When Will ‘The Garfield Movie’ Be On Streaming?

garfield GRID
sony

Garfuriosa is almost upon us.

This weekend sees the release of both George Miller’s latest “masterpiece” Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and The Garfield Movie. Based on the second best comic strip cat, the animated film is expected to help a sluggish start to summer blockbuster season, but when will the flick debut on streaming?

The Garfield Movie is a Sony film, which means it will stream on Netflix as part of an exclusivity deal. If another Sony title is any indication, the Netflix premiere date will be approximately four months after the theatrical debut. So, expect The Garfield Movie to start streaming around September.

Parents, prepare yourselves now.

Here’s the plot synopsis:

Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt), the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.

The Garfield Movie, which also features the voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Snoop Dogg, is out in theaters on May 24.

When Does ‘Industry’ Return For Season 3?

Industry Season 3 Kit Harington
HBO

Plenty of discussion has compared HBO’s Industry to a Gen-Z version of Succession, and that’s honestly fine because (even though that’s only scratching the surface) we wouldn’t discourage anybody from being curious enough about that analogy to check out this lower-key hit on HBO. The even more excellent news is that if you love binging, two complete seasons of Industry already exist for the taking, and before summer’s end, weekly editions of the third installment will launch on HBO and stream on Max.

When Does ‘Industry’ Return For Season 3?

Sunday, August 11 at 10:00pm EST will be the magic time. That’s when we will see the sex and drugs begin to flow again for these Pierpoint bankers as they continue to navigate their cutthroat world while juggling the messiest personal lives. Rising in the ranks and falling are both nearly inevitable practices for this gathering of young-ish financiers, but that’s part of the appeal of this series. Creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay have lined up eight new episodes for this season, and here’s the synopsis:

In season three, as Pierpoint looks to the future and takes a big bet on ethical investing, Yasmin (Marisa Abela), Robert (Harry Lawtey), and Eric (Ken Leung) find themselves front and center in the splashy IPO of Lumi, a green tech energy company led by Henry Muck (Kit Harington), in a story that runs all the way to the very top of finance, media, and government. Since leaving Pierpoint, Harper (Myha’la) is eager to get back into the addictive thrill of finance and finds an unlikely partner in FutureDawn portfolio manager Petra Koenig (Sarah Goldberg).

In addition to the returning cast members — Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Conor MacNeill, Sagar Radia, Indy Lewis, Adam Levy, Sarah Parish, Harry Lawtey, Ken Leung, Trevor White, and more — some new faces are onboard. Those include Kit Harington (as Henry Muck, shown above, who hopefully knows more than Jon Snow on Game of Thrones) and Sarah Goldberg (who hopefully isn’t as stressed out as her Barry character while portraying Petra Koenig), along with Roger Barclay, Fiona Button, Miriam Petite, and Adam Cavill.

Get ready for the bell to ring, but in the most sexy way possible, when Industry comes back to HBO, and here are some more first-look images.

Snoop Dogg Is Auctioning Off A Truly Wild Variety Of Memorabilia, From TV Scripts To Death Row Chains

Snoop Dogg is auctioning photos, PlayStations, autographed riders, autographed jackets and jerseys, and more. According to Variety, the Long Beach native has teamed up with memorabilia-authentication and auction company The Realest to host the auction, from today until June 2.

Producer and radio host Scott “DJ Skee” Keeney, the founder of The Realest, told Variety, “The items he is putting up are iconic. Everything from lyrics, awards — like ‘Pimp of the Year’! — unreleased tapes, outfits, sample toys, photos, scripts, concert riders, even a Snoop-authenticated smoked blunt in a crazy display case and ashtray.”

Other notable items being offered include autographed scripts from The Boondocks TV show, master recording tapes (sans the publishing rights they may represent), and even a Death Row Records chain in a custom box autographed by Snoop. As the Doggfather put it in a statement, “This is sh*t that we have, but we didn’t know it was worth something.”

