Back in November, the Anyone But You publicity shuttle began to heat up with a joint appearance from stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. The pair beamed at each other in a manner that instantly inspired rumors that the two were secretly dating. This speculation surfaced despite Sweeney’s engagement to Jonathan Devino, and of course part of the chatter only grew more fierce when Powell and girlfriend Gigi Paris called it quits.
Anyone But You then experienced a slow start at the Christmas box office, although it’s gone on to exceed $218 million at the global box office, which is much more impressive than that of big-budgeted superhero fiasco Madame Web. As of April 23, Anyone But You has finally arrived on Netflix, and now, those rumors are popping up in a conversation with the New York Times.
Would you be surprised to learn that Sweeney and Powell “intended” for that fuss to happen in the first place? Those stinkers:
The speculation played out, the stars said, exactly as they intended.
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry,” Powell said in an interview. “That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit – and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”
What did Sydney do? As a producer, she had an especially vested interest in, well, making sure that interest in the film flourished:
“I was on every call. I was in text group chats. I was probably keeping everybody over at Sony marketing and distribution awake at night because I couldn’t stop with ideas,” she said. “I wanted to make sure that we were actively having a conversation with the audience as we were promoting this film, because at the end of the day, they’re the ones who created the entire narrative.”
In retrospect, not too surprising! And yes, the tactics most certainly worked, and hopefully, this film’s success has invigorated people’s appetites to leave the house a little more often to see romcoms — and ideally, that trust will also be in good Hollywood hands.

Pre-sale for Ohana Festival tickets starts on April 25 at 10 AM PT. After that, a general sale will be held, provided there are still tickets available. You can sign up for a pre-sale code here.
Last year’s Ohana Festival was headlined by Foo Fighters, The Killers, and Eddie Vedder, with performances from The Chicks, Father John Misty, Haim, Japanese Breakfast, Pretenders, and The War On Drugs, among others. You can read Uproxx’s review of the festival by Editorial Director Phil Cosores here.
Aside from booking his fest, Vedder’s been pretty busy of late promoting Pearl Jam’s new album Dark Matter, which Uproxx’s Steven Hyden called the band’s best album in “decades.” Ahead of the band’s performance at Ohana Festival, they’re going on a tour spanning from their hometown’s neighboring Vancouver, BC, Canada to Boston before hopping the pond for a slate of European dates after the festival
In the modern era of the music business, when so much of success relies on artists’ connection with fans via social media, it’s rare to see any artist completely disconnect. Yet, Jelly Roll — one of the breakout stars of modern country music after jumping genres in 2021 — has made it a point to do. He hasn’t made a new post since April 10. So why did the breakout star quit social media?
As his wife, influencer Bunnie Xo, revealed in a preview of her podcast Dumb Blonde, the Tennessee native decided to step away from social media after being bullied over his weight. Earlier this month, he told fans he was training to run a 5K marathon next month. When he shared his goal, and said he wanted to lose 100 lbs. after already losing 70 lbs., the response was less than encouraging, however.
“I’ve really been kicking ass, man. I’m doing two to three miles a day, four to six days a week,” he said. “I’m doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, six minutes in a cold plunge every day. I’m eating healthy right now. I was thinking, I plan on losing another 100, 100-and-something. If I feel this good down weight, man, I can only imagine what I’m going to feel like by the time I go on tour.” Jelly Roll’s Beautifully Broken Tour is set to begin in August.
In a clip from the upcoming episode of Dumb Blonde, Bunnie addressed the backlash. “My husband got off the internet because he is so tired of being bullied about his f*cking weight,” she said. “My husband doesn’t show it to you guys, but I’m going to have a very vulnerable moment here. It hurts him… The internet can say whatever the f*ck they want about you. And they say, ‘Well you’re a celebrity, you’re supposed to be able to handle it.’ No, the f*ck we’re not.” You can watch the clip below and the full episode tomorrow.
Hard rock/alternative festival Sick New World is back after its inaugural 2023 iteration. After last year brought Deftones, Korn, Incubus, and System Of A Down to the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, this year’s lineup again brings System Of A Down out, paired with Slipknot as headliners with features from Alice In Chains, Bring Me The Horizon, Danny Elfman, and A Perfect Circle. With the festival returning this Saturday, April 27, Sick New World has announced its set times, spread across five stages and running into the wee hours of the night. You can see the full schedule of set times below.
Thanks to the packed schedule, plenty of fans appear to be distraught at having to choose between seeing System Of A Down — who are only playing a handful of shows this year — and other bands playing in the same time slot, such as Sleep Token. Meanwhile, similar cross-programming conflicts appear to be terrorizing fans of Slipknot and Bring Me The Horizon, with one fan highlighting their troubles by showing off their wishlist and all the hiking — or outright teleporting — it’d entail. Fans in the comments on Sick New World’s Instagram post echoed those sentiments, expressing frustrations with the tight programming. You can see the full schedule below and get more info on sicknewworldfest.com.

