Sin City will get a five part dose of Dorchester, Massachusetts. Yesterday (September 19), New Kids On The Block announced their first-ever Las Vegas residency. Since the “Step By Step” musicians’ beloved reunion they’ve left no corner of the country unturned during their tour runs.

But come 2025, they will make Las Vegas their home for the New Kids On The Block residency, The Right Stuff. Fans from around the world will pour into the Park MGM’s Dolby Live during the months of June, July, and November. The venue currently serves as the home to Mariah Carey’s The Celebration Of Mimi residency.

Although there’s no promise that his brother and former member Mark will make a surprise cameo, Donnie Wahlberg promises an immersive experience nonetheless. “We cherish every opportunity that we get to perform for our fans,” he said in a statement. “But a Las Vegas residency gives us an opportunity to take our performance, and interaction with our fans, to the next level. We plan on maximizing everything that the amazing Dolby Live at Park MGM has to offer, to create the most incredible NKOTB concert ever. As well as everything that Las Vegas has to offer — to create multiple events to directly engage with our fans. Las Vegas will never be the same after The New Kids and The Blockheads take over the town.”

New Kids On The Block’s Las Vegas residency will take place between June 20 and July 5, 2025, and throughout November 2025. The pre-sale is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, September 24 at 10 a.m. Pacific. The general sale will follow on Friday, September 27 at 10 a.m. Pacific. Find more information here. Tekashi 69 Is Accused Of Distributing ‘Revenge Porn’ In A Lawsuit Filed By Ex-Girlfriend Yailin La Más Viral

Tekashi 69 Yailin La Mas Viral 2024 (1024x437)
Instagram

Tekashi 69’s past legal troubles in the Dominican Republic are reportedly traveling with him to the US. According to TMZ, the “Yaya” rapper has been hit with an alarming lawsuit.

The outlet claims that Tekashi 69 (real name Daniel Hernandez) is being sued by his ex-girlfriend Yailin La Más Viral. In documents obtained by TMZ, the reggaeton singer (real name Jorgina Lulu Guillermo Diaz) alleged that during their relationship she endured physical, sexual, emotional, and financial abuse. Yailin La Más Viral also alleged that Tekashi 69 distributed ‘revenge porn’ in the form of photos and video on X (formerly Twitter) after she ended the relationship in August 2024.

Later in the filing, Yailin La Más Viral alleged that during their relationship Tekashi 69 drugged and abused her. She also claimed that he “stole hundreds of thousands of dollars” from her “to fund his own luxury expenses.” Lastly, Yailin La Más Viral argued that Tekashi 69 “manipulated, shamed, and coerced her to undergo unnecessary plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures.”

Yailin La Más Viral is seeking $1 million in damages. In addition to the financial damages, Yailin La Más Viral is asking the courts to prevent Tekashi 69 from uploading any more explicit images or videos of her online.

Tekashi 69 slammed Yailin La Más Viral’s accusations as lies in a statement to TMZ. “All that jewelry is mine,” he said. “That car she’s riding in I bought. The penthouse she got in the Dominican Republic I bought. I took care of her family and daughter. When I met her she had 2-month-old baby, I put pampers and food on the table for them.”

Is The ‘Invincible’ Live-Action Movie Still Happening?

Invincible Season 2
Amazon

Prime Video/Amazon’s Invincible (based upon exec producer Robert Kirkman’s comic) has proven that an animated series can still hit hard while skewering superheroes in manner of The Boys (from showrunner Eric Kripke and author Garth Ennis), and there will be more where that debauched trip came from.

Kirkman’s other brainchild (beyond The Walking Dead) will land reportedly soon for a third season of Mark Grayson/Invincible (Steven Yeun) wrestling with the wreckage of what his father, Nolan/Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), has wrought upon Earth. The show’s violence happens to be even more graphic than The Boys with the physicality of many supporting characters benefiting from 2D animation. It’s hard to imagine, for starters, Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen) being anything less than challenging in live-action form.

