What’s The Lensa AI Craze About, Who’s Using It, And What Do Its Critics Say?

For better or worse, AI has officially arrived. Soon the most complex issues facing humanity will be aided by the help of super intelligence, and soon the world may or may not be enslaved by Malevolent Cyborgs… in the meantime, AI is having a blast making caricature art.

Yes, you know that dude at the carnival who can draw you and your SO as Bonnie and Clyde with big ears? Well, download Lensa on the app store, send the software ten photos of yourself, and this robotic Salvadore Dali will legitimately turn you into a beautiful anime space god. It’s kinda related, right? Celebrities like Chance The Rapper, Steve Aoki, and Britney Spears’ new spouse Sam Asghari have all taken to social media to show off their own personalized Lensa images. They’re both hilarious and epic and generally pretty fun to gaze at.

Seems great, but here’s a question many are asking: Is this really AI or just some kids locked in the basement at Art Center in Pasadena? Does it create its “own” works of art? Because the software relies on a database of already made works to generate its images, some argue Lensa steals from artists.

Folks have taken to twitter to confront Prisma Labs, Lensa’s developer, about the prospect of harming professional Artists.

Prisma responded with this:

“It can be a great assisting tool.” Suspect or so awesome? You decide, based on your ethics, beliefs, and what you feel about the long-debated topic of creative ownership in general. If you want to have a go at Prisma’s new technology, download the app here. The first round of fifty photos will cost $3.99 and a yearly membership with unlimited photos will put you back $39.99.

Jeremy Allen White’s ‘The Bear’ Hairdo Was Inspired By An Iconic Photo Of Marco Pierre White

By now, Jeremy Allen White has likely heard every conceivable reaction about his character from The Bear. He knows that people refer to Carmy as “Ketamine Gene Wilder.” He realizes that the Internet collectively thirsted over his Chef Intensity, to the point where I spent arguably too many words mulling over whether Carmy should have sex in Season 2. And now, all of that heat is piling atop the awards buzz leading up to Golden Globes nominations that will roll out on December 12.

The Shameless star, who suddenly had four A24 scripts waiting for him in the wake of The Bear, previously discussed how he used water and sweat to style his disheveled Carmy hairdo for the kitchen. He recently sat down with Deadline’s Lynette Rice, who remarked, “Carmy’s hair really is its own character on the show.” To that, White unveiled his Chef hair’s inspiration, which would be the cover of Marco Pierre White’s Devil in the Kitchen book. You can see that cover here, and White sure nailed the look. Here’s more from via Deadline:

“Yeah, I was reading all kinds of books before starting the show and there’s this pretty famous picture of Marco Pierre White smoking a cigarette on the cover of his book The Devil in the Kitchen. And I was like, ‘Oh wow, that guy looks cool. I wonder if I can grow my hair out and try to look something like that?’ And so I did. And then yeah, I don’t know, I think Carmy was kind of pulling his hair out the whole season. He was on the edge the whole time.”

Here’s a different photo of Marco Pierre White in front of another famous photo taken by Bob Carlos Clarke. Get it, Chefs.

So that R&B heads can focus on listening to what they really love in its true form, we’ll be offering a digest of the best new R&B songs that fans of the genre should hear every Friday.

Since the last update of this weekly R&B and Afrobeats column, we’ve received plenty of music and news from the genre’s artists. SZA teased a remix with The Weeknd while Kelela teased the tracklist for her sophomore album Raven. Brent Faiyaz stopped by The Tonight Show to perform “All Mine” from his Wasteland album and Miguel teased what appeared to be music from his upcoming fifth album.

Here are some more releases on the new music front that you should check out:

They. — “Set Me Free”

The R&B duo They. has spent most of the year slowly progressing towards their upcoming third album. Following their “Blu Moon,” “Comfortable” with Fana Hues, and “Lonely” with Bino Rideaux, the singer-producer Drew Love and Dante Jones return with “Set Me Free.” The rock-leaning song is one that Love uses to create a moment of hope and share his desire to have someone rescue him in his time of need.

Emotional Oranges — “Let Me Go”

Emotional Oranges has big plans in store for its fans over the next couple of months. First, they’ll release their fourth project The Juice, Vol. III and that will be followed by The Pulp Fiction Tour in 2023. Until both of those arrive, fans can enjoy their latest single “Let Me Go.”

