Rich Paul Believes The Lakers Should ‘Probably’ Focus More On Anthony Davis Than LeBron James

The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a fascinating offseason, as the team is in the market for a new coach on the heels of a 47-win season and a first-round loss to the Denver Nuggets. LeBron James isn’t getting any younger, and the team has real stuff it can play with in the trade market in an effort to upgrade the roster.

Through all of this, Anthony Davis is coming off of one of his best seasons as a professional, both in terms of performance (he earned All-NBA Second Team honors) and availability (he appeared in 76 games, the most in his career). For the uncertainty surrounding the team in its efforts to get back to a championship level, Davis is a constant. Perhaps that is why, in a new interview with Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Rich Paul stressed that Davis, not James, is the Klutch client the Lakers should focus on as it builds its team. Haynes asked about James’ involvement in the team’s current coaching search due to J.J. Redick’s candidacy, and after expressing that James is not involved, Paul slid in his belief that Davis should be the team’s centerpiece right now.

Via Bleacher Report:

But as for the coaching search, this is a Lakers’ decision. I always advise LeBron or anybody for that matter not to really position yourself in a manner of which you have a hand so strong in a decision that could come back to bite you down the road. With every team he’s been on as the best player, you have some type of insight or the team may ask about your thoughts.

That goes for every superstar. In my opinion, the Lakers focus should probably be more so on Anthony Davis than LeBron at this point. I think for him being so good for so long, people just think he controls the team. There’s no controlling of the team.

It makes sense on the surface — Davis is younger and under contract until at least 2027, while James keeps dropping hints about his time in the NBA coming to an end sometime soon. Still, James has been the focal point of every team he’s been on from the day he stepped into the NBA, and it’s quite the sea change for his agent and longtime friend to explicitly say that his team’s focus should be on someone else.

‘The Bear’ Is As Stressful As Ever In The Season 3 Teaser Trailer

Have your stress levels still not recovered from the guest star-filled “Fishes” episode of The Bear? Then maybe don’t watch the teaser trailer for season 3, which finds Carmy (played by Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) doing what they do best: cooking and yelling.

“You feel good?” Sydney asks Carmy while they’re prepping in the kitchen. “We’ll see,” he replies. Later, Richie yells about “getting drilled out there.” Sounds like someone needs to relax with some Taylor Swift.

You can watch the teaser above.

The Bear season 3 follows Carmy, Sydney, and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they attempt to “elevate The Bear, their beef stand turned fine dining establishment, to the highest level, all while doing their best just to stay in business,” according to the FX synopsis. Surely opening a resturant is easy and no anxiety-spiking issues will arise, right? Right…?

Here’s more:

It’s a losing battle every single day in the restaurant business. Carmy pushes himself harder than ever, and demands excellence from his crew, who do their best to match his intensity.

All 10 episodes of season 3 of The Bear, which also stars Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Matty Matheson, Oliver Platt, and Molly Gordon, premiere on FX on Hulu on June 27.

What Does ‘BBL Drizzy’ Mean? The Diss Inspired By Metro Boomin, Explained

What exactly does “BBL Drizzy” mean, and why is this song everywhere?

“BBL Drizzy” is the name of an instrumental beat created by St. Louis producer, Metro Boomin, as a response to Drake exhorting the beatmaker to “shut up and make some drums” on his Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Push Ups.”

That’s exactly what Metro did, crafting a beat from an interpolation of an AI-generated song. But you knew all that; what you really want to know is WHY. So, strap in, folks. We’re going for a RIDE.

First of all, we have to explain: What, or who, is “Drizzy?” I’m starting here because it’s the easiest part to explain. Drizzy is a nickname for Drake. If you don’t know who Drake is… I mean, come on. You know who Drake is.

Secondly, we have to contend with just what the heck “BBL” means. I’m sorry to be the one to inform you, but “BBL” stands for “Brazilian Butt Lift,” a cosmetic surgical procedure also known as lipoinjection or autologous fat transfer (fun fact, it was actually invented by a Venezuelan guy! Those dang Americans and their poor geography skills!). Basically, the surgeon sucks the fat from somewhere else on the body, e.g., the stomach, and injects it into the buttocks. It’s a popular procedure among so-called “IG baddies,” who would be “video vixens” in millennial-speak.

Okay, so, we now know what a BBL is, and who Drizzy is, but why “BBL Drizzy?” Well, because of long-circulating, unconfirmed rumors that Drake got liposuction done to give himself an enviable six-pack of abs. The reason that surgery is being turned into a completely different one is because, well, it’s funnier that way, and the whole point of the song is to make fun of Drake.

The original song was prompted by a comedian named King Willonius, who was inspired by a Rick Ross tweet in which the Miami rapper accused Drake of getting a BBL done. Udio, the app used to make the song, produced a vintage-sounding song that Metro then interpolated to make a beat, which he then offered up on social media for anyone to use for any purpose, which pretty much ensured its spread.

