Report: Rich Paul Asked The Warriors And Lakers To Shut Down LeBron Trade Talks Last Season

Getty Image

Back in February, we learned that the Los Angeles Lakers spoke with the Golden State Warriors about a potential trade that would’ve sent LeBron James north to San Francisco and paired him with Stephen Curry. James was asked about those talks and said he learned about them when everyone else did — via a Woj tweet — indicating things never got very serious, and that was about where that conversation ended.

However, after seeing James and Curry dominate together in Paris at the Olympics, there has been a new round of discussion about whether the two could team up at some point before retiring. That led Marc Stein to do a little digging on those pre-deadline talks, where he learned from a source that those conversations between the two teams owners ended as soon as Rich Paul got wind of talks, as James’ agent reportedly “implored” the two sides to drop the conversations in an effort to keep LeBron from the backlash of another move.

It is believed that the Lakers would have reluctantly entertained trade conversations with the Warriors before last February’s trade deadline if James wanted them to seriously engage Golden State on a potential deal. Yet league sources say that the reported talks between the teams at the time never got that far in large part because James’ agent Rich Paul was adamantly opposed to the idea of James swapping Southern California for Northern California.

Sources say Paul implored both teams to scrap the concept — despite some owner-to-owner dialogue between the Warriors’ Joe Lacob and the Lakers’ Jeanie Buss and Green’s determination to lobby James to push for relocation to the Bay Area — largely because he wanted to insulate James from potential backlash over switching teams for the fourth time in his career.

This showing up in a piece that also includes reporting that the Warriors felt like the Clippers and Jazz weren’t negotiating in good faith in George and Markkanen trade talks leads me to believe this is a further effort from Golden State to show effort in adding star talent around Stephen Curry. After Curry’s sensational Olympic run, it’s clear he’s still capable of playing at the highest level, and there is some pressure on them to build a contender around him.

As for the perspective from Paul’s side, James has caught heat when moving teams in the past so I can fully understand wanting to keep that from happening again — particularly if LeBron wasn’t fully on board with the plan. While there would undoubtedly be some of that coming his way if he was dealt to the Warriors, given where both teams are right now, I’m not sure the response would be as negative from the general fan as they maybe fear. In any case, the conversations never got further than the very preliminary stages and this probably isn’t really “a thing,” but it’s also mid-August and we don’t have a lot else going on in the NBA world, so the LeBron-Steph combo is something fun to think about.

Doja Cat is no stranger to controversial moments (including her take on children attending concerts). However, when the “Paint The Town Red” rapper’s supposed relationship with J.Cyrus received push back from fans, it grew to be too much for her to handle.

But rumor has it that Doja Cat has moved onto Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn, and the public is seemingly in full support. Continue below for more details.

Are Doja Cat And Joseph Quinn Dating?

According to Deuxmoi, on Doja Cat and Joseph Quinn were spotted cozied up at Osees’ August 16 show at Dingwalls in London’s Camden neighborhood. In the grainy image captured by an onlooker, the pair supposedly couldn’t keep their hands off of each other.

While it is difficult to determine if the pixelated figures are indeed Doja Cat and Joseph Quinn, photographs published by The Irish Sun show the duo out enjoying a pint at a pub around the same timeframe.

Even so, this doesn’t confirm that the two are indeed boo’d up. But, it is hard to completely dismiss the notion as just two years ago Noah Schnapp shared private messages from Doja asking him to set her up with Quinn.

Neither Doja Cat nor Joseph Quinn have issued a response to the bubbling gossip. However, users online aren’t waiting for a confirmation in the affirmation to begin drafting couple names.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again Is Reportedly Set To Enter A Guilty Plea In His Federal Gun Case

Fans of YoungBoy Never Broke Again (known colloquially as NBA YoungBoy) are growing nervous for the “What You Say” rapper’s future. According to WAFB, YoungBoy Never Broke Again (real name Kentrell DeSean Gaulden) is ready to make progress in his his 2020 federal weapons case. But not in the way supporters may think.

The outlet reports, YoungBoy Never Broke Again is set to enter a plea of guilty in the matter. Paperwork obtained by the local news organization, supposedly filed by YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s attorney Drew Findling has changed his plea to guilty.

This legal mess dates back to September 2020, when YoungBoy Never Broke Again was arrested in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana alongside 15 other supposedly affiliates. It was then that YoungBoy Never Broke Again was charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

That isn’t the only update found in the documents. Findling has reportedly also requested to have the case moved to Utah, instead of Louisiana’s Middle District, as the mountainous state currently serves as YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s home (and where he faces other similar charges).

