All-American Rejects Avoided Having Their Recent Concert Shut Down After The Cops Called Turned Out To Be Fans

Forget the Ticketmaster boycott many musicians orchestrated in the past, All-American Rejects have another plan. Instead of searching for a way to circumvent the company’s recent hiccups, the “Gives You Hell” band has decided to avoid major venues all together.

For All-American Rejects recent performances they decided to take it back to their indie roots. If you want to catch them live, you will need an invite to All-American Rejects next house party. While this avenue comes with a great deal of creative freedom and lowered overhead cost; the DIY-show route has its own unique challenges. During All-American Rejects recent performance they faced one common issue head-on—noise complaints.

An anonyous source called the local police to cut All-American Rejects’ show short. But, it turned out the officer responding to the call turned out to be an All-American Rejects fan and decided to let the show continue. Well, that’s what lead singer Tyson Ritter told Rolling Stone.

When discussing the moment, Ritter joked about the encounter.

“That saved our ass,” he said. “It was funny. I don’t think they even saw the bus. They just saw the crowd and my manager pulled me off stage and was like, “They’re going to arrest me.” And I go, “OK, OK, we’ll stop.”

He continued: “Our guitarist stayed onstage and he just goes, ‘Boo.’ The crowd went up in arms, and I walked back to the cop and I go, ‘Hey man, if you want these kids to get out of here in a nice peaceful order, just let us play one more song.’ And he goes, ‘I didn’t know it was you guys. Go play another song.’ That was a really cool moment.”

You won’t find a full schedule of All-American Rejects’ performance schedule. But over on Instagram, the band said their next pop-up is scheduled for the Indy 500, which takes place tomorrow, Sunday, May 25.

Today (May 24), Kendrick Lamar and SZA are set to play their final Grand National Tour stop at SoFi Stadium. However, the “Luther” musicians are going to have a hard time topping what they’ll already given.

Since taking over the Inglewood, California stage, the duo has treated concertgoers to several guest cameos. Yesterday (May 23), SZA brought out friend and collaborator Justin Bieber. Given Bieber’s surprise appearance fans were game for any track he was open to performing. But instead of belting out a solo song, SZA and Justin Bieber came together for a duet of “Snooze.”

In the video captured by an attendee (viewable here), SZA and Bieber’s chemistry is on full display. With his eyes closed, Bieber is taken by the passion of the track. As SZA made her way to Bieber, she gently took his face into her hands. The pair slowly made eye matching which lead to a warm and wide smile from both.

“Snooze” was a quick standout from SZA’s chart-topping sophomore album, SOS. Although “Snooze” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song broke several chart records. For 30 weeks, “Snooze,” dominated the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. Then nearly a year after SOS’ release, SZA tapped Justin Bieber for an acoustic reimagination of “Snooze” in September 2023 after appearing in its official visual.

Justin Bieber is back in the studio recording new music. His pop-up performance alongside SZA leaves fans with hope they have yet another collaboration on the way.

Questlove Says He Was Both ‘Honored’ And ‘Surprised’ By Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Squabble Up’ Reference To The Roots

From his Academy Award to multiple Grammy wins, Questlove is a well-decorated musician. Still, many are not aware of the cultural shaping he has done behind-the-scenes or even as part of The Roots. However, Kendrick Lamar knows.

Yesterday (May 23), during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Questlove shared his inital response to Lamar’s subtle reference to The Roots’ 1999 “The Next Movement” visual in the offical “Squabble Up” video.

“I was so shocked because the way that people told me,” he said. “I woke up to 30 [Kendrick Lamar] texts.”

He continued: “I thought, ‘Oh no.’ He just dissed us. I thought it was something else. And they were like, ‘No, he paid tribute to y’all in this video.’”

Despite The Roots success, Questlove believes that although they are “ubiquitous,” the groupo is “not super mainstream.”

“We’re niche,” he continued. “We’re not overexposed popular. It’s hard to tell where we fit in the scheme of things. It’s an honor but it’s also a surprise when you see people acknowledging you after all this time.”

Back in November, Questlove shared his initial response to the tribute shortly after GNX’s release on Instagram.

Camila Cabello is no stranger to success. As a former member of girl group, Fifth Harmony, the “Godspeed” singer picked up tons of professional accolades. As a solo act, this streak continued.

“‘Never Be the same’ is my 4th song to hit a BILLION STREAMS,” she wrote sharing a video playing the track from her debut solo album Camila. “When I wrote this song it felt like my soul in musical form. yearning, dreaming, pining… lol.”

She continued: “I’m blown away and so grateful if my music has in any way resonated with you or been a soundtrack to a moment of our lives.”

Cabello closed by teasing subtly nodging supporters toward her upcoming shows. “See you on tour this summer :)))),” she penned.

Just as Cabello pointed out in her upload, “Never Be The Same” joined a list of other bangers. Cabello’s past tunes to earn a billion streams on the streaming service include Camila’s lead single “Havana,” 2019’s “Señorita” with ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes, and 2022’s “Bam Bam” featuring Ed Sheeran.

