Coi Leray And Pharrell Have Swag That’s ‘Not In The Store’ In Their Animated Video For ‘Doodles’

In September, the “Stoodio” behind Doodles is premiering an animated feature, Dullsville And The Doodleverse, with a soundtrack curated by the brand’s Chief Brand Officer Pharrell Williams. Today, they’ve released the first single from said soundtrack, “Not In The Store,” featuring Pharrell and Coi Leray. The video is animated in the same cutesy style as the overall Doodleverse, which Coi’s daisy-faced avatar dancing and rapping its way through a colorful fantasy world. Check out the trailer for Dullsville And The Doodleverse below.

In case you haven’t heard of it, Doodles bills itself as “a next-generation entertainment company focused on immersive storytelling through the creation and distribution of live and digital experiences, original content, and lifestyle products.” It started out as an NFT collection on OpenSea, with users buying the cutesy digital avatars (which look like something out of Adventure Time), and using them to interact with other users by way of various platforms like Discord and, eventually, a Doodles metaverse. Picture Roblox by way of those Bored Apes NFTs. Users can apparently dress up their avatars with real-life brands like Adidas and Arizona Tea, which… I guess is one way to do that (you could also just buy the clothes in real life and wear them outside while you touch grass).

Here’s a look at one of the promotional trailers for the project below. You can watch Coi Leray’s “Not In The Store” video above.

A Highly Uncomfortable Blake Lively Interview Sounds More Awkward With New Context

Despite having her own hit movie basically simultaneously as her husband Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively is having a bit of an unlucky week. Reports of a feud between her and her co-star/director Justin Baldoni have only been bouncing around the internet, and on top of that, she has been criticized for how she’s handled the marketing around her movie, which features a heavy domestic violence storyline, a fact that many people seem unaware of.

As with many rumors, this caused internet sleuths to re-examine Lively’s past interviews and press cycles, which has unearthed some controversial moments from the former Gossip Girl actress.

While promoting her 2016 film Cafe Society (directed by Woody Allen), Lively and Parker Posey were doing rounds when Norwegian reporter Kjersti Flaa congratulated her on her “little bump.” Lively was pregnant with her second child at the time, and she quickly responded to the interviewer, “Congrats on your little bump!” which was met with an awkward laugh.

This week, Flaa uploaded the video to her YouTube channel with the title “The Blake Lively interview that made me want to quit my job,” which now has over a million views, not counting the rounds it made on Twitter and TikTok. Flaa told The Daily Mail that the comment was “traumatizing” and made her rethink her career. “To be honest, it hurts because I obviously wasn’t pregnant and I could never get pregnant. So to me that comment was like a bullet,” Flaa explained. For a lot of the interview, Lively and Posey continue to talk to each other instead of addressing the interviewer. Fans online have argued that Flaa shouldn’t have commented on the pregnancy at all.

Flaa said that she had been asked to do the interview for her job, and the ordeal made her feel like a “complete failure.” She added, “It was such a traumatizing experience to me. I was there to do a job, and they made sure to make it as difficult as possible for me to do that. I was invited to meet them. It certainly did not feel like that. I felt belittled and ignored, and it made me question if I ever wanted to do these types of interviews again.”

Flaa has since gone on to interview the likes of Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman, so it’s a good thing she kept her job.

‘The Last Of Us’ Addition Kaitlyn Dever Reportedly Needed Extra Security To Protect Her From Angry Video Game ‘Fans’

Kaitlyn Dever
Getty Image

When casting for an already-established role, many fans try to take matters into their own hands by campaigning for their favorites to star, mostly through the power of social media. When it was announced that the popular video game The Last Of Us would be getting a TV adaptation, fans of the video game series were giving their two cents with regard to casting. But sometimes, fans take it too far and forget that these are actual people, not characters, who are up for these roles.

For season two of the hit series, Booksmart‘s Kaitlyn Dever was cast as Abby, the controversial villain opposite Joel and Ellie. Obviously, Abby is an antagonist, but the fans of the series were reportedly taking her role too seriously. Isabela Merced, who appears in season two as Dina, Ellie’s love interest (who was also met with backlash of her own) said that the frenzy surrounding the casting led to increased security on set for Dever.

While appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast ahead of her film Alien: Romulus, Merced said that Dever “had to be extra secured by security when it came to the filming of [season 2]” due to the negativity from fans. Merced said that there are “so many strange people” who “genuinely hate Abby,” despite her being a fictional character from a video game. The actress added, “Just a reminder, [she’s] not a real person,” Merced said.

In the finale of the first season, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) end up with the Fireflies, who wanted to sacrifice Ellie to find a cure for the Cordyceps fungus that already wiped out most of the world. Joel ended up killing many of the Fireflies, including Abby’s dad. In season two, which will follow a five-year time jump, Abby seeks justice for her father’s death.

Abby might not be a real person, but Dever is. Merced said that Dever “does not get phased by things,” but it’s only going to make her a better actor. “It’s devastating to see,” Merced added. “But also – give her the damn Emmy, honestly. I’m so excited for people to see how incredibly well Bella and Kaitlyn did on this. I’m so excited.”

The Last Of Us season two will hit HBO in 2025.

‘Fallout’ Star Ella Purnell Doesn’t ‘Understand’ Twerking, But That Didn’t Stop Her From Trying

fallout show
prime video

Fallout star Ella Purnell is a talented actress and the queen of the video game show. But she probably won’t be playing a dancer any time soon.

“i went on a girls trip to miami and I still don’t understand twerking but boy are we tanned,” she wrote on Instagram, along with photos of her attempted twerking, which I hear is illegal in south Florida. Hopefully the authorities cut her some slack, though. There’s not a lot of time for dancing when you’re wandering a post-apocalyptic world filled with cannibals and Ghouls.

You can see the Instagram post here.

Previously, Purnell talked about her life and work ambitions — which don’t include twerking lessons — in an interview with Nylon. “I always knew I wanted to travel,” she said. “I always knew I wanted a dog. I always knew I wanted to be one of these people that is spontaneous and wears cool clothes and cooks and throws dinner parties. I hope that my career continues long into, fingers crossed, my 70s. God forbid, my bloody 80s! It feels just like a part of who I am. I can’t imagine my life without a purpose.”

Purnell also teased that she’s game for anything in Fallout season 2. “Writers own this arse,” she said. “I will do anything they write for me. If she turns into a manic serial killer, I’ll just find a way to justify that.” There’s no premiere date, but another one of Purnell’s shows, Starz’s Sweetpea, should see the light of day by the end of the year.

‘Alien: Romulus’ Director Fede Álvarez’s Previous Theatrical Hits And Where To Watch Them

alien romulus
20th Century Studios

Alien: Romulus, which is set between Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) and James Cameron’s Aliens (1986) within an expansive franchise, is already roaring at the box office after preview night. If you find yourself feeling pumped for more cinema after arriving home from the Fede Álvarez-directed, Ridley-Scott pleasing flick and have already gotten your fill of the xenomorphs until FX’s Alien TV series, then perhaps you’d be interested in more of this horror IP resuscitator’s work. You’d be in luck.

The frequently terrifying Uruguayan director has not only helmed but also written and produced numerous Spanish-language films and shorts (which we are not discounting), and he’s scored multiple U.S.-based hits that are both outstanding and readily available to stream, well, in the U.S.

Don’t Breathe (2016)

Álvarez’s gift for building tension-filled atmosphere was already at peak level in this thriller about a trio of burglars who receive much more than they bargained for after breaking into a blind veteran’s home (Stephen Lang). Here, he re-teamed with the endlessly versatile Jane Levy, whose Rocky was not only someone that you’d want to have your back when sh*t hits the fan, but you’d probably also not want to turn your back on her in the first place. Co-stars include Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, and a cursed turkey baster. Try not to hold your own breath while watching.

Don’t Breathe grossed $157 million worldwide (on a $9.9 million budget) and is available for rental on Prime Video/Amazon and Apple TV+.

Evil Dead (2013)

This reboot could have gone wrong in so many ways, but fortunately, Álvarez reinvigorated a franchise that didn’t even know it needed more (gory) luster. Jane Levy is a common denominator here as a drug addict whose friends and family are not keen to believe that the Necronomicon Ex-mortis-sparked ill effects that she is (graphically) experiencing are not simply happening in her heroin-addled brain. This film might not have the greatest use of a chainsaw in the entire franchise, but it’s an appearance that will make you whoop with joy.

