Chester Bennington’s Mother ‘Cried’ Listening To New Linkin Park Singer Emily Armstrong ‘Screeching Her Way Through A Very High Note’

Linkin Park fans have a lot to celebrate right now as the band has reunited, adding new singer Emily Armstrong to the lineup in place of the late Chester Bennington. Susan Eubanks, Bennington’s mother, isn’t thrilled with the situation, though.

She aired her grievances in a new piece for Rolling Stone. The piece starts:

“I feel betrayed. They told me that if they were ever going to do something, they would let me know. They didn’t let me know, and they probably knew that I wouldn’t going to be very happy. I’m very upset about it.

I feel like they’re trying very hard to erase the past. They’re performing songs that Chester sang. And I don’t know how the fans are taking it, but I know how I take it. And having [Armstrong] singing my son’s songs is hurtful.

They said they would let the family know if they were going to reunite. They did not. [Bennington’s first wife] Samantha and [son] Draven didn’t know until it was told to the world. It was the same for me and it hurt.

I have seen Joe Hahn a few times since Chester died. The last time was maybe four, five years ago. And he promised that he would let me know what was going on, and he didn’t have any intention of starting the band back up.”

She then went on to discuss new singer Emily Armstrong, saying she heard about the new addition via Google. She also noted she listened to the band’s livestream, and after hearing Armstrong “screeching her way through a very high note,” she cried. She continued:

“Mike [Shinoda] told Chester one time that he thought singing these songs would be better with a girl, because he often put Chester down. And Chester called me and said, ‘He thinks that they’re going to replace me with a girl.’ And I said, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said Mike told him at rehearsal that, ‘If you decide you’re leaving, we’re going to replace you with a girl.’ And Chester was dumbfounded and hurt.

And the fact is that now they did it. So, of course, all that comes right back into my mind. I had a talk with my son about this. I didn’t think they’d probably do it.”

A Pre-Fame Chappell Roan Composed The Score For A Short Horror Film, Which Is Being Re-Released In Time For Halloween

Before Chappell Roan was drawing huge crowds and getting Jenna Ortega to do the “Hot To Go!” dance, she was, well, she was still super talented. It’s just that the world at large didn’t know it yet. But Rachel Stavis did. The writer and director enlisted the singer to provide the score for her 2022 short horror film, Posies, which is being re-released on October 9.

Here’s the official synopsis for Posies: “As people begin to ‘devolve’ into monsters, one woman attempts to hide her transformation by placing flowers under her skin.” The short was written by Stavis, who co-directed with Katherine Fisher (it was also executive produced by Better Things and King of the Hill‘s Pamela Adlon!). You can watch the trailer above.

“Having Chappell Roan’s creativity and intensity strewn throughout Posies by way of the score that she so eloquently created was a dream come true,” Stavis said. “Our earliest discussions about this project centered around using her greatest instrument – her voice – to create a haunting, emotional, and atmospheric depth to the film. She captured exactly what we envisioned for this and did it virtually on her first try. It was extraordinary. She has an amazing gift of storytelling through music, and her composition remains one of the most unique and unforgettable elements of the film. We’re beyond grateful that she was able to create something so special – specifically for me and my audience – before her inevitable rise to fame.”

Posies, which stars Anna Diop and Andy Favreau, will be available to watch on ALTER on October 9. You can find more information here.

Is ‘Good Omens’ Season 3 In Jeopardy Amid The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman?

Amazon Prime

Within the past month, Dead Boy Detectives received the ax by Netflix, and Disney put their planned Graveyard book movie adaptation on pause. Both decisions arrived in the wake of sexual assault allegations reported by Tortoise Media against fantasy author Neil Gaiman, who has denied the accusations against him by at least five women.

Some of those allegations are the subject of an ongoing investigation in New Zealand, and these concerns caused The Sandman viewers to wonder whether this will complicate Season 2’s arrival date or tip the balance against a third season of the Endless-focused show. Amid these mounting troubles, further questions about Prime Video/Amazon’s Good Omens have also been swirling, including whether the previously announced third season will happen or not.