Meanwhile, Drake, in an effort to take back control of the narrative, has co-opted it by attaching it to the end of Sexyy Red’s Tay Keith-produced new single, “U My Everything.” You can see the thinking behind it; he’s proved adept at flipping the internet’s jokes in the past, but this time, he may be in over his head.

Women are trying out Free People’s new ‘micro shorts’ and the results are something to behold

Summer is just around the corner, that means it’s time to break out those razors and put on some shorts. That means retailers are starting to advertise their their summer collections to prime people for the newest trends. But there are some trends that may need to be retired before they catch on if you take the reviews of women online.

Free People, a specialty lifestyle brand for bohemian styled fashion, have released a new style of shorts. The internet seems to be slightly confused on if the material they received from the retail brand is supposed to be shorts or something else entirely. They’re supposedly shorts, but they’re “micro shorts,” which are similar to shorts you’d see in the wild.

They have two leg holes, a hole for your body and less material than pants. Checks off all the requirements for a pair of shorts…except, they appear to be about the length of underwear. That’s not an exaggeration and to prove that point a couple of women bought some to try on so you don’t have to. The videos are not only honest but hilarious.

In one video Nicole Walters, a New York Times best selling author and mom to three girls decided to order the shorts to see how they looked on someone with, “thigh meat.” She wears a size 12 and often jokes about being a curvier on the bottom. When she pulled the shorts out, it looked as if she was going to have to perform a magic trick to get them on. They looked to be the size a small child would wear, but they seemed to have gone on easily even though they looked extremely uncomfortable. She looked uncomfortable. The viewers likely looked uncomfortable.

“Oh wow. They’re in there and by in there I mean everywhere. There’s a lot of thigh meat happening right now in the, this region,” Walters says as she gestures at her upper thighs. “There’s some thigh meat, um…uh…I feel like they’re definitely in some places that I didn’t know I had.”

Walter’s review of the shorts has people in stitches as she jokes about her Christianity falling out of the shorts.

“It’s the Barbie walk for me lol!!! Thank you for your service,” one person says.

“The way you warn us that you’re going to turn around almost made me scream with laughter,” someone writes.

“I’m just going to go ahead and dial 911 for help bc looks like you may need the jaws of life to come out them shorts…lol!! Your commentary had me dying laughing..lol,” another commenter jokes.

In another Free People “micro shorts” try on video, Nicole Story Dent braved the itty bitty shorts to show her audience the summer trend they can look forward to seeing. The first pair of shorts has multiple flaps that appear to be large pockets which inspires Dent to pretend to fly in them before the discomfort sinks in.

“It’s kinda giving waitress…if they ever want to make a Waffle House-Hooters hybrid, we have their uniform, she says. “We have been asking for more pockets so they delivered. Speaking of delivered, you could deliver a baby without having to take these shorts off.”

Dent guesses that the shorts would be more like “jundies” or “janties” than jorts, the shorthand term for jean shorts. Commenters couldn’t stop laughing at her description of the shorts while others provided her with words of wisdom.

“Do NOT drop it low in these jundies, that kind of contact with the club floor is NOT hygienic,” someone writes.

“‘There is nothing vegan about these. There is absolutely a cat being harmed!’ I’m cackling! You really should win something from Free People for this! @freepeople we found your next model,” another person jokes.

“This is the kind of content the internet was made for, it’s just so good. However my thighs started getting chafed just watching this,” someone laughs.

Surely these shorts were made for someone and they will look fabulous on whoever that person may be. But right now, there are a lot of confused, thoroughly tickled ladies on the internet who know they are not the target audience. If you’re brave enough to give these micro shorts a try, go ahead and stock up on some baby powder for all the chaffing.

‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1’: Everything To Know About Kevin Costner’s Post-‘Yellowstone’ Western Epic (Update For May 2024)

horizon costner
warner bros.

Kevin Costner is a Hollywood mainstay, but it’s fair to say that the directorial side of his career has ebbed and flowed. For every Open Range and Dances With Wolves, there’s a Waterworld or The Postman, but Costner persists. He’s determined to bring the world his Horizon: An American Saga in four parts, for which two films are already finished and on the theatrical schedule. The final pair’s survival will depend upon how the first half fares with audiences, but Costner is in it to win it, even if that meant saying goodbye to John Dutton on Yellowstone in the midst of the Taylor Sheridan force of nature’s final season.

Much of the current Costner chatter revolves around him setting his record straight on what, exactly, went wrong with the timing of his rebooted movie career and scheduling for his Taylor Sheridan show’s final episodes. Yet the Field of Dreams star knows his current and most enduring audience, and he asked them to expect a different kind of Western experience than is usually found onscreen because Horizon does not revolve around a previously established settlement. And it’s time to get down to cowboy business with what fans will see in Chapter 1 arriving soon.

