‘The Bear’ Star Lionel Boyce’s Emmys Outfit Included A Nod To His Odd Future Days

The Bear didn’t get a second consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series trophy at the 2024 Emmys, but the show hardly went home empty handed. Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Liza Colón-Zayas all won in their retrospectives categories, and co-creator Christopher Storer was presented with Outstanding Directing for the “Fishes” episode. Lionel Boyce didn’t officially win anything, but he won the hearts of Loiter Squad fans everywhere by wearing clothing with a nod back to his Odd Future days.

As noted by GQ, Boyce, who plays pastry chef Marcus on the FX series, was “dressed in a smart black zip jacket with roomy pleated trousers, a club collar shirt with a pastel pink tie, and a wool baseball cap, all from Odd Future founder Tyler, the Creator’s label Golf Le Fleur.” He took off the beanie, so you know it was a big deal.

“Custom @lefleur for the Emmys,” Boyce wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Tyler, @darrenvongphakdy, @bykaidan, and @ruby.vickers for making it happen. Also thanks @nilou_nilou for always helping with the styling.”

Ahead of the Emmys, Boyce told Variety that he was on a plane when he learned about his first nomination. “I was asleep, and I woke up to a text,” he said. “I didn’t buy Wi-Fi, and I forgot to put my phone on airplane mode, so I got a random text saying, ‘Hot damn!’ I woke up all confused, and there were a couple of people on the plane who knew, so they said, ‘Congrats’ and stuff.”

The Bear season 4 does not currently have a premiere date.

Chappell Roan Wouldn’t Mind Losing Out At The 2025 Grammys ‘Because Then Everyone Will Get Off My Ass’

chappell roan 2024 MTV Video Music Awards - Show

Chappell Roan won Best New Artist at the 2024 MTV VMAs last Wednesday, September 11. Roan is essentially a lock to be nominated for Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys, but she isn’t holding her breath.

“My mom would love to go to the Grammys or the Brits,” Roan told The Face, adding, “I’m kind of hoping I don’t win, because then everyone will get off my ass: ’See, guys, we did it and we didn’t win, bye!’ I won’t have to do this again!”

Roan would rather achieve longevity in her career than win a prestigious award in 2025, and she’s focused on “making this sustainable,” as she explained to The Face.

“This industry and artistry f*cking thrive on mental illness, burnout, overworking yourself, overextending yourself, not sleeping,” the rapidly ascending star said. “You get bigger [and] the more unhealthy you are. Isn’t that so f*cked up?”

Roan cited Instagram, TikTok, and the internet as a whole for feeding into the toxic cycle, before she concluded, “The ambition is: How do I not hate myself, my job, my life, and do this? Because right now, it’s not working. I’m just scrambling to try to feel healthy.”

Roan has been outspoken about creating boundaries with her fans — more accurately, strangers behaving inappropriately under the guise of fandom — and the immense struggle of becoming famous so quickly.

‘Brat Summer’ Is Coming To An End, But Charli XCX’s Movie Career Is Just Getting Started

Charli XCX(1024x450)
Getty Image/Merle Cooper

Summer turns to fall this Sunday, September 22, and with it comes the official end of Brat summer. But Charli XCX isn’t going anywhere.

For one thing, the “Von Dutch” singer will be touring with Troye Sivan on the Sweat tour until the end of October. Charli is also building up her filmography, which at the moment mostly consists of music videos and voice roles in The Angry Birds Movie and UglyDolls. That will soon change.

Below, you’ll find a list of upcoming movies where Charli has either been announced as a member of the cast, or she penned songs for the soundtrack. She’s even teased writing her own film. Charli is truly going next level.

Faces Of Death

1978’s Faces Of Death (“banned in 46 countries!”) is a cult classic among horror fans that mixes real and staged footage of people dying. It’s very Rotten Dot Com, a reference that will only make sense if you’re over the age of 30. The first (and last!) time I watched Faces Of Death was in my friend’s basement in high school, which is the objectively correct way to see it.

The film is getting a “reimagining” for a new generation of basement-dwellers from writer-and-director duo Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, who called the original “one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online.” The modern update stars Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria), Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things), and Charli XCX in unknown roles (maybe Victim #1, Victim #2, and Victim #3?).

