Brett Goldstein Has A Wildly Outside-The-Box Idea For Where ‘Ted Lasso’ Can Go In A Proposed Season 4

Ted Lasso is supposed to end with its forthcoming third season, which premieres on March 15. But what if it didn’t? What if Jason Sudeikis’ semi-cockeyed optimist left AFC Richmond but came back in a completely outside-the-box way? What if, as co-star Brett Goldstein recently suggested, he died but didn’t disappear?

“Season 3 ends with the death of some major characters,” the show’s resident assistant coach Roy Kent and real life Muppet fanatic said in a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter (as caught by /Film). “I keep saying– I have said to Jason I keep saying– I have said to Jason, season 4 could be ‘Ghost Lasso,’ where we carry on but Ted Lasso is now haunting the locker rooms and trying to inspire the players from the other side.”

Goldstein’s joking (probably), but it’s not a bad idea. Shows never end these days, but having Ted die and come back as a friendly ghost is fitting with the feel-good show, which is able to stay positive while acknowledging and exploring the darker sides of life. Ted would definitely be the kind of spirit who’s upbeat even in death.

You can watch Sudeikis, Goldstein, and other Ted Lasso cast members talk about the show in the video below. Season 3 begins on March 15 on Apple TV+.

Mike Pence Finally, Finally, Finally Trashed Trump Over Jan. 6, Saying His ‘Reckless Words Endangered My Family’

For over two years, Mike Pence has been a mensch about almost getting killed during the Jan. 6 riot. He’s been diplomatic, to a fault, about the person who endangered his life, former president Donald Trump. No more. The former veep is running for president, and at a dinner on Saturday night, the gloves finally, finally, finally came off.

At the annual Gridiron Club Dinner in DC, Pence knocked both Trump and Tucker Carlson, who last week aired segments attempting to whitewash the Capitol attack, painting its perpetrators — some of whom wanted to hang Pence, which Trump later defended — as mere “sightseers.” Pence told the crowd it was a “tragic day,” then slammed Trump for almost getting him killed.

“President Trump was wrong,” Pence told the crowd. “I had no right to overturn the election and his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”

He also tacitly torched Tucker. “Tourists don’t injure 140 police officers by sightseeing,” said Pence. “Tourists don’t break down doors to get to the Speaker of the House or voice threats against public officials.”

Pence added, “Make no mistake about it, what happened that day was a disgrace, and it mocks decency to portray it in any other way.”

He even did the unthinkable among today’s GOP: He praised the media. “The American people have a right to know what took place at the Capitol on January 6, and I expect members of the fourth estate to continue to do their job,” he said. “We were able to stay at our post, in part, because you stayed at your post. The American people know what happened that day because you never stopped reporting.”

What’s more, the famously stolid Pence actually made some jokes, and about his former boss. “I think [Trump] and I are on very good terms,” he cracked. “I mean, he’s never called me a low-energy moron. Not yet.”
He added, “Honestly, I learned a lot working beside Donald Trump, like about subpoenas for instance.”

Anyway, good for Mike Pence, finally coming out against the guy who revved up his violent supporters to string him up on a noose, which was erected outside the Capitol. And to think it only take him over two years to do so.

‘SNL’ Weekend Update Torched Tucker Carlson For Pretending The Jan. 6 Riot Was ‘Peaceful’

Last week Tucker Carlson attempted to whitewash Jan. 6. Newish Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy thought it was the right thing to bequeath the incendiary Fox News host with over 40,000 hours of footage of the Capitol riot. Sure enough, he cherry-picked the most boring footage, claiming the insurrectionists who wanted to overturn democracy were mere “sightseers” — a claim even Republicans dragged. Still, it may have convinced his most gullible followers, but no one else was snookered, not the least the anchors of SNL Weekend Update.

Colin Jost was first. “Tucker Carlson, seen here laughing at a dog locked in a hot car, released security footage from the January 6th attacks with the violence edited out and said it proves it was a peaceful gathering,” he said over an image of Carlson laughing hysterically. “Which is like editing all the sex out of a porn video and saying ‘it’s a short film about being a stepmom.’”

Then came Michael Che., who took on the leaked texts that show Tucker secretly trashing Donald Trump. “New documents from the Dominion lawsuit revealed texts from Tucker Carlson in which he says he hates Donald Trump passionately and can’t wait until he’s able to ignore him,” he said. “That must suck to go on TV and put on a smile and make friends with some psychotic bigot just because it’s ‘good for the show!’ Anyway, back to you, Colin.”

