Fronted by the incomparable Meg Remy, US Girls are flat out one of the best live acts in the world. The Toronto group’s ability to express themselves through expert musicality, surreal rhythms, and an undying commitment to the many forms of movement, have rendered them nothing short of an essential live band. Where 2018’sIn A Poem Unlimited proved to be their breakthrough (the band’s sixth album, mind you), 2020’s Heavy Light cemented their stalwart status.
Today, US Girls release “Good Kinda High,” a single which appears on the deluxe edition of the Uninvited Guests compilation, devoted to the late, great Canadian pianist, Glenn Gould, who made a name for himself as a progressive musical savant who was often shunned by classical musical community types. The project itself is the brainchild of producer Billy Wild and his Toronto-based Division 88 collective, in an effort to pair samples of Gould’s with contemporary artists. Wild said in a statement that the project “started 7 years ago as a challenge on whether or not Glenn Gould could be made to sound current. The main thing I learned on Gould is that he truly belonged in this generation.”
You might otherwise realize that “Good Kinda High” is merged with Gould’s music when you hear Remy’s always arresting vocals as the track begins. But she wrote her lyrics to a beat produced by Wild and relaxed hip-hop producer Gabriel Pick. Gould’s piano is a steady presence on the track which feels as dark as an Eastern European horror novel. In fact, Remy said, “I like to imagine Gould and I as two freaks on the same leash. Trying to be invisible trying to be seen.”

During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, host Joe Rogan demanded that Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, tell him why the news network “lied” about him taking horse dewormer to treat COVID-19 (even though he literally took horse dewormer to treat COVID-19). “Why would they lie and say that’s horse dewormer? I can afford people medicine, motherf*cker,” Rogan said. “It’s ridiculous! It’s just a lie! Don’t you think that a lie like that is dangerous on a news network when you know that they know they’re lying?” Dr. Gupta admitted that “they shouldn’t have said that,” but CNN has since released a statement defending itself.
The heart of this debate has been purposely confused and ultimately lost. It’s never been about livestock versus human dosage of Ivermectin. The issue is that a powerful voice in the media, who by example and through his platform, sowed doubt in the proven and approved science of vaccines while promoting the use of an unproven treatment for covid-19 — a drug developed to ward off parasites in farm animals. The only thing CNN did wrong here was bruise the ego of a popular podcaster who pushed dangerous conspiracy theories and risked the lives of millions of people in doing so.
Dang, that last sentence, although as the Post notes, “CNN’s statement sounds more like the work of an advocacy group than a journalism outfit… If we take Rogan’s prescription claim at face value — and CNN hasn’t challenged it — then the network’s coverage was slanted in some cases and straight-up incorrect in others.”
Pink Sweats is slowly making a return to the spotlight just months after he released his debut album, Pink Planet. It’s a project that delivered 18 songs, with a lone guest appearance from Kehlani, to fans. It’s also an effort that arrived after three EPs: Volume 1, Volume 2, and The Prelude. Fast-forward to the present and the Philly singer is back with his second song in as many weeks with “Nothing Feels Better.” The singer’s near-acoustic sound serves as the landscape for a romantic message to a partner he’s head over heels for as their love helped him “realize I’m right where I should be.”
Prior to “Nothing Feels Better,” Pink Sweats touched down with “I Feel Good,” a track that found him appreciating the world around him and how great life is to him nowadays. It all comes amid a spike in activity for him. He recently made an appearance on The Eye, a new series that allows up-and-coming artists to their breakout songs in beautiful and minimalistic environments. There he performed “At My Worst,” “Heaven,” and “Paradise” and also spoke about his debut Pink Planet.
He described the project as “an album about one of the most timeless emotions… love. I wanted to express my love about someone I truly love and document that.”

The grind never stops for Lil Tjay. The New York rapper is just a few months removed from sharing his second album, Destined 2 Win, with the world. The project debuted at No. 5 on the album charts, which tied a personal record for the highest position. Destined 2 Win also gave him his highest-charting song thanks to “Calling My Phone” with 6lack. After basking in the success of the album for some time, Lil Tjay is back in action with new music and it comes in the form of his new single “Not In The Mood” featuring Fivio Foreign and Kay Flock.
The new track finds the trio of rappers pushing as hard as they can to overcome life’s obstacles. “I almost gave up every other day / We made a way,” Tjay raps on the song. “We never relate, it’s big food for the plate / It’s time to go drill, I never do dates.” The tunnel-visioned approach to consistent success is emulated by Fivio Foreign and Kay Flock, who provide verses of their own on “Not In The Mood.”