As of today (August 18), a formal decision has not been made regarding YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s requests submitted by his attorney. However, one could be made fairly soon, as WAFB claims his next court dates are scheduled for August 29 in Weber County and September 23 in Cache County, both seemingly in Utah.

With a guilty plea, YoungBoy Never Broke Again could be sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison, in addition to monetary fines as well as a lengthy period of supervised release.

Yo Gotti’s CMG label family has a cause worth celebrating. According to TMZ, Blac Youngsta’s (real name Sammie Marquez Benson) pending legal case is a thing of the past.

In the outlet’s report, the “Shake Sum” rapper’s unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon case has been dismissed by a Texas judge.

Following the decision, TMZ spoke with Blac Youngsta’s lawyer, Carl A. Moore. During the chat, Moore expressed on behalf of his client that Youngsta was “happy to put this case behind him.” This is to be expected considering the incident stems from his October 2020 arrest in Dallas.

Moore went on to say he “feels the District Attorney’s Office did the right thing by dropping the charge” and “justice has finally prevailed.”

At the time of Youngsta’s arrest, cops alleged they stopped a vehicle as part of a routine traffic stop. During their initial inspection, in which Blac Youngsta was seated in the passenger’s side, officers claimed Youngsta had a handgun tucked between his legs.

Blac Youngsta hasn’t released a public statement in regard to the case’s dismissal. However, with the case behind him, fans are wondering what’s next for Blac Youngsta. Blac Youngsta’s latest studio album, 4LIFE, celebrated its second anniversary. Could this mean another full-length release is on the way? Well, fans surely hope so.

Guerschon Yabusele Is Signing With The Sixers After His Huge Olympic Performance For France

One of the things that is the most fun about watching basketball at the Olympics (besides getting to see a USA team with LeBron James and Stephen Curry playing together) is seeing role players in the NBA take on starring roles for their country.

There is something about international play that brings out the best in some guys, from Carlos Arroyo with Puerto Rico to Rudy Fernandez with Spain, there are tons of examples of guys that have found a different level playing for their country. This year, we saw Dennis Schröder, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Evan Fournier, and others shine on the Olympic stage in a way we don’t always get to on the NBA court, but no one made a bigger impression over two weeks in Paris than French big man Guerschon Yabusele.

Yabusele was so good for France that by the time the knockout rounds arrived, he had supplanted Rudy Gobert in the starting lineup, providing an ideal physical foil for Victor Wembanyama. He scored 22, 17, and 20 points in France’s three knockout stage games, as he posed problems inside for Canada, Germany, and even Team USA. Those performances opened some eyes in the NBA, and after being out of the league since 2019 when he was with the Celtics, Yabusele is coming back to the NBA as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, according to Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski.

Yabusele’s deal is a 1-year, $2.1 million minimum contract that gives him a chance to re-establish himself as an NBA player. Yabusele will leave Real Madrid to join the Sixers, and will compete for backup minutes at the four in camp. The Sixers hope they’ve built a squad that can challenge the Celtics in the East this year, most notably with the addition of Paul George. While Yabusele isn’t likely going to be a major factor in the playoff rotation, he did become something of a cult figure for Celtics fans and seeing him in a Sixers uni might cause them a bit of mental anguish, if nothing else.

Coldplay’s ‘Music of the Spheres Tour’ Is Reportedly The Highest-Grossing Rock Tour Ever

Coldplay
Getty Image

Coldplay has been crowned the kings of rock tours. Although their Music of the Spheres Tour hasn’t officially wrapped, it has already made history.

On August 16, Billboard Boxscore revealed that since its March 2022 launch, Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres Tour has grossed $945.7 million, which roughly translated to 8.8 million tickets sold. When the numbers are crunched, this makes the tour the highest-grossing rock tour ever.

If you aren’t impressed with this accomplishment, remember the “Feelslikeimfallinginlove” musician did this all while reducing their environmental impact.

For comparison’s sake, this means Coldplay surpassed records previously held by acts such as Elton John, U2, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Roger Waters. Between 2018 and 2023, Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour grossed $939.1 million. U2’s U2 360 Tour, which ran from 2009 to 2011, pulled in $736.4 million. While The Rolling Stones’ 2005 through 2007 performance run, A Bigger Bang Tour, brought in $558 million.

Coldplay’s trip around the globe is far from over. The band has several shows scheduled throughout the year in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Find more information here.

Ever so humble, Coldplay hasn’t addressed the massive milestone. Instead, across their social media pages all of their attention is on promoting their upcoming album, Moon Music, due out on October 4.

