Travis Kelce Reveals His Three Favorite Taylor Swift Songs, Including A ‘Banger’ From ‘1989’

During one of Taylor Swift’s celebrity-filled shows in London’s Wembley Stadium over the weekend, Fleabag stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott were filmed leaving the VIP tent — only to excitedly run back when the opening chords to “Style” started playing. That’s how Travis Kelce feels every time he hears “Blank Space.”

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end (and boyfriend of Taylor Swift, in case you hadn’t heard) appeared on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, where he was asked to name his three favorite Swift songs.

His number one pick? “Blank Space” from 1989. “It’s a banger,” Kelce explained, accurately. The second spot went to Lover fan favorite “Cruel Summer,” which is “one of the ones she opens with at her show [on The Eras Tour], and when she comes out, it’s f*cking electric in the stadium. I was fired up when that happened the first show I was ever at,” he said. For his third and final selection, Kelce chose “So High School” from The Tortured Poets Department. “It’s got a little bit of a sentimental meaning,” he said of the Grand Theft Auto-referencing song that is rumored to be written about him. Kelce then quoted the line, “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle.”

To recap:

1. “Blank Space”
2. “Cruel Summer”
3. “So High School”

Once again, my beloved “State Of Grace” has been snubbed.

JJ Redick Says He Heard Everything People Said About Him But Insists ‘I Really Don’t Give A F*ck’

The Los Angeles Lakers finally unveiled JJ Redick as the franchise’s new head coach on Monday. After a lengthy search to find Darvin Ham’s replacement that generally had him pegged as a favorite — save for a detour in which the team unsuccessfully tried to convince Dan Hurley to leave UConn to take over in L.A. that did get addressed — Redick finally met with the media and discussed his appointment as the team’s head coach.

Unsurprisingly, a big aspect of his conversation with the press was how Redick has never coached before, outside of his sons’ youth teams. Redick, to his credit, did have some fun at his own expense with this.

A little later in the press conference, though, Redick was asked about “misconceptions or concerns” that he heard about himself amid this hiring process, and specifically which ones he wants to dispel. In response, Redick gave a rather blunt answer about how he heard what people had to say, but ultimately, his focus is elsewhere.

“It’s a valid question, and I’ve certainly heard everything — it’s been a really interesting six weeks or so, just in terms of being part of the engagement farming industry, it’s been really interesting,” Redick said. “However, I don’t really have a great answer for your question because I really don’t give a f*ck. Like, honestly. I want to coach the Lakers, I want to coach the team, I don’t want to dispel anything, I don’t. I wanna become a great coach in the NBA, and I wanna win championships, and I want my players to maximize their careers. That’s all I f*cking care about.”

19 common American things in film and TV that definitely don’t happen in real life

Odds are you’ve come across a movie or television moment that made you think, “this definitely would never happen in real life.” Or maybe you thought something about a time or place which wasn’t actually real, thanks to a show you watched. I, for example, totally thought separate his & hers beds were a common thing in the 50s, thanks to “I Love Lucy.”

That’s kind of the magic of motion pictures. The line between reality and illusion is sometimes so blurred you really can’t discern between the whole “art imitating life” and “life imitating art” thing. Of course, the unbelievability of some common tropes make you wonder how they’ve endured for so long in the first place.

Recently, Reddit user rustyyryan asked: “What American thing is not that common but shown in many Hollywood movies/TV shows?”

Thousands responded. But here are some of the best answers.

1. “On Law and Order, when the police come and people keep doing their drone jobs. Sorry, but the most exciting thing in my day is a visit by the police, so I’m stopping everything, offering coffee, asking lots of questions, and ratting out my neighbors on unrelated things!”wawa2022

“The other thing with Law and Order and other cop shows is that people always act annoyed toward the cops. IRL, the vast majority of people are not going to act that way. I’ve had a couple of cop visits and I was always shocked and kind of nervous and there was no way I would have acted like they were getting on my nerves!”logorrhea69

Woman creates viral music video about how doctors don’t understand the female body

Sometimes you come across something that makes you giggle and want to cry all at the same time. Laughter can help take the sting out of uncomfortable or upsetting information and Farideh (@ilove farideh) has found a way to make hard truths funny with music videos. Recently the Instagram creator uploaded a video poking fun at the medical mystery that is the human female body.

Women have been a mystery in the medical community for as long as medicine has been around. Of course doctors know that women exist and the inner workings of the human bodies but there seems to be something about uterus owners that baffles doctors. It ranges from hormones to pain levels, to specific issues related to having a uterus.

Farideh covers it all in a catchy tune complete with pretty awesome dance moves that has commenters clapping along. The song starts off with the woman listing multiple medical conditions specific to woman, endometriosis, PCOS and more before singing, “what’s happening to your body, we don’t know because we’ve never really studied the female body.”

