The View is full of interesting takes. Hosts Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Megan McCain, Ana Navarro, and more can often find themselves having different stances on current cultural events. Goldberg is the latest to make headlines with questionable comments.

The 67-year-old actress said while discussing the Netflix series Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me that American Idol is the downfall of society, according to People. “You have Basketball Wives, you have the Housewives Of whatever, all the Bravo shows,” she said, “giving you the impression that you’re doing something wrong because you’re living your life.”

“People watch these shows because they make them feel better,” she continued. “People like to be judgy.”

“I think that we, as a society, love to watch stuff to judge folks. I’ve always thought that the beginning of the downfall of society was with, um, what’s the name of that show?” she added, then said, “American Idol?”

Brushing aside the fact that American Idol airs on ABC (the same network as The View), she explained, “Once we gave people the ability to judge other people, I think we ran amok with it, and it’s gone out of control. They invited the public to decide who that person was and I feel once we did that, it began us in a cycle which we have not [gotten out of].”

This week’s episode begins with Ian telling Steven about his recent experience seeing The Cure in concert. Turns out they are playing a lot of new songs live, and they sound a lot like Disintegration. Steven reveals that Jason Isbell said something similar about his experience seeing The Cure in New Orleans. All of this makes Steven excited about seeing The Cure next month.

Next, they address the most hyped release in the indie world of late, The Sex EP by NYC throwback dance-punk act The Dare. A lot of people are talking about this four-song release, and a lot of that talk is negative. But for Steven, what’s interesting is that a collection of dumb tunes about sex and drugs is being treated as a novelty, when “dumb songs about sex and drugs” sum up a lot of popular music from the past 50 years, from rock to rap to country to basically every other genre. Is there a reaction brewing to the Trump/Covid era of music?

From there, Steven and Ian have a wider conversation about indie sleaze and whether it’s a real phenomenon or a trumped-up fantasy by shadowy “Brooklyn-based trend forecasters.” Speaking of fantasies, the guys also addressed reunion rumors surrounding two very different bands: Oasis and Modern Baseball.

In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about two electronic acts, Blawan and Overmono, while Steven brings up the catchy French indie pop En Attendant Ana.

In recent years, Britney Spears hasn’t had many nice things to say about her mother, Lynne Spears. “I pray you both burn in hell,” she wrote in 2022 of her parents. After Lynne offered an apology shortly after, Britney wrote, “Mom take your apology and go f*ck yourself !!!” Now, though, it appears things are moving in a more positive direction, as Britney and Lynne apparently just enjoyed a loving and productive visit with each other.

Sharing a photo of herself as a kid on Instagram yesterday (May 25), Spears wrote, “My sweet mama showed up at my door step yesterday after 3 years … it’s been such a long time … with family there’s always things that need to be worked out … but time heals all wounds !!! And after being able to communicate what I’ve held in for an extremely long time, I feel so blessed we were able to try to make things RIGHT !!! I love [hearts emoji] you so much !!! Psss… I’m so blessed we can have coffee together after 14 years !!! Let’s go shopping afterwards !!!”

TMZ reported about the visit before Britney’s post, saying that the two got together in person for the “first time in years.” Lynne apparently flew from Louisiana to Britney’s home in Los Angeles for the meet-up, and they, with Sam Asghari also present, talked for “around 30 minutes.” TMZ also noted the two have “been texting recently and Lynne knew the path was clear enough to make the trek from Louisiana to LA.”

It appears Taylor Swift (or at least somebody in her circle) keeps track of the things people say about her online. Back in October, when Taylor Swift released her album Midnights, it featured “Snow On The Beach,” a collaboration with Lana Del Rey. Fans were underwhelmed, though, when they heard the song and realized Del Rey’s vocal contributions were relatively minimal. Even Del Rey herself wasn’t satisfied, later writing, “I would’ve sung the entire second verse if I had known, I was the only feature buttttt my production skills were on point and Chuck’s photo skills are [fire emoji].”

Swift eventually set out to make things right. She announced Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) a couple days ago and noted, “You asked for it, we listened: Lana and I went back into the studio specifically to record more Lana on Snow on the Beach. Love u Lana.”

