While diving deep into the problematic nature of museums and their penchant for looting artifacts, John Oliver cited an unlikely hero in the effort to stop the fraudulent sale of pilfered items: Kim Kardashian. During Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight, Oliver revealed a tale about how a photo of Kardashian at the 2018 MET Gala inadvertently led to the collapse of an art fraud scheme.
As the late night host tells it, Kardashian wore an all gold dress that coincidentally happened to match an all-gold coffin of the Egyptian Nedjemankh that was in the process of being purchased by the MET Museum. Kardashian was invited to snap a photo next to the coffin, which naturally, bounced all over the internet thanks to her intense viral fame. However, an anonymous tipster recognized the coffin and informed international authorities that had it been looted. With the MET Museum alerted, it scuttled the $4 million sale all thanks to the publicity from Kardashian.
The late-night show’s episode continued to focus on dealers not doing their proper research when acquiring art pieces that are, a lot of times, stolen. Oliver took another jab at Kardashian when he noted that museums couldn’t just sit back and not do research and wait “until Kim Kardashian takes a photograph in front of one of our objects and we’re humiliated on the international stage. This cannot be all her responsibility, she’s too busy revolutionizing shape wear.”
Oliver also got in a self-deprecating jab by showing a picture of himself next to Kardashian and quipping, “the woman has a real knack for producing incredible images just by standing next to men that look like they died a long time ago.”
You can watch the Kim Kardashian segment at the 23:45 mark below:
Kanye West recently made his catwalk debut as a surprise model for Balenciaga’s show at Paris Fashion Week. West wore a baseball cap, black jacket, and shiny pants, with the word “Security” hanging as a tag from the coat. As the show’s statement (via Rain), Balenciaga’s creative director Demna said he has “decided to no longer explain my collections and verbalize my designs, but to express a state of mind.”
In a video uploaded to YouTube of the company’s S/S 2023 collection, West appears to open the show. He trudges through a muddy runway, which was intended to resemble a war-like battlefield. “Fashion is a visual art and all we need is for it to be seen through someone’s eyes.,” Demna also noted about the show’s setting. “Fashion in its best-case scenario should not need a story to be sold to someone. You either like it or not. The set of this show is a metaphor for digging for truth and being down to earth. Let us let everyone be anyone and make love not war.”
While West’s model appearance was a surprise, he wasn’t alone as the only A-list celebrity at the luxury designer’s show. Kylie Jenner and Khloé Kardashian were both seated as VIP guests, along with Anna Wintour, Doja Cat, Charli XCX, Offset, and many more.
Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.
This week saw Freddie Gibbs drop off a well-received project and Paramore launch their highly anticipated comeback. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.
Freddie Gibbs — “Feel No Pain” Feat. Anderson .Paak and Raekwon
Gibbs’ new album Soul Sold Separately received a lot of immediate praise and for good reason. It’s a really strong project, as evidenced by tracks like “Feel No Pain,” a smooth new song featuring assists from Anderson .Paak and Raekwon.
Paramore — “This Is Why”
Hayley Williams has been preoccupied with her solo career in recent years, but now she’s back with her Paramore bandmates and together, they’re preparing to drop a new album, This Is Why. They offered the first taste of the LP last week with the title track, an at-times atmospheric and at-times rocking tune that sounds like the start of something dynamic and fantastic.
Smino and J. Cole — “90 Proof”
Smino’s much-anticipated third album Luv 4 Rent is on the way and J. Cole gave the project his blessing by featuring on it, on last week’s “90 Proof.” Uproxx’s Aaron Williams notes of the tune, “Smino sing-raps a soulful confessional to a woman he’s been keeping at arm’s length, while J. Cole goes full speed ahead detailing his own authenticity.”
Kid Cudi and Don Toliver — “Somewhere To Fly”
We should enjoy Kid Cudi while we have him because Scott Mescudi sounds like he’s just about over doing stuff under his long-time performing name. If he is hanging the Cudi name up, he’s going out with a bang on his latest project, Entergalactic. It’s both a TV special and an album, featuring songs like the spacey and thumping Don Toliver collab “Somewhere To Fly.”
Yeah Yeah Yeahs — “Wolf”
It’s been nearly ten years since Yeah Yeah Yeahs dropped their fourth album, 2013’s Mosquito. After much time away, the group finally returned last week with a fifth album, Cool It Down. It’s a welcomed return thanks to songs like “Wolf,” which spans eras with its ’80s aesthetic and ’00s rock edge that sound at home here in 2022.
DDG — “9 Lives” Feat. Polo G and NLE Choppa
DDG had one of the week’s biggest rap releases with It’s Not Me It’s You, and from where he is now, he looks back at where he came from on “9 Lives.” Polo G and NLE Choppa join DDG on the track, with all three taking time to reflect on their various pasts.
