PinkPantheress Explains Why Her Songs Are So Short And Dionne Warwick Doesn’t Love The Reasoning

PinkPantheress’ music is the embodiment of “here for a good time, not a long time”: Her signature hit, “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2,” is barely over two minutes long, and most of her other songs are either shorter or not much longer than that. Now, PinkPantheress has explained the mindset behind her short songs.

On ABC News’ “Prime Playlist” segment recently, PinkPantheress explained, “I was able to experiment and making short songs was just a result of me experimenting. A song doesn’t need to be longer than two minutes 30, in my opinion. We don’t need to repeat a verse, we don’t need to have a bridge, we don’t need it. We don’t need a long outro.”

Dionne Warwick caught wind of this and she doesn’t agree with the sentiment. Yesterday (May 28), she shared the PinkPantheress quote on X (formerly Twitter) with just a question mark, then added, “I am not ‘getting’ her. Artists are allowed to create their art in any way they choose. However, I do believe a bridge is important.”

Somebody who doesn’t mind the brevity of PinkPantheress’ songs, it would seem, is Usher’s son: Usher hilariously told the story of his kid stealing his phone to get in touch with PinkPantheress.

Anthony Edwards Promised Micah Parsons He’ll ‘Bring Him Back Some Nice Shoes For Game 6’

anthony edwards
TNT

Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves will live to fight another day in the Western Conference Finals. Despite finding themselves on the verge of being swept before Game 4 against the Mavericks in Dallas, Edwards went for 29 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists to lead his team to a 105-100 win that keeps their season alive for at least one more game.

If the Wolves can now defend their home court on Thursday, the series will return to Dallas for what should be a very interesting Game 6, as the Mavs would go from being in total control of things to in a situation where they absolutely cannot lose. And based on a conversation he had with someone courtside, it sure seems like Edwards is excited to get back, and in the event the Wolves are able to make one more trip to Dallas, he plans on making sure one notable Mavs fan gets something out of this.

Edwards has gotten pretty good at making these sorts of predictions — he claimed that he told the Denver Nuggets’ locker room staff that he’d see them for Game 7 after the Wolves lost Game 5 of that series. That ended up coming true, so this means Micah Parsons is in a win-win situation, because either the next game in Dallas is going to be an NBA Finals game, or he’s about to get a pair of free sneakers.

The Wolves Rode A Big Night From Anthony Edwards To Win Game 4 Over The Mavs

The Minnesota Timberwolves will not be swept in the Western Conference Finals. With the team on the verge of heading to the offseason and the crowd in Dallas hoping to see their team earn a berth in the NBA Finals, Anthony Edwards was able to lead Minnesota to a 105-100 win over the Mavericks to make it a 3-1 series.

Edwards came out and looked like a man possessed on both ends of the court. After struggling from the field in the first three games of the series, Edwards came out in attack mode on offense and took on the Doncic assignment admirably on defense. He lived at the free throw line in the opening frame, too, going 5-for-8 from the stripe as he scored 14 first quarter points.

The Minnesota defense was tenacious, too, as it held Dallas to 6-for-21 shooting in the first. If not for a late burst at the end of the quarter, the Mavs would have had a far more daunting mountain to climb heading into the second, but instead, the Wolves lead was only 27-20.

Turnovers and fouls both turned out to be a huge problem for Minnesota as the second quarter went on. Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Rudy Gobert all picked up three fouls in the first half, while Dallas scored 20 points off of nine turnovers by their opponents. And with a little more than five minutes remaining, the Mavs got right back into the game — after trailing by as many as 12 points, Dallas ripped off an 11-0 run to take the lead.

The Timberwolves were able to settle down and not get caught up in the avalanche, with Mike Conley in particular doing an exceptional job running the show. As such, the two teams went into the locker room tied at 49, with both Doncic and Edwards going for 17 points to lead their respective teams.

Neither team was able to open up a lead of larger than five points in the third quarter. The first blow was landed by Dallas, which controlled the opening few minutes of the third thanks in large part to the play of Doncic and Daniel Gafford. And then, an 8-0 run by the Wolves in which Towns scored six points put them back ahead, and gave them a lead they would not relinquish throughout the remainder of the quarter.

While Jaden Hardy gave the Mavs a bit of energy towards the end of the third, Minnesota found itself in the driver’s seat going into the fourth with a 78-73 lead.

The early part of the final period was incredibly tense, as neither team was able to open up a comfortable lead — every time Minnesota started to create a little breathing room, Dallas would come right back down the floor and hit a shot that started to get the crowd into the game.

After a brutal first half, Towns started to show up later in the game, which included hitting back-to-back threes that took the air out of the building and put the Wolves up by five.

Minnesota was able to get its lead up to eight points thanks to a well-timed 11-2 run, but with 97 seconds left, Towns fouled out of the game while Doncic was shooting a three. He knocked down all three of his attempts from the charity stripe, Dallas got a stop, and after a bucket by Kyrie Irving, Minnesota’s lead was down to only three entering the final minute.

