Trump Is Freaking Out Like A Cornered Rat Over All The Right Wing Media Knives That Are Out For Him After MAGA’s Disastrous Midterms Performance

Do you know what screams “completely unbothered?” When a twice-impeached former president whose favored candidates largely tanked in the most recent midterm elections takes to his own failing social media platform to assure his fans he’s totally not mad and actually a “stable genius.”

Donald Trump is making headlines for yet another public meltdown following the GOP’s less-than-stellar performance in the 2022 Midterms. As results poured in earlier this week, plenty of news outlets reported that the Donald was spitting mad over how some of the MAGA-backed campaigns performed, blaming the “liberal media” and even his own wife, Melania, for his poor choices in which hopefuls he backed this year. But Trump — who seems completely hinged and not at all like he’s about to start hurling ketchup at the walls of Mar-a-Lago — took to Truth Social today to dispute those accounts.

In fact, despite a bunch of his buddies losing badly and the predicted “red wave” failing to make the “big,” “huge,” “tremendous” impact he hoped, Trump is zen, baby. He’s an Aperol spritz slowly condensating in the warm Italian sun. He two glasses of red wine into the latest Lindsay Lohan Christmas movie. His brain is practically floating in a salt deprivation tank.

We’ll let him tell it.

Ah yes, the old “I’m going to launch a series of posts ranting about what a ‘stable genius’ I am to prove that I haven’t completely lost the plot because my GOP buddies are turning on me and Rupert Murdoch’s media empire has tossed me out like yesterday’s garbage.” Works every time.

7 years ago a study explained why men and women are different

This article originally appeared on 12.03.15

Have you ever heard that women are “hardwired” to have better memories? Or that men are “naturally” better at navigating?

Sure, they’re just stereotypes, but they’re coming from somewhere. And for a long time we’ve been led to believe that men’s and women’s brains are fundamentally different, so why couldn’t blanket statements like these hold some truth?

Neuroscientist Gina Rippon, a professor at Aston University and noted speaker on the subject of sex differences, offered a different idea in 2014. She believes these patterns are acquired through environmental factors — a woman could become great at multitasking because society expects her to be better at it, for example — not because of any innate wiring in her brain.

Now, a new study says she might be right.

A team led by researchers at Tel Aviv University in Israel recently concluded that there is no consistent difference between male and female brains.

The team, led by behavioral neuroscientist Daphna Joel, analyzed the MRI scans of 1,400 individuals, mapping things like gray matter (gooey stuff that handles sensation, emotion … pretty much everything), white matter (the gooey stuff that carries messages between areas of gray matter), and a host of personality traits along the way.

What did they find? That it’s pretty dang rare for a given brain to demonstrate only male or female characteristics.

So next time someone says to you, “Women’s brains do this” or “Men’s brains behave like this,” feel free to call B.S.

The plain truth is that our brains flat out can’t be separated into two distinct gender categories.

Our brains, the researchers say, are more like “mosaics” — wonderful mixtures of the traits we usually associate with men or women.

That’s not to say the study found no differences between the brains of men and women, but rather that a brain consisting of almost all male or female features was pretty uncommon, and that it’d be really tough to tell if a person were biologically male or female just by looking at their brain.

It’s a great reminder that gendering activities and behaviors is a bunch of bunk. Video games aren’t just for boys. Shopping isn’t just for girls.

If you’re not looking at an individual person holistically for the things that make them them, you’re doing it wrong.

Better yet, The Washington Post writes that these findings are “a step towards validating the experiences of those who live outside the gender binary.”

It’s just more evidence to support the idea that the biological “parts” you’re born with don’t really tell us much about who you are.

Turns out that what’s inside is much more fluid and malleable than we ever imagined

3 reasons we need to stop mocking dads who are protective of their daughters.

This article originally appeared on 01.05.16

There’s this one little boy in my daughter’s day care class. I like to joke that I don’t trust him.

He’s every dad’s worst nightmare. Tall (you know, for an infant), dark, and handsome. He’s the oldest boy in class, and he can walk already. That makes him hot shit, and he knows it.

One day an email popped up in my inbox — all the parents get photos of their kids throughout the day: a blurry crawling pic here, a funny naptime shot there — but this one showed my daughter and this little Lothario holding hands. Holding hands!

The jokes were almost too easy. “Time for me and him to have a little talk,” and “He better keep those hands to himself!”

As a progressive dad, I’m on board with the whole “Newsflash, it’s 2016! Women are making their own decisions about their own bodies. And polishing your shotgun on the front porch when her prom date pulls up is, um, problematic” thing.

That’s why it’s so easy to make those kinds of jokes. In fact, the “overprotective dad” has been subject to a lot of ridicule lately.

