Since the release of Cyndi Lauper’s song “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” karaoke bars have not been the same. Over the weekend, festivalgoers attending Glastonbury 2024 had the chance to experience to sing it live alongside Lauper.
The record is an undeniable smash, and for a plethora of reasons. But according to Lauper, the first version of the hit song sucked because it dismissed women’s (the intended audience) social and political needs.
Yesterday (June 29) during an appearance on BBC Woman’s Hour, Lauper discussed the origin of the track with host Anita Rani and how she made the “necessary adjustments” to get it up to code for her.
“It was written by a man for a man,” she said. “And one, it’s not the same point of view. Two, I did try and sing it like [the songwriter] and it sucked, because you can’t try and sing it like Robert Hazard. I didn’t sound good, and the whole song didn’t sound good. You might as well just listen to his version.”
Lauper revealed she did adjust the lyric “Oh daddy dear, we are the fortunate ones” to “Oh mama dear, we are not the fortunate ones” in order to make it into an anthem from the women’s perspective.
Earlier in the conversation, Lauper talked about why the record’s meaning hit home for her.
“When They said to me: ‘Think of what it could be, it could be an anthem,’ you know who they were talking to,” she said. “I burnt my training bra at the first women’s demonstration at the Alice in Wonderland statue. I was there. And I burnt it not just for me, but for my mother and grandmother. The women whose shoulders I stand on. So that’s who they were talking to. They may not have realized that was who they were talking to, but that’s who they were talking to.”
James Harden is headed back to the Clippers, as the two sides reportedly agreed to a 2-year, $70 million that gives Harden big-time money in the immediate, but keeps the Clippers future cap sheet clean.
James Harden plans to sign a two-year, $70 million contract to return to the Los Angeles Clippers, sources tell @TheAthletic@Stadium. Harden’s agents – Mike Silverman, Troy Payne and Brandon Grier of Equity Sports – have been working with Clippers officials to finalize new deal. pic.twitter.com/dRYRS9roL9
One of the greatest offensive players of his generation, Harden forced his way to Los Angeles last season after making clear he would not continue to play for the Philadelphia 76ers. He eventually rejoined the team, but got the trade he coveted in November. While he took on a smaller role in Los Angeles alongside Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, Harden was still able to conduct the orchestra at a high level, particularly during a 22-4 stretch during the middle of the season in which the Clippers looked like a legitimate contender in the Western Conference.
Harden averaged 16.6 points, 8.5 assists, and 5.1 rebounds in 34.3 minutes per game last season while connecting on 38.1 percent of his attempts from three. Now he’ll return to a Clippers team that faces a bit of uncertainty with Paul George opting to decline his player option and enter free agency, with Harden’s former team, the Sixers, the expected top challenger for George’s services. Getting Harden’s deal done before free agency opened allowed the Clippers to focus their efforts on George once the clock hit 6 p.m. ET.
According to reports, Lady Gaga recently used her voice to get Diddy dropped from his New York law firm due to his ongoing sexual violence allegations. But that’s only partly true. Continue below for clarity.
Did Lady Gaga Force Diddy’s Law Firm To Drop Him?
Diddy (real name Sean Combs) is facing a mountain of legal issues. The former Revolt TV mogul has been named in several lawsuits that allege sexual assault, abuse, battery, and more, included in that pile are fillings from Cassie and Lil Rod. So, was Combs dropped as a client by a law firm he retained? According to Page Six, the answer is yes.
A spokesperson from Grubman, Shire, Meiselas & Sacks, exclusively confirmed that the New York firm no longer represent Combs. However, they denied Lady Gaga was involved in the decision to cut ties with Combs.
“The decision to part ways with Mr. Combs was proactively made by the partners in the firm a number of months ago, as they felt it was the right thing to do,” said the rep. “The report that the decision was the result of client pressure just isn’t true.”
Where did the rumor come from? On June 27, News Nation Now claimed to have received inside information regarding the matter.
“Lady Gaga said she was leaving (the firm) if they didn’t drop Diddy,” a source told the platform. “And she’s too big to lose.”
But this off the record exchange has since been refuted by someone close to Lady Gaga. “That convo never happened,” the contact told Page Six.
Sure, hard seltzer has exploded on the drinking scene in the past few years. But classic flavored seltzer and sparkling water has been booming too. It’s the perfect, effervescent drink if you’re looking for something with the bubbles of soda, light flavor, and none of the sugar (and often very little if any calories) of soda.