Speaking of Rogen, a lingering question has existed since Hollywood Reporter first revealed in 2017 that he, Evan Goldberg, and Kirkman were developing a live-action Invincible film. Kirkman had declared that his comic book’s “surprising, edgy, shocking, and oftentimes blood-soaked story couldn’t be in more capable hands [w]ith the team of Rogen, Goldberg and Universal.” Rogen and Goldberg added, “No matter how much damage it causes our bodies, minds, and our most intimate relationships with those we love, we will not rest until Invincible is as great a movie as it deserves to be.”

Fast forward to 2021, and the animated Invincible series arrived, and we could have said goodbye to 2024 with no inkling of whether that live-action dream will come true. Fortunately, The Direct caught up with Kirkman at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, and he insisted that the live-action movie will still happen even though “it may take so long that Timothée Chalamet can play Omni-Man.” Well then, yet there’s more:

“It’s still in development. We’re still working with Universal. You know, the show is going so well. I think the movie absolutely has to be perfect. And so it’s taking a lot of time, like getting the pieces aligned and getting everything to work so that we can come out and make it as good as it can possibly be. So it’s been in development for a long time, and it’s probably going to be in development for a while longer. Just because, in relation to the show, it has to provide a different experience, it has to still be true to ‘Invincible’ in some interesting ways.”

Kirkman insisted that the movie will provide a “new experience” for viewers, but “it has to be better than the show” to make it worth a trip to the multiplex, and “[I]t’s very difficult, but we’ve got a good team behind it.” In Robert Kirkman we trust? Surely, he wouldn’t lead us astray on this project, and it does sound more likely than a Rick Grimes movie ever did.

Meanwhile, Invincible‘s third season is on track to return in 2025 with Yeun, Simmons, Sandra Oh (Debbie Grayson), and approximately 800 other cast members along for the ride. See you then.

‘True Detective’ Season 5: Everything To Know So Far About HBO’s Swiftly Renewed ‘Night Country’ Followup (Sept. 2024 Update)

True Detective Night Country
HBO

The first True Detective season with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey (leaving Surfer, Dude far behind) aired in 2014. Almost universally, the anthology series’ fans maintain that the show’s debut was close to TV perfection, although the franchise finally got plenty of mojo back with the fourth season. A full decade after the series launched, Jodie Foster received the series’ first acting Emmy for her role in True Detective: Night Country, thereby reigniting curiosity in the greenlit upcoming fifth season.

HBO content chief Casey Bloys recently addressed progress on the season in a post-Emmys roundup, even though continuing showrunner, director, and writer Issa López hasn’t yet revealed whether the next season will formally have Night Country affixed to the title. Her fourth season did manage to eclipse viewership from the first season, so it’s no wonder that HBO decided that López should return for another round, so let’s piece together the hints dropped about what to expect.

Plot

True Detective Season 4
HBO

We are in truly uncharted territory here. That’s the most coherent conclusion that can be drawn from Casey Bloys’ recent chat with Deadline, in which he revealed that López continues to pen the fifth season, and “I don’t think there’s going to be anybody from Ennis in the new town. We’ll see.” He also chose to not reveal the next season’s setting, vibe, or theme while adding, “I will leave it to Issa when she’s ready.”

What did López have to reveal on the Emmys red carpet? Her words to The Wrap suggest that Ennis truly is in the rear view mirror. “I’m deep, deep, deep in the writing and just in the smack of it,” she declared. “It’s very strange to be submerged in another universe and then come back here and be talking again about Ennis.” (So yeah, no Ennis.) López further revealed that this season will continue to exist within the “same universe” as Season 4 (and presumably Season 1, in light of the Rust Cohle fatherly connection), so expect more references and supernatural shenanigans: “It’s the same universe, and the magical realism is my brand, so it will be there.”