At this time, Amazon has not made a definitive statement on whether Good Omens could be cancelled rather than proceed with more. However, signs of change might be afoot. According to Page Six, Gaiman is usually a “mainstay” at Jeff Bezos’ “top secret Campfire literary retreat” but will not attend this year for unknown reasons, and as Deadline reports, “Production has been paused on the third and final season of fantasy drama Good Omens, the Neil Gaiman drama for Amazon that’s shooting in Scotland” with (also reported) “discussions about possible production changes” taking place.

Subsequently, Deadline reported that Gaiman “offered to step back”:

Neil Gaiman is understood to have offered to step back from the third and final season of Amazon Prime Video‘s fantasy drama Good Omens… Now, we understand that Gaiman has made an offer to Amazon and producers to take a back seat on the latest season so that it can continue amid crisis talks over the Terry Pratchett adaptation’s future. Deadline understands Gaiman’s offer is not an admission of wrongdoing following a podcast from Tortoise Media that chronicled accounts of two women, with whom he was in consensual relationships, who accused him of sexual assault. Another two have since come forward. Gaiman’s position is that he denies the allegations and is said to be disturbed by them.

Exactly what “stepping back” would entail, if it happens, remains a mystery for now, but the resulting changes could be substantial. Gaiman is not only the Good Omens showrunner and series creator but also a scriptwriter in adapting his jointly penned book with Terry Pratchett. So, this would not be a simple extraction if Amazon decides to proceed without Gaiman’s involvement on the final season of the earth-bound affairs of angelic Aziraphale (Martin Sheen) and the devilish Crowley (David Tennant). Nor has Netflix’s currently running Geeked Week revealed more about The Sandman‘s return date.

In other words, further news will endure the waiting game until further notice.

Former Bad Boy Artist Shyne Distances Himself From Diddy, Who He Claims ‘Destroyed My Life’

Moses Barrow Shyne 2021

Diddy is on people’s minds right now, given that his sex trafficking and other charges are still fresh news. Now, a former associate has offered his perspective on the situation.

Shyne (real name Moses Barrow) spoke about Diddy with the media yesterday (September 18). As a rapper, Shyne — who is now a politician, currently the Leader Of The Opposition in the Belize House Of Representatives — was signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. In June 2001, he was convicted of assault and sentenced to 10 years in prison, over an incident at a nightclub that involved Diddy.

When Shyne spoke about Diddy, he distanced himself from his former boss, who he said “pretty much sent me to prison” and “destroyed my life.” He said:

“When I was an 18-year-old kid, just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and do what all of us wanted to do: be recognized for my talent and take over the world, I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. He contributed… he pretty much sent me to prison. That is the context by which you must always describe that relationship. Yes, I forgave, I moved on, but let us not pretend as if I was in Miami for Thanksgiving and Christmas. […]

So, let us not lose sight of what the cold, hard facts are. This was not someone who I vacationed with and who he and I enjoyed this great, intimate relationship of brotherhood. This is someone who destroyed my life, and who I forgave, and who I moved on and for the better interest of Belize, because he was in a position at that time to give scholarships and to maybe invest, I would not deny attempting to bring the investment to Belize and contribution to education to Belize.

But don’t distort it as if he and I were boom bally. This is someone that destroyed my life. But do I take any joy, any satisfaction, with what he is going through? Absolutely not. I am different than other people: No one needs to fail for me to succeed.”

Zach Bryan Clarified His Controversial Post About Kanye West And Taylor Swift: ‘I Wasn’t Coming For Taylor’

Zach Bryan In Concert - Detroit, MI
Getty Image

Earlier this week, Zach Bryan posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Eagles > Chiefs Kanye > Taylor who’s with me.” Bryan explained that he wasn’t trying to demean Taylor Swift and “drunkenly tweeted about Kanye,” but the backlash still caused him to deactivate his X account. As of this writing, Bryan’s X account remains deactivated, but he further explained himself across several Instagram Story posts on Thursday, September 19.