But what if you’re in the mood for sparkling water that tastes like beer? That’s where hop water comes in.
The aforementioned hard seltzer is for flavored sparkling water fans who still want booze involved. Non-alcoholic beer is for folks who want to drink something that has no (or very little) alcohol by volume that (at least) resembles a stout, IPA, pale ale, lager, or another beer style. Hop water is for drinkers who simply want a refreshing, effervescent non-alcoholic beverage that tastes like crisp hops.
Just like the NA beer and hard seltzer, hop water has gained in popularity in the past few years. This has led to many brands launching their own hop waters. To help you find the best of the bunch we sample and ranked eight of the best, most refreshing hop waters that are actually worth drinking. Keep scrolling to see them all.
This alcohol-free, gluten-free sparkling water gets its flavor from sweet mango, and other tropical fruit flavors. It also gets floral, pine, fruity aromas and flavors from the addition of Chinook hops. The result is a crisp, refreshing, hoppy sparkling water.
Tasting Notes:
The nose is very floral and has a hint of tropical fruits and pine. The palate is very refreshing and crushable with a nice backbone of juicy, fruity mango, guava, and other tropical fruit flavors that pair perfectly with floral, piney hops.
Bottom Line:
While you can’t go wrong with a classic hop water, if you’re a fan of tropical fruits (mangoes in particular) this is the hop water for you.
Founded in 2014, this award-winning brand is known for its zero alcohol, gluten-free, calorie-free, organic hop waters. One of its best is its Grapefruit Hop Water, made simply with carbonated water, premium hops, and juicy, tart grapefruit flavor.
Tasting Notes:
The nose isn’t overly fragrant and that’s not such a bad thing. There are notes of floral, piney hops, and ripe pink grapefruit. That’s all you need. The palate continues this trend. It’s very crisp and refreshing with a ton of ripe grapefruit as well as dank, floral, piney hops. The finish is dry, and hoppy, and leaves you craving more.
Bottom Line:
Hops and grapefruit, what’s not to love? This is a hop water for the citrus fans looking for a new summer crusher.
Previously referred to as Bravus Whirl, Bravus Focus is a 100% organic sparkling hop water that’s flavored with nootropics and adaptogens as well as Amarillo, and Citra hops. Additionally, this refresher is flavored with organic lemon extract, ginger extract, organic Siberian ginseng extract, and organic green tea extract. The result is an effervescent, herbal hop water featuring notes of citrus and spices.
Tasting Notes:
A lot is going on with this hop water’s nose. There’s a ton of lemon zest, but also some spicy ginger, herbal tea, and floral notes. Sipping it reveals more of the same in the best way possible. It’s very crisp and refreshing with a nice backbone of lemon and a nice kick of ginger as well as green tea, and piney hops.
Bottom Line:
This is the hop water for drinkers looking for as much flavor as possible. Citrus, ginger, herbal tea, hops, this water has it all.
While HOP WTR has a variety of flavors, why not stick with the classic, right? This hop water was crafted to be refreshing, highly crushable, and taste like your favorite IPA. This is thanks to the addition of Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo, and Azacca hops.
Tasting Notes:
Nosing, you’ll feel like you’re smelling your favorite IPA. This sparkling water is exploding with citrus, tropical fruit, floral, and piney hop aromas. The palate continues this trend with a refreshing, crushable body and a ton of citrus, floral, and piney hops.
Bottom Line:
This is called “Classic” and that’s just what it is. If you’re looking for traditional West Coast IPA aromas and flavors, this is your hop water.
With a name like Thirst Mutilator, you should have a decent idea of what this hop water is all about. This collaboration between Short’s Brewing and bluegrass guitarist Billy Strings is always crushable and always available. Also, it’s loaded with floral, piney hops, and citrus flavors.
Tasting Notes:
You’ll find notes of lime peels, lemon zest, wet grass, and floral, piney, herbal hops on the nose. Drinking it brings forth more refreshing, thirst-quenching lemon and lime flavors that pair perfectly with the floral, pine needle-centric hops.
Bottom Line:
This is a very aptly named hop water. It’s gently flavored with lemon, lime, and hops, and extremely crushable.
Sierra Nevada is well-known for its beer, specifically Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. But when you want something flavorful, hoppy, and thirst-quenching with no calories or alcohol, look no further than Sierra Nevada Hop Splash. This banger is infused with Citra and Amarillo hops.