Roddy Ricch — “Stop Breathing”
Ricch’s mixtape Feed Tha Streets 3 is on the way and he teased it last week with “Stop Breathing.” The tune is a quick-hitter, clocking in at shy of two minutes, on which the rapper offers some insight into the luxurious lifestyle he leads: “Look out the window, what do I see? / A couple yachts, they got some thots that trot the seven seas.”
Baby Tate — “Perfect”
Tate popped up last week with a fresh mixtape, Mani/Pedi, which kicks off with “Perfect.” Over a bass-heavy instrumental, Tate starts with a dictionary definition of the titular word before offering her own meaning (“well, me”), only getting more self-congratulatory from there on the fun tune.
Tate McRae — “Uh Oh”
Speaking of Tates, McRae is making her way towards the top of the pop world: Her debut album, I Used to Think I Could Fly, came out back in May and managed to peak at No. 13 in the US, nothing to dismiss for a first LP. She’s not letting that stop her hustle, as last week brought a new tune, “Uh Oh,” which sees McRae singing over a hip-hop-inspired instrumental.
Shygirl — “Shlut”
After making a name for herself in various ways in recent years, UK favorite Shygirl finally has a debut album under her belt with last week’s Nymph. She prefaced the project with a visualizer for “Shlut,” which starts out sounding like an alt/indie/electronic track before morphing into a full-on rap track, another example of Shygirl’s exemplary versatility.

The Big Bang Theory, the inspiration for Nandor’s favorite slot machine, premiered 15 years ago last month. In honor of the occasion, author Jessica Radloff wrote an oral history, The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, in which she spoke to the show’s producers and cast, including Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki.
It was known that they dated from 2008 to 2010, not unlike their fictional Big Bang counterparts, Penny and Leonard, but they didn’t discuss the relationship with any depth until speaking to Radloff for the book. “I had a very big crush on Johnny early on. I was so not even hiding it. He has such swagger. We were both dating people at the time, but I only had eyes for Johnny,” Cuoco said in an excerpt published by Vanity Fair.
The first time Penny and Leonard kissed in a season one episode was also the first time Cuoco and Galecki locked lips. “I knew I looked real cute in that outfit, so I was feeling really good about myself,” the Harley Quinn star said (she wore a “sexy cat” costume in the Halloween episode). “And I knew he thought I looked cute because he commented on how cute I looked in that outfit earlier. But I was definitely nervous before that kiss.” Galecki added, “I mean, Kaley Cuoco as a kitty cat? Come on!”
Later in the season, they filmed a scene in an elevator together, which is when “we fell a little in love,” Cuoco said (who didn’t have a crush on David Healy?). “I was like, ‘Uh‑oh.’ I was crushing so hard on him. So much so that I was like, ‘Get me out of here,’ because he had to hold me up and we had to do this really close thing. Even my cheeks were red.”
As for why they kept the relationship private, Cuoco said it’s because “Johnny was very worried about ruining the fans’ outlook on Leonard and Penny, because they weren’t even dating yet at that point in the series.” She also made it clear that they never had sex in their dressing rooms. “Absolutely f*cking not,” she continued. “Not a chance in hell. I wouldn’t do that. I’m not in the mile-high club.” Only on The Flight Attendant.
After Marvel dropped the epic first look at Black Panther: Wakanda Forever thanks to a show-stopping trailer that brought down the house at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, the biggest question on fans’ minds is who took up the mantle of the Wakanda hero now that T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is dead. We now have a very solid guess.
On Monday, Marvel Studios unveiled the official trailer for Wakanda Forever that leans hard into the brewing conflict between the African nation and Namor (Tenoch Huerta). The ruler of the seas has unleashed war on the surface world, and his vast underwater army is clearly up to the task. However, standing between them is the people of Wakanda who are still grieving from the loss of their kings.
With war arriving on their shores, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) is doing everything in her power to stave off this new threat. From enlisting the aid of a brilliant young inventor, Riri Williams (Dominque Thorne), who will become the Marvel hero Ironheart, to passing on the Black Panther mantle. In the previous trailer, Marvel fans were given a brief look at a new Panther unleashing their claws on the beach to confront Namor. In this latest look, the studio may have revealed that Shuri (Letitia Wright) will follow in the footsteps of her comic book counterpart and become the Black Panther.
Shuri would be a bold, but not unprecedented choice, that we look forward to seeing when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (and its mammoth runtime) brings the long-awaited war with Namor that Marvel fans have been itching for.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever opens in theaters on November 11.
Paramore is fully committed to their comeback. Last week, lead vocalist Hayley Williamsshared with fans that she “would not be be ready to give myself back to the band and the music and the life that I love so much had we not voluntarily given it up for a season.” The band’s four-year hiatus included putting their beloved track “Misery Business” on the shelf. That changed last night (October 2) during the first show of Paramore’s 12-date North American tour in Bakersfield, California, when Paramore performed “Misery Business” for the first time since September 2018.

Paramore has officially brought “Misery Business” out of retirement.