But Edwards would not be denied on the night. He patiently waited for an opportunity to present itself, and while he was one step inside the free throw line, he pulled up and knocked down a jumper.

The door got cracked open in the wildest of ways after Conley split a pair of free throws, as Doncic came down the floor and jacked up a three with the hopes something would go in. Not only did that happen, but Doncic got fouled, meaning he got to step up to the free throw line.

While he was able to do the hard part, Doncic’s free throw rimmed out. And after a timeout, Minnesota was able to draw up a layup for Naz Reid to secure the win.

Edwards had one of the best all-around games of his playoff career, going for 29 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Towns had 25 points, while Gobert had a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Conley stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, seven assists, four steals, and three rebounds. Doncic had his fingerprints all over the game for the Mavericks, as he had 28 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists, although he only hit seven of his 21 attempts from the floor. Poor shooting nights were a theme for Dallas, as Irving (16 points, 6-for-18 shooting) and P.J. Washington (10 points, 3-for-13 shooting) really struggled from the field.

The two teams will now hop on planes and make their way back to Minnesota, where the Target Center will hope to spur the Timberwolves on to another win that continues to extend the series. Game 5 between the two teams will take place on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. EST on TNT.

Sharon Van Etten Announced A 10th Anniversary Edition Of ‘Are We There’ And Shared An Alternative Version Of ‘Every Time The Sun Comes Up’

Sharon Van Etten has a big milestone ahead of her. Earlier this month marked the 10th anniversary of Are We There, her critically-acclaimed fourth studio album. To celebrate the anniversary, Van Etten announced a special anniversary edition of Are We There, releasing this week.

The special anniversary edition features new versions of the fan favorite, “Every Time The Sun Comes Up.” One of the updated versions features Van Etten on vocals, Jorge Balbi on percussion, Charley Damski on guitar, Devin Hoff on bass, and Teeny Liebrson on keys.

“We were rehearsing for the We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong Tour, leaning into some of our influences to give the song a more current feel to where we were all creatively at the time,” said Van Etten in a statement. We performed it live and the audience really responded to our new Joy Division-like spin on it. We had the idea to release it to celebrate the Are We There 10-year anniversary and breathe new life into it, which feels like the perfect time.”

Van Etten looks back on recording Are We There fondly. The 10th anniversary edition will be accompanied with both a digital and vinyl release, the lattermost containing a new note from Van Etten.

“The whole time I was making Are We There, I was commuting to Hobo Sound from an apartment in the city,” said Van Etten in a statement, “and I took a train to the bus station and walked from the Lincoln tunnel to the studio in Weehawken, NJ. Making this record, my bandmates (Doug Keith, Heather Woods Broderick, and Zeke Hutchins) quickly became my family, and I realized I sought refuge in the studio. It was where I felt nurtured. It felt like home. I was able to find myself and I feel like that vulnerability and strength was captured through the collaborations on this album. The name of this album represents, for me, a place I departed from but with an acknowledgment that I haven’t yet arrived.”

You can listen to “Every Time The Sun Comes Up (Alternative Version)” and see the Are We There (Anniversary Edition) artwork below.

Feast your eyes on photos of Costco food court menus from around the world

Few Costco staples are as well loved as its food court. Though the selection consists of simple fast food, certain dishes have become culinary icons—not least of which being the famously unchanged $1.50 hot dog and soda combo meal. And when certain fan favorites exit the menu…oh boy.

Costco food courts are such a hot discussion topic among shoppers that recently an entire Reddit thread was dedicated to exploring different Costco food courts around the world. It’s both interesting to take and look at some of the differences, and soothing to know that no matter where you are in the world…affordable food options await.

England

byu/The2ndenlightenment inCostco

As would be expected, this food court offers a very similar selection to that in the US. Soft-serve ice cream, pizza, baked chicken…the usual.

But an American would never expect to see “jacket potato” on the menu, which is the UK name for a baked potato. Plus the toppings are a bit exotic. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never considered piling baked beans or tuna on top of a cooked spud.

This Costco food court also sells the mango smoothie that went viral on TikTok but still only made a short lived debut in America. Or you could be extra fancy and get a gelato cone. Yum.

And in case you were wondering. Yes, there’s a hot dog combo meal. It averages out to about $1.90 USD.

Korea

byu/kindofharmless inCostco

Here you can still get the hot dog combo meal (for about $147 USD), but it will be an all-pork hot dog rather than the standard all-beef one. But you’ll probably just go for the churros, since (tragically) these are a rare commodity in the US.

But if you’re feeling adventurous, go for a strawberry latte, bulgogi pizza or a bowl of mushroom soup. Or all three!

Iceland

Here the hot dog meal is a wee bit more pricey (around $2.18 USD), but that’s still cheaper than the $8 cheeseburger.

However, the real talked about menu item is the “mexican baka,” which one commenter explained was “like a burrito with pizza dough.” Sold!

Japan

The Food Court Line up Today in Tokyo!
byu/PlatformFrequent4052 inCostco

Feast on bulgogi bakes, shrimp katsu burgers, cold brew coffees, clam chowder and perhaps the cheapest hot dog combo in the world at $1.15 USD.

