Suits: LA has taken flight on NBC and Peacock, and let’s just say that this isn’t exactly the Summer Of Suits 2.0. The new show currently feels as though its from a different universe, and to put it less kindly, New York Timescalled the spin off “joyless” amid a Rotten Tomatoes critics score sitting at 39% and the audience score not faring much better. However, a helpful connecting thread from the flagship series is due to arrive soon.
That would be Harvey Specter, portrayed in the original series by Gabriel Macht, who is due to arrive in a three-episode arc. He will surface to help ease tensions that have developed at Black Lane Law, which is in danger of collapse due to the dissolving relationship between Ted Black (Stephen Amell) and Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt). As Macht previously teased, Harvey has been called in to help “an old friend in need,” and to that, Amell answered, “The Bat Signal does work!!” That magic is on the cusp of happening.
When Will Gabriel Macht Be Back As Harvey Specter In Suits LA?
March 16 at 9:00pm EST on NBC and next-day on Peacock for streaming. This episode is also running with another reference to the Caped Crusader with the title of “Batman Returns.” After last week’s revelations that emerged during a mob-involved case (that were unintended by Ted himself), “Batman” might need to draw on some gangster references from the comics.
You can watch a teaser of Macht’s franchise reemergence as Harvey below, albeit in what looks like a boozy flashback.
Crime-focused scripted TV shows, whether they are comedic (like Poker Face) or dramatic, will always find a place on streaming, but Peacock isn’t content to make that Natasha Lyonne series its only high-profile drop of the genre this year. Long Bright River is most decidedly on the serious side of the spectrum and will adapt a bestselling novel for NBCUniversal’s streaming service.
The series will adapt the same-named novel by Liz Moore and revolves around Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood where the author grew up, and Amanda Seyfried portrays a beat cop whose work hits too close to home. Sound familiar? That could describe a hefty percentage of crime dramas on streaming, but the show takes pains to avoid a cliché plot by highlighting a “moving love story between two sisters,” as described by executive producer Nikki Toscano. And it’s almost time for viewers to watch this go down.
How Many Episodes Are In Long Bright River?
Eight. The season will premiere in full via Peacock on Thursday, March 13, and reviews are generally positive with Variety calling the series a “stellar serial killer mystery” and The Daily Beast comparing the presentation to Mare of Easttown in terms of audience appeal. Y’all wanted another Mare of Easttown season, right? Well, here you go, and here’s the series synopsis:
Long Bright River is a suspense thriller series that tells the story of Mickey (Amanda Seyfried), a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history might be related to the case.
The series co-stars Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, John Doman, Callum Vinson, Britne Oldford, and more. Look for Long Bright River to hit the streaming charts soon.
Earlier this year, SZA made her official acting debut as the spacey Alyssa in the Issa Rae-produced, Keke Palmer-starring One Of Them Days. Prior to its release, she gushed that she wanted to take on more acting roles… and her latest as one of the most iconic supervillains ever is one heck of a next move.
SZA makes an appearance as Batman eternal frenemy/lover Catwoman in a new State Farm commercial that looks like it had the budget of a feature film — or at least, a prestige drama on HBO. The premise is simple; you wouldn’t want comic actor Jason Bateman to show up instead of Batman. In State Farm’s view, their competitors are the equivalent of the former in this analogy; State Farm is, of course, Batman — here to save the day in the event of a crisis.
Solana dons the iconic catsuit (sorry) of the legendary cat burglar, sneering at Bateman before kicking him over and making off with her coveted jewels. The ad also stars Kai Cenat, who gets taken hostage, and a who’s-who of Batman’s familiar rogues, from Riddler and Two-Face to the Clown Prince of Crime himself, the Joker. It’s a goofy way to sell insurance (if Jake from State Farm didn’t make periodic appearances, you’d think they were pitching a new reboot sans Hollywood’s favorite little freak, Robert Pattinson). But hey, it’s funny, and that’s got to count for something.
Some folks are trying to get a WNBA team in Detroit, and now one of the city’s most beloved musical exports, Eminem, is reportedly part of the effort. Per Sportico, Em has joined a bid group that includes owners of Detroit sports teams the Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions. The publication notes expansion talks are currently focused on bringing one new team to the league (on top of the aforementioned, already-confirmed three), but there’s some belief that instead of one, an additional three could be added.
This wouldn’t be Detroit’s first time with a WNBA team: The Detroit Shock debuted in 1998 as one of the league’s first expansion franchises, and after a move to Tulsa in 2010, the franchise moved to Dallas and become known as the Dallas Wings, its current team name.
The effort certainly has the support of NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who recently said, “I was here for all three Shock championships [in Detroit]. I’m sorry that the Shock ever left, and it’s great that Tom [Gores, Pistons owner] and this group want to bring this back. I know several people that are part of that group. […] That’s a first-class group led by Tom, and Detroit needs to get a WNBA team again.”
