Sheryl Crow Blasted Drake Soaking Up Tupac’s Vocal Likeness On His Kendrick Lamar Diss Track ‘Taylor Made Freestyle’

All Drake wanted to do was have some fun. But even folks on the country side aren’t having his Tupac cosplay. In an interview with BBC, country icon Sheryl Crow expressed her chagrin toward artists using AI in their music. Specifically, Drake’s use of AI to imitate Tupac’s voice on his Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

“You cannot bring people back from the dead and believe that they would stand for that,” Crow said. “I’m sure Drake thought, ‘Yeah, I shouldn’t do it, but I’ll say sorry later.’ But it’s already done, and people will find it even if he takes it down. It’s hateful. It is antithetical to the life force that exists in all of us.”

The track was removed from online shortly after its release, largely in part to Tupac’s estate threatening a lawsuit. However, Crow says that Drake’s actions cannot be undone.

But luckily, she isn’t too shaken up about the possibility of AI creeping into the industry. Especially because artists can do what AI can’t — perform with live with pure, raw vocals and instrumentation.

“AI can do lots of things, but it can’t go out and play live,” Crow said. “So as long as we have live music, as long as we have hands holding a paintbrush, all is not lost.”

Lil Durk Is Recruiting LeBron To The Bulls By Offering To Pay Half His Salary, But Might Not Realize How Much That Is

LeBron James has until the end of this week to decide what he’s doing with his player option with the Lakers, and if he chooses not to pick it up, he’ll become a free agent on Sunday evening when the NBA’s moratorium period opens at 6 p.m. ET on June 30.

While most expect LeBron to stay in Los Angeles, there are plenty of teams that would love to add the future Hall of Famer and would like the chance to pitch him on why a change of scenery might be his best bet for another championship run. The Sixers and Suns are known to have interest in James, but other teams would surely try to get a meeting as well. While the Chicago Bulls don’t really have a great case to make as a potential title contender, that hasn’t stopped Chicago native and Bulls fan Lil Durk from doing his best to recruit LeBron (and Bronny) to the Bulls.

Durk posted a screenshot of a message he sent James to his IG story on Tuesday recruiting him to Chicago, offering to pay half of LeBron’s salary himself if he has to.

I’m not sure Lil Durk’s accountant would agree with this offer, as James is eligible to sign a deal that would pay him more than $50 million annually, which would put Durk on the hook for a tidy $25+ million per year. That said, you have to respect the effort here to do whatever you can to help your favorite team. The Bulls can’t acquire James without a pretty complicated sign-and-trade, but honestly, I think plenty of Bulls fans would feel better about Lil Durk handling Chicago’s roster moves than Arturas Karnisovas at this point — especially after the Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey trade.

Denzel Curry And That Mexican OT Delve Into 1990s Underground Rap On Their ‘Black Flag Freestyle’

Denzel Curry’s new album King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 comes out in a little less than a month, and today, he shared the next single to help build its buzz. “Black Flag Freestyle” features Bay City, Texas rapper That Mexican OT, fresh off his selection as a XXL Freshman, and was debuted via a gritty performance on From The Block filmed in Houston in front of the legendary Screwed Up Records & Tapes store.

So far, King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 sounds like it’s a return to the Memphis trap sound that first launched Denzel’s career after his last album, Melt My Eyes, See Your Future, diverged into more therapeutic topics and sounds. The other single Denzel released, “Hot Ones,” also delved into dark samples from ’90s Memphis underground rap alongside TiaCorine and ASAP Ferg, another noted purveyor of the goth trap sound favored by the likes of Juicy J and Gimisum Family. Memphis underground legend Kingpin Skinny Pimp also appears on the tracklist, alongside Curry contemporaries like ASAP Rocky, Kenny Mason, Maxo Kream, Ski Mask the Slump God, and more.

King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 is out 7/19 via Loma Vista. Find more information here.

The long-running festival Life Is Beautiful is introducing a new format to the city of Las Vegas. Since 2013, the festival has been a staple of Sin City’s fall festivities. After a 2023 lineup including The Killers, Kendrick Lamar, and Odesza, this year, the festival is launching A Big Beautiful Block Party, a two-day party in downtown Las Vegas, with headliners Justice, Peggy Gou, and LCD Soundsystem. Jamie xx, Jungle, James Blake, Thundercat, Toro y Moi, BADBADNOTGOOD, Neil Frances, LP Giobbi, Empress Of, John Talabot, and Fifi are also all booked to perform, with no overlapping sets.

The festival will run from 5 PM to 2 AM on September 27-28, turning downtown Vegas into “a massive dance party.” While we don’t know exactly what this will look like, it certainly sound exciting. Tickets for the festival go on sale on Thursday, June 27, at 10 AM. You can find more information at lifeisbeautiful.com. General Admission passes start at $199, while VIP passes start at $399.

