Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ Sprints Up The Chart To Become Her First Top-10 Hit Thanks To ‘Stranger Things’

Ever since the Billboard Hot 100 chart changed its methodology to include streaming music figures in its song placements, hits have started to emerge from all sorts of places. Since the chart now more accurately reflects what people are listening to on Spotify and the like, older songs that find renewed life in the public consciousness have a greater chance at chart success; Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” was a hit in 2021 and returned to the Hot 100, for example.

Now, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” is experiencing a similar revival thanks to its inclusion in the new season of Stranger Things. In fact, it’s currently one of the biggest songs in the country: On the new Hot 100 chart dated June 11, the 1985 single has risen all the way up to No. 8. “Running Up That Hill” was previously Bush’s biggest single in the US with a peak at No. 30, but now it is her first song to land inside the top 10 spots. This is the song’s first time on the chart since January 1986.

The song is also doing well on the Digital Song Sales chart, where it’s No. 1. It’s also No. 6 on the Streaming Songs chart. Furthermore, “Running Up That Hill” has now completed one of the longest journeys from a song’s Hot 100 debut to its first week in the top 10, a journey that took 36 years, nine months, and one week. This is the longest such run since Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run” completed a significantly longer journey of the same type in 2020, after a wait of 62 years and two weeks.

Bush previously offered a statement on the song’s newfound success, writing on her website, “You might’ve heard that the first part of the fantastic, gripping new series of ‘Stranger Things’ has recently been released on Netflix. It features the song, ‘Running Up That Hill’ which is being given a whole new lease of life by the young fans who love the show – I love it too! Because of this, Running Up That Hill is charting around the world and has entered the UK chart at No. 8. It’s all really exciting! Thanks very much to everyone who has supported the song.”

Woodsist Festival Announces Its 2022 Lineup With Waxahatchee, Sun Ra Arkestra, And Guided By Voices

The Woodsist Festival has seen a considerable amount of growth in the past two years. What began as a modest music festival on California’s Big Sur coastline has now laid down its roots in New York’s Hudson Valley at Arrowood Farms in Accord, NY. The spectacularly curated affair is an artist-led effort by the New York indie folk band Woods and their namesake label.

Now the lineup for the 2022 edition of the Woodsist Festival has been announced and it features Waxahatchee headlining the Sunday, September 25th slate, while long-standing indie rock stalwarts Guided By Voices lead the way for Saturday, September 24th’s programming. Joining them on the bill are a range of noted left-of-center acts, like the spiritual jazz of Sun Ra Arkestra, jazz fusionists Medeski & Martin, zithra master Laraaji, harpist Mary Lattimore, guitar-centric Tuareg band Les Filles de Illighadad, the reggae/dub multi-instrumentalist Pacyhman, and as always, the bucolic folk of Woods.

The Arrowood Farms site itself has an on-site brewery, which makes for an intriguing wrinkle into the experience that features two stages of music. Woodsist Festival is a two-hour drive from New York City, making it a refuge of sorts for city-dwellers.

Tickets for Woodsist Festival 2022 are now on sale here.

‘Manifest’s Supersized Final Season Revealed A (Very) Tentative Release Plan Along With A Cryptic ‘828’ Teaser

Does NBC yet regret cancelling Manifest? We may never receive a definitive answer to that question, but it’s enough (for fans) to know that the fourth season is coming, and it will be a supersized one that promises to wrap up all the mysteries of why Flight 828 went off the grid, only to surface five years later, after everyone on Earth had gone back to their business, leaving plenty of drama and fractured relationships to clean up when the unexpected happened.

This, of course, is happening after the show barreled up Netflix’s charts, which left the streamer with no logical choice but to pick up the show and continue. The precise details on release have been slow to arrive, but creator Jeff Rake previously revealed that the wrap-up had a target month of November, and it was understood that the final season would arrive in at least two parts. Now, we’ve received a cryptic teaser ^^, which doesn’t tell us too much in the definitive sense, other than how Michaela choses to wear inappropriate footwear to sneak around a shipyard.

One actual clue? A bloody arm with maybe “Stone 828” (?) scratched into the skin. Given that Michaela’s last name is Stone, and that also goes for Ben and his fam, it sure sounds like the teaser’s trying to tell us something. Predestination? There’s no telling with this show. Meanwhile, Variety has the total number of episodes coming:

“Manifest” Season 4 will consist of 20 episodes, and will be split into two volumes. The premiere date for the volumes has yet to be announced. Watch the first-look clip below.

