James Gunn has his work cut out for him in setting the DCEU aside and constructing the DCU for WBD. Of course, John Cena’s Peacemaker is now being grandfathered into the fold, but Creature Commandos counts as the DCU’s official launch with Gunn’s Superman (and Krypto) reboot and Lanterns among the entries set for theatrical and streaming release, respectively.

Then there’s Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow, which is slightly further down the release schedule but is a high priority for Gunn in establishing his vision for adapting DC Comics titles going forward. Let’s piece together clues on what we can expect from this movie.

Cast

Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) scored the Kara Zor-El role following an extensive search. Recently on social media, Gunn revealed a cryptic look (shown at the top of this post) of Alcock on set while confirming that cameras were rolling with Craig Gillespie as director. Gunn further called Alcock “phenomenal” in the role while adding, “Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique #Supergirl envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely & Ana Nogueira.”

Former Aquaman Jason Momoa will fill Lobo’s antagonistic shoes. Momoa had floated himself for this role during a Fandango interview, in which he called Lobo “always my favorite… I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role” and “a f*ck yeah” decision if WBD ever called him. Momoa later followed up in an Instagram post to dramatic effect: “They called.” God only knows if Momoa’s take on the antihero/thuggish bounty hunter (who happens to have regenerative powers) will utter the “nuking the earth into guacamole!” line.

Also? We know that Gunn loves Krypto, and there’s certainly reason to believe that Superman’s dog will crossover between DCU movies. Look (again) at how cute he is. Those ears, man.

Plot

When word first surfaced of this movie in 2023, Gunn revealed that his script is heavily inspired by Tom King’s ^^^ limited comic series. In short, this version of Supergirl is “hard-core” and has seen some sh*t:

“We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, raised on a rock, a chip off of Krypton, and who watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life and then come to Earth. She is much more hard-core and not the Supergirl we’re used to.“

DC Comics has provided a more extensive synopsis of King’s story:

Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but finds her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for? Wherever she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.

More specific details are obviously being kept under wraps. If we’re lucky, Momoa will keep on talking and won’t be able to resist posting set videos.

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow will soar into theaters on June 26, 2026.

Since it will be awhile before a trailer emerges for Supergirl, Gunn’s Superman vision is on full display (including Krypto) in the below teaser trailer.

This newer TV spot delivers a few more visual angles.

Luka Doncic will make his Los Angeles Lakers debut on Monday night, which is still an incredibly weird thing to write. While it’s going to take some time for fans to make the adjustment to seeing Doncic in a Lakers uniform, he and the Lakers are hoping it’s a quicker transition to him getting comfortable on the court.

Doncic, one of the top young stars in the game, going to play with the greatest player of the previous generation in LeBron James is an incredible storyline, but the Lakers are also firmly in the mix in the West playoff race at 31-19, good for fifth right now and just a half-game behind Houston for a top-4 seed. That means there’s some pressure on this team to keep winning as Doncic gets acclimated and the Lakers get used to having a second alpha-dog in the backcourt.

The good news is, his debut is coming against the West’s second-worst team in the Utah Jazz, which should provide a pretty sizable margin for error in Doncic’s first game as a Laker. Still, there are some things we’ll be watching in his first game that will give us an idea on how quickly the Lakers can put the pieces together and hit their ceiling with this group.

How often will the Lakers put Luka and LeBron in actions together?

The biggest question when the Lakers made this trade was how Luka and LeBron will fit together. They are two of the game’s elite and have always thrived on the ball, but now will have to figure out how to maximize their partnership in a shared capacity. There’s undoubtedly a world where it works beautifully, given they are two of the NBA’s best passers, but there will be a feeling out period as they try to find where each other is most comfortable on the floor and how they can use the other to put the defense in a bind.

JJ Redick’s familiarity with Luka as his former teammate should help accelerate that process, and the thing I’ll be watching for is how often he’s putting the two into an action together. Without a dominant center on the roster (we’ll get to that more in a minute), Redick could substitute LeBron as the screener for Doncic and see if his two stars can create some quick chemistry. Beyond that, James will probably have some ideas on how to leverage their passing ability and the attention they command from defenses. In Luka’s first game on the bench watching the Lakers after being traded there, James rather famously yelled “that’s what we’re gonna do” at Luka after working a give-and-go for an and-1 bucket. That dynamic and how those two work together is the single most interesting thing about this first game against a Jazz team they should be able to overwhelm with talent, even if it takes some time to fully gel.

Luka Doncic: more willing catch-and-shoot threat?

