Conan Gray Unveils The Heartbroken Anthem ‘Vodka Cranberry,’ From His Upcoming Album

Next month, Conan Gray is set to release his latest album, Wishbone. He announced it in May and shared “This Song” later that month, and now we have another preview of the project via “Vodka Cranberry.”

Gray sings of a relationship that’s circling the drain, “Speak up, I know you hate me / Looked at your picture and cried like a baby / Speak up, don’t leave me waiting / Got way too drunk off a vodka cranberry / Called you up in the middle of the night / Wailing like an imbecile / If you won’t end things, then I will.”

It also comes with a video that’s a continuation of the “This Song” visual.

Gray previously wrote of the new album, “over the past two years, i’ve been secretly writing songs. after shows in the basements of the venues, in the sheets of my hotel beds, in narrow gaps between tours— i’d come back home and write all the things i felt nobody wanted to hear. maybe even the things i didn’t want people to hear. i didn’t tell my friends. i didn’t tell my label. after all, i didn’t know i was making anything, and i had no plan to release any of it.”

Watch the “Vodka Cranberry” video above and find Gray’s upcoming tour dates below.

Lil Yachty Doesn’t Have Time To Talk In His ‘Won’t Diss You’ Video

Lil Yachty’s string of lighthearted standalone singles continues with “Won’t Diss You.” The video is shot is a very guerrilla style with fisheye lens, a la ’90s skate videos, and the aesthetic is classic Boat. Yachty dances alongside his fleet of cars and in a grassy field without a care in the world, clad in a preppy pink-and-green polo shirt. Although the lyrics are vaguely threatening, you get the impression it’s all performance, and really, he just likes to rap for fun.

For the past couple of years, it’s increasingly begun to look like the Atlanta rapper has no intentions of every releasing another full-length album again. His “rap as hobby” approach has led to a plethora of colorful singles like “Murda,” “Can’t Be Crete Boy” with Veeze, “We Ball Forever,” and more, but no release date or album announcements since 2023’s Let’s Start Here, which low-key wasn’t even a rap album.

To be honest, though, it seems like a wise approach; Yachty’s keeping things fresh and light, making sure he stays relevant between projects, but taking his time to make sure his next album is actually something worth putting out. It’s an approach that more of his peers should be emulating.

You can watch Lil Yachty’s video for “Won’t Diss You” above.

Travis Scott Announced The Imminent Release Of ‘Jackboys 2’ With Host Bun B

It looks like the sequel to Travis Scott’s 2019 EP Jackboys is coming sooner than anyone thought. While Travis teased the project back in April, and revealed a movie companion is planned for it in May, there was little information about its potential release date — until today. Travis posted the release date on Instagram, along with the reveal that this time, the tape would be hosted by Texas rap legend Bun B.

“JB2 OUT EVERY WHERE 7 13,” he wrote. “SPEAKERS AND SCREAMS AT MAX VOLUME.” So, it looks like Jackboys 2 is coming out this Sunday, giving fans a full week to enjoy the project at length (it seems he, too, is an advocate of off-cycle releases, if not returning to Tuesday releases as my colleague wrote nearly seven years ago). The post itself revealed that the project would be 17 tracks long, although it’s still unclear who all will be included outside of Travis himself, and presumably Don Toliver and Sheck Wes, Travis’ main Cactus Jack artists.

But Travis may have given fans a way of decoding potential features ahead of time, sending Lamborghinis branded with the Jackboys logo to other artists such as 21 Savage, GloRilla, Kodak Black, Tyla, Vybz Kartel, and Waka Flocka Flame.

Jackboys 2 is due on 7/13 via Cactus Jack and Epic. Get more info here.

Clipse And Kendrick Lamar Flex On The Competition With ‘Chains & Whips’

Let’s be clear; none of the rappers on Clipse’s new song “Chains & Whips” name any names in the course of flexing on their competition. But if we’re being honest, they shouldn’t have to. There are a lot of rappers that Malice, Pusha T, and Kendrick Lamar’s verses could apply to, so let’s just use “hit dogs holler” rules here. If the shoe fits, wear it.

