The Latest ‘House Of The Dragon’ Episode Is Being Review-Bombed After Featuring A Same-Sex Kiss

Sunday’s episode of House of the Dragons is being review-bombed by the Helen Lovejoys of the world for featuring a soap opera-like same-sex kiss.

In the final moments of season 2, episode 6, “Smallfolk,” Rhaenyra (played by Emma D’Arcy) and Mysaria, a.k.a. The White Worm (Sonoya Mizuno), share a smooch after Mysaria reveals details about her past. Both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones have featured far steamier scenes, but this unscripted kiss between two women (D’Arcy is non-binary, but Rhaenyra is identified as a woman) was apparently over the line for many conservative viewers. Why were they watching in the first place? Who knows, but they won’t be anymore.

“Smallfolk” is the show’s lowest-rated episode by IMDb user score with a 5.2 out of 10 (only two other episodes are even below an 8). According to Vanity Fair, the episode has over “35 percent one-star reviews on IMDB, which is equivalent to approximately 9,400 reviews. When filtered by the country, Saudi Arabia and Iraq emerge as the nations that have left the most one-star reviews, with 4,700 coming from Saudi Arabia and 545 coming from Iraq.”

The episode wasn’t a 10 out of 10, but it sure wasn’t a 1, either.

imdb

Review bombing the dragon show is definitely a great use of everyone’s time.

Now, to be fair, the one-star reviews could be unrelated to the kiss (the House of the Dragon subreddit is mad about other things), but that would be a mighty big coincidence. Maybe Aegon and Aemond will kiss in the next episode, and we can find out for sure.

DeMar DeRozan Says Drake’s ‘Still My Man’ After He Appeared In The ‘Not Like Us’ Video

DeMar DeRozan has found himself in the middle of one of rap’s biggest feuds in recent months. DeRozan received a shout-out from Kendrick Lamar in his track “Not Like Us,” then appeared on stage at The Pop Out before a cameo in the music video for the song. Considering it came out as part of Lamar’s feud with Drake, there were plenty of question that came up about DeRozan’s relationship with the Toronto rapper, as the pair grew close during his tenure with the Raptors.

While DeRozan already revealed that he’s had a lengthy relationship with Lamar and considers him “basically family,” the newest member of the Sacramento Kings made clear that he still views Drake as “my man” in an interview with Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee.

“Drake’s still my man, still my man, none of it changed,” DeRozan told Anderson. “It’s so easy to get overlooked and look at it for what it looks like, but at the end of the day it’s music, entertainment. Two of the biggest rappers in the world went at it from a competitive standpoint and they battled it out. That’s what you want to see as a fan: Kobe (Bryant) playing (Michael) Jordan 1-on-1 and see who wins, see the trash talking, and whoever wins out of that, you’re still going to have the debate, so that’s all that is.”

After spending the last three years as a member of the Chicago Bulls, DeRozan joined the Kings as part of a sign-and-trade this offseason. To make the deal happen, Sacramento gave the 6-time All-Star a 3-year deal worth $70 million.

‘You’ Season 5: Everything To Know So Far About The Last Stand For Stalker Joe (Update For July 2024)

you-netflix-jpg.jpeg
Netflix

You began as a relatively unnoticed Lifetime series that turned into an irresistible bingewatch after arriving on Netflix during a holiday season. Years later, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) has cycled through multiple identities and several settings throughout four seasons, and although the most recent season fell prey to inertia, the show’s streaming numbers stayed strong enough (and fans of the series do include Ariana Grande) for Netflix to allow Joe’s story to come to a proper conclusion with a fifth season.

Of course, this series has moved seasons beyond the original source material (Caroline Kepnes’ same-named novel), and a blunt question now exists: should Joe die to bring a fitting end to his reign of terror? If there’s any justice in the TV world, yes, and given Badgley’s early horror at fans thirsting over a killer, he would likely support this development. Sure, Joe will likely get away with a few more murders before that happens, but let’s talk about what is actually known about how this “nice guy” will roll into his old-new town:

Plot

First, let’s go back to where it started for Joe (with a freak out):

Lifetime

And here’s how it’s going with fifth-season Joe back in New York (after stints in LA, Paris, and London) and looking more at ease because he’s not running from the scene of a murder (or is he?) or pretending to be a professor:

Joe will open a new bookshop in Manhattan, and this season will bring at least one ghost, according to Netflix, and since he’s already been haunted by Love, Candace, and Beck, perhaps Benji will return for a turn at mentally torturing Joe. Whatever happens, this season will end at a semi-preplanned place given that executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sara Schechter aimed for five seasons. Additionally, series co-creator Sera Gamble left her showrunner post with scribes Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo taking over those reins.

