Report: The Kings Will Pull Out Of Pascal Siakam Trade Talks

Trade talks revolving around Toronto Raptors star Pascal Siakam have reportedly heated up in recent days. One week after the Raptors made the decision to send OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks, the spotlight has turned to Siakam, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Earlier in the evening on Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic mentioned that one team in hot pursuit of Siakam was the Sacramento Kings, going as far to say that they were beginning to emerge as a “serious suitor” as Toronto ramped up talks.

But in a reminder of how quickly all of this can change, Charania went on to report that Sacramento made the decision to end talks for the two-time All-Star.

It can be tricky to figure out a trade that both satiates Toronto’s desire to get as much back as possible for Siakam that does not include standout second-year forward Keegan Murray, who is almost assuredly off the table in trade talks. But as Charania noted, talks ending now doesn’t necessarily mean that talks are over for good, so we’ll have to wait and see if things change ahead of the trade deadline next month.

Siakam is averaging 22.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.9 rebounds in 34.9 minutes per game this season.

Victoria Monét is having a very sweet new year, after one of her heroes, Anita Baker, responded to a post she made back in 2022. “I wanna make a classic love song that Anita Baker would be proud of,” Monét posted at the time.

“You’ve already done it,” Baker now added, giving some love to Monét’s 2023 hit. “‘How Does It Feel’ is a melodic masterpiece. Congratulations on all your well deserved nominations & accolades & keeping R&B in your world/your generation.”

After getting the reply, Monét expressed her love for Baker right back.

“This is such an honor and a dream come true!!!” she responded. “My gratitude for you and your art has always been immense and now to speak to you through mine feels so golden!!

“I love you to the stars and I thank you for these flowers! I’m in awe. Hope to hug you soon,” Monét added.

Monét dropped her debut studio album, Jaguar II, back in August. By November, the record received seven Grammy nominations, including Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. She is also a contender for Best New Artist when the awards ceremony takes place on February 4.

Husband leaves a sink full of dirty dishes. But one simple action changes its meaning.

We’ve probably all (especially moms and wives) have had it up to here with stories of men not being able to really pull their weight in partnerships.

So when I present to you a story about a husband leaving behind a sink full of dirty dishes for his wife to find, you’d probably sooner roll your eyes and contemplate hopping over to Instagram instead than give this one a read.

But hold on just a second, because this story has a surprising hopeful twist.

In a now-viral TikTok post, a wife named Susan shows the mess she woke up to the morning after her husband had friends over to watch a game.

She was initially fuming as she approached the disarray. That is, until she saw the note her husband left behind, saying “I got it!”

For Susan, this changed everything. Her husband acknowledged his mess, communicated that awareness with his wife, and didn’t leave it assuming someone else would take care of it. Which, in turn, made her feel seen and looked out for.

“I just love that he acknowledges that [he] left a mess in the sink, and don’t worry, he’ll take responsibility for it, but anyways, we’ve come so far,” Susan says in the clip.

@susandoingsusanthings Leaving a simple note instantly made me not care about the dishes in the sink!! I love communication and we have come so far!! #susandoingsusanthings #marriedlife #marriage #marriagehumor #marriagegoals #marriagecomedy #marriagelife ♬ original sound – SusanDoingSusanThings

Many viewers agreed that this small shift made a world of difference.

“I love this. Like he was tired and didn’t want to do it but knows you shouldn’t have to. What ace communication and all it took was a post-it” one person wrote.

Another echoed, “It’s that easy!!! Like do I want to do the dishes after hosting? Heck no. Let me sleep and I’ll do it in the morning. But the note changes it ALL 🥰.”

On the other hand, many people were still left frustrated, arguing that expectations were still far too low if this simple gesture is receiving such applause.

One person even lamented, “That big sigh and you’ve come so far, I wonder how many fights it took 😫,” to which Susan replied, “We’ve been together for 20 years… Fight = growth.”

She also reiterated that the purpose of the post was to show in real-time how healthy, thoughtful communication between partners can help transform even the most menial task into a positive, even relationship-fortifying, experience.