López also has not disclosed whether the series will continue to take take place atop frozen tundra, so will this show continue to follow the pattern of swapping out locations for a new unsolved case? After Louisiana, California, Arkansas, and Alaska, heck, maybe the show will somewhere random like Oklahoma. That’s a joke, but maybe even a half-joke. Enough shows lately (FX’s Reservation Dogs, Paramount+’s Tulsa King, HBO’s Watchmen) have already decided that the Sooner State is a fine place for comedy, drama, and even superheroes. What I’m saying is this: obviously, the series could go anywhere because The Walking Dead is currently in freaking France.

From there, we do know that HBO greenlit the fifth season immediately after the fourth season finale and associated viewership numbers, but the cable premium network isn’t jumping the gun (and is in “no rush,” as López revealed to The Playlist) by pressing for a speedy return. That might sound temporarily frustrating on the wait-time front, but this show’s fans probably realize by now that a quality season that is slow to arrive is preferable than a slapdash effort, which is now plenty of viewers felt about that second season from Nic Pizzolato. Speaking of the show’s creator, we can also say with certainty that he will be grumpy with whatever transpires onscreen next.

Cast

Neither Jodie Foster nor Kali Reis have publicly signaled their involvement in future seasons, although that should be expected in an anthology series. López and HBO are also being very close-lipped about potential casting for new lead detectives.

Release Date

Casey Bloys was forthright about not knowing when this season will surface, so 2026 is likely the earliest case scenario, perhaps even 2027.

Trailer

In the absence of any footage whatsoever for the coming season, this provides as good a reason as any to revisit the filming of the first season. Time really is a flat circle, man.

The Best New Hip-Hop This Week

future
Getty Image

The Best New Hip-Hop This Week includes albums, videos, and songs from Future, Lil Tecca, and MC Lyte.

The past week was a big one for announcements. Nicki Minaj announced a new album in place of the deluxe version of her latest; Megan Thee Stallion announced Megan: Act Two, without revealing whether it will be a new album or a deluxe reissue; Doechii announced her Alligator Bites Never Heal Tour; and GloRilla announced the release date for her debut album Glorious.

In addition, Schoolboy Q dropped two new videos from his new album Blue Lips. I’m partial to “Lost Times”:

GloRilla released the first Glorious single, “Hollon“:

TiaCorine got dripped out in her video for “Different Colored Stones“:

And Kaliii chromed out her baby bump to show off her “Hot Girl Maybach“:

I guess the girlies really are still running hip-hop.

Here is the best of hip-hop this week ending September 20, 2024.

Albums/EPs/Mixtapes

The Alchemist — The Genuine Articulate

The Alchemist

The coveted West Coast beatmaker drops eight new songs, with features from the likes of Action Bronson, Conway, Larry June, and Schoolboy Q.

Blu & Exile — Love The Ominous World

Blu & Exile

The beloved Los Angeles rapper-producer duo teams up for their fourth album, a 12-song collection of soulful beats and thoughtful raps. They bring along the usual suspects: Aloe Blacc, Cashus King, Fashawn, but bring along some West Coast underground legends, like Kurupt, Kxng Crooked, and RBX(!).

Lil Tecca — Plan A

Lil Tecca

Tecca’s career has been impressive. When the Queens native first debuted five years ago with the ultra-buzzy “Ransom,” you’d have been hard-pressed to find too many hardcore rap fans who’d expect to see him outlast many of his contemporaries… yet, here he is, on his fifth(!) album, still going strong.

MC Lyte — 1 Of 1

MC Lyte

With so many women achieving never-before-seen heights of hip-hop popularity — and so many Golden Era pioneers experiencing late-career resurgences — it was probably only a matter of time before one of the most committed and influential women in rap made a return with a new album of her own. Lyte holds up the first half, but the feature-heavy back half is chock-full of enviable co-signs, from Common and Stevie Wonder to Big Daddy Kane and Salt of Salt-N-Pepa.

Singles/Videos

DSTRCT — “Strip Appeal”

With an NSFW video suiting its flirtatious content, DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers artist DSTRCT makes his return after just about a year to begin the campaign for his next album. With a fitting West Coast beat and unfiltered lyrics, DSTRCT puts himself on the map as one of LA’s new names to watch.

