Tommy Richman Maintains His Momentum And Star Power On His New Single, ‘Devil Is A Lie’

Tommy Richman is having a hell of a summer. After years of putting in the work, Richman finally had a breakthrough hit with his addictive pop-R&B fusion track, “Million Dollar Baby.” The single has dominated radio and TikTok, but Richman is no flash in the pan. Tonight (June 14), the hitmaker has shared his new single, “Devil Is A Lie.”

Equally as catchy as “Million Dollar Baby,” Richman’s latest, “Devil Is A Lie” features the singer arriving to newfound assurance, making it known that he’s not going to let anything or anybody stand in his way.

“You got no confidence like me / Only wanna run around and chase me / I’m not no Travis, baby, not no Chase B / I work too hard, can you f*ckin’ pay me?,” Richman sings on the song’s chorus.

Richman put out over 30 songs before finally landing a hit with “Million Dollar Baby.” And now that he’s arrived at the top of the pops, he is happy to reap the fruits of his labor.

“I did so much, you did it with me, and I’m not alone / Since 2019, was dinners with me, I’ma set it in stone / You come from a sunken place again / You know the struggle, baby, can we be friends? / From the bottom to the top began / We go on again, on again,” Richman sings on the song’s second verse.

A Fired Up Taylor Swift Followed The Chiefs’ Super Bowl Ring Ceremony Via IG Live

The Kansas City Chiefs used Thursday night to celebrate their win in Super Bowl LVIII over the San Francisco 49ers. While it’s been a few months since Mecole Hardman caught a touchdown from Patrick Mahomes in overtime to give the Chiefs their fourth Super Bowl in franchise history, the players finally got their rings — which include 529 diamonds and 38 rubies — on Thursday.

It’s a nice ring! One particular Chiefs fan was unable to make it to the event, though, as Taylor Swift is currently in Liverpool ahead of three Eras Tour stops in the United Kingdom this weekend. So while Travis Kelce and co. were getting their rings, Swift was on the other side of the ocean. But thanks to the Instagram account of Hardman’s partner, Chariah Gordon, Swift was able to follow along with the event.

Swift didn’t just watch as the whole thing unfolded. She joined and kept watching Gordon’s IG Live, and even hopped into the comment section a few times to celebrate the Chiefs and the fact that Hardman signed a new contract with the team.

Swift was, of course, a pretty frequent presence at Chiefs games this season due to her relationship with the team’s tight end, Travis Kelce. While she is assuredly bummed she couldn’t make it to this, the good news is she doesn’t have any tour dates scheduled for Sept. 5, which is the day Kansas City will host the Baltimore Ravens to start the NFL season.

Josh Hart And Tyrese Haliburton Trolled Each Other After Hart Made Fun Of Hali’s ‘Trash Fits’ On IG

The New York Knicks and the Indiana Pacers treated us to an incredible, seven-game series in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Eventually, New York’s injury crisis became impossible to overcome, and as a result, the Pacers were able to walk into Madison Square Garden for a Game 7 and pick up an emphatic win.

Indiana ended up getting swept in the conference finals by the Boston Celtics, although they put forth about as spirited of an effort in a sweep as you can, as they were frequently in games until the very end but just got beat. And on Thursday night, Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton — who missed the final two games against Boston due to injury — decided to celebrate the end of the year with a post on Instagram.

It’s about as basic of a professional athlete Instagram post as you’ll see, but Josh Hart had other ideas. Hart, one of the best players on the Knicks during their postseason run, hopped into the comments and prodded Haliburton over his fit in this post, which led to the pair trolling one another during a short back-and-forth.

Both Hart and Haliburton were members of the USA Basketball team that went to the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2023, so we assume they’re cool with one another and this is just two friends having fun at each other’s expense.

Ariana Grande says therapy should be ‘mandatory’ for all child stars

Even in the healthiest of work environments, child actors are thrust into adult life before they’ve really had a chance to grow up. They don’t have the coping mechanisms for dealing with the stresses of fame, nor do they have the skills or authority to advocate for themselves when they are being abused.

The obvious answer to this problem is to provide protections for these kids. But let’s face it: exactly how to go about creating these protections isn’t so obvious. Hollywood is only just beginning to address these long-seated issues.

However, Ariana Grande, certainly no stranger to the highs and lows of finding fame at a young age, recently suggested that one solution would be “mandatory therapy” for younger actors.

Grande, who got her big break on the Nickelodeon show “Victorious” when she was just 14, reflected on her time on the network while guest appearing on Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast.

This interview comes not too long after the shocking revelations made in the docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” where former Nickelodeon stars accused former producer Dan Schnieder of a litany of abuses, including but not limited to sexual harassment and racism.

