How ‘Bridgerton’ created an iconic wig that actually moves for one of its key characters

When it comes to period pieces, the look is crucial. It requires skilled craftspeople with both meticulous attention to detail and enough creative vision to bring characters to life in a way that’s captivating and believable all at the same time. One hair out of place, one wonky blouse…and suddenly the entire story feels cheapened.

Netflix’s hit series “Bridgerton” is a brilliant example of this. The creators behind the hair, makeup and costumes have pulled off one ambitious look after another—all of which nail the story’s unique blend of lavish period romance with innovative modern sensibilities. Honestly, even if period pieces aren’t your thing, you gotta marvel at what they’ve accomplished aesthetically.

One particularly talked about costume piece came from the show’s latest season: Queen Charlotte (played by Golda Resheuvel)’s jaw-dropping swan wig, which is a bona fide masterpiece that has actual moving glass swans.

If you have seen it—do not fret, dear reader. The official “Bridgerton” Instagram page posted a video starring the signature piece. Check it out below:

What kind of witchcraft is this?!…you might be thinking to yourself. But while this wig is certainly magical, it’s actually the result of smart engineering.

Emma Rigby, the magician behind Queen Charlotte’s wig, gave a little behind-the-scenes look at how it all came to be.

In a video posted to her own Instagram page, Rigby said that she initially felt “panicked” when “Bridgerton”’s hair and makeup designer Erika Okvist shared her concept. Making something that was both mechanically complex and light enough for the actor to be comfortable would be no easy feat.

But in the clip we see how with some hidden wires, a 3D printed carousel, and a hollow cage-like mold to hold everything in place, it’s actually not so impossible.

Watch, and be amazed:

Isn’t that the coolest thing ever? People were so impressed down in the comments.

“This will go down in the history of costume design. Very well done, ingenious actually,” one person wrote.

Another added, “This costume was glorious…if you guys don’t get an Emmy nomination it will be a crime 🙌”

“I was left speechless by this one,” said a third.

Of course, this is just one of the many, many extravagant wigs that have graced the show. Check out the video below to see the whole scope of what these folks create, and how they create it. It’s a fun watch whether you’re a diehard “Bridgerton” fan or have never seen a single episode.

Lizzo Reacts To Her ‘Worst Fear’ Of Being Referenced On ‘South Park’ Becoming A Reality

The Simpsons are jokingly known for seemingly predicting the future. On the other hand, South Park‘s strongest quality is the writers’ ability to humorously spin current events. In its South Park: The End Of Obesity, the comedy took on weight loss drug Ozempic’s rise and Lizzo’s body positivity advocacy.

Yesterday (May 25), the “Pink” singer took to Instagram to share her reaction to being mentioned in the special. “My worst fear has been actualized,” she said. “I’ve been referenced in a ‘South Park’ episode. I’m so scared.”

To summarizes the segment Lizzo reacted to, Kyle’s mother (Sheila Broflovski) and Stan’s mother (Sharon Marsh) discuss Sheila’s past concerns around her weight. Instead of taking to Ozempic or Mounjaro, Sheila opted for the fictitious diet suppressor, Lizzo. Rather than losing weight, users shake their desire to exercise or care of others opinions.

“That’s crazy,” she said. “I just feel like, ‘Damn. I’m really that b*tch.’ I’m really that b*tch. I really showed the world how to love yourself and not give a f*ck to the point where these men in Colorado know who the f*ck I am. And put it on their cartoon, that’s been around for twenty-five years. I’m really that b*tch. And I showed y’all how to not give a f*ck and I’m going to keep showing y’all not to give a f*ck.”

She closed out her reaction video by singing the episode faux jingle.

Watch the full clip below.

You can watch South Park: The End of Obesity special is available on Paramount+. Find more information here.

Gen Xers wonder how the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy would be handled by adults today

For the baby boomer generation, the question “Where were you when JFK was shot?” evokes a core memory. For Gen Xers, it’s “Where were you when the Challenger exploded?” Nearly four decades later, most of us can still recall where we were when the tragic mission went terribly wrong.

Most of us were in classrooms. The space shuttle mission had been hyped in schools across the country for months, as high school teacher Christa McAuliffe had been chosen from 11,000 applicants to become the first civilian in space. McAuliffe had done countless interviews and been part of news and television specials showing how she was being trained for the mission, and by the time of the launch, she’d become a household name.

the seven astronauts on the crew of the space shuttle challenger

Seven astronauts, including teacher Christa McAuliffe, were killed in the Challenger explosion. NASA/Public Domain

On January 28, 1986, millions of children across the country were eagerly watching the live TV feed in their classrooms when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded mid-air, just 73 seconds after liftoff. Confusion followed by shock and horror set in as we realized that we’d just watched seven people die in real time—six astronauts, who held almost god-like status for kids in the 1980s, and a woman who could have been any of our favorite teachers.

