What’s Popular On Streaming Now

Murderbot
Apple TV+

Every single week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

10. The EternautNetflix series

A second season is already in the works for this overnight phenomenon that involves apocalyptic snow, an alien invasion, and mind control. Next time, viewers can look forward to the series digging more fully into the sci-fi elements that were briefly introduced during the show’s debut. That tidbit comes from Netflix exec Francisco “Paco” Ramos, who promises a more “fully blown” treatment that will conclude this adaptation of the same-named 1957 comic by Hector G. Oesterheld.

9. HavocNetflix movie

Was the multi-year wait worth it for Tom Hardy’s starring role in The Raid franchise director Gareth Evans’ overall deal with Netflix? Yes, but news of a sequel hasn’t arrived yet despite the bonkers viewership numbers. This movie has just about everything that you’d want in a gritty cop drama, like an ambiguous ending that could take or leave a followup along with Forest Whitaker and Timothy Olyphant as a rare baddie, but damn, can the dude get away from lawman roles? Now that you ask, yep, he will soon be seen as a synth in FX and Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth (you’re welcome).

8. Poker FacePeacock series

Natasha Lyonne is doing Columbo-inspired things again while reeling in “a truly gonzo parade of guest stars” this season. They include John Mulaney, Alia Shawkat, Cynthia Erivo, Katie Holmes, Giancarlo Esposito, Haley Joel Osment, Melanie Lynskey, Taylor Schilling, Justin Theroux, and Kumail Nanjiani. If anybody had guessed five years ago that Lyonne would be collaborating with Rian Johnson in such an addictive way, would you have believed? Fortunately, we can thank Russian Doll (and Oatmeal the cat and maybe The Last Jedi) for bearing this mystery-solving fruit.

7. The RehearsalMax series

Nathan Fielder is somehow managing to top himself each week in terms of viral response. After taking on Capt. Sully Sullenberger, “birds,” and Evanescence, he’s heading to Washington, D.C. in an episode aptly titled “Washington.” Want a description? According to HBO Max, “Nathan heads to Washington.” Alright, fine.

6. The Four SeasonsNetflix series

Netflix recently announced that a second season was on the way for this Tina Fey-crafted series (starring Fey, Steve Carell, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, and more) that is happy to court The White Lotus and Nine Perfect Strangers viewers with more straight-up comedy vibes. No confirmation has surfaced on which stars will return, but considering that rather surprising death, at least one star will probably not return, but do not count out the possibility of flashbacks. Or even better, ghosts. Oooh, maybe these couples can go vacation at Colorado’s Stanley Hotel, which has long been credited with inspiring Stephen King’s The Shining. Just an idea.

5. NonnasNetflix movie

This Mother’s Day movie is so Italian American that it hurts. Vince Vaughn stars as a man who puts everything on the line to honor his dearly departed mother with an Italian restaurant. Naturally, the chefs are all Italian nonnas, and co-stars include Talia Shire, Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Brenda Vaccaro alongside Linda Cardellini and Joe Manganiello. This little movie is charming as heck and is (naturally) inspired by true events. Hey, everybody loves their nonna.

4. MurderbotApple TV+ series

Nobody can deny that Alexander Skarsgård is objectively sexy, but here, he’s portraying an unsexy robot (good luck with that) who would really prefer to bingewatch futuristic soap operas while being taxed with protecting and serving idiotic humans. So far, the fan response (from The Murderbot Diaries readers) is that the series nails the tone and spirit of the source material. And because David Dastmalchian is in every cool project these days (including Dexter: Resurrection), you know he is in this, too. Whew.

3. MobLandParamount Plus series

Tom Hardy has admitted to Esquire that his wildly embraced role as a fixer in this Guy Ritchie show wasn’t something that he was so sure about. Actually, he confessed to finding Ritchie too “macho” at first, but this impression yielded to Hardy realizing that Ritchie’s “a sort of punchiness and an energy” truly “had an edge to it. It had something.” He further explained that his Harry Da Souza character was the perfect counterpoint to his Venom trilogy. Whatever the case, audiences are digging it.