As Variety notes, auctions involving hip-hop memorabilia are often quite profitable — just last year, a mic thrown by Cardi B was auctioned for charity, while the year before that, a rap book of Drake’s went up for sale — but rappers themselves are rarely the beneficiaries of their stuff being sold. Speaking of Drake, he bought one of Tupac’s rings last year, and his purchase of Pharrell’s chain was a point of contention in his battle with Kendrick Lamar.

DJ Skee sees his platform as a potential revenue stream for artists, saying, “Items like setlists, stage equipment, outfits, signage, and more are things that fans desire but can’t find. It helps to build a new revenue stream for artists.”

When Will The 2025 Grammy Nominations Be Announced?

Grammy Awards Trophy Grammys Grammophone

Given everything that has happened in the music world lately, it might feel like the 2024 Grammys were forever ago. In reality, they were only just in February, if you can believe that. Still, it’s already time to start looking forward to the 2025 Grammys.

As for who and what will be considered for next year’s awards, here’s what to know about when we’ll have that information.

When Will The 2025 Grammy Nominations Be Announced?

Today (May 21), the Recording Academy shared a list of key dates for the 2025 awards. One is the window during which products need to be released in order to be eligible for award consideration, and that runs from September 16, 2023 to August 30, 2024. Then the first round of voting stretches from October 4 to October 15. After that, the nominations will be announced on November 8.

Following that is the final round of voting (from December 12, 2024 to January 3, 2025) and the 67th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony on February 2, 2025. The show will be broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, via CBS and Paramount+.

Meanwhile, the Grammys were recently on Dua Lipa’s mind: In May, she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about how backlash to her winning Best New Artist motivated her, saying, “‘She’s got no stage presence. She can’t do this. She’s not well equipped. She won’t be here next year though.’ There was a lot of that and that fueled me in a way. I try not use criticism as this revenge thing, but it does push you in a way.”

CNN Had Cam’ron Talk About Diddy, And The Result Was A Predictable, Hilarious Mess

There’s very little funny about the Sean “Diddy” Combs situation lately, but thanks to the cluelessness of CNN’s interview booker, hip-hop fans are having a good chuckle anyway.

Cam’ron, who once gave the world the “You mad” meme after Bill O’Reilly foolishly tried to debate him, delivered another doozy of an interview with Abby Phillips. The result was (predictably) a hilarious mess.

The notoriously elusive Harlem rapper stubbornly refused to give many straight answers about Diddy (“The apology ain’t for me to decide, it’s Cassie… he ain’t do nothin’ to me”), chugged a pre-sex energy drink (“Sorry, I’m going to get some cheeks after this”), and pointed out that his podcast co-host Mase had more experience dealing with Diddy — whom Cam insisted on continuing to call “Puff,” despite Combs changing his nicknames three times since then.

The coup de grâce was Cam plugging the It Is What It Is podcast right before questioning “Who the talent agent for this joint? You think I be sitting around watching what Diddy do? … Who booked me for this joint?”

Even better, on today’s episode of It Is What It Is, Cam and Mase addressed the disastrous interview, with Cam complaining that the interview wasn’t about their podcast or philanthropy, but Diddy. “You call me on CNN for the bullsh*t, I’m a give you the bullsh*t,” he proclaimed, while crowing about the free promo.

And you know what? The man makes a pretty good point. The media ignores hip-hop when rappers do positive things, but loves to highlight crimes, shootings, and controversy. Cam’s interview is a good reminder that there are two sides to the coin.

All The Best New Pop Music From This Week

Billie_Eilish_Zayn_Omar_Apollo(1024x450)

Billie Eilish dropped Hit Me Hard And Soft, and each of the album’s ten songs hits like an astral grand slam. In fact, visceral songs were a theme this week, from Zayn’s Room Under The Stairs tracklist to Omar Apollo’s “Dispose Of Me.”

Check out those and more in Uproxx’s Best New Pop Music roundup below.

