Yesterday (September 28), Uproxx cover star Muna dedicated one slice of their set to Chappell. In lieu of her absence, Muna performed a cover of Chappell Roan’s breakout single, “Good Luck, Babe!” (viewable here). Although this isn’t the first time another musician sang the tune (hi, fellow Uproxx cover star Jonas Brothers), Muna’s take touched Chappell Roan fans in the crowd given her recent decision to bow out of the festival.
In a note, Chappell Roan outlined her need for a break to tend to her health. Read her full statement below.
I apologize to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I am unable to perform. Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks, and I am really feeling it.
I feel pressures to prioritize a lot of things right now, and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible. Thank you for understanding.
Sabrina Carpenter may be short and sweet, but apparently the pop star has a heavy impact in federal meeting rooms. According to the New York Post, the “Please Please Please” singer might have been the jumping point for New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams‘ recent indictment (wire fraud, one count of conspiracy, two counts of solicitation of a contribution from a foreign national and one count of bribery).
In the outlet’s report, it alleged that following Sabrina Carpenter’s “Feather” music video saga, Reverend Monsignor Jamie J. Gigantiello of Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn (the church featured in Carpenter’s video) was eventually subpoenaed regarding his business dealings. Investigators then learned that he was allegedly connected to Adams’ former chief of staff Frank Carone.
When asked about the relationship Brooklyn Diocese officials tried to avoid implicating him further, saying: “It would be inappropriate to comment further on that review, which is still ongoing.”
However, the individual didn’t seem to deny that it could be some truth to the connection between Gigantiello and Carone. “The Diocese is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in all investigations,” they said. “Including conduct at individual parishes or involving any priest.”
The statement does not validate that Sabrina Carpenter’s video led to the investigation, fans have playfully dubbed her the savior of New York City.
“Oh, Sabrina saving pop music and the real world,” wrote one user.
“Sabrina Carpenter saved New York,” joked another.
For the fun of it, watch Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for “Feather” above.
JAG spin off NCIS (that’s right) is currently going strong through its 22nd season. Many special agents and forensic scientists have come and gone, and the flagship series has spawned several location-based spin offs (including New Orleans, Los Angeles, and Sydney). Most recently, CBS cancelled NCIS: Hawai’iafter a cliffhanger, but that does not signal danger for the overall ship since two more spin offs are coming.
CBS and Paramount+ will soon debut NCIS: Origins to travel back in time when Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) had recently left his U.S. Marines sniper career to investigate naval crimes. In the present, the other spin off will follow Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) after their characters left NCIS under separate yet connected circumstances years ago. There’s a lot of history there, both romantic and professional, so let’s piece together some clues on what we can expect from NCIS: Tony And Ziva.
Cast
Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly will bring their chemistry back across the pond as Ziva and Tony, and their daughter, Tali, will be portrayed by Emelia Golfieri. They will be joined by a cast of at least eight regulars to portray various Interpol officials, intelligence agents, employees from Tony’s company, and a master hacker. Those actors include James D’Arcy, Isla Gie, Maximilian Osinski, Nassima Benchicou, Julian Ovenden, Amita Suman, Terence Maynard, and Lara Rossi.
Plot
The two new spin offs were both announced back in February with NCIS: Origins coming together incredibly fast for an October premiere. NCIS: Tony and Ziva, however, sounds like a more complicated production, beginning with the filming location: Budapest. This spin off’s story, however, is based in Paris, so why is production taking place in Hungary and not France? For starters, the recent Olympics were taking up a bit of space, and perhaps the TV gods also didn’t want Ziva and Tony stealing thunder from Emily In Paris and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
(I’m half joking about that last sentence but can you imagine Ziva pulling out the knives and martial arts on walkers? She’d somehow be as powerful as Daryl with a rocket launcher in his arms and a crossbow on his back.)
NCIS devotees know that this show reunites Ziva and Tony after he had believed she was dead (he was shown crying in the aftermath) in Season 13. Tony soon left the scene to raise Tali himself, but as it turns out, Ziva faked her death, as it was revealed years later. Fast forward to now, and Weatherly and de Pablo have been almost too happy to be back together when filming began in early July. To that end, they promised (via a Paramount statement) that “[t]he world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter.”