How will justice be served? If Joe doesn’t end up being trapped by a prospective (or former) victim inside one of his beloved cages, then it’s possible that he would be busted through the efforts of Dr. Nicky (John Stamos) or Marienne (Tati Gabrielle). What is certain, however, is that Badgley is done with sex scenes, and he has suggested that Joe’s “inner monologue” could “evolve,” and he might be working “to accept himself.” Clear as mud.

Cast

Beyond Bad Boy Badgley, it’s likely that we will see the return of previous Joe targets/victims/ghosts, including Beck (Elizabeth Lail), Candace (Ambyr Childers), and Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) before this story concludes. We could also use a good haunting by Joe’s ex-wife/mutual stalker, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), and don’t forget that Dr. Nicky (John Stamos) remains alive, along with Jenna Ortega’s character, Ellie Alves (her return is not confirmed).

The newest collection of characters in Joe’s orbit will include Bronte (Madeline Brewer), “an enigmatic and free-spirited playwright” who will work in Joe’s new bookshop and obviously appeal to his love of those archaic tomes. Joe’s latest wife, Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), will return after helping Joe rehabilitate his image, and Griffin Matthews (The Flight Attendant) will appear as Kate’s socially outcast brother. Finally, Kate’s identical twin sisters (Anna Camp in both roles) will be on hand to stir up sh*t:

“Raegan is the cunning, cutthroat CFO of the Lockwood Corp who has her eyes on the throne and will crush any adversary… be them family or not. Maddie, on the other hand, presents as the unserious twin, a thrice-divorced socialite whose job is ‘vaguely PR.’ But make no mistake, a master manipulator lies underneath Maddie’s frivolous façade.”

Release Date

C’mon, Netflix. They’re being very secretive, other than to suggest that this season will debut in late 2024.

Trailer

The series hasn’t gone into trailer mode yet for this final season, but Penn Badgley suggests that anybody from Joe’s past could show up, including Dr. Nicky (!).

Where (And When) Will ‘The Bikeriders’ Hit Streaming?

the bikeriders
20th century/Focus Features

Did you get a chance to celebrate National Motorcycle Day?! As always, the holiday is celebrated the second Friday in July (obviously) and yet it seems to be overlooked by most. But soon you’ll get a chance to redeem yourself by streaming The Bikeriders and making motorcycle king Norman Reedus proud.

The Bikeriders stars Tom Hardy with another ambiguous accent, Austin Butler, and Reedus as the members of a midwestern motorcycle gang in the ’60s and ’70s. The Jeff Nichols film is based on Danny Lyon’s photo book of the same name, which followed various members of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club.

Butler portrays Benny, a young and eager member of the motorcycle gang led by Johnny (Hardy). The club begins to expand and evolve, and Benny’s loyalty is tested as the gang gets caught up in the gritty and violent underworld.

After a long journey, the movie will stream exclusively on Peacock starting August 9. It’s just enough time to find a good helmet. But wait! There’s more motorcycle fun.

The movie will finally be available for purchase on digital on August 9 and Blu-ray and DVD on August 13. The digital editions will feature exclusive bonus material that includes interviews with the cast, a behind-the-scenes look at production, and a deep dive into writer/director Nichols. This way, you’ll be prepared for National Motorcycle Day next year.

JID’s Manager Jokes His Album Is Never Coming Out After Getting Some Advice From TDE’s Punch

JID
Getty Image

Dreamville fans have been impatiently awaiting the release of JID’s fourth album, Forever & A Day, for almost two years now, after JID announced it in August 2022. Since then, he’s projected and missed at least one release window, fall 2023, after announcing a second project, a joint album with Metro Boomin, was also in the works. And although Metro pledged to release the album sometime this year, reassuring worried fans it was “still a thing” despite his busy schedule, Top Dawg Entertainment President Punch may have ruined fans hopes for a 2024 release after giving JID’s manager, Barry Hefner, his “secret” to success.

Replying to a SZA fan account’s celebratory post about the longevity of the singer’s last album SOS (80 weeks at No. 1 on the Top R&B Albums chart), Punch wrote simply, “Insane.” When Hefner wondered, “what’s your secret?” Punch replied with the strategy that vexed SZA fans (and the artist herself) for the five years between the release of her acclaimed debut CTRL and SOS: “The secret is… hold albums back.”

Hef, who was definitely in on the joke, promised to apply this strategy to the Since The ’80s management roster — which includes JID. “TDE always holding their artists back from being successful..” he responded, citing a common fan complaint about the California label’s unpredictable release schedule. “if this what holding the album back looks like ain’t sh*t coming out over here.” Punch jovially agreed. “JID fans finna get at now.”

