Regardless of the constant online debate, for many artists, music metrics are vital to several parts of their creative strategies. This year alone, rap was scrutinized for its difficulty in securing the No. 1 spot on the charts. That was until Lil Uzi Vert, Doja Cat, and Drake dropped new projects. Today (November 19), the 2023 Billboard Music Awards reminded musicians, producers, and fans who dominated the charts throughout the year.

Taylor Swift led the nomination pack, pulling in 20 across different categories, including Top Artist. Meanwhile, SZA and Morgan Wallen trailed close behind with 17 nominations each. Yes, viewers at home are locked in for other aspects of the show, like the performances, but everyone wants to know we secured a trophy.

Fans Praise Kesha For Removing Diddy’s Name From Her Song’s Lyrics At ‘The Only Love Tour’ Stop Following Cassie Lawsuit

Getty Image

It looks like Diddy, also known as Brother Love, isn’t receiving any from “Your Love Is My Drug” singer Kesha. Yesterday (November 18), during Kesha’s It Only Love Tour stop in Los Angeles, attendees believe she subtly showed her support for fellow entertainer Cassie.

Earlier in the week, Cassie filed a lawsuit against Diddy, alleging that he raped and physically abused her while they were in a relationship. Although the case has since been settled, and Diddy continues to profess his innocence, Kesha was sure to make a slight adjustment as she sang her breakout track, “Tik Tok,” at the Hollywood Palladium.

In a video captured by concertgoers, Kesha sings, “Wake up in the mornin’ feelin’ just like me / Get my glasses, I’m about to hit this scene.” Instead of the track’s original line, “Wake up in the mornin’ feelin’ like P Diddy / Grab my glasses, I’m out the door, I’m gonna hit this city.”

Fans online took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise Kesha for modifying the record’s lyrics.

“Oh, she is so iconic. We need to start holding these men accountable,” wrote one fan.

Kesha has addressed the matter further. However, as a survivor of assault allegedly by a prominent figure in music, Kesha must’ve felt called to use her platform in some way.

Last week Dex Carvey, the son of comic and performer Dana Carvey, passed away after an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old. The news was spread via an Instagram post, in which Carvey praised his late son, who he said “loved life.” On Saturday, Carvey’s old show, SNL, slipped in a tribute to the former cast member’s family.

Per Entertainment Weekly, during the closing farewell segment of the episode, Colin Jost could be seen on the right side of the stage, holding up a sign. It read, “We love you, Dana and Paula,” referring to both Carvey and his wife Paula Zwagerman.

In the Instagram post he took live on Thursday, Carvey wrote about the “terrible tragedy” that had befallen his family. He wrote movingly about his son’s exuberance.

“It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun,” Carvey wrote. “But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee.”

Carvey also made sure to touch on an important subject. “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers,” he wrote.

The Chargers Lost To Green Bay After Quentin Johnston Dropped A Potential Go-Ahead TD

quentin johnston drop
FOX

The Los Angeles Chargers have a unique ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and on Sunday afternoon in Green Bay they managed to do just that, falling to 4-6 with a 23-20 loss to the Packers.

The Chargers were uneven all day on offense, struggling to get anything going against Green Bay and had only put 13 points on the board in the first three quarters. Despite that, they were still in the game and finally woke up at seemingly the right time when Justin Herbert led a go-ahead touchdown drive with 5:24 left in the fourth quarter, as he fired a rocket to Kenan Allen in the end zone to put the Chargers up four.

However, that lead would only last a couple minutes as Jordan Love found Romeo Doubs in the end zone for a long touchdown completion, pushing the Packers back in front.

The Chargers would have to punt on their next drive after going backwards and facing 4th-and-20 deep in their own end zone, but would get it back with 1:08 left after their defense forced the needed stop.