Cabello’s latest studio album C, XOXO’s one year is quickly approaching. Given “Never Be The Same” hitting one billion streams, supporters hope one of Cabello’s newer singles such as “I Luv It” featuring Playboi Carti, “He Knows” with Lil Nas X, or “Hot Uptown” featuring Drake will follow suit.

The Roots Picnic 2025 is mere days away. While R&B, neo-soul, and rap music lovers prepare for their annual pilgrimage to Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park, they have been made aware of one major lineup change.

Late yesterday (May 23), D’Angelo dropped out of his headlining set scheduled for Saturday, May 31. In a note shared on the festival’s Instagram page (viewable here), the “Brown Sugar” singer revealed that the decision was at the advisement of his medical team.

“Due to an unforeseen medical delay regarding surgery I had earlier this year, I’ve been advised by my team of specialist[s] that the performance this weekend could further complicate matters,” he wrote. “It is nearly impossible to express how disappointed I am not to be able to play with my brothers the Roots. And even more disappointed not to see all of you.”

He continued: “I’m so thankful to my beautiful fans for continuing to rock with me and I thank you for your continued support.”

Shortly after the sad news, Roots Picnic organizers announced Maxwell as D’Angelo’s official replacement.

Although D’Angelo won’t hit Root Picnic’s main stage, he doesn’t plan on disappearing into the void. To close out his statement, he teased new music. “I’m currently in the lab and I can’t wait to serve up what’s in the pot,” he penned.

SNX: This Week’s Best Sneaker Drops, Including the Jordan 4 White Cement, What The Kobe? Protro 9 & More

Sneaker Drops_1024x450
Uproxx

Welcome to SNX DLX, your weekly roundup of the best sneakers to hit the internet. Well, the party is over — after nearly three weeks of big, loud, exciting drops, we’re back to the slow trickle of drops that has unfortunately become the biggest sneaker trend of 2025. Luckily, we got some gems this week, including Lil Yachty’s latest collab with Nike, a Swarovski Crystal-encrusted Jordan 1, the return of the White Cement Jordan 4, and a re-release of the classic “What The Kobe?” Protro 9.

Notice anything about our preview rundown of the best sneakers of the week? Those sneakers are all Nike — no other brand is dropping anything even remotely worthwhile this week, and that makes this hardcore New Balance fan sad. But hey, it’s a great week for Nike enthusiasts (when isn’t it?).

Here are this week’s best sneaker drops and where to find them.

Nike Us Force 1

Nike

Price: $130

Ever since Lil Yachty hit the stage at last year’s Coachella rocking these sneakers, we’ve wanted a pair, and now over a year later, here we are! This sneaker is Lil Boat’s second Nike collaboration and takes the Air Force 1, gives it an impossible-to-turn-away-from patent leather color block colorway, and adds some Concrete Boys logos and hidden messages to the design.

It’s bold, it’s bright, it’s loud — it perfectly reflects Yachty’s whole vibe, and we love it for that.

The Nike Us Force 1 is out now for a retail price of $130. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or your favorite aftermarket site.

Women’s Air Jordan 1 Low OG With Swarovski Crystals

Nike

Price: $1000

This isn’t the only Nike encrusted with Swarovski Crystals — we’ve seen this stunt pulled before, and yet, despite all the Swarovski Crystal sneakers out there, I’ve yet to ever see one in the wild. Do these even really exist? We’re not sure, but despite never having seen them worn, we still very much want a pair!

This sneaker features the classic Jordan 1 Shadow colorway textured with Swarovski Crystals. Would we ever actually wear a pair of $1000 shoes on the streets? You’re darn right we would! But that’s easy to say when you’ll probably never get the chance. But if you have the money and love Jordan 1s, this is a definite conversation starter!

The Women’s Air Jordan 1 Low OG With Swarovski Crystals is out now for a retail price of… wait for it — $1000. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

Nike Kobe 9 Protro ‘What The Kobe?”

Nike

Price: $240

For its tenth anniversary, Nike is once again dropping the infamous Kobe 9 Protro What The Kobe? Unlike typical “What The…” sneakers, the What The Kobe doesn’t actually look that crazy. Sure, its weirdly thin throat and assortment of colors feels a bit random, but this is way wearable than other famous “What The…” sneakers.

The sneaker features a 1:1 design of the OG with React cushioning and a grippy outsole. It’s not our favorite Kobe of the year, but it’s definitely up there and a must-cop for hardcore Kobe fans.

The Nike Kobe 9 Protro ‘What The Kobe?’ is out now for a retail price of $240. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or your favorite aftermarket site.

Air DT Protro ’92 White and Black

Nike

Price: $150

This week, Nike dropped a prototype version of Deion Sanders’ beloved Diamond Turf sneaker, the Air DT Proto ’92, and we might even like this more than the OG. Nike has a track record of dope prototypes (look at the Air Ship) and the DT Proto is no different. The sneaker sports a mid-cut design, white leather upper, mesh underneath the midfoot strap, and Nike Air cushioning at the heel and forefoot, a design detail that stayed with the original.

It’s like wearing a piece of history on your feet! Here is to hoping the DT Protro gets some more colorways as we enter the second half of 2025.

