Once again the youngins are flabbergasting the older generations with their disregard of things they deem unnecessary. There’s always something that gets dropped or altered generation to generation. We learn better ways or technology makes certain things obsolete. But it doesn’t matter how far we’ve come, our beds still need sheets to cover the mattress.

The debate is on the use of top sheets, also known as flat sheets. They’re the sheets that keep your body from touching the comforter, most Gen X and Boomers are firmly for the use of top sheets as a hygiene practice. The idea being that the top sheet keeps your dead skin cells and body oils from dirtying your comforter, causing you to have to wash it more often.

Apparently Millennials and Gen Zers are uninterested in using a top sheet while sleeping. In fact, they’d rather just get a duvet cover, though they may be cumbersome. A duvet cover can be washed fairly frequently, while some may opt for a cheeper comforter that they don’t care is washed often because their distain for a top sheet is that strong.

But why on earth do Millennials and Gen Zers hate top sheets? It turns out it’s mostly about practicality. Many Millennials are on the move holding a full time job and a side hustle or two to make ends meet, adding and extra step when making the bed seems unnecessary.

“For a younger demographic, eliminating that step when making the bed in the morning really gives you a jump start on the day,” Ariel Kay, CEO of Parachute tells Wall Street Journal.

Parachute is a company that offers bedding sets sans top sheets for folks that just don’t like them and boy has Kay heard everyone’s unsolicited opinions on the matter. She told WSJ that people will stop her on the street to get into debates about the importance or unimportance of top sheets. Yikes.

In a since deleted tweet, @JesseLynnHarte writes, “People say millennials “killed” chain restaurants, marriage, & napkins… But WHEN will they acknowledge our greatest take-down yet?? TOP SHEETS. I don’t know a single millennial who uses one. Top sheets are archaic. This is just the truth.”

It would seem that Millennials and Gen Z would much rather wash their duvet covers weekly than to add a flat sheet into the mix. One big complaint about the flat sheet that adds another con to the list is they get bunched up or tangled around your legs if you’re a restless sleeper. Not everyone likes hotel tucked corners on their sheets because it can feel confining.

But if you run hot, Boomers and Gen Xers have got the thing for you–a top sheet. It would seem that that thin piece of material that irritates some people can act as a sort of temperature control according to USA Today. Even if you don’t tend to need the cooling effect of a top sheet, what Mary Johnson, Tide Principal Scientist at Procter & Gamble has to say in a USA Today follow up article, just may make you rethink ditching the top sheet.

Simply by existing, “people produce one liter of sweat, 40 grams of sebum, 10 grams of salt, and 2 billion skin cells. All that stuff that happens below the waist [and] up by your head—skincare products, hair care products, ear wax, snot, drool, lots of really gross stuff—is transferred to your sheets,” Johnson tells the outlet.

So whether you’re team top sheet or not, it may be a good idea to at least wash whatever you use to cover your bed at least once a week.

Summer is just around the corner and that means a multitude of things, especially if the season is your favorite. One of those things is the return of Love Island UK as the British reality show gears up for its eleventh season and second of the year following this past winter’s Love Island: All Stars season. Longtime fans have come to expect the summer season of Love Island UK to air some time in June, and today, the show finally unveiled an official premiere date.

When Does Love Island UK Season 11 Start For 2024?

In posts to their social media accounts today, Love Island UK revealed that its eleventh season will premiere on June 3. They shared the news with the caption “We’re coming in hot! [fire emoji],” as well as an image of Love Island host Maya Jama standing in front of a heart-shaped ring of fire. Love Island UK season 11’s premiere will also air simultaneously on Britain’s ITV1, ITV2 and ITVX channels.

Cast members for Love Island UK season 11 have yet to be revealed, but we can expect to learn more about that in the coming days as the season premiere is just around the corner.

Camila Cabello’s latest album, C, XOXO, is now a month and change away from its late June release date. To hold the fans over, Cabello’s latest single is the Lil Nas X team-up “He Knows,” which they’ve now given a new video.

The clip’s narrative is that the two artists are going toe-to-toe over the same man, but there’s ultimately a catch.

Cabello told Rolling Stone, “I’ve just never seen that in a video before. I just loved the idea of us fighting over this fluid guy, who we don’t know which way he’s leaning. We both would have so much fun with this and have so much fun with the video, so we got to make it a reality.”

She previously said of her upcoming album, “It’s really sitting in the discomfort of things and realizing there’s not gonna be a neat, in-a-box answer. I feel strong in these ways, weak in these ways, and there’s no real clear answer here. But the album process has been such a journey. It started out with me having that intention of going back to how it started for me, which was just sitting with myself and really getting back to that first passion of songwriting. Nerding out over references and artists and poetry — whatever — and really tapping into that.”

Why do Reacher’s enemies not simply find a bigger Reacher? Well, they did!

One of the big bads (emphasis on “big”) in season 3 of Prime Video’s Reacher will be Paulie, who is described in author Lee Child’s source material as a “very big guy” who is “six inches taller” and “ten inches wider across the shoulders” than Reacher, played on the show by 6′ 3″ Alan Ritchson. Oh, and Paulie outweighs Reacher by 200 pounds. Does such a person exist? Apparently so.