Grande did not appear on the docuseries, footage from “Victorious” was often used as an example of inappropriate content for children.

“I think that’s something that we were convinced was the cool thing about us,” she reflected during the podcast. “That we pushed the envelope with our humor and innuendos. We were told — and convinced as well — that it was the cool differentiation. It all just happened so quickly and now looking back on some of the clips I’m like, ‘Thats… Damn, really?’”After “reprocessing” a lot of her experience around that time, she came to the conclusion that there should be “mandatory therapy” 2-3 times a week included in a young actors contract.

“There should be an element that is mandatory of therapy, a professional person to unpack what this experience of your life changing so drastically does to you at a young age,” she said, adding that this should probably be used for celebrities of all ages.

In addition, she thinks that “parents [should be] allowed to be wherever they want to be.”

“A lot of people don’t have the support that they need to get through performing at that level at such a young age. But also, dealing with some of the things that the survivors who have come forward [have]… There’s not a word for how devastating that is to hear about. So, I think the environment just needs to be made a lot safer all around.”

60 Sandy Hook survivors graduate high school, sharing complex feelings about the milestone

It’s been nearly 12 years since a young man walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, with an AR-15. rifle and two handguns and opened fire, killing 20 first graders and six faculty members before turning the gun on himself.

Survivors of the Sandy Hook shooting—kids who watched their friends and teachers being murdered in their classrooms—are now graduating from high school, and they have complicated feelings about the milestone and the 20 classmates who aren’t joining them.

A private graduation ceremony was held at Newtown High School on June 12, 2024, with 335 graduates including around 60 Sandy Hook survivors. Some of them shared their thoughts with journalists in the days leading up to graduation.

“I think we’re all super excited for the day,” Lilly Wasilnak, 17, shared with the AP. “But I think we can’t forget … that there is a whole chunk of our class missing. And so going into graduation, we all have very mixed emotions — trying to be excited for ourselves and this accomplishment that we’ve worked so hard for, but also those who aren’t able to share it with us, who should have been able to.”

“The shooter actually came into my classroom,” Emma Ehrens, 17, told CBS News. “So I had to, like, watch all my friends and teachers get killed, and I had to run for my life at six years old.”

According to the AP, Ehrens was one of 11 kids who survived from Classroom 10. She was able to escape with a group of students when the shooter paused to reload his gun. Five students and both teachers in the room were killed.

“I am definitely going be feeling a lot of mixed emotions,” Ehrens said. “I’m super excited to be, like, done with high school and moving on to the next chapter of my life. But I’m also so … mournful, I guess, to have to be walking across that stage alone. … I like to think that they’ll be there with us and walking across that stage with us.”

The survivors who are graduating this year are dealing with both the exciting what ifs of their futures and the tragic what ifs of their past as they remember their slain classmates.

“Just growing up with having the fear, and the what ifs of what could have happened if I stayed? Because I was, like, I was going to be next,” Ehrens told CBS News.

“So even going to prom, you think, well, what if they were my prom date? Or, you know, what if they were my significant other? What if they were able to walk the stage with me,” survivor Ella Seaver added.

“As much as we’ve tried to have that normal, like, childhood and normal high school experience, it wasn’t totally normal,” Grace Fischer, 18, told CBS. “But even though we are missing … such a big chunk of our class, like Lilly said, we are still graduating. … We want to be those regular teenagers who walk across the stage that day and feel that, like, celebratory feeling in ourselves, knowing that we’ve come this far.”

That desire for normalcy conflicting with their not normal childhood is part of what makes graduation such a bittersweet experience for these young people. They had so much taken from them at such a young age, and that trauma doesn’t just disappear. Some of the students expressed that they are looking forward to moving away from Newtown and building a life in which the school shooting doesn’t define them.

Sandy Hook was unique in that the victims were so young and there were so many of them, but the survivors aren’t alone in their experience. In the years since the Sandy Hook massacre, the U.S. has seen dozens more school shootings, and there are thousands of school shooting survivors dealing with related traumas. Many of those survivors have become outspoken anti-gun-violence advocates, pressuring officials to enact stronger laws to keep guns out of the wrong hands.

But for now, the Sandy Hook graduates are celebrating a big life milestone, just as they—and their 20 missing classmates—should be.

Watch six of the Sandy Hook survivors share their stories on Good Morning America:

SNX: This Week’s Best Sneakers, Feat. The Return Of The AF-1 Linen, AJ-4 Oxidized Green, New NOCTAS & More

drake_snx_plane(1600x500)
UPROXX/Getty

Welcome to SNX DLX, your weekly roundup of the best sneakers to hit the internet. This week things are slowing down a bit. We have a short drop list but as has been the case with this entire year, it’s still unbelievably strong. Jordan heads have a lot to look forward to including the women’s exclusive AJ-1 Black and Gorge Green, and the new Jordan 4 Oxidized Green.