Plot

Costner previously let Variety know that his four-part saga will allow the audience to “in a sense, feel themselves in this movie.” That statement sits alongside the fact that Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 takes place in the 1860s during the U.S. Civil War from the viewpoint of settlers in the American West. Costner believed so strongly in this project that he’s going full James Cameron here.

That is to say, Horizon was preannounced as several films without waiting for a studio greenlight after a traditional box-office run. Costner even decided to make that leap because (as he told Hollywood Reporter) “When no one wanted to make the first one, I got the bright idea to make four.” That’s a difficult goal to finance in the 2020s from any angle, but perhaps even more so for Costner, who has had his share of big-budget directorial busts. Still, he believes in this project enough to have poured many millions of his own money into the endeavor and even sold his ranch to do so. Heck, Costner declared that he would sell even more homes if necessary, and he’s even hitting the early days of filming Chapter 3 before the first film arrives.

Costner’s Yellowstone audience should be fairly sticky for these movies, and he did pull off a standing ovation that ran (accounts do differ on length) anywhere from 7-10 minutes, during which those eyes did not remain dry:

That ovation (and his obvious gratitude) hopefully helped him raise funding in Cannes, and perhaps those unsubtle negative reviews, including from Ryan Lattanzio of Indiewire, who described the film as though Costner was “trying to out-Taylor Sheridan Taylor Sheridan.”

However, Warner Bros. had enough faith to bet big on releasing two Horizon films within months of each other. Here’s the Chapter 1 synopsis:

In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, “Horizon: An American Saga” explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

Cast

Costner, of course, stars in the movie. He has also pulled together a vast ensemble cast befitting a tale of the frontier. Those actors include Sienna Miller, Tom Payne, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Jamie Campbell Bower, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Owen Crow Shoe, Angus Macfadyen, Tatanka Means, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Amos Jason Charging Cloud, Bodhi Okuma Linton, Giovanni Ribisi, Gregory Cruz, James Russo, nd Ella Hunt.

Release Date

Horizon: An American Saga will arrive with Chapter 1 in theaters on June 28. The already completed Chapter 2 will follow on August 16.

The Best ‘Inside The NBA’ Moments Of The 2024 NBA Playoffs So Far

charles barkley shaq

The future of the best sports show on television is very much in doubt, as Warner Bros. Discovery’s bungling of the NBA rights negotiations has left them on the outside looking in as of now. The expectation is that the league will roll with ESPN, NBC, and Amazon as its national broadcast partners, although WBD claims it has match rights that it may or may not use.

That means Inside the NBA is likely in its penultimate season, with one more year on Turner’s contract with the league in 2024-25. After that, no one yet knows what the future holds for Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley in terms of their NBA coverage.

As such, we need to appreciate and enjoy the magic that is TNT’s studio coverage, because while other networks will look to replicate it, there is just never going to be another show exactly like it. What makes it all the more frustrating is that the show has been on fire this postseason, as the guys on the desk and the crew behind the senes seem to be in top form as they wind down the final week or two of their season.

With just 3-6 shows left (depending on how the Western Conference Finals go), we wanted to take a look back at Inside‘s finest moments of the 2024 Playoffs, starting with one that belongs in the Hall of Fame.

“Where they goin’, Chuck?”…”Galveston”

Charles Barkley refusing to give the Pelicans the “1-2-3, Cancun” treatment after Game 3 of their first round series against the Thunder, and instead telling them to drive to Galveston, Texas and “that dirty ass water” became an immediate top-5 Inside the NBA moment. Shaq threw up the lob with “Where they goin’, Chuck?” and Barkley windmilled it home with one of his best all-time rants.

I can’t tell you how many times I or one of my friends has, with no prompting, just said “Where they goin’, Chuck?” and started this exact line of dialogue. The sheer disgust in Chuck’s voice, both about the Pelicans and the city of Galveston, really makes this sing, and he damn near kills Shaq every time he brings up the “dirty ass water.” Credit to Vince Carter for stepping into Kenny’s seat and not missing a beat to prod Chuck along a little further while Shaq is in hysterics, eliciting the “we’re not getting them plane tickets to the beach” from Barkley.

The next night Chuck had to issue an apology to Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles — a Galveston native — but couldn’t help but double-down further taking shots at Galveston.

Anthony Edwards Tells Charles Barkley To ‘Bring Ya Ass’ To Minnesota

Postgame player interviews with the guys on set have become part of Inside after the late game, and they often get the player of the game to loosen up and have some good fun — for example, any time they get Nikola Jokic on, the guys (namely Shaq) are able to get the famously mild-mannered MVP to perk up a bit. This happened with a different star after Game 7 of the Timberwolves-Nuggets series, when Anthony Edwards delivered a line that became a rallying cry for the entire state of Minnesota. After Charles Barkley said he hadn’t been up to Minnesota in a long time but TNT now would be making the trip for the Western Conference Finals, Anthony Edwards simply said “Bring Ya Ass!”

