In April, disturbing news emerged from the set of Being Mortal, Aziz Ansari’s first foray into directing a movie: Production had been put on hold because of a complaint. It was later revealed that the complaint involved one of the actors, Bill Murray. At the time, Murray didn’t go into specifics, only saying he “did something I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way.” Now specifics have been revealed — mere days after word broke that he’d been unprofessional with Geena Davis in a movie from over three decades ago.
Being Mortal first: Multiple sources tell Puck that Murray allegedly straddled and kissed, via masks, a “much younger” female production staffer. Murray may have thought he was being funny, but the staffer “interpreted his actions as entirely sexual” and was “horrified” by what he’d done.
The woman made an official complaint and they entered mediation and was awarded over $100,000. At the time, the film was about 50 percent done, and while the fate of the production is unknown, it was reported that it “looks like it’s headed toward cancellation rather than a reshoot.”
Now for Davis: The actress wrote about her experience filming the 1990 bank robbery comedy Quick Change, which Murray also co-directed, in her new memoir, Dying of Politeness. She talked about it in a new interview with The Times (UK), saying the troubles began when she first met him in a hotel suite, where Murray insisted on greeting her with a massage device called The Thumper. She emphatically refused, but he did it anyway.
Later, while filming on location, Murray screamed at her in her trailer for being late, even though she was waiting for her wardrobe to arrive. Even once she hurried to set, he kept screaming at her, in front of hundreds of people: cast, crew, passersby.
“That was bad,” Davis told The Times. “The way he behaved at the first meeting… I should have walked out of that or profoundly defended myself, in which case I wouldn’t have got the part. I could have avoided that treatment if I’d known how to react or what to do during the audition. But, you know, I was so non-confrontational that I just didn’t.”
After a summer packed with festivals, new albums, comebacks, and chaos, fall is settling in and artists are preparing to go out on some massive tours to bring their music to life. Though many tours have been canceled recently — Santigold, Shawn Mendes, and more due to pandemic-related struggles or otherwise — there’s no reason to fret because a ton of great shows are coming up. And it’s important to support the artists who are heading out on the road despite difficulties. Check out the most anticipated tours of fall 2022 below.
The 1975
The 1975 are preparing for the release of their new album Being Funny In A Foreign Language. They’re so devoted to playing shows that feel right and special to them that they declined an offer to open up for Ed Sheeran. Frontman Matty Healy has always been both funny and a heartthrob, so being in his presence at these shows is something you don’t want to miss.
Of course, seeing Bad Bunny is a privilege. Who doesn’t want to see Bad Bunny? I mean, did you see his performance at the VMAs? The star had one of the biggest — if not the biggest — records of this year, and he’ll be making crowds scream and anyone would be lucky to be a part of the chaos.
Beabadoobee is always a fun artist to catch. She’ll be bringing her latest album Beatopia to life on this run. The 22-year-old will be heading out onto the road at the end of October in Washington, D.C. and will wrap up in December in Boston.
If you saw Blackpink’s epic VMAs performance which featured lots of smoke and unreal dance choreography, then you know it’s essential to attend their tour. The K-Pop group unveiled their massive LP Born Pink and the new songs will be bigger than ever at these shows.
The name of the tour says it all. Charlie Puth’s One Night Only Tour is not to be missed; fans have only one chance to attend, and he’ll definitely make it worth it. He’ll be performing songs from his album Charlie, which arrives just in time for the run and for listeners to absorb the new material.
Conan Gray has been on a gigantic run to promote his newest album Superache. The LP came out in June, giving fans plenty of time to learn the words and prepare themselves for the cathartic experience. The trek kicked off in Louisville, Kentucky in September and will end in Melbourne, Australia in November.
This year was full of amazing new records and Death Cab For Cutie’s Asphalt Meadows was a highlight. The indie band has a knack for churning out some of the most resonant, touching songs that end up feeling totally timeless. The run kicked off in Madison, Wisconsin in September and it’ll be finishing off at the end of October in Seattle, Washington.
A rising artist of this year was Fred Again.. His forthcoming LP, Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 9 2022), arrives at the end of this month, and the lead single “Danielle (Smile On My Face)” was been promising. His tour is already in motion and wraps up on October 13 at New York’s Terminal 5.
Lil Nas X knows how to make everything a party. His Long Live Montero tour, whose setlist is packed with bangers, is the kind where history is made. Going is a one-chance-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It started up in September in Detroit, Michigan, and will be finishing up all the way in Barcelona, Spain in November.