2. AndorDisney+ series

Well, the series finale has finished the Diego Luna-starring precursor to Rogue One, and Cassian has now achieved true rebel-hero evolution in the face of the imperial threat. As creator Tony Gilroy summed up of connecting the final dots before cinematic liftoff, “That sh*t laid down really clean,” and “presented itself without the incredible amount of effort that was anticipated.” Despite some controversy over the tenth chapter of this season, the twelfth and final installment has left both critics and audience members swooning over alleged perfection.

1. The Last Of Us – HBO series streaming on Max

Showrunner Craig Mazin previously suggested that the show wasn’t quite done with Pedro Pascal’s Joel, and the audience has learned that this wasn’t simply a tease. Prepare yourself for upcoming flashback scenes that will fill in some context on why Joel and Ellie’s relationship deteriorated to the degree that it did, and this week might actually deliver another bottle episode as Mazin and Neil Druckmann previously promised would surface. And nobody can say no to more Pedro Pascal, it’s simply not possible.

Lizzo Initially Thought Beyoncé’s Shoutout On The ‘Break My Soul’ Remix Was A Cruel Prank By Friends

Lizzo would argue she is Beyoncé’s biggest fan (and she sort of has proof). Back in 2023, Bey publicly declared her love for Lizzo among a few other women entertainers on “Break My Soul — The Queens Remix.”

Initially, thought Beyoncé’s name-drop was a cruel prank, or so she said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.

“I thought somebody was messing with me,” she said after revealing she learned about the moment via text. “And then, I was like, ‘OK, it’s in a song, maybe it’s quick.’ And then when I found out what it actually was, it was her paying homage to all of the women who inspire her, that really moved me.”

She later chimed: “And by the way, it’s not like she just used me cause she needed someone — she said Grace Jones twice. That means she really wanted to say my name. I’m very, very honored to this day. I love her very, very much. And, yeah, I’m still gooped and gagged.”

Lizzo then went to gush about attending the Renaissance World Tour live. “And she put me in the family,” she said.” I’m next to Kelly [Rowland], I’m next to Solange.”

As you can see Lizzo’s soul is far from broken.

Lorde is in the middle of a new musical era. But even dropping a new “What Was That,” announcing album Virgin and its supporting Ultrasound tour, Lorde as still stuck on her old releases.

So much so that Lorde’ 2013 track “Ribs,” off of Pure Heroine, even landed a spot on Billboard Hot 100 chart. Albeit No. 99, Lorde is impressed nonetheless. During a sit down with Rolling Stone, Lorde is proud of the song’s resurgence.

“It’s crazy that it works on people still,” she said. “It’s a mystery to me.”

Lorde then went on to draw a connection between her prior project (Pure Heroine) and forthcoming body of work (Virgin).

“I’m now seeing that Virgin has this connection to Pure Heroine,” she added. “And to this young, brave part of myself. I’m seeing that all these albums have connective tissue. Having ‘Ribs’ bubble up next to songs I’ve written when I was 28. I can’t wait to see what continues to bubble up when more of this album is out. What are the connections going to be?”

This isn’t the first pop throwback to land on the charts. Following a viral trend on TikTok, Lady Gaga’s 2011 tune “Hail Mary” bled onto the Billboard Hot 100.

Virgin is out 6/27 via Republic Records. Find more information here.

Snoop Dogg Feels Kendrick Lamar Is Justified In Calling Him Out On ‘Wacced Out Murals,’ Then Outlined Why

As Uproxx’s hip-hop editor Aaron Williams pointed out, GNX by Kendrick Lamar was a love letter to the West Coast.

Along the chart-topping project, Kendrick even carved out space to platform other California natives on the rise (including AzChike and Lefty Gunplay). But the body of work also featured a bold call out of West Coast legend Snoop Dogg.

While sitting down with Power 105.1 FM’s The Breakfast Club, Snoop was asked about Kendrick’s lines on “Wacced Out Murals.” Instead of issuing a fiery response of his own, Snoop Dogg calmly stated Kendrick Lamar’s bars were justified.

