Lisa Marie Presley Was So Upset About The Portrayal Of Her Father In ‘Priscilla’ That She Emailed Sofia Coppola About It

Just a few months before her death, Lisa Marie Presley had vowed to speak out about Sofia Coppola’s new movie, Priscilla, which focuses on the tumultuous and controversial courtship between Presley’s mother and the late legendary singer Elvis Presley.

According to emails obtained by Variety, Lisa Marie was furious over the portrayal of her father and wrote Coppola in September 2022 shortly before the film started production. Lisa Marie had seen a version of the script and described it as “shockingly vengeful and contemptuous.” Presley also pleaded with Coppola that the film would only further strain her relationship with her mother.

“My father only comes across as a predator and manipulative. As his daughter, I don’t read this and see any of my father in this character. I don’t read this and see my mother’s perspective of my father. I read this and see your shockingly vengeful and contemptuous perspective and I don’t understand why?” Presley wrote in one of her messages.

Presley later vowed to take her fight against Priscilla to the media.

“I will be forced to be in a position where I will have to openly say how I feel about the film and go against you, my mother and this film publicly,” Lisa Marie wrote.

While Presley wouldn’t get a chance to contest the film, Coppola did respond to her emails. The writer/director reportedly wrote back, “I hope that when you see the final film you will feel differently, and understand I’m taking great care in honoring your mother, while also presenting your father with sensitivity and complexity.”

According to Variety, the film is based on the book Elvis and Me, and prior to Lisa Marie’s complaints, there were already efforts to “tone down” some of the book’s elements about the couple’s relationship that would not play well with modern audiences.

Priscilla is now playing in theaters.

‘Succession’ Actor Alan Ruck Speaks Out After Crashing His Car Into A Pizzeria On Halloween

Alan Ruck doesn’t have a great history with cars, but at least he is aware of it. The Succession actor perhaps had one too many pieces of candy corn on Tuesday night (October 31st) and ended up in a four-way crash that landed him inside a pizza joint. Life moves pretty fast after all.

The crash left two people injured, but otherwise, it seems like everyone is okay, including Ruck. “I’m fine, thank God nobody was killed,” the actor told TMZ. Even though the Succession star was walking with a limp and sleeve over his knee, he claimed, “This wasn’t because of the accident, this is because I’m getting old.”

The cause of the crash is still unknown and police are still investigating the surveillance footage, which clearly shows Ruck’s Rivian truck half inside the restaurant. It’s a very unconventional way to trick or treat. The actor reportedly stuck around after the crash to help others, and local business owner Tim Ratcliff told KTLA, “I asked [Alan], ‘Are you okay?’ And the first thing out of his mouth was, ‘Is everyone [else] okay? I think I hit someone. Is he okay?’” Ratcliff claimed that the actor didn’t know why he crashed, though TMZ reports that there was “no indication” of a DUI.

Hopefully, Ruck’s dad won’t notice that the mileage is a little off on his car when he gets home from work.

Bones Hyland Admits He Doesn’t ‘Know What’s Going On’ With The In-Season Tournament

The NBA’s In-Season Tournament officially begins on Friday night. For the next month-plus, teams will compete on Tuesday and Friday nights for the right to win the inaugural NBA Cup, and while it remains to be seen how well it will go over, the league is banking on this adding a level of competition and excitement to the early days of the regular season.

The problem is that, like any new thing, it’s going to take a little time for people to get used to it. That doesn’t just means fans — during a press availability on Friday, Los Angeles Clippers guard Bones Hyland admitted he’s still trying to figure out how it all works.

“I’m not even gonna lie, I don’t even know what’s going on,” Hyland said. “I don’t even know what’s going on, I don’t even know how it works, I don’t know anything, honestly. I’m just looking at the schedule, and I see on the schedule, I see, like, a trophy next to one of the games. I’m like, I feel like the trophy’s supposed to be in, you know, July.