George Santos Crashed The Oscars Pretending To Be Tom Cruise In The ‘SNL’ Cold Open

The Oscars are set to pop off Sunday night with their first show since, well, you know. The awards show hasn’t exactly been relevant for ages, but after last year’s shocking incident, they suddenly are. Will someone else get slapped? Probably not, especially given that they now have a “crisis team.” But they’re still big enough a deal that they got prime real estate on SNL, which bestowed upon them the Cold Open.

The opening sketch finds Marcello Hernandez and Heidi Gardner as Access Hollywood hosts Mario Lopez and “Maria Menounos or Kit Hoover.” They talk to a number of people, including new security head, the “notoriously calm and sane” Mike Tyson (Kenan Thompson).

“This year, all the nominees have been given tasers, all the seat fillers have been given guns and Jimmy Kimmel has been given a flamethrower,” said Thompson’s Tyson. He said that Will Smith (who’s not allowed back for some time) has been awarded an Apple AirTag, so “we know exactly where he’ll be at all times — unless, of course, he changed his pants and then he could be anywhere.”

There are also appearances from nominee Jamie Lee Curtis (Chloe Fineman), Michelle Williams’ Jewish acting coach (Sarah Sherman), and Bowen Yang as George Santos posing as Tom Cruise. When told that “you’re not fooling anyone,” Yang’s Santos replied, “Except I did, and now I’m in Congress. Excuse me, I have to go be everyone, everywhere all at once.”

You can watch the sketch in the video above.

What’s Popular On Streaming Now

Every single week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

TIE: 10. Triangle Of Sadness (Neon film streaming on Hulu and elsewhere)

If you’re missing The Menu and The White Lotus already, this film is receiving a reignited burst of streaming popularity during the final crescendo of awards season. This film is arguably even more scathing and brutal than the HBO show, however, as the idle rich are put on blast when nature strikes a cruise ship and all hopes for avoiding — sit down — explosive diarrhea are off the table. Hey man, it happens, although I wouldn’t have minded if it also happened to Greg and Cameron on The White Lotus, too.

TIE: 10. Daisy Jones & The Six (Amazon series)

Although Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough, plays the lead singer of a Fleetwood Mac-like band in this series, she admittedly pulled a fast one by totally lying about her vocal abilities. Things still worked out for her and the show, given that she scored the role, and Sam Claflin also picks up a significant role to help take you away from your living room and behind the scenes on an honest-to-god rock ‘n’ roll adventure. This is nice counter programming to what’s currently dominating in the streaming realm, and the show drops weekly, so you can make it a periodic fix.

9. MH370 (Netflix documentary)

This controversial film (obviously about Malaysia Airlines Flight 370) is certainly reminding viewers that the “documentary” label doesn’t even come close to guaranteeing basis in fact. Social media has been more than slightly riled up about this project essentially being a collection of conspiracy theories about the still-unsolved mystery of why this plane disappeared without a trace. In other words, people are clicking, but thankfully, they’re not believing everything they see.

8. Bel-Air (Peacock series)

This dramatic take on the original 1990s sitcom is still going strong, proving (like Perry Mason, also on this list) that a so-called “gritty” reboot can work out, after all. This series is standing on its own these days and moving further away from treading its predecessor’s territory (for example, Will and Uncle Phil don’t trust each other), and star Jabari Banks appears to have quite a career in his future, no matter where this show eventually goes.

7. The Whale (A24 film streaming on VOD and Amazon)

Brendan Fraser is up for a Best Actor Oscar, although our own Josh Kurp believes that another contender will take home that gong. However, this Darren Aronofsky project finally (and belatedly) allows Fraser to get seriously dramatic as a morbidly obese father who’s attempting to make amends on multiple relationship fronts. As well, Fraser will soon be seen in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, so it’s safe to say that Fraser will likely never disappear from Hollywood again, unless it’s his decision to do so.

6. Perry Mason (HBO series streaming on HBO Max)

No one does terrifically-mopey-looking-TV-leading-man like Matthew Rhys does, so it’s a treat to have him back on our TV screens again. As with Bel-Air, this is one of those darkened reboots with Rhys picking up with Perry’s hard-living, early-career days. This show doesn’t aim to compare to the Raymond Burr-starring series of yesteryear, and in fact, it’s an altogether different beast. Reinvention doesn’t have to be all bad! In fact, it’s quite rewarding here. All hail Team Downey, which is quietly giving us buckets of TV joy with Netflix’s Sweet Tooth as well.