““For what? What’s there to talk about,” replied Snoop when asked by Charlamagne Tha God did he reach out after the song’s release.

“That’s my lil’ homie. He spoke his mind. He said what he said,” he added. “When I got wind of it, naturally, I reach out to nephew and let ’em know, ‘My bad, I didn’t mean that.’ And naturally, he responded the way he responded.”

While milder than Kendrick Lamar’s lines aimed to longtime foe Drake, on “Wacced Out Murals” he criticized Snoop for initially siding with Drake during their heated on wax feud. When Drake’s diss “Taylor Made Freestyle,” which featured AI-generated verses of Snoop and the late Tupac, was shared online Snoop reposted it on Instagram. The move rubbed not only Kendrick the wrong way but California natives.

“Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made,’ I prayed it was the edibles/ I couldn’t believe it, it was only right for me to let it go,” rapped Kendrick on the track.

Snoop has stated he did so without fall aware that it was a diss track about Kendrick. During an appearance on The Bootleg Kev podcast, Snoop claimed to have called Kendrick but was unable to reach him, so he left a message apologizing for the move.

That’s my nephew, man,” Snoop Dogg said. “He’s a rapper, man. He’s supposed to speak his mind and tell his truth. That’s the way he felt. You know what I’m saying? He has the right to say that. I’m his big homeboy, so I have to take what’s given to me from his perspective because he’s speaking truth. And the truth shouldn’t hurt you. It should make you better.”

The Best New Hip-Hop This Week

Amine
Getty Image

The Best New Hip-Hop This Week includes albums, videos, and songs from Aminé, Latto, and Rico Nasty.

Of this week’s releases, a sizable portion were diss tracks, exchanged between Ray Vaughn and Joey Badass. After Joey set the rap internet abuzz with his Red Bull Spiral Freestyle, Ray responded with “Hoe Era,” stepping in on behalf of his TDE family. That prompted Joey to come back with his own swaggering reply, “The Finals.” Who won this round? You can check out both songs below and decide for yourself.

But a whole bunch of releases came out; it looks like summer is going to be when hip-hop comes alive. Little Simz dropped a video for “Young,” the latest step on the journey to her new album, Lotus.

Elsewhere, Ric Wilson continued his mission to bring the funk back to rap with “Missin My Window,” the first single from America Runs On Disco.

And Latto got on her lovergirl tip with “Somebody.”

Here is the best of hip-hop this week ending May 16, 2025.

Albums/EPs/Mixtapes

Aminé — 13 Months Of Summer

Aminé

My personal pick for album of the week, Aminé’s third solo album carries over influences from his past work with Kaytranada, as well as his Ethiopian heritage. The result is another project that feels like sunshine, just as the clouds clear up for the next three months.

Chuckyy — I Live I Die I Live Again

Chuckyy

One thing I will always love about the youth; they wear their influences right on their sleeve. Chuckyy’s voice oozes Chicago drill, particularly the pioneers who paved the way for him. Meanwhile, you can tell the kid has good taste in movies; the apocalyptic chant from Mad Max: Fury Road suits the fatalistic themes in his latest.

Rico Nasty — Lethal

Rico Nasty

Were it not for Aminé, Rico would have had my pick for album of the week. Despite what she told me in our last conversation, it seems she hasn’t quite shaken off the need to create more of the rage rap that endeared her to alt girls (and guys) everywhere. With a new team, label, and zeal for screaming her head off, she makes some of her best, shoutiest work in a while.

R2R Moe — Road 2 Riches, Vol. 1

R2R Moe

New York drill has finally reached alllll the way Uptown. Harlem newcomer R2R Moe puts his neighorhood’s signature flashy spin on the ever evolving rap subgenre, crafting what he calls “Angelic Drill.” It’s defining characteristic is filtered, ghostly “oohs” and “aahs” — think Drake at his most emo — and heavy reverb and echo. It’s perfectly suited for introspective late-night drives.

Snoop Dogg — Iz It A Crime?