The first season of Disney+‘s X-Men ’97 continues with a new episode. Now you have something to look forward to during the 30-minute gap in the day where your kid isn’t watching Bluey. Episode 7, “Bright Eyes,” is not about Conor Oberst’s band. Instead, according to Collider, it appears to be a Rogue-centric episode following the shocking events of episode 5, “Remember It”
As for when you can watch it, X-Men ’97 episode 7 will begin streaming on Disney+ at 3:00 a.m. EST / 12 a.m. PST on April 24.
X-Men ’97 star J. P. Karliak, who voices non-binary character Morph, recently spoke to Pride about the importance of representation in media. “There’s a beauty of just letting him exist,” he said. “So many of our stories are just so steeped in the transition or the coming out, and we’re more than that. There’s so much more going on than that.”
Here’s the official series synopsis:
Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.
New episodes of X-Men ’97 stream on Wednesdays on Disney+.
Since late February, St. Vincent has been rolling out her seventh album, All Born Screaming. She has been absolutely hitting with the pre-release singles and with the album dropping this Friday, April 26, there’s not much time for more of those.
A new one did arrive today (April 23), though: “Big Time Nothing.” The tune is carried by a killer electronic bass line, creating a heavy groove for some funky and alt-rock influence to lay atop. A press release notes the song “expands on the incendiary sonic palette of side one of the new album,” indicating that we’re in for a diverse album when it drops in a few days.
St. Vincent previously said of the album, “There are some places, emotionally, that you can only get to by taking the long walk into the woods alone — to find out what your heart is really saying. It sounds real because it is real.”
It’s not just St. Vincent on the album, as she also worked on the project with folks like Foo Fighters members Dave Grohl and Josh Freese, Stella Mogzawa of Warpaint, Cate Le Bon (who appears on the title track and is the project’s only credited feature), Rachel Eckroth, Mark Guiliana, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, and David Ralicke.

All Born Screaming is out 4/26 via Total Pleasure Records/Virgin Music Group. Find more information here.
Amaarae’s second album Fountain Baby has taken on a life of its own. Nearly a year after its release, the 14-track project is still heavily in rotation by fans near and far. Additionally, it’s helped to take Amaarae to all corners of the world, most recently for a performance at Dreamville Festival earlier this month.
With every spin of Fountain Baby, there’s something new to love which explains the recent surge in popularity of “Angels In Tibet.” The track was recently crowned as the fourth single from the album, joining favorites “Reckless & Sweet,” “Co-Star,” and “Wasted Eyes.” It also received a mass remix treatment thanks to a new EP that delivered new takes of the song from the likes of Juls, Kaytranada, and Aliyah’s Interlude.
The magic of Fountain Baby also comes alive onstage where Amaarae has the opportunity to present the album in a new way. The in-person experience grants the singer a control panel with all the necessary levers, nooks, and crannies needed to reimagine her album is a multitude of ways. Creating Fountain Baby is one thing and crafting a live experience behind it is another tall task, but it’s one that Amaarae was excited to accomplish from the very beginning.
Following her performance at Dreamville Festival, we caught up with Amaarae for a conversation about live performances of Fountain Baby records and what her dream concert experience for the album would look like.
When making a project like Fountain Baby, how much thought goes into what performing these songs might sound like while also maintain the cohesiveness of the project?
I thought about it a lot. When I made this project, I really went into it thinking about the performance aspect and how to really translate the songs beautifully to live. My first album, when we would do it live, it just felt very soft, it wouldn’t knock on the stage. So every time I was with the guys, I’d be like, “Yo, the drums gotta knock,” cause when we take this to the stage, people need to be slapped in the face with it. That that was a big thing, making sure those drums are heavy and you feel them, and [that] those synths are really in your face and pulsate through your body. That was a big thing for me, thinking about how it would translate live.
What’s a song from the project that made you say, “Oh, I cannot wait to perform this!” once it was done?
Probably “Co-Star” or “Princess Going Digital.”
What are some things you try to emphasize in order to really bring this album to life when you perform it?
I think lights are really important. Every time I write a song or make an album, I think about color. That’s one of the first things that I think about. So, making sure that the lights feel as intentional and as powerful as the music, and it feels almost like a beating heart and a pulse that works through the music is really important for me. I [also] think about certain live elements that I like to bring to stage like drums — mixing live drums and programmed drums to make sure that they really knock — and synths. As I get bigger and bigger and as production gets bigger and bigger, I want to have huge synths where you can really feel the power of music. Also, recently: movement. I didn’t used to be much of a dancer, I’m not a crazy dancer, I’m not a crazy dancer at all, but I kind of seen the value in finding your own swag, what works for you movement-wise, and really using that to tell the story of the music as well. I’ve enjoyed finding my own swag as a dancer, I think I have my own brand now.
Describe what would be the perfect Fountain Baby concert experience. Who would be the artists opening for and performing with you? Where would you have it? What other elements would you have? There are no limitations here.