“All I know is I’m just trying to win the games, that’s all,” Hyland continued. After being told that he’ll pocket an extra $500,000 if the Clippers win the tournament, Hyland admitted that there is, indeed, some extra motivation to go out and win the whole thing.

How A Non-Elvis Song From ‘Priscilla’ Took Over My Life

There’s one good and one very annoying thing about going to the movie theater at least once a week. Let’s start with the good. The more treks to the cinema, the higher the chance that you’re going to watch your new favorite movie of all-time (unless it’s Freelance, then you might watch your new least favorite movie of all-time, which is fun in a different way). The bad? Being assaulted by the same trailers, over and over again.

I still remember every beat of the trailer for Midnight Special, a movie that came out seven years ago. I’ve heard good things, but I never saw it (sorry Michael Shannon!) as an act of revenge for being exposed to the preview so frequently. Maybe that’s not fair to the movie, but a person (me) can only hear the slowed-down cover of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer so many times before losing it.

More recently, I’ve seen the teaser trailer for Priscilla before every screening at my local Alamo Drafthouse. But in this case, I don’t mind. For one thing, it’s short. Also, it’s easier to sit through an overplayed trailer when it’s for a movie that looks good, and the A24 film from director Sofia Coppola looks very good.

It’s fair to assume that the teaser trailer for Priscilla — a biopic of Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ wife, played by Cailee Spaeny; a Lilo and Stitch fan portrays The King — would be soundtracked by Presley’s deep catalog of classics. It’s one of the reasons why the Baz Luhrmann fever dream starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, in an insane performance I will defend with my life, from last year made almost $300 million at the box office. People like Elvis!

But Coppola couldn’t get the rights to his music. “They don’t like projects that they haven’t originated,” the filmmaker explained to the Hollywood Reporter about Elvis Presley Enterprises, “and they’re protective of their brand.”

So instead of effective-if-obvious montages set to “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Love Me Tender” and other Elvis songs with “love” in the title, Priscilla includes music from the likes of Alice Coltrane, Dolly Parton, and Tommy James & the Shondells. I haven’t seen the film yet, but I hope the soundtrack includes “How You Satisfy Me” by Spectrum, the woozy organ-heavy song from the teaser trailer. It sounds like if Suicide, well, wasn’t named Suicide. I’ve become obsessed with the track, to the point where it could break into my year-end Spotify Wrapped list. I’ve listened to the reverb-drenched song five times while writing this article, so if there are any typos, blame Peter Kember (who, fun fact, would later work with MGMT and Beach House).

An Elvis song might have made more “sense” in the Priscilla teaser. It could have done the emotional heavy lifting due to many people’s nostalgic familiarity with Presley (shout out to the “(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear” scene from Full House). But by not being able to use his music, “that made us be more creative,” Coppola said. “How You Satisfy Me” is an inventive choice — and it works better in the teaser than any Elvis song could. It’s evocative, mysterious, and daring, three words that a young Priscilla might have used to describe Elvis when she was first being wooed. It goes against what you expect from a biopic, not unlike Coppola’s brilliant 1980s new wave and post-punk soundtrack to the 18th-century period piece Marie Antoinette.

“Jailhouse Rock” is as overplayed as the Ant-Man trailer that drove me nuts. But not “How You Satisfy Me.” It’s as creative as Coppola hoped. If Elvis is the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, she’s the queen of movie trailer songs.

Taylor Sheridan’s ‘2024’: Everything We Know So Far About The ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Including The Release Date, Trailer & More

Taylor Sheridan does not seem at all discouraged by the departure of Yellowstone leading man Kevin Costner. The prolific writer has a ton of shows to keep his cowboy-oriented fires burning, and even when it comes to the original Yellowstone series itself, John Dutton already seems an afterthought. Paramount recently announced that the flagship series would air its final episodes (and no one knows whether Costner will be back or if his character will simply be written out of existence) beginning in November 2024.