“For the record guys I wasn’t coming for Taylor the other night,” Bryan wrote in his first post, which also showed Swift’s “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. “I was drunkenly comparing two records, and it came out wrong. I know there’s a lot of stuff that clouds around Ye, and I was speaking purely musically. I love Taylor’s music and pray you guys know I’m human and tweet stupid things often. Hope one day I can explain this to her. Twitter gets me in trouble too much, and I’d say it’s best I stay off it. I’m sorry to any Taylor fans I pissed off or let down. Love you guys and I’m trying my best!”

Bryan’s following post was soundtracked by Swift’s “The Albatross.” He wrote, “I’ve been going through a hard time in my own life, and I think I was projecting a little. To be completely honest, it just came off as rude and desensitized to Taylor. I respect her so much as a musician that the last thing I want is people thinking I don’t appreciate and love what she has done for music. Okay, that’s the last of it! Love you guys and hope you guys understand. Don’t drink and tweet. Don’t drink and tweet!!”

That was not the last of it.

Bryan posted again — this time, to the tune of Swift’s “Castles Crumbling (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]” featuring Hayley Williams. He wrote, “Not saving face here, but Taylor has been a force of nature for as long as we’ve all been growing up, and I admire that. I’m gonna go listen to this record now. I never want people to think I have a hint of malice or meanness towards anyone, ever, that’s why I’m saying all this. Everyone have the best day of all time, I love ya.”

One more time!

Bryan’s final of this four-post Instagram Story string reads:

“This year has been an awful lot on me in personal ways that no one knows, and I’ve been trying to cope and balance too many things at once. So I’m going to take a breather from tweeting stupid stuff, finish my tour, and ground myself somehow in the midst of all this. I feel very, very blessed each day.

Not taking it for granted and holding onto it has been so important to me. Okay, needed to get this off my chest, y’all are the best and I’ll see you at Bourbon & Beyond.”

Bryan is headlining Bourbon & Beyond at Highland Festival Grounds in Louisville, Kentucky this Saturday, September 21.

Does ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Have A Season 5 Premiere Date Yet?

law-and-meloni-3.jpg
NBC

Traditionally speaking, currently running Law & Order series tend to premiere on the same night. This season happens to be different. Both the flagship series and Law & Order: SVU are returning on October 3 without Organized Crime in tow.

Do not worry, however. The Christopher Meloni-starring undercover adventure has not been cancelled, although that renewal came slow with NBCUniversal eventually revealing that the show would continue exclusively on Peacock (for streaming) for the fifth season. This late-date renewal also put production behind the other series, but also, this spin off doesn’t have to worry about adhering to a team-approach timetable for return.

Although this could be a bummer for Meloni lovers, this also sounds promising because, hey, Organized Crime might now be a way to bridge gaps in between seasons when SVU and the main series go on hiatus. Also, Meloni has been writing part of the fifth season, and we want to make sure that he does right by Elliot Stabler, and if that takes more time, so be it.

Does Law & Order: Organized Crime Have A Season 5 Premiere Date?

Jokes aside, Organized Crime does not have a publicized return date yet. The latest word from Deadline on the spin off is that casting is still somewhat underway for new characters, so it does sound probable that this show will not return until the other two current Law & Order shows go on hiatus. In other words, bet on late Spring or early Summer 2025. If you are impatient for Meloni, however, the first four seasons are on Peacock for the taking.

Selena Gomez Took A Big Step Towards Getting Nominated For Her First Oscar

Selena Gomez didn’t win an Emmy this week. But how about an Oscar?

Variety reports that Gomez is being submitted for Best Supporting Actress at the 97th Academy Awards for her performance in Jacques Audiard’s film Emilia Pérez, along with her co-stars Zoe Saldaña and Adriana Paz. Karla Sofía Gascón, who plays the title role, is in the running for lead. This doesn’t mean the Only Murders In The Building star will be nominated, and Saldaña has a bigger role, but the fact that she’s even being considered shows how far she’s come from her Wizards Of Waverly Place days (although not too far).

Emilia Pérez is a part musical, part crime drama about a Mexican drug-cartel boss seeking gender-affirming surgery.

