James Wan’s imagination knows no bounds between the horrors of The Conjuring,Insidious, and Saw franchises, and his periodic visits to television are now taking a new turn with Teacup. This Peacock series further hails from producers including Wan/Atomic Monster, Ian McCullough, Michael Clear, and E.L. Katz, who of course are some of the minds behind The Haunting of Bly Manor, M3GAN, Archive 81, and more.
In addition to those behind the subject matter, this series will star Yvonne Strahovski, who is of course familiar to Handmaid’s Tale and Dexter viewers, but also Scott Speedman, who appeared in an immensely unsettling home invasion film, 2008’s The Strangers. While speaking about the film at the most recent San Diego Comic-Con, Speedman declared that he did feel those same vibes while working on Teacup, so let’s dig into what’s been revealed.
Plot
Robert McCammon’s Bram Stoker Award-nominated and New York Times-bestselling Stinger serves as the backbone for this story that will take place over 48 hours. Via Hollywood Reporter, the book has been stripped down to focus upon minimal characters, including a family that, said Speedman, is moving through a stressful set of circumstances before and during the story.
According to the film’s synopsis, Teacup “follows a disparate group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive.” Co-executive producer Ian McCullough pointed towards the story’s minimalism, adding that “[we] focus on the characters and the predicament they’re going through, but we don’t need to fill it out with a bunch of stuff we don’t need.” Wan alternately described the series as both “meditative” but also “so big and scary.”
Will there be gore? Yvonne Strahovski revealed that a specific prosthetic “genuinely made me feel sick.” Additionally, she admitted to have expected a less emotionally strenuous experience than Handmaid’s Tale but that this undertaking wasn’t as simple as she imagined that it would be. From every hint thus far, however, this series won’t last nearly as long as her time on Handmaid’s Tale, so perhaps a romcom (or a nice trip to the beach) will be in order for her next for some stress relief.
Cast
The Teacup cast includes Yvonne Strahovski (Handmaid’s Tale, Dexter), Scott Speedman (The Strangers, Grey’s Anatomy), and Chaske Spencer (The English) along with Kathy Baker and Boris McGiver.
Release Date
Teacup will debut on October 10 with two episodes and two more each week until October 31.
Trailer
A few options already surfaced. In the first, some ominous teacup patterns tell us nothing, but in the second, second, hellish farmhouse events begin.
Every single week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.
This week, the results are semi-skewed due to numerous AMC series landing on Netflix for the first time, meaning that viewers now have (and are seizing) the opportunity to binge the heck out of these titles. So, be prepared for strong representation there.
This George R.R. Martin-produced crime drama qualifies as a sleeper series that I highly recommend binging at some point. (Mostly) Native American writers are doing the thing here with Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee book series and the two 1970s Navajo cops (at a remote area near Monument Valley) who embark upon apparently unrelated crimes including a double murder case. In the process, they see things that make them think twice about their spiritual beliefs.
9. Mayfair Witches – AMC series streaming on Netflix
Anne Rice fans are already more than sated with the Interview With The Vampire reboot series, which is actually much better than the movie, especially when it comes to the (non-closeted) dynamic of Louis and Lestat. Then a bonus arrived with Rice’s Mayfair Witches, which isn’t as compelling as its predecessor, but how can the author’s fans resist giving Alexandra Daddario a TV whirl while she’s portraying the heir to a witchy dynasty? That’s right, they cannot.
Netflix might have an enormous hat filled with A-listers, and they might — maybe — draw names at random to fill their endless supply of feature films. This time, sticks were pulled by Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg, who portray ex-high school sweethearts that aren’t on entirely terrible terms. That is, until the star of Catwoman rolls in and pulls the former Marky Mark into an espionage adventure (what a terrible date idea).