While the sample is just 22 games, Doncic had made a pretty considerable shift in his willingness to be a catch-and-shoot threat in Dallas when he was healthy this season. For his entire NBA career, Doncic has preferred to create his own shots, even from three-point range. He operated somewhat like James Harden used to in Houston, not spotting up at the three-point line but hovering well beyond it, giving himself space to get the ball and go to work off the dribble rather than being a true catch-and-shoot threat. But this season, he was nearly 50/50 (48/52) on assisted and unassisted threes, boasting his highest rate of assisted threes of his career. As a rookie, 42.3 percent of his threes were assisted as he worked his way into being the ball-dominant force, but since his rookie year, his highest rate had been just 29.9 percent (last year).

That is a rather important development as he goes to Los Angeles and plays alongside LeBron James. While I’m excited to see what JJ Redick comes up with to put the two in actions together, leveraging their size and handling abilities, having Doncic be more of an active threat when spotting up along the perimeter is a must for working with LeBron. He’s shown more of a willingness to do that this season and I’ll be looking to see where he’s stationed when LeBron is on the ball, because to take full advantage of the gravity of having both Luka and LeBron, Doncic can’t be 8 feet behind the three-point arc while the other is going to work.

What’s the center rotation look like?

The Lakers tried to address their hole at center by trading for Mark Williams, but after the Lakers failed his physical, the trade was rescinded with Williams returning to Charlotte and Dalton Knecht coming back to L.A. That means the Lakers won’t have any major reinforcements coming at the center spot, leaving them with Jaxson Hayes and a pair of two-way guys (Christian Koloko and Trey Jemison) as their big man rotation. That’s not ideal, and on Saturday we saw the Lakers play plenty of small-ball against the Pacers (a good team to lean on small-ball lineups). However, Doncic prefers operating with a strong pick-and-roll partner, and will not really have that outside of Hayes (who is a good lob threat but a so-so screener). If Maxi Kleber were healthy, I’d anticipate he would play a lot just because of his familiarity with Doncic, but with his foot injury, there aren’t a lot of answers on this L.A. roster other than going quite small.

How Doncic fares with small-ball lineups will be fascinating to watch. I’d expect JJ Redick will lean into spacing with those groups, and I’d bet Dorian Finney-Smith is tied to Doncic’s minutes just to give him someone familiar in the lineup (and who can bolster the defensive end of the floor). Defense is the biggest concern with those small-ball groups, and while the tanking Jazz aren’t a team you worry too much about in general, they do have size and will present some problems on the glass for a very small Lakers group. In a way, they could be a good early test case for Redick with regards to his rotation against a big team without a lot of resources.

Drake and Kendrick Lamar weren’t the only two celebrities with beef going into last night’s Super Bowl game — nor the only ones leaving with less love after it. It’s no secret that Cardi B does not like Donald Trump; his rhetoric and policies have always rankled the outspoken rapper, and while Trump isn’t often asked about her, it seems likely he’d call her something along the lines of a “nasty woman” (one of his favorite insults).

However, in an Instagram Live stream, Cardi declared, “Now I like him lesser,” after dealing with Trump’s Secret Service detail on entry to left her pricey high heel damaged. While doing a mukbang-style stream (basically, eating various foods and chatting with fans), Cardi said, “I was too f*cking mad today because, you know, Donald Trump… He was at the Super Bowl today, and they was giving us a hard time. Oh my gosh. The Secret Service was not playing at that motherf*cker. The Secret Service was not playing to get in that motherf*ckin’ stadium.”

After having her sister bring her the shoe in question (a spiked Christian Louboutin pump), she showed it off, saying, “Look how f*cked up my shoe is. This shoe cost me three bands. All ‘cause of Trump. Now I like him lesser. Now I like him lesser because you didn’t have to go to no damn Super Bowl. F*cking up my shoe.”

He does have a way back into her good graces (theoretically, we doubt he’s all that interested). “Bring my uncle back because my uncle got deported,” she said. Considering his immigration plans (which are somehow at odds with his top advisor’s labor plans), this is one feud that’s almost sure to continue.

Following their Super Bowl LIX performance, Kendrick Lamar and SZA have announced the European tour dates for the Grand National Tour. The “Luther” duo will play 13 stadiums across Europe and the United Kingdom this summer, including stops in Germany, France, and Italy.

