Henry Cavill’s Surprise Exit From ‘The Witcher’ Continues To Spark Strong Emotions From The Fandom

Over the weekend, Netflix surprised the world with an unexpected announcement that Henry Cavill would be retiring his fancy sword and Liam Hemsworth would be stepping in for him in the upcoming fourth season of The Witcher. The news came just after Cavill announced that he would reprise his role of Superman in whatever upcoming iteration DC decides to make with its fancy new boss. Cavill made his triumphant return as the superhero in the Black Adam post-credits scene. Maybe he didn’t realize just how much he was missing until he decided to put on that spandex suit again.

The former Witcher actor passed the proverbial torch to Hemsworth in a statement: “The fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf,” Cavill said in a statement. “As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”

Season three of the popular series wrapped earlier this year and is expected to premiere sometime in the summer of 2023. While Cavill will be moving on to bigger and better things at the Daily Bugle, many fans are perplexed by the decision, especially since Cavill was a huge fan of the source material and tried really, really hard to land the role of Geralt.

Others are still excited about the Superman news, but was it really worth it in the end?

While the news is shocking, at least he isn’t leaving The Witcher to head to Westeros, right? There are already too many names there to keep track of.

‘The View’ Dressed A Kid Up As Will Smith’s Oscars Slap And It Went Over Great (It Did Not Go Over Great)

It seems like it happened seven years ago, but this is the first Halloween since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars for failing to keep Jada Pinkett Smith’s name out of his f*cking mouth. That still-shocking moment (if not as hysteria causing as Judd Apatow’s tweet made it out to be) was part of a segment on Monday’s episode of The View featuring costumes inspired by 2022’s most-discussed topics. There was a child “dressed in a car dealership inflatable with money glued to the sides” to represent inflation, according to Decider, and another kid “with a Donald Trump wig dressed as a toilet flushing down classified documents” to signify the raid at the Mar-a-Lago.

Please do not dress your child up as a toilet raid — or The Slap.

One costume in particular left viewers with a sour taste: the Oscars slap, where Will Smith stormed the stage at the award show and slapped Chris Rock across the face. The child sporting the outfit wore a gold costume that looked like the Oscar trophy and had a red handprint painted on the side of their face.

Here’s a very normal moment in TV history:

ABC

“We do not want to endorse violence of any kind,” The View wardrobe supervisor Ashley Alderfer Kaufman, “but we couldn’t help but talk about one of the hottest hot topics this year. So, we have our interpretation, we have an Oscars statue, we call this ‘The Oscars Slap,’ and he has red face-paint on the statue.” It’s going over great.

Jeffrey Dahmer is 2022’s worst Halloween costume, but The Slap isn’t far behind.

Post Malone Gave A Couple An Unforgettable Moment With An On-Stage Gender Reveal

Post Malone went the extra mile to show his appreciation for a pair of fans during a recent concert, where he helped the couple with their gender reveal.

During a performance in Tulsa, Malone took some time to greet fans and sign autographs, and one of the fans’ posters had an envelope stuck to it, asking the Syracuse rapper to be a part of the special moment, according to TMZ.

In the footage, Malone can be seen opening the envelope, revealing the couple was having a baby girl! The future parents seem delighted with the news, sharing the story on TikTok.

Malone recently became a father to a baby girl himself this past June.

The “White Iverson” rapper made the announcement about his bundle of joy during an appearance on Howard Stern’s show in June. Malone sat down to talk about heading to the studio, noting that he had just left from “kissing his baby girl.” Stern, in turn, questioned exactly who the rapper was talking about, wondering if it could have been his fiance.

“Nah, that’s my daughter,” Malone responded.

The rapper has been very busy lately juggling his career and being a “girl dad.” Malone is currently on tour with Roddy Ricch for his Twelve Carat Toothache Tour.

Roddy Ricch is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Harry Styles’ Wildly Successful ‘Good To Vote’ Initiative Piled Up Over 50,000 Of HeadCount’s 2022 Registered Voters

Harryween is upon us. Harry Styles’ Halloween night show at the Kia Forum is the hottest ticket in Los Angeles. Some fans started camping out weeks ago, and others entered his “Good To Vote” initiative for a chance to win Harryween tickets.