Lil Tjay drops off the new song after teaming up with Joyner Lucas for a raunchy video to their collaboration, “Untold Stories.” Prior to that, he teamed with Bas and J. Cole for “The Jackie” and appeared on G Herbo’s fourth album, 25, on a track titled “Cry No More” that also featured Polo G.
When Sia released her now-Platinum album This Is Acting in 2016, the unexpected collab with dancehall-pop demigod Sean Paul was an unexpected union, but a major hit nonetheless. The Aussie and the Jamaican felt like polar opposites musically speaking, but it was their shared spirit for collaborative pop music that rendered the track one that crossed cultural boundaries and made it a bona fide smash.
Five years later, the pair have linked again on Paul’s track “Dynamite,” a dance-floor riddim shaker if there ever was one. It’s the kind of song that no matter where you’re listening to it, you might as well be transporting yourself to a beachside discotheque. Rest assured, this one’s got worldwide mileage, co-produced by Montreal duo Banx & Ranx and mega-beatminder Greg Kurstin (who coincidentally, also produced “Cheap Thrills”). At the hook’s onset, the Sia sings “Light me up! Set me free,” ranging hard as she holds the final syllable.
And while Paul released the dancehall-forward Live N Livin this past March, it’s “Dynamite” that is set to leave the lasting mark in 2021. The gracious Jamaican added some thoughts on the track:
“‘Dynamite’ started out as just a good vibe song. After recording ‘Cheap Thrills,’ Sia and I knew we would record another single and ‘Dynamite’ is the second installment. Banx and Ranx, Greg Kurstin, myself and Sia, worked on this single and I hope people gravitate towards it like our first single. ‘Dynamite’ is another feel good record for me and I just want to thank Sia and her entire team, my team Duttyrock, my management team and big up my mom who introduced me to Sia’s music.”
Jazzy Jeff Goldblum (no really, he’s a best-selling jazz artist these days) came to fame while unbuttoning his shirt during the first Jurassic Park movie. These days, however, Jeff’s pursuing more intellectually curious endeavors, and that’s going down on his delightfully quirky National Geographic show that streams on Disney+. There’s really good news, too. After exploring the origins of ice cream, denim, recreational vehicles and more during The World According To Jeff Goldblum, the host is about to dance into your heart for another round of episodes.
Disney Day (November 12) shall be the landing day for more awe-filled, joyous moments full of wonder. You aren’t ready for all this charm and coolness from the star of Independence Day and The Fly and Thor: Ragnarok. Even if you’re ready, we all may not be worthy, but few could resist the charisma on display. From the season’s synopsis, here’s what’s going down for the sophomore season.
In the first five episodes of the second season, Jeff continues to act as our playful and inquisitive guide to uncover more surprising secrets about seemingly familiar topics and take viewers on delightful journeys to discover the “whys” of magic, fireworks, monsters, dogs, and dance.
The World According To Jeff Goldblum returns on November 12.
Just like a lot of artists around the world in a number of genres, Elton John spent his time in quarantine working on a plethora of new music. As a result, the legendary singer decided to create a project out of the songs he made during that time, one he titled The Lockdown Sessions. He announced the project at the beginning of September, and today, it’s available for fans to listen to. Across the project’s sixteen songs, a highlight appears on “Always Love You” with Young Thug and Nicki Minaj. The track sees the trio committing to a lifelong partnership with individuals they’ve deemed perfect to spend a lifetime with.
Prior to releasing The Lockdown Sessions, Elton John shared a number of singles to build up anticipation for the project. They include “Finish Line, “After All,” and a remix of “Cold Heart.” Altogether, the project also sees appearances from Dua Lipa, Surfaces, Charlie Puth, Rina Sawayama, Gorillaz, 6lack, Miley Cyrus, SG Lewis, Brandi Carlile, Jimmie Allen, Stevie Wonder, Eddie Vedder, Stevie Nicks, and more.
While “Always Love You” marks the first song between Elton and Minaj, it’s the second record between him and Young Thug following their 2018 track “High,” which sampled the singer’s hit song “Rocket Man.”

Fall is truly upon us in most parts of the country, and if you’re not out there enjoying your local Oktoberfest, you’re probably looking for some distractions before the stress of holiday season (with all of its inherent family togetherness) begins. Fortunately, Netflix pushed out several options this week to keep you entertained, including a little bit of obligatory spooky flavor. That would include Night Teeth, which revolves around a group of hard-partying vampires (including Megan Fox), who ain’t The Lost Boys. Then there’s the newest of many adult animated series up for grabs, since one can never get enough of famous voices telling dirty jokes.
Several other offerings join the streaming service as well, as you’ll see below. And be sure to check out what’s leaving — Billy on the Street, Catch Me If You Can, Legally Blonde, and more — after Halloween. That will make more room for the November crop of fresh content to arrive and fill your queues anew.