The Air DT Protro ’92 White and Black is out now for $150. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

Air Jordan 4 White Cement

Nike

Price: $225

Do we really need to say anything here? This is one of the most legendary colorways of one of the greatest sneakers ever created — it’s a must-buy!

The premium and pristine leather upper, the speckled cement mudguards, the way that vibrant Jumpman logo jumps out at you! It’s a perfect sneaker. One of the all-time greatest sneakers, and we all have a chance to cop a pair this week. Good luck to you all!

The Air Jordan 4 White Cement is set to drop on May 24th at 7:00 AM for a retail price of $225. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT and Flight Club.

When Will ‘MobLand’ Season 1 Episode 9 Come Out On Paramount Plus?

mobland-dinner-lg
Paramount Plus

If there’s anything that MobLand has made clear, it’s that the world can never have enough of gangster Tom Hardy. Perhaps that will prompt Netflix to finally open up about the status of potentially plopping Alfie Solomons into the Peaky Blinders movie. That would be a more realistic development than another wish that Steven Knight viewers have been whispering lately.

Gotta pick and choose battles, you know? And that’s what could be happening in the above MobLand still, in which Hardy’s fixer, Harry Da Souza, does not look pleased while attending a dinner event. That’s the topic of this week’s episode, so let’s get to the even more valuable logistics.

When Will Tom Hardy’s MobLand Season 1 Episode 9 Come Out?

May 25. The ninth episode, “Beggars Banquet,” hints at what’s to come with this description: “Bella does a runner to London. Tattersall gets Alice’s tootsies tapping. Kevin confronts his past. The Harrigans sit down for a normal family dinner.”

Meanwhile and off camera, Hardy recently broke the sad news to Esquire UK that his action days might be growing less intense due to injuries:

“I’ve had two knee surgeries now, my disc’s herniated in my back, I’ve got sciatica as well,” Hardy told the publication. “And I have that… is it plantar fasciitis? Where did that come from? And why? Why?! And I pulled my tendon in my hip as well. It’s like, it’s all falling to bits now, and it’s not going to get better.”

Maybe that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu habit could use a stretching routine, too. And fingers are crossed that Hardy didn’t pull any muscles while shooting this penultimate episode (especially involving a banquet) for the season.

When Will ‘Landman’ Season 2 Come Out?

landman-20-lg-banner
Paramount+

Landman‘s second season will bring change. Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norton will now guide M-Tex following the demise of Jon Hamm’s Monty Miller, and 1883 veteran Sam Elliott and his fabulous mustache are joining the Taylor Sheridan oil-industry drama. Tommy will also have to wear a suit jacket with his jeans and boots, and he’ll need to educate Demi Moore’s Cami on the ways of this business. The pressure is running high, in other words.

The above tidbits have arrived due to the series zooming into production in March, and this odd lull in new seasons of Sheridan shows, there’s bound to be extra interest on when we can see Tommy stress the hell out over his job and his personal life. Sure, The Madison will arrive later this year, and 1944 and Tulsa King will follow, but Landman‘s cross-demographic appeal means that curiosity is running higher for the Texas-set series.

When Will Landman Season 2 Come Out?

No precise release date exists yet. However, we can expect a late 2025 or early 2026 return, especially since Paramount+ knows how popular this series is with Sheridan’s core audience.

Billy Bob is also confident that this season will not disappoint even though production is flying so fast that only half of the scripts are currently available, as he informed Collider:

“Last year we had every episode when we started. We do not this year. We’ve only seen about half of it. I can tell you this much. I’m loving this season. The relationships are really growing and gelling – not only as actors, but with the characters.”

Notice that he did not reveal how many bawdy jokes that Tommy Norton will be forced to endure, but one thing is certain: Billy Bob Thornton will crush that dialogue, which can be relived below.

Charli XCX Says Her ‘Lyrical Genius’ Is ‘Reflective Of The Cultural Brain Rot Of Our Time’

One thing Charli XCX has demonstrated throughout the Brat era is self-awareness. She did so once again yesterday (May 22) while being named Songwriter Of The Year at the 2025 Ivor Novello Awards, when she discussed her lyrics.

Charli said (as NME reports), “As I’m sure you all agree, I am hardly Bob Dylan, but one thing I certainly do is commit to the bit.” Tongue surely in cheek, she went on to provide examples of her “lyrical genius,” including “I want to dance to me, me, me, me, me, when I go to the club, club” from “Club Classics.”

She added, “[While] some people might describe [the lyrics] as vapid and nonsensical, [I] would unpretentiously describe it as Warholian and reflective of the cultural brain rot of our time.” Charli then continued:

“To me as a songwriter, but above all, as an artist: conviction is everything. It separates the frauds from the greats, the good singers from the trendsetters. It’s Duchamp’s fountain. It’s Denniz pop, it’s David f*cking Lynch. It’s an undeniable sense of style and personality, and of course, it’s embracing the idea of daring to suck, in my opinion, from writing songs with no fear and no agenda other than making something totally reflective of who you are, come the best songs. Songs that can soundtrack a night out, a summer, or possibly even define a moment in time.”