Tasting Notes:
There’s a reason this is a popular hop water. It begins with scents of orange peels, grapefruit, pineapple, ripe peach, and pine needles. The palate continues this trend with notes of ripe peach, mango, grapefruit, tangerine, and floral pine. The finish is crisp, refreshing, and hoppy.
Bottom Line:
As hop waters go, Sierra Nevada has a ton going for it. Not only is it extremely refreshing, but it’s loaded with tropical fruit, citrus, and pine flavors.
Crisp, zingy, and hoppily refreshing. This sparkling beverage is made using everything Lagunitas knows about hops. Chock-full of Citra, Equinox, and Centennial hops for a big splash of surprisingly fruity flavor.
Tasting Notes:
Complex aromas of lime zest, lemon peels, ripe orange, pineapple, and pine needles greet you before your first sip. The citrus party continues on the palate with more lemon, lime, tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, and dank pine flavors.
Bottom Line:
Hoppy, refreshing, and loaded with citrus and dank pine. What’s not to love in a hop water?
Hoplark Tropical Hops is a Sabro-hopped water. The result is a highly refreshing, crushable hop water featuring a ton of tropical fruit and citrus flavors. It’s a perfectly piney, dank break from high-ABV IPAs. This is a very thirst-quenching, warm-weather hop water you’ll want to drink all spring and summer long.
Tasting Notes:
A nose of tangerine, lime zest, orange peel, lemongrass, coconut, and a sublimely dank pine greets you before your first sip. Sipping it reveals flavors like tangerine, pineapple, coconut, lemon peel, peach, and a ton of dank, resinous, pine. This is a memorable hop water you’ll go back to again and again.
Bottom Line:
If you’re a fan of tropical fruit flavors and dank pine you’ll love this hop water. It’s as close to an IPA as you can get in the hop water world.
Welcome to SNX DLX, your weekly roundup of the best sneakers to hit the internet. Well, it’s finally happened. After weeks, no, months of endless fire drops we’ve finally hit the slowest week for sneaker drops since the winter. Yes, there are still gems — as long as Nike is a company, there will always be a Jordan or two worth picking up from week to week — but this week’s list is considerably truncated.
But that’s fine because it gives us a chance to talk about an interesting collaboration that otherwise wouldn’t be a fit for our weekly roundup. Nike and Hyperice have teamed up for a collection of tech-enabled footwear and apparel that combines the latter brand’s heat, cooling, and massage technology with Nike’s undeniable design sense.
The whole collection is interesting but we’d like to pay special attention to the Nike x Hyperice Boot. The boot combines on-demand heat and dynamic air compression and massage aimed at your feet and ankles with the sort of futuristic design that would show up in a Will.i.am video. Since we here at SNX focus on a more casual implementation of footwear, we’re not including it in our list, but if you’re into high-intensity training or a practicing athlete (the boot is already being used by Olympic athletes) it’s worth looking into.
Alright, let’s dive into this week’s best sneaker drops.
This would’ve been a cool design to drop when Dune 2 hit theaters, but better late than never we suppose. The Dune Red AJ 13 features a synthetic leather upper with textile overlays, and microfiber accents which give the sneaker a cool textural overhaul to differ from the original design. The colorway is a combination of rich red tones and bright white.
Materials aside, the build is identical to the ’98 Tinker Hatfield original.
The Air Jordan 13 Dune Red is out now for a retail price of $200. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.
The Ja 1 is getting a new colorway that celebrates an aspect of America’s greatest city. The Court Blue and Hyper Pink JA 1 sports Air Zoom cushioning with a mixed leather, mesh, and textile upper, a textured swoosh, and branding at the heel that serves as a shoutout to the legendary NY vs. NY tournament held for the boys and girls teams of NYC.
The colorway combines blue tones with hot pink and rides on a blue-to-pink to-red semi-translucent outsole.
The Nike Ja 1 Ny x Ny Court Blue and Hyper Pink is out now for a retail price of $130. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.
JJJJound just dropped its most vibrant sneaker collaboration with Adidas to date. Now if you’re looking at the shoe above and questioning my use of the word “vibrant,” you might not be familiar with JJJJound’s typical output and aesthetic.
The Montreal-based brand is known for its stark minimal and ultra-clean design ethos. It’s the sort of vibe that makes the reception of the brand incredibly polarizing, you either love JJJJound or hate the brand, we sit pretty comfortably in the former camp. A sneaker with a monochromatic Tobacco colorway feels like a marked departure from what we expect from the brand, and for that reason alone, we’re loving this collab.