All well and good, but honestly, I just want Olive to be happy. Can we get that in the finale? Obviously, the characters will receive a billion callings, but we need something better for Olive than feeling like the un-chosen one and getting sucked into cults.

In summation, the fourth season of Manifest is coming!

CJ McCollum Picked Apart Stephen A.’s Argument Shortening The Season Was ‘Appeasing’ Players

In recent years, especially on the heels of two abbreviated campaigns, discussions about potentially shortening the NBA regular season have swelled. Preservation of player health has assumed a grander talking point in the modern age. Whether it comes to fruition is unclear at the moment, but it’s certainly on the minds of those around the league more than ever before.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith took exception to the notion under the belief that shortening the season would be “appeasing” players. On Monday’s episode of “First Take,” New Orleans Pelicans guard CJ McCollum explained in-depth as to why Smith’s argument is off-base. McCollum is president of the NBPA and offered insightful commentary about the process of potentially shortening the NBA’s regular season.

“My job is to do what’s best for the players, to protect the better interests of the players, while also protecting the integrity of the game. … There’s a rule of thumb here: You have to adapt or you die,” McCollum said. “The way the game is played has evolved. The TV licensing deals have evolved.

“What we have to address and figure out is what’s best for the game. Obviously, there’s financial implications. There’s a revenue situation that we have to figure out,” he continued. “What’s best for the governors, what’s best for the players, and what’s the happy medium. But to say this rule is appeasing the players is blasphemy because there’s a lot of players that just wanna play 82 games. They wanna protect the identity of the league, the history of the league.”

For the final point of his elaborate, informative, three-minute monologue, McCollum addressed the “misconception” that healthy players “choose to sit out games,” calling Smith’s suggesting “blasphemy.” Rather, that’s a decision generally coming from each team’s training staff to protect these players’ bodies, with JJ Redick adding that many players try to push against designated rest days.

McCollum even offered an example of how in Portland prior to the season the staff would sit down with he and Damian Lillard and have them pick “designated rest days” on back-to-backs, four games in five night stretches, and other portions of the schedule with a heavy workload, but once those games arrived, he and Lillard would simply tell the team they were playing and refuse to sit out.

That got Stephen A., unsurprisingly, irked at the notion that he said something blasphemous (which is usually his line) and McCollum seemed very proud of himself for getting Smith riled up, taking a big swig from his coffee mug as Stephen A. hurriedly tried to offer a final response in the final 90 seconds of the segment.

‘Mama!’ Offset Surprises His Mother With A Birkin Bag And Much More Inside Of It

Those who have listened to Migos over the years have likely caught themselves yelling their “Mama!” ad-lib randomly throughout the day. The trio, happy to have reached the heights that they have, are very intentional about honoring those who are responsible for them being on the planet, whether through acknowledgment within their songs or tweets. In the latest addition to their maternal respect, Offset took it a step further with massive generosity as he surprised his mother, Latabia Woodward, with a red Birkin bag at a recent Egyptian-themed get-together; but wait, there’s more.

Woodward was pleasantly surprised at the gift, as were all of the attendees, and once the initial hype died down, Offset urged her to follow the instructions of Migos’ 2018 record “Open It Up” where Woodward found $50,000 cash. Cardi B assisted her mother-in-law in removing the content before Offset engaged her in a huge hug with a smile as wide as his fanbase. The video closes with the two dancing along to Cardi B’s 2021 smash “Up.”

It’s a beautiful moment for Offset and Cardi, who have been in a very good place since having their second child Wave Set Cephus together. They appeared on the cover of Essence Magazine with their nine-month-old, in addition to their three-year-old daughter Kulture, and Kalea, Jordan and Kody who Offset conceived with other women before marrying Cardi.

Meghan McCain Is Feuding With The Trump-Backed MAGA Candidate Who Insulted Her Father: ‘What Trash This Woman Is’

Meghan McCain has fired back at Kari Lake, the frontrunner for the Republican nominee in Arizona’s gubernatorial race, after Lake took a public shot at the late Senator John McCain. Lake has been running with the full support of Donald Trump, who has an infamous history of publicly insulting McCain even after his death.