Dej Loaf — “BNB”

Dej returns with a bit of Quiet Storm balladry on her latest, which hearkens to her sensual early singles like “Me U & Hennessey.” The video might raise some eyebrows as well, thanks to it seemingly confirming a long-rumored suspicion about the Detroit artist.

Flyana Boss — “Nepo Baby”

Lotta rap babies lately. Flyana Boss finds a funny way to turn Folayan’s blessing into content. Their usual wit is in place, along with a cracking trap beat.

Kid Cudi — “Don’t Worry” Feat. Chip Tha Ripper

The two Ohio reunite for a vintage performance from both in this visual ode to Cudi’s come-up on the streets of New York City.

Monaleo — “Flush Em” Feat. Kaliii

The two Southern rap stars team up for the second time in as many months for another dismissive anthem.

Shaun Sloan — “Ghetto Needs”

The algorithms suck in general, but every so often, they do deliver on their promise of making music discovery not just seamless but solid. I hadn’t heard of Shaun Sloan ’til today, but I can’t say learning about the indie rapper has been anything less than pleasant.

‘Anora’ Should Be Considered A Frontrunner For Best Picture At The Oscars

anora(1024x450)
a24/merle cooper

What do the following films have in common: Parasite, Titane, Triangle of Sadness, Anatomy of a Fall, and Anora? A few things, actually: they’re all excellent movies that you should watch (especially the one about a woman who has sex with a car, and then becomes pregnant with the car’s baby); they were all distributed by Neon; and they’re the last five winners of the Cannes Film Festival’s highest prize, the Palme d’Or. However, of the first four, only one also won Best Picture at the Academy Awards: Parasite. Could Anora be next?

Anora stars Better Things breakout Mikey Madison as a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, played by Mark Eidelstein. It was written and directed by Sean Baker, who should have received loads of nominations from the Oscars for his last two films, The Florida Project (emphatic, devastating, unforgettable) and Red Rocket (a brilliantly prickly depiction of the Trump era without being explicitly about Trump). But both were snubbed. It does not appear history will repeat itself with Anora.

Outside of the Palme d’Or, Anora was also the second runner-up for the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. That might sound like a minor achievement, but the last film to pull of the same feat was Parasite. As IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich joked, “I’m the worst Oscar prognosticator in the world but I choose to believe this means something.”

Gold Derby believes it does, too; Anora is listed among the frontrunners to receive a Best Picture nomination at the 2025 Oscars. So does Variety, IndieWire, The Hollywood Reporter, and Awards Watch. That’s a strong showing for a movie from the guy who created Greg the Bunny about a sex worker.

About that: it’s not that the Oscars have ignored depictions of sex workers (or “call girls,” among other less-progressive terms) in the past. Julia Roberts was nominated for Pretty Woman, for instance, as was Elisabeth Shue for Leaving Las Vegas. Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Fonda even won for BUtterfield 8 and Klute, respectively. Heck, the first Best Actress winner ever was Janet Gaynor, who “tries to prostitute herself” in 1928’s Street Angel. But none of those films were nominated for Best Picture (even if Klute should have been).

So why does Anora have a chance if the Academy also hasn’t been receptive to Baker’s work in the past? It checks a lot of boxes: Anora is “heartbreaking but hilarious,” “endearing,” and “timely and thoughtful.” But most of all, it’s “crowd pleasing,” and in a year without an undeniable phenomenon like Oppenheimer, that could be enough to put it over the top for Best Picture (see: CODA and Everything Everywhere All at Once). Anora, the character, is impossible to not root for, and on January 17, 2025, when the Best Picture nominations are announced, a lot of people will be rooting to hear her name.

Anora comes out in theaters on October 18.

‘Venom: The Last Dance’: Everything To Know About The Final Film In Tom Hardy’s Endearingly Silly Trilogy

Venom The Last Dance
sony

To paraphrase Tom Petty: last dance with Venom, one more time to kill the pain.