Styles partnered with HeadCount, a non-partisan and non-profit voter registration group, to encourage his fans ahead of the November 8 midterm election. Today, HeadCount shared that Styles and his “Good To Vote” sweepstakes are responsible for 54,306 voters, which is good for over a quarter of HeadCount’s 2022 voter registration total of over 190,000. The organization additionally noted that Styles’ “Good To Vote” broke a HeadCount registration record with 28,760 people in the first 24 hours. The overall 54,000-plus count makes “Good To Vote” “the No. 1 music-driven campaign in HeadCount’s 18-year history.”

Variety reported earlier this month that HeadCount was on pace to eclipse 150,000 registered voters in 2022 — blowing away the organization’s previous midterm election record of 89,000 — with help from Styles, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and more.

Styles has been on his behemoth Love On Tour since September 2021, including a 15-show Madison Square Garden residency. The British star has never been shy about using his platform, and his Love On Tour stage, to make bold political statements. Last month in Austin, Styles took a stand against the overturning of Roe v. Wade and told his audience, “No one can tell you what to do with your own body.”

Following tonight’s Harryween show, Styles has nine more Kia Forum concerts until November 15. See all his dates here.

Nicki Minaj And Her Son’s Family Halloween Costume Remakes The Poster For ‘Honey, I Blew Up The Kid’

In addition to going all-out on their Halloween costumes, rappers and singers often dress up their kids in elaborate outfits evoking pop culture mainstays like Snoop Dogg and Sade. While A-listers like Diddy, Janelle Monae, and Lizzo opted for colorful looks from the superhero, sci-fi, and animation worlds, new mom Nicki Minaj took the opportunity to play dress-up with her son, whom she’s affectionately nicknamed Papa Bear, as well as have some fun with Photoshop, a la Keke Palmer and her stunning Rogue cosplay.

In this case, Nicki reached back to the ’90s for a family costume, recreating a bit of nostalgic ephemera from her own childhood in the form of a reproduction of the movie poster for Disney’s Honey, I Blew Up The Kid. The sequel to the 1989 comic science fiction film Honey, I Shrunk The Kids went in the opposite direction of the original, turning the Szalinski family’s youngest son into a towering toddler of terror. On the poster, a child-size sneaker hovers over Rick Moranis as though he’s about to be smushed like a bug, so in Nicki’s remake, of course, it’s a massive Air Jordan. In another pic, Papa Bear rocks the red-and-yellow overalls ensemble worn by Adam Szalinski as he rampages through Las Vegas in his search for his Big Bunny toy.

Anitta And Pabllo Vittar Celebrate Brazil Electing Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva As Their Next President

Last night (October 30), Brazil elected a new president with the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Two of his biggest proponents, Brazilian superstars Anitta and Pabllo Vittar, celebrated his victory last night.

Brazil’s current president Jair Bolsonaro ran for re-election this year in a very close race with Lula da Silva, who is known by the mononym Lula. Since his election in 2018, Bolsonaro enacted many controversial policies like the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. He also downplayed the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, which led to many deaths, and spewed anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric.

Lula was previously Brazil’s president from 2003 to 2010. He ran on a leftist platform and vowed to “undo Bolsonaro’s legacy, including pro-gun policies and weakened environmental protections in the Amazon rainforest,” according to Reuters. Lula’s campaign received a big boost in July when Anitta endorsed him for president.

With Lula’s victory last night, Anitta celebrated the news on Twitter. Understanding the very close race between the candidates, she also offered empathy and compassion to the people who voted for Bolsonaro’s campaign.

“Relief,” Anitta wrote. “If love won, now it’s time to put that love into practice. Putting democracy into practice. Welcoming and respecting the neighbor who voted differently, understanding and respecting the person who voted the same as you but disagrees on some things. That’s the only way we can never live the nightmare that was that election. This social war we live. As long as we still treat the other with aggression, anger and disrespect, we will only be the mirror of what we say we are fighting against.”