There’s no release date yet.

Mother Mary

Charli XCX doesn’t appear in A24’s Mother Mary, the new film from David Lowery (The Green Knight). But she worked with Jack Antonoff to write and produce original songs for the film, which is described as an “epic pop melodrama” about the relationship between a musician (Anne Hathaway) and a fashion designer (Michaela Coel). The cast also includes Hunter Schafer, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Sian Clifford, and FKA Twigs.

A 2025 release is likely.

Overcompensating

Charli also serves as executive music producer in another A24 title, although this one is a Prime Video series, not a movie. Overcompensating stars comedian Benito Skinner as a closeted former football player and homecoming king who befriends a high school outsider named Carmen. Together, they “juggle horrible hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs,” according to the official logline. Skinner (who also created the show) previously worked with Charli in her “New Shapes” music video.

Prime Video hasn’t revealed a premiere date yet.

I Want Your Sex

Sex! Now that I have your attention: Charli XCX has signed up to star alongside Olivia Wilde and Licorice Pizza favorite Cooper Hoffman in I Want Your Sex. The thriller from director Gregg Araki (who also co-wrote the script with Karley Sciortino) follows fresh-faced Elliott (Hoffman) as he begins working with “renowned artist, icon, and provocateur” Erika (Wilde) and quickly becomes her “sexual muse,” according to Deadline. “But Elliot soon finds himself out of his depth as Erika takes him on a journey more profound than he ever could have imagined, into a world of sex, obsession, power, betrayal, and murder.” (Sex, Obsession, Power, Betrayal, and Murder was actually the original title for Brat before Charli decided to go with something shorter.)

If you want to know when I Want Your Sex hits theaters, you’ll have to wait: nothing has been announced.

100 Nights Of Hero

The most recent addition to Charli’s IMDb page is 100 Nights Of Hero. Based on Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel of the same name, the “feminist fairy tale” from director Julia Jackman centers on two women, Cherry and Hero, who are secretly in love and the plan they devise to keep a male seducer at bay. Charli’s role hasn’t been announced yet, but Cherry and Hero will be played by Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and Emma Corrin (The Crown), while Nicholas Galitzine (Bottoms) will supposedly portray the villainous Manfred.

100 Nights of Hero is in pre-production, so don’t expect to see it for awhile.

Charli XCX’s Screenplay Debut (?)

Back in July, Billboard published a lengthy profile of Charli XCX, who shared that she was planning to take a vacation to Poland in August and “write a film there.” Before revealing any details, however, she added, “Well, I don’t really know if I should say because I also don’t know if we’re going to do it. We might actually just go to Poland and not do that, but that is the idea.”

Did Charli end up working on the movie? Maybe! She hasn’t said. But if it does get made, the Letterboxd review practically writes itself: “I Love It.”

Margaret Qualley Didn’t Mind Demi Moore Putting ‘Her Naked Body On Mine’ In ‘The Substance’ But ‘Got Wasted’ To Perform A Suggestive Dance

the substance
Getty Image

The Substance is the flashy new sci-fi thriller starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley that explores the horror of aging as a woman, specifically in Hollywood. Directed by Coralie Fargeat, The Substance follows Moore as a former A-list aerobic instructor who discovers a controversial new drug that makes users temporarily reborn as a younger version of themselves, and before long the film dives into full-fledged body horror.

Qualley plays Sue, the newer, younger version of Elisabeth Sparkle, played by Moore. Qualley was prepared to work extremely close to Moore for the unique role. “If Demi Moore wants to put her naked body on mine, ‘Go forth, please.’ I should be so lucky,” Qualley told The Times. But she admitted that she had a tough time getting into character as the raunchy aerobic instructor. “That specific kind of sexuality doesn’t lend itself to me,” she explained.

After learning her routine in private because she “was so deeply ashamed,” Qualley sobbed in the bathroom before going through with the scene. “And still, day of, I just got wasted first thing in the morning because I was like, I can’t do this in front of everybody,” she said, admitting she used weed and tequila to help bring Sue to life.