But then there is the design as well, which as always, is ticking all our boxes. It takes the classic Samba silhouette and elevates it with a suede upper, hairy suede accents, and leather lining. It’s a simple but effective overhaul of a classic sneaker.
The JJJJound x Adidas Samba is out now for a retail price of $160. Pick up a pair via the Adidas CONFIRMED app.
New Balance Made in USA 990v6 Vintage Rose with Sea Salt
Price:$199.99
The 990v6 is getting one of New Balance’s coveted “Seasonal Collection” drops. First up is this elegant Vintage Rose and Sea Salt colorway. The sneaker features a mesh upper with suede and synthetic overlays, TPU back tabs, reflective accents, and an ENCAP midsole.
Because the sneaker is out of NB’s MiUSA line, you know the build is going to be quality, so let’s just dive into the design. At a cursory glance, this sneaker looks off-white, but a closer look reveals a combination of pastel pink tones, so pink, we’re going to go ahead and call it “blush,” with striking black contrast points, and off-white sea salt accents.
It’s a beautiful design and one of NB’s best Seasonal Collection drops of the year.
The New Balance Made in USA 990v6 Vintage Rose with Sea Salt is out now for a retail price of $199.99. Pick up a pair at New Balance.
New Balance Made in USA 990v6 White with Black Plum and Phantom
I feel a bit bad for the Black Plum and Phantom 990v6 because it’s easily the least exciting of the two. This sneaker is part of the same Made in USA Seasonal Collection as the Vintage Rose and it’s the same silhouette, but the colorway isn’t quite as elegant or interesting. Luckily, this sneaker isn’t without its own interesting differences, namely the more elevated mesh upper with pig suede overlays.
The colorway combines a mix of white and black with rich plum overlays, so if you aren’t interested in the understated elegance of the Vintage Rose but love the design of the 990v6, this is the pick for you.
The New Balance Made in USA 990v6 White with Black Plum and Phantom is out now for a retail price of $199.99. Pick up a pair at New Balance.
Union LA has been relatively quiet this year but they’re coming out of the gate hot with a Nike collaboration that puts the brand’s signature look and aesthetic on a recently rediscovered vintage silhouette from the vaults — the Field General. The full collection features some dope matching apparel, but since this is SNX, we’re just here to talk about the shoes.
Union’s take sports a mixed mesh, leather, and suede build with Union LA tag branding, exposed stitching details, and some seriously eye-catching colorways.
We love the return of the Field General but we’re calling it — this is the best the sneaker will look all year. I’ve already bookmarked this sneaker for consideration for our year-end best sneakers of 2024 list.
The Union LA x Nike Field General is out now for a retail price of $120. Pick up a pair at Union LA.

Summer is the season of sun, fun, and flings. Following recent reports, it appears Gracie Abrams heard that message loud and clear. Yesterday (June 29), the “Us” singer was spotted having a cozy lunch with Paul Mescal in London.
Now, fans of the budding entertainers are desperate to know should they begin picking out a couple name. Or chalk the encounter up to professional networking? Continue below for more details.
Are Gracie Abrams And Paul Mescal Dating?
Today (June 30), TMZ shared photos of Abrams and Mescal dining at BRAT Restaurant. According to sources, the pair gave off subtle signs of a budding relationship, including sharing small meals and intimate physical exchanges. However, this isn’t the first time Mescal has been linked with another celebrity due to his kind demeanor.
In March, the public went crazy after rumors that Mescal and Ayo Edebiri were potentially an item. As of now, that reports hasn’t produced any proof. At one point, Mescal was even linked to Natalie Portman.
With neither party talking, and Mescal’s vow (in Vanity Fair) to never speak about his personal life in the public following his supposed rough split from Phoebe Bridgers, it is hard to tell.
A quick glance at Abrams’ Instagram following list will show that she is tied to both Bridgers and Mescal’s sister and singer, Nell Mescal. So, to air on the side of caution, it Abrams and Mescal could very well just be good friends.
In short, only time and further detective work will uncover this mystery.
A few weeks back, Coldplay announced their musical return with a new single, “Feelslikeimfallinginlove.” Fans will need to hold out until October 4 for the release of the group’s 10th studio album, Moon Music.
Before introducing Fox, Martin sang the praises of the festival’s co-creator Michael Eavis, who was projected onto the main stage screen. The Martin turned his attention to Fox.