From there, the storyline could shift into the 6666 series, or it could go to one of the newly announced spinoffs. Yes, there will be more beyond the already-aired 1883 (with Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Billy Bob Thornton) and continuing 1923 (starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren), even though god only knows that Sheridan has plenty of non-Yellowstone fare coming. That includes Lawmen: Bass Reeves premiering in November 2023 with David Oyelowo in the title role and the upcoming Land Man with Billy Bob Thornton.

What’s next? There shall be a mystery spinoff called 1944 and one that we know a little bit more about, 2024. Let’s talk out what we’ve heard so far.

Plot

Sheridan is keeping his cards close to his sleeve at the moment, although it would make the most sense if this became the confirmed Matthew McConaughey-starring spinoff, which was also previously ambiguously described other than being a “franchise extension to continue the Dutton saga.” It would make an incredible amount of sense if this series filmed at the “Four Sixes” or the recently-acquired (by Taylor Sheridan) real-life 6666 Ranch near Guthrie, Texas. There’s certainly enough room for both shows, given that 6666 is the size of two Chicagos. One can also imagine that Sheridan was inspired to dream up 2024 with all the Hollywood downtime going around this year due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes.

As Variety points out, chatter also suggests that this is the “contemporary series” that is meant to star Matthew McConaughey. This hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, but we’ll be watching for updates.

Cast

As mentioned already, this could be the McConaughey-Yellowstone show that he described as an “awesome vacation” and essentially a dream come true for the Ulvade, Texas native. He added, “I think good acting emulates life. Real life is where this stuff comes from.”

Who else? Variety does report that “an individual with knowledge of the series” let it slip that there will be “crossover characters” in 2024 along with new members of the Dutton family soap-opera saga. Certainly, there’s still more than enough audience demand to support this blend of old-and-new cowboy drama.

Release Date

When will this show debut on Paramount+ and possibly the Paramount Network, too? The release date shall remain a mystery for the moment, but 2024 is expected to go into production in (when else?) 2024, so perhaps there will be a quick turnaround and realized release date, you know, it turns into 2025. Fingers crossed.

Trailer

Consider this spot a placeholder. We will certainly post the trailer for 2024 when it arrives, but for now, here’s a Paramount+ video that shows Sheridan talking about other future series, including Land Men and (of course) Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Has Sheridan cloned himself to be able to pull all of these shows off? Only he knows for sure.

Fingers crossed for a 2024 release date soon.

Travis Kelce Was Asked If He’s In Love With Taylor Swift, And He Answered It All Too Well

Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce has parted with his mustache, but his relationship with Taylor Swift is alive and well, even though Morgan Freeman does not “think about them at all.” While Swifties are still parsing whether the newly released 1989 (Taylor’s Version) track “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]” is about her long since dead relationship with Harry Styles, reporters in Germany want status updates on “Traylor” (or “Tayvis“).

In a clip circulated on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Entertainment Tonight, an off-camera reporter asked Kelce for “the latest status” and if he’s in love with Swift. “What is the latest status?” Kelce responded. “Um, the latest is I got to see her last week. That’s the latest status right there.” When pressed about the whole being in love part, the two-time Super Bowl champion said, “Um, I’m gonna keep my personal relationship personal.”

Then, a separate off-camera reporter asked if Swift will attend the Chiefs’ game against the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday, November 5. Kelce remained a good sport and quipped, “You know what? When I mention, or everybody knows that she’s at the game, the over/under on my catches kind of goes up and down. The spread goes up and down. So, I don’t wanna mess with any of that stuff, so I’m just gonna keep it to myself.”

Swift is due to resume her The Eras Tour next Thursday, November 9, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Chiefs will enjoy their bye week after this Sunday’s game, and Entertainment Tonight exclusively reported on October 19 that Kelce plans to attend the beginning of Swift’s The Eras Tour international leg.

“Travis and Taylor are all in,” an unnamed source told ET. “The two are very into each other and are enjoying their time together but are also planning for the future. Taylor starts her international tour in November, and Travis is planning to be there to spend time with her. Travis and Taylor are very serious about their careers, and the two bond over that and want to show support for each other whenever they can.”