I was in 5th grade. My teacher cried. Then she turned off the television and we just…went back to class.

Gen X is sometimes referred to as the forgotten generation—the latchkey kids raised by two working parents who learned to be independent as well as cynical and aloof due to benign neglect. But as a social media meme points out, the Challenger tragedy and aftermath serves as an example of why we are the way we are.

The meme shared by Gen X Only on Facebook reads, “If you ever wonder why Gen X is the way it is, remember that teachers hyped a rocket launch and astronauts that then exploded in front of us. No counseling, no hugs or reassurances. They just assigned more homework. And this is just a sample.”

middle aged woman's face with text overlay

Gen Xers in the comments then shared their memories of that day, and they do make one wonder how differently schools would respond if the same thing happened today. Mental health wasn’t a big focus in schools in the 80s, and the idea that kids were traumatized by what they saw and might need some help processing it barely seemed like a blip on the radar.

“Saw it in my 4th grade class with my favorite teacher Ms.waters , I just remember my teacher crying and walking out of the classroom .I was super confused I remember that, I know what we just watched wasn’t normal! and we went on with our day literally, no mention of it I don’t remember at home or anything.” – Stacey R.

“Yep, saw it live, then they turned off tv and went on with class. Not sure what the guidance counselors did in those days??!!” – Kim M.

“I’ll never forget this.I was in Spanish class, watching. When it exploded, there was gasps and silent confusion….Silence for what felt like forever. Spanish teacher broke from her rule of Spanish only in class. She looked at us with tears rolling down her face and said, “I can’t believe that just happened…..(turns off TV, wipes tears) please pull out your book and turn to page (whatever it was)”.And that was that.” – Kelli L.

“It was traumatic! The TV gets rolled in on its cart. We learn all about the average person on the flight, a teacher, I mean how cool you can be a teacher and go to space. Classroom is all a buzz as we count down with the TV 3, 2, 1! Then wham giant explosion, wait, hold up, did everyone just die? Everyone, even the teacher is in total shock, the TV is still on as we hear them say the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded, and there are no survivors. We all just sat in shock. I don’t think it sank in for some of the kids what we had just witnessed. For those of us that understood it was a very strange day, a very strange few days. NOBODY talked about what we had witnessed. We just went through the motions of school, without any help to process it. We never watched any shuttle take off after that, and we used to watch all of them. When the TV got rolled in there wasn’t as much excitement as usual for the rest of the school year. And we all just moved on, because we didn’t know what else to do, the adults just acted like it didn’t happen.” – Lori G.

“I was in 3rd grade…I remember watching it in class after spending all week doing special projects because an ‘average’ person who was a teacher was gonna get to go to space…it blew up and we thought there was a fireworks show because of how special this launch was hyped to be…And then we went about our day..” – David K.

Millennials had 9/11 as kids. Gen Z has seen school shooting after school shooting. Both Gen Z and Gen Alpha had the COVID pandemic onset as a core childhood memory.

But those younger generations have grown up with much more sensitivity and adult awareness when it comes to mental health issues. Teachers have more training in trauma and there’s a better understanding that kids could be affected emotionally by witnessing something like the Challenger disaster. Some schools and classes held remembrances and memorials for the Challenger crew, planting trees in their honor and whatnot, which may have helped bring some closure to the event for some. But for many Gen X kids, all we remember was the horror of it happening and then a complete lack of any kind of processing of it—just a near-immediate moving on.

Was the unspoken “Life is tough, move on” message we received through that experience helpful or harmful to Gen Xers’ development? Who knows. There’s a fine line between traumatizing and toughening, and that line is likely different for each person. But it’s interesting to think about how differently that event might be handled today with our greater grasp of how trauma works and knowing how weird it was to have so little acknowledgment of it at the time.

Wholesome exchange between a Black woman a white man is giving people faith in humanity

Of course, racism and hatred are very real issues, and ones that we must discuss in order to make progress. But with all the coverage of people behaving badly flooding our awareness through the media and online, it can be easy to write-off humanity entirely. To believe that the world is inherently a divisive, dangerous and ultimately declining place to live. When in reality, not everything is so bleak.

That’s what makes sharing this story so important.

A Black woman named Jo’lee Shine was stuck in her overheated car in front of a stranger’s house, waiting for a tow truck to arrive.

