Vince Staples’ Wish Came True As Netflix Renews ‘The Vince Staples Show’ For A Second Season

After landing a recurring role in Abbott Elementary, Vince Staples kept his acting momentum going with Netflix’s The Vince Staples Show. The series was well-received, with a response that has now prompted Netflix to give the program a second season, it was officially confirmed yesterday (May 30).

Staples said in a statement (as Variety reports), “The ‘Vince Staples Show’ is back! The people have spoken and the most riveting, captivating, and polarizing show on Netflix is returning for season 2. Get ready for hijinks that only a mother can love. Thank you, Netflix!”

Netflix and Staples also teased/confirmed the news on social media with straightforward posts.

It would appear that Staples calling his fans to action has worked: In February, in response to a fan asking for more episodes, Staples tweeted, “Netflix didn’t buy anymore episodes so make sure you hit that double thumbs up. Peer pressure works and I’m tryna re up.”

In an Uproxx interview from that month, Staples said, “Hopefully, it performs well and we are able to keep it going. That’s kind of how we got situated over here with Netflix, and I think it came out good. I feel like no matter how it ends up, we gave a round story and gave it some closure, some context. So I think we’ll be good either way.”

Did Cardi B Diss BIA On GloRilla And Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Wanna Be’ Remix?

The much-anticipated Cardi B-featuring remix of “Wanna Be” is here, and on the track, she’s out for blood.

Did Cardi B Diss BIA On GloRilla And Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wanna Be” Remix?

Towards the end of Cardi’s song-opening verse, she raps, “Guess I’m a teacher since you wanna sub me / She did what? Had no idea / Thought she was on the shelf, Ikea / Hope she talk like that when I see her / B*tch, please, don’t nobody wanna be ya.”

The beef between Cardi and BIA seemingly started earlier this year, after Cardi released “Like What (Freestyle).” The song samples Missy Elliott’s 1999 single “She’s A B*tch,” as does BIA’s 2023 song “Fallback.” Some online pointed out the similarity and BIA subtly stoked the flames by acknowledging it. Shortly after, Cardi tweeted, “B*tches make a fool of themselves every single time [crying laughing emoji].. ima show ya something when I release this song tho.”

As for what Cardi’s saying on the “Wanna Be” remix, the line about being “on the shelf” is seemingly a dig at BIA’s relative lack of chart success despite having been active as a rapper for over a decade, with three singles hitting the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Also, when Cardi says “don’t nobody wanna be ya,” it would appear that “be ya” is meant to be a reference to BIA.

Jimmy Kimmel Celebrated Trump’s Historic Guilty Verdict With Jokes About Sleep Farts, Melania, And Spanking

Donald Trump became the first former American president to be convicted of felony crimes on Thursday as a New York jury found him guilty of all 34 charges of falsifying business records to cover up a payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. Congrats, Don! Most of the late-night hosts are off this week, so they weren’t able to comment on the verdict, with one exception: Jimmy Kimmel.

“Seven weeks of sleep farting, all down the drain, all for nothing,” he said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “You do have to hand it to him, no president has ever been convicted more than Donald Trump. How long before he starts bragging about this? Maybe he isn’t Teflon, maybe he’s one of those sticky traps for rats. We don’t know. Maybe he’s a wet pocket full of gummy worms.”

Now the big question is: how will Trump be punished? His sentencing date is July 11, “which happens to be the day Aaron Burr shot Alexander Hamilton and it’s the day El Chapo escaped from prison, but this is not El Chapo. This Pork Chapo we’re talking about,” Kimmel joked. Maybe he’ll get house arrest? “Oh man, for Melania, that is a double whammy with cheese is what that is,” he said. But Kimmel’s “vote” for sentencing is making Trump pick up trash: “That is a beautiful image. Imagine Trump with a Hefty bag, picking up ketchup packets with one of those grabber pole things. A big truck goes by, blows that cotton candy hair flap to the other side of his head.”