Popcaan — “Next To Me” Feat. Toni-Ann Singh

For the last year, Popcaan has been letting off loose singles without much news about an upcoming album. That trend continues with “Next To Me” featuring Miss World 2019 winner Toni-Ann Singh. Romance rumors have swirled around Popcaan and Singh for a few months, and their new song and its accompanying video surely adds to the talk around them.

RINI — Ultraviolet

Led by a couple of singles, RINI returns with his new EP Ultraviolet. It follows the release of his Constellations debut album last year and its one that features a new sound from the singer. “This project is really about me stepping out of my comfort zone on all fronts,” RINI said in a press release I’m at a place in my artistry where I’m testing new things, running with every spark of inspiration – and Ultraviolet is definitely a product of this.”

Hennessy — Time Revealed

Providence, RI-based singer Hennessy is having her coming out party with her debut project Time Revealed. Through the project’s six songs, Hennessy notes the many things that time has revealed for her, whether it be the truth about romantic relationships, friendships, and her dreams. It’s a crisp and telling body of work that also features contributions from notable industry names like Bizness Boi, Landstrip Chip, and Storm Ford.

Jordan Hawkins & Reggie Becton — “Screamin’”

Good news to all Jordan Hawkins fans! 2023 will bring a new project from the North Carolina singer. That news is confirmed with the release of “Screamin” alongside Reggie Becton. It’s a sensually-powered nightclub anthem that pairs well with Hawkins’ guitar riffs and passionate melodies as well as Becton’s emotional and pleading verse.

Storm Ford — “21”

Providence-born and Atlanta-based singer Storm Ford has made a name for herself by writing for artists like Ari Lennox, Summer Walker, Baby Rose, and more. The LVRN-signed songwriter is now back to sharing her own music with the release of “21.” The confessional ballad looks and what being 21 brought Ford. The record is a brutally honest letter to self about the stagnant moments in life that come despite the continued effort to grow and elevate.

Mavins — Chapter X

Mavins, the record label founded by famed Nigerian producer Don Jazzy, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. To honor the occasion, the label unleashed its compilation album X with help from its artists. Through ten songs, well-known names like Rema, Ayra Starr, and Ladipoe while other strong talents like Crayon, Boy Spyce, Magixx, and more also supply their voice to the album.

Maleek Berry — “Ole Gan”

Maleek Berry was one of the prominent names in afrobeats during the 2010s thanks to records like “Kontrol,” “Juice,” and “Been Calling.” While he’s faded to the background a bit, Berry is ready to get back into the swing of things with his latest single “Ole Gan.” The track follows “My Way,” two records the flaunt great promise of what’s to come next for Berry.

Phora — The Butterfly Effect

One of the most productive singers in the R&B game is Phora. He’s released a project every year since 2012, with his last being last year’s Heartbreak Hotel, and while it looked like his streak would come to an end in 2022, he fired off a new project to beat the buzzer. The Butterfly Effect arrives with 16 songs to its name and features from Skye and Garren.

Titose — Cracks Of You

Botswana singer Titose ended her 2021 year with her debut project Was It Something I Said?. This time around, she brings her 2022 year to an end with her new single “Cracks Of You.” The song is her first release since Was It Something I Said? and it’s a soothing and tender record that eloquently details her search for reciprocation in unrequited love.

Rileyy Lanez — Bittersweet

Bronx singer Rileyy Lanez spent the last half of the year preparing for the release of her new EP with singles like “Blessings,” “One Of Them Nights,” and “Not Mine.” Now that new EP, Bittersweet is finally here and it comes with seven songs without features as Lanez handles the project’s vocal responsibilities from start to finish.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Blue Rojo Discusses Queer Representation And Being A Heartbroken ‘Motopapi’ In His ‘Foto X Whatsapp’ Video

Following his appearance on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, Blue Rojo is shifting his music career into the next gear with “La Foto x Whatsapp.” The Mexican singer-songwriter is teasing the revved-up music video for the heartbreaking track that will drop later today.

Last month, Blue Rojo received a big breakthrough in his career when he was included on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. His contribution “Inframundo” was alongside tracks by Rihanna, Burna Boy, and Tems. With his single “”La Foto x Whatsapp,” he is returning to the world of his debut album Solitario. The man that broke his heart on that LP rears his head once again.

About expressing himself as a queer artist, Blue Rojo told Uproxx, “I do feel proud that I can do these things now without having fear. This song is super gay and fun. [The queer representation] is necessary. I use ‘puto’ in the song, which I’m reclaiming as a gay man and playing with language and words. That’s what I wanted to do.”