Snoop Dogg

The Doggfather was so inspired by Kendrick’s year-long victory lap, he hit the booth and returned with a brand-new album, released by surprise this Thursday. In addition to spotlighting his Death Row signees Jane Handcock and October London, Snoop taps rising stars Denaun, LaRussell, and Sexyy Red to help embellish this 21-track effort.

Tee Grizzley — Forever My Moment

Tee Grizzley

You’d think that at some point, Tee Grizzley would have to take a vacation. And yet, here he is, just six months removed from his last full-length effort, Post Traumatic, with another pack of motivational hustle anthems and Motor City street tales.

Singles/Videos

AZ Chike — “Game Time”

Los Angeles staple AZ Chike serves up an innovative spin on his usual post-G-Funk turn-up music, stripping down the GotDamnitDupri beat even more than normal. The energy of the track really builds, with Chike starting out at a near whisper and gaining momentum until he sounds like a train ready to jump the tracks — but he never does, maintaining his trademark laconic cool all the way through.

DRAM & Ellis Quinn — “Mars”

The perpetually cheesing Virginia part-time rapper, full-time crooner is back with a new joint project with a hometown homie, Leorpio (the title is inspired by OutKast’s Aquemini, combining the two artists’ zodiac signs). Focus track “Mars” is essentially a microcosm of the project in full; hazy, laid-back freestyles over downtempo beats that give the impression that the two rappers recorded together during a series of smoke sessions, enjoying each other’s company and not overthinking.

Kota The Friend — “Cozy Girls” Feat. Liana Bank$

Kota returns with an ode to the ladies who stay in the house until it’s time for vacations and celebrations. It’s got a really laid-back but upbeat vibe. Tracks like this often run the risk of making negative comparisons, but Kota’s far too adept a songwriter to even tiptoe that line. Liana Banks is an intriguing addition, offering some feminine perspective and humanizing the topic.

P-Lo — “No Hook”

A cool story: Bay Area rapper P-Lo was honored this week by his hometown, Pinole, CA, with a key to the city, a very cool honor for anyone, but especially for an indie artist who’s been able to work with his hometown NBA team and put on for underrepresented ethnic groups (he and several of his friends organized the Baryo Filipino Festival in LA’s Historic Filipinotown and last week, and it was the most fun this writer has had in like six months). “No Hook” is P-Lo’s well-deserved victory lap.

Sleep Hygiene Tips That Artists Swear By

FKA_twigs_wellness_beat(1024x450)
Getty Image / Merle Cooper

We all crave a good night’s sleep as part of our never-ending quest for wellness? We’ve also all endured the usual “mainstream” tips. Adopt a regular sleep time, eschew caffeine after dark, avoid stimulating activity and/or screen time ahead of the magic hour. Got it. Tried it. What’s next? Because in a world where no “one-size-fits-all” sleep tip exists, we all need fresh ideas and recs to cycle through until we find the right combination for our own busy, sleep deprived lives. That’s why we wanted to explore the social feeds and past interviews of some of our favorite artists, a group of people out there living as jet-lagged and chaotic a life as anyone (with a little help from their crews, of course) while also dealing with annoying sleep burdens.

From Lady Gaga (who falls prey to an “overactive mind” that can keep her awake for three days straight) to Rihanna, (who admits to relying upon “sleep pockets,” which she realizes aren’t ideal), these icons know a thing or two about the quest for rest. So let’s explore some of the music industry’s favorite tricks and methods.

Embrace Your Own Personal Ritual

FKA Twigs is no stranger to unforeseen tour stressors, but even while away from home, the Eusexua singer follows a go-to insomnia prevention plan with a bedtime ritual. “I’ve always loved dressing for bed. [Having] a ‘look’ on even if I’m going to sleep, it makes me feel good.” she enthused while also recommending candles and incense and spending “quiet time to reflect on my day.” Well, crafting a “look” for bed might be too elaborate for most, but don’t let that intimidate you from considering the approach. Whether that means dedicating full-on sleep “outfits” or simply keeping a stash of fuzzy socks, that’s up to the individual. The same goes for scents that soothe, although Twigs isn’t wrong about incense setting the mood for relaxation.