Unsurprisingly, Taylor Swift Absolutely Dominated Spotify’s Weekly Top Songs Chart With ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’

Streaming services have become the way the majority of fans consume the music they love these days, and Spotify is the clear leader in the streaming space. That makes their tracking data significant, and fortunately, the company maintains the terrific Spotify Charts website. The site offers a variety of charts, some broad and some impressively granular, that shows what songs and artists are being listened to the most on the world’s biggest streaming service. So, the Weekly Top Songs charts can serve as a useful complement to the Billboard Hot 100 and offer further insight into what music is currently making music fans move.

Take a look at the the top 10 songs on the latest Weekly Top Songs USA chart (for the tracking week ending November 2) below. Check out the full top 200 list here, and if you’re curious about what the entire world is listening to, find the Weekly Top Songs Global chart here.

10. Taylor Swift — “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)”

Yes, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) just came out, so unsurprisingly, we’re gonna see a lot of it on its first week on the Spotify charts. In fact, I’ll just spoil it now: Swift has this week’s entire top 10 (she owns the top 12 spots, actually, and 19 of the top 20).

9. Taylor Swift — “Welcome To New York (Taylor’s Version)”

It’s not surprising to see “Welcome To New York” make the cut: It’s the first song on the album, so all of the many, many front-to-back 1989 (Taylor’s Version) listens that happened this past week started here.

8. Taylor Swift — “Out Of The Woods (Taylor’s Version)”

“Out Of The Woods” is another natural inclusion, as the original version was one of the singles from the original 1989 album. It was actually one of the album’s later singles, released over a year after the album came out, but it still managed a top-20 peak on the Hot 100.

7. Taylor Swift — “Blank Space (Taylor’s Version)”

“Blank Space” was another fan-favorite single and is one of the three from the album to go No. 1 on the Hot 100.

6. Taylor Swift — “Style (Taylor’s Version)”

“Style” feels like it went No. 1, but it actually peaked at No. 6 back in the day. Regardless, it was still a significant hit and is one of the most beloved songs in Swift’s discography, so a “Taylor’s Version” is very welcomed.

5. Taylor Swift — “Suburban Legends (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”

Of course, Swifties were perhaps most excited about the “From The Vault” songs included on the album, so (another spoiler) those make up the rest of this week’s top 10.

4. Taylor Swift — “Say Don’t Go (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”

The “From The Vault” songs in this week’s top 5 spots crushed it: They all had at least 13 million Spotify streams in the US, while “Say Don’t Go” racked up a hair under 16 million.

3. Taylor Swift — “”Slut!” (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”

Of the “From The Vault” songs, ““Slut!”” was probably the one that drew the most attention pre-release due to its provocative title. As the title suggests, the song addresses ever-present perceptions about her romantic life.

2. Taylor Swift — “Now That We Don’t Talk (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”

Swift recently explained why this song didn’t make it onto the original 1989, saying, “It was so hard to leave it behind, but I think we wrote it a little bit towards the end of the process, and we couldn’t get the production right at the time. But we had tons of time to perfect the production this time and figure out what we wanted the song to sound like. […] I think it’s the shortest song I’ve ever had, but I think it packs a punch. I think it really goes in. For the short amount of time we have, I think it makes its point.”

1. Taylor Swift — “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”

This one is last on the 1989 (Taylor’s Version) tracklist, but No. 1 on this week’s Spotify chart with just over 20 million streams in the US. Swift recently said of this song, “‘Is It Over Now?’ was a song I wanted to end the album because I think it’s the kind of funny play on words of like, ‘Is the album over now.’ I always saw this song as sort of a sister to ‘Out Of The Woods’ and ‘I Wish You Would.’ I kind of saw those songs as similar, so unfortunately, when we were making these decisions on what to put on 1989 and what to leave behind, I had to make some tough choices.”