7. Alien – 20th Century Fox film streaming on Hulu
Alien: Romulus (starring Cailee Spaeny) is currently riding high in theaters, so naturally, heading back to where cinematic Xenomorph domination began is also on trend. Sigourney Weaver is nothing less than iconic as Ripley, to the point where the franchise later cloned the character in order to bring her back from the dead. You deserved better, Ripley, and so did Newt at the beginning of Alien 3. Yet the time is always right to revisit the franchise’s initial chestburster moment and remember what it was like to behold the shocking scene for the first time.
6. Kevin Can F**k Himself – AMC series streaming on Netflix
That 2021 series starring Annie Murphy is a tough but intoxicating pill to swallow as a satire to sitcoms like King of Queens (which stars Kevin James as, you know, a Kevin). However, the Kevin in this AMC show isn’t simply an annoying, sexist, and schlubby dude who is married to a beautiful and smart woman, Allison. He’s also emotionally abusive, controlling, and manipulative, and — did we mention that this gets dark? — and Allison decides that he must die. This series is actually so addictive that it prompted questions of whether a third season is possible. It’s the Netflix Effect.
This show has received plentiful comparisons to Euphoria but set in London’s financial sector. Succession comparisons also exist and are based upon the cutthroat nature of this industry and the glossy sheen of this story that is awash with morphing power dynamics. On a surface level, the latter comparisons make sense. These characters are also young, clever, messy, and money-motivated, but writing off Industry as an imitator would do a disservice, especially as it looks to level up and expand its horizons by throwing new challenges at its characters. That is to say: do not sleep on Industry‘s new season. Read our review here.
This show has put a new twist on superpowers while shining light on sickle cell disease and and the social issues tied to its suffering. To add to the unusual premise, the show also featuring superpowers humans with run-of-the-mill lives, blue-collar jobs, and relationship problems galore. Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo, Nadine Mills, Eric Abrefa, Josh Tedeku, and Calvin Demba fill out the core cast in this series that is written, created, and co-directed by Rapman (real name Andrew Onwubolu). The characters are well-rounded, the entertainment value is high, and the series is just right for The Boys fans who are looking for another atypical take on “heroes” while waiting for more Gen V and Invincible.
Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Ritu Arya, and Justin H. Min are bidding their final farewell to the audience of this beloved show based upon Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comic book. Actually, this season goes beyond the source material for a last apocalyptic hurrah, which is even more complicated to solve than usual because the group has lost their powers. That’s actually Allison’s fault, but nobody can accuse the show of taking a stale approach since every season has amped up the oddball nature of this series. Hargreeves siblings, you will be missed.
Producer Bill Lawrence follows up his Ted Lasso domination with this adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s cult-favorite and bestseller novel of the same name. And when the tech giant’s streaming service needed a protagonist who is fast talking and doesn’t take himself seriously, they knew who to call. Vince Vaughn is here to finally make you forget about his season of True Detective as Andrew Yancy, a former cop-turned-health-inspector who becomes involved in a mystery investigation that could right his career, or not. The series also stars Rob Delaney, Jodie Turner-Smith, L.Scott Caldwell, Michelle Monaghan, and Alex Moffat. Keep your eyes peeled for Zach Braff, too.
Geez, Emily, get it together, and stop worrying about dudes at every moment. The good news is that she will begin this season by being single and happy, but then the quadrangle will likely return, including both Gabriel and Alfie, and nobody will ever face a single consequence on this show. Tune in for the melodrama and stay for Ashley Park singing songs that she could do in her sleep along with more inexplicable “fashion” that Emily could never afford on her salary. Yep, this is totally a Darren Star show, which accounts for its addictiveness, too.
Health is truly wealth. Legendary rapper and producer Scarface would certainly agree with this ideology. Over the years, the Geto Boys member has documented his frightening medical ups and downs, which included a kidney transplant and a battle with the coronavirus.
Sadly, Scarface is back in the hospital for an undisclosed ailment. Yesterday (August 23), the “F*ck You Too” rapper posted an image of himself receiving medical treatment. “Ouch… Grateful,” read the caption.
