Total Orange” colorway. They quickly sold out, but if you missed out on them the first time, there’s good news: The “Total Orange” Hot Step 2 is returning to SNKRS on April 4. They’ll be available on NOCTA.com on April 3.

How To Watch Sydney Sweeney In ‘Immaculate’ For A Devilishly Low Price

Sydney Sweeney Immaculate
NEON

Immaculate isn’t done ruffling feathers. The Sydney Sweeney horror film has announced a cleverly-priced event that will give audiences a chance to see the burgeoning scream queen in her “most unhinged performance.”

On April 3, tickets for Immaculate will go on sale for $6.66 for all showings across the board. Doesn’t matter if it’s a matinee or evening, the devilishly low deal will still apply.

“This Wednesday, experience IMMACULATE for the devilish price of $6.66,” the official Immaculate account tweeted. “Tickets will be available at participating theaters (@AMCTheatres, @RegalMovies, @Marcus_Theatres, @HarkinsTheatres) across all showtimes on Wednesday only.”

The $6.66 ticket pricing arrives on the heels of Neon messing with angry reactions to the film from the Christian Right. The official Immaculate account started added frothing reactions to the film’s posters, essentially turning the screeds into endorsements.

“Diabolical, sacrilegious, pure evil & grossly offensive,” read a quote added to the Immaculate poster. “It is profane & has a third act that spits in the face of all that is holy. Just… evil.”

Neon rounded out the trolling by posting a video of Sweeney reading from the Bible:

Here’s the official synopsis:

Sydney Sweeney stars as Cecilia, an American nun of devout faith, embarking on a new journey in a remote convent in the picturesque Italian countryside. Cecilia’s warm welcome quickly devolves into a nightmare as it becomes clear her new home harbors a sinister secret and unspeakable horrors.

Immaculate is now playing in theaters.

The ‘Freaky Friday’ Sequel Will Have Even More Body Swapping Than The Original, According To Newly Revealed Plot Details

Freaky Friday
Walt Disney Pictures

Are you confused about TikTok but still take the time to share nostalgia-ridden memes on Instagram? Do you get warm and fuzzy feelings thinking about old co-stars reuniting? Do you feel like the Crypt Keeper lately? Congrats! You’re getting old. It happens to us all, though you probably thought it wouldn’t catch up with you. As you get old, you begin to realize that sequels aren’t totally necessary, but they do give you a chance to relive your childhood, so sure, why shouldn’t we get another go at a 20-year-old movie?

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan starred in the 2003 comedy Freaky Friday, based on the novel of the same name, and the duo are hoping to get a little freakier. Curtis has been actively hoping for a sequel over the years, and now it’s really in the works.

Last week, Curtis shared a snap of herself with her former co-star, seemingly confirming that the two were on board for a sequel. This week, Entertainment Weekly has gotten a hold of the alleged plot and character descriptions that are being sent out to potential cast.

The story follows Anna (Lohan) as she prepares to marry a British restauranteur named Eric. Anna has her own 14-year-old daughter named Harper, while Eric has a teen named Lily. The two don’t meet eye-to-eye, much like Anna and her mom Tess (Curtis) did in the original flick.

While the script is not confirmed, EW has revealed various scenes, like one where Anna (as Harper) reflects on her past as a rockstar and a moment when Tess (as Lily) and Anna (as Harper) open up to each other during school detention. The script also states that “Harper should channel ‘Anna’ (Lindsay Lohan) and Lily should channel ‘Tess’ (Jamie Lee Curtis).” So it looks like it’ll be just as goofy as its predecessor.

The sequel, which doesn’t have a title yet so it still could technically be 2 Freaky 2 Friday, will be directed by Nisha Ganatra, who has worked on And Just Like That…and Brooklyn 99.

What movie should Jamie Lee revive next? She’s already done Halloween and The Haunted Mansion. Maybe there is a market for My Girl 3!

Is ‘Law And Order: Organized Crime’ Cancelled?

Chris Meloni Organized Crime
Getty Image / NBC

It’s not a tale quite as old as time, but it sure feels like clockwork when Law & Order shows receive renewal orders. The tried-and-true franchise took those laps a few weeks ago with two of the currently running series, Law & Order: SVU and the recently revived Law & Order, were re-upped for more followup seasons. Yep, this means that we’ll receive much more of Mariska Haragitay and Ice-T putting offenders behind bars in SVU while Hugh Dancy keeps carrying the torch of the original series.

This will add up to the twenty-sixth season of SVU and twenty-fourth season of Law & Order, but what of the Christopher Meloni spinoff series, Organized Crime and a fifth season? The Elliot Stabler-focused series started out strong, but something must be amiss, and Variety reports that the series, which is churning through its fourth season, remains under deliberations at NBC:

Dick Wolf is in for another busy season at NBC. No surprise here, the Peacock network has renewed “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: SVU” for the 2024-25 broadcast TV season. Among Dick Wolf scripted series, that leaves just “Law & Order: Organized Crime” on the bubble; a renewal for that show, which has experienced multiple showrunner changes in its short life, is still in discussion.

So, what exactly is afoot? It doesn’t look good that several Dick Wolf series received simultaneous renewals, which feels like a customary practice, while Organized Crime was left dangling. I mean, franchise superfan Mickey Rourke might be crushed to hear this news, but if we want to point fingers here, let’s blame the fact that they dropped the hot octopus action. That was perhaps a mistake for the TV ages.