And that is probably the biggest, most beneficial takeaway to lean into here. Ongoing communication difficulties is listed as the number one cause of divorce, even beating out infidelity. Yes, of course, moms are tired of being the default parents and wives are tired of pulling double duty, but if this story is any indicator, they are also yearning for their partners to meet them halfway on the communication front as well.

And as we can see, even the smallest gestures make big impacts.

In case anyone was wondering: Susan’s husband did do the dishes the next day ❤️

Couple’s elderly neighbors couldn’t attend their wedding, so they ‘married’ them at home

When Elena and Dave moved into their apartment in northern Manhattan in January of 2023, they had no idea their new neighbor would be the one to officiate their wedding—sort of.

Terri, the neighbor, introduced herself to the Dave and Elena right away, and they immediately thought she was a character.

“We started visiting her and the older woman, Jean, she takes care of and lives with—they love our dog,” Elena tells Upworthy. “Dave would sometimes cook them dinner, and we would eat together. Jean, who is 86, calls us her grandma. Both have lived in the neighborhood for decades—Jean since the ’80s and Terri her whole life.”

When the time came for the young couple to get married, Terri and Jean were all about it.

“They loved talking about our upcoming wedding and paid attention to every single part of the planning process, from the dress to the first dance,” says Elena.

However, Jean has mobility issues that made it impossible for the women to attend the wedding. So instead, they threw a private marriage ceremony for the couple in their apartment. Terri and Jean decorated from “the 99 cent store” as Terri calls it. They played all the different roles in the wedding, and it’s an absolute riot.

Watch the video Elena shared on Instagram:

From Terri playing the father, officiant and bouquet-catcher to Jean’s a capella serenade for them to dance to, it was a perfect “wedding.”

“It was lots of fun and definitely got us ready for our ‘real’ wedding two weeks later,” says Elena. “We dressed up, read vows, laughed throughout the ceremony and had pizza all together.”

Clearly, their getting married meant a lot to Terri and Jean, and the fact that they figured out a way to be a part of it is so heartwarming.

“The experience definitely showed me that weddings are NOT about the money you spend but the feeling behind it and the people who are present,” says Elena. “These two women were so supportive of our relationship and we felt surrounded by pure love. There were no expectations and hurt feelings and complications like in our real wedding—just simple awesomeness.”

“Whoever said New Yorkers were unfriendly have never lived here!” she adds.

Commenters agreed.

“Everybody shits on the big city but I’ve seen more heart and neighborliness in NYC in the last 9 years than anywhere else I’ve ever lived 😍 this is adorable and SO New York,” wrote one person.

“Our Brooklyn neighbors became our bonus grandparents,” shared another. “We would cook for each other and shared many COVID holidays together when traveling to be with family wasn’t safe. They’re the best 🥹”

Others just adored everything about it.

“This is the most loving, wholesome thing I’ve seen in ages,” wrote one person. “Brings me back to my ‘aunt’ Rose, the elderly lady who lived next door. She would have me to over parties and tea and it was a magnificent existence.”

“This might be the most precious thing I’ve seen in my entire life,” wrote another.

“THIS was the wedding. Anything after was a bonus celebration of love,” shared another.

Here’s to the kindness of neighbors, to Elena and Dave’s union, and to these two precious ladies who are so delightfully full of life and love.

Sweethearts adds ‘situationships’ to their iconic conversation hearts Valentine candies

Single-dom is in the air this coming Valentine’s Day. Maybe not completely single but also not in a relationship. You know, the whole thing is complicated. A lot of younger Millennials and Gen Zers are just not interested in being in full-blown relationships, but that doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy companionship with someone that has similar interests.

Every relationship that blurs the line between friendship and dating is different, but they all have one thing in common–they’re not dating. The concept of a “situationship” isn’t new, but they are more common with younger generations. What is new is that fuzzy undefined relationship being recognized by the iconic Valentine candy maker, Spangler Candy Company, who has made conversation candy hearts for more than 150 years.

Those candy hearts are easily recognizable and always say something sweet like, “LOVE YOU” or “KISS ME” written in all caps.