When a white man, the homeowner, began approaching her, Jo’lee immediately started recording the interaction. And thank goodness she did, because this was a moment worth immortalizing.

“I’m so sorry, my car ran hot,” she says in the clip, and begins trying to start the car to prove her situation.

And then, in the sweetest southern accent you ever heard, we hear “don’t try to crank it baby.”

When then hear him offer to put water in the car, made sure Jo’lee had coming to pick her up, and then…wait for it…asked if she wanted lunch.

“We’ll be eating lunch shortly. While we wait on [the tow truck] if we get everything set up I’ll come get you and we’ll have dinner,” he says.

This brings Jo’lee to instant tears. “That was so sweet,” she whimpers.

With a chuckle, the man replies, “that’s the way we are.” he then shared how he just had 22 people over at his house the night before for “a family gathering.”

Jo’lee declines the lunch offer, but profusely thanks the kind stranger as she wipes the tears that continue to fall. Just before he goes, the man says that he’ll check back in, joking that the tow truck “might be delayed” and she might change her mind.

In her caption, Jo’lee wrote, “I wasn’t going to post this, but I wanted people to know that they’re still good people in this world.”

Seems like that mission was accomplished. The video, which has gotten over 176,000 likes on Instagram, gave everyone a little dose of hope. Just take a look at some of these lovely comments:

“This is who we are…it sucks that movies have put fear in people to that level. That makes me sad that there’s fear and division keeping us all from sharing love that I KNOW is in all of us.”

“The media works to divide us, don’t believe their lies. We love all people.. God Bless.”

“I’ll come get you when we get dinner on the table?!!” ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🙌”

“The way he called you baby without a mean tone in his soul.”

“This renews my faith in humanity. He tried to help her without any thought of race.”

“Just when we think humanity has died, this happens ♥️. Human kindness for the win.”

Indeed, the world has its’ Karens…and even worse characters. But it also has people who invite strangers to dinner, just because it’s a nice thing to do…because it’s the “way they are.” It’s the way a lot of us are, when we let ourselves be.

Nicki Minaj Has Issued A Statement Following Her Arrest In Amsterdam For Drug-Related Charges

Nicki Minaj is officially a free woman.

Yesterday (May 25), the “Barbie World” rapper was arrested while traveling in Amsterdam, Netherlands. According to Dutch authorities, Nicki was detained for “exporting soft drugs” in relation to the pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes reportedly found in her possession. Now, the entertainer is speaking out regarding the incident.

Late yesterday evening, Nicki released a statement on her official X (formerly Twitter) account. “Thank you to everyone who prayed for me today,” she wrote. “May God cover you & all that is connected to you. May you be blessed beyond your imagination.”

In the second half of Nicki’s note, she explained why her Pink Friday 2 World Tour stop in Manchester, England was postponed despite her having been released by law enforcement. “After sitting in a jail cell for 5–6 hours, my plane still didn’t take off for another 20 mins once I boarded,” she wrote. “The flight was 50 mins. That’s why they had to do the big song and dance because they knew I’d still find a way to perform even if it came down to my last 90 mins in the building, which would have been until 11:30 p.m. The building was willing to go past 11 p.m. So grateful to them for that.”

Although Nicki’s scheduled show did not take place, she decided to host an impromptu meet-and-greet near her hotel.

She also promised to circle back to the city to makeup for the missed performance. “Please please please accept my deepest and most sincere apologies,” she wrote. “They sure did know exactly how to hurt me today, but this, too, shall pass. We will have another date for tonight’s show shortly, and I’ll probably be able to share it tomorrow. One July option & one June option is currently being discussed. I’ll find a way to not only make up the date with the performance. But I’m going to create an added bonus for everyone that had a ticket for this show. Promise.”

Nicki didn’t let up on Dutch authorities. In a separate post, she pointed out that she wasn’t the only Black woman to seemingly have experienced racially charged mistreatment. Nicki reposted the statement shared after Ari Lennox’s 2021 arrest in the country.

At this time, a new date has not yet been revealed for the rescheduled Pink Friday 2 World Tour shows.

The Aces Showed Their Extra Gear In Blowout Win Over Caitlin Clark And The Fever

LAS VEGAS — For the last two seasons, the Las Vegas Aces have been the No. 1 topic in the WNBA. Of course, that happens when a team wins back-to-back titles in impressive fashion, but there was considerable anticipation for Saturday’s matchup between the Aces and the Indiana Fever, featuring No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark. For most of the first half, the two teams put on a show, and the Fever seemed to build on their first win of the season on Friday evening. However, Las Vegas was the fresher, more talented team in this battle, pulling away en route to a 99-80 victory.