“You say it’s all in my head but the research is quite spotty,” Farideh sings. Women in the comments are backing up the woman with her musical observation of what it’s like to navigate the medical complex as a person born with female reproductive systems.

“She came for the entire failure of the medical community with a banger and bars. Not one lie told,” one person says.

“‘Just take birth control pills’ – every single doctor for any symptom at all,” another writes.

“Thank you for doing this. This is art. This is iconic. This. Is. Our. Anthem. ‘Do you have pain? No you don’t.'” someone agrees.

“Thanks. I hate it because it rings so true, but love you for singing the truth,” one commenter shares.

While many women in the comments were praising the creator, others shared their heartbreaking reality of not being taken seriously when seeking medical care.

“‘I don’t feel quite right and I’m so lethargic’. GP: lose weight, exercise more, see my partner who is a psychologist. It was stage 3 cancer. I wish I was joking,” a woman reveals.

“Immediately after giving birth, my uterus didn’t contract and I was hemorrhaging significantly. I was in severe pain. They thought I was overreacting and having a panic attack so instead of treating my problem, they gave me a dose of Lorazepam to shut me up. I ended up losing over 3 litters of blood, went into shock, and had to be resuscitated. Why are there so many stories like this? Unacceptable,” another explains.

While Farideh’s song is amusing, the issue she’s highlighting is extremely important. Hopefully the research gap will be addressed so women can feel listened to and cared for when they seek medical attention.

Woody Harrelson shares how he ditched his phone after failing to limit his screen time

On a recent episode of his “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast, Ted Danson noted that Woody Harrelson doesn’t have a phone. He even joked that the “Hunger Games” star was “one of those bullies in life that make other people carry his phone for him.”

Harrelson quickly clarified that Danson’s jape wasn’t “exactly true,” sharing what really led him to ditching his device three and a half years ago.

“Well, I just don’t like to have, you know, to be readily available to any human being at any time,” he told Danson. “I like to be in touch with people in a way, but I don’t like the appendage on my appendage.”

Harrelson’s sentiment is certainly a relatable one. But it’s his failed attempts to “limit” his screen time that really resonate.

“Back then I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to set this limit. Two hours,’ ” Harrelson reflected. “It’s like 9:30. You know, I’ve already hit my limit at 9:30, so I woke up, and I’ve been on it two hours already because, cuz you know how it can just keep going and going.”

Goodness, how many of us have tried—and failed—to limit our screen time?

Even with little alerts that say “you have five more minutes” on various apps, those alerts are easy to ignore once you do it a couple of times. Another strategy might be putting our phones on “Do Not Disturb” to ward off notifications, or setting it to “Night Mode” so that the screen is less bright and eye-catching. But anecdotally, all of these hacks seem to only do so much.

Harrelson also explained that he would find himself at dinner and and instantly reaching for his phone once there was a lull in the conversation. Who among us hasn’t been guilty of this modern day social faux pas? It even ignited the seemingly short-lived “phone stacking” movement, where friends going out to dinner would all stack their phones on the table, and whoever reached for their device first would have to cover the tab.

Lastly, Harrelson admitted he only ever used the phone to send texts, rather than make phone calls. According to Statista, texting is by far the most common phone activity, followed by emails, app usage, online shopping, internet, etc. Making phone calls didn’t even seem to make the list.

All this to say—phone addiction might not be on the same level as substance addiction, but its addictive qualities are incredibly hard to shake. And this is partially due to the fact that our society enables and encourages phone usage, much in the same way that alcohol is a fully ingrained aspect of our culture.

Paul Graham, famed Silicon Valley investor, notes that often society forms “antibodies” against addictive new things, coming first in the form of a change in public opinion, followed by a change in legislation. He uses the example of smoking, and how it went from being “totally normal” to something “seedy,” and eventually laws were created to match societal change. Even with alcohol we have seen this, with alcohol-free bars even becoming mainstream.

What makes “technology addiction” different, however, is how rapidly it evolves.

“Unless the rate at which social antibodies evolve can increase to match the accelerating rate at which technological progress throws off new addictions, we’ll be increasingly unable to rely on customs to protect us. Unless we want to be canaries in the coal mine of each new addiction—the people whose sad example becomes a lesson to future generations—we’ll have to figure out for ourselves what to avoid and how. It will actually become a reasonable strategy (or a more reasonable strategy) to suspect everything new,” he writes.