“Singles are taking ‘situationships’ to the next level this year, and Sweethearts is here for them,” Evan Brock, vice president of marketing for Spangler says in a press release. “The printing on Sweethearts isn’t always perfect. This is our way of embracing those imperfections in a way that taps into pop culture.”

Being in a situationship isn’t always fun for those involved in one. There are mixed reports on if situationships are harmful, with some professionals putting out tips on how to avoid them, which makes one wonder—why are they so popular?

The Bay Area CBT Center writes, “Situationships, with their vague boundaries and undefined statuses, often captivate individuals due to a psychological phenomenon known as intermittent reinforcement. Intermittent reinforcement occurs when desired behaviors are rewarded or reinforced sporadically rather than consistently. This unpredictability in the delivery of rewards or positive outcomes makes the behavior more resistant to extinction.”

multi-colored candy hearts with words on them

But these situationships also fulfill a need or else they wouldn’t be so prevalent. Elizabeth Armstrong, a sociology professor at the University of Michigan tells the BBC, “Right now, this solves some kind of need for sex, intimacy, companionship – whatever it is – but this does not have necessarily a long-term time horizon.”

Either way, it doesn’t seem like young adults are opting out of these types of relationships anytime soon, so marketing to that growing sector makes sense. Conversation hearts have been a staple candy for quite literally over a century, filling Valentine’s boxes at school and helping with marriage proposals.

It’s America’s favorite chalky seasonal candy and they’re including a demographic that may have otherwise opted out of Valentine’s gifts in an effort to not make things awkward. Now, you can fill a basket with whatever goodies you want with these situationship candies on full display so there’s no confusion with the undefined lines of the non-relationship relationship.

The Sweethearts will be blurry and misprinted to go with the theme of situationships and only available for a limited time started January 8th at 9 a.m., according to the press release. But they won’t be sold in stores, so if you’ve got a blurry sweetheart in your life you’ll want to run over to SweetheartsCandies.com to order a box before they’re gone.

What’s the adult version of being picked last in gym? 15 ways adults feel rejected, too.

Few things in life can make you feel lower than standing in front of your gym class and being the last person picked for a team. You stand there, staring at your feet, praying your name is called before the last person. It feels like being rejected socially and for your lack of athletic prowess simultaneously.

Unfortunately, the feeling of being left out doesn’t end in childhood. Even as adults, there are experiences that can give us that same lonely, sinking feeling of being chosen last in gym class.

A Reddit user named JuicyCiwa posed a question to the AskReddit subforum so people could share the situations that make them feel rejected as adults. They asked, “What’s the adult version of being picked last in gym class?” and it received over 6,600 responses.

Initially, the post feels like a bit of a downer because it’s person after person describing the socially humiliating moments we all endure as adults but rarely talk about. However, it’s also affirming to know that we’re not the only people who suffer rejection from friends, coworkers or family.

Here are 15 moments when adults feel the same as being picked last in gym class as a kid.

1. Left out of lunch

“Seeing everybody in the office return from a lunch outing you were never told about. And the even worse flip side, arriving at the location for a group outing, and nobody else shows up because it was canceled, but nobody told you.” — khendron

“How about: walking out to the parking lot for the office lunch outing? You walk toward the car you were assigned to ride in and watch it drive away.” — JJohnston015

2. Am I invited?

“Watching people plan an event in the same room as you but not inviting you.” — __DVYN__

3. Hello?

“When the group chat goes silent after you suggest something.” — PositiveEmo4

4. Not being in the group chat

“Finding out there is a group chat you aren’t part of.” — MaryJaneParker818

“Found out there was one with all the women in my family, but not me. Getting mean girled by your own mom/aunts/siblings.” — ProfSkeevs

5. Being invited to a party as an afterthought

“‘Oh you wanted to come? I didn’t think it would be your thing. But yeah, I guess you can come if you want to.'” — JustMyUserName47

6. Friends fade

“Being well-liked but never reached out to. If you don’t keep up the effort, everyone just fades away.” — Minmidmax