Canada

Updated Canadian Food Court menu
byu/thermal7 inCostco

Anyone who has been to both a Canadian and an American Costco will tell you that there are a few key differences between the two locations, including the food courts.

For one thing, the Canadian Costco sells french fries—arguably one of the most American foods ever, which makes it surprising that it’s not on the American Costco menu. Some guessed that that was because the American locations don’t have deep fryers installed.

Just imagine having some fries to go with that $1.50 hot dog meal. Or a Polish hot dog, if you prefer (another item only available at Canadian Costcos).

That’s just a small sampling of what some Costcos have to offer worldwide. While they all have something that makes them unique, the budget-friendly hotdog meal goes largely unchanged no matter what. Perhaps there shouldn’t be comfort in that, but there is.

Megan Boni, Of ‘Man In Finance’ TikTok Fame, Revealed She Quit Her Job After Signing A Licensing Deal

The “Man In Finance” woman no longer needs a man in finance. Today (May 28), Billboard reported that Megan Boni, the TikTok user behind the “Man In Finance” viral trend signed a deal with Capitol/Polydor/Virgin Germany.

For content, the sound was first shared in a video Boni made on April 30, in which, she parodies independent artists rhetorically asking “Did I just write the song of the summer?”

In the clip, Boni asks “Did I just write the song of the summer?” She then lists requirements for a man who wishes to be her lover.

“I’m looking for a man in finance, trust fund, 6’5”, blue eyes,” Boni said in vocal fry. The sound has since been remixed by several EDM producers and DJs, including David Guetta, Alesso, Loud Luxury and Billen Ted.

In a Billboard interview, Boni admitted she never expected the sound to take off the way that it did.

“I just thought it would be funny to make a video making fun of those single girls who are always complaining about being single,” said Boni, “but yet they want an impossible laundry list of things in a boyfriend, and by the way, that’s myself included.”

But once it started gaining traction, her friend, music manager Amanda Rovitz, along with entertainment lawyer Todd Rubenstein had Boni on phone calls with record labels in less than a week.

The deal is only a licensing agreement for the “Man In Finance” to allow producers to use the sound. So don’t expect a full length album from Boni in the future.

“I won’t make more music unless it’s a parody… but I am definitely behind this song,” said Boni.

Boni also noted that she plans to tap into her creativity full time.

“I put in my two weeks last Thursday,” said Boni. “I’m really excited for what’s next.”

John Mayer Offered Some Thoughtful Advice Following The Passing Of Bill Walton

Bill Walton‘s unfortunate death has shaken the sports world. But fans everywhere are showing their love.

Today (May 28), singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist John Mayer took to social media to honor Walton. In his post, Mayer noted that Walton “had an eye toward the truly important stuff, the stuff we already know better than to lose sight of, but often do.”

Mayer also recalled the impact Walton made, by way of “his kindness, his encouragement, and his friendship.”

While Walton’s passing has been tough to accept, Mayer offered some advice, inspired by his friend, as well as Grateful Dead.

“…[W]hen times get tough, everything will be okay if you just pretend to be Bill Walton,” Mayer said.

You can read Mayer’s full touching tribute below.

Bill Walton lived a life that the rest of us could only hope to achieve on our second (or third) go-round. He had an eye toward the truly important stuff, the stuff we already know better than to lose sight of, but often do. One of Bill’s great talents was to reorient you so as to stand bedside him and see the light in life that he refused to break eye contact with.

The climb to acceptance is steep in the Grateful Dead universe, and Bill gave me a huge lift up those stairs with his kindness, his encouragement, and his friendship. He will be so deeply missed, but his approach to life will never be forgotten. I think it’s pretty good advice that when times get tough, everything will be okay if you just pretend to be Bill Walton. Thank you Bill

Charli XCX Couldn’t Help But Tear Up At A Young Boy’s Idea Of A Party On ‘Recess Therapy’

Charli XCX is for the children. Ahead of her new album, Brat, which is set to arrive in time for our dancefloor-ready summer, Charli made an appearance on the New York City-set video series, Recess Therapy. During which, Charli was joined by the show’s host Julian Shapiro-Barnum, and a young boy named Leif.

Though Charli’s music makes for a great party, and her upcoming album is expected to be stacked with fast-paced club tracks, Leif actually said he doesn’t like parties. “Everybody’s so energized. I don’t like being energized.”

Shapiro-Barnum asked Leif “If you had to throw a party, or you had to go to a party, what would that party be like?”

To which, Leif responded “Do my own thing.”

Same, kid. Same.

Even Charli couldn’t help but tear up at Leif’s adorably relatable response.

“Charli, does this resonate with you?” asked Shapiro-Barnum.

“Yeah, it really does,” she responded. “Sometimes you just want to do your own thing.”

Elsewhere in the clip, Leif tells Charli and Shapiro-Barnum that his favorite genre of music is heavy metal. Charli plays Leif a heavy metal track, however he doesn’t appear to take to it well.

You can see the Recess Therapy clip above.

Brat is out 6/7 via Atlantic. Find more information here.
