Goran Dragic Turned Down The Mavs Because He Didn’t Want A ‘Cheerleading Role’

When the Mavs entered this offseason, the prevailing expectation was that Goran Dragic would finally land in Dallas as a free agent after years of the Mavs having reported interest in landing the Slovenian mentor of their budding superstar, Luka Doncic.

Dragic and Doncic’s close relationship has been well documented and the two were even spending this summer playing together for the Slovenian national team, but when the time came for Dragic to decide on his new home, he chose the Chicago Bulls over the Mavericks, which surprised many — including Dallas fans who have wanted Dragic in town for some time. It was hard for many to figure out why the Mavs wouldn’t have been in on Dragic talks, especially with him taking a one-year deal for the minimum.

The reason Dragic is in Chicago and not Dallas isn’t that the Mavs wouldn’t offer him a deal, but that the role they were extending was not what Dragic wanted. In an interview with Slovenian newspaper Vecer, Dragic explained that Dallas had offered him a “cheerleading role,” that would’ve seen him play sparingly, while the Bulls were offering him the chance to play 20 or more minutes a night — via a translation from Matej Sportinfo on Twitter (h/t Mavs Moneyball).

That certainly makes sense for Dragic, as he’s clearly not ready to completely fade to the background as a player and just be in a mentor type role. For Mavs fans, it will be frustrating to find out this was the difference in him being in Dallas and not, particularly given they don’t currently have a clear initiator off the bench with Jalen Brunson leaving town. Frank Ntilikina provides a strong defensive option at point guard off the bench, but aside from Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie, they’re lacking in strong offensive options. While Dragic may not be what he once was, he is still a capable offensive threat and to tell him they couldn’t guarantee him regular minutes seems rather strange, and if Dallas finds itself on the hunt for more point guard help during the season, fans will not be thrilled with how Dragic slipped through their fingers.

Martin Lawrence Swears ‘At Least’ One More ‘Bad Boys’ Is Being Made, Even After That Whole Oscars Slap Thing

Bad Boys for Life was highest grossing American film of 2020, which is less of an achievement when you note the year was 2020. A fourth in the franchise was obviously a no-brainer, and it was already in pre-production when a little incident happened. Ever since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on live television during this year’s Oscars, all his projects were put on hold, Bad Boys 4 included. But now we have…well, something like an update.

In a recent cover story by Ebony (as caught by Deadline), Lawrence discusses the 30th anniversary of Martin, his beloved Fox sitcom, as well as finally nabbing a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There isn’t much mention of the co-star of three of his biggest big screen hits: his Bad Boys partner Will Smith. But he does seem pretty sure that another is coming, despite…well, all that.

“We got one more, at least,” Lawrence confidently says.

Is this an insider revealing that Hollywood is baby-stepping their way into accepting Smith back into the fold? Perhaps! (Though he is still banned from the Academy Awards ceremony until the early 2030s.) Smith will have to start his comeback eventually, and what would be a safer way to do that than returning to the franchise that took him (and Lawrence) from TV stars to movie stars?

Fans Made ‘Stranger Things’ Star Joseph Quinn Cry (In A Good Way) At London Comic-Con

For the first time in history, a fan has taken the mic at a convention to say they had “more of a statement than a question,” without it being an absolute calamity. In fact, it brought the house down.

According to tweets gathered by Buzzfeed, staff at the London Film and Comic-Con treated Stranger Things Joseph Quinn rudely when he interacted with fans of his character, Hellfire Club leader Eddie Munson. With too many fans overbooked for signatures, the staff forcefully told Quinn not to talk at all, even though he was having a good time engaging with those who’d paid anywhere from $45 to $125 to see him.

The next day during an open Q&A, a fan named Kimberley Burrows offered the not-a-question that brought Quinn to tears.

“Mine’s not really a question, it’s just more an extension of gratitude,” she said. “A lot of us have heard of what happened yesterday, whether it’s true or not, about how you were treated. I really want to say, we’re really grateful that you’re sharing your time. Thank you for signing our things, for spending time with us and making our summer. I think we’ve all connected to Eddie for one reason or another. Whether we like his taste in music, or that he’s the outsider. I think all of us are a part of Eddie. We’ve travelled far because we really connected with you as well and you made our weekend.”

Rock on, Kimberley. Eddie Munson forever.

‘Barbie’ Update: Is Ryan Gosling’s Ken A Millennial?

While hyping his new spy action thriller The Gray Man in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ryan Gosling gave a vital update on the internal workings of the living doll he’s playing in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Yes, Lars is finally a real doll. (I am so sorry.) Anyway, here’s Gosling shedding a little light on the vibrantly mysterious project:

“That Ken life is even harder than the Gray Man life, I think,” Gosling said. “Ken’s got no money, he’s got no job, he’s got no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff.”