Billie Eilish — “LUNCH”

Hit Me Hard And Soft, Billie Eilish’s newly released third studio album, elevates the various elements of Eilish’s well-established artistic genius — her controlled, pristine vocals delivering brutally honest lyrics complemented by Finneas’ atmospheric production. Most of the album offers fresh perspective on familiar Eilish subject matter, such as navigating the negative byproducts (intrusiveness, heightened scrutiny, loneliness) of her intense fame or complicated romantic pursuits, but “LUNCH” marks the first time Eilish has explicitly sung about a woman. And, as evidenced by her self-directed video, she appears to feel freer than ever doing so.

Zayn — “Stardust”

Zayn teamed up with Nashville-based producer Dave Cobb for his newly released fourth solo studio album, Room Under The Stairs, resulting in Zayn’s raspy voice soaring atop live instrumentation and perhaps the most textured sonic palette of his career. “Stardust” epitomizes Zayn’s successful foray into country, pop-adjacent territory, and the song’s video vividly captures him in his natural habitat.

Saweetie — “Nani”

“We gon’ fkkk up the summer,” Saweetie declared in an Instagram post teasing “Nani” last week, and her confidence is well-founded after listening to the bubbly, confident single. The Chandler Lass-directed video captures Saweetie commanding a pool party and rapping about her never-ending escapades. “Got that nani, nani, nani,” she sings in the chorus. “How she walk through swingin’ that body / Yellin’, ‘Who gon’ stop me?’” No one is stopping you, Saweetie. Drop the album!

Hailey Knox — “Double Tragedy”

I caught up with Hailey Knox in March, around her release of “11th Hour.” Since then, Knox dropped “What Do You Need.” Both singles revealed Knox as a keen songwriter, dynamic producer, and show-stopping vocalist. Add “Double Tragedy” to the mounting evidence pile. The single finds Knox ruthlessly calling out someone for taking her for granted, while calling out herself for continuing to subject herself to such treatment (“I know it’s bad for me / Like it when you mad at me / It’s a double tragedy / Keep comin’ back to ya”).

Omar Apollo — “Dispose Of Me”

Last week, Omar Apollo announced the impending release of his God Said No album on June 28, and he dropped “Dispose Of Me” the following day. “Y’all said you were ready to cry so here you go,” Apollo wrote about the song. I will neither confirm nor deny whether tears fell while watching Apollo, surrounded by swelling live instrumentation, flawlessly sing, “It don’t matter if it’s twenty-five years, twenty-five months / It don’t matter if it’s twenty-five days, it was real love / We got too much history / So don’t just dispose of me.” But I can confirm the following: Apollo’s artistry is indispensable, “Spite” and “Dispose Of Me” forecast that we’re in for an emotionally seismic album, and I hope whoever hurt Apollo has the day they deserve.

Bebe Rexha — “Chase It (Mmm Da Da Da)”

Last summer, Bebe Rexha suffered a brutal black eye after a coward, who was subsequently charged with assault and harassment, threw his phone at her while she was performing in New York City. Then, she confirmed to another crowd at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London that she’d just gone through a tumultuous breakup. “Chase It (Mmm Da Da Da),” Rexha’s latest single, finds the four-time Grammy nominee manifesting the summer she deserves. Rexha debuted the charged dance-pop bop during what Uproxx deemed as one of the best performances from Coachella 2024, and every club this side of Mars should be racing to add it to the summer playlist.

Joshua Bassett — “The Golden Years”

The Golden Years” is Joshua Bassett’s first release since last September. More importantly, it serves as the lead single and title track for Bassett’s debut album, due out on July 26. “The Golden Years” is as wistful as could be. Bassett captures the overwhelming (“Funny, I’d rather be fighting with you / Than alone in the city we knew”) and often inevitably fleeting nature (“We were young till we weren’t it was fun till it hurt / Now I’m terrified that I’ll never find love like yours”) of young love.

