Did Drake’s Label Ask Kendrick Lamar To End Their Rap Beef?

Could the long-brewing feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar finally be coming to an end? Over the course of the past few weeks, Drake and Lamar have dropped several diss tracks aimed at each other. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse, after Drake’s bodyguard was reportedly shot near Drake’s Toronto home.

Neither Drake nor Lamar have commented directly on the matter, however, neither party has dropped a diss track since the incident. Many fans are wondering if the labels have since gotten involved, asking to end the beef.

Did Drake’s label ask Kendrick Lamar to end their rap beef?

A screenshot of a supposed blind item went viral on Twitter today (May 7), alleging that Universal Music Group had reached out to Lamar and his pgLang brand, as well as The Weeknd, asking them to end the feud, and to walk back comments calling Drake a pedophile.

https://twitter.com/Phil_Lewis_/status/1788005367428854154ce

The supposed blind item noted that Drake, Nike, and other parties involved were losing a lot of money, as Drake was losing the beef.

However, TMZ has said there is no truth to this blind item, and that the claims are entirely unfounded.

TMZ reported that sources close to the matter — who, evidently, are knowledgeable of how labels works — had not gotten involved, and likely, wouldn’t get involved with matters like this.

But given recent events, it seems as though continuing the feud would be in poor taste.

A Spanish Pro Boxer Apologized After A Physical Altercation At A ‘Garfield’ Showing In Spain

A screening of The Garfield Movie in Spain turned into a showdown.

Earlier this week, Spanish boxer Antonio Barrul, a six-time national champion at amateur level who turned pro last year, had brought his son and his wife to a showing of The Garfield Movie in León, Spain. While in attendance, Barrul noticed someone who was also there with his partner, however, he did not like the way the man was treating the woman.

Barrul walked down several rows of seats and confronted the man, before punching him, which resulted in the man falling to the ground.

Clips of the altercation soon went viral on social media. Barrul eventually went on record via Radioestadio Noche (per Daily Express) to explain what happened and to show remorse for how it went down.

“He started to threaten me and it got worse and worse until I decided to go down [to where he was sitting],” Barrul said. “I couldn’t control myself and what you see in the video happened.”

While he admits he felt justified in his reaction, he says he would handle it diffently

“I apologized in the cinema and publicly because those images do not make me proud,” he said. “What is shown in that video is not who I am. I would try to get the security to come and take him away. If security had come on time, many things could have been avoided.”

The Celtics Took Care Of Business And Hammered The Cavs In Game 1

If the Boston Celtics were rusty after not playing a basketball game in six days, you wouldn’t know it based on their performance in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Boston played host to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night, and even without the services of the injured Kristaps Porzingis, looked once again like the best team in the East. By the time the horn sounded at the end of the fourth quarter, both teams had their benches emptied, as the Celtics cruised to a 120-95 win.

The first half was a battle between Jaylen Brown and Donovan Mitchell. The two All-Star wings led their teams over the game’s opening 24 minutes, with Brown heading into the locker room with a game-high 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting with four rebounds.

Mitchell, meanwhile, continued to play at an incredibly high level, going for 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

But the thing that mattered was the scoreboard, and Brown’s team had the edge. Boston took a 59-49 lead into the locker room despite a subpar (by their lofty standards) 6-for-22 clip from behind the three-point line. It certainly helped that both Derrick White and Jayson Tatum pitched in 11 points, while Isaac Okoro was the only other Cavaliers player to hit double-figures, as he also scored 11.

Neither team was able to gain much of a foothold in the third quarter. While the Cavs weren’t able to put together the type of run that got them right back into the game — well, other than Mitchell, who had 16 points in the frame — Boston couldn’t quite go on a run that was able to put Cleveland away, even though White had 14 points in the quarter.

As a result, the Celtics were able to take a 92-77 lead into the fourth, and while it was certainly a comfortable lead, it did not feel like it was insurmountable if Mitchell was able to get a bit of help. But at the very start of the fourth, Boston was able to land a haymaker, as the team took advantage of Mitchell getting a rest at the start of the period by going on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 23.

Brown led the way for Boston, as he put up 32 points on 12-for-18 shooting with six rebounds. White continued his excellent postseason, as well, as he had 25 points and five assists, and while Tatum did not have the best night of his career, he managed to have 18 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Mitchell’s 33 points paced the Cavaliers, while Evan Mobley had 17 points and 13 rebounds on the night.

