Joggers Have Reached Blue Jean Level Wardrobe Staple Status — Here Is Why Under Armour’s Are A Current Favorite

Joggers Have Reached Blue Jean Level (1024x450)
Under Armour/Uproxx

There isn’t a single piece of clothing that is more defining of 20th-century fashion than the denim blue jeans. While first introduced in the late 1800s as a functional gold-rush-friendly pair of trousers designed for miners, jeans really took hold of youth culture throughout the later half of the 1900s. Try to imagine the 50s greaser, the 60s hippie, the bell-bottom age of the 70s, the commercialization of punk rock and the hair metal bands of the ’80s, and the hip-hop of the 90s without blue jeans.

It just wouldn’t look the same. Not even close.

That got us thinking — what is going to be the defining look of the 21st century? We’re already two and a half decades in and while it’s probably too soon to say, we’re going to go ahead and predict that the defining piece of 21st-century fashion, like the blue jeans of the 20th century, are joggers. Yes. Joggers.

A staple piece of the dominating fashion trend of the 21st century so far — athleisure — joggers are neutral enough to be a highly functional piece of any wardrobe, allowing you to transition from the field to the streets to everywhere in between. That sounds a lot like blue jeans to us!

Which begs the question — where are you getting your joggers from? Because if you’re not shopping Under Armour’s Unstoppable collection, you’re missing out on some of the best tech-focused fashion-forward joggers currently on the market.

To help you level up your wardrobe before college classes start up again, we’re highlighting two of our favorite joggers from the Unstoppable collection.

Men’s UA Unstoppable Joggers

Under Armour

Price: $90

UA’s Unstoppable Joggers have the sort of tech-forward functionality that has become expected of the brand. The joggers utilize UA’s Storm technology, which repels water and liquids without suffocating you, providing breathability courtesy of a 4-way stretch woven fabric. That keeps these joggers light, durable, and comfort-focused, making them ideal for both athletic endeavors and stepping out on the town.

The joggers drop in six colorways, our favorite is the Coyote, which features earthy tones that are neutral enough to pair with all sorts of different outfits. In keeping with modern trends, the joggers also feature a fuller loose cut, giving you that tapered look at the ankle, but a lot of room throughout for ultimate comfort.

Women’s UA Unstoppable Joggers

Under Armour

Price: $80

The Unstoppable Joggers aren’t just available for Men, UA has a women’s sized variation that features a few key differences. The joggers are made from the same 4-way stretch woven material but feature three colorways and a larger size run from XXS to 3XL.

The main body fabric on these women’s joggers are made from 90% recycled polyester, giving them a sustainable edge and featuring a sweat-wicking, fast-drying material, as well as an elastic waistband to cinch at the waist for a more flattering silhouette.

Men’s UA Unstoppable Fleece Grid Joggers

Under Armour

Price: $110

The Men’s Fleece Grid Joggers are closing out our list, offering the same fleece build, 4-way stretch, fast drying, and moisture-wicking technology, but with a looser fit and a textured design. The textured elements come via a waffle-grid-like pattern at the thighs that extends to the back of the pants and ends at the calf line.

The joggers are equipped with open hand pockets and an extra zip pocket on the right thigh to protect whatever valuables you’re carrying.

Which ‘Alien’ Movies Should You Watch Before ‘Alien: Romulus’?

ALIEN
FOX

To the untrained eye, the Alien franchise might seem like a run-of-the-mill space story with a horrifying monster. But every Alien movie has its own place in the series, with important tidbits of information sandwiched in between horrifying alien sequences and sometimes screaming children. They are all worth the watch, but if you haven’t seen any of them and need a debrief before Alien: Romulus, you might want to do your research.

Alien: Romulus is technically a standalone film that takes place in the Alien universe with a new set of characters, so if you have no Alien experience, you will still enjoy the movie. Of course, that doesn’t mean there won’t be callbacks or easter eggs (maybe some real eggs too) but you don’t need to marathon all six other films in the franchise before heading to the theaters…unless you want to.