Kevin Durant Pushed Back On Comparaisons Of Victor Wembanyama And Himself: ‘I Don’t See Anybody Else In His Game’

For the second game in a row, the San Antonio Spurs were able to get the best of the Phoenix Suns. While the team needed a torrid fourth quarter comeback to narrowly squeak by Phoenix on Tuesday, the Spurs pummeled the Suns on Thursday, picking up an emphatic 132-121 win in which they led by as many as 27 points.

Thursday’s game was the best of Victor Wembanyama’s young career, as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft had a moster evening. Wembanyama was nothing short of brilliant, going for 38 points on 15-for-26 shooting with 10 rebounds, two blocks, two assists, and a steal. It’s easy to make the comparisons between himself — a tall, skinny dude who is able to take over a basketball game — and one particular Phoenix Suns superstar, but after the game, that superstar in question made clear that he believes comparisons between the two are not accurate.

“I don’t see anybody else in his game,” Kevin Durant said at the 31 second mark of the above video. “I know we both skinny, and I’m sure he said he watched me growing up, but he’s his own player. I’m sure he watched so many great players in the league and tried to emulate just about everybody — you can tell, in his enthusiasm for the game, you can tell that through the TV and playing against him. So, he’s his own player, person, he’s gonna create his own lane that’s much different than anybody who’s ever played. And you can try to compare, but he’s gonna carve out his own lane.”

Durant and Wembanyama were complimentary of one another after their first game, with Durant calling Wembanyama a “unique player” and Wembanyama saying there are elements of Durant’s game that he can take and apply to his own game.

Notoriously Toxic Trump’s Lawyers Had The Audacity To Boldly Claim That His ‘Uniquely Powerful Voice’ Is Too Vital ‘To The American Fabric’ To Be Silenced By A Gag Order

The eldest Trump progeny have been their own sideshow during their dad’s New York fraud trial. Don Jr. actually got flirty during the course of testifying, Eric claimed to be just a rando “construction guy,” and Ivanka tried (and failed) to claim that her kids’ school run keeps her from coming to court anytime between Mondays and Fridays. Meanwhile, Donald Trump Sr. is still so upset — about one of his other trials for election interference — that U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan (who is located in D.C.) had the nerve to reinstate a gag order upon his glorious (ex)-presidential rhetoric and lies.

Chutkan did so on the grounds that Trump’s previous attacks on certain individuals (who have with material knowledge in this case) resulted in harassment and threats from the MAGA faithful. The judge declared that this trial involves all U.S. citizens’ free speech, not simply that of Trump, which is important in terms of not making witnesses feel intimidated and threatened during the pursuit of justice. So, Chutkan stood firm in her decision. As a result, Trump’s latest batch of lawyers are attempting to run around in circles for the guy, lest they end up witnessing some ketchup-bottle fury.

Via Forbes, Trump’s ranting voice is so “uniquely powerful” in maintaining “the American fabric,” that he must be allowed to speak. Here’s language from the Trump lawyers’ filing:

President Trump’s uniquely powerful voice has been a fixture of American political discourse for eight years, and central to the American fabric for decades.

The prosecution’s claim that his core political speech suddenly poses a threat to the administration of justice is baseless. The prosecutors and potential witnesses addressed by President Trump’s speech are high-level government officials and public figures, many of whom routinely attack President Trump in their own public statements, media interviews, and books.

That’s not all. Trump’s lawyers argue that his “modes of expression resonate powerfully with tens of millions of Americans.” And they attempt to establish Trump as some kind of freedom fighter who is being held back by the prosecution’s “hostility to President Trump’s viewpoint and his relentless criticism of the government.” They maintain that this hostility — the attempt to prosecute a defendant for dozens of alleged felonies — is “unconstitutional.”

The filing also reveals that Trump, if not successful in this attempt to contest the gag order, plans to appeal all the way to the Supreme Court, and of course he does — he tipped the balance of that court all by himself. What a tangled Trump web he has weaved/woven.