In other words, he’s a millennial. “Going through some stuff” is the generation’s watchword. It’s also highly possible that, because of his current money-job-car-house status, Ken is full-on Kato Kaelining Margot Robbie‘s Barbie. Just like many real-life millennials, he’s probably splitting rent with his peers and working a side hustle selling throwback plastic friendship bracelets on Etsy in order to save up for a retirement that will never, ever come.

Gosling also joked that he’s got “that Ken-ergy,” which may be the only time he’s ever said something cringeworthy in his entire career.

Barbie is currently filming and is currently set for release next summer, so you’ve got a full year to prepare your eyes for apocalyptic levels of PINK.

TikToker Tries To Expose Kehlani After Their Starbucks Drive Thru Altercation And She Wasn’t Having It

Starbucks is a place where people go to get their caffeine fix, meet up with colleagues, or simply get away from the madness of the world. But on Wednesday, viral TikToker Christian Williams and Kehlani showed that it’s a place where altercations can take place, though both sides seem to view the situation a bit differently.

Christian Walker posted a video of himself to Twitter which finds him yelling at the Blue Water Road artist for allegedly telling baristas that he is an “a******” and to be safe around him. He even gets out of the car and walks up to their window to repeat what he says while the 27-year-old simply laughs and shows their phone to the camera. Unbeknownst to Walker, Kehlani was actually on a virtual therapy session, which she confirms in a full explanatory video later on and sensibly shows why they handled the situation so calmly, on top of the journey toward peace and bliss they have been on for the last few years. However, this isn’t the full story.

Kehlani later addressed the matter in their own video, saying they were ahead of Christian Walker in the drive-thru line but heard how he was was “losing his sh**” as he filmed the myriad of flags in Starbucks and berated the workers before it was his turn to order. They went on to say he has a history of harassing people within that community — a community he also identifies with — and they simply trying to warn the staff of impending drama. She even confirmed that he did not post the full altercation, where he called her a “b****.”

The most humorous part is that Kehlani also shared a screenshot to her Instagram story of Christian Walker tweeting back in 2016 how he loves them so much despite calling them a “mediocre singer that everyone forgot about” in Wednesday’s video post. The icing on the cake is their Instagram selfie with a kissy face saying “Therapy works babes I’m proof.” In the face of a viral moment that could reflect poorly on them, Kehlani proved those words to be true.

Watch Christian Walker’s video and Kehlani’s subsequent analysis above.

Kehlani is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Styles P Cussed Out Cops Arresting A Woman Outside His Juice Bar In Yonkers

It goes without saying that cops are highly distrusted by many communities, namely the Black community, due in part to their wrongful arrests and murders over the last near-decade. While hope for change in this regard is all but lost, people also fear speaking up and potentially becoming the next person we mourn. Thankfully, Styles P is not one of those people. Yesterday, a video of The LOX member spewing profanities at cops aggressively handling a woman outside of his juice bar, Juices For Life, surfaced on TikTok.

Styles can be heard calling one of the cops a “whole b****,” encouraging the woman to loosen up for fear of injury, and calling another cop “a f****** hoe.” As one of the officers approached the rapper, he assured the cop he would back up and not to touch him. “You slammed a girl! For no reason,” he stated and even pointed out that one of the cops was reaching for his gun as they attempted to arrest the woman. Thankfully the situation did not escalate into anything more.

https://www.instagram.com/stylesp/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=87b1047d-852a-4b4d-86ba-4c4ccba8418d

Upon the TikTok going viral, Styles P later took to his Instagram to address the situation. He admitted he got hot-headed but did not excuse the cops for their use of force, especially against a woman. “I don’t hate cops, I hate the mistreatment of poor people,” Styles said. “I hate mistreatment of poor Black people. I hate the mistreatment of poor Spanish people. Even poor white people in the hood, I hate the fact that it’s easy to throw cops in the neighborhood that’ll get a benefit, a salary with a bunch of people that they have no idea how it works.”

He even broadened the issue to the system at large, saying he doesn’t want to see the cops lose their job. Styles P is just one of many to acknowledge the flawed justice system, and while his influence may not be enough to make change any time soon, he at least stood his ground outside of his beloved establishment.

Whoopi Goldberg Got So Mad At A Texas Newspaper That Leaked Uvalde Footage That She Spat On The ‘View’ Stage

On Tuesday, a newspaper in Texas, the Austin American-Statesman, made a controversial decision: They leaked footage from inside the Robb Elementary hallways during the mass shooting in Uvalde last month. The paper’s Ethics & Standards editor defended the decision, arguing it was in the public’s interest (while noting they removed the audio), in part because not enough has been done to investigate it. Parents of the victims, however, weren’t buying it.