Game 2 between the Celtics and the Cavaliers will take place on Thursday night in Boston. It’s scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN.

Charli XCX Revealed She Did, In Fact, Write For Britney Spears, However, The Songs Were Never Actually Recorded

Charli XCX has many bops to her credit. Her upcoming album, Brat, boasts the viral hit, “Von Dutch.” But also, Charli has penned tracks for other artists, including Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Kim Petras, and more.

Back in January, it was revealed that Charli was planning to add some other collaborations to her impressive resume. She was rumored to have written music for an upcoming album by Britney Spears. Spears immediately shut the rumors down in an Instagram post, saying, “Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash. They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album…I will never return to the music industry!!!”

While fans were disappointed in the news, it turns out, new Spears music almost came to fruition. In an interview on Watch What Happens Live, Charli revealed that she did, in fact, write some songs, which were planned to go to Spears.

“[The news] leaked to the press,” said Charli. “Britney then did this post where she was like, ‘I don’t have random people write for me.’ And I was like, ‘Oh. OK. Go off.’ So I don’t know that she was a part of the process…the team were present… But she didn’t record it. She obviously didn’t.”

Though the collaborative process didn’t go down the way Charli would’ve liked it, she says the idea of Spears singing one of her songs would be “a dream come true.”

Mitchell Robinson Will Miss 6-8 Weeks With An Ankle Injury

The New York Knicks will likely be without yet another key player for the remainder of the playoffs, as Mitchell Robinson will join Julius Randle and Bojan Bogdanovic in street clothes after suffering a stress injury in his left ankle.

The Knicks announced Robinson will miss at least 6-8 weeks with the injury, which is to the same ankle he had surgery on earlier this year.

That timeline would mean he’ll miss at minimum the entire Eastern Conference playoffs, and would, at best, be getting re-evaluated during the Finals. That means, effectively, his season is done, as it’s hard to imagine he’d go from getting re-evaluated and through a full ramp up in the midst of the Finals. That shifts even more of the frontcourt burden onto the shoulders of Isaiah Hartenstein, who has been terrific in this postseason, and will mean more small ball minutes for the Knicks with Precious Achiuwa at the five.

In Game 1 against the Pacers, Hartenstein played 36 minutes, Robinson played 12, and Achiuwa played four (all at power forward). Now, it’ll be difficult for the Knicks to play big throughout the full 48 minutes, and Hartenstein will have to be very careful of avoiding foul trouble, as there is just no one who can replicate what he does left on the New York bench.

Jamal Murray Will Receive A $100,000 Fine But No Suspension For Throwing Things On The Floor During Game 2

Jamal Murray will indeed join the Denver Nuggets for Game 3 of their Western Conference Semifinal series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, although he will no longer have $100,000. That’s because the NBA announced on Tuesday evening that Murray avoided a suspension but received a hefty fine for his actions during Game 2.

Murray spent much of the first half frustrated with the officiating as the Wolves ran it up in Denver’s building. At one point, he went to the bench, and he appeared to reach his breaking point when Karl-Anthony Towns was not called for a travel. He went on to throw a towel onto the floor, and then, he grabbed a heat pack and threw that, as well.

The most surprising thing here was that Murray managed to avoid getting called for anything after it happened, but that was because the referees did not notice that it.

“We weren’t aware it had come from the bench,” Marc Davis, the crew chief during Game 2, told the pool reporter after the game. “If we would have been aware it came from the bench, we could have reviewed it under the hostile act trigger. The penalty would have been a technical foul.”

The Wolves picked up a 106-80 win to secure a 2-0 lead in the series. Murray had eight points on 3-for-18 shooting with 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.

Viral arguments over grandmothers and Mother’s Day may have a simple solution

In the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day, there have been several viral posts on social media about who Mother’s Day actually belongs to. A younger mom started an intense debate when she posted a video saying that the holiday should only be celebrated by the young moms currently in the trenches. The woman doesn’t believe that people should be required to spend the day with the “grandmas.”

Clearly this stance caused a few feathers to be ruffled with older moms who might happen to be grandparents. There were arguments saying that moms don’t stop being moms because their children are grown, so they too deserve to be celebrated. But through the comments of different posts making their points, a theme seemed to be developing.

There was an expectation of how things should be, whether it came from the older moms or the younger moms. There also seemed to be a lack of boundaries and clear communication. These are all things that can lead to misunderstandings and resentment.