Even though the ordeal must have been nervewraking, Qualley and Moore were able to form a unique bond that only being naked on a set together can bring! Moore has shared her side of the story in a recent spread with Interview Magazine, “There was truly a part, when Margaret [Qualley] and I were on this cold tile floor having to be draped on one another-and it was a very serious scene-that we both just burst out laughing, saying, ‘Thank god we like each other, because otherwise this would be really awkward,’” she said.

The Substance hits theaters on September 18th.

Jane’s Addiction Is Going On Hiatus After Perry Farrell Attacked Dave Navarro On Stage

Getty Image

Things have been chaotic in the Jane’s Addiction sphere over the past few days. The band’s September 13 concert in Boston ended prematurely after singer Perry Farrell (who is also the founder of the famed Lollapalooza festival) punched guitarist Dave Navarro on stage. The band later issued an apology and canceled a Bridgeport, Connecticut concert scheduled for September 15.

Now, the band has announced they have canceled the rest of their tour and are going on a break.

In a statement shared on social media today (September 16), the band wrote:

“To all the fans,

The band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group.

As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.

Refunds for the cancelled dates will be issued at your point of purchase – or if you purchased from a third-party resale site like StubHub, SeatGeek, etc, please reach out to them direct.

Thank you,
Jane’s Addiction.”

In a different statement from the band’s Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins (but not Farrell) also shared today, the trio wrote:

“Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.

Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.

We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis.

Our hearts are broken.
Dave, Eric and Stephen.”

After the initial incident, Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell shared a video of the confrontation and a statement, writing:

“Rather than speculating, I thought to post a first person account of what happened on stage with @janesaddiction last night at the @lenderpavilion in Boston.

WHO: Perry Farrell & Dave Navarro

HOW: Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members.. the magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up in Dave’s face and body checked him.

WHY: Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the first row, started complaining up to Perry cussing at him that the band was planning too loud and that they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it.

WHEN: The band started the song Ocean before Perry was ready and did the count off.. The stage volume was so loud at that point, that Perry couldn’t hear pass the boom and the vibration of the instruments and by the end of the song, he wasn’t singing, he was screaming just be to be heard.

SO WHO WON THE FIGHT:

Why, Eric Avery of course. While Dave was keeping Perry at arm’s length to de-escalate the situation. Dan rushed over to de-escalate as well by holding Perry back. Dave walked away to take his guitar off. Eric walked up to Perry, upstage, in the dark, behind Dan, put Perry in a headlock and punched him in the stomach three times. Kevin, crewmember with a long hair with long hair pulled Eric away. Then Eric nonchalant walked off to the front of the stage to apologize to audience for the show ended early.

WHAT WAS THE AFTERMATH?

Dave still looked handsome and cool in the middle of a fight. Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour – he finally did not calm down, but did breakdown and cried and cried. Eric, well he either didn’t understand what descalation meant or took advantage of the situation and got in a few cheap shots on Perry.

Well, that’s is my first person account narrative of what happened. Take a look at the video yourself.”

The Rising Latin Music Acts To Watch Out For Next

latin_artists(1024x450)
Via The Artist

Latin music has gone global. The biggest pop stars in the world today like Bad Bunny, Shakira, Peso Pluma, Karol G, Feid, and more sing in Spanish while bringing new rhythms into the mainstream. Even if listeners don’t fully understand the language, they’re connecting with the sounds and heart of their music more than ever.

Bad Bunny continues to proudly represent his homeland of Puerto Rico while bringing reggaeton and Latin trap music to the masses. For his debut at the MTV Video Music Awards last week, Rauw Alejandro also celebrated his Puerto Rican heritage while performing “Diluvio” with bomba musicians and dancers. Following some time off with his family, Colombian superstar J Balvin returned with latest album Rayo last month. After making their hometown of Medellín another hotbed for reggaeton music, Karol G and Feid have since become two of the most-streamed artists in the world. Colombian pop icon Shakira also came back with a vengeance this year with her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran album.

After helping música Mexicana go global last year, Peso Pluma has continued to hold the flag of Mexico up high with his performances on the Coachella mainstage and his arena tour of the US. With Hispanic Heritage Month here, Uproxx is highlighting 10 more Latin music acts to check out not just now, but all year round. These are artists who are poised to make waves next.

