You’ll Have To Wait Until Spring Of 2023 For ‘Fast And Furious 10’

Movie fans feeling the need for speed will have to make do with Top Gun: Maverick for the time being, which arrives in theaters on November 19th. Because they’ve got a bit of a wait on their hands for the tenth installment in the Fast and Furious series. Someone who claims to have insider knowledge of the Fast and Furious production schedule is telling The Wrap that Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his pals won’t be back on the big screen until April 7, 2023.

While Universal, the franchise’s distributor, did not immediately respond to The Wrap’s request for comment, the site writes that:

Fast and Furious 10 is planned as [the] next-to-last chapter in the story of Dom Toretto and his chosen family of criminals-turned-superheroes, with the series to end with the 11th movie. Justin Lin, who turned the series into a global powerhouse starting with 2006’s Tokyo Drift and directed all but two subsequent installments, including this year’s F9, is expected to direct both 10 and 11.

While the original film in the series, Rob Cohen’s The Fast and the Furious (2001), holds a not-so-stellar 54 percent approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes, the film became a surprise hit with audiences, earning a reported $207.3 million worldwide. Today, the Fast & Furious series ranks as the 15th highest-grossing film franchise, right behind Superman.

Rod Wave Enjoys The Fruits Of His Success In The Intimate ‘Time Heals’ Video

I don’t know what rappers’ preoccupation with putting private jets in their videos lately is all about, but it’s a phenomenon that has infiltrated seemingly every major rapper’s catalog over the past year or so. Rod Wave‘s “Time Heals” is no exception, as the Florida-born rapper-singer’s latest clip sees him celebrating the fruits of his recent success with shots from behind-the-scenes tour footage, snippets of his grill-fitting and tattoo sessions, and of course, the obligatory “I’m boarding a private jet” shots.

He has reason to celebrate. Earlier this year, his third album SoulFly became his first to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums charts behind the singles “Tombstone” and “Street Runner,” as well as his inclusion in the 2020 XXL Freshman class after his first two albums became viral favorites. This Friday, he’ll look to extend SoulFly‘s success with the release of a deluxe version, the origin of his latest single.

In addition to his own album, Rod Wave has appeared on a few notable features this year — namely, “Heart Of A Giant” from Polo G’s third album Hall Of Fame and “Rich Off Pain” from Lil Baby and Lil Durk’s collaborative project The Voice Of The Heroes.

Watch Rod Wave’s “Time Heals” video above.

SoulFly deluxe is due 8/20 on Alamo.

The Trailer For HBO’s ‘Scenes From A Marriage’ — Featuring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain — Will Cut Close To The Bone For Many

Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain aren’t very good at being married. Then again, are any of us? (Sorry, honey; they made me write that.) HBO just dropped the first trailer for Scenes From a Marriage, the upcoming five-part series that will reunite Isaac and Chastain as husband and wife (a role they previously played in 2014’s A Most Violent Year), but this time around it’s much more relatable—in the most painful way possible—as the couple falls in and out of love and struggles to maintain their relationship as the years tick by and both characters evolve and change. According to the limited series’ official synopsis:

A captivating re-examination of the dilemmas probed by the original, the five-episode limited series explores love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage, and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple. Mira (Jessica Chastain) is a confident, ambitious tech executive left unfulfilled by her marriage, and Jonathan (Oscar Isaac) is a cerebral and accommodating philosophy professor desperate to keep their relationship intact. Throughout, Scenes From A Marriage mines the full complexity of Jonathan and Mira as individuals who ultimately know their marriage isn’t being torn apart by any one event or flaw, resulting in a radically honest series that allows the audience to eavesdrop on private conversations between two people torn between feelings of hate and love.

If it all sounds rather deep and depressing and Freudian, that’s because it’s an adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s 1973 Swedish miniseries of the same name, which tackled the same very complex topics and was partly biographical—based on Bergman’s own relationships (he was married five times), including his longtime romance with muse Liv Ullmann (who starred in the miniseries). Scenes From a Marriage is a deeply personal drama that is seen from the perspective of both partners—which makes Hagai Levi, creator of The Affair, the perfect person to have at the helm of its adaptation.

Scenes From a Marriage will debut on September 12, 2021.

Owen Wilson Admits His Superhero Knowledge Mostly Involves Some Very On-Point Thoughts On… Aquaman?

During a new cover profile for Esquire that’s packed to the brim with that effortless Owen Wilson charm, the Loki actor opened up about his first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and whether it’s true that he really knew nothing about the the vast comic-book movie franchise before joining the Disney+ series. In a word… yeah.