Those are dope releases, no doubt, but it’s what else is dropping this week that has be most hyped. Namely, the return of the AF-1 Linen. The sneaker was first dropped as a Japanese exclusive before KITH brought it stateside a few years ago. If you weren’t able to cop a pair during the re-release, you’ve got another chance this week. But those aren’t the only highlights of the week, we’ve got a couple more pairs that we’re sure you’d love to empty your wallets over.

Let’s dive into this week’s best sneakers.

Women’s Air Jordan 1 Low OG Black and Gorge Green

Nike

Price: $140

Looking for a bold Jordan 1 colorway that are sure to demand attention when you walk into a room? Look no further than these Black and Gorge Green Jordan 1s. Featuring a low-profile silhouette, this Jordan 1 sports a luxurious leather build with a cracked leather Swoosh in a strong four-color design.

The sneaker features a white midsole with a green upper and black leather panels, while crimson red accents adorn the laces, outsole, and branding. I’m not sure there is a colorway that indicates we’ve slipped into the summer season more than this one.

The Nike Women’s Air Jordan 1 Low OG Black and Gorge Green is out now for a retail price of $140. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

Nike Air Force 1 Low Linen

Nike

Price: $135

It was hard to put this list together this week because I don’t think a single release holds a candle to the Air Force 1 Linen. This colorway first dropped as a Japan exclusive in 2001 and since then it has been one of the most coveted colorways of the AF-1. We even included it in our Greatest Air Force 1 Colorways of all time!

The sneaker sports a leather upper in light tan with Pink accents at the Swoosh and outsole. It’s simple but looks amazing. I’d say good luck on drop day, but I sincerely hope you catch an L and I pick up the W. Because of that, I probably won’t be so lucky.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low Linen is set to drop on June 13th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $135. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT.

Nike NOCTA Air Zoom Drive Black

Nike

Price: $165

You all still Drake fans? We’re kidding of course, there is nothing wrong with being a Drake fan, but lets be real, the most vital thing Drake has done lately has been his work with Nike. He’s taking the Kanye route, fading out of musical relevance and focusing on shoes. Hopefully his entire career doesn’t take the same trajectory. Again, we’re kidding, I’m sure Drake will release a huge song soon and the whole world will forget how thoroughly Kendrick embarrassed him.

All of that to say is the new Black NOCTA Air Zoom Drive is pretty cool! The sneaker sports a mixed textile and leather upper with an exposed zoom air bag at the heel and reflective underlays. The leather is used sparingly, ensuring the sneaker is lightweight and easy to travel in.

The Nike NOCTA Air Zoom Drive Black is set to drop on June 14th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $165. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Air Jordan 4 Oxidized Green

Nike

Price: $215

The greatest Jordan silhouette — that’s right, I said it — is getting a new colorway! The Oxidized Green features a clean white leather upper with Oxized Green accents throughout and metallic eyelets. I love the combo of white and green but if I had one gripe about this design it would be those metallic eyelets.

Would that stop me from wearing a pair if I was lucky enough to cop? Not a chance.

The Air Jordan 4 Oxidized Green is set to drop on June 15th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $215. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

New Balance

Price: $139.99 (Light Green/Dark Green)

The Italy-based luxury streetwear brand Stone Island is again teaming up with New Balance for a modernized build of the late ‘80s classic, the 574. The sneaker sports a mixed upper that combines a polyester ripstop upper with nubuck overlays and a rubber outsole, with polyester terry lining, and reflective details throughout.

Rounding out the design is Stone Island’s iconic compass logo woven into a patch affixed to the tongue, as well as a compass logo sock liner, and custom packaging. Trevor Lawrence Signed A Monster Extension With The Jaguars Worth $275 Million

trevor lawrence

This off-season has seen a number of stars get paid in the NFL. Most recently, Justin Jefferson became the highest paid non-QB in league history and Jared Goff got a massive new contract from the Lions. One of the last remaining big questions marks in the league as minicamps got underways was whether the Jaguars would lock down Trevor Lawrence.

Many around the league are split on exactly what Lawrence’s value is, as the former No. 1 overall pick has clear talent but has yet to put it all together and hasn’t taken the kinda of strides that indicate he’s ready to breakthrough into the elite QB category. That makes extension talks tricky, because he was always going to ask for money in the same vein as the elite young QBs, despite not quite having the same level of success. On the flip side, he’s clearly good and has the upside still, and the Jaguars aren’t a franchise that wants to hit the reset after building a perennial playoff contender.

As such, the two sides were able to strike a deal that gives Lawrence 5 years, $275 million — the same Joe Burrow got from the Bengals last year — with $142 millions guaranteed at signing and $200 million in practical guarantees, slightly less than Burrow.