Xavi

Xavi started out the year at No. 1 on Spotify’s Top 50 Global chart with his breakthrough single “La Diabla” for multiple weeks. While other música Mexicana acts are thriving off of collaborations, the Mexican-American singer has shined solo with his other hits like “La Víctima” and “Corazón De Piedra.” After conquering with his romantic corridos, Xavi is working on his debut album with Interscope Records.

Kenia Os

Kenia Os is bringing Latin pop music back into the mainstream. After going viral on TikTok last year with the flirty “Malas Decisiones,” the rising Mexican star translated that success into over 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Os continued to embrace pop while putting a spotlight on the emerging reggaeton Mexa wave on her latest album Pink Aura. Ahead of Os’ US tour in November, Peso Pluma tapped her for the sultry track “Tommy & Pamela.”

El Malilla

Reggaeton Mexa is the name of the reggaeton movement that’s bubbling up in Mexico. An artist leading that new wave is El Malilla from Valle de Chalco, which is on the outskirts of Mexico City. While proudly representing chacales (Mexican slang for “bad boys”), he has injected the genre with plenty of Mexican swagger and slang in his hits like “Dime” and “Rebote.” El Malilla’s debut album Ñerostars includes the remix of “B De Bellako” featuring Puerto Rican reggaeton pioneers Jowell y Randy.

FloyyMenor

A new reggaeton scene is also emerging in Chile. An artist leading that movement is FloyyMenor, who has scored one of the year’s biggest hits with “Gata Only” featuring fellow Chilean singer Cris MJ. Hot off amassing over a billion streams on Spotify with the alluring reggaeton banger, FloyyMenor released his debut EP El Comienzo and the joint project MJ (Mala Junta) with Cris MJ.

Ela Taubert

After releasing her debut EP ¿Quién Dijo Que Era Fácil? last year, Ela Taubert’s breakthrough hit was on the horizon. The Colombian singer-songwriter channeled her pain from heartbreak into the angsty anthem “¿Cómo Pasó?,” which has over 90 million streams on Spotify. Taubert has continued to translate her confessional lyrics into power pop bangers like the country-infused “¿Para Qué?”

Lismar

After Bizarrap’s collaborations with Shakira, Peso Pluma, and Young Miko, everyone wants to do a “BZRP Music Session” with him. For “BZRP Music Sessions #60,” the Argentine producer tapped rising Dominican rapper Lismar, who unleashed her fierce flow and knockout bars in Spanish. Following their second collaboration, the fiery “Subió La Temperatura,” the future of Latin hip-hop is bright in Lismar’s hands.

Latin Mafia

Following a sold-out arena tour of Mexico last year, Latin Mafia made its US debut at Coachella last April. Mexican brothers Mike, Emilio, and Milton De La Rosa are pushing Latin music to new places with their hits like the symphonic pop of “Patadas De Ahogado” featuring Humbe, the trap-infused R&B of “No Digas Nada,” and the explosive reggaeton of “Julietota.” After signing with Rimas Entertainment, the home of Bad Bunny, in July, Latin Mafia is working on its highly anticipated debut album.

Borja

While co-writing songs for acts like Reik, Lasso, and Nicole Zignago, Borja was independently working on his debut album for two years. The Spanish singer-songwriter brought romance back to Latin pop with Rimas Del Verbo Amar, which included the breathtaking ballad “Aire” and earned him a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist last November. Freshly after releasing the feel-good “Mallorca” in July, Karol G invited Borja to open for one of her concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid.

Juan Duque

Medellín, Colombia is the home of J Balvin, Maluma, Karol G, Feid, and Ryan Castro and in a neighboring town, a new rising star is emerging. Marinilla native Juan Duque is capturing hearts with his romantic spin on reggaeton in his EP Qué Momento Pa’ Estar Vivo. Following his hits like the “Maria” remix featuring Castro, Duque is continuing to charm listeners with his Colombian swagger in the nostalgic “Lejos De Mis Ojos” and the bachata-infused “Ni Con Él, Ni Conmigo” with Andy Rivera.