Neither was Whoopi Goldberg. As per Entertainment Weekly, the co-host of The View spent part of Tuesday’s show railing against the paper’s decision, and she got so mad she literally spit.

“I find it indefensible,” she said. “I’m sorry, you forgot that, attached to all those sounds are people’s children, and you didn’t have to do this. They were going to see this video on Sunday, you did not have to release this and leak it. I think it’s appalling and you should be ashamed of yourselves for doing that, for being thoughtless about the parents who have to relive this every day because it’s on television every time you turn around.”

It was at this point that she turned and spat on the stage, then continued. “I don’t know if you guys over at that newspaper have kids, but, shame on you. I know it doesn’t mean anything coming from me, but shame on you,” she said.

Co-host Sunny Hostin was a bit more diplomatic, arguing that the leak was part of a “difficult balancing act.” She added, “It’s so important that we be able to, as the public… videos, in my view, lead to just results, increased training, awareness, it can really change the public narrative.”

But Goldberg wasn’t budging, pointing out that the paper didn’t inform the parents of their decision, or give them “the opportunity to re-steel themselves.”

Goldberg has often used her pulpit to address hot button issues. After the Supreme Court went on a tear of radical rulings, she warned Clarence Thomas that those in his party may one day come for his interracial marriage as well. She’s also railed against Fox News host Laura Ingraham for absurdly blaming mass shootings on weed.

Where To Eat, Drink, Sleep, And Explore In Albuquerque, New Mexico

I started traveling solo in New Mexico nearly a decade ago. And to be honest, at that time, I really didn’t know what to expect. The only thought I really had about it was, “So, it’s just, like… a desert?” Then I visited on a whim as a stopover between my home in Colorado and a destination further West, in Arizona. Reader, I fell in love.

These days, I always say, “there’s something special about the Land of Enchantment.” And the ABQ is no exception.

While I consider myself to be nearing an expert-level solo traveler status in the dreamy locales of Taos and Santa Fe in Northern New Mexico, Albuquerque is a whole different new beast. As a creature of habit, I didn’t want my love affair with the state to somehow be spoiled by visiting a larger city – Albuquerque is home to over 40% of the state’s residents after all. But just like my first visit to New Mexico all those years ago, a recent trip to ABQ delighted me.

Georgia O’Keeffe, a famous – if not the most famous – New Mexico resident, once said, “If you ever go to New Mexico, it will itch you for the rest of your life.” She couldn’t have been more right. Here’s my guide for a weekend spent in Albequerque.

PART I — Eat

mas tapas y vino
Emily Hart

The goal of spending a long weekend in Albuquerque was to explore the town, but I mostly ended up spending my time eating. Each meal somehow seemed to outdo the last, with unexpected pairings of flavors and fresh ingredients – nothing like the Southwestern food I imagined.

My favorite meal – maybe ever, if I’m being honest – was at Mas Tapas Y Vino. Located in the historic downtown Hotel Andaluz, Mas Tapas Y Vino reimagines traditional Spanish cuisine using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. I tried several small plates and each was better than the last. The blue corn sourdough with Moroccan whipped butter was simple, but something I am still dreaming about weeks later.

Some other standouts were the crispy Brussels sprouts, honey bacon wrapped dates, Berkshire pork belly, and the lobster tail pasta.

el pinto
Emily Hart

For a more traditional dining experience, I headed to El Pinto – a restaurant and salsa company that brings all the New Mexican vibes. A family business and destination dining since 1964, El Pinto has five patios on twelve acres – and even a waterfall – to enjoy your margarita and taco plate.

I also love visiting The Grove Cafe for brunch – where my basic avocado toast order was anything but, and Sawmill Market, a warehouse food hall downtown with 20+ eateries and bars to keep anyone satisfied.

PART II — Drink

Bow and Arrow Brewing

Emily Hart

Emily Hart

When I was waiting in the Denver airport for my early flight to Albuquerque I saw a couple of very stylish women waiting nearby. They both had shirts emblazoned with the Bow and Arrow Brewing logo, and as someone who is admittedly heavily influenced by stylish people – I knew I had to add it to my itinerary.

I’m so glad I did. Bow and Arrow Brewing – besides having a great atmosphere and even better beer – is the country’s first Native American Woman-Owned brewery. Founded by Shyla Sheppard, a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa & Arikara Nation) and Dr. Missy Begay, who was raised in the Navajo (Diné) Nation – Bow and Arrow uses traditional local and indigenous ingredients in their beers – from blue corn to prickly pear and juniper.