Lyn Lapid & Mxmtoon — “Back From The Dead”

Lyn Lapid wisely recruited Mxmtoon for “Back From The Dead,” and they make for a much better pair than whatever exes they’re gleefully leaving behind. The song is delightfully oxymoronic, with an airy soundscape ventilating empowered (“Your sweet words might’ve worked once, but news flash / No longer hold authority over me”) and vindictive (“Could’ve sworn that I was seeing a ghost / Almost nothing left of you to grieve”) lyrics.

The Band Camino — “Someone Who’s Trying”

The Band Camino’s three-song EP Bruises is efficiently evocative. “Someone Who’s Trying” encourages plunging into living imperfectly (“If I don’t lose, how can I learn? / Can’t heal unless your heart hurts”) because attempting to get through life unscathed is a fallacy (“I’m sorry I / Let you down this time / Hope you still see me / As someone who’s trying”). The song should be a cathartic, communally belted moment in The Band Camino’s setlist during their headlining The Taking Shape Tour across the U.S. this summer.

Daydreamers — “Beach House”

If you want to get a head start on nostalgia for all of the summer memories you’re yet to make, listen to Daydreamers’ breezy “Beach House.” Riley, lead singer of the London-based alt-pop four-piece, described the song as capturing “the feeling of looking back on a memory of summer romance through rose-tinted glasses. You want to live in the moment that you’ve idealized in your head, but you know it’ll never last forever.” Contrastingly, Daydreamers display the potential to resonate indefinitely.

The Rock Is Unrecognizable (But Still Jacked) In The First Look At His A24 Movie With Emily Blunt

the rock
Getty Image

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hasn’t done any “serious” acting since… Pain and Gain maybe? He hasn’t needed to: franchise-building blockbusters like Fast Five and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle made him one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, if not the biggest, and he didn’t feel the urge to try more challenging fare. But following the underwhelming box office performance of Black Adam, The Rock is ready to “make films that matter,” beginning with The Smashing Machine.

Directed by Benny Safdie, the A24 film finds The Rock playing real-life mixed martial artist Mark Kerr, who struggled with substance abuse before retiring from the sport. “Dwayne and Benny are singular talents, and their shared vision for Mark’s inspiring story is electrifying. We are deeply honored to have their trust as collaborators in bringing this incredibly special project to life,” A24 executive Noah Sacco said when The Smashing Machine was announced.

On Tuesday, A24 released the first image from The Smashing Machine. It took me a few seconds before realizing, holy sh*t, that’s The Rock in the ring (and Emily Blunt!). The muscles probably should have been the giveaway.

Below, you’ll find reactions to The Rock’s unrecognizable look (it’s the hair)

In the same interview where he talked about making movies that “matter,” The Rock also expressed that he’s not done with blockbusters, “but there’s a time and a place for them. I’m at this point in my career where I want more. And I don’t mean I want more box office. I mean I want more humanity. And that is why Benny Safdie is the perfect, collaborative, hungry partner for me.”

The Smashing Machine does not have a release date yet.

Camila Cabello Breaks Down When And To Whom She Lost Her Virginity: ‘It Was Beautiful’

Camila Cabello The Standard Met Gala After Party 2024

Everybody remembers their first time, and Camila Cabello just reminisced about it on a new episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

Cabello explained how she met her first boyfriend, dating coach and author Matthew Hussey, on the set of Today when she was 20 years old, saying (as People notes), “I was outside where they have the TV with the scripts. I had actually listened to his podcast before. I listened to his podcast before as a fan because he had, like, a dating podcast.”

She then spoke about how that was her first relationship and how she had felt lonely at that time in her life. Shepard then asked if Cabello had “been having sex at all before 20” and she responded, “No. That was my first time having sex. First lovemaking was at 20, 21. […] It was literally lovemaking. It was beautiful.”

Cabello added, “He was a really great person. It was like the perfect first relationship. Really expanded my world because he wasn’t in my industry, too. It was like, ‘Oh my God. Have you ever seen Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown? And have you ever seen Studio Ghibli films?’ He just really expanded my references.”
