The song of the summer debate is ongoing. But folks online (including Rihanna) have made a strong argument for GloRilla’s catchy bop, “TGIF.”

Just when you thought the song couldn’t get any more addictive, the track made its way into a local newsroom. Yesterday (July 12), GloRilla took to Instagram to reveal a hilarious remake of the record with everyone’s favorite weatherman, Nick Kosir.

“It’s 7 pm Friday & here’s da forecast from me & my guy, Nick Kosir 😂🔥,” she wrote.

In the clip, the Fox anchor put his own professional spin on GloRilla’s smash single and forecast reporting will never be the same.

“I ain’t got no sunburn / cause I got sunscreen on me / I’ma show my forecast / For the rest of the week / How are we gonna cool off / In this kind of heat / Turn on all the fans / Turn on the ac / Turn down all the blinds / Cause it’s hot and sticky / 60 percent chance that a cold front will advance / Til then its hots as Hades / Now let’s hit this dance,” he rapped.

Watch the full video below.

This isn’t Nick Kosir’s first time incorporating trendy tracks into his onscreen appears. But his spin on GloRilla’s “TGIF” is just divine alignment.

Apparently, Ice Spice and Central Cee’s plan to ride off into the lover’s sunset hasn’t been smooth sailing for everyone involved. The “Did It First” collaborators’ rumored romance is currently under fire. But it appears Ice Spice wants all the smoke.

Yesterday (July 12), Central Cee’s ex-girlfriend and media personality, Madeline Argy, slammed the pair’s coupling while alleging it is all a part of a “marketing scheme.” Argy posted a photo of herself surrounded by guns in her Instagram Stories, captioned: “Me rn.”

Today (July 13), Ice Spice took to her official X (formerly Twitter) to seeming issue a subtle response of her own. “Ain’t trippin da grip in my purse,” she captioned a photo of her and Central Cee.

Yesterday, in a series of video posted on TikTok, Madeline Argy outlined when she learned that her former boo, Central Cee and Ice Spice were supposedly an item.

According to Madeline Argy, after she learned Central Cee sent Ice Spice his personal vehicle as transport to the studio, she didn’t know where they stood. “I was with you guys knees deep in that comment section asking if we were still together,” she said. “I tried to have a conversation with him, but all he kept saying was, ‘Alright.’”

She then accused Central Cee after using their couple’s trip to further fuel his “marketing scheme” as a way to roll out his collaboration with Ice Spice.

The new generation of rap fans’ go-to Houston representative is Megan Thee Stallion. But long before the H-town hottie was a household name, Bun B held it down for the cultural capital of the South. The “In My Trunk” rapper and mogul continues to serve his city.

Yesterday (July 12), Bun B and his restaurant Trill Burgers teamed up with grocery chain Kroger gave away 500 burgers to Houston residents impacted by Hurricane Beryl. Despite the wide net power outages, Bun B and dozens of volunteers were able to prepare and disturb the hot meal at Bethel’s Family Church.

Users online praised Bun B and his teams’ efforts to aid in the city’s recovery efforts.

“He puts the ‘Human’ in humanitarian!! Need more like him,” penned one user.

“The epitome of what a businessman should look like. The marketing is top tier, and he cares for the community because he views himself as part of the community… and them burgers GOOD lol 👏🏽 👏🏽,” wrote another.

“Texans taking care of each other,” chimed another.

“Bless them. Way to go, Texas. Take care of your own citizens first,” added another.

Today (July 13), Bun B is back at it. This afternoon Trill Burgers will give out 713 burgers and 713 bottles of water at Houston Galleria, thanks to the continued support of Kroger, and new donors Levi’s and Lone Star Tents & Events.

Harry Styles And Stevie Nicks Paid Tribute To Christine McVie With A Surprise Duet At BST Hyde Park 2024

Fleetwood Mac is now more. But, the public and former group member’s love for the band’s late keyboardist, Christine McVie, remains strong. So strong that yesterday (July 12), Stevie Nicks performed a tribute to McVie during her set at BST Hyde Park 2024.