Elena Rose

After co-writing hits for artists like Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Karol G, and Becky G, Elena Rose has carved out a space for herself as a beam of light in Latin pop. The Venezuelan-American singer has released empowering anthems like “Caracas En El 2000” with Danny Ocean and Jerry Di and featured on Boza’s global hit “Orion.” Now Rose is continuing to channel her glowing spirit in the soulful “Me Lo Merezco,” which includes a lyric from Paula Cole’s iconic “I Don’t Want To Wait.”

Why Did Jeremy Allen White Get Censored During His Emmy Speech?

When you get the man who plays Carmy Berzatto on stage, it would be weird if he didn’t let some sort of obscenity slip. So over the weekend when Jeremy Allen White won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, whoever was on Curse Patrol had to be on high alert… especially when John Oliver was also a winner.

While accepting the Emmy (his second win in the category) White’s audio was cut at a certain point in his acceptance speech and, surprisingly, it wasn’t for the F word, which he uses healthily and often, but for something else. As IndieWire reports, White’s audio was dumped when he said “Jesus Christ” during his speech. If only he was thanking Jesus then maybe it could have been fine, but his usage was a little more chaotic which warranted censoring.

This wasn’t the only time the term was cut. Richard Gadd, who won three Emmys for Baby Reindeer, was also censored during his speech for Outstanding Limited Series.

Is “Jesus Christ” a normal censored phrase? It depends on the usage, according to the FCC, but it was pretty clear that White was not thanking him, so it was taken as profanity. But White went home with another statue to add to his collection, so he probably doesn’t mind.

No matter what the rules are, at least we’ll always have this.

Cher Won’t Pursue A Conservatorship Over Elijah Blue Allman After They Reportedly ‘Privately Resolved This Matter’

cher "The Bikeriders" Los Angeles Premiere - Arrivals

Cher has ended her pursuit of a conservatorship over Elijah Blue Allman, her 48-year-old son.

“The team successfully defended Elijah, resulting in Cher voluntarily dismissing her petition,” Avi Levy and Steven Brumer of Cage & Miles, LLP, Allman’s attorneys, shared in a statement to People. “This outcome allows the parties to focus on healing and rebuilding their family bond, a process that began during mediation and continues today.”

People additionally confirmed, “The two have reached a private agreement.”

Last December, TMZ reported that Cher had filed for a conservatorship over Allman because, she claimed, Allman was “substantially unable to manage his own financial resources due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues.”

Cher’s emergency bid was denied, as per Rolling Stone this January. Allman appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom to oppose Cher’s filing.

At that time, Allman expressed that he had “struggled with addiction and spent money in ways that have not always been the most responsible,” but he was in a different place — attending AA meetings and “reconciling with my wife.”

Cher was denied again later in January, and by March, Rolling Stone reported that Cher had been granted “a three-month delay to gather medical records and pursue a private settlement.”

Cher shared Elijah Blue Allman with the late Gregg Allman.

GloRilla Plans To Release Her Debut Album In October

glorilla
Getty Image

Gloria Hallelujah Woods has had a great 2024, and just might be getting better. The Memphis rapper — better known as GloRilla — has already released a mixtape this year, but may soon be following up with her official debut album. Ehhthang Ehhthang produced a couple of hits — namely, “Wanna Be” with Megan Thee Stallion and “Yeah Glo!” — but she’s since released the borderline inescapable “TGIF,” and it seems now we know where that’s probably going to end up. Thanks to a red carpet interview from the 2024 MTV VMAs, where GloRilla performed last week, we also have a pretty good idea when Glo’s debut will drop.

“I’m dropping an album next month, in October,” she told Extra. “I’m so excited about that. We gon’ go number one! [The title] starts with a G.” At a guess, I’m thinking Gloria or GloRilla. Self-titled albums are all the rage lately (just look at Megan and Michael, two of the biggest albums of the last two years), and as a debut, a self-titled could be a strong move in generating some brand awareness.

Of course, album release dates tend to move around, so unless Glo drops an official announcement, take “October” with a grain of salt. Still, it’s exciting that we might be getting a landmark album from an artist having a banner year.