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Doechii commemorate her big 2025 Grammys and Lisa lock down some big collabs for her solo discography. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

Doechii — “Nosebleeds”

Doechii had a massive 2025 Grammys, both performing and becoming just the third woman to ever win Best Rap Album thanks to Alligator Bites Never Heal. To celebrate, she shared “Nosebleeds,” a new song that, based on the celebratory lyrics, seems like it may have never been released had Doechii gotten her big win.

Lady Gaga — “Abracadabra”

Doechii and Gaga had similar ideas: Aside from performing during the Grammys, Gaga also seized the opportunity to drop some new music. Shortly after debuting the dance-ready “Abracadabra” video during a commercial break, she properly released the track.

GELO — “Tweaker (Remix)” Feat. Lil Wayne

LiAngelo Ball has become a star, although it’s not for basketball like his NBA brothers Lonzo and LaMelo. Instead, his song “Tweaker” has become a viral hit, so much so that he’s performing it at the NBA’s upcoming All-Star Weekend, and he just dropped a new remix of it featuring Lil Wayne.

Larry June, 2 Chainz, and The Alchemist — “Munyon Canyon”

June, Chainz, and Alchemist’s new project came together quickly, at least in terms of its album cycle: They announced Life Is Beautiful at the end of January, and the next week, it was out. The project includes highlights like the infinitely lush and chilled-out “Munyon Canyon.”

Lisa — “Born Again” Feat. Doja Cat and Raye

Blackpink’s Lisa has spent some time lately working on The White Lotus, but she’s also been devoting attention to her solo music career. She came through in a big way last week, too, teaming with Doja Cat and Raye on “Born Again.”

d4vd — “One More Dance”

After a string of singles, d4vd has officially announced a new album, Withered. The latest taste is the yearning “One More Dance,” which arrived last week alongside a dark-but-funny video.

Ava Max — “Lost Your Faith”

former Uproxx cover star Ava Max started 2025 with a bang via “Lost Your Faith,” an 80’s-inspired single that’s indebted to both the decade’s rock and pop. She hasn’t formally announced a new album yet, but her recent string of standalone singles certainly suggests a follow-up to 2023’s Diamonds & Dancefloors is forthcoming.

Waxahatchee — “Mud”

Waxahatchee could have just announced more tour dates last week. She did that, but the Uproxx Music Critics Poll darling also went ahead and dropped “Mud,” a short and sweet Tigers Blood outtake.

Big Thief — “Imagination”

Los Angeles wildfire recovery efforts are bringing out the best in a lot of musicians, and that includes Big Thief: Last week, the group released a surprise, download-only, five-track EP called Passional Relations, featuring previously unreleased recordings from the Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, UFOF, and Two Hands eras.

Rema — “Baby (Is It A Crime)”

Rema makes strong use of a classic Sade sample on his latest, “Baby (Is It A Crime).” Naturally, the African star infuses the track with Afrobeats energy, successfully building upon the original track to deliver something compelling and new.

What do you do after you’ve created two of the most acclaimed television dramas of all-time? If you’re Vince Gilligan, you return to the setting of both shows and cast a star from one of them, but otherwise change everything else. Unlike Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, “Untitled Vince Gilligan Apple TV+ Series” (as it’s called on IMDb) or Wycaro 339 (that’s the rumored title, and how I’m going to refer to it from now on) will have “no crime, and no methamphetamine,” according to the Emmy winner. So, what’s it about?

Here’s everything we know about Gilligan’s much-anticipated new show for Apple TV+, including plot details and a release window.

Plot

Wycaro 339 doesn’t have an official plot synopsis, but it’s possible to piece together pieces of what the Albuquerque-set series is about from comments made by cast and crew and reports from the media.

The show will have a “sci-fi element to it,” Gilligan told Variety. “It’s going to be fun and different. I have no prediction as to how folks to react to it — whether they’ll love it or hate it, or somewhere in the vast in-between. But I know it’s a story that interests me… The weird thing is that it takes place in Albuquerque, except it’s a whole different world. There’s no overlap that I can see.” He added, “The world changes very abruptly in the first episode, and then it is quite different. It’s the modern world — the world we live in — but it changes very abruptly. And the consequences that that reaps hopefully provide drama for many, many episodes after that.”

Compared to The Twilight Zone, the new series is said to be set in our world while putting a tweak on it, bending reality and focusing on people and exploring the human condition in an unexpected, surprising way. Thought-provoking but not a morality tale, the series also is expected to carry the signature Gilligan tone that infuses drama with humor.

Wycaro 339 stars Emmy-snubbed Better Call Saul legend Rhea Seehorn as “a very different character” than Kim Wexler. In a change of pace from the leads on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, she’s more hero than anti-hero.