Here’s everything else coming to (and leaving) the streaming platform this week.
Night Teeth (Netflix film streaming 10/20)
Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry play the lead-character vampires of this film, but there are also blood suckers played by Megan Fox and Sydney Sweeney, so you know what that means: any human in their sights is in big trouble. That includes a college-student-turned-chauffeur, Benny (Jorge Lendeborg, Jr.), who’s tasked with driving the two primary vamps around to parties, where they can get their thirst on. Can Benny stay alive, can he save Los Angeles, and can he possibly do both things? Talk about a guilty pleasure of a movie.
Lizzy Caplan and Christian Slater star in this adult animated comedy show that revolves around a shadow government that’s all up in global conspiracies. There are secret societies and orgies and shapeshifters and psychic mushrooms, along with an idealistic agent who hopes that she can make a difference in a world filled with unhinged characters.
Locke & Key: Season 2 (Netflix series streaming 10/22)
Joe Hill’s horror comic continues on the adaptation train after the Locke siblings (and mother) attempted to make a new start after their father’s mysterious murder. Naturally, one should expect to see more uncovered keys this season and even darker forces that are attempting to trick everyone into doing their bidding. Still, this show remains a coming-of-age mystery that stresses family bonds above all else, including the entire spiritual realm.
This documentary follows teen American girls who somehow discover that they’re cousins by blood. This leads to an online-meeting that turns into a real-life journey, wherein the teens travel to China for answers and adventure. It’s an emotional journey but a rewarding one.
Sex, Love, and goop (Netflix series streaming 10/21)
Gwyneth Paltrow once advocated for women to put jade eggs into their vaginas, so one can only imagine what this “wellness” series has to offer. She’s enlisted courageous couples who have asked the goop people to help them have more pleasurable sex. Hmm.
Seven families who are stuck during Parisian lockdown endure the best and worst of each other over the course of three months. Man, this should inspire everyone who can get to the country side to do so, stat.
Theo Von: Regular People (Netflix stand-up comedy special streaming 10/19)
Podcasting funny guy Theo Von is actually not a regular dude, as you’ll find out from this set of stories about his childhood and how, as an adult, he does his best to avoid work. Also, get ready for some matchmaking shenanigans, as related from Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
Life’s a Glitch with Julien Bam (Netflix series streaming 10/21)
The YouTube influencer of the title apparently wakes up in a bizarre situation that sounds a little Kafka-esque, only it involves a parallel universe. Luckily for him, he’s got his pal Joon Kim with him, so they can attempt to figure out why he’s now MMA fighting and making rap videos.

Khalid is set to release his upcoming third album Everything Is Changing at some point in the future. Fans are still awaiting a release date for the project, but so far the singer has given them a decent amount of singles to enjoy as they wait. They include “New Normal,” “Eleven,” and “Know Your Worth.” The singer now adds “Present” to the mix thanks to his latest release. The track captures an honest conversation between the singer and a special individual in his life that sees asking for a moment to collect himself and be “present” with them.
The track arrives after Khalid opened up about the completion of Everything Is Changing in a string of tweets. “I’m really sorry to keep you guys waiting for this album because I want it to be out more than anyone, so much that finishing it has became overwhelming and I need to find that joy again,” he wrote. “I started this album and I felt free, like creativity was pouring out of me. I have some songs on here I know will change my life. I need to get back to making music how I want to make.” Towards the end of his message, he added. “I’m gonna refocus, finish this album without stress, and put out something that I truthfully believe in. I’ma be me at the end of the day, that’s all I can be.”
You can listen to the new single in the video above.
Big Sean returned to the music world with a chip on his shoulder and his spike in activity continues with his latest single, “What A Life.” The track is produced by Hit-Boy and it finds the Detroit rapper reflecting on his best moments and the hardships he got through over a quick-paced beat supplied by Hit-Boy. It marks the latest collaboration between the two as they last connected on the rapper’s fifth album, Detroit 2, which was released towards the end of last year and was executive produced by Hit-Boy himself.
The track also seems to be a sequel to the rapper’s 2015 track, “What A Year” which features appearances from Pharrell and Detail with the latter responsible for the song’s production. Big Sean released the song two days after stopping by Power 106’s LA Leakers to deliver a sharp freestyle over five songs that include Kanye West’s “Hurricane,” which he originally had a verse on, Drake and Jay-Z’s “Love All,” Nardo Wick’s “Who Wants Smoke??” and more. A day after it was released, Big Sean took to Twitter to explain his intention behind the freestyle.
I’ll do a hype song, a conscious song, a love song or strip club song and will hop on a song with anybody and hold my own. That’s why I rapped on 4 different styles of beats on the LA Leakers cause I embrace being versatile, love to everybody who listened as well and sharing