Venom: The Last Dance is the third and final film in star Tom Hardy’s Venom trilogy, which surprised everyone with its goofiness in 2018’s Venom and then made Venom a queer icon in 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. How can The Last Dance up the ante? Two words: Venom Horse. But we’ll get there.

Here’s everything to know about Venom: The Last Dance, including plot details, the cast, and when it comes out in theaters.

Plot

Let’s begin with the official plot synopsis: “In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.” The big bad this time is Knull. Think trying to act normal when all you want to do is munch on a lobster in a fish tank is tough? Try facing off against the eldritch god of darkness and the creator of the symbiotes!

OK, now the time has come to talk about Venom horse.

The obvious highlight of the Venom: The Last Dance trailer is Venom taking over a horse, and dragging Eddie Brock for a ride like a Sabrina Carpenter-sized human getting pulled by their very large dog. It’s the kind of Looney Tunes charm that makes Venom stand out from other comic book movies.

“If the mission statement is commercial, blockbuster, action, and superhero movie, how can we imbue a sense of something that’s fun and different?” Hardy told Forbes about Venom: The Last Dance, which was written and directed by Kelly Marcel. “What’s going to entice people that they have a memory, they have a moment, they have an event? This comes from us who are really, really caring about this.” The rumored popcorn bucket helps.

Hardy is pulling for an R rating after Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage were both rated PG-13. “By the third one, we’ve been given so much creative support to do – to push it. It’s a much wider piece and there’s much more love – not that there was not love in the last ones,” he said. “We’ve been allowed to put more of our ideas into it and I’m really excited to see how they land.”

Cast

Venom: The Last Dance stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and Venom, obviously. I’m only half-joking when I boldly proclaim that he should be nominated for an Oscar for the Venom voice alone.

The rest of the cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Graham, Peggy Lu, and Alanna Ubach (neither Michelle Williams nor Jenny Slate are expected to return, although, amusingly, they’re both in the same upcoming FX series). Sony is keeping the identity of the actor playing baddie Knull a secret, but everyone from Ifans (who previously played Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home) to Norman Reedus has been rumored. Maybe it’ll be one of Hardy’s Peaky Blinders co-stars!

Release Date

Like Magic Mike before him, Venom makes his Last Dance on October 25 (the weekend after Anora and before Here). I’m just saying, Eddie and Venom would make a cute couples costume for Halloween.

Please enjoy the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance below.

Uproxx Music 20: Jaz Karis’ ‘Safe Flight’ Is A Soaring Debut And A Tasteful Melting Pot Of R&B Flavors

Jaz Karis 'Uproxx Music 20' image
Lucero Glow/Merle Cooper

The promising future for Jaz Karis’ is finally here. The London singer released her debut album Safe Flight today and it surpasses all expectations laid before her prior to its release. The 13-track release documents the journey and creative processes that led to Safe Flight and how, in making the album, Karis in a way left home to begin a new independent chapter in her life.

“This past year or so, I have traveled back and forth between London & Los Angeles so much that I hadn’t realized how much my life was changing before my eyes,” Karis said in a press release for the album. “The title Safe Flight felt fitting due to the amount of times I had heard it this past year, it also felt like I was embarking on a new journey, which is exactly what this album has been for me.” Karis’ feeling of starting a new chapter comes from the fact that just one song on the album was made in her hometown of London, with the rest mostly taking shape in Los Angeles, as well as New York City, Atlanta, Texas.

In the end, Safe Flight is a soaring and impressive debut from Karis that also doubles as a tasteful melting pot of R&B flavors. Karis delivers excellent traditional R&B ballads like “Love Me” and “Prayer” while impressing just as much with duets through the Mahalia-assisted “Nice Girls” and “Met You At A Bar” with Tone Stith. Karis brings us to the tropics and dazzles on “Tequila” with Reekado Banks, “Sims Castaway” with Juls, and “Chill On Me” with June Freedom. The diverse project reaffirms both Karis’ talents and her stardom.