Scarface did not outline the nature of his treatment or what he was admitted for. But the Houston Chronicle pointed out that one of the professionals in the image belonged to the facility’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. After he’s had time to properly heal, Scarface might provide the public with further information.
Until then, several hip-hop titans, including DJ Premier, Mannie Fresh, E40, DJ Quik, Twista, Three 6 Mafia, and Krayzie Bone rushed to the post’s comment section to wish the Southern rap icon a speedy recovery.
“Prayers sent Face! Continue to heal. Love you, Brad,” wrote Premier.
“Praying for a speedy recovery family. I love you,” penned E40.
“Let’s go bro, we got things to do,” added Mannie Fresh.
“Brad, we got more work to do bro bro. Ain’t no time to be out of time,” chimed Quik.
“God, watch, protect, and heal my brother,” inked Twista.
Industry professionals claim that it takes up to a decade for an artist to become an overnight celebrity. For Chappell Roan that timeline just about fits with her explosion onto the mainstream radar. Still, the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer isn’t a fan of fame.
In fact, just a quickly has she’s been toted as a pop darling (co-signed by Uproxx cover star Jonas Brothers and Adele), Chappell Roan has just as swiftly instituted boundaries to cope with it all.
Last month, Chappell Roan began to call out fans for their “creepy,” “f*cking weird,” and at times “stalker vibes.” Today (August 24), Chappell Roan has doubled down on her decision to enforce boundaries.
In her Instagram stories Chappell Roan uploaded a video statement to outline her stance (viewable here courtesy of Pop Crave).
“I want people to feel safe at my shows and feel like a community,” she said. “I want to feel that way too. I love you. And love is not transactional. And I think you know that. I just thank you for your support. This is nothing to do with that.”
In addition to the clip, Chappell Roan reposted a written statement, originally shared on August 23, that detailed that same sentiments.
Now, according to a report published by Sunday Times, Oasis is planning to reunite on stage. According to a source, the group has already booked a slew of shows. The insider claimed Oasis’ highly-anticipated performances will be sprinkled across the UK, including summer 2025 shows in Manchester and London. As for the supposed lucky venues, Heaton Park and Wembley Stadium are reportedly set to host the group’s eager fans. But that is just the tip of the rumor iceberg.
Liam Gallagher further fanned the rumor flames in an exchange with a fan on X (formerly Twitter). After the user slammed the idea of Oasis playing Heaton Park, Liam hilariously clapped back, writing: “See you down the front.”
Eminem is tough as nail when it comes to any rap foe that takes aim at him. However, when it comes to the “Tobey” rapper’s relationship with his daughter Hailie Jade, he is a big ole softy.
On Eminem’s latest album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), he displayed his vulnerable side as a father on tracks like “Somebody Save Me” featuring Jelly Roll and “Temporary.” Yesterday (August 23), Hailie Jade confessed that each track brought her to tears.
On the latest episode of her podcast, Just A Little Shady, Hailie shared her emotional response after she listened to the records.
Although she admitted that she could only watch the official music video for “Somebody Save Me,” which features home footage, due to the overwhelming feeling it brought forth, the songs are another story.
“I definitely cry every time I hear it at all,” she said. “Between [Somebody Save Me] and ‘Temporary,’… I audibly sobbed I think for both songs but especially ‘Temporary.’”
While Eminem is proudly sober now, things weren’t always that way. One “Somebody Save Me,” Eminem things back on those times. However, Hailie Jade praised her parents for protecting her from truly seeing how difficult their battle with addiction was.
“I feel like my parents did such a good job growing up where I didn’t realize how bad things were,” she said. “But, now as like, an adult in hindsight, it’s so scary to think about. And I think that’s why I get emotional so much, like just thinking that could have happened.”
Watch the full episode of the Just A Little Shady podcast hosted by Hailie Jade with co-host Brittany Ednie above.