In a recent clip shared by her campaign, Lake urges voters to choose her because she has no ties to the McCain family’s political machine. “This is time to replace that disgusting, dirty McCain Swamp with, maybe, I don’t know… a Lake?”

Meghan retweeted the clip with her short, but to-the-point thoughts on Lake: “What trash this woman is.”

As Mediaite notes, this isn’t the first time that Lake has fired shots at the late Senator McCain, much to the amusement of Trump, who also backed the candidate due to her loyalty in pushing the “Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen.” Here’s how Lake described her primary opponent Karrin Taylor, who’s married to a significantly older real estate developer:

“If John McCain had a baby with Liz Cheney and that baby married a 95-year-old billionaire, that’s what we got here… that’s who they want to control Arizona, this is the establishment, the deep state.”

While it’s notable that McCain, a self-described “hardcore conservative,” is attacking a fellow Republican, she has been critical of Trump throughout his presidency while also holding the party line on any given topic. (See: Calling Top Gun: Maverick an “anti-woke” victory.) However, whenever her father is insulted, McCain will almost always break ranks.

Bruce Springsteen Joins Coldplay On Stage To Play His Song That Chris Martin Has Tattooed On Himself

Some people are such big fans of musicians that they’ll get tattoos honoring their musical heroes. Coldplay leader Chris Martin is in that group, as he has a tattoo on his arm that says “Working On A Dream,” which is the title track from Bruce Springsteen’s 2009 album. Well, last night, Coldplay performed at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Springsteen himself popped up during the show, joining the band for a couple of songs.

Before launching into “Working On A Dream,” Springsteen told the audience, “Chris said he’s had this song tattooed on his arm for a while, so I guess I’ve got to sing it with him.” After playing the song, they also performed “Dancing In The Dark” before Springsteen bid farewell and left the stage.

This isn’t the first time Martin has gotten to perform with a musical hero, as back in 2016 (coincidentally also at MetLife Stadium), the band was joined by Michael J. Fox for renditions of Back To The Future favorites “Earth Angel” and “Johnny B. Goode.” Recently, Martin credited the movie for Coldplay’s existence.

Post Malone Borders On Unhinged In The ‘Insane’ Video

This past Friday, Post Malone released his fourth album, Twelve Carat Toothache. The fourteen track collection is a reflection of the “Sunflower” singer’s eclectic tastes and features a number of collaborations including “One Right Now” with The Weeknd, “Cooped Up” with Roddy Rich, “I Like You (A Happier Song)” with Doja Cat, and “Love/Hate Letter To Alcohol” with Fleet Foxes. The album explores the emotional wavelengths we’ve all been riding in the past two pandemic-addled years and it’s never for a lack of honesty from Malone.

Now, the rapper has just released the new video for “Insane,” and it sees Posty bordering on unhinged. In the clip, Malone is barefoot and wearing only his house pants in the evening poolside. He dances maniacally to the track, either mimicking inebriation or feeling himself after knocking back a few. He vigorously smokes a cigarette and puts his hand down the front of his pants multiple times a la Al Bundy. But if he’s teetering in the balance, he’s doing so in a sheerly blissful state throughout. It’s a pure expressionist moment from Posty as he cheekily raps lines like, “I got 20, 30 strippers in the Sprinter van / It’s a little cramped to try to teach me how to dance.”

Watch the video for “Insane ” above.

Twelve Carat Toothache is out now via Republic Records. Listen to it here.

Jenna Ortega Looks Mysterious And Spooky In The First Look At Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday’

Jenna Ortega is still a teenager, and she’s already accomplished more than most adult actors/actresses. She served three years in the Disney Channel Industrial Complex before becoming a zoomer scream queen, thanks to her roles in The Babysitter: Killer Queen, the Foo Fighters horror movie Studio 666, Ti West’s wonderful (and salacious) X, and 2022’s Scream, where she out-acts even the longest-tenured members of the horror franchise. Ortega was also cast in Tim Burton’s Wednesday, where she’ll play the same character as Christina Ricci’s breakout role 30 years ago, Wednesday Addams.

Netflix has unveiled the first look of Ortega as Wednesday, which you can watch above.

Wednesday is described as a “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery” show that charts “Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.”

Wednesday, which also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, George Burcea as Lurch, and Luis Guzmán as Wednesday’s father, premieres later this year. It will face stiff competition from Rob Zombie’s The Munsters.