Think about the biggest waterfall on Earth, and if I can build a stage in the waterfall where it’s seamless with the waterfall? That would be fire. I like my openers so far. I think I would stick with the openers that I have now. Talia Goddess is crazy, Amindi is crazy as well. I would have a fire DJ open for me because I think the a really great DJ can just set the tone and really prepare the audience for what’s about to come next. So I would have a really amazing DJ open up for me and yeah, I would love to do it in a waterfall, that would be spiritual to imagine.
What’s the message, feeling, or emotion that you hope people leave with after seeing you perform?
I think belief in self and the confidence to make choices that benefit them the most. I’m not a perfect person. and as I’ve been performing the album, I’ve really been listening to the lyrics and I’m like man, I was really going through something there and I was really in a shift and experiencing so much. Now, I’m realizing how much that album wasn’t even about love or lust, but it was about discovery of my own self through the good, the bad, [and] the evil, and here I am still standing. So here y’all should be still standing and we should all go forth and motherf*cking prosper.

What do you do when you find out your kid bullied someone? For many parents, the first step is forcing an apology. While this response is of course warranted, is it really effective? Some might argue that there are more constructive ways of handling the situation that teach a kid not only what they did wrong, but how to make things right again.
Single dadPatrick Forseth recently shared how he made a truly teachable moment out of his son, Lincoln, getting into trouble for bullying. Rather than forcing an apology, Forseth made sure his son was actively part of a solution.
The thought process behind his decision, which he explained in a now-viral TikTok video, is both simple and somewhat racial compared to how many parents have been encouraged to handle similar situations.
“I got an email a few days ago from my 9-year-old son’s teacher that he had done a ‘prank’ to a fellow classmate and it ended up embarrassing the classmate and hurt his feelings,” the video begins.
At this point, Forseth doesn’t split hairs. “I don’t care who you are, that’s bullying,” he said. “If you do something to somebody that you know has the potential end result of them being embarrassed in front of a class or hurt—you’re bullying.”
So, Forseth and Lincoln sat down for a long talk (a talk, not a lecture) about appropriate punishment and how it would have felt to be on the receiving end of such a prank.
From there, Forseth told his son that he would decide how to make things right, making it a masterclass in taking true accountability.
“I demanded nothing out of him. I demanded no apology, I demanded no apology to the teacher,” he continued, adding, “I told him that we have the opportunity to go back and make things right. We can’t take things back, but we can try to correct things and look for forgiveness.”
So what did Lincoln do? He went back to his school and actually talked to the other boy he pranked. After learning that they shared a love of Pokémon, he then went home to retrieve two of his favorite Pokémon cards as a peace offering, complete with a freshly cleaned case.
Lincoln would end up sharing with his dad that the other boy was so moved by the gesture that he would end up hugging him.
“I just want to encourage all parents to talk to your kids,” Forseth concluded. “Let’s try to avoid just the swat on the butt [and] send them to their room. Doesn’t teach them anything.”
In Forseth’s opinion, kids get far more insight by figuring out how to resolve a problem themselves. “That’s what they’re actually going to face in the real world once they move out of our nests.”
He certainly has a point. A slap on the wrist followed by being marched down somewhere to say, “I’m sorry,” only further humiliates kids most of the time. With this gentler approach, kids are taught the intrinsic value of making amends after wrongdoing, not to mention the power of their own autonomy. Imagine that—blips in judgment can end up being major character-building moments.
Kudos to this dad and his very smart parenting strategy.
Getting into a car crash is not something people hope they experience in their lifetimes, and if it does happen you hope it’s just a minor fender bender. Unfortunately not all car accidents are minor. One man found himself in a pretty major accident on a Minnesota highway becoming trapped in his car.
According to eye witnesses, the man struck a light pole on the highway, landing with the driver’s side of the car pinned against the guardrail. The car quickly becomes engulfed in flames as other drivers rush to the man’s side in an attempt to free him from the fiery vehicle. Kadir Tolla caught the whole thing on his dash-cam accidentally when he jumped out of his running car to help.
Multiple people fought flames trying desperately to pull the car door open to let the driver out, but the guardrail thwarts their efforts repeatedly. At some point, Tolla runs to grab a large piece of hard plastic he found on the road and attempts to break the window. Nothing seems to be going in favor of the civilian rescuers.
“He was saying, ‘pull me out, pull me out, pull me out,'” Tolla tells Fox News. “We could crack the door a little bit, you know, give him a little air. It [the flames] was actually smacking us in our face but we was just jumping back.”
Eventually a “highway helper” arrived and breaks the glass on the driver’s side window, which allows the other drivers to pull the man through the window, carrying him to safety. They got him out just in the knick of time because before they could get the unidentified man away from the car, the flames began to dance right where the driver was sitting seconds before.
The entire video is heart stopping, and shows the power of everyday people working together to save a stranger. Watch the heroic rescue below.