“Vince is continuing to play, and he’s just pushing himself to a wild ride on this one in the best way. He’s vacillating between tones and between genres like he and Peter Gould did on Better Call Saul, but it’s even more pronounced now,” she told The Hollywood Reporter about the show. “I bring that up because he’s not as hemmed into how this is different from the mothership of Breaking Bad. It doesn’t need to be able to circle back to a predecessor.”

It appears season 1 will be nine episodes long, and bring back a lot of familiar names from the Gilligan-verse, including Better Call Saul co-creator Peter Gould as an executive producer.

Oh, and as for the title, it’s pronounced “why-care-o.”

Cast

So far, the only confirmed cast members are Rhea Seehorn, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Karolina Wydra. She’s playing Ana, who is described as “an optimistic young woman.” So, expect her soul to be crushed by the end of episode 3. More talent will be announced in the future, and overall, the show will employ “over 1,400 New Mexicans, including 500+ crew members, 100+ principal actors, and 800+ background talent.”

Release Date

It hasn’t been confirmed by Apple TV+, but in December 2024, Vince Gilligan reportedly claimed that he expects the show to premiere “in the summer of 2025 or a little later.” But, again, stay tuned for an official announcement.

How about enjoying Kim Wexler’s best moments until there’s a trailer?

As is, unfortunately, typically the case the week before the NBA All-Star Game, Adam Silver had some decisions to make regarding injury replacements for this coming weekend’s festivities in San Francisco.

With Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo out through the All-Star break with a calf strain and Mavs star Anthony Davis out with an adductor injury, Silver would need to add a player to the All-Star roster from each conference — even with the new mini-tournament format that features three teams drafted by the Inside the NBA crew. On Monday, Silver made the selection in the East, putting Hawks guard Trae Young on Team Chuck in place of Antetokounmpo, rewarding the NBA’s assists leader with his fourth All-Star selection.

Young is averaging 23.5 points and 11.4 assists per game for the Atlanta Hawks, as he has been at the center of everything Atlanta is doing offensively this season with Dejounte Murray now in New Orleans. He — and Jalen Johnson, who had an All-Star case before he was lost for the season with a shoulder injury — has led the Hawks to a 25-28 record as the All-Star break nears despite a number of injuries and has Atlanta firmly in the Play-In race out East in ninth currently.

The other candidates for the replacement spot in the East were Tyrese Maxey, Franz Wagner, and Jarrett Allen, but Young, as the NBA’s assists leader, had the most compelling case and earns a trip to San Francisco. As for the replacement pick out West, that will have to wait until Davis is officially ruled out, as his injury timeline has not been announced by the Mavericks yet as he continues to go through tests.

Yesterday (February 9) was Kendrick Lamar’s moment as he performed the Super Bowl Halftime Show. It was a big one for SZA, too, as she joined Lamar for a couple songs. While later reflecting on her new career highlight, SZA said she actually wasn’t nervous about it.

Following the performance, SZA took to Instagram to share a gallery of photos and videos from her big day, writing:

“THANK YOU @kendricklamar for consistently putting the world on your back . At all times . Thank you for lifting me up . Thank you for encouraging me and being so willing to bend to whatever I may need . Thank you to your incredible team and mine ! You’re a prophet . But you knew that . I wasn’t nervous today . I was ready to rep for u. For US . Thank you God ,Dot, and the NFL for this opportunity #SUPERBOWL2025 wrapped.”

In an interview ahead of the show, SZA revealed she was surprised when Lamar asked her to join him, saying, “I didn’t expect that at all. I was on the internet like everyone else being like ‘Oh, he’s about to eat that sh*t.’ […] I just knew that he wasn’t going to ask me, ’cause that would be crazy. And he did! And I laughed. And I was like, ‘OK.’ It just was a matter of me being about to commit to that moment, because I just feel like he’s so flawless. I’ve never seen a flaw in any performance or any offering that he’s ever given, and I just wanna be, you know, on par with that energy and just give as much as I can.”

It’s true that romcoms have been on the back burner for, oh, at least a decade. Perhaps audiences got burned out by too many shirtless McConaugheys, but more than likely, people simply decided that it’s so much easier to simply stream these stories (versus tentpole movies) rather than head to the multiplex. That is, unless the romcom in question happens to star Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell because c’mon, audiences are only human.