In front of the packed London crowd, Nicks decided to have a beloved British singer join her for the honors. As a complete shock to the audience, Harry Styles took to the stage to deliver a moving duet of “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” and “Landslide.”

It has been nearly two years since McVie’s shocking death. But the duo’s performance wasn’t about remembering the approaching anniversary of her passing. Instead, Stevie Nicks and Harry Styles set out to honor what would’ve been McVie’s 81st birthday (July 12).

As the show closed, Nicks delivered a touching speech in her late friend and bandmate’s memory.

“At the end of the show, since the end of last year and since Christine passed away, I would say something about her,” she said. “I asked Harry to do this with me, and it’s a lot to ask someone to sing a heavy song about a best friend that died so suddenly and so sadly.”

The crowd fearlessly cheered on Nicks to show their support as she made the touching remarks.

These Are The Groups For The 2024 NBA Cup

nikola jokic luka doncic
Getty Image

If you missed it, the In-Season Tournament is no longer going by that name. From this point forward, the event is called the NBA Cup, and on Friday night before the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers squared off at Summer League in Las Vegas, we learned which teams will play in which groups for the 2024 edition of the event.

Here’s how the groups break down:

Western Conference

Group A

Minnesota Timberwolves
Los Angeles Clippers
Sacramento Kings
Houston Rockets
Portland Trail Blazers

Group B

Oklahoma City Thunder
Phoenix Suns
Los Angeles Lakers
Utah Jazz
San Antonio Spurs

Group C

Denver Nuggets
Dallas Mavericks
New Orleans Pelicans
Golden State Warriors
Memphis Grizzlies

Eastern Conference

Group A

New York Knicks
Orlando Magic
Philadelphia 76ers
Brooklyn Nets
Charlotte Hornets

Group B

Milwaukee Bucks
Indiana Pacers
Miami Heat
Toronto Raptors
Detroit Pistons

Group C

Boston Celtics
Cleveland Cavaliers
Chicago Bulls
Atlanta Hawks
Washington Wizards

Every group has something interesting in it, but nothing sticks out quite like Group C in the Western Conference, which has the potential to be a bloodbath if the Grizzlies are able to return to their 2022-23 form. It’s the clear-cut Group of Death, and while the Eastern Conference doesn’t really have anything quite as bad, Group A — which will feature a rematch of last season’s instant classic playoff series between the Knicks and the Sixers — has the potential to be a joy.

03_snx_heatwave(1024x450) (1)
Uproxx

Welcome to SNX DLX, your weekly roundup of the best sneakers to hit the internet. July 2024 will go down as the single weakest month for sneaker releases of the year and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t shocked. Generally, January takes the title of weakest in any given year. The holiday money is all spent, a portion of the sneakerhead audience has probably been gifted a pair of new shoes, and a new sneaker year starts to take shape.

But by July? Brands should be firing on all cylinders. We’re more than halfway through the year, we’re supposed to be swimming through an ocean of new releases! I’m sure you know what I’m getting at — this week is disappointing to say the least. Yes, there are a handful of pairs worth picking up, but if you want to sit this week out and save your money for a better week, that wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Bear with us fellow sneakerheads, we’re sure things will pick up again soon. For now, here are this week’s best sneaker drops.

Union x Nike Field General Sp Ivory and Light Orewood Brown

Nike

You’re probably seeing this release and thinking that I massively underplayed the significance of this week’s releases but let’s be fair here, this sneaker initially dropped two weeks ago, and while I’ll agree that it’s a dope spin on the Field General, it isn’t exactly new.

This collaboration with Union is getting a SNKRS release this week, which will give people a second chance to pick up a pair if they missed the first drop. This version of the Field General features a mixed textile, synthetic leather, leather, and suede upper with Union branding on the midsole and tongue.

The outsole features a grippy thread that points to this silhouette’s history as a football field staple.