What has Tony been doing for all this time? Beyond staying abreast of endless movie trivia, he’s been running a security company in France, and that relative peace gets shattered, according to the Paramount description:
When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.
They will, however, have at least some difficulty reaching “happily ever after” because, as de Pablo told Variety, they will have mega-trust issues, which is only to be expected when a partner fakes their death. Geez:
“I think the idea of trust, and the idea of how this relationship moves forward is something that was intriguing to us as actors. We’re trying to address the idea of trust and we’re trying to address how they move forward parenting together with this child and trying to make things work and having a lot of challenges thrown at them.”
No more death faking, Ziva. DiNozzo’s heart can only take so much. 🙁
Release Date
CBS has revealed that NCIS will premiere on Oct. 14 with a two-hour premiere. That spin off will also stream on Paramount+, which is actually where NCIS: Tony And Ziva will primarily live, rather than CBS. At this time, this international spin off doesn’t have a publicized release date, but plan on 2025.
Trailer
Michael Weatherly hasn’t excitedly taken to Instagram (yet) to post a trailer himself, but he has probably already cut one in his mind. Paramount+ is keeping new footage top secret, so we will have to make do with a compilation of Ziva putting her Mossad training to good use:
Given the late “Hell Song” rapper’s documented history of tending to his physical health supporters couldn’t imagine that he pass so suddenly. Many entertainers including Joe Budden and Page Kennedy expressed their shock with touching tributes.
Now, Chino XL’s family have bravely come out to reveal his cause of death. In a statement Chino XL’s shared that he tragically committed suicide. “With the most profound sadness imaginable, we share the news that our beloved father decided to end his own Life,” read the statement. “It’s been the most painful and personal experience of our lives but in honor of Suicide Awareness Month, we decided to share this truth. Dad would hope that this news may help someone else stay alive.”
According to HipHopDX, the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office documented the details of Chino XL’s suicide as asphyxia resulted by ligature hanging.
Chino XL’s surviving daughters reflected highly on their father legacy after announcing his death. “Our father had many titles,” they wrote. “King of Punchlines, Puerto Rican Superhero — but the most important one was Girl Dad. And what he gave us most in that role was his strength, straightforwardness, and ability to be super realistic. The main thing we are feeling now is that our Dad is at peace, and so we are at peace.”
Every single week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.
This doesn’t promise to be the easiest, breeziest, most feel-good watch of the weekend, but damn, the performances are well worth the tissue usage. Elizabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon, and Natasha Lyonne portray sisters whose father will soon bid farewell to this mortal coil, and the world was not prepared for Natasha Lyonne to blow everybody out of the water here. She strikes the perfect blend of funny, raw, and nuanced, and also I’d like to see her troll an awards show while remarking, “Sunday, what a concept.”
Director Jane Schoenbrun (We’re All Going to the World’s Fair) and producer Emma Stone came together for this A24 film that revolves around a teenager, Owen (Justice Smith), who is “just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show – a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own,” and “[i]n the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.” UPROXX talked with the film’s soundtrack artists about their favorite TV shows growing up, too.
8. Dark Winds – AMC series streaming on AMC Plus and Netflix
If there was ever any doubt about the power of plopping existing shows onto Netflix, let the newfound audience of this stellar AMC series be an example for the future. Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee books are finally receiving their full due on the small screen to shine light on a series that takes great pains to employ majority Native American writers, crew and cast in order to tell Indigenous stories authentically. With a third season coming in early 2025, there’s zero time like the present to dive into this crime drama, which seems to make executive producer George R.R. Martin so much happier than the most recent season of House of the Dragon.
Aaron Pierre delivers a potentially Bond-making turn in Jeremy Saulnier’s action-conspiracy thriller about an ex-Marine who receives an unwelcome stop from police, who — long story short and to avoid spoilers — messed with the wrong guy. This film carries First Blood vibes but leans more cerebral and does so more successfully than Reacher, which of course is a crowd pleaser on its own merits. The film co-stars Don Johnson, playing another bad cop here (see also HBO’s Watchmen) who ain’t no Sonny Crockett.