“Here’s another legendary Michael,” he said. “One who just totally rocks. With his Chuck Berry rife, and the way he punched Biff…ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, Michael J. Fox.”
The introduction was met with a thunderous round of applause from the crowd. The band and Fox went onto play “Fix You,” an acknowledgement of Fox’s ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Users online were moved by the emotional act. “I’m genuinely confident that literally everyone on the planet universally loves Michael J. Fox, he’s an incredible human being and a childhood hero to so many, what a lovely touch from Coldplay, ” wrote one user.

The duo will become the NBA’s first father-son combo to play in the same game, doing something that’s only ever really been seen in baseball. Bronny isn’t the only son of LeBron’s with NBA aspirations, as Bryce James also plays shooting guard and is coming off of his junior year in high school. Bryce James is a 3-star prospect, per 247 Sports, ranked 163rd overall in the nation as a prospect, which means his path to the NBA isn’t exactly assured (even if the family name will get him plenty of attention). Still, LeBron starred in a commercial a year ago that teased that he’d like to play with both of his sons, so there’s some wonder if he’ll try to play all the way until Bryce (a rising senior in high school) is draft eligible.
That would be at least two more years, if Bryce goes one-and-done, and when the youngest of James’ sons was asked about playing with his dad on an IG live, he explained very matter of factly that he didn’t see that as a real possibility.
I asked Bryce James if he thinks LeBron would wait for him to get drafted before retiring. His response:
“They asked if my dad’s still gonna be in the league when I get drafted. That’s too much. Nah. Nah. Cause, what? He’s 39…He gonna be 42, bro,” Bryce James said.
It wouldn’t be completely unheard of for someone to play until they were 42, but it certainly would be rare. LeBron hasn’t offered any strong indications of when he’ll call it a career, besides hinting at it last year after getting swept in the Conference Finals when he was very tired and frustrated. The most recent reporting has said he’ll likely be taking things year-by-year. He could play three more seasons, but Bryce certainly isn’t banking on it (and also might realize his path to the league might not take just two years).
Simone Biles is ready to compete in Paris this summer. Biles, the legendary American gymnast who has been part of the team at each of the last two Olympic Games, is in the midst of yet another dominant year, and is currently tearing up the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Minneapolis.
Biles found herself in first place after Day 1 of the Team Trials, which included a dominant floor exercise. Biles started her routine with the Taylor Swift single “…Ready for It?,” and over the ensuing 90 seconds, she performed a routine that put her in first place in the exercise.
— NBC Olympics & Paralympics (@NBCOlympics) June 29, 2024
The clip went viral, as is usually the case when Biles does something incredible during a competition, and caught the attention of Swift. She hopped into the replies of the official account for NBC’s coverage of the Olympics and the Paralympics and expressed her support for Biles, while making clear that she’s watched the routine “so many times.”
Watched this so many times and still unready. She’s ready for it tho
This is not the first time Swift has expressed her support for Biles, as the pop star was one of the most prominent voices who spoke out in the aftermath of Biles withdrawing from the U.S. Olympic team and only competing and medaling in the balance beam in Tokyo.
Everyone’s childhood is different. But there are common objects, sights, sounds, smells, and memories from elementary school that most Gen Xers and Millenials share.
Personally, when i think back to being in elementary school in the ’80s, I remember the taste of the chocolate ship cookie we got on Fridays (with the pizza). The humiliation of getting nailed in the back during nation ball. And the grumbling, grinding sound that happened when you slipped a disk into the drive on an Apple IIe computer.
Nowadays, in a world where most kids would have no idea how to even turn on an Apple IIe or have never felt the sting of a rubber nation ball hitting them square between the shoulders, I get a bittersweet feeling when I think back to my elementary school days.
Mel Madara stirred the nostalgia pot on Twitter this week when she posted a series of photos of things she remembers from elementary school that anyone from 50 to 25 probably recollect, too.
The stool that helped you grab that Judy Blume book just out of reach. It aw also a rgeat place to sit and read if the tables were filled up or you just wanted some privacy.
… or if you’re older, you got “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” or some other Disney nature film on 16mm film in the school cafeteria.
You were lucky. For the older folks on here, you’ll remember these. When they worked they were awesome; but if something jammed up, and the film in front of the bulb melted, school movie time was over. Well, unless you had a nerdy AV kid in your class…. pic.twitter.com/XI31FKgpz7 — Big Daddy 🅿️1️⃣ (@bryaninbigd) March 4, 2020