The Union x Nike Field General SP Ivory and Light Orewood Brown is set to drop on July 10th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $120. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

New Balance 1000 Silver Metallic With Raincloud

New Balance

Price: $149.99

Did someone not give us the memo that it’s silver shoe week? This sleek silver beauty takes the 1000 silhouette — which was just reintroduced from the NB archives — and streamlines it with a polyurethane and ABZORB midsole, sculpted details, reflective accents, and a mesh and synthetic build.

No, it’s not one of New Balance’s Made in USA or Made in UK premium offerings, but let’s just call it out right now — it looks better than the Nike Air Max Plus TNPO.

The New Balance 1000 Silver Metallic with Raincloud is set to drop on July 10th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $149.99. Pick up a pair at New Balance or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

Uproxx Music 20: Teenear Stands Firm On Her Individuality On The Evolved ‘Never Met A Me’

Teenear Uproxx Music 20 post image
Merle Cooper/Roo The Shooter

Allow Teenear to introduce the new and more evolved version of herself to the world. The Miami singer concluded last month with the release of her debut album Never Met A Me, a project over a decade in the making. “Never Met A Me honestly feels like a re-introduction of myself to the world,” she said about the album which features 12 songs and a guest appearance from Rick Ross. “It’s me finally standing in the essence of who I truly am, and it represents what I feel like is my bigger purpose right now. The music – it exudes confidence. It’s for the girls, it’s for the lovers, it’s for the hard workers… It’s for the ones that truly know how to feel.”

Teenear takes comfort in her individuality throughout Never Met A Me. She relishes in the freedom to be the woman she desires to be on the shimmering “Moment” with Rick Ross while the epic “Outside!” champions self-love as she hits the town with friends for an exciting girls’ night out. Teenear also uses this same confidence in her approach to love, like on “Stay Home” where she questions her partner’s inability to match her energy during a night of fun. Teenear’s heart also burns bright on the passionate “Waste No Time” and “Ride” where she blissfully falls into a deep love. Never Met A Me is uniquely Teenear, making for a moving introduction that will leave a lasting impression.

Just a couple weeks removed from the release of Never Met A Me, we caught up with Teenear to highlight her and the project for this week’s Uproxx Music 20 column. Scroll down to read more about the Miami singer’s inspirations, influences, and aspirations.

See Previous UPROXX MUSIC 20 Interviews:

What is your earliest memory of music?

I feel like it was the moment that I sang “Silver and Gold” by Kirk Franklin for my entire church congregation at an extremely young age. For me, that was a moment that was enlightening not only for music itself, but also my spirituality.

Who inspired you to take music seriously?

Honestly for me, it was the moment all of the girls at my school were going crazy over Justin Bieber and I didn’t know who he was yet. I’ll never forget going home and researching him for hours on my bed, and I came across a contest he was doing to write to one of his instrumentals. That was the moment that sparked the love in me to create music. It became an outlet for me to express myself, and I fell in love with it.

Do you know how to play an instrument? If so, which one? If not, which instrument do you want to learn how to play?

I know how to finesse playing the piano… sometimes [laughs]. But one day, I would truly love to learn how to really play it.

What was your first job?

Gardening was truly the first time I ever got paid for working for real, but at the same time it kind of felt like a hobby because I truly enjoyed it! It was for an organization called “Health in the Hood” and we would plant food to give out to the community!

What is your most prized possession?

I don’t really think I have a physical object that I would claim to be my “most prized possession.” The only thing I can think of to measure up to that title would be my family! I feel like at the end of the day. I’m truly nothing without them and I’m constantly protective over them because I know they’re constantly protective over me! I feel like family is so important.

What is your biggest fear?

I don’t really like speaking on fears because they always say your biggest fear will come upon you! So I keep that between me and God, and I won’t let it come out of my mouth.

Who is on your R&B Mt. Rushmore?

Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, and Beyoncé! Iconic, if I could throw Rihanna in 1000% would!

You get 24 hours to yourself to do anything you want, with unlimited resources: What are you doing? And spare no details!