In the streaming realm, Netflix has dominated the romcom game with titles like The Kissing Booth and other teen-geared movies, but a more adult romcom series (starring Kristen Bell as sex-friendly podcaster Joanne and Adam Brody as rabbi Noah) went stratospheric last year for Netflix when Nobody Wants This took off to a degree that surprised the stars.

Well, there will be more of this show after Nobody Wants This scored a speedy renewal, so let’s gather up what has been disclosed thus far.

Release Date

Late last year, Brody revealed that filming would start in February, and the second season would be on Netflix “by September next year.” Whereas Jackie Tohn (who portrays Noah’s sister, Esther), recently updated Deadline on filming moving to March 3, but that still makes it possible to return within a year after the first season streamed in Sept. 2024. (And Netflix’s new sizzle reel does confirm the 2025 window.)

Adding to that momentum, creator Erin Foster, Bell, and Brody suggested to Deadline that four or five seasons would be an ideal duration for this series.

Plot

As viewers are surely aware, Nobody Wants This is a semi-autobiographical series from creator Erin Foster and inspired by the formerly agnostic Foster’s own experience of falling in love with her Jewish husband, Simon Tikhman. The series spices things up considerably with Kristen Bell’s agnostic character, Joanne, also being frozen out by Noah’s Jewish family. That friction contributed to a season finale in which Joanne cut the relationship short after realizing that she’s not prepared to convert to Judaism. Of course, the cliffhanger ending revealed that Noah attempted to convince Joanne to give coupledom another shot, and they kissed, presumably ready to try again.

Why did this show carry so much appeal? As Adam Brody told Variety, this success can be partially explained by audiences wanting to leave their stress behind, “and there doesn’t seem to be many romantic comedies, period.” Kristen Bell echoed that sentiment: “There was a ton of really great, intense, hardcore television that ‘Breaking Bad’ inspired… and something lovely in the rom-com space hadn’t been felt by the masses in a while.”

To complicate matters, Noah finished the season while poised to become a head rabbi, meaning that Joanne needs to get with the program if she wants this to work, so what has Erin Foster revealed about the next season? She confirmed to Deadline that Joanne and Noah’s love story is happening much slower than initially planned. Foster also hints that the story is “just more or less a continuation” because the first season worked well, so why mess with success? The audience clearly enjoyed the show’s drip-drip approach as a “real-time”-type story, so there will be more of the same:

“Netflix, I have to give a lot of credit, because they pushed us to go as slow as possible in Season 1. Like you said, originally they ended in getting engaged, they ended in getting married, maybe. It was way too fast. We slowed it all down. When you watch the season, it feels like you’re really with them in real time, dating. It spans the course of what, three months in Season 1 maybe? You really feel the weight of each moment because experiencing it in real time as opposed to lots of time passing, so we’re going to continue going on that slow trajectory … All the big, romantic moments that you want to feel in that first year of a relationship, we want the audience to be able to feel. I know now what hooked people and what sunk in and what stood out, so the goal is to give people that and not make some weird artistic choice and rob them of the joy they want to feel.

Cast

For sure, Kristen Bell and Adam Brody will be back as Joanne and Noah. Netflix hasn’t breathed a word about additional casting, but presumably, their borderline intrusive fams will be back, including Morgan (Justine Lupe), Sasha (Timothy Simons), Esther (Jackie Tohn), and Bina (Tovah Feldshuh).

In lieu of a trailer, it’s worth watching Adam Brody blowing away expectations in FX/Hulu’s Fleishmann Is In Trouble. His character debuted as a straight-up finance bro but blossomed into so much more.

Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show was hotly anticipated, and the rapper definitely delivered. Towards the end of the set, Lamar busted out the track everybody was waiting for: “Not Like Us.”

It was reported ahead of the big game that Lamar would indeed perform the Drake diss track, but that there was some uncertainty about how the network would handle it, given that the song is currently at the center of defamation allegations.

Well, Lamar found a way to make it work, by cutting out the line where he alleges Drake is a “pedophile” (although everybody watching knows the lyric already). Perhaps the most viral moment of the performance, though, was when he called out Drake by name (as he does on the original song), saying, “Say Drake, I hear you like ’em young.” What made the moment pop off online, though, is that Lamar looked right down the barrel of the camera and smiled wide as he said it, which made for quite the screenshot that was shared heavily on social media.

Meanwhile, elsewhere during the set, Lamar also performed “Squabble Up,” “Humble,” “DNA,” “Euphoria,” “Man At The Garden,” “Peekaboo,” “Luther” (with SZA), “All The Stars” (also with SZA), and “TV Off.”