Turning the festival into a two-day event rolls the festival back from the three-day event that has been traditional since 2014. In 2022, the festival was acquired by new owners which include Penske Media Corporation and Rolling Stone, which could account for the revamped block party formatting.

Drew Carey Spilled The Tea On A ‘Price Is Right’ Contestant Who Was (Literally) Tripping On ‘Shrooms

drew carey
cbs

While some people go on game shows to flex their knowledge or make money or just to get on TV, most people do not go on game shows while on drugs. Do you really want to stand in front of America during prime time if you aren’t in the right state of mind? Probably not. Which is why The Price Is Right isn’t on prime time, it’s a daytime show, so all bets are off there!

Drew Carey, who has been hosting the show for almost 18 years, says that he has seen it all. More specifically, he’s seen people in all different types of states, including those who are tripping on shrooms.

In an interview with TVInsider, Carey was asked about the “over the top” type of contestants. He has seen a lot of them. “Oh, that happens here all the time. They’ll have a gummy or I’ll smell alcohol on their breath. Not unusual,” he began.

Then he went even further. “There was a guy here that was tripping on mushrooms. He came with a bunch of friends. He was a sketch [comedy] guy. I found out later when I went to UCB [sketch improv theater, United Citizens Brigade] to hang out, and they were like, ‘Did you see that guy who claimed to be a skateboarding rabbi?’ I asked him what he did for a living. And he goes, ‘I’m a skateboarding rabbi.’ He didn’t think he was going to get picked, and he totally tripped.” Carey did not say if the contestant ended up winning a game of Plinko.

Luckily, Carey says he wants to stick around for a while. “I do have a goal: I want to keep going until I die. This is my 18th season. I’ve got to get the 35 and 41 so I can catch Bob Barker and Pat Sajak.” Nobody will be catching up to Pat Sajak anytime soon…he’s going to be a star!

While Lil Jon has been on a meditation and wellness kick for the past several months, he’s still best known for being the guy who questioned: “Turn Down For What?” Peloton has found a way to combine the high energy of Jon’s musical output with his new mission of promoting healthy living, incorporating his music into several of its classes, with Jon himself leading classes in riding and meditation on launch day, June 27.

“My meditation journey really led me to take on a more positive mindset, and has really helped drive awareness and access to the practice of meditation,” Jon told Billboard. “Everyone deserves to find an outlet that gives them moments of peace. I’m excited to join Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts [in the Meditation Class], I know what an influential force she is in the yoga and meditation space!”

The classes that Lil Jon’s music will support will include cycling, tread, row, meditation, and strength.

Later this summer, Lil Jon will join Pitbull and T-Pain on select dates of their Party After Dark Tour. Meanwhile, you can listen to his two guided meditation albums, Total Meditations and Manifest Abundance: Affirmations Of Personal Growth, both of which were released this year, now on all DSPs.

Tom Hanks And Robin Wright Got The De-Aging Treatment In A ‘Here’ First Look, And People Are Cracking The Same Joke

here movie
SONY

Every once in a while, a director will come around with an innovative movie idea. Richard Linklater filmed over the course of 12 years, while Martin Scorsese wanted to make a movie over the course of 30 years, but he just used some CGI instead and shot it over six months. He’s a busy guy, so that makes sense. Robert Zemeckis is known for two things: his quirky, often CGI-infused movies, and working with Tom Hanks. Sometimes, those ideas coincide, and that’s how we end up with Here. And The Polar Express.

Here is based on the graphic novel of the same name which focuses on one central location over hundreds of years and into the future. Zemeckis wanted to apply this ideal to a film, and Here was born.

The movie stars who else but Tom Hanks alongside Robin Wright and takes place in one room over 100 years. “The single perspective never changes, but everything around it does,” Zemeckis told Vanity Fair. “It’s actually never been done before. There are similar scenes in very early silent movies, before the language of montage was invented. But other than that, yeah, it was a risky venture.”

Risky, yes. But also familiar to anyone who has ever been to The Happiest/Sweatiest Place on Earth, Disney World, and ridden the Carousel of Progress, a slow-moving ride that is essentially the same premise as Here and had everyone thinking the same thing.

There were even rumors several years ago that Hanks would one day take over as narrator for the Carousel of Progress, but he was too busy enjoying his life, so we can’t blame him for that.

Aside from the obvious Carousel of Progress jokes, the main issue here is that we seem to have gone too far with the de-aging tech. Why couldn’t they have just cast younger versions of Hanks? Who knows. Chet Hanks is obviously available! But a teenage version of Hanks in the year 2024 just seems… wrong.

That said, however Hanks looks, there is no way it could possibly be worse than The Polar Express.