Evil Dead grossed $97 million worldwide (on a $17 million budget) and is available to stream on Max and Hulu.

Bonus Watch

The Girl In The Spider’s Web (2018): The second Lisbeth Salander film (based upon the fourth The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo book) did not achieve blockbuster heights, nor was it loved by critics, but from a completist’s point of view, this installment of Lisbeth (Claire Foy) against her twin, Camilla (Sylvia Hoeks), is both brutal and shocking to behold. Stream it on Hulu.

Steve Harvey Was Left Confused After Failing To Recognize Two Big-Name Marvel Actors In A ‘Family Feud’ Question

For someone who works in entertainment, Steve Harvey is sort of in his own little world. He shows up to host Family Feud, dabbles in the judicial system, and even has his own line of luxury ties, so you’ll have to forgive him if he doesn’t know about the complex inner workings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or even the actors who are involved. He has ties to make.

On a recent episode of Celebrity Family Feud, American Idol alums Clay Aiken and Katharine McPhee brought their families to battle it out against each other, though it turned into a confusing guessing game for Harvey, as it sometimes does.

When given the prompt “Name a famous Tom that a girl would love to go to the prom with,” your typical Toms were mentioned. Hanks, Brady, Cruise all landed on the board (sorry to Tom Hardy), and this is where it got difficult for the older people in the room.

McPhee guessed Tom Middleston, before correcting herself to Tom Hiddleston, the man known for playing Loki (though she referred to him as the guy who was with Taylor Swift). Harvey seemingly played it cool, even though he quietly asked, “Who?” Hiddleston was not on the board.

Family Feud/ YouTube

Finally, it went back to Aiken’s family, and 15-year-old Parker suggested Tom Holland, who is the youngest of the bunch and the most likely to attend prom, but that went over their heads. Harvey, once again, was confused, but it did end up on the board!

“Who is Tom Holland?” Harvey earnestly asked. Aiken replied, “He’s Spider-Man. Listen, it was the 15-year-old that came up with it, so don’t feel bad, Steve.” He looked like he felt a little bad.

Listen, Harvey doesn’t have time to watch any and every Marvel movie that comes out because he has been carrying Family Feud on his back for over a decade. When he’s not designing his premium silk ties or asking contestants absurd questions, the man needs some rest.

NoCap Is Making Up For Lost Time With ‘Before I Disappear Again’

NoCap 'Before I Disappear Again' interview image

It’s been two years since Alabama rapper NoCap dropped his debut album Mr. Crawford, a project that debuted in the top-10 of the Billboard 200 chart and ensured he’d be a mainstay in the hip-hop community. NoCap’s The Main Bird EP arrived to close 2022, but what came next was a period of silence that only recently came to an end thanks to the long-awaited release of his sophomore album Before I Disappear Again.

“Some people feel like they find themselves when they turn 18 or something, but I don’t think that,” NoCap tells Uproxx as he reflects on his quiet 2023 year. “I’m 25 and I’m still finding myself. I’ve just been working on myself as far as being a father. Even with this cup, I’ve been trying to put that down [and] get better with that. I’ve just been having some me time, but I’m ready to get back to it.”

Before I Disappear Again arrives to add on to what’s been a special year for NoCap. Two months ago, the rapper and his girlfriend gave birth to their first son, Grenayde. “It’s new for me, it’s my first kid, it’s my girl’s first kid too, so it’s new to both of us,” Still, some things have been an easy adjustment for the “Very Special” rapper. “I been not getting no sleep, so it’s cool,” he says with a laugh. “Sometimes, you just got to wake up, do what you got to do, but it’s been smooth overall.”

Together with the release of Before I Disappear Again, Uproxx caught up with NoCap to talk about the new album, his support from fans, music with longtime collaborator Rylo Rodriguez, and why he’s happy to make up for lost time with his fans.

What’s the meaning behind this album’s title, Before I Disappear Again?