The group previously announced in 2018 that they would no longer perform the track live due to complaints that some of its lyrics were “anti-feminist.” pic.twitter.com/PakdB1PCNb
According to BuzzFeed at the time, Williams told the 2018 crowd in Nashville, “Tonight we’re playing this song for the last time for a really long time. This is a choice that we’ve made because we feel that we should. We feel like it’s time to move away from it for a little while.”
Williams had previously taken to Tumblr in 2015 to air conflicted feelings over “Misery Business,” sparked by fan comments questioning her position as a feminist. The 2007 Riot! lead single includes the lyric, “Once a wh*re, you’re nothing more, I’m sorry,” in the second verse. (In relation to Williams’s and Paramore’s validity as feminists 15 years later, they announced in July that $1 of every ticket sold for this fall US tour will go toward ARC Southeast, providing “funding and logistical support to ensure Southerners receive safe and compassionate reproductive care,” per the organization’s official website.)
The Bakersfield show marks the first time Paramore has played “Misery Business” in four years, but Williams joined Billie Eilish‘s headlining Coachella set to give a surprise acoustic duet of the song in April.
Earlier this year, Britney Spears signed a major deal with Simon & Schuster for her debut memoir, with the sale at an estimated $15 million — according to Page Six (via The Guardian). In the months since, Spears has shared more details about what she’s including in the tell-all book, including in a recent Instagram post.
While the post’s caption discussed more of Spears’ thoughts on her family’s lack of accountability for her lengthy conservatorship, she closes it with a teaser about having not one, but several different memoir versions. “Psss I’ve written 3 different versions of my book and had LOTS of therapy through the process … was it worth it ???? Not so sure … Here’s to a new day,” she said.
Spears has shared some thoughts on her book through her other Instagram captions, including a now-deleted one (via Nylon) from April where she references her sister Jamie Lynn’s own memoir, which dropped earlier this year. “So sorry if I’ve offended anyone by writing these stories,” Spears said. “But just as my sister can legally mention my name in her book over 200 times, cry on tv, and get a heartfelt ‘awww’ from most, I also have the right to share a couple paragraphs on Instagram. Anyways, Godspeed my friends.”
In July, TMZhad reported that while Spears and Simon & Schuster originally intended for her memoir to release in January 2023, the paper shortage is delaying its official publication. A new official release date has yet to be announced, along with details on the title and other memoir info.
Jason Bateman has had prominent TV roles at various points in his life, whether it’s childhood parts on shows like Silver Spoons and The Hogan Family, playing Michael Bluth on the beloved comedy series Arrested Development, or starring in the recently concluded drama Ozark. Whatever endeavor you first knew Bateman from, the fact is that he’s been in show business for a long time.
The actor was a guest on Friday’s (September 30) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where the host decided to have some fun with Bateman’s longevity: Kimmel rattled off a list of random names of celebrities, mostly from the ’80s, to see how many of them Bateman knew, which yielded an interesting Michael Jackson story.
Towards the end of the segment, Kimmel named Jackson and Bateman said, “Ricky Schroder and I almost ran over Michael Jackson with our bicycles,” which got a desk-pounding laugh from Kimmel. Bateman continued, “This was while we were doing Silver Spoons in Universal and we’d need to have our bikes because kids gotta play. And Michael was there to see him.”
At that point, Bateman trailed off and gave an uneasy gesture to the audience, presumably a nod to the child sexual abuse allegations made against the singer. Bateman continued, “I don’t… listen, hey! He was a fan of the show and a fan of the Ricker! He was coming onto the stage while we were zooming off and almost took him down.”
If Kim Kardashian ever wants to make a sequel to her Kim Kardashian: Hollywood mobile game, Kim Kardashian: Crypto Criminal has a nice ring to it. The model and law school grad has been fined $1.26 million by the SEC for promoting a cryptocurrency asset without disclosing that she had been paid for the promotion. “Kardashian agreed to settle the charges, pay $1.26 million in penalties, disgorgement, and interest, and cooperate with the Commission’s ongoing investigation,” the SEC wrote in a statement.
Kardashian failed to disclose that she was paid $250,000 to publish a post on her Instagram account about EMAX tokens, the crypto asset security being offered by EthereumMax. Kardashian’s post linked to the EthereumMax website, which provided instructions for potential investors to purchase EMAX tokens.
I don’t know what the SEC’s problem is. Everything about this looks super legit:
instagram
“This case is a reminder that, when celebrities or influencers endorse investment opportunities, including crypto asset securities, it doesn’t mean that those investment products are right for all investors,” said SEC Chair Gary Gensler. “We encourage investors to consider an investment’s potential risks and opportunities in light of their own financial goals.” He added, “Ms. Kardashian’s case also serves as a reminder to celebrities and others that the law requires them to disclose to the public when and how much they are paid to promote investing in securities.”
Kardashian will now go back to making money the ol’ fashioned way: selling crotchless catsuits.