Here is slated to hit theaters on November 15.

A ‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Just Had The Second Worst Single-Game Score In The Game Show’s Long History

jeopardy
jeopardy

In a season 9 episode of The Simpsons, Marge Simpson goes on Jeopardy! to make money after Bart lies about burning down the family’s Christmas tree and presents. It’s a whole thing. The point is, Marge’s plan backfires when she finishes with the comically low total of negative $5,200.

But that’s still $2,000 better than how a recent contestant did.

On Monday’s episode of Jeopardy!, Erin Buker, a stay-at-home mom from San Pedro, California, competed against Michigan graduate student Drew Basile and Canadian lightning designer Graham Hicks. But really, she was competing against history: according to TV Insider, Buker finished with negative $7,200, which is the second lowest score in the game show’s history. She was only 200 bucks away from the lowest total, set by Patrick Pearce on July 26, 2021.

Once the episode aired, Buker commented on the Jeopardy! subreddit. She’s a good sport. “When it came to the buzzer, I was my own worst enemy, frequently buzzing in midway through the clue as if my thumb had a mind of its own. There’s something uniquely frustrating about knowing answers, but not having the wherewithall to ring in at the appropriate time to answer them. That was my defecit and I own it entirely,” she wrote. Buker added, “All I know is that when the WOAT tournament rolls around, I’m a shoe-in!”

It’s unclear if she had to pay the money back, like Marge did.

12 non-threatening leadership strategies for women

Note: This an excerpt is from Sarah Cooper’s book, How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings.

In this fast-paced business world, female leaders need to make sure they’re not perceived as pushy, aggressive, or competent.

One way to do that is to alter your leadership style to account for the fragile male ego.

Should men accept powerful women and not feel threatened by them? Yes. Is that asking too much?

IS IT?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to get aggressive there. Anyhoo, here are twelve non-threatening leadership strategies for women.

womenu2019s communication, women in business, men

When setting a deadline, ask your coworker what he thinks of doing something, instead of just asking him to get it done. This makes him feel less like you’re telling him what to do and more like you care about his opinions.

Sarah Cooper comedy, women, success

When sharing your ideas, overconfidence is a killer. You don’t want your male coworkers to think you’re getting all uppity. Instead, downplay your ideas as just “thinking out loud,” “throwing something out there,” or sharing something “dumb,” “random,” or “crazy.”

emails, comedy, gen

Pepper your emails with exclamation marks and emojis so you don’t come across as too clear or direct. Your lack of efficient communication will make you seem more approachable.

office politics, men, relationships

If a male coworker steals your idea in a meeting, thank him for it. Give him kudos for how he explained your idea so clearly. And let’s face it, no one might’ve ever heard it if he hadn’t repeated it.

sexism, sexist comments, sexual harassment

When you hear a sexist comment, the awkward laugh is key. Practice your awkward laugh at home, with your friends and family, and in the mirror. Make sure you sound truly delighted even as your soul is dying inside.

threats, non-threatening, mansplain

Men love explaining things. But when he’s explaining something and you already know that, it might be tempting to say, “I already know that.” Instead, have him explain it to you over and over again. It will make him feel useful and will give you some time to think about how to avoid him in the future.

leadership, work mistakes, hurt feelings

Pointing out a mistake is always risky so it’s important to always apologize for noticing the mistake and then make sure that no one thinks you’re too sure about it. People will appreciate your “hey what do I know?!” sensibilities.

promotions, management, coworkers

Asking your manager for a promotion could make you seem power- hungry, opportunistic, and transparent. Instead, ask a male coworker to vouch for you. Have your coworker tell your manager you’d be great for the role even though you don’t really want it. This will make you more likely to actually get that promotion.

rude behavior, ignored, self esteem

Sometimes not everyone is properly introduced at the start of a meeting. Don’t take it personally even if it happens to you all the time, and certainly don’t stop the meeting from moving forward to introduce yourself. Sending a quick note afterward is the best way to introduce yourself without seeming too self-important.

interruptions, resilience,expression

When you get interrupted, you might be tempted to just continue talking or even ask if you can finish what you were saying. This is treacherous territory. Instead, simply stop talking. The path of least resistance is silence.

typing, off-putting, work skills

When collaborating with a man, type using only one finger. Skill and speed are very off-putting.

disagreements, solution, problem solving

When all else fails, wear a mustache so everyone sees you as more man-like. This will cancel out any need to change your leadership style. In fact, you may even get a quick promotion!

strategies, power dynamics, team player

Many women have discovered the secret power of non-threatening leadership. We call it a “secret power” because no one else actually knows about it. We keep our power hidden within ourselves so that it doesn’t frighten and intimidate others. That’s what makes us the true unsung heroes of the corporate world.