Like you said, I’ve been gone for two, three years working on myself [laughs]. Ain’t no telling when I might have to do that again. Hopefully, I don’t disappear again too soon, but ain’t no telling when I have to go back and work on myself again. Yeah, we artists, but at the same time, we live real life. We’re human, we’re not robots. I just get back in that work mode, sometimes I’m worried about myself. That’s all that’s about really.

On “Far From Nigeria,” you say, “Nigeria’s so far from Alabama I swear, but I would visit just to have a talk with Mohbad.” What’s inspired your interest in the country and have you been able to visit?

I ain’t been able to visit because I don’t have my passport due to jail and sh*t. I can get my passport, I’m able to get it, I just ain’t took the time out. We were DMing and sh*t probably like a couple days before that sh*t even happened. When I heard his music, it’s crazy how you can understand somebody way on the other side of the country.

I always wanted to visit Nigeria, because I can run through my comments and DMs all day, and that’s all I see like, “Come to Nigeria, come to Nigeria.” I can’t wait to do that, and I really wanted to talk to Mohbad on some one-on-one time and we were gonna do music together, that’s a true statement. I would have visited to holla at him for sure, and I said that because in our last couple of DMs, he was like, “Hey, give me a call. We need to talk.” So, that’s why I said in that song, “I’ll visit just to talk to Mohbad.”

You remixed D’Yani’s “Feelings” on your album. How did you come across that song and what made you want to put out your own version of it?

I remember a nail got in my tire. I remember being at the tire shop, I had just got my tire done and sh*t, and my girl was on the Bluetooth. The song was playing, I never heard the song, but I was vibing to the song. So she looked at me and laughed like I was joking. I’m like, nah, I really f*ck with this song. I just heard him, his vocals, and sh*t, and how the song was vibing. Jada Kingdom, she’s on the original version, so I had DM’ed him ASAP like, bro, I love this song, send me the open verse [and] let me replace Jada verse. Jada verse hard, but I heard myself on it too. He sent it to me, I knocked it out, sent it back to him, and I told him I’ll put it on the album. He said it’s a go.

I really think it’s different because the song is already out, usually people don’t do that. I just felt like I could add some more to it [and] get a US fan base on it. Jada, she’s from out the country too, so I just felt like it’ll put a street-slash-US fan base on it. I never had that international verse, so I needed that. Shoutout D’Yani for sure.

There’s a funny clip at the end of “Judge The Jury” with a fan voicing their support for you, going as far as to say they’d go broke to see you. What do die-hard fans like this mean to you on your journey as an artist?

It mean everything, bro. I remember when it was a time when nobody gave a f*ck. So no matter how far I get, I always take myself out them shoes and realize my music really helps people, it really heals people. That’s why I be rushing to get this music out, too. I usually don’t do too much promo and no interviews, none of that, because I really just be so focused on the music bro, and trying to feed my fans with the music because I feel like there’s certain sh*t they never gave a damn about. They just want to hear me rapping. So when fans do stuff like that, it mean everything to me. To walk in these venues and sell these venues out alone on my own tour, I don’t have to be on nobody tour — it’s good for me to be on other people tour — but even when I’m alone, without dropping music, I can still go sell these venues out. My fans, that’s who pay me, and I pay them back.

You have two songs with Rylo on this project, which adds to a long list of collabs you have together. What makes it so easy with between y’all when it comes to making it music and could we see another project from you two in the future?

You gonna see Rogerville 2 from us, for sure. We’ve been doing it before anything. We was locking in every night with Gino. Ain’t too much going on in the city, we really ain’t got nothing else to do but hit the studio six, seven at night to 10 in the morning. We sleeping on the floor in the studio, like this was around them times, we waking up recording. We just locked in all night.

I always knew we had the vision, I ain’t gonna say I knew how big it would get, but I always knew we had the vision. Sometimes, I just be wanting our respect. The stamp we put on this game, I don’t feel like we get the [respect] that we should get. We been locked in, so every time we do lock in now, it’s still the same — it ain’t nothing different. That’s still my brother, it’s love. He working, I’m working, but when we link up, we still coming. Rogerville every time.