So when Pusha snarls, “We all in the room, but here’s the elephant / You chasin’ a feature out of your element,” yes, he could probably be talking about Travis Scott, the ostensible target of his ire on their last single, “So Be It,” but it could also fit about half the rappers in the business today. Likewise, Kendrick’s threat to “send yo’ ass back to the cosmics” could be read as a little victory jig on the grave of Drake’s career — or it could be seen as a return to the competive energy hip-hop used to have before “the kumbaya sh*t” took over.

After all, Kenny does also declare, “Let’s be clear, hip-hop died again / Half of my profits may go to Rakim,” highlighting how so many of the pioneers go unrecognized (and unpaid) while clout-chasing artists who don’t even love hip-hop get million-dollar endorsement deals. They don’t need to name names — like the title of the new album Clipse dropped today, all they have to do is Let God Sort Em Out.

Jessie Murph Is Cautiously In Love (Almost) On Her New Single ‘Bad As The Rest’

Jessie Murph’s new album Sex Hysteria arrives next week, but in the meantime, we have another early look at it with the new single “Bad As The Rest,” a big-time ballad.

The song sees Murph aware that she might be heading down a bad road with somebody, singing on the chorus, “I do not love you yet / But I’m ’bout as close as I can get / Keep one last percent / Close to my chest / Just in case you turn out bad as the rest / I will not be no fool / But for you, I might do what dumb b*tches do / Put on the dress / Say ‘f*ck it’ instead / Follow my heart from my place to your bed / I’m as bad as the rest.”

A press release previously indicated the album sees Murph “opening up about themes of sexuality, generational trauma, and self-discovery with a vulnerability and honesty that marks a new chapter in her artistic evolution.” It also says that on the release, she “reckons with the past, interrogates inherited trauma, and explores the emotional complexities of growing up in environments where feelings are buried deep.”

There’s been months of speculation about new Justin Bieber music, but in terms of concrete information, it just came out of nowhere: Bieber announced Swag yesterday (July 10) and it’s out now. Beyond Gunna, the project also features contributions from Sexyy Red, Lil B, Dijon, Cash Cobain, Mk.gee, Daniel Caesar, and others. A press release notes the album is “inspired by his devotion as a husband and father.”

Meanwhile, in a recent Uproxx Visionaries interview, Gunna described his current era, “I would say: ‘alignment.’ Because I’m aligned with everything creatively that’s personally going on in my life. When it comes to music, this era has all been today in time. What’s current with me. What’s happening with me. I feel like that’s how it’s aligned.”

FLO Taps Kaytranada To Help Them Set ‘The Mood’ On Their Slinky New Single

Kaytranada has built a reputation as a go-to producer for alt-R&B vocalists, contributing to or collaborating with such names as Tinashe, Kali Uchis, Victoria Monet, and more. So, it’s only right that pop-R&B trio FLO would tap his talents for a new single of their own. The British girl group is a perfect pairing for Kaytranada’s EDM-influenced R&B production. Fresh off the release of their album Access All Areas and its accompanying tour, FLO looks to be gearing up for a follow-up that will shake up their sound.

Meanwhile, Kaytranada is flying higher than he ever has, thanks to well-received sets at the Cookies And Milk Festival and Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, as well as an upcoming performance at AfroFuture in Detroit in August. Kaytra also recently remixed the Mariah Carey classic “Don’t Forget About Us,” drawing in another new demographic for his summery, lounge-ready sound.

Fortunately, his fans both new and old are keeping him humble, after complaining about his lost luggage while on tour, he was greeted with a raft of roasts in his replies for declaring that he’d had to perform “musty.” Hey, staying in touch with the people is one of those things that can only improve his DJ sets. In the meantime, you can listen to FLO’s new single, “The Mood,” above.
