Trump Reportedly Doesn’t Think Very Highly Of House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy: ‘He F*#ked Me. He’s Not A Good Guy’

How anyone within the Republican party can trust each other is a mystery to many, especially considering the latest round of trash-talking and name-dragging happening between Donald Trump and his one-time friend, GOP Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The two seemed chummy in late January, despite McCarthy initially placing blame for the Jan. 6th insurrection on Trump’s shoulders. McCarthy endorsed a Congress-enacted censure of the former president a week after he incited a violent mob to attack Capitol Hill (though he was against the idea of impeachment). A few weeks later, McCarthy paid a visit to Trump at Mar-a-Lago to reportedly discuss how to strengthen the Republican party in upcoming elections. More recently, McCarthy’s seemed to walk back his condemnation of Trump’s involvement in the Capitol Hill riots, threatening telecom companies should they comply with the request for phone records made by the special committee investigating the attacks and refusing to cooperate with the committee altogether. McCarthy’s about-face reads like a last-ditch effort to get Trump firmly on his side as he aims to make a play for Nancy Pelosi’s seat should the GOP take the House in a year’s time, but it sounds like he’s going to need to do more than just tweet his faux outrage if he hopes to call Trump a friend.

That’s because, according to a new book by Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, Trump has been pretty vocal about his distaste for McCarthy. CNN shared a preview of the book, reporting that Trump was still angry with the House Minority leader for turning on him after the Jan. 6th debacle.

“This guy called me every single day, pretended to be my best friend, and then, he fucked me,” Trump reportedly said. “He’s not a good guy.”

As for McCarthy’s trip to Mar-a-Lago, which seemed to imply the two were on good terms again, Trump had this to say:

“Kevin came down to kiss my ass and wants my help to win the House back.”

Whew, with friends like these, who needs enemies? Right?

Norm Macdonald Has Passed Away At 61 After Reportedly Battling Cancer Privately For Nearly A Decade

Norm MacDonald, a beloved comedic institution, SNL veteran, and fan-favorite Weekend Update anchor, has passed away at age 61. Deadline broke the news of MacDonald’s nearly decade-long battle with cancer, which he chose to keep private. According to Deadline’s Greg Evans, MacDonald’s management relayed the sad news along with a statement from his longtime producing partner, Lori Jo Hoekstra, who revealed that Norm had been fighting cancer for nine years. She added that Norm had been adamant upon maintaining privacy throughout his health struggles.

In a statement, Hoekstra explained the root of MacDonald’s privacy wish:

“He was most proud of his comedy. He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”

Although most will instantly conjure up memories of MacDonald from his SNL tenure (including his 3-year run as a sardonic Weekend Update anchor who pulled no punches with his deadpan delivery) his standup comedy will remain legendary. In March 2020, in fact, he fired off a truly great set on Coronavirus, one that never could have plausibly emerged from any comedian who didn’t possess such deft, ninja-like skills on the microphone.

Norm was slated to perform during November’s New York Comedy Festival.

Shawn Mendes Needed Two Guitars To Cover Billie Eilish’s ‘Happier Than Ever’ In The Live Lounge

BBC Radio 1 is in the midst of its Live Lounge Month, which means they’re putting an even greater focus than usual on their famed Live Lounge series. Over the years, a ton of great covers have emerged from the Live Lounge, and now Shawn Mendes (whose last visit to the Live Lounge came ten months ago) has offered another one.

During his latest performance, he performed a rendition of Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever.” He took on the dynamic track first with an acoustic guitar before switching to an electric six-string partway through the song, to give the track’s epic climax the gravity it demands.

Sharing the cover on social media, Mendes wrote, “Thank you @BBCR1 live lounge for having me & @BillieEilish for this unbelievable song.”

Elsewhere during the session, he performed his own “Summer Of Love.”

It’s good that Mendes still has some love for Eilish considering that he’s a victim of her ghosting. On a 2019 episode of Hot Ones, Eilish revealed, “Shawn Mendes texted me but I didn’t respond.” A few months after that bombshell, Mendes noted that Eilish still hadn’t answered his text. If Eilish still isn’t answering him, he could try getting his girlfriend Camila Cabello to reach out to Finneas, as Finneas produced a couple tracks from Cabello’s 2019 album Romance.

Check out Mendes’ “Happier Than Ever” cover above.