‘Crossed’: Everything To Know So Far About The Next Outrageous Adaptation From ‘The Boys’ Author Garth Ennis

the-boys-season-4-homelander-med
Prime Video/Amazon

Comic book legend Garth Ennis is the legendary mind behind multiple mind-melting adapted-for-TV series full of hard-hitting characters. From Jesse Custer and Tulip’s partnership in Preacher to Homelander and Billy Butcher’s rivalry in The Boys (and the fallout that led to Gen V), millions of viewers have found endlessly graphic entertainment from his creations. Now, another Ennis-penned title, Crossed (drawn by Jacen Burrows), will receive the adaptation treatment, this time with the big screen in mind. Let’s uncover what has been revealed this far about the Crossed movie.

Plot

Avatar Press

Ennis has penned the screenplay that has been picked up by independent Six Studios, which also plans to finance the film. The story revolves against the backdrop of a pandemic, and although that would otherwise be a signal to take pause (given our world’s recent circumstances), both The Boys and Gen V viewers have proven that a (Supe) virus won’t stand in the way of compelling material. As Hollywood Reporter notes, the comic ^^^ series totals 200 issues that expanded from the original 10 that will be the launching point for the film:

Crossed takes place in a pandemic-stricken world, in which those who catch a disease are marked with a cross-like rash on their faces. Those afflicted follow their worst impulses — think a zombie apocalypse, but instead of zombies, these are humans who retain their intellect, but are homicidal maniacs.

Six Studios producer Carl Choi has compared Ennis’ script to a cross between Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic, the Steven Soderbergh-directed Contagion, and the Alex Garland-helmed Civil War. As for the Crossed comic, readers are encouraged to imagine this nightmarish and traumatic scenario: “When civilization crumbles in one terrifying moment; when people are gleefully breaking into unthinkable acts of violence all around you; when everyone you love has died screaming in agony: What do you do? There is no help. There is no hope. There is no escape. There are only the Crossed.”

This story will bring a built-in audience of both readers and viewers ready for when the movie adaptation comes together.

Cast

At present, no details have slipped out on possible actors, and Six Studios is currently feeling out the best director for the project.

Release Date

Cross will head into production before the end of 2024. With any luck, we could enjoy an early 2026 release.

Trailer

Clearly, it’s far too early for a trailer or even footage, but when was the last time that you watched The Boys second-season whale scene?

What’s Popular On Streaming Now

prometheus alien large
20th century fox

Every single week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

10. A Quiet Place: Day One (Paramount Pictures film on VOD & Prime Video/Amazon)

Man, John Krasinski quietly (and believe it or not, that isn’t entirely a pun) became a hell of a director and producer in addition to starring in multiple crowd-fave series like The Office and Jack Ryan. The first Quiet Place surprised the world by crushing its budget, although in retrospect, horror is arguably the most satisfying genre through which to deliver those goods. Audiences never do grow afraid of being scared, and the alien creatures are seen in this prequel film while touching down in New York City, where Lupita Nyong’o and her cat find a new friend, and together, they flee those horrible creatures with a frighteningly acute sense of sound.

9. The Union (Netflix film)

Netflix might have an enormous hat filled with A-listers, and they might — maybe — draw names at random to fill their endless supply of feature films. This time, sticks were pulled by Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg, who portray ex-high school sweethearts that aren’t on entirely terrible terms. That is, until the star of Catwoman rolls in and pulls the former Marky Mark into an espionage adventure (what a terrible date idea).

8. Supacell (Netflix series)

A second season recently received a green light for these South Londoner characters, who are ordinary-but-superpowered people in a story that highlights sickle cell disease and the social issues tied to its suffering. Rapman (whose real name happens to be Andrew Onwubolu) created the show, and The Boys fans who love non-traditional superhero TV shows can point their insatiable appetites toward this story while waiting for more Gen V and Invincible to exit the pipeline.

7. Bad Monkey (Apple TV+ series)

Producer Bill Lawrence follows up his Ted Lasso domination with this adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s cult-favorite and bestseller novel of the same name. And when the tech giant’s streaming service needed a protagonist who is fast talking and doesn’t take himself seriously, they knew who to call. Vince Vaughn is here to finally make you forget about his season of True Detective as Andrew Yancy, a former cop-turned-health-inspector who becomes involved in a mystery investigation that could right his career, or not. The series also stars Rob Delaney, Jodie Turner-Smith, L.Scott Caldwell, Michelle Monaghan, and Alex Moffat. Keep your eyes peeled for Zach Braff, too.