Gary Oldman does not want to let go anytime soon of this series that he absolutely loves due to being a spymaster who can let his gas fly onscreen, unlike James Bond. This year, the action follows Mick Herron’s fourth Slough House novel, Spook Street, and we are truly living in a golden age of TV streaming takes on prolific spy book series, but this show occupies a special spot in showcasing intelligence agents who do not have their own sh*t together but still must protect society from those who aim to destroy it.
WandaVision launched the Disney+ MCU shows with much fanfare that has since lost its intensity, but that first show’s spin off brings Kathryn Hahn’s powerful witch back (there’s a catch there) and adds witchy Aubrey Plaza, too. Additionally, this series surprised everybody by debuting with a nude scene that far surpasses the Captain America jokes about “America’s Ass.” Hey, this could be a new Marvel Studios phase in more ways than one.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman sits outside the DCU, as does this spin off show with Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot navigating the Gotham underworld’s power vacuum and finding exactly where he fits in after the murder of mob boss Carmine Falcone by Paul Dano’s The Riddler. Farrell certainly gives this prosthetic-laden character his full energies with a New York accent to boot. The word “unrecognizable” is overused with transformations these days, but it’s entirely appropriate to use here.
Now that the dust has settled a bit from this season, can we please talk about Gabriel’s transformative new hairstyle? Not that he looks better or worse, but he almost looks like a completely different dude or at least a 1970s version of himself. Then again, this isn’t quite as bizarre as Emily supposedly cutting her own bangs and having them magically grow back without a word from anybody. Meanwhile, Daryl Dixon is also running around France and still isn’t a fan of shampoo, so perhaps Paris is the Bermuda Triangle of odd hair behavior these days. Oh, and if you are still amazed at how appealing Emily Cooper’s adventures are, it’s time to stop resisting and just go with it.
The third season finale is already upon the Pierpoint crew, and even though Harper works elsewhere now, she’s been there in spirit, even if what she’s been doing is rather devilish. We already saw her and Yasmin engage in an unholy fight, but do not worry, Rob’s heart remains pure, and he remains the only core character who can claim that status, although everybody else at least have a few decades before they turn into Eric. No matter what happens in this week’s finale, rest assured that HBO has already granted this series a fourth season, and it’s no surprise why that happened early. This show has managed to grow its audience over the course of the third season’s run, and that’s an accomplishment rarely seen on TV these days, especially in the quick-to-be-cancelled streaming era.
1. Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story – Netflix series
2022’s Monster: Dahmer drew not only true crime junkies but enough curious Netflix subscribers to qualify as a true Ryan Murphy anthology series with more to come. That first season still sits at #3 on Netflix’s Top 10 English-speaking TV series of all time, which is higher than every single Bridgerton season out there. This season purports to chronicle acts by the Menendez brothers, who were convicted in 1996 for the murdering their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez, and this season is somehow proving to be as controversial as its predecessor.
Sabrina Carpenter’s catchy lines have earned her a solid fan base, a clever MLB broadcast inclusion, and chart-topping pop songwriter. But while fellow music superstar Adele can’t seem to shake the “Taste” singer’s tunes, another legend hasn’t had the same issue.
Yesterday (September 27), Dionne Warwick sat down with NPR for a special edition of Nobody Asked For This (viewable here), the living pop music legend ranked the genre’s most popular tracks. However, when asked if Sabrina Carpenter’s line about singers’ late working hours on “Espresso” resonated with her, Warwick simply replied, “It does not.”
The track’s full stanza goes: “I’m working late ’cause I’m a singer / Oh, he looks so cute wrapped around my finger/ My twisted humor make him laugh so often / My honey bee, come and get this pollen.”
But before Sabrina Carpenter fans begin to sharpen their pitchforks, earlier in the chat Warwick did praise another Short N’ Sweet track.
When asked about her thoughts on “Please Please Please,” to which Warwick replied: “Well, maybe we’ll give this a 4 and a half [Dionnes out of 5].”
The ranking of “Please Please Please” tied Sabrina Carpenter with Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” on the legend’s list of impressive pop tunes of today.
So, it is safe to say Dionne Warwick is a fan of Sabrina Carpenter’s charismatic approach to music.