“This has been most of my friendships these last few years. I moved away for school, and boom, there went 90% of my relationships. I moved back and tried to reconnect with some people, just to figure out that most of my old friends refuse to initiate now. It always has to be me to reach out, otherwise, they won’t make time for me. I finally stopped trying. It’s disheartening, especially when it becomes obvious that you care more than the other people do. On the bright side, it showed me who my real friends are. My friend pool is smaller, but it’s much stronger too and I couldn’t be happier.” — Lovinlemon

“Especially as dudes cause we don’t really make new friends after our 20s. Everyone is just a ‘mate’ when you start working. I knew all of my best friends before I was 25.” — First_Time-Farmer1

7. Can you take a picture?

“Being asked to take a group picture of the group that you had come with.” — Either-Sherbert-8845

8. Pushed out

“Walking behind the group on the sidewalk because there’s no room for you to be next to them.” — BigRedStL

9. When your kid is left out

“Seeing pics on Facebook of your friend group having fun outings and sleepovers for their kids, but your kid wasn’t invited. Even though my kid is also seemingly good friends with all the kids that were there.” — Honey1375

“Ooh, this one hurts bad because it involves both you and your kid.” — No-Grocery-7118

14. “Keep talking, I’m listening”

“When someone is telling a story in a group, but no one listens and they trail off talking. But you’re doing the kind thing and making eye contact with them, so they know you are listening and can keep talking. They notice. But still choose not to finish what they were saying.” — Jbkites

15. Facebook blues

“You post some quote or meme on Facebook and not getting any likes/comments. One of your friends posts the same quote or meme and they receive lots of likes and comments from your mutual friends.” — Beigereige

Family’s outdoor cat jumps into action to save their dog from a coyote attack

People like to think cats are aloof and don’t care about anyone but themselves, but that’s not true. Well, the aloof part is true. They’re also pretty fickle about if they want to be touched or not, giving unsuspecting cat parents a quick swat for daring to think they want to be petted. Even still, that doesn’t mean they don’t love their family members, human and furry.

A family in Oklahoma found out just how much their outdoor cat loved their dog, Oakley. When the little white pooch was outside to go potty, she didn’t realize danger was just out of eyesight until it was too late. A group of coyotes began attacking the little dog, who was in that part of the yard all alone, but Binx, the family cat, sprung into action without hesitation after hearing the commotion.

Binx is part of the cat distribution system, meaning the family didn’t pick her out. The little black cat just showed up in their yard when she was about two months old, and it’s a good thing she did.

When Binx heard her fur-sister being attacked, she ran full force and jumped right toward the faces of the attacking coyotes, sending them running. Oakley was injured pretty badly in the attack, but the owners had no idea what happened until they looked at the security video after the dog was treated at the vet.

“It was inspiring to see our little outdoor cat just jump at two coyotes that were attacking this little dog that she loves and run them off,” Lane Dyer told KFOR News.

What To Watch: Our Picks For The TV Shows And Movies We Think You Should Stream This Week

reacher
amazon prime video

Each week our staff of film and TV experts surveys the entertainment landscape to select the ten best new/newish shows available for you to stream at home. We put a lot of thought into our selections, and our debates on what to include and what not to include can sometimes get a little heated and feelings may get hurt, but so be it, this is an important service for you, our readers. With that said, here are our selections for this week.

20. Grimsburg (Hulu)

GRIM
FOX

Over the last two years, Jon Hamm has dazzled as investigative reporter (of some renown) Irwin M. Fletcher in Confess, Fletch (a movie that gets better with every watch), launched into outer space with Reese Witherspoon on The Morning Show, and tussled with Juno Temple on Fargo. Now he’s set to launch Grimsburg, a new animated series about a master detective who returns to his mystery-filled hometown to patch things up with his family. Hamm has proven his comic sensibilities time and time again, so there’s a lot to look forward to with this foray into the exotic world of FOX animated sitcoms, a place where did his career-best work as a talking toilet on Bob’s Burgers.