If you have no experience whatsoever with the Alien franchise, starting with Alien is the best way to dive in. Not only will it give you a good scare, but it will also provide the right amount of context. Alien: Romulus takes place in between Alien and Aliens, meaning that if you go in with just Alien under your belt, you’ll probably still enjoy the experience. They you can head home and watch Aliens right after. To take it one step even further, you can check out the video game Alien: Isolation, which also takes place after the events of Alien.

For even more world-building, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant tells the rich backstory and mythology of the series. Both of those take place way before the Alien we know. For more action, you can check out the Alien vs. Predator series, though its existence is controversial amongst fans.

To recap: Alien is a must-watch before Romulus, but after that it’s really up to you, depending on how much context you need. While Aliens takes place after Romulus, is often considered the best in the series, so it won’t take away from your experience if you chose to watch it before. All you truly need to know is that these aliens are… not nice.

Chance The Rapper Won’t Release ‘Star Line’ Until Fans Stop Telling Him To ‘Drop The Album’

Chance The Rapper has been teasing his new project, Star Line, for quite a while, but during a recent livestream chat, he gave his fans a condition for its release: They must call it by its proper name instead of demanding he “drop the album.”

“Alright, so this was the main point I was trying to make,” he explained. “Stop calling it the album. And I don’t mean that in an ungrateful way. I’m grateful that people are putting in my comments, ‘Drop the album.’ I’m not going to drop the album until y’all start calling it Star Line.”

He elaborated, “That’s for all the other artists. That’s for all everybody else, whose work I also appreciate. But what I’m doing is something different. It’s something very specific. It’s called Star Line… I’ve been saying one specific phrase for coming up on two or three years now… If y’all say, ‘Drop Star Line enough, it’s going to make me drop Star Line… I don’t know what the album is. I know about a Star Line.”

As recently as June, Chance said that the album is either “83,” “83.5,” or “82.7” percent finished, while in late July, he hosted a listening event to give fans a preview of just what the project might consist of. He’s also released several songs already, including “Buried Alive,” “Together,” and “Stars Out,” in addition to the “Writing Exercise” freestyles that showed off his progress with his pen in response to fans’ lukewarm reception of his last album, The Big Day.

Indie Mixtape 20: Wishy Hit The Jackpot On ‘Triple Seven’

Wishy FEATURED
Alexa Viscius

Wishy have hit the jackpot with Triple Seven. Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites, the main songwriting partnership at the core of the Indiana-bred group, mine alt-rock’s various ‘90s offshoots – dream pop, shoegaze, and even Britpop – to create a sound of their own. Now, rounded out with a full band consisting of guitarist Dimitri Morris, bassist Mitch Collins, and drummer Conner Host, Wishy fully realize their vision on their full-length debut.

From the shimmery guitar strums of the title track to the dreamy back-and-forth vocals Krauter and Pitchkites share on “Persuasion,” Triple Seven is full of moments that crystallize Wishy as one of the best new bands in indie rock writ large. They are by no means wishy-washy.

Ahead of the record’s release this Friday, Krauter and Pitchkites sat down with Uproxx to talk about Alvvays, Avril Lavigne, and the best Indian food in Indianapolis in our latest Q&A.

What are four words you would use to describe your music?

Krauter: Crazy, sexy, colorful, energetic.

It’s 2050 and the world hasn’t ended and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

Krauter: As the kind of music that makes people feel happy and full of life.

Who’s the person who has most inspired your work, and why?

Pitchkites: I’m incredibly inspired by Molly Rankin from Alvvays. Her lyrics are so intentional and genuine without being too on the nose. They have just the right amount of whimsy and cheekiness which is something I always strive for in my writing.

Where did you eat the best meal of your life and what was it?

Krauter: Little India at 52nd and College in Indianapolis. The butter chicken… unbelievable.

Tell us about the best concert you’ve ever attended.

Pitchkites: That’s a hard one but it might have to be Caroline Polachek who I saw last year. Her raw talent really shows live. To be able to sing the way she does, move around the stage, while also incorporating a theatrical element is very inspiring.

What song never fails to make you emotional?

Krauter: “I’m With You” – Avril Lavigne

What’s the last thing you Googled?

Krauter: Faeries by Brian Froud used copy for sale

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever crashed while on tour?

Krauter: We drove through the night once on the way to NYC from Cincinnati and we all took long naps in the recliner chairs at the King Spa in New Jersey.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform and what’s the city you hope to perform in for the first time?