What would you say is the biggest difference in the experience you had crafting Mr. Crawford versus the experience you had making Before I Disappear Again?

That was the beginning stage of me trying to turn into a business. That’s why I named that Mr. Crawford. That was the beginning stage of that. Now, I’m to the point where I feel like I’ve handled a small portion of that, so now I can really focus back on this music.

I just feel like it’s for everybody bro. I got four trap songs, I got four acoustic songs, I got four girl songs spaced out for everybody. I feel like whoever clicks on this album will be able to at least like four songs if you don’t like certain types of genres. It’s all types of genres on there, there’s something everybody can get with.

Through the highs and lows of being an artist, what keeps you going and wanting to continue making music and project after project?

Really because at this point, besides my son bro, music is the only thing a n**** got. That’s why I put my heart into it so much. I just appreciate my fans so much, that’s why I gotta keep going. I done seen n****s get in this game [and then] two, three years [later], you never hear from them again. For me to still be lasting without dropping music, it let me know it’s destined for me. Some fans wouldn’t give a f*ck about another artist not dropping. The comments, it be a little discouraging sometimes, but at the same time, I always look at them like they still waiting on me. It’s a lot of people who they not waiting on. That’s really what keeps me going.

What’s up next for you now that this album is finally coming out into the world?

For sure, touring out the gate, gotta go see the world again. Gotta go see the people who love me. If I don’t do my tour first, I might jump on Rod Wave’s tour and then come back and do my own tour.

Before I Disappear Again is out now via Atlantic Records. Find out more information here.

Lil Yachty And Veeze Are Unapologetic About Their Lifestyles In The ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ Video

Lil Yacthy has taken a hiatus from social media, but not from the booth. Today (August 16), two of the “Hate Me” rapper’s latest collaborations hit streaming platforms.

As an added bonus, Lil Yachty’s joint track with Veeze, “Sorry Not Sorry,” arrived with an official video presented by Lyrical Lemonade.

The moody visual — co-directed by AMD and Little Miles — has one purpose: to show both recording artists in their elements. As Veeze enjoys a double-cup drink, he lists off what he’s being able to accomplish with his fame.

“I done popped out, feelin’ like Odd Future, Tyler, the Creator my Luis / Them boys ain’t smoked like five opps, that’s a whole pack of loose-leaf / This eighth came straight from auntie / We pink slip boys, no car lease / My cup all pink like a Barbie / I’m sorry, not sorry like Beyoncé,” raps Veeze.

In his verse, Lil Yachty puts up what Veeze laid down in the record’s opening. “I got seven homes filled with clothes, Sauce on the way in this b*tch / I ain’t talkin’ ’bout no TV shows, but I still got Bear in this bitch / I had to figure it out the hard way, no, I don’t care, lil’ b*tch / I never talk sh*t online, but check it in real life, I’ll never struggle again / I done helped out my mans / I put my mom in a brand new Benz,” raps Yachty.

He makes it clear that he hears on the online chatter, but frankly he just doesn’t care.

LA Reid’s Motion To Have The Sexual Assault Case Against Him Dropped Was Denied

la reid

The sexual assault case against LA Reid may move forward after a judge denied his motion to have the lawsuit dismissed. According to Vibe, Reid’s attorney argued that according to several sections of New York’s Penal Law, the case ought to be thrown out, claiming that plaintiff Drew Dixon was using the Adult Survivors Act to blame Reid for her own recent career downturn. However, Dixon’s lawyers successfully argued that the claims were “inappropriate” and “a waste of the court’s time,” with Judge Valerie Caproni denying the motion to dismiss.

“It is difficult to understand any prejudice caused by additional citations to other portions of Article 130,” she said. “Because Defendant has not met his burden, his Motion to Strike is denied.” Article 130 is the section of the New York Penal Law dealing with sexual assault cases.

In March, Reid and Dixon tried to negotiate a settlement, but those talks were unable to come to a satisfactory conclusion for both parties. Reid was previously accused of sexual assault back in 2017, causing Reid to be ousted from his position as CEO at Epic Records. He since launched his own music imprint. Dixon filed her lawsuit in November 2023, just a few weeks after a slew of similar suits came out about fellow executive Diddy.