Rustin is all of the following things:

— A biopic of Civil Rights leader Bayard Rustin, who helped MLK organize the 1963 March on Washington but whose efforts were minimized at the time and therefore largely forgotten since because he was openly gay at a time when that was not convenient for public figures

— From Higher Ground, the production company helmed by Barack and Michelle Obama

— Loaded with talent like Colman Domingo and Chris Rock and Jeffrey Wright and Audra McDonald

18. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix)

Nearly every actor from the original, cult-favorite Scott Pilgrim film is back for this anime-inspired Netflix series that also functions as a clever remix. Is it as good as the actual run of sequels we should have been given over the last 15 years? Noting could be, but it comes close, leaning on its all-world voice cast and the very specific charm that drove the film and Bryan Lee O’Malley’s original graphic novels.

17. Lawmen: Bass Reeves (Paramount Plus)

BASS
PARAMOUNT

Taylor Sheridan currently has 6666 in the works on the Yellowstone side, but first, he’s taking viewers back to the real Old West. David Oyelowo portrays the legendary Black U.S. Deputy Marshal. This series will harken back to the Post-Reconstruction era, in which Bass Reeves became a notorious frontier hero by capturing thousands of the most frightening criminals in the land. Oyelowo will be accompanied by Dennis Quaid, Garrett Hedlund, and Donald Sutherland.

16. Leo (Netflix)

LEO
NETFLIX

What if there was an animated movie for kids where Adam Sandler — now hear me out — voiced a talking lizard? And it was co-directed and co-written by Robert Smigel, the comedy genius behind many of the greatest SNL moments ever? And the rest of the voice cast included Jason Alexander, Cecily Strong, Bill Burr, Heidi Gardner, and Stephanie Hsu? Would you believe such a movie exists? Well, it does. It’s called Leo, and it’s on Netflix. Your kids need to be introduced to Adam Sandler eventually. Maybe start here and not, say, Uncut Gems. Save that until they’re older.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters stars Kurt Russell and Godzilla and… are you already sold? You should be. The first live-action TV show in the MonsterVerse — which also includes Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong — makes you care as much about the humans, including Kurt and his son Wyatt, as Godzilla and his “Titan” friends. In an up-and-down year for genre shows, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a highlight.

14. The Curse (Paramount Plus)

The Curse Nathan Fielder Emma Stone
Showtime

There are cringe comedies and then there’s Showtime’s The Curse, a limited series about a married pair of alt-HGTV home flippers gentrifying their New Mexico neighborhood via eco-friendly monstrosities and calling it philanthropy. Created by two masters of squirm – Benny Safdie and Nathan Fielder – the show is a voyeuristic exercise that tests fans’ capacity for second-hand embarrassment as its main characters, the affluent Asher (Fielder) and Whitney (a shockingly unlikable Emma Stone) bulldoze the soul of their small, impoverished community with just a few reality TV cameras and a staggering amount of white privilege. It’s the best, most uncomfortable TV show you’ll watch this year.

Mescal and Ronan play Junior and Hen, a couple stranded in their mundane life, living in a future ravaged by climate change. When one of them is offered a chance to escape with the caveat that their robotic replica will stay behind to keep the other company, hard questions about their marriage, their identities, and their purpose threaten to tear them apart. 11. May December (Netflix)

MAY
NETFLIX

There’s been a debate online on whether May December qualifies as “camp.” We have no idea, but we do know it’s a very good movie, one of the year’s best. The Todd Haynes film stars Natalie Portman as an actress who shadows a one-time tabloid sensation played by Julianne Moore for a role. It’s best to go in without knowing more than that, although fair warning: while May December is very funny, it’s also quietly devastating.

Somehow, Joel Kinnaman has now been physically transformed to barely look like Joel Kinnaman while still starring in this alternate-history space-race series, and in the year 2003, the Earth’s nations are competing like hell to capture and mine asteroids full of precious minerals. That doesn’t sound ominous at all, and of course, there’s still plenty of beefing between nations after Happy Valley has grown in size on Mars’ surface.

  • This is a series based on the best-selling adventure books by Rick Riordan
  • For those unfamiliar, Percy is “a 12-year-old modern demigod who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt”

The final six episodes of Netflix’s long-running look at the British royal family are here. We know how this all ends because we know the history. If you’ve come this far, it’s time to dive in for the end. So much could have gone wrong here with the recounting and dramatization of tragic events that shook the world, but Netflix does the thing here. Not an easy feat for sure.