Together with the release of Safe Flight, Uproxx caught up with Karis to spotlight her for this week’s Uproxx Music 20 column. Scroll down to learn more about the London singer’s inspiration, influences, and aspirations.

See Previous UPROXX MUSIC 20 Interviews:

What is your earliest memory of music?

My earliest memory of music is a pink toy I used to carry everywhere with me, and it played different loops on it. I used to make songs to the loops and I still remember my first limerick to this day.

Who or what inspired you to take music seriously?

I think I’d have to say at the time it was Alicia Keys. I played piano and her song was the first song I ever recorded in the studio, I saw myself in her.

Do you know how to play an instrument? If so, which one? If not, which instrument do you want to learn how to play?

Yes, I play the piano.

What was your first job?

My first ever job was a receptionist at a music studio and they gave me free studio time in exchange.

What is your most prized possession?

My cat.

What is your biggest fear?

Failure.

Who is on your R&B Mt. Rushmore?

Usher, SWV, Beyoncé, and Chris Brown.

You get 24 hours to yourself to do anything you want, with unlimited resources: What are you doing? And spare no details!

Turning off my phone, flying first class with my friends and family to the Caribbean, and sipping a rum punch on the beach listening to Safe Flight.

What are your three most used emojis?

😂, ✈, and 🤍.

What’s a feature you need to secure before you die?

Drake.

If you could appear in a future season of a current TV show, which one would it be and why?

Black Mirror because I love it so much! It tells such a cool story, and they always end up coming true, so I feel like I’d get an inside on what’s coming.

Which celebrity do you admire or respect for their personality, and why?

J. Cole because he kept his crooked smile.

Share your opinion on something no one could ever change your mind about.

The cereal goes first, and then the milk.

What is the best song you’ve ever heard in your life, and what do you love about it?

“No Regrets” by Ella Fitzgerald. I love the vulnerability of this song, and it’s honestly just beautiful. It is so sad but sounds so sweet.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform, and what’s a city you’re excited to perform in for the first time?

London because it’s home, and I can’t wait to perform in New York City.

You are throwing a music festival. Give us the dream lineup of 5 artists that will perform with you and the location where it would be held.

It would be held in Barcelona and the lineup would be Drake, PND, Jazmine Sullivan, Frank Ocean, and Beyoncé.

What would you be doing now if it weren’t for music?

I would either be a teacher, compete in the heptathlon, or work on a farm

If you could see five years into the future or go five years into the past, which one would you pick and why?

I would go to the future because you never said I could change the past, and it’d most probably save me a lot of time now.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Care less.

It’s 2050. The world hasn’t ended, and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

As a classic, timeless truth. I would hope it inspires the next generation of music.

Safe Flight is out now via Carmen Inc. Limited/MNKR Records LP. Find out more information here.

4Batz And Lil Baby ‘Roll Da Dice’ On Romance In Their Smooth New Video

Mysterious crooner 4Batz draws Atlanta trap mainstay Lil Baby out from hiatus on his new single, “Roll Da Dice.” In the video, which went live 12 hours after the single’s release, the unlikely duo literally play a game of craps between shots of their amorous efforts. The song is a mellow banger on which the two artists sing the praises of a romantic interest.

4Batz is coming off his headlining Thank U, Jada tour after releasing his debut mixtape, U Made Me A St4r. His meteoric rise may have been driven by the mystery surrounding his relationship with Drake after the OVO founder’s appearance on 4Batz’s breakout single, “Date @ 8,” but since then, he’s worked overtime to prove he earned it.

Lil Baby, meanwhile, has had kind of a quiet 2024, stepping away from social media at the end of 2023 until his album is finished. Since then, he’s only appeared on a handful of big releases, including Central Cee’s “Band4Band” and Tay B’s “All Ten.” Fans waiting on a follow-up to his 2022 album It’s Only Me have certainly had time to build up an appetite to find out where “Crazy” and “350” — Baby’s last-released singles — will end up.

You can watch 4Batz and Lil Baby’s video for “Roll Da Dice” above.