Well, the expanded edition is here now, and indeed, there’s more Lana Del Rey; The re-recorded song is actually called “Snow On The Beach (Feat. More Lana Del Rey).” This time around, Del Rey gets her own verse and people are pretty happy about it, as Del Rey is a trending topic on Twitter this morning.

(WARNING: Spoilers (or maybe not?) for this week’s Power Book II: Ghost episode will be found below.)

It took ten weeks, shocking deaths, turns in relationships, and countless drug deals, but season three of Power Book II: Ghost has come to a close. The finale aired after a penultimate episode that followed the aftermath of Cooper Saxe’s death in episode eight. After a tip to the feds from Rashad Tate, Weston Holdings was raided for their alleged Ponzi scheme that left Brayden, Tariq, Kiki, and the rest of the staff in trouble as Lucas prepared to tell the police everything he knew about the Ponzi scheme and then some. Luckily for them, Brayden (quite literally) pushed Lucas to his demise, saving them from legal trouble. We also have Effie, who is locked up on her attempted murder charge for trying to kill Lauren, the Tejada children, who discovered that Monet was the one who had Lorenzo killed, and Tommy Egan, who made a shocking return to try and kill Tasha in her witness protection home. For that last, Tommy’s mission was somewhat thwarted by the arrival of Tariq, and that’s where we left off in episode nine.

In the season three finale of Power Book II: Ghost, things begin with Tariq waking up unsure of his mother’s whereabouts. He later finds out that she ran away after the incident with Tariq and Tommy, but not before squashing her beef with Tommy. Through all this, Tariq believes that Monet sent Tommy after his mother by giving up Tasha’s location to Tommy. However, it was really Diana who did that in a grand scheme to take down Monet. She put together the plan, with help from Dru, as they saw it to be their only opportunity to free themselves from Monet’s rule. That plan also had Tariq going down as collateral, but it all went sideways when Tasha showed up in the heat of the moment. This is the spark for an all out war between Tariq and the Tejadas. Brayden sticks beside Tariq, and Effie, who gets out of prison in this episode, picks the Tejadas and Noma as her partners.

Here are some of the biggest takeaways that we have after season three’s final episode, “Divided We Stand”:

Tariq & Brayden Aren’t Ready For War With The Tejadas

Nothing went according to plan in the final minutes of the Power Book II: Ghost season three finale. In the end, we watch a war come to life with Tariq and Brayden set up to bat against the Tejadas, Noma, and Effie. Tariq and Brayden are outnumbered for this war, which puts them at a disadvantage. Then you add that the Tejadas and Effie know everything about him and that they’re working with Noma, and it’s clear that this is lining up to be Tariq and Brayden’s toughest battle yet. We’ve known Tariq to be someone who can get himself out of any jam, but it’s going to be much harder to do that this time. Tariq tried to wiggle out of it by mentioning Noma’s daughter, but that fell as flat as his trust fund dreams. Tariq and Brayden will need a lot of time, a whole lot of luck, and some more help from the man upstairs to get themselves out of this jam because man, it is a thick one.

Tommy Has Wisdom From The Past, Tariq Should Get Some Too

Tariq proves to be your know-it-all young adult in this season three finale. During conversations with Tommy and Tasha, he claims to have learned all the lessons necessary from his father Ghost’s mistakes, but as Tasha reminds him, Ghost was not dumb. Still, it’s safe to say that Ghost had his slip-ups, and as Tommy explains, it came from his attempt to have a life in the business world and the drug game at the same time. Tommy tells Tariq that he’s doing the same thing with school and the drug game while warning him to pick a side as his focus must be 100% if a way with the Tejadas is what he wants. Tariq was around to see his father’s downfall, and while he’s smart enough to know what they were and avoid them in his journey, his confidence and cockiness make him forget that. Ahead of this war, Tariq needs to not only acknowledge the advice and mistakes from his elders, both dead and alive, and put them into action.