The Handmaid’s Tale has (rivetingly) been scaring the sh*t out of audiences since 2017 with frozen bank accounts, sealed-up mouths, a drowned Sydney Sweeney character, and other horrors that need not be repeated here because (if you’re reading this) you’ve seen them. Now, things are starting get even realer, but perhaps this final season will bring catharsis.
This bleak Elizabeth Moss-starring series has long since gone off-book, and the sixth season is poised to take viewers increasingly too-close-to-comfort with current events. Yet the series has retained a devoted audience while remaining one of the best Hulu originals in existence. The Handmaid’s Tale is so successful, in fact, that a sequel series, The Testaments, was recently greenlit to bring Margaret Atwood’s companion novel to your nearest streaming device. First, though, the final season of this current phase of Gilead must come to a close. Let’s look at what appears to be in store from the rebellion and what to expect from the sixth season.
Plot
Hulu/Nicola Daley
The build to the finale arrives with a key change behind the camera. Series creator Bruce Miller formally stepped down from his showrunning post, but there is no drama there. Miller’s not out of this game at all; he’s simply developing The Testaments (which, if the series adheres to the book, will focus heavily on Aunt Lydia’s perspective along with two other daughters in Gilead). Meanwhile, Miller’s duties have been taken over by seasoned The Handmaid’s Tale executive producers and writers Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang, who will guide this rebellion home.
Hulu hasn’t shied away from promising a reckoning to come with this “The Revolution Is Here” poster.
Hulu
Naturally, the streaming service has stayed close-clipped on specific plot developments, but a recent teaser trailer has similarly eschewed subtlety (with a voiceover from June) while promising to reappropriate the Handmaids’ trademark red clothing color into a symbol of rage.
Star Elisabeth Moss also heavily hinted that this season will bring a satisfying end for those who have undertaken this TV journey. “I think this whole season is absolutely for the fans,” Moss told Business Insider. “It’s definitely for our audience. It’s definitely for the people that have stuck with us for five seasons, and we’re kind of making this one for them.’”
Additionally, Moss has suggested that a great deal of emphasis this season will be on June’s relationship with Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), who no longer occupies the lofty position of Commander’s wife and has been knocked down several pegs, including when June informed her (in this pivotal scene) that “there is no one less worthy of redemption than you.” In the grand scheme of Gilead, Serena has had the tables turned on her, and as the series further progressed, the fifth season scene with Serena holding June at gunpoint did not go as anticipated. In many ways, culminating with the treatment of Serena when she became pregnant, these ladies found themselves in the same plight, however unlikely that might have seemed when the show began.
This recounting, of course, simplifies the events of the series, but from Moss’ comments to Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Screenrant), it looks entirely possible that, whether June and Serena are a united force or not (and you never know with Serena), they could be the key to “revolution” in Gilead. If this happens, it sure sounds like a gift to those who have stuck with the grueling The Handmaid’s Tale story:
“You’re making it for the people who love it. And, so, because of that, you are aware of, of course, what they respond to and what they don’t respond to.
“And I agree with them responding to June and Serena so wholeheartedly, and truly believe that it is their show. Like, I know it’s June’s story and it’s The Handmaid’s Tale but I really believe that it’s June and Serena’s story. And we’re very much going down that road in the final season. I’m the first person, even as a director, to be like, ‘Forget June, let’s focus on Serena for this episode.’ I just think that. Yvonne said it so well when she said, “There’s no Serena without June, and there’s no June without Serena.” And that’s so true. And so to me, the parallel stories, I love that part of the show so much. So I totally agree with the fans on this one.”
What else? A myriad of characters demand further scrutiny. That includes (and this might be a distracting mention) relations between Canada and American refugees, but more specifically, certain characters are likely in for grim conclusions, such as followup on Nick and Luke’s associations with June as Gilead’s Most Wanted. And on a very cryptic note, Bradley Whitford (that stinker who portrays Commander Lawrence) did tell Screenrant, “It’s a show I’m really proud of… But we solved the whole misogyny fascism thing. Our work was done.” Yup, that’s clear as mud.
The formal Hulu synopsis also awaits:
In the final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” June’s unyielding spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead. Luke and Moira join the resistance. Serena tries to reform Gilead while Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia reckon with what they have wrought, and Nick faces challenging tests of character. This final chapter of June’s journey highlights the importance of hope, courage, solidarity, and resilience in the pursuit of justice and freedom.
Did y’all notice that Moira mention? Samira Wiley previously promised on Instagram, “It’s gonna be fire, y’all. I promise! We talkin Season 1 vibes.” Never mind that Samira realized in this photo that she was accidentally posing next to a coat that “legit looks like a Handmaid’s costume.” Please do not read into that accident, but admittedly, this series could do worse than giving Moira a more substantial role after seemingly being backburnered by the writers. (A missed opportunity for sure, but perhaps change is really coming.)
Cast
Moss and Strahovski might be the marquee-name powerhouses in taking this beyond-the-book story home, but they won’t do it alone.
Also returning will be Bradley Whitford (Commander Lawrence), Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia), Samira Wiley (Moira), Madeline Brewer (Janine), O.T. Fagbenle (Luke), Max Minghella (Nick), Amanda Brugel (Rita), Sam Jaeger (Mark), Ever Carradine (Naomi), and Josh Charles.
