The 1975 Is Only Playing One Concert This Year As They Finish A ‘Pretty Extraordinary’ New Album, Their Manager Explains

The 1975
Samuel Bradley

The 1975 are playing just one concert this year: Glastonbury. There’s a good reason for that, though: They’re working on a new album.

As NME notes, on an episode of The Money Trench podcast, Jamie Oborne, The 1975’s manager and the co-founder of the Dirty Hit label, explained, “It’s such a big gig, and it’s the only show that we’re playing this year. [Matty Healy] thought doing it in isolation would be a really powerful thing. I obviously agreed with him, as I often do.”

Of new music, he said:

“They’re making a record at the moment. I don’t know when it will come out, but they’re making one. […] It’s already a pretty extraordinary record. […] I think they’ve earned the right to take their time. The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”

Back in September 2023, Healy startled fans when he said on stage, “After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus with shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight. Thank you so much.” Some interpreted that as a break-up, so Healy later clarified, “We didn’t mean to scare any hardcore fans by insinuating that we were splitting up or anything like that. That’s not happening.”

Earlier this year, there were rumors about the new The 1975 album, with claims that some of it was inspired by Healy’s Taylor Swift break-up.

Will Gabriel Be Back In ‘Emily In Paris’ Season 5?

emily-gabriel-paris-lg
Apple TV+

Emily In Paris won’t exactly turn into Emily In Rome for the unruffled series’ fifth season starring music nepo baby Lily Collins. Creator Darren Star simply wanted to change the scenery, which will also add slight dimension to the ongoing love triangles that prevail. For example, the last time we saw hot chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), he and his dirty skillet were losing their sh*t over Emily leaving Paris for work and to simultaneously get it on with hot Italian Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) because why not? Good for Emily.

Fifth season filming has been ongoing, and Daily Mail published photos of Emily and Marchello looking cozy in Rome, but you know that Gabriel is gonna bust in there after giving Emily the runaround for years (while impregnating his “ex” and leaving Emily on the side of a mountain). Gabriel was further egged on by Alfie (Lucien Laviscount, also back this season), who semi-lectured his bro about losing “greatest girl in the world.” This also suggests that Alfie might be carrying a torch for Emily, but the issue that we will speak of today is how Lucas Bravo seemed to be “over it” last year, and has that changed?

Quotes from Bravo began to indicate that he was upset about Gabriel being showcased only for romance (and terribly at that) while moving away from his hot chef ambitions. In that vein, Bravo admitted to The Times, “Life is short. It takes five months to shoot this series. Do I want to sacrifice them by telling something that does not stimulate me? … I do not want to be a part of a cog that does not tend to take the intelligence of viewers into consideration.” He further informed Indiewire, “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me … and we grew apart … it kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole.”

Ouch. Also, what does Lucas Bravo have against guac?

Will Gabriel Be In Emily In Paris Season 5?

Surprisingly, yes. Although Bravo was publicly criticizing the writing for Gabriel and sharing how he wasn’t sure “if I want to be part of Season 5,” something must have changed behind the scenes because Netflix announced his return as filming resumed this year. Maybe Gabriel will get back to occasional chef business in between not knowing how the hell to be a decent boyfriend to Emily. Or maybe she will toss his skillet into the Seine.

Emily In Paris‘ returning cast further includes Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Bruno Gouery, Samuel Arnold, Thalia Besson, and William Abadie. Camille Razat will not be back, but Minnie Driver is joining the series as Princess Jane, who is buddies (frenemies?) with Sylvie and literally “married into a royal family.” Stamped passports all around.

A couple weeks ago, Jennifer Lopez revealed that she sustained an injury while rehearsing for the 2025 American Music Awards (which she’s hosting), by sharing a photo of a cut on her nose. Now, though, as the show is set for tonight (May 26) at 8 p.m., Lopez says she’s back in tip-top shape.

She told People:

“I hurt my nose. I hit it in rehearsal and I had to get stitches. It was fine. A few of us have gotten hurt in rehearsals. We’re doing a very high-energy athletic number so it’s, I guess, bound to happen.”

She also said of her decision to return as AMAs host after doing it previously in 2015, “I remember having a good time with it and they asked me to do it again this year. I’ve been working on a lot of music, and it just seemed like a good time. I just love all the music that’s out right now. I love that they’re honoring Gloria Estefan as well, who was kind of a pioneer of crossover. It seems like a really beautiful year to celebrate.”

Of seeing other artists, she also noted:

“I’m always [there] as a fan. I love artists and getting to know them and being around them and just celebrating the different things that everybody does. I really am a believer in lifting other people up and celebrating great work so I’m very excited to do that too this year. […] I want to see all of [the performances, but] obviously I’m a huge Janet [Jackson] fan. I’m excited to see Janet. I haven’t seen her in years, and I’m glad that she’s being celebrated, too.”

Taylor Swift Fans Speculate (Or At Least Hope) She’ll Make A Surprise 2025 AMAs Appearance And Drop Some Major News

Taylor Swift is one of this year’s most-nominated artists at the 2025 American Music Awards, with six nods: Artist Of The Year, Favorite Female Pop Artist, Favorite Touring Artist, Album Of The Year, Favorite Pop Album (both for The Tortured Poets Department), and Collaboration Of The Year (“Fortnight” with Post Malone). That said, she has not been announced as a performer or as somebody set to make an official appearance at the show.

But, some fans are holding out hope that she will turn up, specifically to announce her long-awaited re-recorded album Reputation (Taylor’s Version).

For the past few days on X (formerly Twitter), fans have shared jokes (like this one and this one) about Swift’s surprise at all the speculation. Others have pointed out that Swift tends to attend the show when she’s not otherwise occupied, and some have noted that Swift is just days removed from sharing an extended listen of “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” in an episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, suggesting that this could be part of her bringing attention to the re-recorded album before formally announcing it.

This also wouldn’t be Swift’s first time making a surprise awards show appearance, like she did at the VMAs in 2022.

Whatever the case, the answer will be clear tonight, when the show airs at 8 p.m. ET. In the meantime, find the full list of this year’s AMAs nominees here and learn more about the 2025 ceremony here.

Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Burna Boy team with Travis Scott and Reneé Rapp launch a fiery new era. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

Burna Boy — “TaTaTa” Feat. Travis Scott

Rapp is ready to rock: Last week, she announced a new album called Bite Me and shared the single “Leave Me Alone,” a radio-ready shot of grunge-pop fun.

Chris Stapleton — “Bad As I Used To Be”

The soundtrack for the F1 movie is stacked: It features songs from Ed Sheeran, Don Toliver, Tate McRae, Rosé, Roddy Ricch, Burna Boy, Raye, and the latest release, the Chris Stapleton blues-rocker “Bad As I Used To Be.”

Turnstile — “Look Out For Me”

Alex Warren and Jelly Roll — “Bloodline”

2024 had a ton of breakout stars, but here in 2025, Alex Warren is proving to be one of the biggest ones this year thanks to “Ordinary.” Now he’s building out his circle, as he recruited Jelly Roll to join him on last week’s stomp-folk single “Bloodline.”

Speaking of breakout stars: Sparkling Sessions headliner Jessie Murph is in the midst of her own come-up and she’s also attracting stars into her sphere, getting Sexyy Red to feature on a new “Blue Strips” remix.