5. The Mandalorian (Disney+ series)

This week’s episode took a little breather in terms of dominating social media talk (although an important question surfaced), but rest assured that Pedro Pascal is still leading two major shows this month, and there shall be more of both after the current seasons. Also, no one could even dream of pushing this show forth without more Grogu, a.k.a., “Baby Yoda.” Speaking of which, the adorable scene stealer has got first-word territory in his sights, and our own Brian Grubb has a fine take on where that should go.

4. Poker Face (Peacock series)

You gotta hand it to Natasha Lyonne. She harnessed her Orange Is The New Black comeback role and rose to the apex of streaming prestige TV. Following two seasons of the stellar Russian Doll on Netflix, she and Glass Onion cameo expert Rian Johnson can’t be stopped while bringing a Murder-Of-The-Week show roaring onto Peacock. Natasha’s protagonist, Charlie, cannot help but know when people are full of sh*t, and that ability-curse dominates the entire first season of this show. Not only do we get to see Joseph Gordon Levitt, Adrian Brody, Dascha Polanco, Benjamin Bratt, Lil Rel Howery, and Chloe Sevigny pop into this first season, but the second round promises to be full of star power, too.

3. Selective Outrage (Netflix stand-up special)

No doubt, the majority of people who wanted to watch this special either did so live or caught up in the immediate aftermath, considering that Chris Rock finally took the gloves off and let the whole world know how he felt about the 2022 Oscars Slap from Will Smith. In the aftermath, Jada’s camp expressed displeasure, and Will’s camp expressed embarrassment, and there are many lessons to be learned here, including the following: if you’re gonna slap someone with a platform like Chris Rock’s standup capacity, you’re definitely gonna hear jokes at some point.

2: You (Netflix series)

Stalker Joe finally becomes a bit more interesting again (man, I was really worried for awhile with the fourth season finale surfacing, and that doesn’t make this season’s surrounding cast any more interesting, although it does provide some hope for the show’s future. If you haven’t caught up already, it’s still worth finding out where Professor Jonathan Moore finishes the season, and Penn Badgley cannot possibly enjoy taking Joe home at night.

1. The Last Of Us (HBO series streaming on HBO Max)

There probably isn’t such a thing as a happy ending on this show, even if brighter moments, here and there, have thrilled fans of the video game that pulled off the unlikely feat of adapting a video game adaptation into a juggernaut that people definitely want to watch live. Years after those The Hangover movies, Craig Mazin really does have the touch when it comes to fine-turning HBO hits for the masses. The finale will contain a special nod for long-term fans of this apocalyptic-wasteland saga, and if you haven’t yet had the exquisite pleasure of watching Mazin’s Chernobyl, then perhaps you’ve now got one way to make the wait for TLOU Season 2 a bit more bearable.

Jenna Ortega Reunited With ‘Wednesday’ Co-Star Fred Armisen For Her Not-At-All-Gloomy ‘SNL’ Monologue

Jenna Ortega recently played up her Wednesday persona next to Aubrey Plaza at the SAG Awards, but very little of that vibe was on display for her SNL monologue. And thankfully, the Wednesday dance happened during a promo, so there was a slight reprieve from that here, too.

Instead, we received a much more peppy and personable Ortega, who admits that the last few years (not only with Wednesday but also Scream, You and more) has taken her down a much darker path than in real life. “I think there is something about my face,” Ortega joked. “[T]hat people see and say, ‘Hey, let’s throw blood on that.”

As well, Ortega acknowledged her status as the youngest SNL host of the season at age 20. She took a walk down early-career memory lane before nodding towards a Wednesday co-star in that audience. That would be Fred Armisen, who was thankfully not in Uncle Fester garb but did decide to pretend that he’d never been on the SNL stage until now. That’s when Ortega transformed into a fan for all to see (she pointed towards her favorite SNL skit, “The Californians”), and it was all very charming.

Jenna Ortega can currently be seen dodging Ghostface in ‘Scream VI.’

The 1975 Displayed Pure Longing During A Performance Of ‘Oh Caroline’ On ‘Saturday Night Live’

In their second performance of the night, The 1975 displayed a soft side of themselves with a performance of “Oh Caroline” from Being Funny In A Foreign Language. The performance took place in the same colorful, living room-esque set-up as their intimate “I’m In Love With You” performance from earlier in the night.