So, there you have it, JID fans. Forever & A Day may take that long to come out, and really, you can blame SZA fans for keeping SOS in rotation so long — even as they await its promised follow-up, Lana. This is why they say patience is a virtue.

The Pacers Signed Andrew Nembhard To A New 3-Year Extension

The Indiana Pacers were the most surprising team to make a run to the NBA conference finals this year, and unsurprisingly they have spent the summer bringing back key players from that squad. That started by signing Pascal Siakam to a new max deal, and then brought back Obi Toppin and Aaron Nesmith on long-term deals as well.

That locked up their free agents, and with those three taken care of, Indiana has begun knocking out deals with their extension eligible players. The first to get done is Andrew Nembhard, who has quickly established himself as a key two-way force in the backcourt for the Pacers in his first two years in the league, with Indiana locking him up for the next three years on a deal worth just shy of $20 million per year.

The deal makes sense on both sides, as Nembhard ensures he locks in his first big payday and avoids getting potentially squeezed in free agency next summer — as we’ve seen happen to a guy like Tyus Jones. The Pacers, meanwhile, lock up a guy who has become a starter for them at a rate that’s a bit below starter average, providing some serious value if he continues to grow into that role. The last deal on the list for the Pacers is backup point guard TJ McConnell, coming off one of the best seasons of his career, as Indiana will hope to keep him around long-term given his production on-court and value in the locker room.

The real question for the Pacers next year will be how good this team really is, with other East contenders loading up around them. Running it back makes sense and they haven’t signed anyone to an overpaid deal, which gives them continued flexibility, but next season figures to be a litmus test for where they truly fall in the East’s hierarchy.

Does Timothée Chalamet Sing In The Bob Dylan Movie ‘A Complete Unknown’?

Timothée Chalamet Bob Dylan A Complete Unknown Teaser
YouTube

The first teaser video for the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown was unveiled today (July 24), and in it, we get our first listen of how Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan sounds as he sings “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” from 1963’s The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. Is that actually Chalamet singing, though?

Does Timothée Chalamet Sing In The Bob Dylan Movie A Complete Unknown?

In April 2023, A Complete Unknown director James Mangold said in an interview that Chalamet does do his own singing in the movie. As Vogue notes, in a December 2023 interview, Chalamet said he had recorded some of his vocals for the film and at that point, the soundtrack was about 70 percent done.

Eric Vetro, Chalamet’s vocal coach, also said of Chalamet in October 2023, “He does everything with such a playful air, but there’s always that core of real seriousness where he is gonna nail it. It’s taking on all the characteristics of Dylan’s voice and his mannerisms and his speech patterns, and bringing that into the music — so that when you hear Timothée do the music, what you’re really getting is the essence of Bob Dylan. You’re not getting an impersonation of him. It’s breathing new life into that voice that we know so well.”

Ever wonder why people 100 years ago died so much younger? It’s these 14 reasons.

An English doctor named Edward Jenner took incredible risks to try to rid his world of smallpox. Because of his efforts and the efforts of scientists like him, the only thing between deadly diseases like the ones below and extinction are people who refuse to vaccinate their kids. Don’t be that parent.

Unfortunately, because of the misinformation from the anti-vaccination movement, some of these diseases have trended up in a really bad way over the past several years.

Wellness involves a lot of personal choices and the tradeoff between personal liberty and shared public good.

Measles is the starkest example. There were about 61 cases of measles in all of 2012, but in just the first seven months of 2014, there have been nearly 600.

As this chart shows, vaccinations are not like taxes rates or even freedom of speech. The impact of one’s personal health choices can have a significant impact on the population around them, in their communities and even on a national level. It makes that trade-off all the more complicated and one not easily distilled into one convenient political or religious ideology.

Obviously, the topic of vaccinations has become immensely more complicated since the onset of COVID-19 in 2020. But history teaches us valuable lessons and information is power. No matter how you feel about vaccines today, this chart is a reminder that medical science can be used for incredible good. Without breakthrough vaccinations in the past, many of us would likely not be here to have the debate about our personal choices now and into the future.

Women are shocking their boyfriends by showing them how tampons actually work

Menstrual taboos are as old as time and found across cultures. They’ve been used to separate women from men physically — menstrual huts are still a thing — and socially, by creating the perception that a natural bodily function is a sign of weakness.

Even in today’s world women are deemed unfit for positions of power because some men actually believe they won’t be able to handle stressful situations while mensurating.

“Menstruation is an opening for attack: a mark of shame, a sign of weakness, an argument to keep women out of positions of power,’ Colin Schultz writes in Popular Science.