One side of me really wants to give you a great political answer, but the truth is… and my honest answer is… I would want to be dropped off at an island that has everything I need to survive 24 hours alone. No phone, just my Bible, a digital camera, a whole bunch of skincare, and food! I would still want the island to be luxurious, just super ducked off. That would truly be ideal. 24 hours of pure relaxation and no outside noise would be beautiful.

What are your three most used emojis?

Emoji number one is 100% ✨ because I gotta put a little bit of sparkle into everything I say! Two and three are 🙏🏾 and 🫶🏽 because God is too good, and I love spreading love!

What’s a feature you need to secure before you die?

Beyoncé, 1000%. no explanation needed!

If you could appear in a future season of a current TV show, which one would it be and why?

I would love to be in Law & Order: SVU! That is my show! I feel like there are a few moments in life that I could see myself crying over, and that would 100% be one of them!

Which celebrity do you admire or respect for their personality and why?

I would have to say Cardi B! She came into the music industry completely herself and has stayed herself throughout the past years, and I think that is something I truly respect! The internet comes with a lot of opinions and if you allow it to, it can make you want to sensor a lot of things in your life.

Share your opinion on something no one could ever change your mind about.

Dark chocolate being the best type of chocolate there is. Milk chocolate is way too sweet and tastes fake. White chocolate is literally fake because a cocoa bean is brown, make it make sense… that’s just sweet Milk. Dark Chocolate is the only way to go because that’s how it was supposed to be. Why did anyone have to try and alter what’s already perfection?

What is the best song you’ve ever heard in your life and what do you love about it?

I’m gonna have to say my song, “Never Met A Me”. That song truly embodies the essence of who I am and sparks a joy and self-confidence within me everytime I hear it.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform, and what’s a city you’re excited to perform in for the first time?

I’m not sure what my favorite city in the world to perform at is just yet, I feel like I have a lot of places to explore still! But I 100% need to perform in Tokyo one day! Anywhere in Japan honestly — I feel like that would be so much fun and I’m looking forward to that one day!

You are throwing a music festival. Give us the dream lineup of 5 artists that will perform with you and the location where it would be held.

First and foremost, I think it would only be right to have it be held in Miami! The lineup is hard… I think I would make it in all girls festival, sorry to my boys, but girls are definitely taking over. I’d say Beyoncé, Victoria Monét, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, and my last is… I feel like I’d be doing myself a disservice to not say Mariah Carey. I think that’s a good mix of the music I listen to right now.

What would you be doing now if it weren’t for music?

I’d most likely be acting! I actually really started in theater as a child and that is another love of mine, and I plan on getting back to that one day! But I think I would lean more towards film rather than theater at this point in my life.

If you could see five years into the future or go five years into the past, which one would you pick and why?

I would definitely go to the future! The past is in the past, and the past all happened for a reason! The past is what built me into who I am today, so I have no regrets. I would love to see what God has in store for me in the future, and keep on moving forward.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

I would definitely tell my 18-year-old self to love herself a little bit more! Wake up every day and ask God to allow you to view yourself how he views you! And believe in every dream/vision God has placed in your heart!

It’s 2050. The world hasn’t ended, and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

I think it would be most important to me that the music is remembered as a light! I would love to just be remembered as a light! I truly aspire to walk into every room and leave behind a positive feeling, a feeling of love, a feeling of happiness and feeling of joy!

Never Met A Me is out now via Slip N Slide Records. Find out more information here.

The Best New Hip-Hop This Week

Action Bronson, Common, and Eminem(1024x450)
Getty Image/Merle Cooper

The Best New Hip-Hop This Week includes albums, videos, and songs from Action Bronson, Common, and Eminem.

It’s been a great year so far for fans of dense lyricism and wordy raps (“real hip-hop,” so to speak), and this week might be the greatest glut of rhyme-forward hip-hop that’ll make you think yet.

Eminem continued the rollout for his new album with the video for “Tobey,” a killer display of lyrical technique featuring BabyTon and Big Sean.

Ice Spice brought her NY drill sound full circle, linking up with one of the UK’s hottest rising stars, Central Cee, for “Did It First.”