It’s been five long years since Haim released the Album Of The Year-nominated Women In Music Pt. III. But on Wednesday (March 12), sisters Danielle, Alana, and Este Haim shared the first (Nicole Kidman meme-indebted) single from their still-unannounced new album. “Relationships,” produced by Rostam Batmanglij and Danielle, begins with old-school record scratches before settling into a familiar, sleek groove.
Haim didn’t drop any information about their fourth album, other than a brief tease in the press release: “Relationships” is “a contrast to the forthcoming album’s Rock sound.” The capitalization is theirs.
In an interview with i-d timed to the release of “Relationships,” Alana said the new album is the “the closest we’ve ever gotten to how we wanted to sound.” She continued, “Coming into this album, it feels like all three of us are really in tune with what we want, and we’re not f*cking afraid to say like — I’m sorry, now I’m two beers in — if I want to f*ck somebody, I’ll f*ck in the way that I want to. I’m not gonna feel judged by it. If I wanna go on dates, if I wanna do whatever… Do whatever feels good to you.”

Since Ice Spice first rose to fame with “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in 2022, the rapper has put in some work on her body, sporting a noticeably slimmer physique in recent times. Now, though, Ice is proudly proclaiming that she’s put a few pounds back on.
Yesterday (March 11), she took to social media to share a video teasing a new single. The video sees her strutting her stuff near the Eiffel Tower, and the song snippet begins, “She got thin, but she went and got thick again / Shawty got back on her oats.”
Ice Spice started discussing her weight loss last summer, saying, “I wish y’all never learned the word ‘Ozempic.’ That’s one thing I wish. Oh my god, like, what even is Ozempic? What the f*ck is that? Like, genuinely, what is that, bro? Like, you lazy [expletive] never heard of a gym? It’s called the gym, it’s called eating healthy, it’s called being on tour. Like, what the hell? Maybe if I was sitting home all day, it would be easier to stay big.”
Shortly after, she shared a video of herself working out in the gym and wrote, “we beatin them allegations,” in reference to accusations that she used Ozempic for weight loss.
Lucy Dacus has already shared a few tracks from her upcoming album Forever Is A Feeling: “Ankles,”“Limerence,” and “Best Guess.” On Wednesday (March 12), she previewed one more. In the fuzzed-out “Talk,” Dacus asks, “Why can’t we talk anymore? / We used to talk for hours / Do I make you nervous? Or bored? / Or did I drink you ’til the last drop?”
When asked by Dazed whether she was anxious to release a solo album following the Grammy-nominated success of Boygenius, Dacus replied, “So anxious. You’re hitting it on the head right now. So anxious for so many reasons. Going from doing everything with Julien [Baker] and Phoebe [Bridgers] to being by myself, I’ve been worried that it’s gonna feel lonely.”
She continued, “But in general, the perception that if I don’t win three Grammys, or if I don’t sell out Madison Square Garden, that somehow everything I do is lesser. But I have goals for this that are so different. The main goal was to make it and be proud of it, which I’ve already done. Now, I just want to share it in a way that gets it across. But this is also the first time I think people’s expectations of me have been higher than my own. So, yeah, it’s all the usual anxieties plus a whole new category. You think it would get easier, but I don’t feel that.”
You can listen to “Talk” above.

Well, it just got even deluxe-er: Today (March 12), Grande announced an accompanying short film that is set to drop the same day as the album, March 28. She shared a 15-second teaser on Instagram.
Grande previously said of the deluxe album, “It’s funny because I really thought that it was just a very concise body of work that it what it is, and I think, forever in my head, Eternal Sunshine is that album. But, with time, I’m like, ‘Oh, maybe there are some new ideas that could be included.’ But yeah, I’ve been writing a lot, and maybe there’s some more, but I would like to do a deluxe at some point.”

Earlier this year, Palmyra announced a new album, Restless. We’ve already heard first single “Shape I’m In,” now comes “Palm Readers.” The heart-wrenching and vulnerable track — the chorus goes: “I’m so damn lonely tonight” — finds the Virginia trio leaning into emo; fans of Bright Eyes and Modern Baseball will enjoy this one.
Here’s what lyricist Sasha Landon had to say about “Palm Readers”:
“I started writing the lyrics for ‘Palm Readers’ in the winter of 2022. I was fresh off of a big self-reckoning out-patient mental health program experience at a hospital in my hometown. For me, it’s about hard lessons, and about being so deep in the weeds that you can’t tell there are still other folks around you. I was learning about how to tend to myself, and about how consequential the way we talk to ourselves is for our mental health, and I think this song is trying to paint a picture of my internal dialogue at the time. I remember sitting with a friend one night that January and listening to her tell a story about a palm reader approaching her at a hole-in-the-wall dive bar; he looked at the lines on her hand and said something along the lines of, ‘you’ve lived a lot of lives, you must be tired… you’re almost there.’”
You can listen to “Palm Readers” above.