In an entertaining exchange, Wilson shares that he just came from a press junket from Loki, and there always seems to be something in the “press notes” is that “I know zero about the MCU.” While discussing that narrative, he eventually came clean about the extent of his superhero film knowledge, and it’s mostly about Aquaman, who isn’t even a Marvel character. Via Esquire:

“I don’t know a ton about it, but I know—”

He pauses.

“Actually, yeah, I probably don’t know that much about it. I kind of know about Iron Man. I’ve seen Aquaman. He’s swimming in jeans. No one can swim in jeans! That was my argument with the kids about Aquaman.”

However, while Wilson is upfront that he knows very little about the MCU, he did thoroughly shoot down the notion that he had to be “convinced” to star in Loki. He told Esquire that it was a simple matter of director Kate Herron calling him, pitching the story, and Wilson wanting in.

As Mobius, he did have a lot of heavy exposition to deliver in a universe that Wilson wasn’t entirely familiar with and was about to get way more complicated by the finale. Yet when asked about the his dialog in an interview back in June, he was once again cool as can be about it.

“You’re describing this to me and I don’t really have much of a memory of it, so I don’t know if I blocked it out of my mind the way you would math class,” Wilson told Variety. “Because it is complicated, and it’s hard sometimes if you feel you’re saddled with a lot of exposition. I don’t quite remember it being too burdensome. We must have found a nice flow for it, where it was able to naturally work its way in to the conversations with Tom. Because I don’t remember it being too, ‘Oh god, now we’ve got to lay this out.’”

Bruno Mars And Anderson .Paak Have Delayed Their Silk Sonic Album To 2022 For A Specific Reason

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have taken their time introducing Silk Sonic to the world: After releasing their hit debut single “Leave The Door Open” in March, it took nearly five months for them to drop their next one, “Skate.” Now, they’re putting their patience on display once more: The duo’s debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, was initially set for a fall release, but now it’s being pushed back to January 2022.

They made this reveal in a new Rolling Stone feature. The piece notes that the duo decided they wanted to release more songs before the album so each one could “breathe a bit,” with Mars saying, “I don’t want to be binge-watched.”

He also explained where he and .Paak are at with the album at the moment, saying, “We’re really in touch-up mode now. We’ve got the bones of most of the album, so it’s really about touching up parts that need a little more… grease.” .Paak added, “Which could mean redoing the song from scratch!”

With a laugh, Mars continued, “Being here for another three years! But no. We’re not there. We were there. We had some moments in the danger zone! I think we put the pressure on ourselves by putting out ‘Leave The Door Open’ — but a deadline is important, because at some point, you gotta say, ‘This is it.’ Otherwise you’re gonna work it ’til you hate it. But there’s a beauty in that — you do have to get sick of it, because that means you put the love and the time and the passion in it, and it’s taxing. That bridge [on ‘Leave The Door Open’] almost broke the band up. But it wasn’t right, and we all felt it.”

Kumail Nanjiani Had To Do Something Even More Challenging Than Getting Ripped For ‘Eternals’

Kumail Nanjiani never thought he would be “one of those people who would post a thirsty shirtless,” but he probably never thought he would be in a Marvel movie either. The comedian plays Kingo in Chloé Zhao’s Eternals, which also stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie. He got ripped for the part, but that wasn’t the toughest part of his preparation: the dancing was.

Kingo is a Bollywood star, but as Nanjiani told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m not a dancer. I have zero rhythm. I had to take months and months of classes to do this. So it was very challenging, but I know that if we could pull this off and capture the joy and excitement of a Bollywood dance number in a Marvel movie, that would be special.” The Oscar nominee “grew up watching Bollywood movies. I knew every Bollywood movie until like the late ’90s. So to be able to do an homage to the genre of movies that I loved and grew up watching was really special.” You can see a bit of the number in the trailer.

Nanjiani also praised Zhao, whose Nomadland won Best Picture and Best Director at the Oscars, for being “one of the greatest filmmakers ever, and she’s at the height of her powers right now. Working with someone like that, you’d think it’d be intimidating, but it was the opposite. I just felt very safe. I was like, ‘She’s not going to let me suck at this.’”

Eternals opens on November 5.

The Simpsons And Adidas’ Newest Collaboration Has Birthed A Perfectly Cromulent Ned Flanders Shoe

In the history of great pop culture x sneaker collaborations, The Simpsons and Adidas have created some truly memorable kicks, including this year’s Flaming Moe and Duff Beer creations. Now, a-diddly-didas is upping its shoe game with what might be the coolest-ever tribute to the world’s least cool cartoon character: Ned Flanders.