She continued, “I pray for the union. The person we preferred won, but half the Brazilian people are unhappy. May we know how to think of them as we would like them to think of us regardless of any difference, regardless of whether they would do the same or not. This is unconditional love.”

Vittar also celebrated the news of Lula’s victory. On Twitter this morning, the drag pop star also expressed that she had no problem losing a follower for supporting Lula.

“My birthday isn’t until tomorrow but I already got the present,” Vittar wrote. “Losing a follower who is crying now but didn’t cry with the deaths in the pandemic. For me, it’s energy cleaning that was overdue! I don’t know what they were doing on my social media networks. 13 kisses.”

Anitta is currently nominated for two Latin Grammy awards, including Record of the Year. Vittar recently teamed up with fellow Brazilian drag pop star Gloria Groove for their collaboration “Ameianoite.”

Auburn Has Fired Coach Bryan Harsin After 21 Games

Auburn lost its fifth game of the season on Saturday, getting routed at home by Arkansas in a 41-27 loss, dropping Bryan Harsin to 9-12 in his tenure has head coach.

After narrowly surviving the offseason when boosters attempted something of an athletic department coup in order to fire Harsin and bring in a different head coach, it was assumed that he would need to orchestrate an incredible turnaround this season to save his job. Through eight games, that has clearly not happened and on Monday, Auburn announced they were firing Harsin and beginning the search process for a new head coach — without even naming Harsin in the release.

The announcement came less than an hour after John Cohen resigned from his athletic director post at Mississippi State to become the new athletic director at Auburn, as the Tigers appeared to want their new athletic department leader in place before making a change — but once they got that done they moved extremely quickly.

Harsin came to Auburn from Boise State where he had taken over for Chris Petersen and kept the Broncos rolling along as a Mountain West power, but he simply did not mesh with the folks in Auburn, Alabama and as they got surpassed by other SEC West squads over the past two years, the frustration mounted and he was unsurprisingly sent packing. The question now is who Auburn will target, because after trying their luck on an SEC outsider in Harsin, one would think they’ll look for someone from inside the SEC footprint for their next head coach.

Lane Kiffin will be a hot name after what he’s done with Ole Miss — as Auburn might be willing to dig into deep pockets to pry him away from a rival SEC school — while another former Ole Miss coach, Hugh Freeze, has been floated as a possibility for some time despite the off field headaches he produces.

Among non-former SEC coaches, Matt Rhule is suddenly available after his firing from the Panthers and his program-building expertise as shown by his time at Temple and Baylor will make him an intriguing candidate for a program that’s currently a bit in the wilderness. Deion Sanders will also get some buzz as he’s proven to be a great recruiter at Jackson State and would certainly be a splashy name for Auburn to bring in.

Kim Kardashian Pulled Out The Blue-Paint Stops In A Mystique Costume But Claimed Some Very Bad Timing

Kim Kardashian loves a good costume that causes a stir. She recently wore an iconic dress once donned by Marilyn Monroe to the Met Gala, and that turned into a ruckus with claims that she damaged the dress during those few minutes on the red carpet. This led to a Kardashian-Krafted denial, after which that controversy died down.

Onto the next costume: The X-Men franchise’s Mystique, played by both Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence over the years. The elaborate combination of bodysuits and paint translate into an outfit that I can’t believe Kardashian has not worn before now, but here we are. To that effect, she decided to live the dream, complete with yellow contact lenses, a red wig (?), and all the blue makeup that she could get her hands upon. And yes, there’s video footage happening:

Part of me wonders whether this is actually an audition for the character’s possible arrival onscreen for Marvel Studios/Disney, given that Kim also chose to tag “Marvel Universe” (hmm) as her location.