Cooper Saxe’s Death Only Caused More Problems

Man, I thought Cooper Saxe’s death would mean that the former St. Patrick tormentor would no longer effect the show, but boy was I wrong. Before his death, Saxe had numerous letters made for people in his life, from Jenny Sullivan to Monet to other detectives. One of those letters had the address to Tasha’s witness protection home, and one way or another, the letter fell into the Tejadas’ possession. It was later used as bait to motivate Tariq to join Diana’s plan to “kill” Monet. Diana delivered that letter to Tommy’s mother and instructed her to give it to Tommy, and when he received it, he drove to the address where he found Tasha, but luckily for her, Tariq was already there. Another one of Saxe’s letters was given to a detective with a flash drive filled with yet-to-be-revealed contents, but we’re sure it’ll become an issue for Tariq and company in season four.

Diana Is Not To Be Underestimated Ever Again

Diana hasn’t really gotten her respect throughout Power Book II: Ghost, but after this season three finale, she’s due for some. Diana helped create a plan to free the Tejada family from Monet and Tariq. She used her charm to get Tariq right where she wanted and sold him out to Noma and Cane without a blink of an eye when things didn’t go according to her plan. When Diana’s back was against the wall, she did what she needed to and stood up for herself in the process. She sold drugs for her dad at Stansfield when he asked to her to, she exposed Salim and put him at a disadvantage when he tried to take her down, and she did what she needed to (possibly) kill her mother and remove her from her life. She may not be strong like her brothers or an authentic street dealer like Effie or Tariq, but there’s room in this game for Diana, and she’s making great use of it.

Lover No Longer Exists In Power Book II: Ghost

At the conclusion of Power Book II: Ghost season three, love is a thing of the past. The season started and continued with Tariq in a relationship with Effie, Monet with Lorenzo, Salim with Diana, Brayden with Kiki, and Dru with Gordo. Now, all of that is gone. Lorenzo and Gordo are dead, Effie and Tariq broke up and now she’s enjoying her time with Cane, Salim hasn’t been seen in a few episodes are Diana told him off, and Kiki is heading home to clear her head after the Ponzhi scheme mess. So, just like that, all the love is gone, and while we can be sure that it’ll find new ways to exist in season four, its absence at the moment really speaks to how foundations, structures, and relationships falling apart was the theme of this season of Power Book II: Ghost. People were pushed to their limits and the results of that brought damage to one of the more normal things in their life: love. Now, a group that was once united (Tariq, Effie, Brayden, and the Tejadas), is now split in ways that we may not have imagined. With that, say goodbye to the love and season three of Power Book II: Ghost as well.

Sexyy Red is quickly showing herself to be a promising newcomer. Over the past few months, she’s collaborated with the likes of Summer Walker, NLE Choppa, and Kali. Plus, she’s also gone viral some singles of her own, including “Pound Town.”

While the lyrics “I’m out of town, thuggin’ with my rounds / My coochie pink, my booty-hole brown” might make someone clutch their pearls, the remix of the Tay Keith-produced track takes things to another level.

On the remix, titled “Pound Town 2,” Red and Keith enlist Nicki Minaj, who gives the song even more x-rated flair.

“I’ma flip like a hundred bricks, get back on my licks / I’m a b*tch, I want fish and grits, throwin’ hissy fits / I ain’t talkin’ about chicken when I jerk it with my t*ts / I be twerkin’ on that d*ck, plus, I’m slurpin’ every drip,” she raps.

In a letter to the Barbz sent by Minaj via email, she shared how she and Red linked up for this spicy remix.

“I met with Sexyy Red & found her to be so down to earth and sweet,” Minaj said. “I couldn’t hear myself on this song at first but once I let go & decided to just have fun with a bad b!ch, I ended up LOVING how it came out!”

Yeat has shared a glitzy new collaboration with Young Thug. On their flashy, lo-fi hip-hop track, Yeat and Thug show off their riches, putting their opulence on display by way of watches and flashy jewelry.

While Yeat is more reserved and tends to keep to himself, his chemistry with Thug on the braggadocious track is undeniable. On the song’s chorus, the pair invite spectators to “look at my wrist,” which is presumably studded in luxury.

“Pockets on lettuce and radish and blue cheese, no ranch / You want the Patek? You gotta run it up / Hand me my bag, she wanna hold the Hannah Montana / Only no tag, they wonder where Miley’s at,” raps Thug on one of the song’s verses.