Adidas

HotNewHipHop.com offered a sneak peek at the upcoming release, which is described as having “father-like aesthetics,” noting:

The colorway of the shoe is completely based on Flanders’ everyday outfit as we are met with browns, greens, and even some pink on the insole. As for the packaging, we get a picture of Flanders standing outside of his lefthanded-themed store called the “Leftorium.” This is a great way to pay homage to the character and we’re sure Simpsons fans will be eager to cop.

If the green and brown tones (Ned’s signatures colors) aren’t for you, they could make the perfect gift for the god-fearing leftie in your life. Even if you don’t plan to wear the shoes, ScreenRant notes that the box the sneakers come in is its own kind of collectible. It features original artwork of Ned standing outside of his Leftorium—a store created specifically for southpaws—with a sign declaring “Left Handers Rule!”

Adidas

Sneaker Freaker notes that the shoes, which will retail for $120, are scheduled to be released on October 3, 2021.

Lucy Lawless Made An Unexpected Admission About Her ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ Action Days

During her six-season run on Xena: Warrior Princess, Lucy Lawless became a TV legend thanks to her work in bringing the fierce fighter to life. Even to this day, a whole generation of fans ride still hard for Xena and Lawless, who recently opened up about her time in the career-making role. Turns out, Lawless was never a huge action or fantasy fan, but you’d never know it by the way she took to the part. Via The Wrap:

“Oh yes, I always hated action,” Lawless said during a Television Critics Association panel to promote her Acorn TV series “My Life Is Murder.” The actress said she “couldn’t believe” that action and fantasy became such a defining part of her early career: “I don’t do fantasy, I don’t watch fantasy, I’m not interested in any of this stuff, [but] I found myself in this crazy genre.”

Of course, this news will probably come as a bummer to The Mandalorian fans who have been campaigning hard for Lawless to join the series and replace Gina Carano as the series badass female star. For now, Lawless is very content starring in the detective series My Life Is Murder, which interestingly, just had a collision with her old days as Xena. Renee O’Connor, who played Gabrielle on the hit series, has a guest spot on the next season of My Life Is Murder.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lawless revealed that she’d been trying to get O’Connor on the show since the first season, but things finally worked out where they could reunite under less action-y circumstances.

People Cannot Believe That Trump Thinks You Have To Give The Taliban ‘Credit’ For Being ‘Good Fighters’

During a primetime Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, Donald Trump called Joe Biden withdrawing troops from Afghanistan “the greatest embarrassment in the history of our country.” Trump might be the least self-aware person on the planet, but even by his high standards, this was still a Picard facepalm-worthy admission from the man who, in the same interview, praised the Taliban for being “good fighters” and claimed that they’ve been “fighting for a thousand years.” The extremist group founded in 1994.

“The Taliban, good fighters I will tell, you, good fighters. You have to give them credit for that. They’ve been fighting for a thousand years; what they do is they fight,” Trump said, adding, “The Taliban has circled the airport, and who knows if they’re going to treat us right? All of a sudden, they’ll say – well, frankly, if they were smart, they’d really – and they are smart, they are smart. They should let the Americans out.”

That word soup was surrounded by Trump calling Afghanistan’s former president Ashraf Ghani a “total crook” and advice for Biden (“He should have taken the military equipment, because we have billions of dollars a brand-new beautiful equipment”), but people are mostly in disbelief over his refusal to give a cursory glance to the Wikipedia page for “Taliban.” It’s not the “greatest embarrassment in the history of our country” (he’s done more embarrassing things this year alone), but it’s not a great look, either.

Future Islands Quickly Launch A New Era With The Kinetic Single ‘Peach’

In October 2020, Future Islands released their sixth album, As Long As You Are. Since they didn’t get to spend time touring behind that record due to the pandemic, it appears they instead got right back to work on new music: Today, they’ve shared a new song, “Peach.” The tune is carried by an energetic groove, some characteristically evocative vocals and lyrics from Samuel T. Herring, and some synth sounds both meditative and kinetic.

Meanwhile, back in May, the band announced a tour that’s set to kick off in September.

In January, the band revealed they were working on a new album with a photo of them all in the studio, which was different than the remote way in which their previous album was created. In a 2020 interview with Uproxx, William Cashion said of making that album, “I think it just gave us a lot of space to really think about what the song needed. It wasn’t painful as we thought it was going to be. It was good. I think we realized that we could mix like that again in the future if we need to. Sam has been living in Sweden lately, so we know now that we could do the mixing process with him there if we needed to.”