On both sides of this viral disagreement are differing expectations. Younger moms are expecting to have a chance to be pampered while some may also be assuming their mothers and mother-in-laws are expecting the same, or at the very least expecting their adult children to visit them. Older moms are expecting recognition for the special day and some may also be expecting to be doted on by their adult children and grandchildren. Either way, both seem to be expressing unspoken and un-agreed-upon expectations.

When adult children have children, dynamics and priorities change in families. Now may be a good time to establish boundaries and new traditions around Mother’s Day that better suit everyone’s needs. Maybe there’s no lugging multiple children from grandma to grandma on Mother’s Day. That doesn’t seem fun or relaxing to the mom of those grandchildren who likely just wants a break for the day.

woman in black and white striped shirt hugging girl in black and white striped shirt

Instead think about setting a boundary while still honoring the grandmothers in your life. After all, motherhood doesn’t end because your children grow up. Setting a boundary around this special day can sound like, “We’re staying home on Mother’s Day from now on, but the kids made you crafts and I have something for you. We will drop it off on Saturday.”

This sort of boundary not only takes care of the expectation of both parties, but it also allows the grandmother to feel honored. There’s not always a need for big flashy gifts. Most grandmothers would be thrilled to get a flower made out of their grandchild’s handprint with a short poem expressing their love written on the bottom.

Some families value quality time over things, so instead of going from house to house, a new tradition can be started where your partner has a Mother’s Day cookout or brunch. All the moms in the family get together in one spot and the emphasis is on the guys and kids waiting on the moms. This way moms still get to relax and grandmas still get to be included.

There’s also the option of having Mother’s Day festivities the weekend prior for grandmas so you don’t have to feel pulled in multiple directions the day of. No matter which way you decide to go with this day dedicated to appreciating moms, make sure that you’re clear with your expectations and boundaries. It’s true that some people have a difficult time setting boundaries with their parents, but it’s a necessary step if you want to have the kind of Mother’s Day you envisioned.

Two high school students saved a teacher’s life after he went into cardiac arrest

CPR is generally not something that is taught as standard curriculum in most schools though it’s a skill that everyone should probably learn. It’s always one of those skills you don’t think about needing until you actually need to know it. Thankfully for one Detroit teacher, two of his students recently learned CPR in their nursing skills program.

Alfred Kattola teaches physical education at Oak Park High School. While playing a basketball game where students faced off against teachers for the win, Katolla started to feel winded before going into cardiac arrest. Two girls, Israel DuBose and Correy Coleman, ran to his aid to administer. The teens had only learned CPR a few months prior but immediately knew what needed to be done.

Isreal (who goes by “Izzy”), 17, and Correy, 16, worked together to get the teacher breathing again, with Correy even needing to apply the pads to the AED so the P.E. teacher could be shocked. The entire situation is a testament to how helpful knowing CPR can be.

“After realizing…staring at him for a while, I realized that from a distance he wasn’t okay so I knew to get up and go over to check his pulse,” Izzy told WDIV.

Correy explained that CPR is one of the first skills they learn in the nursing program while Izzy got choked up explaining why learning CPR was important to her. “My baby brother has seizures, so I always wanted to learn CPR to learn how help him if he ever needs that.”

As for the coach, he made a full recovery and is advocating for some sort of fundraiser to get the girls’ college fully funded so they can go on to work in the medical field helping people.

Is Kendrick Lamar & Drake’s Rap Beef Over?

Drake
Getty Image

Over the past few weeks, Drake and Kendrick Lamar have engaged in the ultimate war of words. Many diss tracks between the two parties have been released. But it seems like things may have taken a turn for the worst.

Earlier today (May 7), it was reported that Drake’s bodyguard had been shot near his Toronto home. While it’s unclear if the shooting was directly related to the Drake and Lamar’s rivalry, the events have many fans on edge. At this point, many believe that it’s time to rap the whole debaccle up.

Is Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s rap beef over?

Neither Lamar nor Drake have offered any indication that their ongoing feud is over. Nor have either of them commented on the reported shooting.

However, neither of them, nor have any of their associates, teased any upcoming diss tracks.

It’s never safe to assume that any rap beef is ever over. However, the general consensus seems to be that releasing another diss track at this time would be in poor taste.

With that said, things will likely lighten up within the rap landscape — (knocks on wood).

At the time of writing, Lamar’s most recent diss track — the Mustard-produced “Not Like Us ” — sits at No. 1 on iTunes.