There is a growing trend of playing fast and loose with others intellectual property rights. For recording artists it can certainly be annoying when done by a peer (i.e. Kanye West/Ye). But, when politicians enter the ring, the frustration seems to reach new heights.
Yesterday (August 23), Foo Fighters song, “My Hero” was played during Donald Trump’s rally (viewable here) to introduce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Although the Glendale, Arizona crowd enjoyed the classic 1997 tune, Foo Fighters surely didn’t appreciate its unauthorized use.
On X (formerly Twitter), in an exchange with a user the band stressed that. However, should its use result in a spike in streaming revenue, the band does have a clever plan for that—donate it to Trump’s opponent.
In a statement provided by a spokesperson to Billboard, the band doubled down on their disapproval and outlined their plan to combat its use. “Foo Fighters were not asked permission, and if they were, they would not have granted it,” read the statement. “Appropriate actions are being taken against the [campaign]… Any royalties received as a result of this usage will be donated to the Harris/Walz campaign.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has been slammed for similar actions. The late Isaac Hayes’ estate reportedly filed of copyright infringement notice for his use of “Hold on, I’m Coming.” Beyoncé allegedly sent a cease and desist for his use of “Freedom,” which was previously approved For Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign video. Even, Celine Dion penned a letter of disdain after her breakout hit “My Heart Will Go On” was used by the Trump/Vance campaign.
Well, hey maybe Kid Rock or Swae Lee can cook up something for Trump. Fivio Foreign and Kodak Black already has.
Yesterday (August 23), Justin Bieber along with his wife and model Hailey Bieber announced the birth of their son with an adorable post on Instagram.
In the image, shared to Justin’s account, displayed their newborn son’s foot being caressed by Hailey’s doting hand. The caption went on to disclose the bundle of joy’s name: “Welcome home, Jack Blues Bieber .”
The addition of Jack to the Bieber family, marks the couple’s first child both together or apart. Back in May, Justin and Hailey revealed their exciting pregnancy news with a cinematic visual and accompanying photos.
Since that upload, both have kept their respective fans abreast with the pregnancy’s progress. Last month, Hailey and her bump graced the cover of W Magazine.
Inside the publication’s feature she opened up about her pregnancy fears which played a part in delaying the public announcement until after the six-month mark. “The Internet is a scary place for a pregnant woman,” she said. “You see so many stories—traumatic birth stories, traumatic experiences—and I know that that’s very real. But I don’t want to scare myself.”
The summer is coming to a close, but Drake still has heat to deliver. Yesterday (August 23), the “Too Good” rapper seemingly woke up and chose violence.
Apparently, Drake’s 100 Gigs release was just a warm-up. When everyone least expected it, Drake dropped another previously unreleased collaboration, “No Face” featuring Playboi Carti.
Although Playboi Carti’s guest verses have proven to be a hit song’s secret sauce, he only appears across the track’s chorus. The verses are reserved for Drake, as he seemingly took aim at Kendrick Lamar once again. Back in May, Drake supposedly waved that white flag in heated battle. But, some rap beefs never die.
Drake subtly addressed his longtime foe, Metro Boomin, and possibly Mustard in the opening lines, as he rapped: “This is the sh*t that my daddy had raised me on / N****s got lit off the features I skated on / I gotta know, I gotta know / How you get lit off the n**** you hatin’ on? / Numbers untouchable, they got the data wrong.”
In the next verse, Drake turned his attention to musicians who jumped in to shade him during the height of his beef with Kendrick Lamar.
“Cause I keep on talkin’ ’bout beefin’ and business and money and women / It’s no diagnosis, they emptied the clip / Quick, swap that sh*t out, and I came back reloaded / I’m just so happy that n****s who envied and held that shit in got to finally show it / I’m over the / Moon, yeah, we’ll see you boys soon / I’m spreadin’ my wings, I hop out cocoon,” he rapped.

