Trae Young And The Hawks Will Have ‘Real Conversations’ About His Future If He Doesn’t Feel Like They’re Constructing A Winner

The Atlanta Hawks did not expect to leave with the No. 1 overall pick when they arrived at Sunday’s NBA Draft Lottery, but after the ping pong balls bounced just right, they emerged with an awful lot more to think about as a franchise this summer.

Atlanta was already expected to be among the league’s most active teams in trade discussions this offseason, as it has become clear the Trae Young and Dejounte Murray backcourt pairing has run its course. With De’Andre Hunter a trade rumor staple as well, the Hawks were expected to shop around the league to figure out what direction they want to go in — with Jalen Johnson as the firmest cornerstone piece on the roster. Murray was shopped continuously going into last season and at the deadline, but the Hawks kept him on the team and he thrived with Young out with an injury down the stretch.

That brought Young’s future with the team into question, with rumblings beginning in the second half of the year that he might be available as well. With Atlanta landing the No. 1 overall pick, that only furthered those rumors, with Shams Charania noting on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back that Young would be in conversation with the Hawks over the coming weeks and, if he feels they’re not looking to build an immediate contender, he could ask for a change of scenery.

“If Trae Young doesn’t feel like the Hawks are constructing a winner, a team that really has a chance in the Eastern Conference. You see teams like New York, Indiana making runs to the conference finals, Trae Young surely feels like he and the Hawks should be in that position. They’re going to have real conversations if he believes they are not trying to construct a real winner around him. And that dialogue, those talks are going to happen this week at the Combine, next week, and the weeks to come before the NBA Draft. Clearly that pairing between Trae Young and Dejounte Murray has not worked. They’ve already looked into moving Dejounte Murray, they kept him at the trade deadline. Which guard do they end up looking down that path? I think that’s going to be the big question for the Hawks leading up to the Draft.”

All of this sets up for a fascinating offseason in Atlanta, as they certainly have the opportunity to hit the reset button now that they have the top overall pick in the Draft — even if it lacks clear star power at the top. While Young is only 25, he’s seen plenty of his contemporaries become cornerstones of perennial playoff contenders. He made one run to the conference finals but has had to try and emerge from the Play-In each of the last three years. If the Hawks think their best bet as a franchise is to reset their clock around Johnson and the No. 1 pick, it could be Young, not Murray, that gets shopped around as a very intriguing player on the trade market.

‘Family Guy’ Won’t Air The Same Night As ‘The Simpsons’ For The First Time In Nearly 20 Years

the simpsons family guy
fox

What do [takes a deep breath] The War at Home, American Dad, The Winner, King of the Hill, The Cleveland Show, Bob’s Burgers, Allen Gregory, Napoleon Dynamite, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life, Son of Zorn, Making History, Ghosted, Bless the Harts, Duncanville, and The Great North have in common? All of those shows, many of which have been long forgotten, aired in the 8:30 p.m. EST timeslot between The Simpsons at 8 p.m. and Family Guy at 9 p.m. (or in recent years, 9:30 p.m.).

Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin have been Sunday night fixtures on Fox for nearly 20 years, but that streak is about to end. The Simpsons isn’t going anywhere (it never will), but Family Guy has been shuffled to Wednesday night with a midseason debut scheduled for 2025.

For the first time since Family Guy was brought back from cancellation by Fox 19 years ago, Seth MacFarlane’s animated hit, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary, won’t be on the network’s fall schedule. It is one of eight new and returning scripted series held for midseason — including Animal Control, The Cleaning Lady, and Alert — which is as many as there are on Fox’s fall schedule. The network likely is plotting a major midseason rollout using its Super Bowl broadcast as a promotional platform.

Family Guy is still popular, especially on social media. So why the change?

“We talk a lot about looking at the schedule in a more modern way and rather than looking simply at the traditional time slots of shows, we look at our entire portfolio,” Fox CEO Rob Wade explained, according to Deadline. “We also think [about] Hulu and how it would work best for them. Scheduling has changed significantly over the years and we approach it in a different way now.”

People are still watching Family Guy on broadcast (although, like with every show, not as much as they used to), so the thinking from Fox appears to be using the show as a building block for another night of the week.

At least Family Guy can lampoon the new timeslot: “You think that’s bad? At least you didn’t get moved from Sunday to Wednesday [cut-away joke to Brian Griffin hitting on Jenna Ortega].”

21 Savage Refused To Take Sides In Drake And Metro Boomin’s Beef And Thinks They’ll ‘Figure It Out Eventually’

Poor 21 Savage. Caught in the middle of the beef between two of his closest collaborators, Drake and Metro Boomin, the rising Atlanta trap star expressed his hope for peace. During an Instagram Live session with fans while on his American Dream Tour, 21 shared his thoughts on the simmering tension between his two friends and his optimism for the future (no pun intended).

“Don’t keep coming on to my motherf*cking Live talking about no motherf*cking beef,” he told his fans. “Metro my brother and Drake my brother. Those n****s going to figure that sh*t out eventually.”