Gomez talked with E! News about what it was like to work with Audiard, who previously directed A Prophet and Rust And Bone. “I think it was genuinely his mind and how he works,” she said. “He has this way of making me feel like, as an actor, I was a blank canvas.” Gomez added, “He didn’t see me as anything other than [her character] Jessi. I loved that. I felt like I could be whoever I wanted to be. It was very empowering.”

Emilia Pérez premieres on Netflix on November 13. Watch the trailer below.

What To Watch For In The NFL, Week 3

NFL Week 3 preview(1024x450)
Getty Image/Merle Cooper

The story of the first two weeks of the NFL season has been defense. Scoring is down, passing stats are way down, and some folks are having a hard tome dealing with the way defenses have adapted to modern offenses. The question, of course, is how long will that continue and at what point will offenses find the counters to what defenses have done to slow them down.

That’s dependent on team and talent, especially on the offensive line where I think many of the league-wide problems start. If you can’t protect (especially against four-man rushes), you can’t throw down the field, and if your line isn’t a strength, you won’t be effective running the ball even against lighter boxes. The good news is, line play tends to improve as the season goes on (pending health) as groups get more comfortable with one another and build the continuity and chemistry needed to deal with the quality of defensive fronts in the NFL today.

With that in mind, Week 3 will be fascinating to see if some teams can start getting themselves out of the mud, especially teams we thought were going to be real factors as Super Bowl contenders prior to the season. Here, we’re taking a look at the Week 3 slate to highlight the games we’ll be keeping an eye on as some teams already find themselves facing a bit of desperation.

Primetime Game of the Week: Jaguars at Bills (Monday 9/23, 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN)

The best games of the week on paper are not part of the primetime slate in Week 3, but of the four options (it’s a MNF doubleheader this week) I’m most intrigued by Jags-Bills. We just saw Buffalo demolish the Dolphins in Miami, but that’s become a trend for the Bills against their divisional foes. Jacksonville, meanwhile, is inventing ways to lose games, having blown a huge lead to Miami and then refused to score points against the Browns despite Cleveland’s best efforts to give them the game. This game will be interesting almost no matter the outcome, because we’ll either see the Jaguars finally put it together offensively for four quarters or we will see Doug Pederson’s seat heat up in real time.

Sunday Funday Game of the Week: Texans at Vikings (Sunday 9/22, 1:00 p.m. ET, CBS) and Ravens at Cowboys (Sunday 9/22, 4:25 p.m. ET, FOX)

This is the best Sunday afternoon slate of the early season, with a ton of interesting games. I couldn’t pick just one here, so I’m rolling with a game in the early and late window on Sunday. The Vikings showed they’re the real deal with a win over San Francisco last week and now welcome Houston into town in a battle of 2-0 teams. The Texans did horrible things to Caleb Williams on Sunday night defensively, but their offense couldn’t finish drives and kept the Bears in the game until extremely late in the fourth quarter. They’ll need to tighten up offensively against a feisty Minnesota defense, while the Vikings will face another stiff test as an offense going up against this Texans D. This has a chance to be an absolute treat and we should learn a lot about both squads.

The national game of the week on FOX has a much more desperate vibe than Texans-Vikings. The Ravens badly need a win to avoid an 0-3 start after an inexplicable loss to the Raiders at home on Sunday. The Baltimore offense has not really gotten out of first gear yet, and will need their best game of the season here. The Cowboys, meanwhile, got lit up by the Saints last week and very quickly lost any shine they had from beating down the Browns in Week 1. Whichever team loses this game is going to be the focal point of every TV and radio talk show next week, and we don’t often get a matchup between expected contenders that will be this desperate for a win in Week 3, so it ought to be tense and fun to watch.

Under the Radar Banger: Eagles at Saints (Sunday 9/22, 1:00 p.m. ET, FOX)

Are the Saints just the best offense in football? Everyone kind of shrugged off their Week 1 performance on account of playing Carolina, but after dismantling the Dallas defense, they have the league’s full attention. Now they head to Philly to face an Eagles team that is coming off a pretty embarrassing loss on Monday Night Football to the Falcons, giving up a late TD march to Kirk Cousins and company with almost no resistance in the last two minutes. The Eagles pass rush has not shown up as expected, and if they can’t get to Derek Carr, he and the Saints have shown they can light it up.