But there I was looking at that photo, and for the first time, I felt “it” — a little twinge of terror. That desire to shelter and protect my daughter and not let anyone with remotely suspect intentions near her ever, ever, ever.

Which left me wondering: Does being a progressive dad mean I’m not allowed to be protective of my daughter anymore?

That I have to somehow pretend she won’t face unique dangers and challenges that boys her age probably never will? That I have to treat her exactly the same way I would if she were my son, instead?

I don’t think it does.

First, let me just say: When it comes to rape culture, our main goal should be, you know, fixing it. Not sheltering women.

We need to teach men to understand and respect consent. We need to stop objectifying and reducing women to their sexuality. And as men, we need to set a better example for the next generation.

I’m going to do my damnedest to work toward those goals.

But I’m also reserving the right to play the role of protective dad. Here’s why:

1. It’s not always about ownership.

I get where this concern comes from, I really do. In a world of purity balls and “virginity certificates,” the dad-daughter relationship has definitely crossed the line from protective to creepy way too many times in our culture.

But personally, I can’t relate to that notion at all right now. I’m still wiping poop off of my daughter’s butt multiple times a day. Ownership over her sexuality isn’t exactly at the top of my mind.

Wanting to protect doesn’t have to be about control. It doesn’t have to be about sex. For me, it’s just about trying to make sure my daughter is safe, healthy, and happy.

And it turns out, there are plenty of good reasons for us to be as protective as we are.

2. Because the world is more dangerous for women than it is for men. That’s a fact.

This is just the sad, awful truth.

About 1 in 5 women, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will experience rape or attempted rape in their lifetime, and 1 in 20 will face other kinds of sexual violence.

According to RAINN, almost half of those women will be under 18 when it happens.

And finally, 4 out of 5 assaults are committed by someone the victim knows.

When I see stats like these, I realize there’s a pretty good chance that someone in my daughter’s life will try to hurt her one day, probably while she’s still living in our home. I’ll probably have met this person. I’ll probably have shook their hand.

That thought absolutely terrifies me.

Artist Mike Dawson has a simple approach when it comes to this stuff: “I don’t make the rules. You don’t make the rules. She makes the rules. Her body, her rules.”

I love the sound of that. But a lot of men and boys out there aren’t playing by the rules. And they’re getting away with it.

That makes me mad. It makes me afraid. I feel like I have to do something about it.

The biggest part of that is raising her to be strong, to make good decisions, to be a good judge of character, and most importantly, to know that it’s not her fault if someone crosses the line.

But it might also mean giving a firm handshake and a sideways glance to her dates. It might mean carrying a gruff standoffishness or a thick veil of skepticism.

OK, so I’m not going to be “polishing my shotgun” when her prom date shows up. But being kind of a jerk until that person earns my trust? Totally possible.

3. It’s coming from a place of love.

Ultimately, what I’m saying is that us dads — all parents, really — are just out here doing our best.

Raising kids is hard. Good lord, is it ever hard. My wife and I are not sleeping well. We’re usually covered in spit up, poop, pee, or all three. And we haven’t even entered the wonderful world of bullies, behavior issues, puberty, and whatever else lies ahead.

Right now, it’s really hard to think about the long term. Right now, we just want to do what we can to keep her safe.

Sometimes we’ll probably do too much. Other times we might not do enough. But we’ve got to try.

I know there’s a right and wrong way to be protective.

Not trusting or allowing our daughter to make her own decisions would be wrong. But not letting her walk home by herself at night, while it might feel unfair, might just be the kind of exception that makes a difference.

Threatening another person, even a smarmy teenage boy, with bodily harm, is never OK. But showing them that I’m involved in my daughter’s life, actively concerned about her well-being, and making it clear that I’m not going to put up with her being mistreated? Absolutely.

I’m not saying I know exactly where that line is, but I’m going to try to figure it out.

In the meantime, I guess I can handle occasionally being hated by my daughter when she thinks I’m being an overbearing pain in the ass. But if anything ever happened to her because I trusted the world around her too much?

I’d never forgive myself.

Oh, and as for that boy in day care?

We’re going to have to have a few words. You know, as soon as he learns to talk.

Anya Taylor-Joy Turned Down A Part In A Disney Project For ‘The Witch’

Anya Taylor-Joy‘s “sliding doors” moment came in 2013 or 2014. One door led to a Disney Channel pilot; the other, The Witch. The Disney door might have paid better and led to immediate fame, and it’s fun to imagine Taylor-Joy waving the iconic Disney Channel wand, but walking through The Witch door has proven to be the right decision.