I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Lizzo? Whether she’s entertaining her audience by playing an ancient flute while twerking or putting mustard on an Oreo for a TikTok, she’s always overflowing with an effervescent personality that someone would be lucky to witness live. Plus, the exuberant songs from her new record Special are the kind that are meant to dance to at a show.
Modest Mouse are celebrating the 25th anniversary of what may or may not be their best album, The Lonesome Crowded West, with a special tour. Not only will they be playing the 1997 classic in full, but they’ll be playing as a four-piece with some original members.
Omar Apollo recently released Ivory (Marfil), the expanded version of his massive debut, featuring bewitching new songs like “Highlight” and “Archetype.” His recent NPR Tiny Desk, a part of the El Tiny series, was a breath of fresh air and this tour will take that energy to the next level.
Pusha T unveiled his new album It’s Almost Dry earlier this year, and the concerts have been no joke. “i lost my prosthetic leg at your stl show,” a fan tweeted the rapper. “still had fun tho.” So proceed with caution, but also know it’s gonna be a crazy fun time.
Pop sensation Rina Sawayama is ready to bring the eclectic, fiery Hold The Girl tracks to life on her tour. Her late-night performance was full of leather mini-skirts, fire, and cowboy hats — the vibes were immaculate, and they’re going to get even better for this tour.
Steve Lacy had one of the biggest, most infectious songs of the year with “Bad Habit,” yet he’s playing relatively small rooms on this tour. The shows are sure to be intimate and special; hopefully fans appreciate the entire new LP and didn’t just come straight from the TikTok trend.
Turnstile, JPEGMafia, Snail Mail — The Turnstile Love Connection Tour
Turnstile is known for being an unpredictable group, so this eclectic lineup wasn’t too much of a surprise. The hardcore band, indie singer-songwriter, and rapper will be drawing in a chaotic crowd that will go back forth and forth from moshing and crying and dancing and swaying and it’ll be a great time the whole time through.
As usual, the NFL produced several storylines in Week 5, but perhaps none of them received more coverage than a bizarre and pivotal roughing the passer call against the Atlanta Falcons. After Atlanta defensive tackle Grady Jarrett was whistled for a preposterous penalty for gently laying Tom Brady on the ground, the Falcons eventually lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a one-score margin, and sports roundtable shows discussed the play well into Monday morning. Fewer than 30 hours later, another very strange penalty flag emerged in similar fashion when Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones tracked down Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in the second quarter on Monday.
With the Raiders leading 17-7 and driving near the end of the first half, Jones wrapped up Carr for what appeared to be a strip-sack that could swing the course of the game flow. A flag emerged and, after a long deliberation, word broke that it was for roughing the passer on Jones for landing on the quarterback with his full body weight (despite having the football himself at that point), prompting justified outrage.
Instantly, comparisons were drawn to the play involving Brady and Jarrett from Sunday. Once again, there did not seem to be anything reasonable that Jones could have done differently, and Dallas Cowboys standout Micah Parsons echoed that sentiment in real time on Twitter.
How can we play football with this shit!! Nfl speak up!!!
Dialogue was already ramping up after the Jarrett-Brady play but, with this penalty happening on Monday Night Football in front of a massive national audience, perhaps it will be an even bigger deal between now and Week 6. Of course, that doesn’t mean anything will change, but it is more than reasonable to wonder aloud how in the world this could happen twice in two days.
The NBA preseason is all about teams getting back in rhythm, warming up for the games that count, and trying to get new players acclimated to the roster. That means lots of different lineups, players starting that wouldn’t normally, and trying things out that you may (or may not) use in the regular season.
Lineup changes and new players on the roster put broadcasters and PA announcers to the test, as they have to get used to some new faces, new numbers, and maybe call out some names they never have. That can lead to some hiccups in preseason, and we got an incredibly funny one in Denver on Monday night when the Nuggets introduced their starting lineup to the home crowd.
Nikola Jokic was sitting out, which meant newly signed veteran DeAndre Jordan stepped into the starting center spot for some preseason action. The Denver PA announcer had all the details right on Jordan’s intro right up until he got to his last name, and hit a hearty “AYYYTTTOOOOONNNN” with his whole chest before realizing his error and changing it to “JOOORRRDDDAAANNN.”