The only problem is Lady Gaga nor her fiancée Michael Polansky announced the joyous occasion. While sitting down with The Graham Norton Show, Lady Gaga laughed off the French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s media team accidentally leaking the news.
“We actually got engaged on April 1,” she said. “I thought he was joking. He was not. But yeah it was really nice.”
The “Die With A Smile” singer then addressed the news of her engagement intentionally making the news. After that we went to the Paris Olympics and the prime minister had his people filming us they were saying hello,” she said. “They caught me saying, ‘Oh, this is my fiancée,’ and I was trying to keep it hidden. But they announced it to everyone. But that was kind of fun.”
Although shortly after the video went viral, Lady Gaga did confirm it, it surely would have been nice if she could have held on to the personal milestone a bit longer.

Has Ye (more commonly known as Kanye West) abandoned the rumored Vultures 3 project with Ty Dolla Sign? Well, that the question fans of the musical duo are asking themselves today (September 28).
During the “Talking/Once Again” rapper’s latest concert in Haikou, China, he announced his next solo studio album. In front of the packed Wuyuan River Stadium crowd, Kanye West confirmed that his next back of work, Bully, will be released soon.
“I got a new album coming out,” he said. “The album’s called ‘Bully,’ and this song is called ‘Beauty and the Beast.’”
In the video captured by concertgoers. (viewable here), Kanye West then graciously debuted the track. “I still think about it every night and day to try to stay away, to keep my audience / Don’t take this disrespect, I’m sitting here trying to redirect,” sings West.
Fans immediately began to look for clues regarding the forthcoming project. The first sprinkle of information came from Mike Dean, a longtime collaborator of Kanye West. Over on Instagram (viewable here), the producer seemed to confirm support theories that West would be reworking vaulted songs, by writing: “Donda leftover.”
Ordinarily the comment could come off as passive-aggressive (especially considering their history), but keeping in mind the supposed mountain of legal blowback from his Vultures album pulling from his own work might be best. However, the 2021 album also faced copyright infringement lawsuits.
No updates were provided regarding the future of Vultures 3.
Yesterday (September 27), Bright Eyes announced that they would be cancelling their remaining live shows through the end of 2024 due to Conor Oberst’s ongoing medical issues with his vocals. Before you ask yourself, yes that includes their scheduled appearance at Best Friends Forever Festival in Las Vegas. In a statement shared on the band’s official Instagram page, Bright Eyes went on to assure their support that after Oberst’s treatment they should be all good to hammer out the 2025 tour dates in support of their Five Dice, All Threes album.
Continue below to read Bright Eyes’ full statement.
We regret to announce that we will have to cancel our shows for the rest of the year including in Los Angeles, Oakland, Las Vegas and Europe. We love our fans and are incredibly disappointed that we won’t be able to play these shows. All tickets for headline shows will be refunded at point of purchase, and we will keep everyone posted on plans for rescheduling.
Over the past week, Conor has undergone multiple tests to determine the cause of his recent vocal problems. It’s come to light that he has developed a condition that is exacerbated by excessive singing, requiring both treatment and recuperation. We are confident that with a successful regimen, and continued medical attention, we will be able to return to the road next year.
Dolly Parton may not consider the act to be a blatant dismissive of her record-recording release, but supporters feel otherwise. To add fuel to the Texas hot flame, Beyoncé didn’t take home any wins following the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards despite receiving the second-highest amount of nominations (17 total) including Social Country Star, Album, Song, two for Female Song, Collaboration Song, two for Cover Song, Crossover Song, Storyteller Song, Female Artist, and People’s Artist.
Following the blowout loss, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam the award show.
“They definitely were hating on her,” remarked one user.
“Not 1, but all 12 of her nominations? Oh yeah, I’m tearing some sh*t up today,” chimed another.
“The People’s Choice my f*cking ass,” penned another.
“How do you lose despite getting the most votes,” questioned another.
“So the People’s Choice Country Awards uses an electoral college,” asked one user.
Others began to predict that this could be a trend going into next year’s award season.
“This might be her first era without winning awards ,” wrote one user.
Beyoncé hasn’t publicly addressed the matter.