As it turns out (maybe?), Kim didn’t realize that she wasn’t supposed to deck herself out in full mutant regalia to attend Tracee Ellis Ross’ 50th birthday party. According to People, Kim also dove into her Instagram Stories in a photo with Ross, alongside this caption: “That time I showed up to a birthday dinner in full costume when it wasn’t a costume party!” So, was this an actual mistake, and does it matter? Diddy was also reportedly dressed as Joker at the same party, and he was definitely dressed as the supervillain for most of the evening.

If one holds a birthday party on Halloween weekend, costumes are to be expected.

Taylor Swift Has The No. 1 Song And Also Every Other Top-10 Entry On The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart, An All-Time First

It’s been over a week since Taylor Swift released Midnights and now we’re starting to get some data back. For one, the album just went No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with the biggest first week in seven years. Meanwhile, lead single “Anti-Hero” had the third-biggest streaming week in the history of Spotify.

Towards the end of last week, predictions (like this one and this one) said that Swift would occupy the entirety of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with songs from Midnights, an unprecedented feat. If that came to pass, it would be the first time an artist has ever owned the entire Hot 100 top 10 in one week. It turns out those predictions were correct: On the new Hot 100 chart dated November 5, Swift does indeed have all top-10 spots, led by “Anti-Hero” at No. 1.

Swift has previously shown her appreciation for how immediately successful her new album has been. On The Tonight Show last week, she told Jimmy Fallon, “I’m beside myself, really. […] The fact that the fans have done this — the breaking of the records and the going out to the stores and getting it… it’s like, you know, I’m 32, so we’re considered geriatric pop stars. They start trying to put us out to pasture at age 25. I’m just happy to be here!”

Midnights is out now via Republic. Get it here.

Ready To Elevate Your Wardrobe? Here Are The Young Streetwear Designers To Watch

Streetwear is a fashion aesthetic that stays in flux. That’s why the style has been able to stay fresh — from its origins in the late ‘80s until today. But as huge and varied a style as streetwear is, it’s still incredibly easy for the big brands like Supreme, Stüssy, Nike, and Adidas to suck up all the oxygen in the room. That’s really a shame because these gigantic brands often take their cues from more under-the-radar brands that don’t have the same global reach.

In an effort to celebrate the brands that may be off your radar but are still making cutting-edge fashion, we’re shouting out the young designers and labels that are killing it in 2022. From high-end to smaller independent brands, this crop of designers is killing it right now — oftentimes even surpassing what’s offered by the big brands with monster budgets. Most of these brands have only been around for about five years, but have been on a steady growth path. By following and supporting these designers, you’re guaranteed to come away from this article with a massively leveled-up wardrobe that is going to help you stand out no matter what sort of function you’re rolling up to.

Here are the young streetwear designers and brands to watch this decade, let’s dive in!

Circulate

Streetwear
Circulate

Circulate founder and main designer Corey Populus (aka Young Corey) lives and breathes streetwear. As a kid, Populus spent much of his time working the registers at Diamond Supply on Fairfax in Los Angeles, absorbing all he could before embarking on his own and starting Circulate. The brand began in 2018 but really found its voice during the 2020 George Floyd Protests with a new audience that resonated with Populus’ unique mix of skatewear and social messaging.

History is a running theme of Circulate, many pieces from this brand attempt to educate while celebrating cultural figures of the past, present, and future. The brand also puts a focus on quality garments made with longevity in mind, the idea being that the clothes can continue to circulate within the culture.

Deep themes and quality craftsmanship aside, the brand is just a whole lot of fun. Our favorite piece right now is a 100% cotton t-shirt featuring Rev Jesse Jackson and Marvin Gaye playing basketball. Need we really say more?

The New Blue Collar

Streetwear
The New Blue Collar

The New Blue Collar has been on our radar for a while but we can’t get enough of the way this brand is updating the idea of everyday workwear to something that resonates with the culture we actually live in.

Founded by Alex Ewings and Felix Llanos, The New Blue Collar’s main focus is on functional everyday staples that look clean, fresh, and elevated. Their current collection is varsity-inspired and consists of button-up shirts and sweaters that look like something you could wear courtside at a pick-up game in the park, back at the office, and when you hit the bars for happy hour all without the need to change.