Turn The Smallest Indulgences Into Self-Care

Ice Spice has made headlines for her recent fitness kick, but when it comes to sleep hygiene, a simple cup of tea is a cornerstone of her approach. Following a performance, the rapper turns to calming tea like chamomile to wind down and start looking towards restful nours. Ariana Grande also favors the simplicity camp and considers wellness to be “an important investment.” To enter a restful state of mind, she meditates with essential oils like lavender, which she believes “immediately triggers calmness.” (As an aside, add a little lemongrass oil into that equation, and you might never want to leave bed.) Additionally, Kelly Clarkson keeps a bedside journal to record any lyrical ideas as she drifts off while preserving those ideas for another day.

Or Get Ultra-Technical With It

Harry Styles happens to be a fan of a regimented wellness routine, especially while globe-trotting away from Harry’s House. As such, he favors 10 hours of shut-eye and vitamin-loaded IVs, and he maintains an astounding list of dietary restrictions to keep his energy and voice in tip-top shape. Additionally, he loads up his hotel room with multiple humidifiers that “apparently made it look like he was stepping out of a steam room when he opened his hotel-room door.” That might be overkill, sure, but Styles favors that last practice for hydration purposes including for his vocal cords (he likely took a cue from Mariah Carey). And for those who also find comfort in structure, perhaps one of Harry’s tips will inspire their own ultra-supportive routine.

Lights Out, No Distractions?

Sabrina Carpenter sits on one end of this spectrum by eschewing distractions before bedtime, including television. In fact, as the “Espresso” crooner declared, “I can’t remember the last time I watched a TV show.” During her bedtime hour, which differs each day, she’s generally so spent that she prefers to pass out “as quickly as I can.” Whereas Olivia Rodrigo grants herself leeway on the screen time topic. The Vampire singer admits to sleeping “so much on tour,” sometimes up to 13 hours daily, but also, “I’ve been watching all of my comfort shows.” So pick your poison, and for Rodrigo, that means “watching Sex and the City every day,” and for current shows, might we suggest Ted Lasso or Emily In Paris for the same frivolous, feel-good effect?

When All Else Fails, Look For That Magic Bullet

CBD is high on the list of aids for Travis Barker, who developed his own Wellness Sleep Tincture, a vegan-based blend that contains melatonin to help regulate his sleep cycle. Likewise, Beyoncé espoused the strengths of CBD “for restless nights” and the “agitation that comes from not being able to fall asleep” along with the “healing properties” of honey. Then there’s Ed Sheeran, who has zero products to recommend, and as a self-labelled ex-bad boy, Sheeran’s bullet involves simply rising “at 5:30 every morning” by “not being a f*cking maniac with drinking, drugs, or just smoking” at night. And if it works? Good on him, but “Don’t” be afraid to seek out your own magic bullet.

‘Gen V’ Season 2: Everything To Know About Bridging The Gap Before ‘The Boys’ Finale, Including Who Won’t Return (May 2025 Update)

gen-v-the-boys-lg
Prime Video/Amazon

The Boys will end with the upcoming fifth season, but the franchise has plenty of other irons in the fire. Vought Rising will follow misdeeds of the earliest Supes, including Stormfront and Soldier Boy, and a Mexico spin off remains theoretically possible, but much sooner, fledgling Supes will be going back to campus. Let’s dive into what The Boys universe architect Eric Kripke and the gang have in store for the second Gen V season.

Cast

Chance Perdomo Gen V
Brooke Palmer/Amazon Prime Video

To address the most somber matter first, Chance Perdomo, who passed away on the planned eve of filming, will be honored in this season as part of the plot (described in a below section). Additionally, Patrick Schwarzenegger will not return as the late Golden Boy, whose flashbacks appear to be complete. As Patrick did tell Screenrant, however, his schedule had prevented him from making a potential return, and as he understands the situation, the door is not shut for Golden Boy to surface during a third season or beyond.