6. The Old Man (FX series streaming on Hulu)

Like John Krasinski, Jeff Bridges has also left his most notorious role(s) in the dust with a TV series to crush most other Dad TV series. Plenty of John Wick-esque flair will do that, and people are binging the first season ahead of the followup’s arrival on September 12. Alia Shawkat’s character will begin the season struggling to cope with her new surroundings and (cough) knowledge while John Lithgow has joined Bridges for some ass-kicking mode. Well, at least one of them have the agility to do so, and if you need a viewing recommendation for the upcoming Labor Day weekend, look no further.

5. Industry (HBO series)

This show has received plentiful comparisons to Euphoria but set in London’s financial sector. Succession comparisons also exist and are based upon the cutthroat nature of this industry and the glossy sheen of this story that is awash with morphing power dynamics. On a surface level, the latter comparisons make sense. These characters are also young, clever, messy, and money-motivated, but writing off Industry as an imitator would do a disservice, especially as it looks to level up and expand its horizons by throwing new challenges at its characters. That is to say: do not sleep on Industry‘s new season. Read our review here.

4. The Umbrella Academy (Netflix series)

Do the Hargreeves siblings have it in them to stop a final apocalypse? That question would assume that they have a choice in the matter, and this time, a fix will be rough since the group lost their powers when Allison hit the reset button. As long as Klaus hasn’t lost his oddball behavior, this will be just fine, but watching the group be “ordinary” might be heartbreaking, so they shall need to figure out what the hell is going on set the world right. This season will include Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross along with the usual sibling mess led by Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, and Robert Sheehan.

3. Dexter (Showtime series streaming on Netflix and Paramount+)

TV continues to be a respite from the harsh summer mugginess, and fortunately, there are eight Dexter seasons (and a bonus in New Blood) to rewatch before Original Sin and Resurrection spin offs arrive. How did Dexter Morgan survive again, other than possibly having nine lives? Now, there’s a theory. While we wait for enlightenment, the original series is still popping on Netflix because not even the lumberjack thing hurts its appeal. This show is teflon for season and series finales, and I love that for Michael C. Hall.

2. Prometheus (20th Century Fox film streaming on Hulu)

Alien: Romulus is the horror Queen of the box-office this weekend, and we do have a list of the Alien movies’ chronological order, but if you are looking for the third-best entry, you are definitely not alone. This film is trending throughout social media, so if you haven’t watched this yet, look out for spoilers until you take in the unsettling Fassbender synth for yourself.

1. Emily In Paris (Netflix series)

Emily Cooper is back yet not 100% in Paris and with conflict, squabbles, and stress, but at least she starts the season single and happy. From there, get ready for Gabriel and Alfie to still form a love triangle with her while Mindy tries to talk some sense into people. Surely, that will go well, but at least she didn’t dress like Hamburglar at a masquerade ball.

Driscus Du Plessis Submitted Israel Adesanya At UFC 305 To Retain The Middleweight Title

du plessis (1)
Getty Image

Driscus Du Plessis (22-2) submitted Israel Adesanya (24-4) to retain the middleweight championship at UFC 305 from the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Adesanya was one step ahead of the champ early in the first round. Du Plessis continued to rush in, finding openings occasionally with big right hand shots. Adesanya chipped away with a body shot just before the end of the round.

To open the second, both fighters seemed to be evenly matched. Du Plessis managed to get Adesanya to the ground and took his back, but the challenger found his way out of a rear naked choke and back to his feet. Du Plessis tried to go back to Adesanya’s back without a ton of success through the end of the round.

In the third, Adesanya avoided takedowns and began to find his range. He hit a spinning back elbow that seemed to stun the champ momentarily. Du Plessis continued to rush Adesanya, overwhelming him with speed and size. Toward the end of the round, Du Plessis was gassed as the challenger continued to chip his way back to UFC gold.

Adesanya worked up top and the body with a swift combination before Du Plessis shot for a takedown to no avail. Du Plessis had nothing left in his arms as he continued to eat shots from Adesanya. He hurt the challenger late in the round, swarmed him with shots, got a takedown, and earned the submission victory by taking his back (watch the video here and here).

Du Plessis turned down the UFC’s first offer for a title fight against Adesanya last September, with the champ ultimately dropping the title to Sean Strickland. Du Plessis came into Saturday night unbeaten in his UFC career, with two knockout victories over former title contenders last year in Derek Brunson and Robert Whittaker, and a decision win over Strickland.

The UFC 305 main event offered the scene for Adesanya’s return to the Octagon for the first time since he lost to Strickland.