LL Cool J announced the release of his first album in over a decade with a cool new Q-Tip production on “Passion.”

And Veeze continued his Midwestern expansion, teaming up with Rylo Rodriguez in the video for the boastful “F.A.F.

Here is the best of hip-hop this week ending July 12, 2024.

Albums/EPs/Mixtapes

Action Bronson — Johann Sebastian Bachlava The Doctor

Action Bronson

Action Bronson’s off-the-wall stream of consciousness results in some of the most absurdly funny non sequiturs ever uttered. For instance, on “Shadow Realm,” he says, “Bitches try to say I give off Rocky vibes / The one from Philadelphia / I’m sicker than Tom Hanks in Philadelphia.” Which is pretty hilarious, but also sounds weirdly cool — a microcosm of Bronson’s style as a whole.

Blu & Evidence — Los Angeles

Blu

A part of my brain can’t shake the feeling that Blu has already released an album called Los Angeles… but I’m not going to begrudge the homie for dipping into that particular well again. After all, talking about the motherland has proven to be fertile territory for the San Pedro native — and his latest is no exception. Evidence plays the producer here to neck-snapping effect, and guests like Nana, Propaganda, and Self Jupiter acquit themselves well, representing the city well.

Common & Pete Rock — The Auditorium, Vol. 1

Common

Perhaps the project I have been most excited for since learning about it late last month, The Auditorium sorta represents the Platonic ideal for aging gracefully in hip-hop. For around 20 years, Common has been as much the avatar for Golden Age “conscious” rappers as anything else (he’s who you picture when someone says those words, admit it), and yet, where those terms suggest a crotchety, stultified image of a has-been artist well past his prime, Common’s instead as vital and relevant as you might have expected at the height of those gilded days of rap excellence. Nothing dusty here.

Eminem — The Death Of Slim Shady

Eminem

I’ll say this for Eminem: He has never lost the love for the art, even if he seems not to love most of what his contemporaries have been dropping lately (although he does have some praise for Kendrick, J. Cole, Lil Wayne, and Joyner Lucas – stop laughing!). As a concept album, The Death Of Slim Shady may not rise to the heights we’ve seen from the format, but Em goes for it, even going as far as shadowboxing his alter ego on “Guilty Conscience 2.” Also, JID is here, and Em shares the spotlight with his latest Shady protégé, Ez Mil.

Jay Worthy & Dām Funk

Jay Worthy

Just when you thought the West Coast celebration was starting to settle down, another Compton native (there’s a lot of us, huh) pops out with another decedent of the Parliament sound, to keep the gangsta party going. Get your walk on to this.

$NOT — Viceroy

$NOT

The South Florida native returns with his first project since 2022’s Ethereal. His antisocial, dark style has evolved without losing its edgy, anxious core. Only one other artist, Cochise, appears here to assist him, but $NOT is more than capable of carrying the other 16 tracks himself.

Singles/Videos

BossMan Dlow — “PJ” Feat. Lil Baby

The breakout Florida star maintains his early 2024 momentum with a raucous banger featuring a resurgent Lil Baby. “I came a long way from lunch trays and eatin’ rice,” he boasts. “Phone ain’t got no service, I’m on a PJ, shootin’ dice / Went from fifty dollars to my name to 50K a night / You wanna f*ck with Big Za, baby? You can’t be scared of heights.” That’s fly.

Deante Hitchcock — “Rainclouds”

The Atlanta native takes some time from his hectic schedule to compare his life to the social media highlights posted by his peers and wonder why this bugs him so darn much. Deante’s unflinching introspection is one of the reasons I tabbed him to be one of the city’s breakout stars, and I still maintain that he’s someone we should all be keeping our ears open for.

Fat Joe — “Outta Control” Feat. Remy Ma

Over the years, Fat Joe has swung dramatically from his backpacker, D.I.T.C. persona, his glossy hitmaker one, and the infamous “Joe Crack” street rapper. “Outta Control” juggles an intriguing balance of the three, with a menacing beat buttressing some semi-convincing tough talk delivered in a decidedly slicker rhythm than, say, an Uncle Murda or a Maino. Remy comes through with an instant classic verse, and suddenly I’m hoping this presages a Plata O Plomo sequel.