GOOD: Fargo is back, finally, for a fifth installment that features Juno Temple in Home Alone mode and Jon Hamm in a cowboy hat and a murderous little secret that ties them together. There are homemade blowtorches and nipple rings and it’s all just extremely Fargo in all the ways you’ve come to expect.

BAD: Hmm. There’s really not any bad news here. But we already committed to this format so… let’s go with “it shouldn’t have taken until season five for them to cast Jon Hamm in Fargo.”

Good news for dads and possibly you, too. Lee Child’s bestselling novels continue to come to hulking life (starring the 6’2″ Alan Ritchson) as opposed to the Tom Cruise movie. Season 3 is already filming, but the second round is now available and should satisfy those pie-and-vending-machine cravings in the meantime. This batch of episodes doubles down on the brilliant simplicity of both Jack Reacher and this show when he teams up members of his former Army unit to stop some murder business. Together, they continue to dive into a high-stakes mystery full of betrayal and revelations, and lest you think that Reacher is all brains and no brain, well, think again.

Greta Gerwig’s massive summer blockbuster hits streaming. There’s not much to say that hasn’t been said. It’s wickedly smart and funny and sly. It’s much weirder than people expected, in the best ways possible. Margot Robbie is incredible as Barbie, providing layers of depth to a character who has rarely before had more than one. Ryan Gosling is a delight as the deeply confused Ken who is watching his simple little world crumble around him. There are cameos galore and touching moments and belly laughs. Swizz Beatz And Alicia Keys Announced They Will Bring Their Rare Art Collection To The Brooklyn Museum

Swizz Beatz (Kasseem Dean) and Alicia Keys will be displaying their rare art collection as a special exhibit at NYC’s Brooklyn Museum.

“Been holding this incredible news close to the chest,” the two wrote in a joint caption. “Now, it’s our pleasure to officially announce GIANTS: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys opening on February 10 @brooklynmuseum! Tickets to #GiantsBkM available now!!!!!! A MUST SEE SHOW. Link in bio… Let’s get 2024 started!! A BIG special thank you to all the GIANTS in the show!!! @TheDeanCollection.”

The couple have continued to build a presence in the art world. Swizz Beatz, according to Complex, has served on the museum’s board since 2015.

“There is great brand recognition with the Deans,” Kimberli Gant, a contemporary art curator who helped on the exhibit, told The New York Times. “People love Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, but they don’t know them as collectors.” Gant had previously assisted the Spike Lee show at the Brooklyn Museum.

In total, there is supposed to be over 100 artworks in the collection. Dean first started collecting art as a teenager in the ’90s and has since estimated he has thousands of pieces. “The reason why we doubled down on African American art is because people weren’t collecting it,” Dean told the publication.

The exhibit will open on February 10, and more information can be found here.

Check out Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys’ announcement of the exhibit above.

Shortly after Cher had filed an emergency request to have a temporary conservatorship placed on her son, Elijah Blue Allman, a Los Angeles judge denied it. Allman had showed up in court to dispute the move, and the judge ruled he needed extra time to review Cher’s claims that he is in danger for “severe mental health and substance abuse issues,” according to Rolling Stone.

Cher’s lawyer had argued that Elijah Blue Allman is about to receive money from the trustee of the estate of his late father, Gregg Allman, and they believed it would be “spent on drugs.”

However, he disputed this claim, pointing out that he had allegedly been “clean and sober” for three months now.

“Like many people, I have struggled with addiction and spent money in ways that have not always been the most responsible,” Allman shared. “However, I am now under the care of Dr. Howard Samuels and am attending AA meetings. I have dismissed my petition for dissolution of marriage and I am reconciling with my wife so that we can work on our relationship now that I have found a path to sobriety.”

Although Cher’s emergency request was denied, she is still able to petition the court for a temporary conservatorship — just not an expedited one, according to the publication. The next hearing is set for January 29. An additional hearing for a permanent conservatorship will take place in March.