Who Won The MVP Last Week: Marvin Harrison Jr.

The top receiver taken in the Draft needed a week to get his feet underneath him, but the former Ohio State standout showed why he was considered a future All-Pro coming into the league in Week 2 when he caught 4 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns as the Cardinals torched the Rams to improve to 1-1. While the MVP has become a QB award, the best passing performance last week came from Kyler Murray and half of his passing production went to Harrison, so we want to highlight the young star receiver who showcased all his talents as a route-runner, pass catcher, and even improvisor down the field.

Best Bet (0-2): Chargers vs. Steelers UNDER 35.5

Look, it’s not been a good start in this space (or over in Winners), so it’s time to get back to what I know which is Unders. Neither the Chargers nor the Steelers have played in a game that’s reached 35 points this season and yet both are 2-0 –Pittsburgh hasn’t even been involved in a game that’s touched 30. These teams are not here to throw the ball around the yard or run tempo or do any of that Mickey Mouse nonsense. They are here to see how many tight ends we can fit into a formation and run the dang ball. It’s the lowest total on the board this week and I don’t think it’s low enough. Give me the Under and let’s watch some proper football.

Will There Be An ‘Industry’ Season 4′ On HBO?

industry-season-3-harper-yasmin
HBO/WBD

Industry is doing a pretty good job of filling the Kendall Roy-shaped hole in our hearts thanks to the over-the-top finance drama and the inclusion of Kit Harington. So HBO knows it would be silly to stop now.

HBO has officially ordered a fourth season of the drama as the third season comes to a close. Executive Vice President of HBO Programming Francesca Orsi pointed towards an expanding fanbase with the announcement. “For three seasons, INDUSTRY has been unflinching in its examination of ambition and class, solidifying itself as a marquee HBO drama. Under Mickey and Konrad’s singular vision, this twisted, thrilling look at London finance has redefined the contemporary workplace show. We’re so excited that viewers and critics have recognized season three as bigger and better than ever, buoyed by sublime performances from our unparalleled cast.”

None of the core cast have been confirmed (yet) to return, but we can hope and assume that the gang will be on board, including Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Harry Lawtey, and Ken Leung. HBO also revealed that season three is averaging 1.6 million viewers per episode, an increase from last season.

The renewal comes after an HBO time slot change in order to make some room for Colin Farrell in The Penguin. Be sure to plan your Gotham visit accordingly. The final two episodes of Industry season three will drop on Sept. 22 and 29 at 9 pm on Max, as well as 10 pm on HBO.

Just when it appeared that Sabrina Carpenter had exhausted all possible firsts in 2024, Netflix announced Carpenter’s first-ever holiday variety music special.

A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter will stream exclusively on Friday, December 6, at 6 p.m. PT and 9 p.m. ET. According to the announcement, “The holiday special will showcase pop icon Carpenter performing songs from her holiday EP fruitcake and other chart-topping holiday covers, and feature guest performing artists, comedic cameos, and unexpected duets.”

The official teaser trailer is soundtracked by Carpenter’s “Nonsense” and shows Carpenter saying, “Expecting someone else?” Mariah Carey’s Christmas monopoly is in danger. Of course, in true Sabrina Carpenter fashion, Netflix’s caption reads, “This is really gonna jingle your bells.”

Carpenter produced A Nonsense Christmas alongside Michael D. Ratner’s OBB Pictures.

Carpenter currently owns the No. 1 album in the country with Short N’ Sweet, and her supporting Short N’ Sweet Tour will begin on Monday, September 23, in Columbus, Ohio. See all of Carpenter’s upcoming tour dates here.

Carpenter’s massive 2024 has been fueled by “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” the latter of which serving as her first-career No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Last week, Carpenter performed “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” and “Taste” while making out with an alien at the 2024 MTV VMAs. Again, it’s been a year of surprising firsts.