After a near disaster with a fumble in the backfield, the Chargers worked it to their own 30 and faced a 3rd-and-6 with 30 seconds to go. There, the good version of Herbert reappeared as he threw a dart down the sideline to rookie Quentin Johnston who had beaten his man down the field and had nothing but green grass in front of him. Unfortunately, despite getting two hands on it, Johnston couldn’t bring it in, bouncing it off his knee on a brutal drop that could’ve been a game-winning touchdown.

Whether he would’ve stayed on his feet if he caught it cleanly is a bit debatable, but if nothing else, the Chargers would’ve been set up in field goal range for, at worst, a chance at a game-tying kick. Instead, Herbert had his fourth down pass batted down at the line of scrimmage and the Chargers suffered their latest mind-bending loss.

Cardi B Called Out Joe Biden As She Slammed New York City’s Proposed Budget Cuts Affecting Public Libraries, Local Schools, And More

cardi b hot97

Cardi B’s online rants have made her a viral sensation. Although the “Bongos” rapper promised to take a break from social media, she came to Will Smith’s aid last week after some online gossip. She returned today, Sunday, November 19, because she had something else to get off her chest.

As a Bronx, New York native, Cardi was furious to learn about New York City’s recent proposed budget cuts. In an Instagram livestream, Cardi expressed anger about the pullbacks from the area’s public libraries, local schools, and more. She wasn’t afraid to tie President Joe Biden and New York City’s mayor Eric Adams into the fold.

“I’m an angry b*tch right now… I need y’all to spread this video, and if something happens to me, it’s because I’m speaking the truth,” said Cardi. “In New York, there is a $120 million budget cut that’s going to affect schools, public libraries, and the police department. And a $5 million budget cut in sanitation. B*tch, we are gonna be drowning in f**king rats.

“I’m lucky. I’m blessed,” she added. “I’m whatever the f*ck, but what’s going to happen to my nieces? What’s going to happen to nephews? What’s going to happen to my cousins, aunts, and my friends.”

Cardi has spoken out on several social issues, including inflation’s impact on the cost of groceries. She even lent her likeness to President Biden for his election campaign, but apparently, that is something we will no longer do moving forward.

“I don’t give a f*ck, I’m not endorsing any presidents no more,” Cardi said. “How is that $120 million budget cut in New York City for schools, libraries, police safety, and sanitation, yet Joe Biden is talking about, ‘Yeah, we can fund two wars.”

Budget-Friendly Rums Under $30 — Here’s What The Bartenders Pour

Havana Club/Appleton Estates/Brugal/Mount Gay/istock/Uproxx
Havana Club/Appleton Estates/Brugal/Mount Gay/istock/Uproxx

If you bought a pair of pants on sale and later realized there was a hole in a less-than-desirable place, you wouldn’t consider that much of a bargain, right? The same goes for alcohol. You wouldn’t buy a bottle of bottom-shelf, hangover-inducing, harsh-tasting rum for less than the price of a three-cheese burrito and consider it a “deal.”

Who cares how cheap trash is? What’s the right price for swill?

When it comes to bargain bottles of rum (or any spirit for that matter), we aren’t in the “it’s all good as long as it’s cheap” lane. We’re talking about value-per-dollar — reasonably priced expressions that are complex, flavorful, and well-made. And to find these balanced, sometimes even award-winning rums, we often turn to the professionals behind the bar for guidance.

We asked a few of our favorite bartenders to tell us the best bargain rums under $30 that are truly worth buying. Keep scrolling to see all of their sugarcane-centric choices.

Flor de Caña 4 Añejo Oro

Flor de Caña 4 Añejo Oro
Flor de Caña

Alex Fitzgerald, beverage director at Paseo in Louisville

ABV: 40%

Average Price: $22

The Rum:

Flor de Caña 4 Añejo Oro is a great aged rum for a very affordable price. This is especially great if you want to pair it with coffee in an espresso martini. The rum stands up to mixed ingredients and expresses its smooth character in cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

It has a lovely demerara sweetness, the spice notes I look for in a sipping and cocktailing rum, and it doesn’t break the bank.