While on stage, the band’s vocalist Matty Healy showed off his guitar chops, as he sang of unrequited love from a woman.

“Oh, Caroline / I wanna get it right this time / ‘Cause you’re always on my mind / Oh, Caroline,” sings Healy on the song’s chorus.

Much of the songs on Being Funny In A Foreign Language touch on the nuances of love. Throughout the album, listeners will hear Healy sing of joyous love, and the type of love that breaks one heart. In an interview with Washington Post, Healy admitted it was difficult for him to express these feelings of love.

“I’m at a point now where it’s easier for me to say I pissed myself or to do something really unflattering than [to say], ‘Tell me you love me, that’s all I need to hear,’” Healy said, referring to another song on the album called “All I Need To Hear.”

Lil Yachty And Quinta Brunson Will Appear On ‘Saturday Night Live’ Next Month

The first Saturday Night Live guests of April have been revealed. During tonight’s episode, which was hosted by Jenna Ortega and featured two musical performances from The 1975, an onscreen message between commercials revealed that Quinta Brunson from Abbott Elementary will host the first SNL episode of April. The news was then shared on SNL‘s social accounts shortly after.

Joining Brunson will be rapper and singer Lil Yachty, who is still hot off the release of his critically-acclaimed new album, Let’s Start Here.

Yachty’s latest album features him making a departure from his Soundcloud rap stylings and experimenting with a more psychedelic rock sound. In a recent interview with Billboard, Yachty revealed that making this album was vital for him to show his fans — and more importantly, himself — his wide range of musical talents.

“There’s a lot of kids who haven’t heard any of my references,” he said. “They don’t know anything about Bon Iver or Pink Floyd or Black Sabbath or James Brown. I wanted to show people a different side of me — and that I can do anything, most importantly.”

Quinta Brunson and Lil Yachty’s episode of Saturday Night Live will air on Saturday, April 1 at 11:30 p.m. EST on NBC. The episode will also stream live on Peacock.

The 1975 Shared A Cozy Performance Of ‘I’m In Love With You’ On ‘Saturday Night Live’

After a series of headline-making performances during their At Their Very Best tour, The 1975 brought it back to New York City tonight (March 11). The indie pop-rock band took to the Saturday Night Live stage to perform “I’m In Love With You” from their critically-acclaimed 2022 album, Being Funny In A Foreign Language.

During the performance, lead vocalist Matty Healy, delivered soft, sweet vocals, joined by the rest of the band, as they played a set on a colorfully-arranged stage. The stage was lit very brightly, Healy sang and dance in front of a Persian rug, with a small desk seated in the background. Various colors radiate off of a bookshelf near the back of the stage.

While much of The 1975’s are often humorous and tongue-in-cheek, Healy revealed in an interview with Vulture that this particular song came together as his bandmates encouraged him to tap into those specific set of emotions.

“The guys could hear me in the vocal booth trying to find a word that would negate the sentimentality a little bit,” said Healy. “Maybe ‘I’m not in love with you’ or ‘I’m not quite in love with you’ or something to give it that 1975, not-so-sweet [feeling]. And they were like, ‘Dude, the whole thing that you’re doing at the moment is being in the present. If it sounds like the song’s called ‘I’m in Love With You,’ write a song called ‘I’m in Love With You’ about being in love with you.’”

Tonight marks the band’s second time appearing on SNL, their first being in 2016, when they performed on an episode hosted by Larry David.

Marcus Smart Was Ejected After Getting Into It With Trae Young

Marcus Smart and Trae Young are no strangers to getting into altercations with one another. The latest example of this came on Saturday night during the Boston Celtics’ 134-125 win over the Hawks in Atlanta, as Smart got ejected late in the fourth quarter after he accosted Young for kicking him below the belt on a layup attempt.

Boston had an eight point lead with just under 90 seconds remaining when Young drove to the rim and threw up a floater. The officials said there was some contact to send Young to the line for an and-one, but while Young was in the air, he kicked out his right leg and appeared to make contact with Smart’s groin. Unsurprisingly, Smart did not appreciate this, so he went right up to Young and wrapped him up.

Smart got right in Young’s face and began talking to him, which Young and John Collins didn’t like. Then, Smart went to ground and took Young with him, which escalated things a bit and led to teammates, coaches, and the officials intervening to break them up.

Technicals were handed out to both Young and Smart, while Smart was ejected from the game. Fortunately for Boston, Smart’s absence did not hurt their efforts to pick up a win.