Indiana performed well at the outset, particularly on the offensive end. Kelsey Mitchell and Clark converted back-to-back three-pointers to give the Fever a narrow lead midway through the opening period.

On the other side, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young had it going for the Aces. Plum and Young each scored nine points in the first quarter, contributing to a break-neck overall pace.

All told, the two teams combined for 52 points and 51.4 percent shooting in the first quarter, with sky-high transition frequency and pace contributing to entertaining play. Indiana took its largest lead of the half at 32-26 early in the second quarter but, from there, the rest of the half belonged to Las Vegas.

The Aces clamped down defensively, holding the Fever to only four points in almost seven full minutes. The end result was a 20-4 extended run to give Las Vegas an eight-point advantage into halftime after holding Indiana to 4-of-15 shooting with five turnovers in the period.

After an ugly offensive quarter in the second, Indiana found a different gear coming out of the locker room. The Fever scored the first five points of the second half and generated 11 points in fewer than three minutes to climb within a four of the defending champs.

On the other end, however, Las Vegas continued to light it up. The Aces produced 12 points of their own in the first three minutes, actually lengthening the lead. The trio of Plum, Young, and A’ja Wilson scored 55 of the team’s first 58 points, striking an impressive tone.

While the Aces had already asserted some level of control, Las Vegas truly throttled Indiana with a run down the stretch of the third quarter. Over the final 5:51 of the period, the Aces out-scored the Fever by a 14-5 margin, and Las Vegas received supporting contributions from Alysha Clark and former Iowa standout Kate Martin.

The fourth quarter was more of the same, with the Aces leading by as many as 23 points and removing their stars with approximately four minutes to go in the game. While the schedule was objectively favorable to Las Vegas given a significant rest advantage, it was also clear that the Aces remain a step (or two) ahead of a team like Indiana.

Wilson finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds, dominating the game with impressive and notable consistency. Plum was dynamic throughout the game, breaking the paint with regularity and forcing Indiana to react without the ability to stay in front. Despite a shaky 7-of-18 shooting night, Plum finished with 20 points and seven assists, with Young playing tremendous defense and adding 22 points and six assists.

For the Fever, there were some notable highs, especially on offense, but after a strong start, it is possible that tired legs caught up to a team that played a high-octane game on Friday in Los Angeles. Clark is certainly experiencing the growing pains normally associated with the transition to the professional game and she was never able to get fully comfortable on the way to eight points, seven assists, and six turnovers. Clark did have moments, including some “wow” passes, but she and Aliyah Boston (12 points, six rebounds) were merely solid, rather than spectacular, and both players needed to be better to pull off what would’ve been a considerable upset on the road.

Three meetings remain this season between the Aces and Fever, with the two on Indiana’s home court not coming until September. However, a July 2 rematch in Las Vegas should garner significant attention, with the game moving across the Strip to T-Mobile Arena in front of what promises to be a raucous crowd. On Saturday, the split between the Aces, even without Chelsea Gray, and the Fever was present and prominent, and while it was only one data point, it was perhaps a reminder to anyone who needed it that the Aces have a gear few other teams can reach.

The Celtics Pulled Off A Double-Digit Comeback To Move One Win Away From The NBA Finals

tatum top

The Boston Celtics needed to come back from as many as 18 points down on Saturday night in Game 3 against the Tyrese Haliburton-less Indiana Pacers. And while it came down to the final moments of the game, Boston was able to get the job done, picking up a 114-111 win in Gainbridge Fieldhouse to move one win away from a sweep and a berth in the NBA Finals.

The thought coming into Game 3 was that Boston would simply run Indiana off the floor. While the Pacers have been outstanding in their own building this postseason, having to beat a Celtics team with a major talent advantage while Haliburton watched on the sideline with an injury seemed to be too much to overcome, and early on, it looked like that would be the case. Boston spent much of the first quarter getting anything it wanted, opening up a lead of as many as nine points.

And then, the Pacers attacked the rim over, and over, and over again. Led by the Andrew Nembhard, Pascal Siakam, Myles Turner, and T.J. McConnell off of the bench, Indiana had a startling 42-18 edge on points in the paint, as the team repeatedly cooked Boston’s perimeter defense and got good looks near the rim.

They led by as many as 18 points, and shot a scintillating 28-for-44 (63.6 percent) from the field. And as a result, despite a 20-point half by Jayson Tatum and the Celtics having a solid shooting half (50 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from three), the Pacers took a 69-57 lead into the locker room at halftime, with Nembhard doing an excellent job filling the hole Haliburton left to the tune of 21 points and five rebounds in the first half.