Everyone from fans to the governor latched onto that phrase — look at the first letter of every line here as proof of how big of a thing this became — and Chuck even wore “Bring Ya Ass” merch to Game 1.

Kenny Smith Gets A Chair Lift To The Board

Kenny Smith’s run to the video board at halftime has been a bit of a disaster for The Jet this postseason. He proudly proclaimed on night one he wouldn’t lose a race to the board all season, and promptly lost on back-to-back nights to both Shaq and Chuck. From there, he battled the stairs with some stumbles and one outright fall, which had the other three losing their mind.

A couple weeks later, TNT paid all of that off with an incredible bit by delivering on Barkley’s promise to get Kenny a chair lift for the stairs like old folks use.

This also led to another funny (and, in a way, sad) moment when they got rid of it and Barkley joked “times are tough around here,” citing WBD’s issues in rights negotiations.

Barkley’s Victory Lap On ESPN ‘Fools’ For Hyping The Lakers And Warriors

All season, Charles was on a crusade against ESPN constantly talking about the Lakers and Warriors like they were contenders, and after the two teams got bounced from the Play-In and first round of the Playoffs, Barkley cut a promo on the “fools” on the other network.

Draymond Chokes A Fish On Gone Fishin’

The Warriors didn’t make the Playoffs proper, but after their ouster from the Play-In they got sent “Gone Fishin’” and even though Green is a part-time member of the team, he was not spared by the production crew. They took the photo of Green choking out Rudy Gobert from the start of the season and swapped a fish in place of the big Frenchman to the delight of the fellas.

BBL Chuck

After Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, as the guys wrapped up their night of coverage from inside the Target Center, things got real loose right before signing off. The production crew had some fun with the “Bring Ya Ass” stuff, and posted some photoshops of Chuck with various asses, from a donkey to a him in a thong, which prompted Draymond Green to drop a “BBL Chuck” line that had Shaq levitating.

Charles Barkley Reacting To Jalen Williams’ Outfits

The TNT crew often shows guys entering the arena, especially when they are wearing a wild tunnel look, because it always gets a response from Chuck. In the first round, Thunder wing Jalen Williams wore a few things that caused Chuck to blurt out “What the hell?!” as OKC rolled to a sweep of the Pelicans.

Travis Scott Has Settled The Final Astroworld Festival Wrongful Death Lawsuit With The Youngest Victim’s Family

travis scott

The last of the wrongful death lawsuits against Travis Scott from the 2021 Astroworld Festival disaster has been settled out of court. The suit was filed by the family of Ezra Blount, who was just nine years old; they were the last holdouts after nine other lawsuits were settled two weeks ago. The Blount family had been one of the most vocal in alleging Scott’s culpability for the tragedy, which caused hundreds of injuries in addition to the 10 deaths (along with Live Nation, Apple, Front Gate Ticketing Solutions, and other subcontractors).

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Blounts’ lawyer, Scott West, said, “The family is happy to resolve its claim against all defendants following the death of their son, Ezra. They look forward to continuing the process of healing and never forgetting.”

Prior to this, pretrial hearings saw Drake dismissed from the case, and Travis’ request to also be dismissed denied.

However, the hundreds of injury cases, which were combined into a single case under a Texas statute allowing for ease of litigation of big cases like this, will still proceed. That trial is set to begin in October, with Travis Scott, Live Nation, and Apple all still named as defendants.

J. Cole’s Feature On Cash Cobain’s New Single ‘Grippy’ Is A Much-Needed Change Of Pace

Cash Cobain‘s rise continues with his latest big-name collaboration. After collaborations with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Don Toliver, and Ice Spice, the slizzy movement creator has his biggest look yet thanks to J. Cole, who appears on “Grippy,” Cobain’s newest single. The song is definitely closer Cobain’s wheelhouse than Cole’s, yet the veteran rapper easily adapts to the new style. Cole has proven his versatility throughout his career as a guest verse assassin, and in this case, he is just as solid as ever.

Cole’s appearance on the younger rapper’s latest is a case of fortuitous timing for him, as well. In Uproxx’s review of his new mixtape, Might Delete Later, I wrote that his formula could use an update; meanwhile, after initially jumping into the conflict between Kendrick Lamar and Drake with “7 Minute Drill,” which wasn’t received all that warmly by most of the hip-hop establishment, he then deleted the track from streamers, which drew another wave of criticism. However, withdrawing from the “beef” may have been for the best for him. When fans last heard from the formerly well-respected rapper, he was just hanging out on the beach with fans, avoiding conflict, and living his best life.

You can listen to “Grippy” above.