So, if our current world really doesn’t offer any buffers between us and our devices, Harrelson’s cold turkey approach does make some sense. Not that his approach is in any way feasible for 99% of us. But still, it offers some food for thought. Without agreed upon collective changes to our phone behavior, what chance does an individual really have of breaking free of this widely common habit? Is the only option to opt out entirely? These are questions thus far without answers. But what an important conversation to have moving forward.

JJ Redick On The Lakers Pursuit Of Dan Hurley Before Hiring Him: ‘I Understood’

redick lakers top
Spectrum Sportsnet

JJ Redick was officially introduced as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday afternoon, as the former NBA sharpshooter turned podcaster and broadcaster will make his first leap into coaching at a high level in one of the most prominent jobs in all of sports, much less basketball.

Redick was considered a favorite for the job early on in the process, but things suddenly changed as the NBA Finals arrived and UConn head coach Dan Hurley became the Lakers top target. Los Angeles’ pursuit of Redick was extremely public, with them reportedly offering him a 6-year, $70 million deal to become the Lakers coach. Hurley turned that down, and they ultimately went back and signed Redick to a deal in the 4-year, $32 million range.

How that whole process went down naturally was a leading topic in Redick’s introductory presser, and for his part, Redick shrugged it off as an understandable pursuit.

“I was getting ready to call Game 1 of the NBA Finals when the Dan Hurley news broke, and Rob was quick to call me, we had a great conversation,” Redick said. “During that whole four-day period, at no point was my ego or feelings hurt or bruised in any way. Dan Hurley is a two-time national champion at UConn. I am a two-time 55 Swish League Champion in the third and fourth grade division. I understood.”

Redick joked about his lack of NBA experience a few times in the presser to varying degrees of success, but in this case he used it to deflect from any controversy around him being Plan B. On the Lakers side, Rob Pelinka insisted Redick was “in our Plan A pool of coaches” and that they communicated what they were doing with him throughout the process.

I must note that while you certainly can have a pool of top candidates, if you make an offer that’s for more years and more money to someone other than the guy you end up hiring, that means they were not Plan A. The biggest issue was the Lakers making it a very public pursuit of Hurley, because that was always going to invite questions like this. In any case, Redick seems fine with it and wasn’t going to let that stand in his way of getting an NBA coaching job like he’s been wanting for a couple years now.

Gunna’s Laid-Back ‘Back In The A’ Video Proves Home Is Where The Heart Is

Gunna’s album One Of Wun, is one of the best hip-hop albums of 2024 so far, and the Atlanta superstar is keeping its momentum going with the video for “Back In The A.” As the title suggests, the contemplative clip finds Gunna back in his hometown (albeit in a hotel room), surrounded by the high-end clothing and accessories for which he’s earned his reputation as one of hip-hop’s most fashion-forward faces.

Gunna just wrapped up his Bittersweet Tour at the State Farm Arena in his hometown — making the release of “Back In The A” even more fitting — and fans were amused to see a familiar face among the fans in attendance. Jeffrey Williams Sr., the father of Gunna’s mentor Young Thug, was front row at the concert, cheering harder than almost anyone after previously defending Gunna from accusations of snitching from former partner-in-rhyme Lil Baby.

“Back In The A” is the third single from One Of Wun, following the March release of “Prada Dem” with Offset and the May release of “WhatsApp (Wassam),” which he dropped to announce the album’s release date.

Watch Gunna’s “Back In The A” video above.

One Of Wun is out now via Young Stoner Life Records / 300 Entertainment.

Where Is Netflix Considering Launching Free Ad-Based Streaming Plans?

Wednesday Jenna Ortega Netflix
Netflix

With every streaming service (and Paramount+ is the latest to announce this) pushing recent price hikes into effect, it’s nice to know where a buck or three can be saved by choosing a plan with ads. Netflix has been dipping its toes into that realm, although its ad-supported tiers have notably had some missing selections that have downgraded the experience for some viewers. However, Netflix also wishes to increase the number of users willing to sit through commercial breaks, so it might perk some ears up to learn that Netflix is considering rolling out a free ad-supported plan in certain nations.

Unfortunately, the United States is not on that list, and according to anonymous sources who spoke to Bloomberg, Netflix “has no plans to offer a free service in the US, where it already reaches a majority of its potential customer base.” The outlet does report, however, that some European and Asian TV lovers could get lucky in that way:

Netflix has discussed creating free versions of its streaming service in some markets, namely in Europe and Asia, as the company looks for more ways to increase its audience, according to people familiar with its plans.

Bloomberg acknowledges that Kenya-based viewers could previously opt for such a plan that no longer exists, and the outlet (which hypothesizes that “Germany or Japan” could be testing grounds) further adds that “[t]here are no current plans to do this anywhere – these are just talks,” so it remains to be seen whether the idea goes anywhere.