The Nuggets’ reaction is hilarious, as they all are in disbelief (and laughter), with Jordan likewise shooting a hilarious look of shock over at the scorer’s table. It’s preseason for everybody, but you can bet the PA guy won’t live this down soon from the Nuggets players.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, singer Greyson Chance revealed he felt “completely abandoned” after signing to Ellen Degeneres‘ record label back in 2010. Degeneres, who launched eleveneleven records that year, also signed Charlie Puth around that time. In another interview with Rolling Stone Puth, who had recorded a demo EP under the label, also shared that he felt ghosted by Degeneres and her team.
“We both have different experiences, me versus Greyson,” he said. “But I do agree with him that no one was present, certainly, after the creation of my first demo EP. Not putting any blame on one person, but from a collective… All the people that were in that room, they just disappeared. I didn’t hear from anybody.”
While Puth may not have had the best experience under Degeneres’ label, he said the comedian and former talk show host was always pleasant toward him.
“People describe Ellen as rude,” he said. “I’ve never experienced that. Maybe she likes me.”
His career would take off years later, with his appearance on Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” from the Furious 7 soundtrack in 2015. He admits he is thankful that he didn’t come to fame right away, as he doesn’t have much confidence in those early recordings.
“I don’t know how good they are,” he said.

The Charlotte Hornets enter the 2022-23 season with modest expectations, even after reaching the Play-In last season. Still, there remains a great deal of positivity surrounding LaMelo Ball, and the talented guard is the clear centerpiece of Charlotte’s plans, both in the present and future. On Monday evening, the Hornets welcomed a Southeast Division rival to Charlotte for a preseason game in the form of the Washington Wizards and, in the third quarter, Ball was forced to exit the game with a left ankle sprain.

Ankle sprains are notoriously difficult to peg, as some require only a very brief absence (or none at all), with others taking weeks to heal. As such, it is too early to speculate on any potential timeline for Ball, but he appeared to be in pain and there was no reason whatsoever for the Hornets to even consider reinserting him into the game in a preseason setting.
Ball averaged 20.1 points, 7.6 assists, and 6.7 rebounds per game last season, and he just turned 21 years old in August. While there is room for improvement on the defensive end and elsewhere, Ball is a budding star and, simply put, the Hornets project to rely on him heavily when constructing their offense. Veteran guard Terry Rozier would be in line for even more usage if Ball were to miss time, but the Hornets can ill afford to be without Ball for any extended period, and Charlotte opens its regular season schedule with a road game against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
On the other side, the Wizards likewise saw a star go down with an ankle injury when Kristaps Porzingis came up limping after a Eurostep layup attempt.

It’s not a great time for comics. Chris Rock got slapped on live television by a guy who was 20 minutes from winning an Oscar. Not long after, Dave Chappelle was knocked down by an audience member. This weekend, an up-and-coming comic, Ariel Elias, was attacked when a heckler threw a beer can at her during a set. Elias’ reaction was priceless: Not only did she avoid getting hit, but she grabbed the can and downed its contents. Video of the incident went viral, and now Elias may be making her late night debut.
After the incident went public, comedians far and wide rallied around Elias. One of them was Jimmy Kimmel, who was so taken by Elias’ quick thinking and crack timing that he tweeted, “five stars for this flawless performance.” Elias took advantage of the good fortune, writing back, “Can I make my late night debut on your show?” Kimmel wrote back, “definitely.”
Soon Deadlineconfirmed that that the late night host’s team is already in contact with Elias and working on a date to bring her on.
The incident happened at Uncle Vinnie’s Comedy Club in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. Elias was doing a Q&A as part of her act, and one of the attendees asked her if she voted for Trump.
“Why would you ask me that question when you know I’m the only Jew in the room?” Elias replied. “Are you trying to get me killed?”
The woman snapped back, “I can tell by your jokes that you voted for Biden.”
To which Elias replied, “I can tell by the fact that you’re still talking when nobody wants you to that you voted for Trump.” Her joke earned widespread applause.
A few seconds later, someone threw a beer can at Elias. She’s shocked, but she soon regains her senses, picks it up, and chugs its remaining liquid.
According to the club’s owner, it wasn’t the woman who threw the can at Elias but her husband, who then fled the scene. The club is pressing charges against him. “I’m not,” Elias said, “because in order to do that, I would have to return to Point Pleasant Beach, and I’m not doing that unless someone pays me to.”
Elias’ ability to neutralize a febrile situation earned praise from colleagues.