I enjoyed a glass of Hazy Rodeo IPA with my book at the taproom, reminding myself to always leave room for detours.

Noisy Water Winery
Emily Hart

Whenever I am in New Mexico I try to visit a new winery (or two or three). Home to over 40 wineries, the state has quite a burgeoning scene. On this trip, I visited three wineries – and even visited one twice. Noisy Water Winery and Sheehan Winery Old Town Tasting Room are both located within yards of each other in Old Town Albuquerque. I loved the interesting blends at Noisy Water, especially the Wild White – a wine infused with Lavender Sage Lemonade tea. Sheehan Winery Wines have a more classic feel, and I loved the reds on my wine flight.

If you want to get out of town, Casa Rondeña Winery offers a great excuse. A family-owned and operated winery since 1995, Casa Rondeña makes, bottles, and ages all the wine on their expansive property that feels worlds away from the city.

PART III — Sleep

el vado hotel
Emily Hart

Historic Route 66 runs directly through Albuquerque, and in the age of Instagram, the historic roadside motels are experiencing a renaissance. I stayed at the restored El Vado Motel, a motel/taproom/food hall with live music and an outdoor pool. My suite was classic New Mexican and the exterior was clean and stylish.

On my next trip, I’d love to stay at another historic property – Los Poblanos. The Inn and organic farm is famous for its lavender crop and house-made products that you can find all over the world. I visited twice during my long weekend – once to visit the farm store and a drink at Campo, and another on a tour during an e-bike tour. The grounds are spectacular and stylish, with peacocks roaming and the scent of lavender filling the air.

Other options more centrally located are Hotel Andaluz – which is on the National Register of Historic Places – and the luxurious Hotel Chaco.

PART IV — Explore

hot air balloon

Emily Hart

Emily Hart

Emily Hart

Albuquerque is probably best known, to many people, for… Breaking Bad. Well, Breaking Bad and hot air balloons. And for good reason, too — as the setting of the infamous television show, there are ample opportunities for fans to get their fix. Meanwhile, at the International Balloon Fiesta – the largest hot air balloon festival in the world – over 500 balloons can be seen in the air for 9 days in October.

But you don’t have to wait until fall for a ride. The wind patterns in Albuquerque – known as the “Albuquerque Box” — make it an ideal ballooning destination. In fact, it’s the hot-air ballooning capital of the world. I spent my first morning in town in the air with Rainbow Ryders on a sunrise ride over the cottonwood forest known as “The Bosque.” It was incredible to see the city and mountains from in the air – truly a bucket list experience.

petroglyph national monument
Emily Hart

If you’re looking to get in some hiking, head to Petroglyph National Monument, an area protecting one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America. There are no trails at the visitor center, but head just a short way to Boca Negra, Rinconada, Piedras Marcadas Canyons to see petroglyphs and get on the trail.

Another stop you won’t want to miss is the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Owned and operated by the 19 different pueblos of New Mexico, the center works to preserve, protect and educate on Pueblo Indian culture, music, and art. I had brunch at their on-site restaurant and roamed around the galleries and museum spaces – learning so much history that has often been, despicably, left out of American mainstream cirriculum.

bike tour
Emily Hart

Old Town Albuquerque is a great place to meander for an afternoon, or – even better – to take an eBike Tour. I took a tour with Heritage Inspirationsthat took us from downtown to a bike-in coffee shop, a lavender farm, a nature preserve, and down into Old Town. It’s a great way to see this beautiful and unique city.

You Can Now Play ‘DOOM’ Inside Of ‘DOOM 2’

Not only is DOOM one of the most influential video games ever made, but it’s also quickly become one of the most consistently memed games out there. DOOM is a very old game that at the time was the work of pushing computers to their absolute limits. These days though, it’s about the size of a modern day webpage. As a result hackers have made it a challenge to see what weird things they can put the game on such as a lamp from IKEA.

So what have the hackers done this time? Taken this meme to what really feels like its logical conclusion. Now, in the DOS version of DOOM 2 a hacker has figured out a way to make it so you can play the first DOOM inside of the game. They also make some quality of life choices to the game like adding fog and making the textures look better, but the meme of making DOOM playable in yet another place lives on. It’s basically that old “Yo dawg” meme but, with DOOM instead.

It’s very hard to see where the meme can even go from here. How are the hackers going to top putting DOOM inside of its own game? Maybe someone gets permission and puts it on one of the giant screens on Times Square, or play DOOM inside of DOOM inside of DOOM 2.