The only family member who was with Trump when the verdict was read was Eric, who tweeted, “May 30th, 2024 might be remembered as the day Donald J. Trump won the 2024 Presidential Election” against Joe Biden. Or, as Kimmel cracked, “it’ll be remembered as the day a jury in New York spanked your dad even harder than Stormy did with that Forbes magazine.”

You can watch the monologue above.

What Does Eminem Say About Megan Thee Stallion On His New Song ‘Houdini?’

The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) is on the way, and if Eminem’s forthcoming album truly does mark the end of Slim, he’s not going out quietly. Today (May 31), Eminem dropped the new single “Houdini,” and on it, he doesn’t obscure the fact that in one bar, he’s talking about Megan Thee Stallion.

What Does Eminem Say About Megan Thee Stallion On “Houdini”

At the end of the song’s first verse, Eminem raps, “If I was to ask for Megan Thee / Stallion if she would collab with me / Would I really have a shot at a feat?” The line is of course a reference to Tory Lanez shooting Meg.

Notably, “Houdini” arrives months after Megan’s “Hiss,” which includes what could be interpreted as an indirect reference to Em. On the song, Meg raps, “I feel like Mariah Carey, got these n****s so obsessed.” The lyric refers to Carey’s 2009 song “Obsessed,” on which Carey sings about, well, somebody being obsessed about her. That song was released shortly after Eminem’s Carey-referencing track “Bagpipes From Baghdad.”

Megan, meanwhile, has her own album coming out soon, and she said of it, “We don’t just stop at the snake. This is just what everybody sees right now. Renewal, rebirth: that is the whole concept of this [album]. We started with the snake because, first of all, I love snakes, but I feel like snakes are so misunderstood, especially in western culture. Snakes represent rebirth, spirituality. I’m not really a person that’s like, ‘Oh my God, sunshine,’ and just super bubbly, happy. I like darker things. I like things that are a little scary. I like things that are unique. I picked the snake because… it’s kind of like an antihero.”

Indiecast On Band T-Shirts And The ‘I Saw The TV Glow’ Soundtrack

Alex G Press Image 2024
Chris Maggio

This week’s episode begins with Steven talking about his visit to Brooklyn as part of the promotional tour for his new book, There Was Nothing You Could Do: Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The U.S.A.” And The End Of The Heartland. They also commence a quick Sportscast to talk about the state of jinxes and reverse-jinxes concerning the Minnesota Timberwolves.

From there, they talk about how the Black Keys announced a change in tour plans from playing arenas to more “intimate” venues in light of weak ticket sales. Is this a sign of bigger changes in the live concert business? They also discuss a recent article about the so-called “end of merch” and their respective feelings about band t-shirts. (Ian is indifferent, Steven has passionate opinions.) Then they address the recent soundtrack to the 2024 cult film I Saw The TV Glow, and how the album comments on the glory days of movie soundtracks from the 1990s.

In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks up the latest release from shoegaze band Draag while Steven stumps for a box set from The Waterboys documenting the making of an ’80s alternative classic.

Eminem Comes For Megan Thee Stallion, Paul Rosenberg, And His Own Kids On His New Song ‘Houdini’

Guess who’s back, back again? Shady’s back, quite possibly for the last time. Over the past few weeks, Eminem has been teasing a graceful exit. Earlier this month, he announced his 12th studio album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), teasing a potential bow-out from music. He continued to fuel rumors of his impending retirement in a teaser for his new single, “Houdini,” in a clip in which he tells magician David Blaine he plans to make his career disappear. Tonight (May 31), Eminem kicked off the end of an era with “Houdini.”

On “Houdini,” Eminem takes a look at the current cultural landscape, offering his takes on recent events.

Some lines are just plain tasteless

“If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me / Would I really have a shot at a feat.”

Some are boomer-coded

“My transgender cat’s Siamese / Identifies as black, but acts Chinese”

And some are callbacks to the old Slim Shady, who would diss everyone, even members of his own crew

F*ck Dre, f*ck Jimmy, f*ck me, f*ck you F*ck my own kids, they’re brats

The song marks a return to the irreverent form with which Eminem first stepped onto the scene. But who’s asking for this in 2024? The accompanying video — which features cameos from Dr. Dre, Pete Davidson, and Shane Gillis — continues upon his “Without Me” video from 2002, with current Eminem and 2002 Slim Shady examining all that has changed in the past two decades.