Brugal Extra Viejo

Brugal Extra Viejo
Brugal

Federico Doldi, food and beverage director at Gansevoort Meatpacking in New York City

ABV: 40%

Average Price: $28

The Rum:

I recommend Brugal Extra Viejo Rum for an affordable sipping or mixing option. Brugal Extra Viejo is blended using the distillery’s older reserves, aged white American oak casks that previously held bourbon.

Tasting Notes:

It has notes of wood, spice, orange, and vanilla, offering a full flavor profile and balanced finish at the end of each sip, and can also be appreciated in a mixed drink.

Ten To One Caribbean White Rum

Ten To One Caribbean White Rum
Ten To One

Tsuru Goto, food and beverage manager at Society Cafe in New York City

ABV: 45%

Average Price: $25

The Rum:

I love Ten To One Caribbean White Rum. It might seem like a lesser-known sleeper pick but it has won enough awards that it really should be more highly regarded. First of all, it is additive-free. You should definitely use this rum to make a classic daiquiri. It’s delicious.

Tasting Notes:

It is really easy to work with, given its inviting nose, complexity, that touch of sweetness, and some really nice tight flavors that make it taste great alone or paired with anything you want to mix a cocktail with.

Appleton Estate Signature Blend

Appleton Estate Signature Blend
Appleton Estate

Hunter Douglas, bar lead at L’Ardente in Washington, DC

ABV: 40%

Average Price: $20

The Rum:

Appleton Estate Signature Blend is a great rum to have on hand at all times. It can be served on the rocks and works well in both spirit-forward cocktails like an old fashioned or in something refreshing, like a daiquiri.

Tasting Notes:

For the price, it’s surprisingly complex. Notes of maple and nuttiness bring depth of flavor to either style of cocktail.

Mount Gay Eclipse

Mount Gay Eclipse
Mount Gay

Daniele Flumiani, restaurant manager at The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort in Miami

ABV: 40%

Average Price: $22

The Rum:

Mount Gay Eclipse is a popular and versatile Barbadian rum that can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks or mixed in various cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

Mount Gay Eclipse is a complex rum. It is very balanced and has an approachable flavor profile with fruit and floral notes and a hint of vanilla.

Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry Rum

Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry Rum
Plantation

Jazz Craft, beverage director at Proxi in Chicago

ABV: 43%

Average Price: $28

The Rum:

A great bargain rum for sipping is any of Plantation Single Origin rums. Each one is a beautiful representation of distillation methods used in each country and is all finished in French Oak to help round out any aggressive flavors. The one I really enjoy is Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry Rum. It was created to pay homage to the traditional pot still Jamaican rums of the 1800s.

Tasting Notes:

This award-winning rum has a nice floral, fruity rum with a ton of coconut, pineapple, vanilla, and gentle island spices.

Bacardi Reserva Ocho

Bacardi Reserva Ocho
Bacardi

Josue Mancero, beverage director and bar manager at Jook Sing in Chicago

ABV: 40%

Average Price: $29

The Rum:

My favorite bargain rum is Bacardi Reserva Ocho, which comes right around under $30, and it’s perfect for shaking daiquiris, drinking neat, or even an old-fashioned. It’s balanced and well-rounded.

Tasting Notes:

Flavors of ripe banana, dried fruits, vanilla beans, caramel, and rich oak make for an exceptional bargain rum.

Plantation 3 Stars White Rum

Plantation 3 Stars White Rum
Plantation

Mark Gallagher, bartender at Talbott Cucina in Chicago

ABV: 41.2%

Average Price: $20

The Rum:

Plantation 3 Stars White Rum. Made with rums from Trinidad, Jamaica, and Barbados, it’s crafted at the same high level as their whole estimable line. This is even though it’s a bargain-priced white rum

Tasting Notes:

Given that it’s blended by a master cognac maker, it’s well worth sipping as well as mixing. The delicate grassiness and fresh citrus distinguish the blend.