Jae Skeese — “Situated” Feat. Sauce Walka & Big KRIT

I was sold on the features alone, but that beat, and the 1970s grindhouse intro on the music video, kept me locked in.

MC Lyte — “King King” Feat. Queen Latifah

No sooner had I ruminated on the possibility of new projects from the slew of rap pioneers I caught live at Hollywood Bowl with The Roots than this landed on my timeline on Tuesday. Lyte and Latifah teaming up is something that just doesn’t happen enough. As a dry run, this is a tantalizing sample of the potential of such a project — especially one supported by such creative powerhouses as The Roots.

Mustard — “Pray For Me”

Mustard raps! The Long Beach producer always sounds great when he samples gospel, and on this latest single from his upcoming album Faith Of A Mustard Seed, he conversationally supplicates to a higher power for both blessings and grace. There are no lyrical miracles, but it gets the job done.

YG — “Stupid” Feat. Lil Yachty & Babyface Ray

The rollout for YG’s Just Re’d Up 3 continues. This time, he brings in Michigan Boy Boat and one of his closest collaborators for some additional support as he drops off another post-hyphy gangsta rap banger.

Jalen Brunson Cut The Knicks A Deal On A New $156 Million Deal That Saves The Team $13 Million Per Year

jalen brunson new york knicks
Getty Image

The New York Knicks busy offseason continued on Friday as they locked up their best player, Jalen Brunson, on a new 4-year, $156.5 million contract extension.

By signing this summer instead of next year, Brunson saved the Knicks nearly $13 million per year across the life of the deal compared to the 5-year designated player max he could’ve signed in 2025 — which would’ve made him $113 million more total (but with an extra year).

That’s a generous move from the star to help the Knicks navigate the cap and apron restrictions going forward with their star-studded roster that now features Mikal Bridges after a blockbuster trade and saw OG Anunoby sign for just under the max this summer. Having stars willing to take a bit less is going to be key with the second apron penalties for teams maintaining the ability to keep rosters together.

Brunson is coming off of the best season of his career, averaging career bests with 28.7 points and 6.7 assists on 48/40/85 shooting splits, leading New York to the second round of the playoffs despite numerous key injuries. The Knicks hope they have built a legitimate contender around Brunson with their offseason moves, and Brunson clearly believes in this team’s championship potential by cutting the Knicks a bit of a deal by signing this contract now rather than pushing for the absolute most he could make next summer.

Daisy Edgar-Jones Had To Explain ‘Brat Summer’ To Millennial And ‘Twisters’ Co-Star Glen Powell

This summer, there are only three moods: Brat Summer, Rat Summer, and Hat Summer, and unfortunately, the three cannot intersect. Since Glen Powell is obviously celebrating Hat Summer, he hasn’t been made aware of the other two. Luckily, his Gen Z Twisters co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones has got his back.

During an interview with Hits Radio, the concept of Brat Summer was brought up, obviously, to which Edgar-Jones eagerly responded, “Oh my gosh, yes, it is a brat summer,” a response that left Powell extremely confused.

Powell claimed he had “Never heard this term before. Ever.” Which means he doesn’t know if he’s So Julia or not! Edgar-Jones replied, “I don’t know where you’ve been, because it’s really—it’s a big deal,” she told him. “There’s green everywhere you look.”

Apparently Powell has been too busy doing his job acting that he hasn’t noticed Shrek green everywhere. “In South Africa, I don’t think it’s brat summer there, I think it’s sort of more winter,” he replied. Since he’s an emerging weather expert, maybe we should believe him on this one.

The actor is likely in the middle of shooting Huntington, a crime thriller directed by Emily The Criminal‘s John Patrick Ford. The movie also stars Margaret Qualley, Ed Harris, and hopefully Brisket.

Twisters hits theaters on July 19th.