In an interview with Complex, Yeat revealed that Thug, along with Future, is one of his favorite rappers of all time. While the two maintain good energy on this collaboration, Yeat noted that he doesn’t care too much to collaborate with other artists.

“I’m not really big on features,” he said. “I kind of like people just hearing me. I don’t really need other people on my music. Maybe a couple features, but I don’t like having 20 features on an album. That sh*t’s kind of weird.

Singer-turned-actor-turned-singer-again Dominic Fike is onto a new chapter. Tonight (May 26) Fike has shared the latest track from his upcoming sophomore album, Sunburn. On the precious “Ant Pile,” Fike took us back to his days on the playground, where he recalls crushing on one of his classmates.

“First grade / Somebody tied you to an ant pile / And that wasn’t even the worst day / Back then you knew I always liked you,” Fike sings, over electrifying guitar riffs.

He then chronicles their love up to high school, where they started to take their relationship to higher levels, from dates, to hook-ups, to breakdowns, and painful dissolutions.

“Ninth grade / I picked you up before the first date / You were allergic to your entrée / You couldn’t do pasta / The movie was awful,” he sings on the second verse.

“Ant Pile” is one of Fike‘s more romantic songs, and the lyrics play out vividly, like the soundtrack to a coming-of-age movie. Sunburn is said to be an autobiographical album inspired by his childhood in Florida. The bulk of the album was written, produced, and recorded in his home state.

Taylor Swift and Ice Spice have teamed up for the official remix to “Karma.” On the updated Midnights fan-favorite, Ice adds a fiery flair to the shimmering pop track.

Swift’s first verse remains the same as the original verse, but at the second, Ice pops in reminding us why the universe has rewarded her.

“You ain’t gotta worry, karma never gets lazy / So I keep my head up / My bread up / I won’t let up / Promise that you’ll never endeavor with none lesser” she raps on her verse, celebrating another win, as she adds another high-caliber collab to her resume.

Because after all, how can she lose if she’s already chose?

The remix to “Karma” comes as part of a special edition of Midnights called Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition), which has also dropped tonight. In addition to this remix, Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) also contains “Hits Different,” a song that was previously only available on the Target edition of Midnights, as well as a new version of “Snow On The Beach” containing more vocals from Lana Del Rey.

The conversation about NBA officiating has gotten a bit out of control of late, as complaints about calls and non-calls has seemed to become a dominant topic every single night. For the most part, fans on Twitter are just screaming into the void (or the mentions of the NBA Officials or NBA main account with no reply), but there is one account that was out there standing ready to defend the honor of the officials — or, at least, one official.

NBA Twitter was enthralled on Thursday by the saga of @CuttliffBlair, a since-deleted Twitter account with no followers that only followed the NBA, NBA Officials, NBA Refs, Ref Analytics, and the George Mason women’s basketball team (which, we’ll get to in a minute). The account served one purpose: defending referee Eric Lewis in the mentions of seemingly anyone that would tweet about him in a negative way — particularly over the Western Conference Finals, where he drew the ire of some Lakers fans.

It certainly fits the profile of a burner account and given it was deleted after all of this went viral, it’s hard to imagine it being anything other than Lewis’ account — it also was apparently registered to Lewis’ AOL email. As for the accounts it followed, the various NBA ones make total sense, but the George Mason women’s team account seemed odd, until you learn his wife coaches there.

That makes it hard to imagine how this isn’t an account he manned, and while it’s totally understandable why you’d want to defend yourself when facing constant accusations of either being terrible at your job or being crooked as a referee, it’s also just not something you should bother with if you’re an NBA ref. Burner accounts seem like a good idea at the time, but if you only use the account to defend yourself, eventually it catches someone’s eye — especially because, as an NBA referee, no random people are going to be out there defending your honor that vigorously. This isn’t as big a deal as the Brian Colangelo burner account situation, but it’s still wild enough to make him one of the main characters on NBA Twitter right now.

Refereeing is a very difficult and thankless job, with the discourse about it as toxic as ever. Still, probably best to log off and do your best to ignore Twitter, because if you get found out like this, it’s only going to make it worse.