Foursquare Probitas

Foursquare Probitas
Foursquare

Kevin Beary, beverage director at Three Dots and a Dash in Chicago

ABV: 47%

Average Price: $28

The Rum:

$30 is a bit of an in-between spot for rum. Once you get into the mid-thirties you can really get some incredible rums. In the budget category, there are a few rums that represent a very good value. A very versatile option is Foursquare Probitas which is a blend of aged Foursquare Rum from Barbados and full-bodied Pot Still Rum from the Hampden Estate distillery in Jamaica. It is aged, but charcoal-filtered which makes for what some consider a white rum.

Tasting Notes:

It has more flavor and depth than the typical white rums you find in the budget category, so it makes great sour cocktails like Daiquiris. There are flavors of banana, vanilla, and a pleasant note of oak.

Havana Club Añejo Clasico

Havana Club Añejo Clasico
Havana Club

Wilmer Reyes, USBG bartender at Raines Law Room in New York City

ABV: 40%

Average Price: $21

The Rum:

Havana Club Añejo has those great properties in a rum that make you want to sip it or stir it into a stiff cocktail. It has enough body to stand on its own, but it can also be mixed with some sherry or an amaro to make something truly complex.

Tasting Notes:

For the price, you’d have a hard time finding a more complex, easy-drinking rum. Notes of candied almonds, vanilla beans, molasses, oak, floral flavor, and light spices make for a truly enjoyable rum.

The Animation Studio Behind ‘Chicken Run’ And ‘Wallace And Gromit’ Are in Trouble As They’re About To Run Out Of Clay

Chicken Run
Dreamworks

Who doesn’t love Aardman? Since the 1970s the animation studio has been delighting audiences with their (mostly) claymation creations. They’ve given us Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run (including a belated, Mel Gibson-less sequel), Shaun the Sheep, and parts of Peter Gabriel’s mind-blowing video for “Sledgehammer.” And now, alas, they’re in a pickle.

Per The Telegraph, Newclay Products, the company that has long provided Aardman with a special clay, called Newplast, has gone out of business. Perhaps that doesn’t seem like a big deal, but the clay Aardman has been using for eons helps give the films their special look. News of the company’s closing came as such a shock to Aardman that they bought up whatever Newplast they had left. Now they only have enough clay for one more movie, namely the Wallace and Gromit movie slated for next year.

When that film comes out, it will already be missing one key component: Peter Sallis, the voice of cheese-loving crackpot inventor Wallace since the first short, A Grand Day Out. Sallis passed away in 2017. His last stint as the beloved character was in the 2009 short A Matter of Loaf and Death.

Could Aardman find a new clay company? Almost certainly. Will it be the same? Maybe not. But for now, there’s always the forthcoming Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, which hits Netflix on December 15. You can watch the trailer below.

When Does Sexyy Red’s ‘Hood Hottest Princess’ Deluxe Come Out?

Not only is Sexyy Red expectiing a second child, she’s also at work on a new release. On November 17, the“No Panties” rapper took to her official social media pages to announce that after fans begged her for an extended version of her Hood Hottest Princess project, she would finally give in.

So, when does Sexyy Red’s Hood Hottest Princess Deluxe come out? Sadly, that’s not yet known. In the rapper’s upload to Instagram, she left her followers with the responsibility of choosing a release date. “When y’all want it 🤭🫶🏽,” asked Sexyy Red. She then added, “Tag an artist u wanna see on thurr I’m finishing it rn 👩🏽‍🍳.”

Sexyy Red hasn’t confirmed when the deluxe album expected to hit streaming services, but it’s already received support from her past collaborator, Drake, who liked her social media post.

With Sexyy Red’s friend and fellow rapper Nicki Minaj’s album Pink Friday 2, slated to drop on December 8, fans hope she’ll follow suit soon after. Since she’s expecting her second child, it would be the perfect maternity leave send-off. Also, depending on when she gives birth, she could send fans into a spiral if she’s announced as an opener for Nicki Minaj’s 2024 tour run.