As the age-old adage holds, old habits die hard.

You can watch the video for “Houdini” above (if you must).

GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, And Cardi B Join Hot Girl Forces On The ‘Wanna Be’ Remix

The hottest song of the summer just got even better. Last month, Memphis rapper GloRilla dropped her Ehhthang Ehhthang mixtape, which featured the Megan Thee Stallion collaboration, “Wanna Be.” Tonight (May 24) Glo and Meg have shared the remix to “Wanna Be,” which features a new verse from a fellow heavy hitter, Cardi B.

The three first teased the remix during the New York City stop of Meg and Glo’s Hot Girl Summer Tour, during which, Cardi made a surprise appearance. And of course, the three delivered.

Both Meg and Glo’s verses remain the same as their verses on the original version, but Cardi packs a punch with verse of her own.

On Cardi’s verse, she opens the song unleashing the heat, stacking up bars full of clever wordplay and warnings to the opps.

“These b*tches be boring, corny / Pop out, new bag with jewelry / Throwing ass all on my story / I make a photographer horny,” Cardi raps on her verse.

Granted, the original version of “Wanna Be” was already a hit, but Cardi joining in makes her the Blossom to Meg’s Bubbles and Glo’s Buttercup. The Powerpuff Girls of rap are running the game this summer.

Charles Barkley Made One Last Joke About The Future Of ‘Inside The NBA’ Before They Went Off The Air For The Summer

vlcsnap-2024-05-30-22h56m41s485~3
TNT

The Dallas Mavericks made the NBA Finals on Thursday night when the team won Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. From a basketball perspective, this means that Dallas will take on the Boston Celtics in a series that starts next week and has the potential to be a classic.

But for fans of Inside the NBA, this is almost certainly going to be the last time we see the fellas before the next NBA media rights deal is all sorted out. If you believe the current reporting, it sounds like Turner might end up on the outside looking in, which has drawn the ire of Charles Barkley. And as Ernie Johnson sent the show off the air for the final time this year, Barkley saw a chance to crack a joke about the whole situation.

“Cannot wait for next season,” Johnson said. “It’s gonna be a blast.”

While Johnson attempted to praise folks around the show, Barkley couldn’t resist the urge to say something.

“Hey,” Barkley said. “Did Ernie say blast or last? Did you say blast or last?”

Chuck thought this was an all-time great quip, presumably because it was. It wasn’t the only comment about the future of the show on the evening, as Luka Doncic joined the set after being named the Western Conference Finals MVP and expressed that “we gotta figure out something” to keep the show around.

Fortunately, Luka learned that Inside will still be around next year. Whether it’s a blast or if it’s the last time we will see them, however, remains to be seen.

Charli XCX, Robyn, And Yung Lean Are Riding Their Own Wavelength On Their ‘360’ Remix

Charli XCX is always five steps ahead of the game. But she just took her viral hit “360” to the next level. With assistance from Yung Lean and dance music legend Robyn, Charli just dropped the ultimate club remix.

Both Charli and Lean are known for their futuristic sounds, and while the two acts may not fit within the mainstream landscape, they don’t just make music all willy-nilly. Their style is unique, and Lean reminds us that it can’t be replicated.

“Know you wanna dream like Lean / Wanna be like Lean / But it’s not as easy as it seems
Who do I trust? Me / We put this sh*t together, so carelessly,” raps Lean on his verse.

Charli has been delivering dance floor bangers for over a decade, but Robyn pops in to remind us who the electropop dance queen is. While Robyn is known to take long breaks between releasing albums, she lets us know that she’s not going anywhere anytime soon. ”

“I’m the realest ever, yeah / That’s what I’ve been told / Killin’ this sh*t since 1994 / Got everybody in the club dancing on their own,” Robyn sings on her verse.

You can listen to the “360” remix above.