Paulie will be played by Olivier Richters, new Reacher cast member Anthony Michael Hall confirmed to Cinema Blend. “He reminds me of, do you remember when we were kids? The Spy Who Loved Me, the Jaws character that Richard Kiel played? He was a literal giant, like seven foot two. That character (Paulie) does live in the show, and they have an epic battle,” Michael Hall said. “I don’t want to give it away, but yeah, they definitely meet as they do in the book… You know, Reacher and Paulie colliding – there’s something Marvel about that, right? They’re like two superhero-sized guys, so it’s kind of cool.”

Richters, who appeared in Black Widow and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, is 7′ 2″, weighs 350 pounds, and describes himself as the “tallest actor and bodybuilder in the world.” His nickname? The Dutch Giant.

Over the past few years, some of the stars of hip-hop’s Golden Era have experienced career resurgences by getting back to their roots and teaming up with producers whose energy matches their own. For instance, Nas hooked up with Hit-Boy to release a string of albums that many fans called his best in years.

Common is the latest ’90s mainstay to mine his youth for inspiration, teaming up with Pete Rock for “Wise Up,” a new single that evokes the spirit of gritty, sample-driven battle rap.

“‘Wise Up’ represents the coming together of a New York Producer and a Chicago MC doing the hip-hop we love,” the near-EGOT winner explained in the press release for the single. “It feels like the spirit of where we come from, the boom bap, the basement, but it also feels forward and new. We wanted this to be the first joint because this record captures a new sound and is a new light but speaks directly to our hip-hop family.”

The song is Common’s first new track since the 2021 release of his fourteenth album, A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2. However, his profile still looms large over hip-hop; Com’s fellow Chicagoan also teamed up with a New York boom-bap producer, DJ Premier, on his new single, “Together,” which samples Premier’s prior collab with Common, “The Sixth Sense.”

Nelly Furtado is back. Though the Canadian hitmaker has dropped a couple of singles over the past year — including the Dom Dolla collab “Eat Your Man” and the Timbaland and Justin Timberlake collab, “Keep Going Up” — fans have been itching for a proper comeback. And it looks like a Nelly Furtado renaissance is on the horizon. Today (May 22), Furtado dropped her hotly anticipated new single, “Love Bites,” featuring Tove Lo and SG Lewis.

Over a hypnotic beat, Furtado sounds more excited than ever before, as she makes a big pivot into the realm of dance music. With more than two decades into the game, Furtado sounds just as fresh as she did when she first stepped onto the scene as she matches Lo’s randy, lustful energy over SG’s throbbing production.

“I felt called back to music from the DJ community,” said Furtado in a statement. “DJs were remixing my songs at concerts, clubs, and on social media, and I realized how much people like to dance and escape to my music. It’s the healthiest vice you can have, and I love the opportunity to write music that lets people escape more than anything.”

When Hugh Jackman closed out his role of Old Man Logan in Logan, we all thought that that was it for the grumpy guy. And it was supposed to be! Now we know that you can take the man out of the spandex, but you can’t take the industrial grade steel out of the man, so Wolverine is back… again.

This time, Wolvy is going head-to-head with Deadpool in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, but Jackman told Variety that he decided to come back to reprise Logan on his own, without even consulting his team.

“I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan [Reynolds]. For Deapdool and Wolverine to come back together,” he explained. “I swear to you, When I said I was done, I really thought I was done. But in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like, ‘Those two characters together.’ I knew it, I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew.”

Jackman just knew, which is why he decided to take on the role before even running it by his agent. “Soon as I arrived, I rang Ryan. And I just said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one. I had to ring my agent and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie.’” The rest was history.

It’s a little risky that Jackman committed to the film before talking to his agent. What if his agent was already hard at work trying to get the actor a role in Les Misérables 2? This is why you always check your schedule first.

Dreams really do come true. Or at least they do for Ella Purnell.

The Fallout actress is the star of the biggest TV show of 2024 and she’s already worked with one of her two “dream” filmmakers.

Back when she was 18, Purnell had to decide whether to continue working as an actor or go to college and become a teacher. “I was like, ‘Okay, I’m done with school. Acting was a fun little side hustle that’s going to fund my gap year. I’m gonna travel the world and find myself.’ I wouldn’t say I did. I drank a lot. I saw a lot of Australia very drunk,” she told Vulture. Then Purnell was offered a role in a movie directed by a legend.

Just after this period of self-exploration, she was offered her big break in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. She had been an admirer of movies by filmmakers with an idiosyncratic vision and distinct style — films with a trademark look that could have been made only by one person. “I didn’t have many dreams, but I had one and it was to work with Tim Burton or Wes Anderson. And I got it,” she says. “At the same time, I was like, ‘F*ck, no, this was my chance to go to university and start a different life.’” Choosing the movie, she says, “was kind of bittersweet.”

Nearly a decade later, Purnell, 27, is able to see she made the correct choice. “Looking back, it’s exactly what should have happened. I’m glad I stuck with acting. I had to fall in love with it on my own account and not because of my family or my friends. Now I love it. Now I choose to do it. I had to figure that out by myself,” she said.

Kids, there’s an important lesson here: screw college. Stick with acting because you never know when you might get to work with nose-less Walton Goggins.