“I remember it was the same day I got asked to be in a Disney Channel pilot, and it was so exciting to be offered anything at all that I ran around the house like a loon,” she told Harper’s Bazaar about the day she was offered a role in the Robert Eggers film. “But I just had this really good feeling about The Witch that made me willing to forego the Disney experience for the thing that felt unknown to me, the thing that felt sacred.”

Taylor-Joy’s hunch paid off. Not only did she avoid getting churned through the Disney machine, but The Witch also launched her career, leading to starring roles in The Northman, The Queen’s Gambit, and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Taylor-Joy will have her biggest years yet in 2023 and 2024 with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, where she voices Princess Peach, and the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa.

I don’t see the stars of, like, Dog with a Blog working with George Miller (and Mario!).

Liam Gallagher Thinks Modern Rock Music Has ‘No Stars,’ Just ‘Sh*t Bags Scared To Open Their Mouths’

These days, generally speaking, it tends to be pop and hip-hop songs that dominate the charts. By some estimates, the last rock song to hit N0. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 is Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me” in 2001 (although it’d be easy to consider Olivia Rodrigo’s 2021 chart topper “Good 4 U” rock). Whatever the case, for at least the past couple decades, rock fans have lamented the lack of rock in the mainstream music conversation.

As for how the rock landscape looks now, Liam Gallagher has identified what he sees as an issue.

In response to a previous unrelated Gallagher tweet, a fan wrote, “Mate I can feel a little rumble of guitar music coming through proper RnR I rekon it’s on its way back to top Rkid where it belongs. C’mon.” Gallagher responded, “Fingers crossed RKID lots of guitar bands out there but unfortunately there’s no STARS man all sh*t bags scared to open there mouths.”

(“Rkid, by the way, is a slang term meaning brother, sister, or friend that was coined by Gallagher himself, according to Urban Dictionary.)

As for that Oasis reunion that people seem to be clamoring for, the odds of one don’t look good. Noel Gallagher recently said, “As funny as this sounds, Oasis sell as many records now per year as we did when we were together. We’re as popular now in the eyes of the people as we ever were, and I’m happy with it. If we got back together, it would be a circus and there’s no point. Just leave it as it is. I’m happy, he’s [Liam] doing his thing. He’s still selling out Knebworth. It’s like, mate, good luck to you, do you know what I mean?”

The ‘John Wick 4’ Trailer Had Lots Of People Hyped For Wick Vs. Donnie Yen

The countdown to a John Wick 4 trailer is finally over. Thursday brought the first extended look at the next chapter in the favorite action movie franchise of both dog and horse enthusiasts, and while only the latter appeared in the preview, there was plenty to like all around.

The Keanu Reeves-led franchise has steadily expanded into an extended universe of sorts in the coming years, with a Continental-based TV show in the works and another prequel — an Ana de Armas-anchored Ballerina — set to feature the high-stakes assassin universe of Wick lore. That’s great news for fans, as the franchise has featured some outstanding action sequences with some very talented people.

Reaction to the trailer was almost universally positive, as was news that the film would hit theaters on March 24. There were some very meme-worthy screenshots in the trailer, for sure.

But mostly people were just excited that everyone’s favorite assassin is back in action.

The big reveal in the trailer was the general plot of John Wick 4, in which the titular character sets up a battle for freedom from the assassin game. But perhaps the biggest reaction to what we saw was a bit of casting news: Donnie Yen, the Hong Kong action star and anchor of the Ip Man franchise.

As Collider reported on Thursday, Yen will also square off against another legend, Hiroyuki Sanada, in the film. That alone has plenty of folks excited, and hopefully the trailer’s bullets-deflected-by-swords sequence will be enough to get fans through the long winter to come before John Wick 4 hits theaters.

Where Was Netflix’s ‘Falling For Christmas’ With Lindsay Lohan Filmed?

As we swiftly guide through the Brendan Fraser Rennaissance, over into the Jennifer Coolidge Jennaissance, we must keep someone very important in mind: Lindsay Lohan.

The Lindsayssance has been building for a few years as the former child star slowly picks up projects, beginning with her latest two-picture Netflix deal that was confirmed earlier this year. The first movie, Falling For Christmas, hits the streamer this week, just in time to kick off the holiday season with a little bit of rom-com fun.

Falling For Christmas follows a wealthy heiress who gets into an Overboard situation while on a skiing trip, and suffers from amnesia from an accident, which puts her under the care of the charming lodge owner and his daughter. Here is the official synopsis:

A newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress (Lindsay Lohan) gets into a skiing accident, suffers from total amnesia and finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner (Chord Overstreet) and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.

The movie features a perfectly snowy backdrop of Utah, as it was filmed in both Salt Lake City and Park City last November. This means the crew got some prime picturesque snowy shots to pair with Lohan’s spunky rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock.” The holiday season is upon us!