While Indiana was able to get its lead back up to 18 early on in the third quarter, Boston was not deterred, and never quite let the Pacers land the knockout blow — their defense became a little more secure in the third, as they limited Indiana to only 21 points in the period.

Whether that inability to put Boston away breathed some life into the Celtics or not is unclear, but the 1-seed in the East started to ramp up its intensity on the defensive end of the floor. Eventually, that led to a bit of success on offense, too, as Boston was able to able to go on a 10-2 run late in the third to cut the lead down to as few as seven. While a Doug McDermott tip-in to close the third snapped the run, the once-gigantic Indiana lead was down to 90-81 as the game entered its final 12 minutes.

Boston continued to chip away to start the final frame, and got the lead down to three points thanks to an early 9-3 run. Indiana did have a response, though, as the team created a little breathing room by getting the lead back up to seven.

Back and forth the two teams went, with the Celtics having a response for everything the Pacers did and vice versa. Even when Brown had one of the nastiest dunks of the playoffs, Nembhard came right back down and dropped a jumper to inject some life back into Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

But the Celtics just would not die, and with his seventh three of the night, Al Horford made sure it would be a two-point game as things entered the final minute. And after a Pacers miss, Jrue Holiday made his way into the paint, made a layup, got fouled, and converted from the charity stripe to give Boston a 112-111 lead with 39 seconds to go.

Nembhard couldn’t knock down a jumper as Indiana decided to go for a 2-for-1, but the door got cracked open as a Tatum layup did not go down. Instead of calling a timeout and drawing up a play, Rick Carlisle decided to let them play it out, but Holiday stonewalled Nembhard as he attempted to drive and poked the ball away from him.

Holiday got fouled and knocked down both free throws, meaning Indiana needed a three in the final 1.7 seconds to extend the game. And while they were able to get a clean look, Aaron Nesmith’s effort did not go down.

Tatum was the star on the night, going for 36 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, two blocks, and a steal. Horford turned back the clock by going for 23 points and hitting seven threes, while Brown had 24. Nembhard’s 32 points led Indiana, while McConnell stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and a steal. Both Siakam and Turner scored 22 points.

Indiana will now fight for its playoff life in Game 4, while Boston finds itself one win away from making it to the NBA Finals. Game 4 will take place on Monday night at 8 p.m. EST on ESPN.

Alyssa Thomas Got Ejected For Slamming Angel Reese To The Ground On A Rebound

thomas-reese-top
CBS Sports Network

Much of the discussion early in this WNBA season has been about the incredibly talented 2024 rookie class. The headliner is top overall pick Caitlin Clark, but there are a number of hopeful young stars that are just getting their careers started, from Cameron Brink in Los Angeles to Angel Reese in Chicago.

Reese’s Sky squad has impressed early this season, getting off to a 2-1 start, but faced the last remaining unbeaten in the WNBA on Saturday night when the Connecticut Sun came to town. The Sun have enjoyed going up against top picks this year, handing Clark and the Fever a pair of losses already, and the veteran laden squad has looked to welcome youngsters to the league by introducing them to their physicality.

On Saturday night, Reese got a taste of that from last year’s MVP finalist Alyssa Thomas, who got ejected after slamming the former LSU star to the court while going for a rebound in the late third quarter.

Thomas got hit with a Flagrant 2 upon review, as the referees saw her get her arm up around Reese’s neck and then threw her down, and said that was enough of that. Reese popped up and hit both of her free throws after, shaking off the hard hit to give the Sky a brief one-point advantage.

Disney added yet another celebrity child to their casting ranks. This coming December, Blue Ivy Carter will co-star alongside her mother, Beyoncé, in Mufasa: The Lion King. Before the CGI-animated prequel hits theaters, lovers of The Lion King were treated to another musical dose of the classic film.

Yesterday (May 24), North West joined in on the fun as part of the film’s 30th anniversary show (Disney’s The Lion King 30th Anniversary – A Live-to-Film Concert Event) at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. In the role of Young Simba, West displayed both her acting and singing skills performing one of the movie’s breakout song, “I Just Can’t Wait to be King.”

In the sold-out crowd, West received support from both of her famous family, including dad Ye (better known as Kanye West), mother Kim Kardashian, and grandmother Kris Jenner. As she left the stage, Kim was waiting close by to embrace her daughter following her major accomplishment.

On Instagram, Kim continued the love by uploading images of the flower arrangement sent to West, along with custom cookies made with West’s face.