Fans first sensed that Drake and Metro might be on shaky terms late last year, after Metro voiced his frustrations with the reception of Drake and Savage’s collaborative album in comparison to his own on year-end lists. “Her Loss still keeps winning rap album of the year over [Heroes & Villains],” he wrote. “Proof that awards shows are just politics and not for me.”

Drake needled the producer a couple of times after that, but the tension broke into open warfare with the release of the Future & Metro Boomin album, We Don’t Trust You, which contained an incendiary verse from Kendrick Lamar and kicked off Drake and Kendrick’s increasingly vitriolic back-and-forth.

A splinter conflict between Drake and Metro emerged as a result of Drake’s “Push Ups” taunt for Metro to “shut the f*ck up and make some drums,” resulting in Metro crafting the “BBL Drizzy” instrumental. For all the ruckus, though, Drake appears to have thrown in the towel on his beef with Kendrick, which could mean an end to his similar one with Metro — although fans are still having a field day with the “BBL Drizzy” memes.

When Will Season 2 Of ‘That ’90s Show’ Stream On Netflix?

that 90s show
Netflix

That ’90s Show might have seemed like a gratuitous fan-service spinoff of That ’70s Show, and it was! But it also established a whole new set of unique characters living in the carefree time of the ’90s, before social media but after the peak of satanic panic. The golden years.

The spinoff will return for a second season and following the popular Netflix trend, the season will be split into two parts, making for one super-sized season two.

The season will see Leia return to Wisconsin for another fun summer of friends, adventures, and intimidating grandparents. Here is the official synopsis for part two:

It’s 1996 and Leia Forman is back in Point Place for another summer of fun with her friends and grandparents, Kitty and Red. Leia and Jay are excited to be together again after nine months of long distance. But she’s on edge since Jay still doesn’t know she almost kissed Nate. Nate is concerned that his girlfriend, Nikki, doesn’t know either. How long can they keep this secret? Turns out, not long at all. And when the truth finally comes out, relationships are threatened, friendships are at stake, and the summer is on the verge of ending before it even gets started.

Part 2 of the sitcom drops June 27 on Netflix, while Part 3 premieres on October 24th. Both parts consist of eight episodes.

Season one brought back a handful of the original cast, including Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, who probably won’t stop by for another episode. Season two promises some more stars, including Will Forte, Seth Green, Lisa Loeb, Carmen Electra, Wayne Knight, Kevin Smith, Tommy Chong, Jason Mewes, Matt Rife and Kadeem Hardison. Laura Prepon and Don Stark will also return.

Caitlin Clark‘s first in-season match-up is set to take place this week, so she can finally show all the NBA folks what real basketball looks like.

The Indiana Fever will take on the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, May 14th, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. Because everyone deserves the opportunity to see Clark in action, in a WNBA first, the game will be streaming live on Disney+, also a first for the streamer. Disney+ plans to integrate ESPN on the app in the coming months.

Disney’s Bob Iger mentioned the integration last week during Disney’s Q2 earnings call. “By the end of this calendar year, we will be adding an ESPN tile to Disney+, giving all U.S. subscribers access to select live games and studio programming within the Disney+ app.”

Before the big game, Clark spoke to Sports Illustrated and expressed her excitement. “You know, preseason games you’re trying to be as competitive as possible but you’re still trying to figure it out, try different lineups,” Clark explained. “So, I feel now, getting out there for the first time will be really exciting and it will be super special.”

Now you can watch both Caitlin Clark AND Airbud on Disney+! It’s fun for the whole family.

Billie Eilish Offers Another Song Snippet From Her New Album ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ Days Before Its Release

When Billie Eilish announced her new album Hit Me Hard And Soft in April, she said she didn’t plan to release any singles from the project ahead of its release on May 17. She has kept good on that promise, but that doesn’t mean fans haven’t gotten sneak peeks.

She previewed a song with Zane Lowe, she teased “Lunch” at Coachella, and now he have a snippet of “Birds Of A Feather” thanks to Netflix.

Today (May 13), Netflix shared a teaser trailer for the third season of the show Heartstopper, and it features some of the new song.

At the core of Heartstopper is gay romance, which seems in line with at least part of Eilish’s new album. In a recent interview, she said of “Lunch,” “That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real. I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after. I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina. I was never planning on talking about my sexuality ever, in a million years. It’s really frustrating to me that it came up.”

Hit Me Hard And Soft is out 5/17 via Interscope/Dark Room. Find more information here.

Everyone Is Calling ‘The Most Unnecessary Sex Scene In A Movie’ The *Most* Necessary Sex Scene In A Movie

crank
lionsgate

In terms of dumb Twitter debates, arguing the necessity of sex scenes in movies and TV shows is fairly harmless. But it’s still annoying. Usually, the person who did the bad tweet “doesn’t have many followers (they’re certainly not a major critical voice or creative in the industry), but their complaint is that they don’t like sex scenes in movies,” as Matt Goldberg wrote on his Substack. But this time, it came from an account with over two million followers.