Ariel wasn’t even doing political material. The drunk heckler was craving what every MAGAt craves — grievance and revenge. And they’ll alter the reality before their eyes to get it. “You SOUND like you voted for Biden.” https://t.co/rDCF9Cmoc1
For all y’all who want to make fun of comics for saying we didn’t sign up to be physically attacked and put on a pedestal, take a peekie poo. @Ariel_Comedy you’re a class act. https://t.co/dJSahKnJDL
Elias has been covered by The New York Times, who in 2020 — in a piece about comedians performing outdoors in the early days of the pandemic — called “a sly young comic from Kentucky.” Her wesbite is here.
It looks like Jermaine Dupri and Diddy are set to take the stage in a Verzuz facedown. During a performance at ONE Music Fest in Atlanta, GA, JD, the So So Def founder announced that he is planning to face Diddy, the Bad Boy founder, in a Verzuz live stream competition.
“I’m saying this to let y’all know the So So Def Bad Boy Verzuz is happening,” said JD.
Since its launch in 1993, So So Def has produced records by some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Jagged Edge, Anthony Hamilton, Bow Wow, and Da Brat. Bad Boy, which also launched in 1993, has been home to artists like The Notorious B.I.G., 112, Mase, Machine Gun Kelly, 8Ball & MJG, Janelle Monae, and more.
JD and Diddy have long teased a Verzuz battle, however, In an interview with on the Rory And Mal podcast last year, JD said that a facedown may not work, due to the fact that one of Bad Boy’s original artists is no longer with us.
“I feel like it’s a performance-based thing now and the majority of Puff’s records, who’s gonna perform?,” JD said. “Yeah…The LOX, but you can’t have nobody do Big’s verses! And I don’t know that Mase would come out with him no more, so I don’t think that it would happen based on that. All my people, we rockin’ and we coming with a whole lot of energy!”
As of now, there is no set date for So So Def and Bad Boy’s Verzuz stream.

WhenThe Young Pope premiered in 2016, it seemed like there were few weirder shows. Then it got a follow-up. Called The New Pope, it brought in (that’s right) a new pope (John Malkovich) to replace the old young pope (Jude Law), who had suffered a coma. Eventually he woke up, and there were two popes. Then there was another, final twist. Where to go next? Is there anywhere to go? You may get to find out.
In an interview with Deadline (in a bit teased out by Yahoo!), producer Lorenzo Mieli — whose credits include both Popes as well as Luca Guadagnino’s new Bones and All— briefly, very briefly mentioned that Paolo Sorrentino, the shows’ creator, wasn’t done with the world of Catholic Church honchos who are into things like smoking and punk rock.
“There is an idea that Paolo has that maybe is going to happen. The third and last,” Mieli revealed.
That’s it! It would be tough to top the first two series, which featured such unexpected incidents as a kangaroo getting murdered in the Vatican gardens and Diane Keaton as a basketball-playing nun. But we’ll be Sorrentino and company have it in them to push the envelope in even weirder directions.
Mieli also talked about the genesis of The Young Pope, and it’s pretty perfect. “He brought me an idea about a pope, an American pope, that smokes cigarettes. That was the pitch, and I said fantastic,” he said. “That seemed to me a very good pitch.” Seriously, what else do you need?
Stevie Nicks is encouraging fans to get involved in the upcoming midterm elections. Today (October 10), the Fleetwood Mac lead vocalist took to Instagram to express her worries for the younger generations.
“At 74 years old, I can honestly say that I am worried about every one of you,” Nicks said. “Worried about health care, and just in general, worried about your God given rights. You must gather together now. You must register to vote as soon as you can (for many of you the deadline is tomorrow, October 11th!) and you must vote!”
In her post, Nicks also wrote a poem called Get It Back, in which, she warns of the dangers that will take place if fans don’t use their voices and utilize their rights to vote.
I have my scars
You have yours
Don’t let them
Take your power
Don’t leave it alone
In the final hours
They’ll take your soul
They’ll take your power
Don’t close your eyes and hope for teh best
The dark is out there
The light is going fast
And all the rights you had yesterday
Are taken away
And now you’re afraid
You should be afraid
Because everything I fought for
Long ago in a dream — is gone
The dream is not over, the dream has just begun
Or is it a nightmare?
Or a lasting scar
It is —
Unless you save it
And that’s that
Unless you stand up
And take it back
Try to see the future
And get mad
It’s slipping through your fingers
You don’t know what you had
You don’t have much time
Get it back
Nicks says revealed she plans to share the poem in song format at some point in the future.