Bo Burnham Could Tie An Emmys Record This Weekend For ‘Inside’

Bo Burnham’s Inside is one of the most popular comedy specials in years, with theater screenings, a top-10 soundtrack album, and a supporter in Phoebe Bridgers. It also won three Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards over the weekend: Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, and Outstanding Music Direction. Inside lost Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics (for “Comedy”) to A Black Lady Sketch Show and “Agatha All Along” from WandaVision, respectively, but it’s up for another Emmy this weekend — and if it wins, Burnham will tie a record.

Bo Burnham: Inside will be competing for one final award at the main Emmy telecast on Sunday, Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), for which Burnham is nominated alongside producer Josh Senior. Should Inside win, Burnham will tie the record for most Emmys by an individual in a single year, 4, currently held by Dan Levy, Amy Sherman-Palladino, and Moira Demos.

Dan Levy won four Emmys for Schitt’s Creek last year, while Amy Sherman-Palladino took home her trophies (three more than Gilmore Girls ever won) for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Moira Demos cleaned up the non-fiction categories with Making a Murderer.

The specials standing in the way of Burnham tying the record: David Byrne’s American Utopia; 8:46 – Dave Chappelle; Friends: The Reunion; Hamilton; and A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote. Does Lin-Manuel Miranda really need another award? The Emmys air this Sunday, September 19, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer.

In a statement about the new album, Makthaverskan said they aim to take their sound in a “new direction” on the upcoming project:

“When we started the songwriting process for this album, I think we all were pretty determined to take the music in a new direction. Not necessarily that we would sound ‘different,’ but to work on the songs using somewhat different methods than before. For our previous albums we have written the songs in our rehearsal space and pretty much recorded them the way they were. For this album we intended the songs to be finalized in the studio in a different and left some more room to work with.”

Ryan Reynolds does the ‘Grace Kelly challenge’ and wows with his voice and surprise guest

It’s not uncommon for famous actors to be able to sing, but since we don’t always get to see those talents, it’s always a delight when they surprise us with their pipes.

It’s also fun when they surprise us with cameo appearances from other celebrities in their videos, and when they combine the two? Well, that’s when you get 36 million views in less than 24 hours.

Ryan Reynolds posted a video of him doing the TikTok “Grace Kelly challenge,” which involves singing various harmonies for the chorus of Mika’s 2007 song, “Grace Kelly.” Right away, his harmonizing with himself evokes an “OH, wow, Ryan Reynolds has good pitch” reaction. But when his special guest pops in for the high harmonies, come on. This is just good, wholesome fun right here.

@vancityreynolds

Late to the Grace Kelly trend but way early for our movie musical. I ❤️ duets. (And Mika)

Undoubtedly, some of those 36 million views and counting are from people watching it over and over, because how can you not? Ryan Reynolds singing? Good. Surprise appearance by Will Ferrell? Good. Silly-but-perfect harmonies between two iconic comedians? Gooooood.

Speaking of perfect harmonies, here’s an impressive example of what the Grace Kelly challenge brought to TikTok. Not as funny as the Reynolds-Ferrell duet, but absolutely gorgeous performance (courtesy of Jules x La).

And in case you’ve missed it, this is the original song by Mika that spawned the TikTok challenge.

Love seeing celebrities having fun and showing off their talents together. Reynolds and Ferrell are currently filming a holiday musical inspired by Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” which explains the period vests. The film, called “Spirited,” is set to air on Apple TV+ this holiday season.

Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell in a Christmas musical? Definitely good. Thanks for making our day a little brighter, gentlemen.

This guy just confessed to faking a dozen classic ‘Dear Prudence’ letters that got published

Bennett Madison, the author of several young adult novels, had something he needed to get off his chest, and he let it all out in a Gawker article on Monday. Madison has been submitting fake letters to “Dear Prudence” Slate’s advice column over the past few years and 12 were published.

“Dear Prudence” is a popular advice column currently penned by Jenée Desmond Harris, that appears in Slate and has been syndicated in over 200 newspapers. The name was inspired by a Beatles song written by John Lennon.

Madison admits he submitted about two dozen letters from “burner email accounts” over the last few years.

After suffering a few rejections, Madison learned that an effective letter must have two elements: “It must be plausible, but it must also be ridiculous.”

