Mickey Rourke Can’t Believe That ‘Empathetic’ Putin Is Bombing Ukrainian Civilians And Wants Him To ‘Stop This Sh*t’

An emotional Mickey Rourke has urged Vladimir Putin to end the Russian invasion of Ukraine. During a lengthy interview with Piers Morgan, the actor copped to hobnobbing with the authoritarian leader and even wearing a shirt with Putin’s face after visiting with him in 2014. According to Rourke, Putin seemed like a good man while the two were visiting a children’s hospital in St. Petersburg.

“I looked over at Vladimir, and I could see somebody that was genuinely concerned about where we were and someone who was empathetic and he was there for a sincere reason.” Rourke said. However, the actor clearly doesn’t support what’s happening in Ukraine even if he’s still under the illusion that Putin’s heart will make him do the right thing. Via Mediaite:

Rourke said he wishes a “little bell would ring in [Putin’s] head or his heart and he’d wake up and just stop all this sh-t.”

“That’s the thing that blows my mind. It’s like two brother countries. I don’t understand what he wants, and it’s not only combatants that are getting killed, but old people are getting killed, young people are getting killed. Schools are getting targeted, hospitals are getting targeted. All that sh-t’s not right.”

As he continued to talk about the conditions in Ukraine, Rourke started to get teary-eyed to the point where he put on sunglasses after describing an emotional photo he saw of an old man who had just survived a bombing.

“He lost five family members and the only thing he had, it’s kind of hard for me to talk about it, the only thing he had was this little grey kitty,” Rourke said while visibly crying. “I looked at that image … and I said how can I have anything to worry about? Losing a movie? Or I’m having a bad day?”

‘Breaking Bad’ Statues Of Walt And Jesse Will Soon Stare Down Albuquerque In All Their Bronzed Glory

For decades, millions of visitors have flocked to the statue of Rocky Balboa and his gloves on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. There’s been plenty of posing with both arms raised and shouts of “Adrian!” and so on. Now, another iconic duo is receiving the same local type of tribute. That’d be Breaking Bad‘s Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, and although having a couple of meth kings represent once’s locality isn’t exactly the best look, it’s still the pop-culture look that Albuquerque, New Mexico cannot help but embrace. Yep, there are twin statues coming, so get ready to visit them and tell Jesse that he’s the “b*tch.”

The timing can’t be coincidental, given that Better Call Saul has returned for the midseason premiere of its final season, all while the show’s about to collide with the Breaking Bad timeline. Yep, Walt and Jesse are onboard for a return, and Vince Gilligan issued a statement to thank the city of Albuquerque for cementing Walt and Jesse for the world to enjoy:

“Over the course of fifteen years, two TV shows and one movie, Albuquerque has been wonderful to us. I wanted to return the favor and give something back. These larger-than-life bronzes of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman exist thanks to the generosity of Sony Pictures Television and the artistry of sculptor Trevor Grove, and I love them. It makes me happy to picture them gracing The Duke City for decades to come, attracting busloads of tourists.”

Don’t expect to be able to sneak up on these statues like you kind-of can with Rocky. Walt and Jesse will be located inside of the Albuquerque Convention Center, and the big reveal will happen on July 29. I’m crossing my fingers of a panic-Cranston face, or maybe a replica of a scene from “The Fly.” Don’t worry, I’ll see myself out!

The Jan. 6 Committee Will Focus On The ‘Wild’ Trump Tweet That They Claim Was The ‘Catalyst’ For The MAGA Riot

On December 18, 2020, President Donald Trump tweeted, “Peter Navarro releases 36-page report alleging election fraud ‘more than sufficient’ to swing victory to Trump.” He called it “a great report by Peter. Statistically impossible to have lost the 2020 Election. Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!”

On January 6, 2021, his supporters went wild.

The House committee investigating the failed MAGA coup on the U.S. Capitol will be hearing a lot about that tweet — a tweet that The Hill called a “pivotal moment in the violent effort to overturn his election defeat” — in the coming days.

“We left off [in the last hearing] with Republicans seeking pardons, John Eastman seeking pardons, and Rudy Giuliani seeking a pardon,” Guardian reporter Hugo Lowell said on Tuesday’s episode of Morning Joe. “Now we’re going to focus today on the tweet that Trump sent, a call to extremist groups to storm the Capitol and the groups surrounding the protests surrounding January 6th. They’re going to start with the 18th of December meeting at the White House, according to my reporting.”

Lowell reported:

The select committee will say at the hearing – led by congressmen Jamie Raskin and Stephanie Murphy – that Trump’s tweet was the catalyst that triggered the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers groups, as well as Stop the Steal activists, to target the certification. And Trump sent the tweet knowing that for those groups, it amounted to a confirmation that they should put into motion their plans for January 6, the select committee will say, and encouraged thousands of other supporters to also march on the Capitol for a protest.

Trump sent out the tweet after meeting with a who’s who of conspiracy theorists, including Sidney Powell and Michael Flynn. “This [meeting] goes on for hours and hours, they go to the residence,” Lowell said. “At some point, a decision gets made, whether it’s by Trump or whether it’s been his aides, we’re not entirely clear, but at some point, he makes the decision, and at 1:42 in the morning Trump sends [the] tweet.”

Nothing good ever comes from tweeting at 1:42 a.m.