Pitchkites: Sounds cliche but probably LA. I just love being there and I get to see some familiar faces. I would love to play in Tokyo or Singapore very soon!

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Pitchkites: Quit worrying about the future so much!

What’s one of your hidden talents?

Pitchkites: I’ve been told I can do a very convincing Yoshi impression.

If you had a million dollars to donate to charity, what cause would you support and why?

Krauter: The complete and total liberation of Palestine from apartheid occupation. Noam Chomsky has a terrific lecture from 2011 on the subject.

What are your thoughts about AI and the future of music?

Pitchkites: I think AI can have its benefits in areas outside of art. I’m pretty anti AI as it pertains to the creation of music or pretty much any artistic medium. It’s kind of oxymoronic to use it for that purpose when art’s sole purpose is to heal the human spirit and allow us to relate to one another. There’s also plenty of real, human artists who can create art (and get paid) that is leagues beyond anything AI can do. The good news is I think most people feel this way so I’m not too worried about it replacing human talent.

You are throwing a music festival. Give us the dream lineup of 5 artists that will perform with you and the location it would be held.

Krauter: The Bats, The Sundays, Ivy, Hole, The Radio Dept. Location: someone’s barbecue

Who’s your favorite person to follow on social media?

Pitchkites: @servideo— hilarious stuff.

What’s the story behind your first or favorite tattoo?

Pitchkites: I just got a tattoo from my friend Kaitlin that’s a sketch they did of Arthur Russell’s album Love Is Overtaking Me, easily one of my all-time favorite records.

What is your pre-show ritual?

Krauter: Hacky sack with the band.

Who was your first celebrity crush?

Pitchkites: Jeremy Sumpter in the live action Peter Pan (2003).

You have a month off and the resources to take a dream vacation. Where are you going and who is coming with you?

Krauter: Somewhere tropical with the love of my life.

What is your biggest fear?

Pitchkites: Living with regret.

Triple Seven is out 8/16 via Winspear. Find more information here.

Cash Cobain’s Remix Of Laila!’s ‘Problem’ Features A Massive List Of Guests Including 6lack, Big Sean, Flo Milli, And More

cash cobain

Does anyone else remember those 2000s mega-mixes of songs like “I’m So Hood” and “One Blood?” A popular rap song would get a remix that featured WAY too many guest stars, running the gamut from dancehall deejays to R&B court jesters like T-Pain. They were a sort of much more obnoxious version of rap supercrew posse cuts geared toward drawing in as many of the featured artists’ fans as possible to extend the life of a smash way beyond its normal expiration date.

Well, Gen Z finally has its version of this, courtesy of Cash Cobain and Laila! On “Problem,” the sample drill pioneer remixes the second-gen rapper‘s TikTok hit “Not My Problem” into a prime example of the form, adding in verses from a gaggle of game MCs ranging from blog rap vets 6lack and Big Sean to teen star Luh Tyler. Even mixtape staple Fabolous gets a look, while gender parity is provided by Atlanta rapper Anycia, Flo Milli, Kaliii, and Lay Bankz. New Yorker Kelz2busy, Don Q, and Kenzo B round out the Big Apple roster, while New Orleans rising star Rob49 completes the cipher. In the interest of keeping things short enough to appeal to the target demo, the verses are kept to bite size snippets, bringing in the whole thing at seven minutes — five shorter than “One Blood,” so there’s that, at least.

You can check out “Problem” below.

Nilüfer Yanya Undergoes ‘Mutations’ On Her Transformative New Single

We’re now almost exactly a month out from My Method Actor, the new Nilüfer Yanya album that’s set to drop on September 13. She shared the single “Call It Love” last month, and now she has returned with another advance taste via “Mutations.”

Yanya says of the song:

“‘Mutations’ deals with change brought about by circumstance. This is not the phoenix rising from the ashes but the subtle change that happens constantly as millions of tiny decisions and actions shape your being. It’s kind of like survival, for me. Less of a transformation and more something that’s born out of your environment and surroundings, that you need to do to survive. Mutation is just something you have to go through — you have to evolve.”