“La Foto x Whatsapp” blends reggaeton beats with elements of electronica music. Blue Rojo sings about finding out that his boyfriend is seeing a woman. He made the discovery through a photo a sent him a friend sent him on Whatsapp. With his operatic voice, Blue Rojo taps in the heartache and betrayal of the situation and delivers an emotional performance. The heartbreaking club banger includes a sample of “Por Ti” by Belanova, which he called a “full-circle moment” as a fan of the Mexican electro-pop act.

In the video for “La Foto x Whatsapp” that was directed by José Lupercio, Blue Rojo reminisces about riding on a motorcycle with his boyfriend amidst his breakdown. The power of social media like Whatsapp is emphasized throughout with sinister special effects. While Blue Rojo described the melodrama of telenovelas as an influence for the video, he welcomes any comparisons to Rosalía, who popularized motorcycle style this year with her Motomami album. “I love Rosalía,” he said. “Mexico City, telenovelas, and Motopapi vibes. That’s how I see it.”

The full video for “La Foto x Whatsapp” will be released today at 6 PM EST. Blue Rojo will soon begin work on his second album. With the music that he has out now, he is proud to be pushing barriers as a queer artist in Latin pop music.

“If someone can identify and be inspired, new artists or young people, and they can feel that love, energy, and safety in my music, that’s the most important thing,” Blue Rojo says. “That freedom to express themselves.”

Former Press Secretary (And Current Navy Commander) Sean Spicer Celebrated The Anniversary Of D-Day…On The Anniversary Of Pearl Harbor

As the first press secretary for Donald Trump, then-future Dancing with the Stars contestant Sean Spicer kicked off his residency in high fashion: by lying to the press. He thundered that the 45th president’s inauguration drew bigger crowds than they did. It set a template for his successors to follow. So when Spicer got his military milestones mixed up, it only seemed fitting for a guy infamous for bending the truth.

Wednesday was the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, when the Japanese army finally drew the United States into World War II. You wouldn’t know that if you followed Spicer on Twitter. Instead, you’d think it was the day of another WWII turning point. “Today is Dday,” he tweeted. “It only lives in infamy if we remember and share the story of sacrifice with the next generation.” He hashtagged it “#DDay.”

Alas, the Normandy landings, which laid the foundations for the Allied forces to vanquish the Axis powers, happened over the summer of 1944, on June 6. Spicer was over two years and seven months off. Spicer deleted the bumbling tweet and apologized, but only after he’d been suitably dragged for his error.

Enough people screengrabbed the gaffe before it was taken down, prompting lots and lots of jokes.

To make matters worse, Spicer should know his military history: He joined the Navy in 1999, and is currently a commander.

Some wondered if Spider knew what “infamy” meant, and whether he knew it was not a good thing.

At least this was misinformation Spicer didn’t spread purposefully. Besides, unlike one guy who almost became a GOP congressman, he probably knows how many states there are in America.

Todd McShay Is Getting Dragged By A Prospect’s Family For Saying He’s Skipping The Playoff To Protect Himself For The 2023 Draft

Jaxon Smith-Njigba is among the top wide receiver prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft. Smith-Njigba managed to put up monster numbers during the 2021 campaign despite playing for an Ohio State team that also had Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, both of whom were selected in the first round earlier this year, lining up at receiver.

The reason he did not come close to replicating those numbers in 2022 stems from a lingering hamstring issue that limited him to five catches and 43 yards. He got hurt against Notre Dame in the season opener and tried to come back twice, only to aggravate it both times. It’s led to him sitting out of Ohio State’s upcoming College Football Playoff appearance, and according to Todd McShay of ESPN, this is rubbing NFL people the wrong way.

“NFL scouts would love to see him play, and there are a lot of reports from NFL scouts that I’ve talked to that said he’s healthy enough to play, and he’s protecting himself for the Draft,” McShay said. “And I’ve got news for every prospect out there: NFL teams know, they know what you had for lunch last Thursday, they’re gonna know whether you’re healthy or not, and if you’re healthy enough to play, you need to be out there with your teammates playing.”

While McShay said there’s no guarantee this will hurt Smith-Njigba’s stock, he pointed out that there were things scouts wanted to see him do coming into this year. But the implication that the now-former Buckeye is sitting out to protect his position in the Draft did not sit well with his family, as Smith-Njigba’s mother and brother, the latter of whom plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates, expressed their disappointment in McShay.