“most unnecessary sex scene in a movie,” @everymovieplug tweeted over the weekend, along with a clip from director Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s wonderfully wild 2006 film Crank. In it, Chev Chelios (played by Jason Statham) bends Eve Lydon (Amy Smart) over a mailbox in public and begins having sex with her from behind while on-lookers cheer them on.

The sex scene rules because Crank rules, but I would also contend that it’s the most necessary sex scene in a movie ever. The plot of Crank is that Chev Chelios — who should always be referred to by his full name — has been injected with a drug and the only way to counteract the poison is to keep his adrenaline up. It’s like Speed, but Staham’s body is the bus (OK, it’s not really like Speed but just going with me here). If he doesn’t have sex in this moment, he dies. Sounds pretty necessary to me. The community note agrees.

Report: Bronny James Is ‘Expected To Stay’ In The 2024 NBA Draft After Getting Medically Cleared

lebron james bronny

Bronny James has cleared a major hurdle ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft, and as a result, the eldest son of LeBron James is apparently slated to forego the remainder of his collegiate eligibility and make the jump to the league. According to Adrian Wojnarowski and Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the NBA’s Fitness to Play Panel gave James the all-clear in the aftermath of his cardiac arrest and an ensuing heart procedure before this past college basketball season.

While James can now go through the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago that runs through May 19 before making up his mind on whether he’ll go pro or return to college — the deadline for that decision is May 29 — Shams Charania of The Athletic brought word that the expectation is James will make the jump to the NBA.

ESPN reports that James is going to participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages in Chicago as part of the combine process. If he does end up going to the NBA, James will have to do so on the back of a difficult freshman season at USC which was severely hampered by his medical issues, as the former 4-star recruit averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.8 steals in 19.3 minutes per game — he did not suit up for the Trojans until Dec. 10, and only six of his 19 appearances for the team came as a member of the starting lineup. At the conclusion of the Trojans’ season, James declared for the NBA Draft while entering the transfer portal.

All The Best New Music From This Week That You Need To Hear

bnm
Getty Image

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Megan Thee Stallion slither in with a new song and Ice Spice goes Y2K on a single of her own. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

For more music recommendations, check out our Listen To This section, as well as our Indie Mixtape and Pop Life newsletters.

Megan Thee Stallion — “Boa”

Mean Thee Stallion crushed it with “Boa” last week. Aside from confidently shutting down her haters on the track, the video is a perfect tribute to the video game worlds that Meg loves so dearly.

Post Malone — “I Had Some Help” Feat. Morgan Wallen

Post Malone is seemingly making it his mission to work with all of today’s biggest stars. He notably had appearances on perhaps the two biggest albums of the year so far (Taylor Swift’s and Beyoncé’s), and now he has linked up with Morgan Wallen on a new single, “I Had Some Help.” It’s an upbeat tune and a natural fit for country radio, and given the star power of both artists involved, expect to hear this one a lot this summer.

Ice Spice — “Gimmie A Light”

Ice has become a major star over the past couple years and now her super-anticipated debut album, Y2K, is nigh. As fans wait for that to arrive, she released “Gimmie A Light” last week,” and it’s a great way to bring Sean Paul’s 2002 classic “Gimme The Light” to present day.

Charli XCX — “360”

Brat has so far been a relative departure from the radio-ready pop of Charli XCX’s preceding album Crash, but that’s not to say it’s not inviting and catchy. Last week’s “360” certainly is, and it arrived with a video featuring folks like Julia Fox and Emma Chamberlain.

Gunna — “Still Prevail”

Gunna’s One Of Wun has arrived, and even here, it seems Drake can’t catch a break: A line from the album has some thinking Gunna has joined essentially the rest of the world in going after the embattled Canadian rapper.

Camila Cabello — “He Knows” Feat. Lil Nas X

Post Malone and Morgan Wallen didn’t have the only star collab of the week. Camila Cabello is rolling out her upcoming album C, XOXO and she did so last week with “He Knows,” a Lil Nas X collaboration that’s rhythmic and steamy.

Orville Peck and Noah Cyrus — “How Far Will We Take It?”

On the new EP Stampede: Vol. 1, Orville Peck enlisted a handful of other singers to join him on duets. He links up with Noah Cyrus on “How Far Will We Take It?,” a bittersweet look at heartache and uncertainty.

Stray Kids — “Lose My Breath” Feat. Charlie Puth

Puth has become a friend to the K-pop community over the past few years: He and Jung Kook collaborated in 2022, he linked up with Jimin last year, and last week, he strayed from the BTS-osphere by teaming with Stray Kids on “Lose My Breath.”

Coi Leray — “Lemon Cars”

Coi Leray is primarily a rapper, but that’s also not all she does. Her new single, “Lemon Cars,” is indebted to synthpop and takes a vulnerable look at a strip club employee’s tribulations.

Beabadoobee — “Take A Bite”

Beabadoobee will grace this summer with This Is How Tomorrow Moves, a new album. She announced that last week and also shared “Take A Bite,” a lovely 2000s throwback (that guitar line sounds strikingly like Incubus’ “Drive”) that’s about, in Beabadoobee’s words, about “finding comfort in chaos.”