The big problem with menstrual taboos is the way that males are educated on the subject leaves them with a patchwork of ideas that don’t necessarily add up to the whole picture. First, there’s the information they get from growing up with women in the house.

Then, there are the cryptic descriptions of menstruation seen in advertising and the cold, scientific way the topic is taught in sex education.

“Boys’ early learning about menstruation is haphazard,” a 2011 study published in the Journal of Family Issues reads. “The mysterious nature of what happens to girls contributes to a gap in boys’ knowledge about female bodies and to some negative views about girls.”

Unfortunately, the gaps in the average man’s understanding of a complex female health issue can put women in a difficult position. Whether it’s denying them positions of power or a failure to understand their discomfort.

That’s why it’s so important for men to become better educated about menstruation.

A group of women on TikTok are helping the men in their lives better understand the subject by showing them how tampons work on the inside of their bodies by dousing them in water. They call it the Boyfriend Challenge. Some of the guys’ reactions are clearly over-the-top, but it’s also obvious that many of them have no idea how tampons function.

A video by the Demery family has gone viral attracting nearly eight million views. It’s fun to watch, but it also shows men how tampons function and what women go through during their monthly cycle.

Let’s hope this challenge gave some men out there a better understanding of what women go through every month and a little more sympathy for the women in their lives.

Hopefully it also makes them feel a little more comfortable around period products and inspires them to pick up the correct box of tampons next time they’re at the grocery store.

5-year-old gave his mom advice for handling nerves. It was both adorable and spot-on.

Any parent knows that kids can be surprisingly astute little philosophers at the most unexpected times. One minute your child is throwing a tantrum because you sliced their sandwich wrong, and the next they are blowing you away with their deep preschool thoughts. It’s enough to give you whiplash, but it’s also one of the most fun things about being around kids. You never know what they’re going to say and sometimes what they say is just awesome.

Case in point: This 5-year-old who gave his mom some sage advice about handling her nerves.

Twitter user @Eprecipice (StressieBessie) shared the story in a tweet thread. She wrote:

“When talking about our agendas for the day, I told my 5yo I was a little nervous about a meeting I have today. He said, ‘Mama, I am nervous all the time. I know what to do.’ So friends, here is all the advice he could fit into the drive to school:”

1. “You gotta say your affirmations in your mouth and your heart. You say, ‘I am brave of this meeting!’ , ‘I am loved!’, ‘I smell good!’ And you can say five or three or ten until you know it.”

Okay, first of all, the fact that this kiddo knows what affirmations are is awesome. Some people have questioned whether this advice really came from a 5-year-old because of the vocabulary, but kids are sponges and affirmations aren’t rocket science. It’s become quite common for preschools and kindergartens to teach kids things like this, so it’s not actually surprising to hear him talk about affirmations. It’s just adorable to hear the ones he suggests.

2. “You gotta walk big. You gotta mean it. Like Dolly on a dinosaur. Because you got it.”

Okay, so this actually is sound advice. Researcher Amy Cuddy gave a whole TED Talk about how our minds respond to our own body language, and how using confident body language can actually release chemicals in our brains that make us feel more powerful and self-assured. So “walk big” like you mean it is legit.

3. “Never put a skunk on a bus.”

No idea what this means, but it’s definitely solid wisdom.

4. “Think about the donuts of your day! Even if you cry a little, you can think about potato chips!”

I’m genuinely not sure if this is referencing real donuts or not, which is part of what makes it delightful advice. Metaphorically, “the donuts of your day” could be the positive things that happened, and focusing on those instead of the negative is basic positive thinking. Then again, if you cry and think about potato chips, perhaps he’s just referencing comfort with food. Either way, totally feeling it.

5. “You gotta take a deep breath and you gotta do it again.”

Pretty much every therapist from every psychological school of thought will tell you that breathing exercises are one of the quickest ways to calm your body and mind. Simple, but seriously sound advice.

6. “Even if it’s a yucky day, you can get a hug.”

Even though that sounds like a pretty typical thought for a kid, it’s also good well-being advice. According to The Conversation, the chemicals released when we hug can help us manage stress, reduce anxiety and manage our emotions.

Smart kid.

He added one more piece of advice for good measure as well for those of us who tend toward distraction.

Like a little Confucius, this one.

Seriously, if you ever want to hear some of the most oddly profound things you’ll ever hear in your life, spend some time interviewing a 4- or 5-year-old. They really do say the darnedest things. And if you’re nervous about something, just keep telling yourself you’re “brave of” it. If nothing else, it’ll bring a smile to your face remembering this delightful thread.