Among those that made it to the column include headlines such as, “My Daughter Is Pretending to Be Demonically Possessed… and I Can’t Take It Anymore!”; “Help! My Sister Is Convinced She’s an Unrecognized Genius, and It’s Tearing My Family Apart!”; “My Mother Is Trying To Convince the Guests At My Gay Wedding To Come Dressed As Disney Characters”; and “Help! My Friend Thinks I Am Stealing Vaccines From African-American Grandmothers To Attend Sex Resorts.”

But the letter that will forever live in infamy is his final submission. His letter entitled “Help! My Husband Won’t Remove His Mask, Even For Sex!” was so compelling that it even fooled Fox News’ Tucker Carlson.

The letter claimed to be written by a woman with the pseudonym “Maskless Alone” whose husband is so afraid of COVID-19, he won’t take his mask off, even during sex.

“For the last year, he has refused to take off his face mask, even when we are at home—just the two of us,” Maskless and Alone writes. “This is true even now that he is fully vaccinated for the virus. He wears it to sleep, to do most of his bathroom activities, and, yes, even during lovemaking.”

“This is making me depressed and concerned about our future together. I have asked him when he plans to stop masking, and all he says is ‘When it is safe for everyone,'” the fake submission continues.

Torie Bosch, writing as Prudence, replied saying that Maskless and Alone should give her husband three options. “First, he can make an appointment with his physician to talk about effective protective measures,” she writes. Option number two is to “start seeing a therapist.” And finally, if those two options don’t work it’s time to “call an end to the relationship.”

Madison learned the letter had gone viral on Twitter while celebrating with a drink. “The evening after Help! My Husband Won’t Remove His Mask, Even For Sex! ran, I was on my first margarita at a Mexican restaurant when a colleague texted me that it was getting traction on Twitter,” he writes.

Then, he found out the article had been picked up by Tucker Carlson who cited it while talking with Rush Limbaugh’s replacement, Clay Travis. Carlson and Travis used the Dear Prudence letter to do what they do best, bash liberals.

via Fox News

“If the woman had any sense at all she would leave her husband,” Travis told Carlson. “Because if you’re masking up at this point, why do you want to be with such an emasculated loser and be betrothed to him for the rest of your life, I would lose my mind if I was this woman.”

Madison was elated that his prank had fooled Carlson but didn’t like that it was being used to trash people on his side of the political aisle.

“While part of me was excited to have duped a dweeb like Tucker Carlson with such an obviously phony scenario, I was disturbed to have provided chum for the pro-Covid, bleach-drinking lunatics in his audience,” he writes. “And unless I decided to remove my own “smelly and soiled” mask and reveal myself, no one would ever even know that Carlson had been taken in.”

The admission probably hasn’t gone over very well with the folks at Slate but this reader doesn’t have a problem with the fact that a few of the letters may have been phony. The column is a fun read and the most important takeaway is the advice. Whether or not there was a man out there who refused to have sex without wearing his mask, Prudence is right in telling the woman that she shouldn’t put up with a partner whose being completely unreasonable.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Is ‘Excited’ To See LeBron James Potentially Break His Career Scoring Record

LeBron James’ longevity and ability to play at a high level despite the workload he’s shouldered during his NBA career are exceedingly rare. The list of guys who have done something similar includes names like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone, both of whom are ahead of James on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. James is 1,561 career points behind Malone for second place and 3,020 behind Abdul-Jabbar for first, and if he keeps up his current pace, he should be able to take the No. 1 spot sometime in the next few years.

In an interview with Marc Stein, Abdul-Jabbar made clear that he’s not just at peace with his record potentially going down, he is rooting for James to potentially take his spot as the most prolific scorer in NBA history.

“I’m excited to see it happen,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “I don’t see records as personal accomplishments, but more as human achievements. If one person can do something that’s never been done, that means we all have a shot at doing it. It’s a source of hope and inspiration. Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile back in 1954. Since then, not only have 1,400 runners beaten that time, but the new record is 17 seconds less. We all win when a record is broken and if LeBron breaks mine, I will be right there to cheer him on.”

Should James play every game over the next two seasons, he’d need to average about 18.6 points per game to take the record by the end of the 2022-23 campaign. It stands to reason he will not hit all 162 games in that span of time, but the good news for him is that he’s a prolific enough scorer that it’s still in his grasp even if he does that. But no matter when he’ll achieve this, he can take some solace in knowing that he’ll have the current record holder in his corner cheering for him the whole time.