That’s a large investment in Lawrence, who threw for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions a year ago. His ability to raise that production, with more investment in the receiving corps around him, will determine how this deal ages. But for Lawrence, he secured his financial future and the Jags leave no doubt who their franchise QB is long-term.

Now, all eyes shift to south Florida, where Tia Tagovailoa is awaiting his extension from Miami and has a new benchmark for negotiations.

‘I’m done with this’: Mom reveals why she deactivated her 11-year-old daughter’s smartphone

The number of teens and tweens who have smartphones is on the rise and we’re starting to see the effects that “great rewiring” has on them. Recent research shows that smartphones can have a very negative effect on girls’ mental health.

After giving her 11-year-old a smartphone about a year ago, Kailey Wood, known as The_GeriatricMillenial on TikTok, deactivated it because she’s seen “firsthand just how detrimental” they are. “So much so that last night, I finally said, ‘I’m done with this,’ and I deactivated my 11-year-old’s phone,” she says in a TikTok video. “And I don’t know when I’m gonna give it back.”

She initially gave her kids phones to keep track of them around the neighborhood, but now she “regrets” the decision. The 37-year-old mother of two from Buffalo, New York, shared her story in a TikTok video viewed over 1.4 million times.

@the_geriatricmillennial

Taking away my 11 year old daughters phone agter having one for a year because its feeling like more negative than positive lately. No opinions needed, parentinf kids in the digital age is hard enough but would love to hear what other parents are doing to maintain their kids independence while also being safe #momofteens #momoftweensgirls #momofdaughters #parentingadvice #teenswithphones #millennialmom #momsover30

Wood was tired of her daughter being in constant conflict with her friends, so she took the phone out of the equation. “Young girls get jealous and don’t think before they text, so they unintentionally hurt their friends’ feelings,” she told Upworthy. “Snapchat and Instagram document their whereabouts and friends feel left out. When that happens, sometimes emotions fuel mean comments and DMs. They’re all totally normal feelings, but if I can prevent drama and conflict longer, then that’s what I’m going to do.”

Wood struggled with the decision because smartphones made it easy for her to contact her daughter when she was at her friends’ houses. They also gave her peace of mind because she didn’t have the phone numbers of some of her friends’ parents.

However, she couldn’t take the constant jealousy and bickering between her daughter and her friends. “I just decided it’s gone too far. I’m done with this; we’re going to have to figure out a new solution,” she said in the video. “Phones and social media … those are a part of the teenage experience now. But at what expense?”

Wood believes that to stop the problem, parents should “band together” to prevent children from getting smartphones until they are at least 14.

Replying to @Eboneytwoees

@the_geriatricmillennial

Replying to @Eboneytwoees

Since the video went viral in April, Wood has had a slight change of heart. She has reintroduced the phone but with a new set of strict rules. “No socials, limited screen time and she’s not allowed to bring it out of the house. So if she goes out, she only has her Apple Watch,” she told Upworthy. “Phones this age at sleepovers or hangouts just take away from the time together.”

The good news is that she has also recruited the parents of her daughter’s friends and they have implemented the same rules.

Wood believes that her strategy is all about making a difficult time in life a bit easier. “My goal is to avoid any social conflicts that social media or group chats unintentionally cause,” she told People. “Being a tween/teen already comes with enough pressure and drama, which leads to more depression/anxiety,”

Wu-Tang Clan’s One-Of-One Album ‘Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’ Has Apparently Been Turned Into An NFT

Wu-Tang Clan
Getty Image

Remember NFTs? It’s okay if you don’t — no one should — but, apparently, no one told PleasrDAO, who now owns Wu-Tang Clan’s one-of-one album, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. You should remember this; the album was recorded in secret over six years, pressed onto one CD copy in 2014, and auctioned for an extravagant amount of money to a person who even RZA regretted giving access to it.

As predicted back when the group of self-declared “DeFi leaders, early NFT collectors, and digital artists” was first revealed to have bought the album from the US government at auction, PleasrDAO has turned the album into an NFT. A representative for the group told Rolling Stone upon its purchase, “This album at its inception was a kind of protest against rent-seeking middlemen, people who are taking a cut away from the artist. Crypto very much shares that same ethos. The album itself is kind of the O.G. NFT.”

… yeah, sure, okay. Move fast, break things, reinvent cable with yourselves at the top. We get it.

According to Consequence, PleasrDAO figured out a loophole in the legal agreement that prevents the album from being commercially exploited until 2103 (of course they did). Each NFT purchase will purportedly speed up the countdown by 88 seconds, although as of now, only a five-minute sampler is available for $1. You can find more information below.