She also previously said of the new album, “The reason why some people find method acting traumatic and maybe not safe mentally, is because you’re always going back to that moment. It can be good or bad but you’re always feeding off the energy, something that’s defined you — and that’s what helps you become the character. It’s a bit like being a musician. When you’re performing, you’re still trying to invoke the energy and emotion of when you first wrote it, in that moment. It definitely feels like you’re having to recreate or step into that headspace.”

Japandroids Share A Riotous Yet Wistful New Song, ‘D&T,’ From The Band’s Final Album

Japandroids are taking one last trip down fire’s highway. “D&T” is the roaring new single from the Canadian duo of Brian King and David Prowse, who previously announced that their next album, Fate & Alcohol, will also be their final album. The song is a fist-in-the-air, nostalgic barn-burner, which is to say, it’s a Japandroids song.

“D&T” came together after “we had been on the road for a year and a half, and the plan was to wrap up our riot of indulgence with a four-night stand in Philly,” King shared. “We arrived early, exhausted and disheveled, voices shot, hearts parched, and while we had every intention of easing into it, someone inevitably called all-hands-to-the-bar and away we went. One before-breakfast eye-opener turned into two and pretty soon I was pleasantly jingled.”

He continued, “With soundcheck still hours away, I decided that a walk was in order and slipped outside under the guise of a cigarette. Half a block later, I was stopped by an intangible stranger who politely remarked that he had seen plenty of drinkin’ Johnnies and cokey Joes aimlessly exploring the streets of Philadelphia, but I took the cake. He prescribed Jesus and water, which I solemnly acknowledged. Sheepishly, I returned to my stool and upon seeing my reflection in the mirror behind the bar became wistful and started writing.”

That is a very Japandroids origin story.

Listen to “D&T” above.

Fate & Alcohol is out 10/18 via ANTI. Find more information here.

Zoë Kravitz Was Surprised By The People Who Were Most ‘Offended’ By The Original Title For ‘Blink Twice’

As far as I can tell, there has not been a major motion picture with the word “p*ssy” in the title since 2001’s Josie and the Pussycats, and before then, maybe 1970’s The Owl and the Pussycat. Blink Twice could have joined this veritable “p*ssy posse” (not to be confused with this one) if it kept the original title that writer and director Zoë Kravitz wanted and even mentioned in interviews: P*ssy Island. But, as you might imagine, she met some resistance.

“I mean, look, we got pretty far,” she told Esquire about the unfortunate decision to change the title to Blink Twice. So what happened? The studio said no, basically. Kravitz is fine with the new title, but “am I upset that there is a show called Dicks: The Musical? Kind of,” she said. “What’s interesting is that they tested the title and the people who were most offended were women.”

Since the studio said no to P*ssy Island, hopefully they at least agreed to pay for a Blink 182 song (not “Dick Lips”) on the Blink Twice soundtrack.

Here’s more on the movie:

When tech billionaire Slater King meets cocktail waitress Frida at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. No one wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. There is something wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.

Blink Twice, which stars Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Kyle MacLachlan, Geena Davis, and Alia Shawkat, opens in theaters on August 23.

Janet Jackson Reveals Her Unreal List Of Celebrity Relatives (Aside From The Obvious Ones)

Janet Jackson is of course a member of one of entertainment history’s most famous families: The Jackson family. So, she counts Michael Jackson and others among her relatives. It turns out that her family tree is even more star-studded than that, though, as she just revealed.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills (find a video clip here), Jackson was asked about the rumor that she’s related to Stevie Wonder and she confirmed it’s true, saying, “He’s our cousin.” She added, “Not a lot of people know that. He’s our cousin on my mother’s side. So is Tracy Chapman. So is Samuel [L.] Jackson.”

Meanwhile, following reports that Jackson had signed a deal for a Las Vegas concert residency, a representative reportedly confirmed the news with a statement, saying, “We are thrilled to announce Janet’s upcoming residency at Resorts World Las Vegas. This partnership offers a unique opportunity to celebrate her legacy and deliver unforgettable performances. The energy and excitement of Las Vegas, especially around the holiday season, make it the perfect setting for this new chapter. Janet is excited to connect with her fans and bring her iconic music to life in a fresh and dynamic way.”