Interpol Detail Grief And Heartbreak On Their Distressing New Song, ‘Gran Hotel’

Later this week, Interpol will release its seventh album The Other Side Of Make-Believe. It will be the band’s first project since 2018’s Marauder, and so far we’ve received three singles from the upcoming project. Interpol kicked things off with “Toni,” a record that didn’t stray too far away from the band’s post-punk aesthetic. Later came “Something Changed” and “Fables,” and now Interpol offers what could be the last single before the album’s release as they return with “Gran Hotel.”

Interpol’s latest single is quite the distressing release as Paul Banks revealed that the lyrics to “Gran Hotel” tell a story of “grief and heartbreak, of a character processing loss.” The new track also arrives with a video that captures the events that lead to the aforementioned loss. Banks called the visual a “work of art filled with mood and colour that we are very proud to share with you.”

Banks previously noted that The Other Side Of Make-Believe was a project the band started working on remotely back in 2020.

“We usually write live, but for the first time I’m not shouting over a drum kit,” he said. “Daniel [Kessler] and I have a strong enough chemistry that I could picture how my voice would complement the scratch demos he emailed over. Then I could turn the guys down on my laptop, locate these colorful melodies and generally get the message across in an understated fashion.”

You can listen to “Gran Hotel” above and watch the song’s music video, which is currently exclusive to Facebook, here.

The Other Side Of Make-Believe is out 7/15 via Matador. Pre-save it here.

Alison Brie Is So Open-Minded In The ‘Spin Me Round’ Trailer With Aubrey Plaza

Chef shows are all the rage (well, one chef show), so Spin Me Round is coming out at the right time. The comedy stars Alison Brie as Amber, the manager of a restaurant chain who gets “flown to an Italian immersion program on her company’s dime,” but “what starts as a romantic getaway devolves into chaos,” according to the official plot summary.

Spin Me Round also stars Molly Shannon, Ayden Mayeri, Ben Sinclair, Tim Heidecker, Debby Ryan, Fred Armisen, Zach Woods, Lil Rey Howery, and Aubrey Plaza, who has a “steamy” moment with Brie. “I love working with Aubrey. She’s an incredible actress and she and I have really great chemistry. It was really easy to shoot a scene like that together,” the Community star said about the scene where she and Plaza hook up in an alley. “It was so fun. That was one of my favorite nights of shooting.”

The film’s director, Jeff Baena, is married to Plaza in real life, but Brie didn’t feel awkward about the makeout scene. “When we shot The Little Hours, Aubrey had a sex scene with my husband, Dave [Franco], so it’s come full circle. It’s all in the family,” she said.

Spin Me Round opens in theaters and on VOD on August 19.

Rico Nasty Doesn’t Care If You Don’t Like Her New Song, ‘Skullflower’

Rico Nasty has returned to her true form. On her newest track, “Skullflower,” she embraces the weirdness for which her fans know and love her, while denouncing the need for validation within the mainstream.

On “Skullflower,” the latest from her upcoming album, Las Ruinas, Nasty delivers her signature yell-rapping stylings in a slightly pitched-up form, over a bubbly, synth-pop- and alternative-inspired beat, reminiscent of the days of MySpace pop-punk. In the song’s accompanying music video, Nasty is seen wearing a long, lush, gray wig, along with a maid uniform, all of which make for a beautiful contrast as she frolics through a field of sunflowers.

While fans have tweeted their support for the song and its video, Nasty couldn’t help but notice that she had received some hate. “Everyone hates the new song but eye love it,” said Nasty in a tweet, “and besides when was I ever gonna have a SUNFLOWER FIELD LIKE THAT AND A SONG CALLED SKULLFLOWER AT THE SAME TIME.”

Nasty later followed up, noting that she is no longer making music to appeal to the masses, writing, “Im not tryna go number one. Im just making music that I like again. If you don’t get it. Then don’t. Im not about to waste my entire career pleasing people, that’s not what I’m here for. I hope you respect that.

Check out “Skullflower” above.

Las Ruinas is out 7/22 via Sugar Trap. Pre-save it here.

Rico Nasty is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Elon Musk And Trump Are Now Openly Beefing Over The Twitter Deal, And Accusations Of ‘Too Much Drama’ Are Flying

Elon Musk and Donald Trump‘s relationship has quickly gone from bromance to beef. For a brief while, the two seemed thick as thieves as Musk made bold claims of reinstating Trump’s Twitter account once the Tesla CEO finished his acquisition of the social media platform. However, that deal started going south, and Musk put the nail in the coffin last week by announcing he would not be going through with the purchase. That prompted Trump to call Musk a “bullsh*t artist” at a recent rally, and now, we’ve officially got herself a feud.

On Monday night, Musk started taking jabs at the former president by refuting claims that he voted for him. “Not true,” Musk tweeted.

Musk took things further by reacting to Trump’s “bullsh*t artist” remarks with a suggestion that he should stop running for president. “I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset,” Musk wrote. “Dems should also call off the attack – don’t make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency.”

When a user asked if Musk really had a problem with Trump’s policies, Musk doubled down on his remarks that Trump should go away by saying he’s too old to run for president. “Yeah, but too much drama. Do we really want a bull in a china shop situation every single day!?” Musk tweeted. “Also, I think the legal maximum age for start of Presidential term should be 69.”

As of this writing, Trump hasn’t fired back on his Truth Social account, but it’s only a matter of time.