The New Blue Collar’s expertise is in fits that can truly live in any setting. Their new Weekday Cap is another highlight. Ask yourself, has a baseball cap paired with a suit ever looked this good?

Teddy Fresh

Streetwear
Teddy Fresh

Teddy Fresh was started in 2017 by Youtuber Hila Klein (of H3h3 Productions), but honestly, the roots of the brand are the least interesting part about it. This isn’t a simple merch collection or vanity project started by wealthy YouTubers — Hila really knows her stuff and is one of the most unique designers operating in streetwear right now. Teddy Fresh makes hands down some of the best-looking modern streetwear on the market, producing quality pieces with superb craftsmanship.

The brand began with simple patchwork sweaters done up in bright pastel colors but has since expanded to a full unisex line, offering everything from dresses to jackets to tops and bottoms, all packaged in a bright pastel-heavy aesthetic that is uniquely their own. You know a Teddy Fresh piece just by looking at it, and that’s the sign of a strong brand identity.

Mr. Saturday

Streetwear
Mr. Saturday

Started by founder, designer, and creative director Joey Gollish, Mr. Saturday launched sometime in 2017 and has quietly over the years become a force in the streetwear space. Mr. Saturday is one of those few brands that seem to get stronger with every release, always pushing past what it has done before without ever losing sight of what made the brand special in the first place: quality craftsmanship and a unique merging of subcultures.

Gollish seems to enjoy exploring the nightlife subcultures of the past, whether we’re talking about groovy hippies from the psychedelic era or 90s club kids, and retranslating them through a modern lens fit for the present and future. There probably isn’t another brand that speaks more to where we are as a culture right now than Mr. Saturday.

Thames MMXX

Streetwear
Thames

Blondey McCoy is a superstar in the London skate scene, but honestly, if the skater wanted to leave it all behind for modeling or acting, he’s one of the few skaters that has the face and general vibe for it. Blondey cut his teeth riding for the Palace Wayward Boys Choir skate crew and got introduced to the fashion world via Palace’s early lookbooks before starting his own brand, Thames MMXX.

Like a lot of streetwear brands Thames started out with simple graphic t-shirts that fit the London skate aesthetic but has since experimented with everything from jackets, to vests, bags, knit sweaters, jewelry, sunglasses, and everything in between. Thames aesthetic feels like a pleasant contradiction, mixing a high fashion aesthetic with the casual wearability of skatewear. In the brand’s short existence, Thames has collaborated with heavyweights like Palace and Adidas, solidifying itself as a strong brand that still has its best days ahead of it.

Yony

Streetwear
Yony

The pandemic had a tremendous effect on the fashion industry, brands either thrived or died as the industry collectively switched to a direct-to-consumer model that prioritized fan engagement and community in a way fashion never has before. But unlike most brands, Yony actually started during the pandemic and it’s a testament to the look and power of the brand that it still exists today.

Yony is all about harkening back to a time when sourcing and craftsmanship actually mattered to the fashion industry, choosing to source all of its fabrics from the United States when possible, and cutting, sewing, washing, and dying all of its pieces in Los Angeles where the brand is headquartered.

The look of the brand is a retranslation of 50’s inspired Americana, producing pieces that look timeless while still fitting in with modern sensibilities.

Tombogo

Streetwear
Tombogo

Tombogo is one of the most unique and inspired streetwear brands out there right now. Started by the young Bay Area designer Tommy Bogo, the brand has existed in some form or another for a while now (it started as the name of an Oakland pop-up concert series), but really solidified itself as a unique fashion brand during the pandemic. With an emphasis on sustainability and unconventional fabrics and designs, Tombogo feels like a brand that is growing into itself and experimenting before our eyes.

While the general aesthetic is workwear-inspired unisex pieces, the look of Tombogo is a representation of where Tommy Bogo’s mind is at any given time, making it a brand that always feels flexible and continues to surprise with each drop. That makes Tombogo one of the most rewarding brands to follow right now, you really feel like you’re on a journey with its designer.