The Netflix-inspired Suits and Dexter spin offs prove that streaming successes work wonders for fans who want more of their favorite characters. Procedural and legal-leaning series tend to impressively cross that threshold, and it’s no wonder why White Collar devotees want to see the former USA Network series be the next to graduate into reboot territory.
The Matt Bomer-starring series ended in 2014, and a decade later, talk initially began heating up in June with series creator Jeff Eastin and three of the police procedural’s stars coming forward to express their mutual willingness to get the team back together. A few months later, the campaign from within the show is reaching a new level, so let’s talk about what this Suits predecessor is doing to follow in that show’s footsteps.
Plot
White Collar ran for six seasons and followed charmingly handsome thief Neal Caffrey (Bomer) as he became a criminal informant for FBI Special Agent in Charge Peter Burke (Tim DeKay). And if you imagined that Bomer’s ability to slide right into a dual identity and wear the hell out of those suits was natural, think again. A few months ago, the Magic Mike actor sat down for a Netflix promotional video to drum up interest in the show’s post-network streaming life. This move was obviously successful, given the continue push for a reboot, but also, Bomer was sharing how his character’s art of suit wearing and suave-criminal demeanor were not simple matters, as you can hear below:
In addition to Bomer and DeKay, the cast was rounded out by Tiffani Thiessen as Peter’s wife, Elizabeth Burke, and Hilarie Burton as Neal’s love interest and an insurance agent. On the law enforcement side of the equation, the show included Natalie Morales as Agent Lauren Cruz, Marasha Thomason as Agent Diana Berrigan, and Sharif Atkins as Clinton Jones. The late Willie Garson portrayed Neal’s shady friend, Mozzie, who came onboard as an informer, too.
As for the plot of the reboot, a reboot-pilot has been written by co-creator Jeff Eastin, and details are being kept hush hush other than DeKay and Thiessen revealing how the script “honors Willie… in a profound way,” and the latter admitted that she was excited about the prospect of getting back on set with her career-favorite cast members.
Back during a June 2024 Variety-hosted panel, Bomer, DeKay, and Theissen each declared that they were willing and waiting to get suited and heeled up for more episodes after reading a pilot script. Specifically, Bomer declared, “I’m in!” Co-creator Jeff Eastin declared that “we’re gonna reboot.”
Fast forward to late August, and Bomer is still keeping hope alive. He told PEOPLE about the script, and even though he didn’t reveal plot points, something important is happening here:
“It’s a really intelligent, fun, organic way to bring all the characters back together to pay tribute to Willie Garson, Diahann Carroll and folks we’ve lost since the show ended, which was really important to me. It’s something that if you enjoyed the show, you really will have a good time watching it.”
Bomer then added, “We worked long hours on that show, and it never felt like work. It was just such a fun, free, open environment and a great place to just create and explore the characters.” That’s living the dream. And Tiffani Thiessen recently sat down with Popculture and issued a seemingly universal sentiment among the cast: “[O]ut of over 40 years in this business, it is one of the top cast and crew and shows that I’ve done that I would absolutely, if they asked me to come back and do again, that I would say yes in a heartbeat.”
Cast
Matt Bomer, Tiffani Theissen, and Tim DeKay expressed interest months ago, and now, Bomer and Theissen have kept the campaign going. Those are the only confirmed names in the mix, but surely, others won’t be too far behind..
Release Date
Considering how quickly Suits Summer prompted NBCUniversal to run with a Suits: LA spin off, which will arrive within a year of greenlighting, White Collar appears to be even better positioned for a streamlined timeline. The pilot script already exists, and much of the original cast is ready to climb onboard, so if the green light switch gets flipped soon, watch out, 2025.
Trailer
No trailer, man. However, a 13-year-old Paley Center For Media panel discussion included Willie Garson and Co. gushing over how much everybody in the cast cares beyond belief about making quality programming.