Can we expect a cameo or two from The Boys to surface? Yup. As reported by Total Film, Chace Crawford will cameo as Deep after he killed his octopus lover in The Boys. And the possibility remains open that Homelander could again touch down to shake everybody’s little world up.

Additionally, new Gen V cast includes Sean Patrick Thomas (as Polarity) as well as Julia Knope, Keeya King, Tait Fletcher, Stephen Kalyn, Wyatt Dorion, Stacey McGunnigle, and Georgie Murphy in undescribed roles.

Gen V
Amazon

Confirmed returning cast members will include Jaz Sinclair (as Marie), Lizze Broadway (as Emma/Cricket), and London Thor and Derek Luh (both as Jordan). Likewise, Maddie Phillips (Cate) and Asa Germann (Sam) will be back as the Guardians of Godolkin from their visit to The Boys. Alongside the new dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater), they’ll form a welcoming committee. Yikes.

Plot

As referenced above, Gen V will address Chance Perdomo’s death through passing of his character, the metal-manipulating Andre Anderson, within the show itself. His father, Polarity (portrayed by Sean Patrick Thomas), will appear as part of the tribute.

Otherwise, plot details remain mysterious, but Eric Kripke has confirmed that the season is fully edited with “music, sound & VFX now.” He then promised, “I think this season is better than S1 & will be worth the wait.” Also, this Gen V season begins its story a few days after the events of the fourth The Boys season finale. We can also guess that although Vought Rising takes place in the distant past, we’ll probably see some nods toward the early days of Soldier Boy (who already appeared once as Cate’s fantasy object) and Stormfront.

Elsewhere, Kripke and showrunner Michelle Fazekas dropped hints to Deadline on how the outrage factor will stay strong, and so will the story:

FAZEKAS: As Eric says, it comes from the story and the characters. We never start with how outrageous we can be, we ground it in what are the characters want to do, what the characters want to feel. What do they want? For Season 2, I do have one idea, but it’s more of a scene that than something outrageous.

KRIPKE: (laughs) Some may say that our copious amounts of semen are the glaze on top of a cake that we very carefully bake.

FAZEKAS: Yes!

In that same interview, Kripke clarified that Cate is “not crazy or just straight up evil or wrong. She was f*cked over by humans consistently, so she’s somewhat been broken. She’s crossed the line and you’re hurting people and stuff, but on one level, I don’t even fault her. She got broken by this system … at least in this season. She’s past the point of no return.”

Yet in San Diego Comic-Con footage observed by Screenrant, it sounds like Cate had a change of heart and is shown “having remorse for her actions, while Sam continues to be a villain.” Hmm.

Release Date

Gen V will return in 2025 with no window specified, yet.

Trailer

Supposedly, yeah, a trailer is coming soon. Until that happens, Homelander is pleased to relive the most recent season finale mayhem for you.

Will There Be A ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Season 5?

power-raising-kanan-lg
Starz

Powerhouse producer 50 Cent‘s TV offerings appear to know no bounds or shortages of beefs, but the current drama on Power Book III: Raising Kanan is most decidedly of the onscreen variety. This week’s fourth season finale strongly suggested that Kanan killed his own mother, Raq, although Patina Miller’s postmortem interviews have not confirmed that her queenpin bit the dust, and that cliffhanger will linger until another season surfaces, so naturally, you’ll want to know whether that’s happening.

Will There Be A Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5?

Yes. Variety is reporting that the fifth season will also be the series’ last.

Furthermore, Shameik Moore (who debuted in the fourth season finale) will be joining the series as regular to portray the nearly mythical Branford “Breeze” Frady. Showrunner Sascha Penn told Hollywood Reporter that she anticipates an “incredibly polarizing” further introduction to Breeze “simply because everyone has it in their own heads of who this character is and what he looks like.” However, “His story is a story that I felt we needed to tell. And not just for the fanbase, but also because he is a seminal character as it relates to Kanan, Ghost and Tommy.”

Get ready for that controversy, but there’s no release date yet to tell us the “when,” although the show will continue (after following up on Raq’s ultimate fate) to push Kanan further down the road to his monstrous Power status.