Falling For Christmas is now streaming on Netflix.

Marco Rubio Is Out There Admitting That Republicans Are Unpopular, And It’s A ‘Miracle’ That They Win Elections

Marco Rubio stopped by Sean Hannity’s show on Wednesday night to talk about the midterm election results. Despite the lack of a Republican “red wave,” Rubio and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis were both big winners with the latter garnering a significant amount of support to claim the top of the Republican ticket in 2024 instead of Donald Trump, who’s getting alive right now.

However, Rubio wasn’t there to talk about the upcoming presidential showdown. Instead, he explained to Hannity that his reelection signified a groundswell of support from “common sense” Hispanic voters in Florida. Rubio then warned that he’s concerned with the rest of the country because Joe Biden and the Democrats are holding up the midterm results as a “license to go out and be crazier than they’ve ever been” because they didn’t get “wiped out.”

According to Rubio, the Democrats are going to be even more “radical” because they think that’s what the country wants. Except the Florida Senator inadvertently supported that argument by essentially admitting that Republicans are wildly unpopular with voters.

Via Andrew Lawrence on Twitter:

But I think we also have to understand something. I mean, literally everything in our society and cultures align against Republicans. It’s a miracle Republicans win anywhere. Virtually every major television and media outlet in America is against us, all the celebrities, all the movie actors. You name it.

So, basically, Democrats shouldn’t look at the midterm results as proof that their policies are want America wants, but at the same time, most of America doesn’t want what Republicans are selling, and it’s really hard for them to win because of it.

Nothing contradictory there, Marco!

LeBron On The Refs Not Calling Fouls When He Gets Hit: ‘I Gotta Learn How To Flop Or Something’

LeBron James is not spending a whole lot of time at the charity stripe this season. Through the first 10 games he’s played this year, James is averaging 4.8 free throw attempts per game, which is the lowest mark of his career. He has not registered double-digit attempts from the line in a game this season, and is in the midst of five consecutive games with five or fewer free throws attempted.

It’s a bit strange that this is happening to James, a player whose physicality and style of play has essentially guaranteed that he’ll score at least 5-6 points a night on free throws alone for the entirety of his career. But that has not been the case this year, and after Wednesday night’s loss to the Clippers in which James got up four shots from the line, he was asked whether the physicality of the games is making it harder for him to score.

James said no, but he does have a solution: flopping.

“I’m ok with that, I love physicality,” James said. “But I also would like for the whistle to be blown when I get hit. I mean, four free throws once again. I look at a lot of guys tonight, shoot a lot of jump shots, and they going nine, 13 times to the free throw line. I gotta learn how to flop or something. Seriously, I need to learn how to do that, swipe my head back or do something to get to the free throw line.”

James scored 30 points on 12-for-22 shooting in the Lakers’ 13-point loss, which dropped them to 2-9 on the season.

Ava Max’s ‘Weapons’ Will Make You Feel Invincible And Ready To Dance

Ava Max’s greatest weapon is an unwavering self-belief in her new disco-pop bop “Weapons,” out today (November 10) via Atlantic Records. Last month, Max expressed she was “extremely upset” that her forthcoming album Diamonds & Dancefloors was allegedly leaking online, but there’s no sight of any melancholy on “Weapons.”

“Stop using your words as weapons,” Max proclaims in the opening line, setting up a strong first verse sung atop an infectious beat. “I swear this town’s a battlefield / Can make you feel strong and vulnerable / These empty hearts are made of steel / But underneath I’m not invincible.” And by acknowledging her human fallibility and vulnerability, Max realizes she actually is invincible, with “a bulletproof vest under my dress” and a big heart that makes her a target. “Stop using your words as weapons,” the multi-platinum star reasserts in the chorus. “They’re never gonna shoot me down.”

“Weapons” was co-written by Max, Ryan Tedder, Henry “Cirkut” Walter, Madison Love, Michel “Lindgren” Schulz, and Melanie Fontana. It joins the similarly catchy, upbeat Diamonds & Dancefloors singles “Million Dollar Baby” and “Maybe You’re The Problem.” Max also teamed up with Tiësto for “The Motto” late last year.

Max foreshadowed the tone of these releases as Uproxx’s August 2021 cover star. “It’s like a new wave of pop music, and it was needed. I love it,” she said, reflecting on her June 2021 single “Everytime I Cry.” “Like, yes I can do a song about something like drinking. And I might, because it’s fun. But it doesn’t mean anything. I want to release meaningful songs. New empowering music. I think empowering music is important.”

Diamonds & Dancefloors is out 1/27/2023 via Atlantic. Pre-order it here.

Ava Max is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