“I want to be out there competing with my brothers more than anything,” Smith-Njigba told ESPN’s Pete Thamel earlier this week. “The decision to turn pro was made after I was unable to come back on multiple occasions during the season and the doctors determined I would be unable to participate in the playoffs.”

Smith-Njigba caught 95 balls for 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He had the most productive game in Rose Bowl history during the Buckeyes’ win over the Utah Utes to end the year, as he registered 15 receptions for 347 yards and three scores. Smith-Njigba told Thamel he plans to participate in the NFL Draft Combine, which begins on Feb. 28, 2023.

When Will Coachella’s 2023 Lineup Be Announced?

Set your calendars. The annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival (more commonly referred to by the shorthand Coachella) has been confirmed for April 2023. The annual multi-day outdoor event is almost always one of the most highly anticipated musical events of the year. From stylish fashions, and a wide array of food options to unique visual art installations, there are so many things to do on the grounds of the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

But to be frank, most attendees are there for one reason only, the epic music concert. Last year’s concert lineup was epic, even after Kanye West dropped out. “Bad Buy” singer Billie Eilish had a trippy set, as well as Harry Styles and The Weeknd. So with ticket packages going on sale soon, the question is, when will 2023’s lineup be revealed?

Last year’s lineup wasn’t announced until mid-January, so it is safe to assume we can expect an announcement around that same time, which gives attendees a few weeks to gather up their coins to snap a ticket. Additionally, festival promoter Paul Tollett ensures R&B singer Frank Ocean is still slated to be one of the following year’s headliners after the 2020 festival was canceled due to COVID.

The 2023 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is set to take place across two weekends in April of 2023. The first week is April 14 through 16, and the second weekend is April 21 through 23.

What Are The Coachella 2023 Dates?

The most famous music festival in the world will return to the California desert next year after an eventful and historical 2022. The dates for Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival have been set for April 14-16, as well as April 21-23. Fans looking to get a jump on the tickets for the coveted festival before the lineup is announced can do so on Friday, June 17.

Next year’s festival already looks like another momentous one, as co-founder Paul Tollett said Frank Ocean would make his long-awaited return to the Coachella stage. While the remaining headliners and other performers have yet to be announced, judging from the most recent example in 2022 and the pre-pandemic show in 2019, there’ll be a massive variety in artists taking the stage, with some of music’s biggest stars closing it out.

In 2022, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles headlined, while Brockhampton played one of their final shows as a group. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar surprised fans at his cousin Baby Keem’s set, and Doja Cat made a case for a headlining set of her own.

Unfortunately, Coachella fans who purchased the festival’s NFTs to secure a lifetime ticket may be out of luck unless the organizers can sort out the mess left behind by the FTX crash. They’re working on that now; for the rest of us, it might just be safer to buy tickets the old-fashioned way for the time being.

Whoopi Goldberg Is Defending ‘Blazing Saddles’ As ‘One Of The Greatest Because It Hits Everybody’

Following Mindy Kaling‘s debatable remarks about how every character on The Office would be “cancelled” today, The View panel discussed how classic comedies would go over in today’s social media-addicted world. Whoopi Goldberg, in particular, went after critics of Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles, and the outspoken co-host pushed back on criticism that the movie goes way too far with its satire of racism.

Via Entertainment Weekly:

“It deals with racism by coming at it right, straight, out front, making you think and laugh about it, because, listen, it’s not just racism, it’s all the isms, he hits all the isms,” the Oscar-winning actress said. “Blazing Saddles, because it’s a great comedy, would still go over today. There are a lot of comedies that are not good, okay? We’re just going to say that. That’s not one of them. Blazing Saddles is one of the greatest because it hits everybody.”

Not content with just offering an impassioned defense of the film, Goldberg encouraged audiences to literally watch it today. “If you’ve never seen Blazing Saddles, you should do yourself a favor, get some popcorn, get a glass of wine, and put it on,” Goldberg said, “because it’s magnificent.”

As the rest of the panel brought up other examples including Joy Behar who went to bat for Archie Bunker in the classic sitcom, All in the Family, Goldberg took things one step further by firing a warning at Twitter critics who really don’t want to find out if she’s playing.

“Leave my Blazing Saddles alone,” Goldberg said. “Don’t make me come for you!”