In all seriousness, if NBC does cancel Organized Crime, it would only make sense to put Stabler back on SVU. God only knows that people will keep tuning in to see if he and Olivia Benson will get married. After all, TV can seldom resist resolving Unresolved Sexual Tension, although c’mon Olivia, you can do better than a hothead.

Woman learns a valuable lesson after guy ends their date and apologizes to the waitstaff

How you treat people in the service industry is often used as a measure of what kind of person you are. Arguably, the same could be said for how you treat anyone in a customer-facing job, whether it be the sales associate at a department store, the cashier at McDonald’s or the janitor in your office building.

While people may think that these jobs are not skilled positions, they do require an immense amount of skill that has to be learned. The skill just isn’t as valued by society as a whole, and sadly, that often leads to people treating those in customer-facing jobs poorly. But when a woman recently went on a date with a potential partner, her poor behavior towards the waitstaff caused him to pause.

The story was shared by a woman by the name of Barbara NOT Barb on Twitter with a lengthy thread about her daughter’s recent interaction. Though the details were juicy, it quickly became obvious that kindness is the way to go.

Barbara’s daughter works as a server at a high-end restaurant in Los Angeles, and she was asked to bring water to a couple’s table in someone else’s section to help out. But according to the Twitter thread, when her daughter arrived at the table, the woman at the table started berating and insulting her.

Apparently, the couple, who were on their first date, were waiting for their drink orders from the bar. If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant, you know that servers don’t have anything to do with how quickly your food or alcoholic drinks get made. They keep an eye out for the items as they care for other tables, but either this woman didn’t realize that or didn’t care, because she yelled at the server for how long it was taking for the drinks. The only mistake this particular server made was being kind to a co-worker and offering to drop off glasses of water.

After the server tried unsuccessfully to de-escalate the situation, the woman demanded to speak to the manager. It’s not clear if this was the woman’s first date ever, but it was her first date with the stunned man at the table. Since people generally attempt to put their best foot forward on a first date, it’s not surprising that the man decided to end the date. But before he did that, he gave a lesson in kindness.

Before the manager could reach the table, the likely embarrassed man intercepted him.

“He asked to close out the tab. Explained it was a first date and that the woman’s behavior disgusted him. He paid the tab at the bar and then requested my daughter and the original server come talk to him. He apologized profusely for his date’s behavior,” Barbara wrote. “Needless to say, everyone was floored, in the best way. The woman had somehow been informed that the date was over. She walked out, head down, and was no longer talking down to anyone.”

Being kind to others is one of the easiest things to do. Maybe the woman in question was having a bad day—everyone has them—but our bad days probably shouldn’t bleed over onto unsuspecting strangers. Hopefully, the servers and the date got a lesson in kindness and standing up for others.

Levi’s CEO settles the debate on just how often you should wash your jeans

Social media has become a fertile breeding ground for conversations about hygiene. Whether it’s celebrities bragging about how little their family bathes or battles over how often people should wash their sheets or bras.

One of the debates that gets the most diverse responses is how often people wash their denim jeans.

Denim atelier Benjamin Talley Smith tells Today that jeans should be washed “as little as possible, if at all.” Laundry expert Patric Richardson adds they should be cleaned “after nine or 10 wearings, like to me, that is the ideal.” At that point, they probably have stains and are “a little sweaty by that point, so you need to wash ’em,” Richardson says.

Still, some people wash and dry them after every wear while others will hand wash and never hang dry. With all these significant differences of opinion, there must be a correct answer somewhere, right?

The CEO of Levi Strauss, Charles Bergh, has stepped up to set the record straight on when and how to wash your jeans. He caused a stir in 2014 when he said he only washes his jeans once a year, but it was for environmental reasons more than hygiene.

He later clarified his thoughts in a blog post, “The Dirty Jean Manifesto” he posted to LinkedIn.

“I made this provocative statement because I believe strongly in what our brands stand for: quality, durability and lasting products made sustainably. I also said it because I believe we don’t need to wash jeans as often as most people think we do,” Bergh wrote.

“We learned that an average pair of jeans consumes roughly 3,500 liters of water — and that is after only two years of use, washing the jeans once a week,” Bergh wrote. “Nearly half of the total water consumption, or 1,600 liters, is the consumer throwing the jeans in the washing machine. That’s equivalent to 6,700 glasses of drinking water!”

To add to the problem, denim jeans are often manufactured in places where water is scarce, such as India, Pakistan, Mexico, China and parts of California.

Bergh recently spoke with CNBC’s Christine Tan and clarified his thoughts on jean cleanliness.

“True denim heads, people that really love their denim, will tell you to never put your denim into a washing machine. So that’s what I do,” Bergh explained. “If I drop some curry on my jeans, I’m gonna clean it. But I’ll spot-clean it. And if they get really gross you know, if I’ve been out sweating or something and they get really gross, I’ll wash them in the shower.”

However, when Bergh washes his jeans in the shower, he does it while wearing them and washing them with soap. The image that the scene conjures is of a cowboy bathing in a cartoon, clothes on and all.

There are a lot of different opinions on how often one should wash and dry their jeans and many of them boil down to personal preference. But the debate on the topic has brought up one very big point we should all consider: when choosing how often we wash our jeans, a big part of the decision should be considering the amount of water we use.
